Customize your Safari settings on iPad

Customize your start page

Every time you open a new tab, you begin on your start page. You can customize your start page with new background images and options.

Scroll to the bottom of the page, then tap Edit.

Choose options for your start page.

Favorites: Display shortcuts to your favorite bookmarked websites. See Add a website to Favorites .

Frequently Visited: Go straight to the websites you visit most.

Shared with You: See links shared with you in Messages. See Find links shared with you .

Privacy Report: Stay updated on how many trackers and websites Safari blocked from tracking you. See View the Privacy Report .

Siri Suggestions: As you search, allow websites shared in Calendar and other apps to appear.

Reading List: Show webpages currently in your Reading List. See Add the current webpage to your Reading List .

Recently Closed Tabs: Go back to tabs you previously closed.

iCloud Tabs: Show open tabs from other Apple devices where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID and Safari is turned on in iCloud settings or preferences. See Organize your tabs with Tab Groups .

Note: Your custom start page settings are updated on all your Apple devices where you have Use Start Page on All Devices turned on, and you’re signed in with the same Apple ID using two-factor authentication .

Change the text size for a website on Safari

Tap the large A to increase the font size or the small A to decrease it.

Change the display controls for a website on Safari

You can hide the search field, switch to Reader, and more.

Hide the search field: Tap Hide Toolbar (tap the top of the screen to get it back).

See a streamlined view of the webpage: Tap Show Reader (if available).

To return to the normal view, tap Hide Reader.

See what the webpage looks like on a desktop computer: Tap Request Desktop Website (if available).

You can also adjust Safari settings in Accessibility settings. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Per-App Settings. Tap Add App, choose Safari, then tap Safari to adjust the settings.

Choose where to save downloads

When you download a file in Safari, you can choose whether to save it to iCloud or on your iPad.

iCloud Drive: Select this option to save downloads to the Downloads folder in iCloud Drive. This allows you to access the downloaded file on any iPhone, iPad, or Mac where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID .

On My iPad: Select this option to save downloads to the Downloads folder on your iPad.

Share website passwords with a group

You can create a group of trusted contacts and share a set of passwords. Passwords stay up to date for everyone in the group, and you can remove someone at any time.

Adjust privacy settings for Safari

You can choose what privacy settings you want across Safari, and create individual exceptions for websites. See Browse privately .

You can navigate in Safari using keyboard shortcuts if you have an Apple external keyboard connected to your iPad.

Safari browser on iPhone lets you customize website settings to ensure a comfortable experience. For example, you can change text size, use Reader Mode, request the desktop version of a site, set permissions, etc. With iOS 16, you can also share Safari settings across your devices. How to access website settings in Safari on iPhone

• Open iPhone Settings and tap Safari . 

What Safari settings can you change on the iPhone?  

• Page Zoom : If you have difficulty seeing standard webpage text and images, you can set the zoom level for all the websites.  Note: If you had individually set the zoom for a page, it would be listed here. You may tap Edit to clear that and set a page zoom level for all websites you visit. 
• Request Desktop Website : This lets you access the computer version of a website. You may have to pinch out with two fingers to see the content.  Note: Several websites do not let you access the desktop version even if you use this feature. 
• Reader : Websites are full of ads and distractions like email popups, offer banners, and more. Reader Mode removes all these and lets you focus on the meaningful text and images on a website. From here, you can enable it for all websites. 
• Profiles: If you have customized any websites under a profile, you can them here.
• Camera , Microphone , Location : From here, you can allow, deny, or force all websites to ask your permission before accessing the iPhone camera, microphone, or your current location.

You can either customize the Safari settings from iPhone Settings or do it directly from Safari.

How to change Safari settings for each website on iPhone

In the above steps, you see how to apply these settings for all websites. But for most people (including me), it does not make much sense to use these for all the sites. Thus, Safari lets you set these settings on a per-website basis. Let me show you how.

• Launch the Safari app and visit the website. 
• Tap Website Settings . 

Notably, this will set the default for the active website. If you want to change or set the default page zoom for the current website, tap the ‘ A ‘ from the bottom of the options menu.

How to share Safari website settings on iPhone  

Now that we have set all the website settings you need, you can also ensure that the customization is shared across all your devices.

• Open Settings and go to Safari . 
• Scroll down to Settings For Websites .

And just like that, your website settings are now shared across all devices synced via iCloud.

Safari is probably one of your most used apps on your current iPhone. After all, Safari is your gateway to the wonderful world of the internet on the go. But have you ever wished you could make your mobile Safari experience a little more personal?

