10 day europe itinerary: germany, italy, switzerland + austria.

Want to travel to Europe, but only have 10 days? With this itinerary, you will get to see 4 European countries in as little as 10 days! Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Austria are all very close together, making it super easy to see them all.

This was my first trip abroad without my family, so I opted in for a tour with EF College Break .  What was so nice about this tour was that it was all college students, so I made a ton of friends and we did things my age group would enjoy. On top of all that, it was extremely inexpensive for all that we got to see!

If you want to do a tour, I would definitely recommend looking into EF College Break. If you want to explore Europe on your own time, you can still do this itinerary by yourself.

For all the self-guided travelers out there… I have an epic (yes, EPIC) itinerary to France where you will get to see all the highlights. This itinerary is self-guided where you get to see Paris, the French Riviera, Provence, and go champagne tasting in Champagne! You can read my 10 day France itinerary here !

Okay, you ready to read this amazing 10 day Europe Itinerary?!

When to go to Europe?

This is a tricky question that will completely depend on the type of trip you want.

Want to see the alps covered in snow and eat fondue? Winter will be best!

Want to avoid crowds? Early spring and late fall will be best!

Want to enjoy prime weather and loads of events? Summer will be best!

I traveled to Europe in late May and it was absolutely beautiful . The crowds were minimal in comparison to the high seasons of June-August, and the weather was ranging from 60-80 degrees (depending on the country). The crowds in Europe hot-spots (especially Venice) will be unbearably crowded. Before you book during the prime summer months, just take that into consideration!

Tour v. No Tour?

I think it depends on your budget and if you are traveling with someone. I didn’t feel comfortable driving in Europe at 19 years old, so the only other way to see multiple countries would be to take trains or fly, which can add up quick!

I loved this tour group because it was all college age students, so I made friends from all over the world and we did a lot of excursions people my age group would do. Also, this tour company gave us SO much free time so even if the tour doesn’t see everything you want, you still have the time to see it.

EF College Break Tour to Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany

Typically, I prefer to do self-guided travels because I can wake up as early as I want to see sights, mix and match what I want to see, eat when I want, etc. Of course there will be more stress planning your own trip abroad, but I think the benefit outweighs the cost!

What to Pack for Summer in Europe?

I keep a list of all my summer essentials and favorite finds on this guide here . I am constantly updated it after every warm destination – tried, true & tested! Also, I have a list of my 10 travel essentials I can’t live without, you can read those here !

As for specific things to pack for Europe, these are my top 3 must-have’s:

1. Travel Adapter

Yes, I know this is a very generic thing for a trip abroad, but this one is AMAZING. It is an all-in-one adapter that works on every country you will ever travel to. This is especially important with this itinerary because Switzerland doesn’t use the same plug as the rest of Europe! Click here for one that includes all of the USA, Europe, Australia and UK!

2. Curling Iron with dual voltage

True story… I was so confused about adapters and converters that I decided to just not buy a converter lol. When I turned on my blow dryer in this little hotel in Switzerland, I shut down the ENTIRE hotel because it burnt the circuits!! If you don’t want to worry about a confusing converter, I would just buy a dual voltage curling iron / blow dryer.  This will come in handy on any trip you will ever do! Click here for a dual voltage curling iron.

3. Packing Cubes

Guys, this is so important when you are bouncing around between multiple hotels. Packing cubes saved my LIFE when I did my 10 day France trip because I stayed in three different hotels. Here’s a free tip: Pack the clothes you want to wear in each city (AKA hotel), so that way you only need to take out that cube at that hotel. Most hotels in Europe are super tiny, so saving you room will be a total life saver! PLUS, when you are done wearing those dirty clothes, you can stick them back in the packing cube so they don’t touch your clean clothes! Click here for packing cubes!

BONUS: Anytime I travel to abroad, I always get travel insuranc e so I am covered during my trip. Europe is known for reckless driving and lots of protests, so you want to make sure you have insurance in case of an emergency. Confused on what travel insurance is? I have a lengthy guide that will explain it in great detail !

10 Day Europe Itinerary

Hopefully your flight won’t be as long as mine, but usually the entire first day is wasted traveling due to the time change + flight length.

Not being able to sleep on planes makes it feel extra long too. Is anyone else as dorky as me and get too excited to sleep before a vacation?

TIP: Bring Melatonin on your flight to help you sleep! It’s an all-natural vitamin that doesn’t make you feel groggy when you wake up. This also will help you sleep the first few nights you arrive.

Day 2: Arrive in Munich

We arrived at 7am in the morning.. yes. 7am. It was a rough first day because the time zone difference from Las Vegas was a whopping NINE HOURS . The entire day will be spent keeping yourself as busy as possible to fight that jet lag!

Spend your free day in Munich seeing street performers, watching surfing competitions at The Eisbachwelle , strolling through the cities English Garden, and enjoy lunch and German beer at the Hofbrauhaus !

As you can imagine, the Hofbrauhaus is extremely touristy and always busy! It is a HUGE restaurant, but you still might need to wait to be seated. If you do, just spend some time exploring the nearby shops to start your souvenir shopping early 🙂

IMG_7029

End your first day in Germany with a Biergarten dinner at Zum Flaucher . There are SO many beirgartens in Germany that have outdoor seating, twinkly lights, picnic style seating and a relaxed atmosphere. Going to these for dinner was one of my favorite memories in Germany, so I would definitely make it a priority to go to one of them!

By far my favorite day out of the entire trip! This castle is unbelievably breathtaking. The Neuschwanstein ( say that ten times fast ) Castle is located less than 2 hours from Munich in a town called Hohenschwangau ( now say that 20 times fast ). You can either drive if you have a rental car, or there is a train that will take you from Munich to the castle in 2.5 hours. Click here to look at train times and prices! Or if navigating the trains terrifies you, you can sign up for a day trip with a tour company, click here for tour options .

Everything about Hohenschwangau just screams Disneyland. The adorable German Cottages (that people actually live in, oh my gosh!),  glistening blue lake, horse and carriage rides, and a real life sleeping beauty castle nestled up on the mountain. Look at the view of the town from above:

IMG_7046

Seriously though, this castle is the real life inspiration of the Disney movie, Sleeping Beauty. When you either walk or take your horse carriage ride to the top, you can take a tour of the castle and walk along the bridge to the castle viewpoint. From the viewpoint you are hanging on a bridge over a river that looks right at the castle and valley behind it. I have no words to explain how beautiful this place was.

neuschwanstein castle in Germany

Like this photo? Edit like me using my one-click Lightroom Presets !

After your castle tour , rent a paddle boat and enjoy the rest of the day on the lake! You can rent these for fairly inexpensive on the lake, no reservation needed. If you’re going with your significant other, grab picnic items from a local store and have lunch on your private boat. Or if you don’t have a significant other, a bff date will do just fine!

