film trip to paradise

Now streaming on:

Watching “Ticket to Paradise,” one can’t help but think of the famous James Stewart line from 1940’s “The Philadelphia Story.” It goes, “The prettiest sight in this fine, pretty world is the privileged class enjoying its privileges.”

To be clear, the privileged class in Ol Parker ’s frustratingly unexceptional rom-com doesn’t only consist of the story’s chief characters: successful architects, art dealers, and recent grads of a fancy college, with pockets deep enough to afford an extended luxury vacation in Bali. In this specific case, it also consists of two bona fide movie stars— George Clooney and Julia Roberts (you might have heard of them here and there)—having a ball with the well-earned privileges of their status as the-last-of-their-kind Hollywood superstars, while bickering their way through some bitter zingers and sarcastic gotchas.

In that regard, it certainly is a pretty sight, to witness two gorgeous, forever-charismatic silver screen royals unite against a breathtaking tropical backdrop (and in frothy promotional videos), with their gracefully aging visages front and center before the rest of us mortals. Sadly though, the loose link between “Ticket to Paradise” and George Cukor ’s screwball classic stop right there, at that aforementioned quote. And you should blame it on a dispiriting script that relies too heavily on its A-list actors’ magnetic presence alone, instead of bothering with a good story that we can root for.

So let’s jump to another quote from another film. At this stage, imagine this die-hard romantic-comedy devotee, throwing her jazz hands in the air and yelling like the late William Hurt in “ A History of Violence ”: “How do you f**k that up?” Indeed, how on earth do the effortless charms of Roberts and Clooney not yield the kind of rom-com we used to routinely get in the ‘90s? The issue is the second romantic tale that unfolds around them, one that doesn’t hit a single believable note. It belongs to Lily (a delightful Kaitlyn Dever in an underwritten part), who is the abovesaid college graduate on her way to a Bali vacation, with her fun and sexually very active female sidekick, Wren ( Billie Lourd ), and an invitation to join a top-shelf law firm on her return.

Soon enough, Lily decides to get married to the handsome seaweed farmer Gede ( Maxime Bouttier ) she’s somehow rapidly fallen in love with, after the laziest meet-cute sequence imaginable. (It’s more appropriate to call that scene just plain meet and drop the cute entirely.) So instead of enjoying her time with Wren, having some wild nights out, and returning home for the bright future that awaits—you know, like any intelligent young woman of her caliber would do—Lily dedicates her entire being to Gede. There is of course nothing wrong with love at first sight in life or in movies, the kind that this critic is shamelessly in favor of, especially in cinematic contexts. But to make the massive life decision of marriage and deciding to stay in Bali for it on a whim? Even the rugged ice harvester Kristoff of “ Frozen ” laughed at this idea: “You mean to tell me you got engaged to someone you just met that day?” And that was a Disney movie in a 19 th Century setting.

Objectively speaking, Lily doesn’t decide on the marriage that day exactly. But the film is so lacking in building the couple’s romance and chemistry that it feels like a same-day verdict. What co-writers Parker and Daniel Pipski instead do is use Lily’s storyline as an excuse to bring Clooney’s David and Roberts’ Georgia together, Lily’s parents and each other’s exes that hate one another. But the duty calls and the duo embarks on a mission to Bali to end this ridiculous fling as a pair of responsible parents.

In fairness, “Ticket to Paradise” earns some goodwill during the David-Georgia scenes and gives the two some sharp moments of squabble, several of which the film’s trailer unfortunately spoils. But the ex-couple’s sexual tension and natural ease at hating each other earn the admission price, even when the momentary bliss we feel in their presence fades away with Lily and Gede reappearing frequently and a present-day romantic interest of Georgia (played by Lucas Bravo ) taking up too much time. It would have been one thing if “Ticket to Paradise” spent some real time thinking through the young fiancés, helping us understand what makes them interesting and right for each other. But in the aftermath, you’ll be shocked at how little you’ll learn about either, apart from their vast affection for the locale they often call beautiful. Well, of course, it is beautiful because what we see is mostly a luxury resort, a fact that makes the “I understand why she likes it here” quote from the parents painfully funny when they show empathy towards Lily’s decision to stay. Doesn’t everyone like a luxury resort?