Since macOS Big Sur, Apple gave users the ability to customize the start page in Safari on the Mac . But this same feature did not make its way to the iPhone and iPad until iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, respectively. When you customize the start page in mobile Safari, you can pick your own cool background image and choose what sections you want to display when you first open a new tab. Sections can include your Favorites, Siri Suggestions, Reading List, and more. It's a simple little setting, but customizing your start page makes Safari feel more like your own.

Here's how to customize your start page in Safari on iPhone and iPad.

How to choose sections for your start page in Safari on iOS

• Launch Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
• If you are on an existing webpage, tap the Tabs button and launch a new tab .

• Scroll down to the bottom of the start page and tap Edit .
• If you prefer to use the same start page customization across all of your iPhones, iPads, and Macs, make sure the toggle for Use Start Page on All Devices is set to ON (green). This ensures that your start page appearance and settings are synced through iCloud.
• You'll see sections for Favorites , Frequently Visited , Shared With You , Privacy Report , Siri Suggestions , Reading List , and iCloud Tabs . Tap the toggles for the sections that you want to display to ON (green).
• If you want to rearrange the order that these sections appear in, just drag-and-drop with the handle into the order that you prefer.

In iOS 16 , a new section for Recently Closed Tabs will be added to the available options listed above. This section will show tabs that you've recently closed, in case you want to pull them up again.

How to set a background image for your start page in Safari on iOS

Adding a background image is a good way to spice up your Safari browsing experience while you're on the start page. Apple gives you the option to choose a preset image, or you can even pick out your own. Here's how.

• Make sure you're in a new tab so you can be on the start page .
• Scroll down to the bottom and tap Edit .
• Tap the toggle for Background Image to ON (green).
• Select one of the preset images by tapping on it.
• If you prefer to use your own, tap the large plus (+) button.
• Choose an image from your Photo Library .

If you've already set an image from your Photo Library but want to change it, just tap on the square with your custom image to browse your Photo Library again for a different image.

iPhone & iPad: How to change default search engine in Safari

While you can’t change your default web browser on iOS, Apple does allow you to change the default search engine in Safari. The default on iOS is Google, but you are able to change it to either, Bing, Yahoo, or DuckDuckGo.

• Head to Settings > Safari.
• Under SEARCH, tap Search Engine.
• Select the search engine you’d like to set as your default search engine.

While Safari is the only default option on iOS, it’s great that, at the very least, Apple gives you the option to change your default search engine, especially if you’re privacy conscious and don’t want to use Google. Note that this only applies to Safari, so doing searches via Siri, for example, will still default back to Bing.

Searching for content in Safari is simple; tap the menu bar at the top of the browser and enter your search terms. By default, all iOS devices use Google for web searches, but you can select a different search engine by following these steps:

Open the Settings app.

Select Safari > Search Engine .

Select the search engine you would like to use as the default. Options include  Google , Yahoo , Bing , and DuckDuckGo . The setting is automatically saved, so you can search using the new default search engine right away.

Similar to a desktop browser , Safari automatically fills in forms by grabbing information from your address book. This saves time because you don't need to fill out the same forms over and over again. To use this feature, follow these steps:

Select Safari > AutoFill .

Toggle the Use Contact Info switch to on/green.

Your information appears in the My Info field. If it does not, select the field and browse your address book to find your contact information.

Older versions of iOS allowed you to change your username and password info here. If you want to save, edit, or delete usernames and passwords in iOS 13 or later, go to the Passwords & Accounts settings page (select Settings > Passwords & Accounts ).

To save frequently used credit cards to make online purchases quicker, move the Credit Cards switch to on/green. If you don't have a credit card saved on your iPhone, select Saved Credit Cards , and add a card.

Saving usernames and passwords in Safari means you're not forced to memorize login credentials to access a website. As this data is sensitive, iOS takes measures to protect it. If you need to look up a username or password, you can do so by following these steps:

Select Passwords & Accounts > Website & App Passwords .

You are asked to authorize access to this information using Touch ID , Face ID , or your passcode.

A list details all the websites for which iOS has saved login data. Select a site to view the corresponding username and password.

You can choose where new links open by default—in a new window that appears either in front of or behind the page you are currently viewing. Follow these steps to adjust this setting:

Select Safari > Open Links .

Select In New Tab to open links in a new window in Safari and to have that window appear in front of the current tab. Select In Background to open links in a new window that appears behind the page you are currently viewing.