If you are planning a day trip from Munich like my tour did and more info, be sure to check out my friends guide on How to Visit Neuschwanstein Castle from Munich!

IMG_7042

If you’re not too jet-lagged, end your night going out to German clubs – which if your from Las Vegas like me, will find hilarious! They’re all like little disco bars where everyone is dancing the night away to old American music. Here are the tops clubs in Munich:

  • Harry Klein

I wish I could have spent more days in Germany because I was blown away by how beautiful it was! I loved the culture, food, greenery, and the amount of hidden gems! If you want to extend your Germany stay, I would recommend checking out this guide: Things to do in Cologne Germany!

Day 4: Drive to Venice

There’s no sugar-coating that the drive from Munich to Venice is long and brutal. But, the scenery is out of this world and will make the 6 hour drive go by a lot faster! If you are not driving, there are direct trains that will take you from Munich to Venice at around 7 hours. Click here to search for train times!

If you are driving to Venice, that perfect pit-stop is Salzburg, Austria. You can see this colorful town filled with cobblestone streets, that is located along a river in the middle of the Austrian Alps! There are endless restaurants to choose from, so I would recommend walking around until you find somewhere that looks welcoming 🙂

IMG_7043

We stayed in a small beach town outside of the actual island of Venice. I would highly recommend this because you get away from the touristy side of Venice to experience local restaurants and beaches. Doing this will make you feel like you are staying in an authentic Italian town with few tourists!

End your night indulging in pasta and pizza from the smallest hole in the wall you can find! And don’t forget about Italian gelato on the beach for dessert, because you’re in Italy! You’ve GOT TO have gelato everyday!

Pasta in Venice, Italy

Day 5: Venice

The city that’s on everyone’s bucket list, Venice! I’ve dreamed about riding a gondola down the grand canal since, well, forever. Once you take the brief ferry ride to Venice island, you’ll take a tour of Saint Mark’s Basilica and the Murano Glass Museum before getting lost in the winding streets and canals of the city.

If you want to see more during your time in Venice, here are some recommendations:

  • Sign up for a food tour
  • See the colorful streets of Burano
  • Take a private gondola ride through the smaller canals
  • Have lunch on the Grand Canal at De Pesis!
  • Take a day trip to Prosecco Hills for wine tasting

I spent the day just wandering the streets of Venice with no plan and it was amazing! I carelessly roamed the streets, ate WAY too much food, took a gondola ride (or two), got gelato from every shop I saw, & got too many souvenirs!

TIP: Dress appropriately for the churches or else you’ll be forced to buy paper ponchos and skirts to wear inside. You need to cover your shoulders and wear and appropriate length bottom to enter.

riding on a gondola in Venice, Italy

Day 6: Drive to Switzerland

Another long drive, but it doesn’t count as a drive when you are winding through the Swiss Alps. The drive from Venice to Lucerne is a little over 5 hours and the train is roughly 6.5 hours.

Swiss Alps

The good thing about driving is there are so many towns you can stop in to break up the drive and see more sights! I would recommend stopping in either Verona or Milan (or both!) before heading to Switzerland.

Verona is a small, quaint town that is home to Romeo & Juliette’s famous balcony! While you are there, stop at a farmers market or grab some street food to enjoy under their balcony.

Romeo and Juliette's Balcony in Verona, Italy

From Verona to Lucerne, it will be about 4 1/2 hours of pure beauty! You will wind up the mountains passing through tunnels carved into mountains. After every tunnel pass, the scenery will be completely different and even more beautiful.

Check into your hotel and head into town for some dinner. We spent an actual hour hunting down fondue for dinner, apparently fondue isn’t a thing in the summer!? People were making fun of us but who cares! WERE TOURISTS AND WERE PROUD! We eventually found a fondue spot and it was amazing to say the least.

Fondue in Lucerne, Switzerland

Day 7: Switzerland

Today you’ll be getting a little bit of everything. From adventure to beautiful scenery! Take the ferry over lake Lucerne to the gondola entrance for Mt. Pilatus . You’ll take the gondola up 7,000 ft (2132 meters) to get expansive views of the Swiss alps and Lake Lucerne.

Switzerland Gondola to Mt Pilatus

I know the weather is unpredictable, but really try to do this on a clear day so you can get unobstructed views from the top! Once you are up there, there will be walking and hiking trails, a souvenir shop and food stands for you to grab a bight to eat.

On the way down comes the fun part… the steepest railroad in the world has a seat with your name on it. I promise it doesn’t go too fast and doesn’t feel too old. You can also take the gondola down if the train terrifies you, but traveling is all about pushing you out of your comfort zone 🙂

Switzerland Gondola to Mt Pilatus

TIP: Don’t wear sandals to Mt. Pilatus because at the halfway point, there’s a type of “adventure park” with an alpine slide down the mountain, zip line and rope park. They are very strict at the zip line/rope park and will not let you on if you don’t have closed toe shoes!

Spend the afternoon hunting down some Swiss Chocolate for your loved ones back home, which is also very hard to find. I learned that everything I thought was stereotypical to Switzerland was just that, a stereotype.

Another day of driving and today’s pit stop will be the charming German village, Heidelberg. Are you all castled-out yet? Of course not! You’ll get to visit another older castle that is home to the world’s largest wine barrel!

The drive & train from Lucerne to Frankfurt is around 4 hours, but if you make a pit stop in Heidelberg for lunch, you will drive 3 hours and then 1 hour!

Castle in Heidelberg, Germany

Once you arrive in Frankfurt you’ll soon see that it is a BIG city with lots of nightlife! Spend your night going out the local bars and enjoy one of your last nights in Europe.

Day 9: Frankfurt

We had a free day before our farewell dinner home, so some fun things to do in Frankfurt would be the Museumsufer (a cluster of 12 museums), Frankfurt Cathedral , Romerburg (a square with medieval homes), Palmengarten , and getting some last minute souvenirs!

Romerburg Square, Frankfurt

Day 10: Fly Home

I can never sleep on planes mostly because I’m always too excited for the destination. I slept the entire 12 hour flight home, so that’s saying something about how “excited” I was to be going home!

Until next time Europe!

Before you go…. Want some more guides on Europe? I think you will love these!