We do get to see some things outside of the resort, like the lovely grounds of Gede’s supportive family and a pair of touristic sites. But “Ticket to Paradise” seems oddly disinterested in any family dynamics or anything that has to do with Bali, save for a couple of nuptial traditions cartoonishly represented. In the world of this film, everything is background noise and an item on a list of excuses to bring George and Julia together. The saddest casualty of this disposition is Wren. But with her P.J. Soles vibes, Billie Lourd still runs with it enchantingly, committing the cardinal sin of being far more memorable than the bride herself. Perhaps in revenge, the film periodically forgets about her existence.

Bless the old-school stars Roberts and Clooney for elevating this lackluster mélange and in certain instances, even making you forget about the non-sensical film that surrounds them. But that’s hardly enough, especially if you are hoping for a homecoming for the rom-coms of yore.

In theaters today.

'Ticket to Paradise' Cast and Character Guide: Who's Who in the Romantic Comedy

Ol Parker has put together the perfect blend of veteran and young actors in the 2000s-style rom-com Ticket to Paradise.

After a long break from the genre, Julia Roberts returned to romantic comedy alongside George Clooney as a divorced couple in Ticket to Paradise . The Academy Award-winning duo has previously co-starred in many successful films like Money Monster, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind , and the first two Ocean films. Ticket to Paradise is a 2000s-style formulaic rom-com bustling with drama and surprises in the narrative. Roberts and Clooney playing the divorced couple showcase strong chemistry and comedic timing. The two decide to team up and sabotage the impending wedding of their daughter, Lily.

Gaining critical acclaim after writing and directing the fun musical sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again , the writer/director Ol Parker has again awed the audience with Ticket to Paradise . Daniel Pipski also served as the writer of the film alongside him. Parker has managed to capture the early 2000s heart-warming comedic essence in the film. His direction is impressive, the locations look gorgeous, and it maintains a solid pace throughout. It's safe to say Parker is on the path to rising in his ranks as a compelling director.

Even though the film rose to popularity because of the presence of Roberts and Clooney, Parker has bagged some talented young actors in the film, too. The trailer of Ticket to Paradise reveals that the film isn't only about the old ex-couple, but their love-struck daughter. The film keeps the audience invested and entertained with the young-love drama while her estranged parents try to teach her the necessary lessons everyone has to learn about love and marriage. Here is the cast of talented actors starring in this enthralling rom-com.

Julia Roberts as Georgia Cotton

Julia Roberts is best known for her works in Notting Hill , Pretty Woman , Erin Brockovich , and the iconic no-man movie, Steel Magnolias . In Ticket to Paradise , she plays the role of Georgia Cotton, who split with her husband David after 5 years of marriage. She exudes confidence and wit from the very first frame of the movie. As her character begins in a bidding event and continues with her going to a restaurant with a friend where she covers the check, the movie establishes that she is wealthy. She demonstrates her wit by making sly jokes about her ex-husband while giving her friend a history of their relationship. The audience also learns from this that Georgia detests her ex-husband.

However, Georgia loves her daughter, Lily, who is the only reason she teams up with David. Roberts is natural in her role and does not miss a beat in delivering her witty dialogues. Her body language screams confidence and her chemistry with George Clooney keeps the film going. Despite the plot not being very original, the individual characters in Ticket to Paradise make it entertaining, and Robert's Georgia is one of her most compelling comedic performances.

George Clooney as David Cotton

George Clooney needs no introduction as a Hollywood megastar. His most well-received performances can be seen in The Descendants , Up in the Air , Michael Clayton, and the space survival story, Gravity . Clooney is not new to the Rom-Com genre and is appreciated for his comic timing and delivery. Given this, he came off as a natural in his role as David Cotton. David is like any regular divorced man living happily and successfully as an architect. His and Georgia's bickering and banter serve as the comic element in the film, and Clooney holds it well on his part. Being a recipient of two Oscars, perfection is expected of Clooney, and he didn't disappoint.