Browsing the web leaves digital footprints. Between browsing history, cookies, and other usage data, you may prefer to cover some of those tracks. If you find yourself often forgetting passwords for online shopping accounts, membership logins, and more, the AutoFill feature on your iPad  is great.

AutoFill allows users to save passwords and personal information entered on Safari, and uses that data to automatically fill in forms — and even access that data across all your devices using iCloud. 

The AutoFill feature is easy to enable in your iPad 's Settings app, where you can also review, edit, and delete passwords you no longer need.

Additionally, you can disable the feature with a simple switch if you no longer wish to use it. You can also do this from your iPhone or from your Mac computer .

Here's how to do it on your iPad .

1. Open the Settings app on your iPad.

2. Scroll down and tap "Passwords & Accounts" in the fifth section of options. This will bring you to your password details.

3. If the AutoFill feature is turned on, you will see a green switch labeled "AutoFill Passwords." To turn this off, tap or slide the switch to turn it white.

4. Tap "Website & App Passwords" at the top of the list to view what's already saved. The gray number on the right-hand side shows how many entries have already been saved using AutoFill.

5. Based on your security settings, you may be prompted to enter your passcode or Face/Touch ID. Enter your passcode or biometrics if asked, which will bring you to a list of all of your AutoFill passwords.

6. To delete an entry, first swipe left until a red "Delete" option appears.

7. Tap "Delete" to confirm.

8. You can also tap on any password to view its individual details.

9. Tap "Change Password on Website" to bring you to its webpage on Safari.

10. You can also tap "Edit" in the upper-left hand corner to remove the websites associated with the username and password. What this means is that the password will still be saved, but your iPhone won't associate it with any website. Tap the red minus symbol to the left of a website name to erase it. Most passwords are only linked to one website, but some — like university logins — may connect to multiple, similar pages.

Most browsers offer a private browsing mode that aims to keep the websites you view off the record. But what exactly does it do in Safari and how do you get the best out of it?

First and foremost, Private Browsing keeps the website pages you visit out of your History . The aim is to prevent someone else from seeing which pages you have visited if they have access to your phone or computer.

In Safari, Private Browsing does a lot more than just hide URLs. It also:

• Prevents recent searches from showing up in your history.
• Stops remembering details you enter in forms for autofill.
• Keeps downloaded items from appearing in your Downloads list.
• Locks private tabs after a period of inactivity.
• Adds tracking and fingerprinting protection.

However, it’s important to note that Private Browsing does not stop you from being tracked altogether. Websites you visit will still be able to use various methods to track you, and will still have access to all data that you send them.

On macOS, iOS, and iPadOS, Safari groups private tabs together, and separates them from non-private tabs. On Mac, each Safari window is either private or non-private, and can have as many tabs as you want.

On iPhone, you can switch between private and non-private modes, each of which shows all tabs belonging to that mode.

You can spot when you’re viewing a private tab with these signs:

• The address bar has a dark background. This may be less noticeable if you’re using Dark Mode .
• On Mac, you’ll see a prominent Private indicator in the title bar.
• On iPhone, you’ll see Private alongside the site URL at the bottom of your screen.

The steps to enter Private Browsing mode are nearly identical on an iPhone and iPad. The only difference is that the tab icon is at the bottom of the screen on iOS and the top on iPadOS.

• Long-press the tab icon (two overlapping pages) on the bottom-right (iPhone) or top-right (iPad) of your screen.
• Tap the New Private Tab menu item.
• If locked, enter your passcode to unlock Private Browsing.

You can enter Private Browsing mode on macOS using either a menu item or a keyboard shortcut:

• Open the File menu and choose New Private Window .
• Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Shift + Cmd + n .
• Use the browser as you normally would. Any tabs you open from this window will open in the same window, in private mode.

You may want to prevent users of an iPhone or iPad from using Private Browsing mode at all. To do so:

• Open the Settings app.
• Tap on Screen Time .
• Under RESTRICTIONS , click on Content & Privacy Restrictions .
• If not already enabled, press the toggle next to Content & Privacy Restrictions to enable.
• Tap Content Restrictions .
• Change the Web Content setting to Limit Adult Websites .

The option to enter private mode will now be gone.

On macOS, the wording of certain options differs slightly, but the overall process is near-identical to iOS:

• Open System Settings via the Apple menu.
• Click on Screen Time in the left panel.
• Under the Restrictions section, click on Content & Privacy .
• Click Content Restrictions .
• Change the Access to Web Content setting to Limit Adult Websites .

