LATIN POP STAR NEZZA WRAPS HER SUCCESSFUL CLUB SOLITA TOUR

Multi-talented pop star  NEZZA  recently wrapped her  Club Solita Tour . She performed her biggest hits at two sold-out shows in L.A. and New York. The songs are from  NEZZA ’s debut  EP Club Solita  that was released through Virgin Music US Latin.

In October,  NEZZA  released her debut  EP Club Solita  as part of her distribution deal with Virgin Music US Latin. In support of the EP,  NEZZA  hit the road with her  Club Solita Live Tour . She performed at The Peppermint Club in L.A. on Jan. 20 and The Mercury Lounge in New York City on Jan. 27. During the sold-out concerts, she dazzled fans across the country with her hits like  “Sola” ,  “Temporary” , and  “Corazon Frio” . In her performances,  NEZZA  blended her pop, R&B, and Latin songs with her love of dance on the stage. This was  NEZZA ’s first headlining tour since she opened for Téo’s concert last year at the El Rey Theatre in L.A.

NEZZA ’s music reflects her background of growing up in the Bay Area and her Dominican and Colombian roots. Her  Club Solita EP  features the hit “Corazon Frio,” which has over 1.1 million streams on Spotify. Showing her global appeal, the song received radio airplay in France (Radio Latina) and Costa Rica (VM Latino). The EP also features the sensual “Sola” in which she advocates for loving yourself after a breakup. The Spanish music video has over 198k views on YouTube.  NEZZA  also collaborated with Trinadadian-American artist  LATENIGHTJIGGY  in “Tenerte De Nuevo.” The music video has over 192k views on YouTube.

As a professional dancer and choreographer,  NEZZA  has danced for artists like  Lady Gaga ,  Selena Gomez , and  Zendaya . Previously, she was the face of Kenzo’s perfume campaign in Europe. Now  NEZZA  is a brand ambassador for the fashion label Coach.  NEZZA  has a big presence on  YouTube  where she uploads weekly videos to keep up with her fans. Through that special connection  NEZZA  shares with her fans, she has over 354k Instagram followers and over 353k subscribers on YouTube.  NEZZA  is a rising global pop star to watch out for.

Demon Jam opener and her return to Chicago.

Hues of red and orange gleamed on the stage as Nezza made her appearance for the 2023 Demon Jam. Nezza, short for Vanessa Hernandez, is a singer/influencer with a Colombian and Dominican background that she incorporates into her music. 

Nezza recently visited Chicago in November during her first tour, “Club Solita,” named after her first EP. Before her music career began, Nezza started on YouTube , documenting her life with friends and exploring Los Angeles.

Nezza sings in Spanish and English, which has allowed her to grow a wide fan base. DePaul University senior Elizabeth Amaya is a follower of Nezza who has admired her since 2018. Amaya attended Nezza’s tour in November and was astonished with her performance. Demon Jam was another chance to see her idol up close and personal. 

“I was very excited that [the Depaul Activities Board] announced that Nezza was an opener for this,” Amaya said. “One, I love her and I loved her performance, but at the show in November, I wasn’t as close as I wanted to be, so I was excited to get the opportunity.”

Nezza sang some of her favorite songs like “ Thirteen ,” “ Good Love ” and “ Temporary .” Her music has bouncy beats with a complementary mix of reggaeton and R&B. She may be the artist for anyone interested in Hispanic music looking to switch up their daily mix up. Nezza’s style of switching between languages resembles the style of Kali Uchis, another Colombian female artist. 

Amaya connects to her Mexican culture through listening to Hispanic music. Songs like “ Poison ”and “ Corazón Frío ” remind Amaya of the music she grew up on.  

Whether Nezza was singing of heartbreak or going out with her friends, she kept the performance lively with her dancing and interaction with the audience. As a professional dancer, Nezza followed her voice with every movement and let her personality run free.

The artist’s presence had a wonderful energy. Nezza connected with the crowd through tearing up while singing “ Better Days ” and inviting the audience to sing “ Kill Bill ,” a song by her favorite artist, SZA. Tattooed on the side of Nezza’s rib cage is SZA’s album title “Ctrl.” The tattoo has sentimental value since the album helped Nezza through a break up.