David Cotton loathes his wife, but he's a caring father. He is charming and plays his part smoothly. While his role in Ticket to Paradise isn't the best of his career, it's a modest try. If one can ignore the flaws in writing and plot, Clooney's role isn't really lacking. David Cotton is a character that one would neither hate, nor root for. The jokes fall flat in some instances, but those aren't the fault of Clooney's acting.

Kaitlyn Dever as Lily Cotton

Kaitlyn Dever is a promising young actress who was also seen in the leading role in Rosaline , a recently released goofy retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet . Her most notable projects include the FX crime drama television series Justified , the ABC/Fox sitcom Last Man Standing , the Netflix drama miniseries Unbelievable , and the Hulu drama Dopesick . In Ticket to Paradise , Dever plays the 25-year-old picture-perfect and beautiful newly minted law graduate, Lily Cotton. She's the only child of David and Georgia Cotton and is loved by both.

Lily is the main instrument of the movie's plot. The film sets its gear when she decides to spontaneously marry a Balinese guy who she fell in love with in just 37 days during her graduation trip. As she gives up her career and preps for her dream wedding, her parents decide to team up and sabotage the marriage, believing it to be a mistake. Lily's acting is compelling as a youngster trying to live life on her terms while also trying to maintain a healthy relationship with her parents. Dever is adorable and excellent at delivering her role.

Maxime Bouttier as Gede

Maxime Bouttier started his acting career young in 2013 with the film Refrain . In Ticket to Paradise, Maxime plays the local seaweed farmer, Gede, who Lily falls head over heels for. Maxime does more than his bit to shore up the film with his youthful presence. Bouttier's chemistry with Dever is charming. They provide a depth of liveliness to Ticket in Paradise as two young lovers navigating obstacles that weren't their fault, which complements Clooney and Roberts' and the film's dominant charm nicely. His enticing looks and equally brilliant acting might make him the next Hollywood heartthrob. As an easy-going, handsome young man, Bouttier is easily likable as Gede.

Billie Lourd as Wren Butler

Billie Lourd is known for her roles in the Fox horror comedy series Scream Queens and the FX horror anthology series American Horror Story . In Ticket to Paradise , Lourd plays the role of Wren Butler, an essential best friend to Lily. She is present throughout the film beside Lily, supporting her and being that constant shoulder for her to lean on. Her role isn't central to the plot, but her friendship with Lily is refreshing amidst all the chaos surrounding the film. Lourd will be seen in an upcoming comedy, And Mrs. , by Sideswiped director Daniel Reisinger .

Lucas Bravo as Paul

Netflix's Emily in Paris fame, Lucas Bravo plays the role of Georgia's boyfriend Paul in Ticket to Paradise. He is a commercial pilot with blue eyes, good looks, and tonnes of charisma. He travels to Bali intending to pop the question to her. With this revelation, it looks as though Georgia has rekindled her youthful passion for romance. The movie's climax is the only place to find out the truth, though. Despite playing an underwritten and less explored role, Bravo successfully resists being carried away by the huge star power that drives Ticket to Paradise .

Alongside them, other talented supporting actors in Ticket to Paradise include Sean Lynch as Rob, Arielle Carver-O’Neill as Kimberley, and Romy Poulier as Lauren.

Everything To Know About Ticket To Paradise

Julia Roberts and George Clooney are (finally!) back together on the big screen.

US actor George Clooney and US actress Julia Roberts attends at the photocall for 'Money Monster' at...

Julia Roberts and George Clooney are set to reunite on the silver screen in a big way this year, thanks to upcoming rom-com Ticket to Paradise . On the heels of J. Lo’s movie Marry Me , Ticket to Paradise refreshes the genre with familiar actors taking on a zany plot. The flick, directed by Ol Parker (of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again fame) is the latest on-screen collab between Clooney and Roberts, a friendship that’s spanned over 20 years since they met on the set of Ocean’s Eleven . In that time, they’ve worked on 4 movies together , with Ticket to Paradise marking their fifth, forging one of Hollywood’s most iconic bonds.