Private Browsing will now be unavailable in Safari, although any existing private windows will stay open.

Of course, anyone can re-enable Private Browsing using the same process, in reverse. However, you can use Screen Time’s Lock Screen Time Settings option to set a passcode and enforce the setting permanently.

Safari's AutoFill will automatically complete information for contacts, passwords, credit cards and more. Today we're going to discuss how to turn off or edit those AutoFill entries on macOS and iOS.

Whenever any form data is autofilled, Safari highlights them in yellow.

To turn off any or all AutoFill forms in Safari on macOS, first open Safari's preferences from the Safari menu or press Command+, on your keyboard.

In Safari's preferences, click the AutoFill tab You'll see a list of the things Safari can autofill.

Uncheck any items you don't want Safari autofilling, or click "Edit" next to any of the four items to change the actual data Safari has saved. This includes:

• Using info from my contacts : When you start typing any personal information about you, or any other person in your Contacts, into a form (name, address, phone number, etc.), Safari will autofill the blanks.
• User names and passwords : Clicking "Edit" will simply switch to the Passwords tab, which will let you amend any of your login information contained therein.
• Credit cards : This will open a credit card dialog allowing you add or remove payment information. Double-click on an entry to update a credit card's information including the cardholder's name, card number, and expiration date. Before you can edit any sensitive data, you will have to enter your system password.
• Other forms : Click the other forms "Edit" button to edit or remove any or all form data you have saved for a particular website. This is particularly useful if you frequently visit a website with forms you need to fill in time after time with the same information.

Safari on iOS can also fill in form data automatically. To access the AutoFill settings on iOS, open the Settings and tap "Safari".

Next, scroll down to the General options and tap "AutoFill".

In iOS, the options are slightly different than on macOS. You can still turn off your contact information, names and passwords, and credit cards, but there is no option for other forms.

The My Info option will let you choose another contact to use as your device's main contact, or again, you can edit your own contact information so it is up to date.

You can also view, add, remove, and edit any saved credit cards.

You may have noticed, in the previous screenshot, that there isn't any obvious way to edit saved login information. To fix any stored usernames and passwords, tap back to the Safari settings, and then tap "Passwords" right above the AutoFill settings.

Keep in mind that AutoFill will automatically populate any forms on your devices, regardless of who is using them. Thus, you should only lend your devices to people you trust, or simply turn off AutoFill if someone else is going to be using your Mac, iPhone, or iPad.

One final note: user login details and credit cards are stored in your iCloud Keychain ( unless they're not set up to sync to iCloud ), so when you add, delete, or edit either of these items on any one device connected to your iCloud account, the information will be populated to your other devices.

That's really all there is to it. Safari's AutoFill settings are simple enough to understand. Now, if you no longer want certain information to automatically populate forms, you can turn it off. Similarly, if the information is incorrect, you can fix it.

Apple to unveil AI-enabled Safari browser alongside new operating systems

Safari getting new AI tools in iOS 18

The software — expected to debut as Safari 18 later in 2024 — is currently undergoing evaluation alongside internal builds of Apple's next-generation operating system updates, namely iOS 18 and macOS 15, according to people familiar with the matter. Should all of the new features make it to the release candidate stage, users will be treated to a new user interface (UI) for customizing popular page controls, a "Web eraser" feature, and AI-driven content summarization tools.

Intelligent Search - AI-enhanced browsing and text summarization

Engineers evaluating the latest builds of Safari 18 can find a toggle for the new page controls menu within the browser's address bar. The menu consolidates — and provides quick access to — old and new page control tools, among them being the browser's new "Intelligent Search" feature.

This feature is not automatically enabled in test builds of Safari 18 and instead requires manual activation from the page controls menu. Once enabled, it's believed the tool leverages Apple's on-device AI technology — specifically the Ajax language-learning model — to identify topics and key phrases within a webpage for which to base the summarization.

In selecting key phrases, Apple's LLM software identifies sentences that provide explanations or describe the structure of objects, depending on the text in question. Words repeated within a text and key sentences are recognized as text topics.

These early indications suggest Apple is striving to deliver text summarization alongside Safari 18 later this year, though the exact implementation of this feature remains fuzzy.

Apple's text summarization features could be a response to rival generative AI tools, such as OpenAI's ChatGPT. But Apple's on-device models and technologies like Private Relay could make the experience much more secure for users. Intelligent Search is also likely to be the same AI browser assistant that one X user hinted at a couple of weeks back.

