Family Fun Tours in Florence with Kids
Add Excitement & Adventure to your Vacation
In the same way, the Renaissance dreamed of creating a city in the dimensions of man, these tour ideas are about creating an adventure in Florence to the dimension of young travelers ranging from 4 to pre-teens to college-bound adults. Each type of tourist brings its own expectations, attention spans, and personal interest to the table and it takes a carefully planned itinerary to combine all of this and produce engagement, interest, and fun memories.
The tour ideas listed below offer itineraries and themes that build bridges connecting age and interests on common grounds while offering the bases for a fun and entertaining family-friendly tour.
1. Pint-size Cooking Lessons
Starting Time : 5pm Duration :3 hours Appropriate Age : 6 and up
Let's Go Cooking
This is truly an idea that appeals to children, teenagers, and adults: the whole family will have a "hands-on" experience. Using traditional recipes, the varied menu will feature something for everyone: from pizza to fresh handmade pasta, from the classical meat sauce to vegetarian options. Your chefs have a planned a variety of delicious and genuine flavors which will satisfy even the most demanding of taste buds, encouraging family members to work together - creating lasting memories of their time in Florence.
First, you cook and then you enjoy a sit-down meal where you will feat upon your end results. Buon Appetito!
If you have kids younger than 6 years old, consider this cooking class by Antonella to make just pizza at her apartment: she's able to offer smaller groups and welcome families with smaller kids.

2. Twilight Adventure in Florence
Starting Time : 6pm Duration : 2.5 hours Appropriate Age : 5 and up
The city looks like a fairytale under the stars
This evening walking tour will bridge the age difference between adults and kids and bring lots of fun to your holidays. Instead of strolling at the hottest part of the day this tour uses the twilight hours to show you the magic of Florence.
But the best thing about this tour is that it combines the beauty of Florence under the first stars of the evening with treasure hunts, games, quizzes, photo contests and other activities which spark the kid's attention. Your guide will tailor the walk, the stories, and activities to the family interests and kids’ ages.
3. Skip the Line Guided Tours with Kids
Duration : 2 hours Appropriate Age : 8 and up
Starting times for guided tours: 9am & 2pm
Accademia Gallery
Uffizi Gallery
Starting times for tour: 10:30am
Archeology Museum
Florence is a city of museums, where art and cultures throughout the years come together and tell the story of the city. Special tours geared for the attention span of your tourists can make the city come alive for the entire family.
While parents admire the architecture, interesting facts and the short lines, your tour leaders will have stories and games that kids can relate, keeping them entertained...and learning something new.
These three main museums in Florence cover Michelangelo's more than life-size statue of David, the paintings of Botticelli and the tombs of the Egyptians and Etruscans.
4. Creating your own Marbled Paper
Are your kids the "hands-on" type, and the idea of making a special souvenir to take home has a nice appeal? Then you will want to arrange a 2 hours session with Francesca Vannini and her paper-making class. The colorful designs that you will see all around Florence, actually are native to the area and this artisan will show you and your kids how to make authentic Florentine designs.
What we really liked? Parents don't need to be present during the lessons - they can actually be touring the city or a museum.
Appropriate Age : 4 - 99

5. City Museum Activities
Several of Florence's principal museums provide excellent programs to involve young visitors in the exploration of color, design, and technique ... as well as secret passageways and ghost stories. Below we list four museums and a link to their calendars, which are frequently updated with events for various age groups. These activities are either free with the cost of the ticket (however, you do need to reserve your spot) or they have a minimal price tag attached.
Palazzo Vecchio
There is so much to see at Palazzo Vecchio that adding one of these activities will help make it engaging and exciting, especially for the young. Don't miss your opportunity to see Florence as it looked during the Roman times or the secret doorways used by the Medici family. Appropriate Age: 4 and up
Palazzo Strozzi
This privately run exhibition hall hosts a wide range of temporary events ranging from contemporary art to medieval collections. They have a full calendar not only for the young and more mature but also for the elderly, Alzheimer patients and disabilities. Appropriate Age: 3 and up
Novecento Museum
This is a surprising museum telling the story of contemporary art in Florence covering many mediums and international artists in the 1900's. Kids will find activities that will help them appreciate the colors, styles, and techniques - all while having fun. Appropriate Age: 4 and up
Museum of Santa Maria Novella
This church, located in front of the train station features fun ways to explore art, history and the beauty hidden behind the multi-colored marble facade. Appropriate Age: 8 and up
6. City "Family Tour" Kits
Another great museum initiative is the “Family Tour”, based on an initiative by leading museums in the city of Florence. It is a project tailored to families looking for a different way to introduce their kids to the towns of Italy: providing them with explorer backpacks and multimedia itineraries (mixing digital experiences with the old-fashioned crayons). The objective is to help families enjoy the culture of the city and the landscape in an engaging manner combining learning with doing.
How many things can you see in Florence? Not only “how many things” but also “how many ways”. The Florence Kits propose a tour of the town involving both looking, playing and story-telling. Appropriate Age : 6 - 13 → Where to find your Florence backpack?
Have you ever dreamed of being Indiana Jones and solving intriguing mysteries? You’re in the right place, you can become an archaeologist for a day and discover past civilizations. Great to know, these kits can are free! Appropriate Age : 6 - 13 → Find this backpack at the Museum of Fiesole
7. Downhill to Florence
Starting Time : 9am Duration : 7 hours Appropriate Age : 10 and up
Check Dates
An Active Holiday Adventure
Sometimes you just need a healthy dose of an outdoor adventure to make it all come together. Kids seem to appreciate being active, eating gelato and being with the family more than they would another medieval palazzo or antique church.
The best solution for adults and kids is if you could find a way to combine the two - then you have a vacation activity made in paradise, like this bike tour. With several exclusive itineraries to choose from, we suggest you have a look at Downhill to Florence which you through great scenery, small towns and lots of choices for a gelato stop.