  • German food is hearty and substantial. Among the specialties are dumpling stews, sauerkraut, sausages, smoked cheeses, and dark breads. Bavaria produces some of the world’s purest beers, and white German wines are exceptionally good.
  • Austria is known for its savory Wiener schnitzel and fresh wild trout, carp, and crayfish. Save room for dessert—especially the strudels of fruit and nuts and elegant chocolate cakes, such as the world-famous Sachertorte.
  • Northern Italy is known for flavorful meats and pastries.
  • For more authentic meals, try local trattorias, small restaurants set away from the main piazzas. A typical Italian meal includes wines and the occasional beer, followed by a few sips of after-dinner drinks like grappa or limoncello.
  • All destinations visited on this tour operate on the European standard 220-240 volts and use Types C, E, or F plugs with two small, round pins. You may also use a Type J plug with three small pins in Switzerland and a Type L plug with three small pins in Italy.

14 Days Italy-Switzerland-Germany

We're thinking of visiting Italy, Switzerland, and Germany in September. Our plan is to start in Rome and then travel north into Switzerland and then finally arriving in Munich for the Oktoberfest (my husband's bucket list). Our concerns are: 1. Are we biting off too much for our first trip to Europe? 2. How much of an issue will language be? Neither of us speak Italian or German. 3. Should we rent a car for part of the journey or go by train primarily. We're worried there's a lot we'll miss. Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

1) Are we biting off too much for our first trip to Europe?

No, depending on how much time you have. The golden rule is "no one night stands", absolute minimum 2 nights in each location (that gives you a full day), better 3 nights as a minimum.

2) How much of an issue will language be? Neither of us speak Italian or German.

Not much, as long as you don't expect everybody to speak English. Europe is used to people all speaking different languages. They live with it, signs are pictures, people don't expect you to speak their language. They do expect you to speak clearly in simple phrases and no long words. Most people learn English in school. Instead of forgetting it, they use it once it twice a year when they travel. A German speaking to an Italian would probably do it in bad school English, but they would understand each other.

3) Should we rent a car for part of the journey or go by train primarily. We're worried there's a lot we'll miss.

Cars no way. Lots of reasons: a) Cars don't go with cities. City centres in Europe are designed for pedestrians, not cars. You cannot stop where and when you want. Parking is limited and you usually have to pay for it. b) You need to learn a new set of traffic laws (one set of each country). If your country does not use "Vienna Convention" signs, you need to learn those. c) Car travel is expensive, fuel + tolls + parking. d) Renting in one country and returning the car in a different one is expensive. Somebody (paid employee) has to drive that Italian-registered car back from Germany.

What I would recommend:

Thin this down or add to it depending on budget and time available. 3-4 nights per location:

  • 2nd Italian city, either Florence or Venice, or even both
  • Possibly add 2 nights in Luzern.
  • Possible add-ons after Munich: Vienna or Prague.

This is all easy by train. Start your train education by reading the "Man in Seat 61" website, here: https://www.seat61.com/Europe-train-travel.htm

How many nights do you have in Europe, not counting the night on the train? Your arrival day will be a partial one by the time you get settled into your hotel, and some people (I am one) are so befuddled from sleep-deprivation and jetlag that they accomplish nothing that day beyond staying awake and vertical. Maybe you will be luckier, but it's not a good idea to pre-pay for anything on your arrival day. Your departure day will be consumed with packing, having breakfast, checking out of the hotel, and getting to the airport 3 hours before scheduled departure. What this means is that if you have 13 nights in Europe, that's only 12 days and--if you're fortunate--some hours on the arrival day.

If that's the time you have, it's enough for Rome, a bit of Switzerland and Munich. I'd be very hesitant to add a fourth stop, because every time you change hotels, you lose time; a full day becomes a partial day, a "travel day". You can figure that will cost you at least half a day of sightseeing time, but it may be longer, depending on how long you're on a train and/or a bus.

In this case, your starting and ending points are already about 9 hours apart by train if you make no stops at all. The direct train route goes through such places as Florence (usually), Bologna, Verona, Bolzano and Innsbruck. (Obviously, flying should be considered if you weren't planning to see Switzerland along the way.) But you have probably noticed that none of those places is in Switzerland. Going to Switzerland rather than the Austrian Alps will mean taking a different, somewhat longer, route. How much additional train time that requires will depend on where you choose to stay in Switzerland. I think setting foot anywhere in Switzerland will likely cost you at least 3 hours extra on trains, but if you want to go up in the Berner Oberland or something like that, it will take longer.

You do have time for Switzerland; my point is that I don't know that you have time to add a second stop in Italy. And as for renting a car, that will be a lot slower than the Freccia trains between Rome and the Swiss border, and you don't really have much time to stop along the way if you want to fully enjoy Rome, Switzerland and Munich. Perhaps you could cut Munich to 3 nights (that would be just 2 days) and have a one-night stop somewhere along your rail journey north., but that would be giving Munich fairly short shrift if you plan to spend much time on Oktoberfest activities.

You can explore the train routes and travel times easily on the Deutsche Bahn website , but to find fares you'll need to look elsewhere. Other sources (the rail companies) will probably save a bit of money when it comes time to buy the tickets, but for research at this point, you can use trainline.com. Note what happens when you change the travel date from today or tomorrow to January or February. A lot of money can be saved if you get your itinerary pinned down way in advance and buy tickets shortly after they go on sale for your dates. However, the cheapest tickets are usually non-refundable and non-changeable, so you have to balance that risk against the possible savings.

Trains in Switzerland are expensive per mile; the engineering challenges are great. If you ultimately decide to do a good bit of traveling around Switzerland, it's possible that the half-fare card or some sort of pass might pay off for you, but that's not a decision you need to make anytime soon.

I know from earlier threads here that Munich hotels book up way in advance for the period of the Oktoberfest, and the rates climb and climb some more. I suggest booking something refundable as soon as you can if you know what date you'll be flying home from Munich. You could even do two bookings, one for 3 nights and one for 4 nights, then cancel the one you don't need as soon as you get your timing firmed up.

Too much? - maybe, only you know how fast you can/want to travel/what you want to see. Langauge? - No problem. Car? - No, for the reasons already given.

Mostly I love trains in Europe, but one suggestion I would add is that Zurich to Munich is less than an hour flight, compared to a long train trip (I have done it, once).

Maybe Rome (nights 1, 2, 3) to Florence (nights 4, 5, 6), Florence to Lugano Switzerland (near Como but in Switzerland) (night 7, 8), Lugano to Lucerne on the Panorama Express over the old Gotthard Pass twisty rail route and a steamer on the Lake off Lucerne (One heck of a scenic travel day) (night 9), Lucerne to Zurich (night 10). Zurich to Munich flight, Munich (nights 11, 12, 13) - Oktoberfest - Home.