In an interview with Variety at the Cannes Film Festival , Roberts took a moment to talk about the upcoming feature and joke about her experience filming with Clooney. Jokingly, she said the movie is “probably going to be terrible” because of how funny her and her co-star are, claiming “there’s too much potential for it to be great, it’ll just implode on it itself.” If Roberts’ words are anything to go by, Ticket to Paradise sounds like a treat.

So, what can we expect from the A-list acting duo in Ticket to Paradise ? Everything from an in-flight argument to drunken beer pong in Bali. With the help of some of Hollywood’s favorite up-and-comers, the rom-com is shaping up to be a modern classic in the genre’s canon. Here’s everything you need to know about Ticket to Paradise, including the plot, cast, trailer, and release date.

Ticket to Paradise Plot

The official synopsis of the film details Clooney and Roberts as “exes who find themselves on a shared mission to stop their lovestruck daughter from making the same mistake they once made.” Based on the trailer, the pair agree to “call a truce” with one another to successfully trick their daughter (played by Kaitlyn Dever) into dumping her fiancé, who she met recently in Bali, before she impulsively marries him. The ex-couple’s characters are concerned that their daughter is making this big decision too quickly, “just like her mother did,” Roberts says in the preview.

Julia Roberts, George Clooney sitting next to each other on a boat with Kaitlyn Dever, Maxime Boutti...

The trailer gives further hints to what we can expect from Ticket to Paradise , including playful competition and banter between Roberts and Clooney, Roberts’ character stealing her daughter’s wedding rings, and Clooney’s character being bit by a dolphin. A brief dance montage of the two closes the trailer out, promising viewers a goofy, enjoyable rom-com.

Ticket to Paradise Cast

Clooney and Roberts are the star-appeal in this forthcoming flick, but the supporting cast is stacked as well. Dever ( Dear Evan Hansen ) plays the pair’s daughter while newcomer Maxime Bouttier plays alongside as Dever’s love interest. Billie Lourd ( American Horror Story: Cult ) and Lucas Bravo ( Emily in Paris ) round out the main cast.

Ticket to Paradise Trailer

The official trailer for the film was released on June 29, giving audiences a chance to see the island hijinks Clooney and Roberts get up to in the film. The dreamy, beachy backdrop of Ticket to Paradise is on full display in the almost 3-minute trailer, full of bright colors and clever one-liners from the cast.

The tension between the two in the first few seconds of the trailer is evident, as the exes realize they’re seated next to each other on a flight. “Excuse me, ma’am, I need to sit somewhere else,” Roberts’ character said, “we used to be married.” Clooney responds, “worst 19 years of my life” before quipping with Roberts: “We were only married for 5,” she says, “I’m counting the recovery,” he fires back.

Ticket to Paradise Release Date

Because the Universal film was set back a month while filming in Australia due to lockdown, the release date has been slightly modified. Ticket to Paradise is officially hitting theaters October 21, and we can’t wait to see Clooney and Roberts reunited on the big screen.

'Ticket To Paradise' Is Set In Bali—But Here's Where It Was Actually Filmed

The new romantic comedy, starring julia roberts and george clooney, is full of stunning tropical island scenery and splashy comic antics..

Tangalooma Island Resort

The new romantic comedy that reunites stars Julia Roberts and George Clooney, Ticket to Paradise is set on the Indonesian island of Bali, but here's a fun nugget of movie trivia: It wasn't actually filmed there. What tropical paradise was chosen to fill in? That would be Moreton, an island in the Australian territory of Queensland that's located just a ferry ride away from Brisbane. And assorted other locales along the Gold Coast and in the Whitsundays were also involved.

Moreton, which is fringed with protected beaches and washed by aqua-hued waters, served as one of the outdoor film sets where beach scenes from the movie, which features Roberts and Clooney as a divorced couple who travel together to Bali to try to stop their daughter from marrying a man she just met, were filmed in December 2021. The island is home to Tangalooma Island Resort , which boasts a range of accommodation types from hotel rooms to beachfront villas and was the setting for the dolphins swimming scene and other coastal segments.

Hamilton Island

However, interior shots (Roberts' and Clooney's hotel rooms, for example) were a stage set at Gold Coast Studios, while the Long Pavilion at Qualia resort on Hamilton Island served as the fictional resort's lobby and bar. An incredible Tangalooma sunset does have a major cameo toward the end of the movie.