It has been more than 25 years since I took my first steps in Italy and I still haven’t found a good reason to leave. Between the food, the culture, the history, the art, the landscapes … did I mention the food? I have become a lifelong student. It didn't take long to learn that Italians all have stories that long to be told; stories that paint a picture of how hard work produces character, how life is made of ups and downs and how good it feels to laugh.

The Florence Tour for Kids and Families with Gelato and Pizza was amazing! Our guide, Martina, was wonderful and super engaging with our children varying in ages between 15 and 9. She created a family interactive game for our tour which kept our children's attention while also sharing a lot of wonderful information about the history of Florence. But our favorite part of the tour was stopping for pizza with a local chef.... he could not have been more welcoming to his establishment and our children loved him! From start to finish, this tour was perfect for our family and a highlight of our time in Florence! Read more Written July 13, 2023
- GlobeTrotting776743 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Breathtaking tour of Sorrento and Amalfi! We had the most amazing time in Sorrento and Positano thanks to a private family excursion through Pinocchio Tours during our stop at Naples a week ago. Our wonderful driver, Guido, and lovely guide Martina (who came along last minute, but added so much to our experience) were top notch from pick up to drop off. They took very good care of our kids, ages 4 and 16, making our journey through Sorrento and on to Positano absolutely unforgettable. We were very concerned about time to explore because we had a previous negative experience with our cruise ship leaving part of our family behind, so Guido was very attentive to time and itinerary/route. We could have never gotten to see the sights we did without Pinocchio Tour's private excursion. Thank you all so much! Read more Written June 15, 2023

- P H 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Our Guide Made "Boring" Tour, Great for Kids! We were a group of four adults and three children (ages 11, 11, and 9) and our guide (Martina, I think) made the Uffizi Museum fun for all of us. She rightly paid the most attention to the kids and challenged them with games to keep them engaged. They learned a lot, but so did the adults. I think by going into less detail than an adult tour would, and only emphasizing the highlights, we were all able to enjoy the museum. All of us will remember this tour for the rest of our lives. I highly recommend this tour with Tours for Kids! Read more Written October 5, 2022

We met our guide Giulia by the duomo and realized quickly she was AWESOME! We were lucky to be the only ones on the tour...so she catered to the kids/our interest/needs. Giulia was knowledgeable and kept the kids interested and engaged with a scavenger hunt throughout the city/tour! So fun!!! She had a kids vs. parents scavenger hunt planned, and we had so much fun and learned a lot of really interesting things that we never would have discovered on our own. I can’t say enough about how fun and personable she is. We were fortunate to also have her as our guide for a tour of the Uffizi- she really made our experience in Florence the best part of our entire Italian vacation. Grazie, Rachele! The 16th-century Uffizi Gallery boasts one of the best art collections in the world. You don’t want to miss it regardless of whether you’re traveling in Florence with children or not.

Fontana del porcellino.
Everyone who rubs the nose of this pig fountain is destined to return to Florence, so the legend says!
But there’s a fun game your kids can play with Fontana Del Porcellino. Give them a coin to place in the pig’s mouth and let it fall to the bottom. They need to keep doing it until the coin falls into the grate below and disappears.
Skip-the-Line to see the David Statue at Gallery Della Accademia
Seeing the Statue of David by Michelangelo isn’t just one of the best things to do in Florence with kids, it’s one of the best things to do hands down.
You can find the statue at Gallery Della Accademia toward the north of the city.
It’s a small museum that is mostly stroller-friendly but the line outside definitely isn’t. Booking a ticket with a timeslot is a must as this museum often has one of the longest lines of any Florence attraction. Check the latest rates and availability .

Vivoli Gelato
You cannot book an Italian vacation without expecting to eat your fair share of gelato. One of the best (and oldest) gelaterias in the city is Vivoli Gelato .
If you need another recommendation, Gelateria dei Neri has delicious gelato too.
La Specola Natural History Museum
One of the top things to do in Florence, Italy with kids is to visit science museums.
La Specola Natural History Museum is a wonderful museum to visit with older kids as they have fossilized skeletons and true-to-life anatomical recreations. Definitely not for squeamish kids!
Florentine Gardens
As well as Boboli Gardens, there are so many other green spaces in the city if you know where to look.
There is Giardino delle Rose, Parco Giochi D’Azeglio, and the University of Florence’s Botanical Garden. Many have children’s play areas and have lots of trees that offer shade.
Piscine Le Pavoniere