In Apr, RSE has a new IT guidebook coming out. If you decide to go to Venice only, his Venice guide is available now. His CH book will be available in May. His Pocket Munich & Salzburg book won’t be updated until after you return, so you may want to purchase it now. You can download electronic versions from his app. The best of IT is Venice, Cinque Terre, Florence, Siena and Rome. You can fly nonstop from Chicago, New York and Philadelphia to Venice ( www.Skyscanner.com ). You can fly nonstop from New York, Miami and San Francisco to Milan then take a 3h train to Monterosso (Cinque Terre) or Venice ( www.bahn.com ).. You can fly nonstop from Boston, Oakland, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Washington DC, Detroit, Charlotte, Atlanta, Dallas and Philadelphia to Rome. From Rome you can take a 2h train to Florence and sleep there and visit Siena as a day trip that requires a 1h bus ride. The best of CH is Gimmelwald and the Berner Oberland plus Bern. It’s best to take a train to Bern then a train to Gimmelwald to see the Berner Oberland that requires three transfers taking 2h. Trains from Florence to Bern takes 5.5h. From Venice to Bern 6h. Monterosso and Rome 6.5h. To get from Bern to Munich you must transfer once taking 5h. In Munich consider taking a 15m train to Dachau for a half day. You should also visit Salzburg for a day that is 2h by train. You can fly nonstop from Munich to Chicago, New York Washington DC, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Denver, Detroit, Houston and Seattle.

  • Are we biting off too much for our first trip to Europe? No - as others have stated, time, money, pace and what you want to see and do are all relevant. I would say that we find Italy to be a very different vibe from Germany / Switzerland (Austria is a good add to these two) Also consider where/when/if you will return - as it will impact your plan, places to skip and how long to stay. As others, have mentioned - try to eliminate "one night" stops - we find 3 or 4 nights best in the same base city has worked well.
  • How much of an issue will language be? Neither of us speak Italian or German. Not likely - We've travelled to both countries and have had little issue. Most Europeans speak at least some English. Especially true in tourist areas and larger cities. If you go off the beaten bath, you may find pointing, symbols, etc helpful - and use translate features on your smartphone as needed.
  • Should we rent a car for part of the journey or go by train primarily. We're worried there's a lot we'll miss. Toss up - We've rented cars in both Germany and Italy, but have also used trains extensively. Again, where you go, what you want to see will make the difference. Cities, no need - but driving out of Rome north into Tuscany could be a real treat if you are making stops along the way. The Tuscan hills in early fall will be beautiful, try to slow down a little to experience "la dolce vita" and a second glass of wine. Perhaps drop the car off outside Florence (driving in Florence is very limited.) I would definitely take the train in the Alps to sit-back and enjoy the ride (consider the Bernina Express is stopping near Milan or Como). The trains themselves can be a great experience for first time travelers.

A word on Oktobefest, look into tent reservations early, consider week days over weekends due to crowds, and confirm your transportation (don't drive) back to your hotel after a couple of big beers!

Hoping you have a great trip

One more thought... Not sure if you're a city, suburban or country couple but starting in Rome can be overwhelming for some - especially first time travelers . Rick even references "bella chaos" in his shows. We've found Germany very easy for Americans, perhaps consider working north to south.

Oktoberfest 2020 in Munich -- September 19 to October 4. People are booking / have booked rooms already. NO car for Munich ! German public transportation is very efficient.

First river cruise wont be our last! So relaxing with exquisite dining and accommodations on board. Definitely an older crowd, but you get to know almost everyone on board by the end of the tour and most are very pleasant and having as much fun as we did! So nice compared to big boat cruising; no pressure to see and do all the offerings. many included excursions were nice, with easy low effort walking offered. Transfers were perfect.

Magnificent Four

It is reasonably priced. The meals included and the hotels were not the greatest but i signed up for the sights to see and it wasn’t disappointing overall. Maybe there was a little too much sights that we didn’t have enough time to enjoy each stop but overall was worth it. The reason i skipped review of tour guide in the options because we had 4 tour guides (shout outs to 2 Juans, Julian, and Veronica) and they all did good. There were 3 local guides - the guide in Berlin and Paris did a fantastic job, while the one in Prague could do better (maybe more practice and she’ll get there eventually). One thing that could be improved on is communication- there are couple of times that we didn’t receive information changes as to meeting time, there was no orientation, and there was no information posted on the hotel front desk. It may not be the tour director’s fault because at times they might be receiving information late as well. There is a change of tour director and group at every destination which is good and bad depending on what type of group you started with. If you started with a fun group and a guide, unfortunately the guide changes in the next destination and the fun group may be split due to large number or because of different destinations. Also, i think there are certain stops that was included in the itinerary but we were not able to go due to weather or if we did, the day wasn’t suited. There should be other options to replace these. Like we stopped at some place in Berlin but it was a Sunday and the majority of shops and restaurants were closed. The same happened in Grindelwald. The weather wasn’t really cooperating and there was a place where we were supposed to go but was closed due to weather condition. So we just went, ate a decent lunch (included in the tour) after freezing outside, then rode the train back down and onto the bus. The consolation price is the astonishing mountain view along the way. After almost 10 hours of going to the mountain most of it spent on the bus, no one was even interested to see Lucerne anymore! The transfer from Switzerland to Paris was a very long ride! From 7:30am to 9pm. There was a couple of hours stop at Bern on the way and it was a pretty little city. I think we could have just skipped Zurich and went to Bern directly. To sum up- would i take this tour again? Yes , I would. I’d like to try it at a different season (maybe Spring). And I would also recommend it to a friend who wants to see a lot of places in Europe at a reasonable price.

From Prague to Zurich Tour

From Prague to Zurich

Following are the things that should be included in your future offerings. - Tours should include some thrilling activities such as speed boat riding, 3D/VR experience, skydiving or other similar activities as an add-on options wherever available in the countries included in the package. This is because mere sightseeing and visit of cultural, religious and traditional places will add little to fun and thrill. - Hotels is the stay should be advised to ensure provision of basis necessities such as sleepers for washrooms, tooth paste. Hotels should also provide at least one or two Halal dishes to the people from Muslim countries.

The Wi-Fi didn’t work as expected and it caused quite an inconvenience. The excursion plan is not as clear either. Overall it’s still a good tour but I think my last Danube river with Avalon is better than this rhino river cruise.

CONTEXT: I booked last minute due to another tour from a different company cancelling, and this tour was so receptive to my concerns with fantastic patience and communication in accomodating my booking last minute. Thank you Vitali!! This tour is fantastic. I loved the walking tours as whilst the cities are big it made me feel like I wasn’t missing out on anything. The schedule was packed and the tour guide was passionate about switzerland and gave a great run down of the history behind major regions and landmarks. Well well organised also. Thank you Alex! If I had to pick one suggestion, the only thing I would have liked was more allocated time for lunch/snack breaks (due to how busy our schedules were, most days I ate “lunch” at 4pm or later). This was no rule enforced by the guide, just an afterthought at the end of the day starting to wilt. In saying this, I am appreciative we were able to see so much; I am in my twenties and I’m sure this would be taken into greater consideration for the older generations booking the tour. I would definitely recommend this tour to friends.