"Only a 75-minute ferry ride from Brisbane, we often position ourselves as a 'conveniently remote tropical paradise,' with our seasonal temperatures, blue waters, tropical palms and relaxed island vibe perfectly fitting the Bali description," said Bernie O'Keefe, Tangalooma's Director of Marketing.

Glass Onion house

You Can’t Buy the Private Island Home from Netflix’s ‘Glass Onion’—But You Can Vacation There

Edward Norton's billionaire retreat is a villa at the Greek resort Amanzoe, and it's just as spectacular as it looks.

Other filming locations around Queensland included the Gold Coast's outdoor Carrara Markets , Hamilton Island's Catseye Beach , North Burleigh Beach and Palm Bay Resort in the Whitsundays. To follow in the steps of the cast and crew, check out this guide by Tourism Queensland .

Screen Rant

Where was ticket to paradise filmed all filming locations explained.

Ticket To Paradise reunited Julia Roberts and George Clooney for their fifth film together. This time they found themselves on a tropical island.

Julia Roberts and George Clooney headed for a tropical getaway when they filmed their 2022 Rom-Com, Ticket To Paradise . Both stars thrived in the 90s and early 2000s with their roles in romantic comedies like Clooney's One Fine Day and Intolerable Cruelty and Roberts' Pretty Woman and Notting Hill . The buzz around romcoms died down toward the end of the 2000s, but they have seemingly been on the rise again, with Ticket To Paradise grossing $172.1 million at the U.S. box office. The film was likely a success because of its superstar leads, though its tropical location may have also drawn some audiences in.

Ticket To Paradise , directed by Ol Parker , centered on divorced parents Georgia Cotton (Roberts) and David Cotton (Clooney) headed to Bali, Indonesia, to prevent their recent college graduate daughter from getting married. The film utilized its location's turquoise oceans and bountiful vegetation, creating a setting it'd be easy to fall in love, even if the love interest is your ex-spouse. While Ticket To Paradise was set in Bali, it was not filmed in the Asian country. The cast and crew were set to film there, but due to Covid-19, they moved their filming locations down under.

8 Ticket To Paradise Begins In Los Angeles

About 18 minutes go by in Ticket To Paradise before Georgia and David arrive in Bali. Los Angeles is one of the listed filming locations, and while it's not confirmed exactly what was shot there, it seems the film's beginning was likely done in the California city. Some of the beginning scenes are Lily in her dorm room with her roommate and close friend Wren, her college graduation, and the airport scenes when her parents drop her off for her flight to Bali and when they arrive to fly to Bali.

7 Georgia & David Arrive At Katie's Cove

When Lily arrives in Bali, she meets a seaweed farmer named Gede. A month into their relationship, she decides to give up her plans to become a lawyer and move to Bali to marry Gede. Her parents arrive in Bali seemingly for the wedding but have a plan to stop her from what they believe is a terrible decision. The scene where they get off the boat at the island was shot at Katie's Cove on Haslewood Island in the Whitsundays, Australia.

Related: Where to Watch Ticket to Paradise

The Whitsunday Islands are known for their crystal-clear oceans, resembling those in Bali, making it the perfect dupe. It's a pretty quick scene in which the divorced couple convinces their daughter they're happy for her, hiding their true feelings about her marriage that she was worried they wouldn't approve of.

6 Hamilton Island Was Also Feature In Ticket To Paradise

Another location apart of the Whitsundays is Hamilton Island. A few scenes from the movie were shot here, including Lily and Gede's wedding and a soccer game between David and the kids in Gede's family. The game took place on Catseye Beach, while one scene from the wedding, where Lily walks down the shore with her bridesmaids, was also filmed on the Island. At this point, Georgia and David realize they can't hold their daughter back from living the life she wants because of what they think is best for her. At the wedding, they finally give the couple their blessing, which calms Lily and Gede's worries.