Web Eraser for better content-blocking

Also accessible from the new page controls menu is a feature Apple is testing called "Web Eraser." As its name would imply, it's designed to allow users to remove, or erase, specific portions of web pages, according to people familiar with the feature.

The feature is expected to build upon existing privacy features within Safari and will allow users to erase unwanted content from any webpage of their choosing. Users will have the option to erase banner ads, images, text or even entire page sections, all with relative ease.

The erasure is said to be persistent, rather than limited to a browsing session. This means that Safari will remember the changes even after the original tab or window has been closed.

When visiting a web page with previously erased content, Safari will inform the user that the page has been modified to reflect their desired changes. The browser will also give the user the option to revert changes and restore the webpage to its initial, unaltered state.

As for where Apple got the inspiration for Web Eraser, the company could have Sherlocked the feature from the third-party app 1Blocker. The application features a similar way of erasing ads, where users would tap ads to make them disappear.

Updated UI will move key tools into one easy location

The new page controls menu referenced throughout this article will attempt to offer Safari 18 users quick and easy access to several options previously located across different menus and the Share Sheet. Running on pre-release versions of macOS 15, for instance, the menu also pulls in the "Aa" menu common on existing iPadOS versions of the browser. These include zoom options, webpage settings for privacy controls, content blocking options, extension shortcuts, and access to the new AI and erasure tools.

These various options existed previously on macOS, but were found by navigating through the Safari settings menu. Having all of these controls in one central location in the Address Bar will make these options more discoverable for end users. Other options like on-page text search and reader mode are also in this menu.

This all suggests Apple intends to unite the iPadOS and macOS Safari UI paradigms when it unveils its new OS releases during its Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

AI-enhanced Visual Lookup feature could be available in 2025

Simultaneously, Apple is also working on a much more powerful visual search feature scheduled for integration sometime in 2025 that will allow users to obtain information on consumer products when browsing through images. People familiar with the tool say it's similar to the Visual Lookup feature, through which Siri can identify plants, pets and landmarks from photos.

Visual Search could be implemented as a system-wide feature. So, instead of surfacing search results in the Photos app, the user may be able to use Visual Search directly in Safari by selecting an image.

Given development of this tool is in the earlier stages, it remains unclear how Apple will ultimately go about implementing it. It also remains to be seen whether or not the feature will make it through internal testing.

The iPhone maker has expressed significant interest in artificial intelligence and more recently published research related to on-device language learning models. This goes hand in hand with widespread rumors about several other AI-powered software features, many of which are expected to make their debut later this year with iOS 18.

Another big year for Safari

From its inception, Safari was always meant to rival existing web browsers.

Safari was originally added to macOS as a means of replacing Microsoft's Internet Explorer for Mac, which was the default browser. Over the years, the app made its way to the iPhone , and has since received various upgrades over the years.

More recent versions of Safari provide users with personalized web suggestions, and allow for greater privacy protection with features such as iCloud Private Relay.

This latest set of enhancements only serves to better position Safari against the competition, in an ever-increasing landscape of generative AI tools and third-party ad-blockers.

While Apple tests many such features during different development stages, it is important to remember that not all of them make it to release. Apple has been known to delay features or cancel them entirely, so there's always a chance we may not see these new Safari features after all.

Along with Safari 18 and its associated improvements, we should also see a revamped Calculator with Math Notes make its way to iPadOS 18. Freeform Scenes and Adaptive Voice Shortcuts are new OS features, which are also expected to debut later this year.

Apple is expected to introduce various AI-related enhancements as part of iOS 18 and macOS 15, both of which should be announced at the company's annual WWDC on June 10.

"As for where Apple got the inspiration for Web Eraser, the company could have Sherlocked the feature from the third-party app 1Blocker. The application features a similar way of erasing ads, where users would tap ads to make them disappear." They may also have been inspired by Simplified Page....

As long as I can turn it off/hide it they can knock themselves out. 

Will the web eraser feature remove pop up videos, such as the ones that appear on this site?

I use the 'Reader' function in Safari quite a bit, but sometimes it doesn't work very well. Seems like something that AI could help make better. 

Web ads suck but how else do you think your favorite websites will stay in business? Are you prepared to pay a subscription to every site? I doubt it…

Apple’s soon-to-launch iOS 18 software could include an exciting AI-based privacy feature as part of an overhaul of the Safari browser. The new iPhone feature, dubbed Web Eraser, allows you to browse the web while removing portions of the page, such as ads or other content you don’t want to see.