Impressed by the work done to get us on board at a very late date. The trip itself was the usual wonderful Scenic Cruise. The two tour guides, Franz and Alec were outstanding and all the personnel on The Opal made the trip wonderful. The Hotels in Switzerland were all top notch. Our tours visiting Castles and Towns were as good as we remembered others from earlier tours. Our admiration and respect for Scenic remains very strong.

What people love about Germany And Switzerland Tours

It was a great cruise. The food was amazing, the crew was really helpful, and the tours and tour guides were great. The only thing to imporve on if the WiFi which only worked half the time.
brilliant. The tour spent the perfect amount of time in each location, the tour guides - shout-out to both Gabby and Linus! - were so brilliantly customer focused, informative, patient, professional. They removed any hiccups and made the trip easy to just enjoy.
The hotels that we stayed in are nice. We had two guides throughout the 6 day tour.

Switzerland and Italy are two of Europe’s most visited countries. They attract around 80 million tourists a year, but this isn't all just down to good marketing. These countries are popular for all the right reasons – impressive cuisine, interesting history, beautiful scenery, and easy accessibility. Get ready to discover all of it!

The Itinerary

italy-switzerland-itin-tripplanner

This itinerary takes you to the following destinations in Italy and Switzerland:

  • Day 1:  Zurich, Switzerland
  • Days 1 – 2:  Lucerne, Switzerland
  • Days 2 – 4:  GoldenPass and Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
  • Days 5 – 6:  Zermatt, Switzerland
  • Days 7 – 8:  Glacier Express and St Moritz, Switzerland
  • Days 9 – 10:  Bernina Express and Milan, Italy
  • Days 11 – 12:  Florence, Italy
  • Days 13 – 14:  Rome, Italy

A Global Pass will take you to all these places (and more if you want to!). Are you ready?

Day 1: Zurich, Switzerland

Zurich is home to Switzerland’s busiest airport, which makes it a good starting point for a rail journey between Switzerland and Italy. Zurich may primarily be a transport, banking, and finance hub, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy the views and atmosphere before continuing south.

Don’t miss:  If you’re only in town for a few hours, then walk the quaint lanes of the Old Town and take in the beautiful scenes along the waterfront.

switzerland-zurich-swans-city-view

Days 1 - 2: Lucerne, Switzerland

Lucerne may have all the trappings of a large Swiss city, but there’s still a small-town charm to this beautiful destination that makes it incredibly appealing. Like Zurich, this means that food and accommodation aren’t cheap. But you'll realize why when you look at this impressive lakeside setting.

Don’t miss:  A walk along the city walls and up the clock towers offers the best views of the city and lake and is also free!

How to get there by train:  There are regular trains between Zurich and Lucerne that take approximately 50 minutes.

switzerland-lucerne-at-twilight

Days 2 - 4: GoldenPass and Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland

Hop aboard the GoldenPass Line and prepare for the ride of your life. Interlaken may be one of the more popular cities in Switzerland, but the true magic lies just up the tracks. A lifetime may not be enough for this Swiss valley, but give yourself at least two full days. You'll have enough time to take in some hikes, a trip up to the Jungfraujoch, a stomach-churning Alpine paraglide, or a ferry cruise along Lakes Thun and Brienz.

Don’t miss:  If budget allows, then ride up to the Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn. If your finances are strained, then head for the mountains on foot. Altitude always wins, but a walk to Wengen, Müren, or even further up the valley floor is really rewarding.

How to get there by train:  There are regular trains between Lucerne and Interlaken, including those on the panoramic GoldenPass carriages. Split the journey in two parts and alight at Interlaken station. From there, a small private train connects you to Lauterbrunnen – just show your Eurail Pass for a discount.

switzerland-lauterbrunnen-waterfall

Days 5 - 6: Zermatt, Switzerland

The GoldenPass Line continues down towards the exquisite Lake Geneva. It's an incredible destination if you have some additional days to spare. But if you're short on time, then there are easy train connections from Interlaken to the famous town of Zermatt, in the shadow of the Matterhorn.

Don’t miss:  Glacier Paradise in Zermatt might be costly, but it’s as impressive as the name suggests. If it’s out of your budget, there are dozens of hikes that can dish up magnificent views of the Matterhorn for free.

How to get there by train:  Regular trains between the two cities take approximately two hours, and the train between Visp and Zermatt is included in your Eurail Pass.

switzerland-zermatt-village-mountains

Days 7 - 8: St Moritz, Switzerland

St. Moritz is a beautiful city. It just oozes glitz and glamour all year round. To get there, a ride on the Glacier Express is an experience you won’t forget. The Eurail Pass completely covers this popular route! You’ll need to pay a reservation fee to secure a seat, but consider this a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Don’t miss:  A sunrise walk or jog around Lake St. Moritz before your train departs is a great experience – and it won’t cost you a cent.

How to get there by train:  The Glacier Express runs between Zermatt and St. Moritz every day. Check the  website  for the latest timetable.

switzerland-lake-moritz-view

Days 9 - 10: Bernina Express and Milan, Italy

Hitch a ride out of Switzerland in the most dramatic way possible – aboard the Bernina Express. This route, recognized by UNESCO, is easily one of the most scenic in Europe. It connects you directly to the Italian town of Tirano in just a few hours, and you can then continue on to the design and fashion capital of Milan.

Don’t miss:  It would be difficult, and a mistake, to miss Milan’s Duomo. This monumental Gothic cathedral is the architectural symbol of this iconic city.

How to get there by train:  Several regional trains leave from St. Moritz to Tirano, and daily departures of the panoramic Bernina Express. Both offer the same views, though the Express requires a seat reservation. There are also hourly trains from Tirano to Milan.

italy-milan-sunrise-duomo

Days 11 - 12: Florence, Italy

Florence attracts visitors the world over for its food, coffee, architecture, and art. It’s the birthplace of the Renaissance. It’s also a city that’s earned top spots on many bucket lists and in many hearts.

Don’t miss:  Climb to the top of Florence’s Duomo. Purchase a combination ticket and experience the views from both the dome and the bell tower.

How to get there by train:  There are regular high-speed trains between Milan and Florence.

italy-florence-panorama

Days 13 - 14: Rome, Italy

To wrap up Switzerland and Italy in two weeks, go to the Italian capital of Rome. It’s a city so famous that you’ll feel as if you already know it, but there’s something profoundly moving about walking her streets and soaking up the history. A day isn't enough to take it all in, so allocate as much time as possible here before jetting out. Rome's international airport has good connections to many international destinations.