5 Georgia & David Stay At The Qualia Luxury Resort

A good portion of Ticket To Paradise takes place at the tropical resort where Georgia and David stay. They have rooms next to each other, each with an unbelievable ocean view from an open porch with its own pool. Luckily, anyone who fell in love with the resort while watching the film and wants to visit it themselves can.

The rooms they stayed in are part of a real resort called Qualia, and it's on Hamilton Island. In one prominent scene, Georgia spent the night in David's room, only for her boyfriend to show up the next morning. To hide it from him, the two switch rooms, confusing her boyfriend, especially when he sees David wearing Georgia's yoga pants.

4 Gede's Seaweed Farm Was Shot At Palm Bay Resort

Gede's seaweed farm was shot in the water at Palm Bay Resort, Long Island, also part of the Whitsundays Islands. A prominent scene is when A Ticket To Paradise characters Georgia and David harvest seaweed and turn it into a competition of who can gather the most and produce the largest seaweed pile. Lily and Gede watch on from the shore as her parents viciously try to beat each other. Though their competition soon turns into fun, and Lily is confused to see her divorced parents laughing with each other.

3 David Gets Bit By A Dolphin At Lucinda Bay

Most people fear getting bit by sharks in the ocean, not dolphins. However, in Ticket To Paradise , when Lily and Gede jump into the water to swim with the friendly dolphins, one has it out for David and soars through the water towards him and bites his leg. The scene was shot at Lucinda Bay near the Tangalooma Island Resort, which is known to be a popular location to see dolphins.

2 Lily's Sunset Wedding Takes Place On Moreton Island

Lily's wedding was not shot all in one destination as a scene after she says her vows was shot at Moreton Island in Queensland, Australia. In the scene, Lily stands at the shore with her father, and he finally accepts that Lily knows what's best for herself more than he and Georgia do. While he thought preventing the wedding from happening was him preventing Lily from ruining her life, he'd be holding her back if he made her leave Bali. The two admire the sunset before walking off to dance at her wedding celebration.

1 Ticket To Paradise Shot At Tamborine National Park

Ticket To Paradise featured some beautiful beach and ocean scenes but also took place in the rainforest. These scenes were shot at Tamborine National Park on the Gold Coast, south of Brisbane. A crucial scene in the rainforest occurs when Georgia, David, Lily, and Gede get caught in a rainstorm after encountering a wild pig and after Lily finds out her parents have stolen her wedding ring because they don't agree with her marrying Gede. The scene also leads to a romantic sunset scene between Georgia and David, where they realize they still love each other, leading them to get back together at the end of Ticket To Paradise .

Co-written and directed by Oliver Parker, ‘Ticket to Paradise’ is a romantic comedy movie that revolves around two divorced parents — David and Georgia Cotton — who coincidentally cross each other’s paths again as they visit their daughter, Lily, to stop her from getting married to a man, Gede, she has just got to know. Setting their differences and grudges aside, David and Georgia decide to team up and plot schemes to sabotage Lily’s wedding. In this way, they can save their daughter from making the same mistake they made when they married 25 years ago.

Featuring a stellar cast comprising Julia Roberts , George Clooney, Kaitlyn Dever, Maxime Bouttier, and Billie Lourd, it features several comedic elements and picturesque locations, including the backdrop of the open waters. The visual aesthetic of the film is enough to incite curiosity about the actual filming sites of ‘Ticket to Paradise’ in your mind. Well, you are in luck because we are here to provide you with all the details regarding the same!

Ticket to Paradise Filming Locations

‘Ticket to Paradise’ was filmed in Australia, Indonesia, and California, specifically in Queensland, Bali, and Los Angeles. As per reports, the principal photography for the rom-com film commenced in November 2021, but the production got halted for a while in January 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, it got wrapped up in February 2022. Now, let’s take a look at all the scenic locations that appear in the Julia Roberts-starrer!

Queensland, Australia

A majority of ‘Ticket to Paradise’ was lensed in Queensland, the second-largest and third-most-populous state in Australia. The filming unit set up camp on the Whitsunday Islands, which doubled up as Bali in the movie. The original plan was to tape all the scenes set in Bali on location, but due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the production team had to settle for the equally beautiful site, the Whitsunday Islands.