This performance, being a day prior to the artist’s birthday, was especially personal as she shared moments of gratitude with the audience. The passion came through in her voice. To celebrate, the audience showered her with gifts and bouquets of roses. Amaya was one to give Nezza a gift, and she had the chance to meet Nezza after the performance.

“It was incredible, and I really appreciated that she took some time to come out and meet people,” Amaya said after having a one-on-one chat with Nezza. “She is incredibly sweet. I was freaking out, and I was really excited to get to meet her.”

Hannah Green wins LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship for 2nd straight year

LOS ANGELES — Hannah Green won the LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship for the second straight year Sunday, holing out twice from off the greens in a pivotal back-nine stretch at challenging Wilshire Country Club.

A year after making a 25-foot birdie on the final hole of regulation and winning on the second hole of a playoff, Green — with help from Maja Stark — took the late drama out of this one for her fifth LPGA Tour victory and second of the year.

“It wasn’t as a eventful as the last couple days. I was nervous,” Green said. “And I’ve never been able to win having a lead into the last hole like that, so it is nice to be able to get it done earlier in the round.”

Green closed with a 5-under 66 to beat Stark by three strokes. The 27-year-old Australian, also the winner early last month in Singapore, finished at 12-under 272 on the tree-lined layout with poa annua greens that become bumpy late in the day.

“It’s really kind to me,” Green said about the course. “I felt like a couple times today almost got like a member bounce. I, obviously, really am fond of the golf club and joked that they didn’t approve it with me that they were making alterations. I love it here.”

Green began the key run with a chip-in birdie on the par-3 12th and made a 6-foot birdie putt on the par-5 13th. Then, after Stark bogeyed the par-4 16th two groups ahead, Green ran in a 25-footer for eagle from the fringe on 15 to open a four-stroke lead, and made it 5 under in five holes with a birdie on 16.

“When I chipped in on 12 I kind of felt like I really snagged one there,” Green said. “I really like the 13th hole and also played the 15th really well. When I made eagle on 15 that kind of sealed the deal. I did see Maja got it to 9 under so I know what I needed to do. Usually, I make it really tricky on myself and only win by a shot.”

Stark finished with a 68, rebounding from the bogey on 16 to birdie the final two holes. The 24-year-old Swede also finished second last week outside Houston in The Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda in the first major of the year.

“I’m really proud of the way I’ve played,” Stark said. “I feel like I’ve hit a lot of good shots and I feel like my nerves kind of took over for a little while, but I was always able to get back to the normal — my normal state of mind.”

Haeran Ryu (69) was third at 6 under, followed by fellow South Korean players Jin Young Ko (67) and Jin Hee Im (72) at 5 under.

Grace Kim, four strokes ahead entering weekend after opening rounds of 64 and 66 and tied with Green for the lead after a third-round 76, finished with a 77 to tie for 25th at 1 under. She failed to make a birdie the final two days.

Korda withdrew from the Los Angeles event Monday, a day after her record-tying fifth straight victory.

’24 Charlotte Solo National Tour Fast Notes

zMax Dragway in Charlotte, NC, is known in some circles for its four-wide racing, but for SCCA members on the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour, it means one run at a time, the way the autocross gods intended it. During the April 19-21, 2024, weekend, more than 260 competitors agreed, battling through a spring shower on Sunday to provide the ultimate test for those determined to take home trophies.

The weekend really started on Friday, where a sold-out field of 24 took the opportunity to improve by participating in the Evolution Driving School. That gave way to runs on a pair of Mike Kuhn-designed courses that were described as “among the best they have seen at a National Tour event” – high praise indeed.

Event chair Jason Amistadi and his Central Carolinas Region team hosted a fantastic event that was enjoyed by many, including this weekend’s recipient of the SCCA Women on Track Driver Development Program Ashley Ludwick. The initiative aids one randomly selected woman at each Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour and ProSolo Series event with an opportunity for a one-on-one, 30-minute virtual coaching session with a top-tier driver from the sport. In this instance, Ludwick, who competed during the weekend in H Street, received tutelage from four-time SCCA Solo National Champ Cindy Duncan.

Fast Cars and Trophies

You want action? Charlotte had it.