Don’t miss:  Simply walking the streets and taking in the sights in and around the Colosseum and Roman Forum.

How to get there by train:  Regular high-speed trains between Florence and Rome make it an easy connection.

Beer, food, and fun at Oktoberfest

Map for the Germany, Italy & Switzerland: Oktoberfest tour

Board your overnight flight, bound for Italy. Get ready to eat spaghetti on penne on linguine on fettuccine on gnocchi on ravioli on chocolate gelato (not literally, but maybe literally).

Welcome to Venice, the renowned former naval power of Italy. Grab your walking shoes, a good map (like a *really* good map) and hit the narrow, winding, organized, yet maddeningly confusing streets. The one-of-a-kind canals have to be seen to be appreciated. Watch the gondolas, browse the shops and eat the gelato until you can't eat anymore. Then eat more.

In the evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner of local cuisine and drinks with fellow travelers at an authentic local spot. Afterwards, you’re free to take the party elsewhere!

Today's highlights:

  • Meet an EF representative at the airport.
  • Transfer to your accommodations and check in.
  • Receive the latest schedule from your Tour Director.
  • Get oriented to the city with an introductory walk with your Tour Director.

Get ready to see Venice through the eyes of a local Italian. Your guide will show you canals, an extraordinary basilica, and a staircase shaped like a snail. Have you had enough pasta yet? No. The answer is no. Eat more pasta.

  • Follow the winding Grand Canal through the heart of Venice.
  • Play Marco Polo from across the Rialto Bridge, the oldest bridge in the city that connects San Marco and San Polo.
  • See several historic churches and amble through picture-perfect piazzas.
  • Take a water taxi back to the island, and discover what Venice has to offer once the sun goes down.

Free time suggestions

300 Years Old: Opened in 1720, Caffè Florian is the oldest café in the world. And while the venue may be old, their beliefs have always been ahead of their time. They were the only café to serve women during the 18th century. Nicely done, Florian. Jazz it Up: Looking for an intimate, authentic music experience? Venice Jazz Club hosts talented, local musicians in a low-lit, artsy atmosphere. Grab dinner, drinks, and some smooth, sexy jazz at a club where you’ll feel as though you’ve stumbled upon a magical, hidden gem. That’s because you have.

You’re off to Salzburg! This city is known for Mozart, The Sound of Music, and a big ‘ol fortress that sits high above. On your way, stop in Innsbruck, Austria, and gape at the colorful buildings juxtaposed with the jagged mountains that tower over the city below.

Today's Highlights:

  • Travel by bus from Venice to Salzburg, with a quick stop in Innsbruck.
  • Take in the fresh alpine air and mountain town hospitality Innsbruck has to offer.
  • Arrive in Salzburg and stretch your legs along the meandering Salzach River.
  • Give a salute to Hohensalzburg Castle, a must-see medieval fortress; there will be plenty of time to play knight tomorrow.

A full day in Salzburg, and so much to look at. Castles and music, and restaurants for chitchat. These are a few of my favorite things. Now go back, and read it the way Julie Andrews would want you to read it.

  • Harness your inner Ron Weasley as you move giant chess pieces around in Kapitelplatz (Chapter Square).
  • Dip your head into the fountain at Resedenzplatz Square to find out if it's a fountain of youth. Never hurts to check, right?
  • Head to the Alter Markt, but not too fast, or you may miss Salzburg's smallest house, barely over 4 feet wide.

Medieval Times: Hohensalzburg Castle, which stands high on a cliff, is Central Europe’s biggest fully preserved castle and one of Salzburg’s finest attractions. It’s enormous, beautiful inside and out, and packed with history that dates back to the 11th century. Hike up or take the funicular, and immerse yourself in pure castleness. Compose Yourself: Salzburg is the birthplace of one of history’s most influential classical composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Visit the Mozart Residence and discover what made this guy the Elvis Presley of his time (and beyond).

Note: This excursion is seasonal and only runs from mid-May through mid-October. Availability is subject to your tour’s departure date and weather that day. Remember how much you loved the playground? Today will be like that, except the slide is nearly a mile and a half long and comes with magnificent panoramic views of the Alps.

Make your way to Munich where you’ll get an in-depth tour of the city. Not just an awesome movie starring Eric Bana, Munich is a Germany’s third biggest city and a major center of art, culture and innovation.

  • Walk through Munich and check out some top sights with a local guide.
  • Wander through Marienplatz, Munich’s central square and transportation hub.
  • Enjoy a pint (or three) at Viktualienmarkt, an extensive farmer’s market and beer garden (good warm up for tomorrow).
  • Take a trip to one of Munich’s famous beer halls.

BMW FTW: Stop at the BMW Museum for a look into BMW's past. See iconic cars, motorcycles, and other modes of transportation. The building itself is as cool as the stuff inside. Smell the Hops: Roam the English Garden. As you walk the 900-acre greenway (the first of its kind) grab a drink and sit in the second-largest beer garden in Munich.

Pull out your lederhosen and get ready for one of Europe’s biggest parties. Join thousands of people from all over the world to celebrate Munich’s Oktoberfest.

  • Grab your seat at one of Oktoberfest's best tents.
  • Take part in 500-year-old traditions with your group and others from all around the globe.
  • Listen (and dance) to the beautiful German Oompah music (not to be confused with the foreboding music of the Oompa Loompas).
  • Drink beers bigger than your face and eat pretzels the size of dinner plates.

All aboard for a scenic bus ride through the European countryside! Watch as rolling hills give way to majestic, snow-capped Alps. You're headed to Switzerland. On the way, make a photo stop outside Neuschwanstein Castle (AKA Sleeping Beauty’s Castle).

  • Jump on the bus to Switzerland.
  • Visit Neuschwanstein Castle and snap some epic photos.
  • Grab lunch, breathe in the fresh German countryside air, and pretend this castle is yours (everything’s for sale, right?).

Today you’ll experience why people are flocking to Switzerland (and it’s not just for the chocolate and cheese). Walk the streets of historic Lucerne, and marvel at the snow-capped Swiss Alps in the distance.

Farewell Dinner Share some last laughs (and maybe shed a few tears) at an included farewell dinner with the group.

  • Walk the narrow streets and take in the incredible mountain scenery with your Tour Director.
  • See the one-of-a-kind Löwendenkmal, a surprisingly impressive and massive rock carving of a dying lion, carved to commemorate the Swiss Guards who were killed during the French Revolution.
  • Walk across the Kapellbrücke—this mural-lined covered bridge was originally built back in medieval times.
  • Wander the maze-like, cobblestone streets of Old Town Lucerne.