Web Eraser comes as part of a wider AI-based browser overhaul in iOS 18, according to Apple-focused website Apple Insider , which first reported the news.

Currently being tested by the iPhone maker, the overhaul includes the advanced content blocking features enabled by Web Eraser, as well as UI tweaks and AI-powered Intelligent Search. The changes to Safari will be included in iOS 18 and macOS 15, according to the report, which cites “people familiar with the matter.”

What Web Eraser Does In iOS 18

From the looks of it, Web Eraser in iOS 18 is a pretty cool feature, building on privacy tools already built into the iPhone maker’s Safari browser. Specifically, it's “designed to allow users to remove, or erase, specific portions of web pages,” including banner ads, images, text or entire page sections.

Apparently, Safari will remember your preferences so they aren’t limited to one specific browsing session. “When visiting a web page with previously erased content, Safari will inform the user that the page has been modified to reflect their desired changes. The browser will also give the user the option to revert changes and restore the webpage to its initial, unaltered state,” Apple Insider writes.

The new controls will be easy to access in the Safari Settings menu.

Exciting New iOS 18 Features Coming Soon

Web Eraser comes alongside multiple new AI-based iOS 18 features for your iPhone, most of which will be processed on the device , at least initially.

It looks like Intelligent Search will use Apple’s large language model Ajax to identify topics and key phrases within a web page.

Essentially, Web Eraser in iOS 18 is an ad blocking feature as offered by many companies, but it’s built into the Safari browser. It’s a great move for privacy—and ease of use since it’s ready made. However, it could create problems for publishers, who rely on web ads for their business revenue.

Apple of course, values privacy as one of its key marketing messages and iOS 18 seems to embrace that ethos wholeheartedly. Apple’s new iPhone operating system will launch in just over a month at its Worldwide Developers Conference and there’s a lot to look forward to for privacy-conscious users.

The fourth beta versions of iOS 17.5, macOS Sonoma 14.5, and iPadOS 17.5 have been released to users engaging in the beta testing programs for Apple system software. Additionally, new betas for watchOS 10.5, tvOS 17.5, and visionOS 1.2, are also available.

While it’s not clear when the final versions of these system software versions will be made available, it’s widely assumed they will be released at or near the scheduled May 7 Apple Event next week.

How to Download iOS 17.5 beta 4 & macOS Sonoma 14.5 beta 4

If your device is enrolled to participate in a beta testing program, you can find the latest beta versions available in the software update mechanism of your devices settings:

• Go to Settings app, then go to “General”
• Go to “Software Update”, and choose to install the latest beta version of iOS 17.5/iPadOS 17.5

Downloading macOS Sonoma 14.5 beta 4

• Go to “General”, and then go to “Software Update”
• Choose to download and install the latest macOS Sonoma 14.5 beta 4 release

If you have an Apple Watch, Apple TV, or Apple Vision Pro, you can download those beta versions through their respective software update mechanisms.

What is expected in iOS 17.5, macOS Sonoma 14.5, iPadOS 17.5, watchOS 10.5, tvOS 17.5

Beta versions of system software are under active development and therefore it’s always possible that things could change before the final version is issued to the general public.

With that said, it seems like the majority of changes to iOS 17.5, iPadOS 17.5, macOS Sonoma 14.5, watchOS 10.5, and tvOS 17.5 will be bug fixes, and security enhancements.

There are no major new features or changes expected in these versions of system software, with the exception of iOS 17.5 for European Union users, who will gain a feature that allows them to download apps outside of the App Store and through websites instead. That capability will not exist outside of the EU however.

It’s also likely that iOS 17.5/iPadOS 17.5 will include support for any updated devices that are expected to debut at the upcoming Apple Event on May 7 , which the rumormill expects will focus on new and updated iPads.

When does the final version of iOS 17.5, iPadOS 17.5, macOS Sonoma 14.5 come out?

Nobody outside of Apple knows the expected release date of any system software, unless they announce it directly.

However, it’s common for Apple to release new system software near, on, or after, Apple Events, and one is scheduled for next week on May 7. Therefore it’s reasonable to expect the final versions of these system software releases to debut as soon as next week, or soon after.

What are the latest current versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, etc?

The most current versions of system software for Apple devices are iOS 17.4.1 for iPhone, iPadOS 17.4.1 for iPad , macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 for Mac , watchOS 10.4 for Apple Watch, tvOS 17.4 for Apple TV, and visionOS 1.1.1 for Apple Vision Pro.