Starting with the largest class in the field, C Street’s 23 competitors came to play. Andrew Aul was a half-second behind after Saturday, and while that was good for second, seven cars were within a second of the lead on the dry day. Sunday’s rain opened up the field to everyone, an Aul played rain master to take a 0.690sec win.

After 260 drivers completed their full allotment of weekend runs, Deana Kelley found herself on top of the Super Street Modified class. Unfortunately for Kelley, her co-driver was the 261 st and final driver on the course. Eric Anderson took the class win on the final run of the weekend, dropping his rain time by 1.5sec on his final run to top Kelley and the rest of the SSM field.

Langlee King made things interesting in the Ladies Street Tire Bump indexed class, but only on Saturday. A pair of DNFs to open the weekend left her behind the proverbial cone, but once she jumped to the lead on the third run, she never looked back and took the title in her C Street Mazda Miata.

At least two drivers had the honor of winning their first Solo National Tour events this weekend (and if we missed any others, we apologize in advance). Myke Dziengel topped the field in D Street Prepared, leveraging his wet weather run on Sunday to take the top spot in a Mazda RX-8. Chip Manuel took a different approach to his first win. He led Solo Spec Coupe wire-to-wire, taking a 1.564sec victory after posting the quickest time on each day.

The Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour now shoots the full length of the country for the April 26-28, 2024, Crows Landing Solo National Tour in Crows Landing, CA. The Crows Landing Solo Nat Tour comes on the heels of the ProSolo at the same location running concurrently with the Charlotte event. That sets the stage for the famous “Spring Nationals” event at Lincoln Airpark, the Tire Rack ProSolo/Solo National Tour double during Memorial Day weekend.

LOS ANGLES (AP) — Grace Kim shot a 7-under 64 at Wilshire Country Club to take the first-round lead Thursday in the LPGA Tour’s JM Eagle LA Championship.

Playing in the morning session, the 23-year-old Australian capped her bogey-free round with a chip-in birdie on the par-3 18th.

“Well, I chunked my tee shot on the last hole 20 meters short and then I chipped it in it,” Kim said. “I think that’s pretty cool, in front of everyone.”

Maja Stark of Sweden, Sei Young Kim of South Korea and Chanettee Wannasaen of Thailand were a stroke back at 65. Stark finished second last week outside Houston in The Chevron Championship, two strokes behind top-ranked Nelly Korda.

“I was so tired when I got here,” Stark said. “I barely been practicing. Just did a little bit of what I needed to do. I feel like it’s kind of similar anyway because there are just some pins that you can’t go for just like at Chevron.”

Korda withdrew Monday, a day after her fifth victory in a row.

Grace Kim won the LOTTE Championship last year in a playoff in Hawaii for her first LPGA Tour title. She missed the cut in The Chevron, shooting 76-72.

“If I was to compare my round today to last week, I really focused on just not having too much in my mind,” she said. “I think I over-thought a lot of things through my first and second round last week and struggled a little bit mentally.”

Sei Young Kim had four straight birdies on Nos. 12-15 in her afternoon round. She won the last of her 12 LPGA Tour titles in 2020.

Auston Kim, Haeran Ryu and Nataliya Guseva shot 66, and defending champion Hannah Green matched Amy Yang and Bianca Pagdanganan at 67.

Samuel Anderson carded an 8-under 64 to take a three-stroke lead at the Diners Club Peru Open at the Los Inkas Golf Club. Anderson holds sole possession of the 36-hole lead for the first time this season after carding his sixth straight sub-70 round.

Anderson was 6-under on the back-nine and has not made a bogey on Nos. 1-9 through the first two rounds. Anderson made four birdies and an eagle on No. 3 after starting the second round on the No. 10 tee.

After finishing T28 at the Bupa Championship at Tulum and missing the cut at the Totalplay Championship at Atlas Country Club, Anderson registered his best finish of the season at the 69th ECP Brazil Open. Anderson finished T6 after making 14 birdies over the final two rounds at the Rio Olympic Golf Course.

After starring at the University of Wisconsin, Anderson turned professional in 2021. The Stoughton, Wisconsin native finished T14 at the 2023 Diners Club Peru Open on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, his best finish of the 2023 season.

All players finished the second round with the final group finishing at 6:05 p.m. CT. Third-round play will start Saturday at 7:59 a.m. CT.