Trip up the Swiss Alps (extra cost)

Take an amazing trip to the top of a mountain in the Swiss Alps and soak in the incredible panoramic views. Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

Auf Wiedersehen, Freunde! Translation: Goodbye, friends. Your next destination awaits—home. Before you head to the airport, enjoy your last few moments together. Take one more group photo. Grab that final drink. (Fine, maybe a couple of drinks.) But this isn’t goodbye. It’s “See you later.” The only question is, where?

SWITZERLAND AND ITALY ITINERARY – PLACES TO SEE + TIPS

ITINERARY FOR SWITZERLAND AND ITALY IN 10 DAYS

Table of Contents

Are you looking for the perfect Switzerland and Italy itinerary ? Look no further, as this post is about an amazing trip that combines some of Switzerland’s most beautiful locations with one of Italy’s most idyllic regions.

As a self-proclaimed Switzerland addict, I love to talk about my favorite country. But do you know what? Italy is my second favorite country, so today I can tell you about my favorite travel destinations. This is also exciting for me!

And there are a lot of things to see and do in both countries – but with only ten days (or a bit less or more) it is impossible to see all the top places in these countries. But with this Italy and Switzerland itinerary, you get to explore some of the extraordinarily stunning places.

Locarno, Valle Verzasca , St.Moritz, the Mortaratsch Glacier, Milan, and Lake Como – these are some of the incredible places you will see if you follow this itinerary. But this post is also important travel tips – e.g. how to get around, where to stay, and more.

FAQ: SWITZERLAND AND ITALY ITINERARY

So whether you want to explore these two places in 5, 7, or 10 days – this Switzerland and Italy itinerary is the perfect way to explore Switzerland’s alpine beauty and relax in an Italian paradise. Get ready for a trip of a lifetime!

Here are some important FAQs and answers.

HOW TO GET AROUND IN SWITZERLAND – PUBLIC TRANSPORT & CAR

🚆 PUBLIC TRANSPORT

One of the best ways to get around Switzerland is by using its efficient public transportation system. It is reliable, punctual, clean, and gets you everywhere!

The Swiss Travel Pass is a great way to travel conveniently and cost-effectively, as it allows you unlimited access to trains, buses, boats, and trams. You can also use it for discounted fares or free admission at many museums.

Bernina Express with Arzo Travels Brusio

TIP:   SWISS TRAVEL PASS

The Swiss Travel Pass is a pass you can get in Switzerland that allows you to use buses, trains, and boats without extra costs. Even some mountain excursions are included (like Mount Rigi), and for most others, you get a 50% discount. The Swiss Travel Pass also covers most museums and entrances to castles .

Yes, the Swiss Travel Pass is quite expensive but it will pay off. There are passes for 3, 4, 6, 8, or 15 days available. I suggest, getting the pass for this itinerary, if you use public transportation.

🚘 ROAD TRIP

Though I love road tripping Switzerland , I do not necessarily recommend renting a car for this trip, just because Swiss public transport is so great. Also, because of the destinations I recommend here, you should know that driving in these parts can be more stressful as (mountain) roads can be narrow and windy and it might not be the best for inexperienced drivers.

However, I cannot deny that driving in Switzerland has quite some benefits – including flexibility and if you travel with a couple of people, it might be even cheaper.

In case, you decide to rent a car, I suggest this site to find the best prices. I normally use my own car whenever I drive in Austria or Switzerland. I have used this site to find a rental car for other destinations, though (e.g. Albania ).

If you want to use the car in both countries, make sure you are allowed to do so.

➡️ Find the best deals for rental cars here.

HOW TO GET AROUND IN ITALY – PUBLIC TRANSPORT & CAR

In Italy, public transport is also efficient and easy to use . You can take the train or bus to most places you’d like to visit. Around Lake Como, buses and boats are your best bet to get around. To travel between cities – like Como to Milan – trains are the most effective and fastest way.

TIP: If you buy a paper ticket, remember to validate your ticket BEFORE you get on a train, at the machines in the underground tunnels, or on the tracks. You must do this before riding, otherwise, the ticket inspector may fine you.

I do not necessarily see the need to rent a car in Italy, though it gives you more flexibility and freedom. Hiring a car can be a great option if flexibility is very important to you. However, driving in Italy is not for the fainthearted. Streets can be busy and drivers tend to be reckless. Also, petrol prices are quite high as are highway tolls.

➡️ Find the best deals for rental cars here if you want to rent a car.

HOW TO GET FROM SWITZERLAND TO ITALY

If you’re planning on doing a Switzerland and Italy itinerary, getting between these two countries is easy.

Taking the “ Bernina Express ” from Milan to Chur includes a border crossing near Tirano – that should go smoothly. You might get asked for your IDs and though I have crossed the border several times this way, I never had any border controls.

If you plan to get back from Locarno to Milan, all you need to do is take the train from Locarno to Como Nord Station in Italy. The journey takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes, and trains run up to 10 times per day.

If you want to travel by car between Switzerland and Italy, there are several border crossings that take less than an hour. The most popular route is the Great St Bernard Pass, which takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Martigny in Switzerland to Aosta in Italy.

If you’re an EU citizen, visiting Switzerland is as simple as a walk in the park! You don’t need any visa: just enjoy your vacation time. So go explore new lands without worrying about unnecessary paperwork – with so many great places to see, there’s no excuse for staying put at home! However, have your ID with you as there might be border controls.

If you are not an EU citizen but have a Schengen visa , you can also visit both countries without hassle.

10 DAYS IN ITALY AND SWITZERLAND ITINERARY

So, let´s get started with your trip to Italy and Switzerland.

 🇮🇹 DAY: 1 MILAN

Milan is a city located in northern Italy and is the capital of the Lombardy region. It is known as one of the fashion capitals of Europe (the people here are really the most beautifully dressed ever), as well as being an important financial center and home to numerous cultural attractions.

Milano Duomo, Lombardy itinerary

Some of the most famous sights in Milan include the Duomo di Milano , one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Europe, and La Scala opera house, which is home to some of the world’s best operas. Other attractions include Sforza Castle and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

Start with a visit to the Duomo di Milano at the heart of the city. After that, take a stroll around La Scala Opera House and admire its beauty. Then explore Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the oldest shopping malls in Europe. For lunch, have a traditional Italian meal at one of the city’s many restaurants.

In the afternoon, take a stroll around Sforza Castle and its beautiful gardens.

Though Milan is not my favorite Italian city, it is a great place to visit – even if it is just for the jaw-dropping cathedral. I would not stay longer than a day in Milan though – too many places nearby are waiting for you!