Chalkie’s Beach AKA Stockyard Beach and Whitehaven Beach in Whitsundays served as a couple of filming sites for the film. In addition, the production team built Balinese-style huts on the beachfront of the Palm Bay Resort on Long Island, one of Queensland’s hidden gems, in order to make the place stand in for Bali. Moreover, the cast and crew even taped a few scenes on location in the coastal locality of Airlie Beach and qualia, a 5-star resort at 20 Whitsunday Boulevard in Hamilton Island.

The scene where David and Georgia arrive in Bali was taped in and around Hamilton Island Airport, while the golfing scenes were seemingly recorded in the Hamilton Island Golf Club located on Dent Island near Hamilton Island. Moreover, One Tree Hill and Bougainvillea Bar on Resort Drive overlooking Catseye Beach were also utilized for shooting the movie. Meanwhile, Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island was converted into a Bali paradise for a few scenes.

Many sites around the City of Gold Coast, the local government area that includes the Gold Coast and the surrounding areas in Queensland, also served as shooting sites for ‘Ticket to Paradise.’ The HOTA Gallery at 135 Bundall Road in Surfers Paradise stood in for an LA art gallery in the movie. The vicinity of the Tamborine National Park in the Gold Coast hinterland, particularly a 1920s house set in its private jungle and a creek in the Tamborine Mountain, was utilized for lensing some portions.

In addition, some scenes were also taped in cane fields near the rural locality of Norwell and Carrara Markets on Cnr Manchester Road and Gooding Drive. Furthermore, during the filming schedule, the cast and crew members were spotted taping several pivotal sequences in and around Brisbane, the capital and most populous city of Queensland. The sites in Brisbane that served as production locations are Brisbane International Airport on Airport Drive, Queen’s Wharf, and the Brisbane City Hall at 64 Adelaide Street.

Bali, Indonesia

Although a majority of scenes set in Bali were taped in Queensland, it seems that a few exterior shots were lensed on location in Bali, a breathtakingly beautiful province of Indonesia. Over the years, Bali has hosted the production of many movies and TV shows; some of them are ‘ Red Notice ,’ ‘The Fall,’ and ‘Bali 2002.’

Los Angeles, California

It seems that to record some additional portions for ‘Ticket to Paradise,’ the filming unit traveled to Los Angeles, the largest city in California and the second most populous city in the country. Apart from ‘Ticket to Paradise,’ the City of Angels has aided the production of several filming projects over the years, such as ‘ Bullet Train ,’ ‘ Blonde ,’ and ‘ House of the Dragon .’

and this is why I don’t go to the movies anymore, it litterally just came to the theaters

It opened on Oct. 21st, which is six weeks ago. Is this really your idea of “just came?”

Still playing at theaters by me! Not that I’m complaining, I’d rather watch at home.

The previews for this movie certainly look cute

I guess I’m alone that the actors in this movie ruin it for me. The plot is fine but I’m not really a fan of either of them especially George clooney

If it watch, it will be for Kaitlyn Dever. She’s very talented.

I really enjoyed Booksmart so I agree.

My free one year Charter subscription runs out on the 13th so great timing. I can watch it and then cancel since there is nothing else on it right now I want to watch.

Day trip paradise: What to know about Western NC's Forest Heritage Scenic Byway

film trip to paradise

There are 62 scenic byways in North Carolina. Some of Western North Carolina's most famous include the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mount Mitchell Scenic Drive.

There is another one closeby worth checking out: The Forest Heritage Scenic Byway starts in Brevard and leads drivers to scenic locations like Looking Glass Falls.

Forest Heritage Scenic Byway winds through about 64 miles of scenic WNC, passing through the Pisgah National Forest and intersecting the Blue Ridge Parkway and Waterfall Byway along the way.

Like the parkway, the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway area is chock full of things to do and see. Here's your guide.

More: Should Blue Ridge Parkway have National Historic Landmark designation? What to know.

Where is the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway?

A dedicated page on Scenicbyways.info states that the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway is 64 miles in length, a drive of around two hours. Beginning in Brevard and ending in Rosman, the road features areas perfect for recreation and scenic views including Sliding Rock, Pink Beds bog, several waterfalls and plenty more.

According to Romanticasheville.com, elevation of the byway ranges from around 2,100-5,340 feet.

Things to do on the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway

It would be easy to turn a two-hour drive of the byway into a weekend trip. Here are a few of the many options for enjoying the area:

  • Hiking - With most of the byway winding through Pisgah National Forest, it should come as no surprise that there are plenty of hiking options available along the way. Enjoy waterfall hikes including Twin Falls and Moore Cove Falls , the unique bog environment of Pink Beds Loop and many more.
  • Camping - Hoping to stay the night? Enjoy the river-adjacent Davidson Campground or former logging camp Sunburst Campground .
  • Swimming - The byway also includes multiple swimming options, including the waterfall swimming hole at Looking Glass Falls and the famous naturally formed Sliding Rock.
  • Picnicking - Enjoy picnicking and river access at Coontree Picnic Area , Sycamore Flats Picnic Shelter and plenty more directly along the byway's path through the forest.
  • Culture & education - Driving the byway is also an excellent chance to learn about the area's rich natural and cultural history through institutions like the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education and the Cradle of Forestry.

What is a scenic byway?

To be designated a National Scenic Byway by the US Department of Transportation, a byway must meet the criteria for at least one of the following six "intrinsic qualities":

  • Archeological
  • Recreational

The dedicated webpage says that these features contributing to the distinctive characteristics of the corridor’s intrinsic quality should be recognized throughout the region, and considered regionally significant. In other words, National Scenic Byways are known for having something for everyone.

Death in Paradise's Ralf Little issues 'explanation' amid fan concern over missed radio interview

The star stepped down from his role as di neville parker in series 13.

Nicky Morris

Death in Paradise star Ralf Little has taken to social media with an explanation for why he failed to appear for an interview on Radio X on Thursday.

The actor was due to sit down with host Toby Tarrant to chat about the final few live shows of his podcast tour, Two Pints With Will and Ralf 2024 April Fools Tour , but failed to show up.

During the broadcast, Toby, who was filling in for Chris Moyles on the breakfast show, told listeners: "All morning I've talked about how he's regarded as one of the nicest and loveliest men in the business, and he stood me up."

His co-host Dominic Byrne chimed in: "There's been a diary issue, hasn't there? I think," prompting Toby to speculate: "I mean, there's two options here. I reckon either we'll get a message saying, 'We thought it was tomorrow'."

Ralf Little as DI Neville Parker in series 13 of Death in Paradise

In a video posted to Instagram on Thursday, Ralf explained it was an innocent mistake and reassured fans that "everything is fine".

MORE DEATH IN PARADISE

"Hi, just something to clear up because some people have been a little concerned," he began. "I was supposed to be on Radio X and Heart Radio this morning to talk about my podcast live show, which has its final few shows this weekend, but I wasn't on the radio.

"Both Heart Radio and Radio X said, 'We have Ralf Little coming in to talk later,' and I wasn't there, didn't turn up."

Sharing the reason for his absence, Ralf continued: "Now the reason for that is, I wish I had a funny anecdote to tell you but I don't, it's more rubbish than that. I have stupid, fat thumbs and typed the wrong date into my calendar. I thought it was tomorrow morning and it was in fact this morning.

"I was in the gym and when I came out, I had a lot of messages going, 'Are you ok? You were supposed to be on the radio this morning, is everything alright? Are you alive? '

"I am ok, everything is fine. I'm just a fool," he said, before apologising to both radio stations and fans who were expecting to hear from him. "Hopefully, we'll get to do it again sometime and I'll turn up," he added.

It comes just a month after Ralf announced his departure from Death in Paradise after four years of playing its lead detective, Neville Parker.

During an appearance on ITV's Lorraine earlier this month, Ralf shared the reason for his departure after four seasons. "This last series was always going to be my last series," explained the 44-year-old. "I spoke to the BBC and Red Planet, the production company, and we all agreed.

"I f it was just a heart decision I would have wanted to do it for 20 more years . But just for the show and for my character Neville it just sort of felt like his story was finished and his journey deserved to be completed. He deserved a happy ending and it just felt right."