ACTIVITIES/TOURS IN MILAN

➡️ Milan: Cathedral and Rooftop Ticket

➡️ Milan: Historical Walking Tour and The Last Supper Ticket

➡️ Milan: Sforza Castle Entry Ticket with Digital Audioguide

WHERE TO STAY IN MILAN

LUXURY: I once stayed at the beautiful Principe Di Savoia – Dorchester Collection . This 5-star hotel offered everything I needed for my 1-night stay. And because it is not directly located in the city center (but not too far away), a limo service will get you to the city center – free of charge.

➡️ Check out rates and availabilities here .

MID-RANGE: This 3-star hotel, Missori Suites , is centrally located and might be the perfect choice for your trip!

➡️ Check out rates and availabilities here.

FROM MILAN TO COMO

The train from Milan to Como takes between 40-75 minutes. Tickets start from only 5 € (depending on which connection etc.)

 🇮🇹 DAY 2 & 3: LAKE COMO

Spending two days in Lake Como is a perfect escape for anyone looking to explore the beauty of Italy.

Lake Como is a lake in northern Italy, located at the base of the Alps and about 40km north of Milan. The lake is shaped like an inverted Y, with two long branches that extend from the city of Como in the south to Colico in the northeast.

Pigra at Lake Como

It is renowned for its scenic beauty, making it a popular tourist destination, and it is also home to some of the world’s most luxurious villas. The lake has several small towns located along its shoreline, including Bellagio , Menaggio, and Varenna.

There are numerous activities such as swimming, sailing, windsurfing and even skiing in the winter months. It is also possible to take boat trips around the lake, with regular ferry services connecting many of the towns and villages along its shoreline.

Additionally, Lake Como also boasts some excellent restaurants serving up delicious Italian cuisine.

WHERE TO STAY IN COMO

There are plenty of places to stay on Lake Como, ranging from luxury resorts to more modest accommodation options.

LUXURY : One of the most luxurious hotels in Como is this 4-star property Villa Flori .

➡️ Click here to find the best rates for Villa Flori.

MID-RANGE: If you want something more budget-friendly and decide to stay in Como, check out B&B Hotel Como City Center. It is an affordable but very well-rated hotel, where you get good value for money.

➡️ Click here to find the best rates at B&B Hotel Como City Center.

At the end of day 3, head back to Milan. Why? Because something very special is waiting for you.

FROM COMO TO MILAN:

From Como, take the train back to Milan. – it takes between 40-75 minutes. Tickets start from only 5 € (depending on which connection etc.)

 🇮🇹 🇨🇭 DAY 4: MILAN – BERNINA EXPRESS

This day is about one of the most scenic train rides in the world. This day is about glaciers, tunnels, Alps, lakes. This day is about window views and relaxation. You could just sit back and enjoy an amazing ride from the comfort of a train.

What makes the Bernina Express so special, I think it should be part of the Italy/Switzerland itinerary? Well, From Tirano, Italy to Chur via St.Moritz in Switzerland – this train ride is just a feast for the eyes.

Alp Grüm Bernina Express with Arzo Travels

Since you are in Milan, you can start from there, and snaking through the majestic Swiss Alps, this iconic railway route takes riders over breathtaking landscape views and across two towering passes. The train winds its way up to Tirano, Italy – and here the Bernina Express officially starts.

The Bernina Express is a spectacular ride through the Alps! You’ll glide over the stunning 65-meter-high Landwasser Viaduct, an architectural masterpiece, and UNESCO World Heritage site.

Easy hikes in Switzerland

Along the winding route from Chur to Tirano, marvel at the engineering feats of 55 tunnels and 196 bridges. Witness breathtaking views of the Bernina massif at the Montebello curve, gaze upon the impressive Morteratsch glacier, and admire the pristine beauty of the lakes along the way.

Don’t miss the unique Alp Grüm and the mesmerizing Brusio Circular Viaduct on this truly remarkable Alpine adventure!

TIP 1: You end your journey to St.Moritz – my tip is not to get all the way to Chur. There are some parts after St.Moritz, which are actually pretty impressive, but you will get to see this later during this trip.

TIP 1: There are some extra tickets for the Bernina Express from Milan to Chur. You could buy one of them and use the iconic Bernina Express. These trains run 1-3 a day, depending on the season. If you have a Swiss Travel Pass, then there is no need to buy a ticket for the Tirano to Chur route, as the Pass is valid for the route. But you have to pay a compulsory reservation fee which is up to 30 CHF in the summer months.

OR, you can take a “fake” Bernina Express. So, why do I call them fake Bernina Express? Well, there are local trains that do go the same route. There are no panoramic windows, and you might have to change trains once or twice.

However, there is no need for any reservation and thus, it would be completely covered by the Swiss Travel Pass. Also, there are a few more stops (in case you want to get out), and they run much more frequently (at least once every hour to be precise).

FROM MILAN TO ST.MORITZ

This train ride from Milan to St.Moritz takes about 4 hours – but it is a pretty ride, so buckle up (not literally as there are no seatbelts in Swiss trains) and enjoy!

🇨🇭DAY 5 & 6: ST. MORITZ

So, after this amazing train ride you had the day before, it is about going out and exploring the stunning Engadine Valley.

St. Moritz is a popular destination for tourists all year round as it offers something unique to each season, but it is especially beautiful during the summer months.

Located in the Swiss Alps of the Engadine Valley and surrounded by some of Europe’s most stunning mountain peaks, St. Moritz provides an idyllic natural playground for outdoor enthusiasts.

View of St Moritz from Corvaglia mountain

In the summer months, St. Moritz offers a variety of activities and attractions to keep you busy. Whether you enjoy hiking, biking, boating, horseback riding, and more in the surrounding mountainous landscape – you can choose from a variety of activities.

But most of all, I am in love with St.Moritz for its amazing mountain views – whether you get up Corvatsch Mountain or Diavolezza, you have some of the best panoramas. And the lakes…ahhh, what should I tell you? Yes, Lake Como is a beauty and Lake Maggiore (which you will see later) is also a pretty lake. But Lake Silvaplana and Lake Sils are next-level stunning.

View of Upper Engadine Lakes incl Silser Lake, Silvaplana Lake

St. Moritz also makes for an ideal holiday destination as there is a wide range of accommodation options such as luxury hotels, apartments, and chalets to choose from.

With its picturesque backdrop, St. Moritz is also the perfect place for a romantic getaway or family vacation.

DIAVOLEZZA glaciers with dog in the background

TIP: You can use public transportation for free with your Swiss Travel Pass. However, the cable cars/funiculars do not offer any discounts with your Swiss Travel Pass. The reason I recommend visiting St.Moritz for two nights is the following: It is a stunning Swiss destination.

But there is also another reason: If you stay a minimum of 2 nights in one of the participating hotels, you get a pass – for free – that allows you to use public transportation and all 13 cable cars/funiculars in the valley for free!

This offer is only available in the warmer months (so from June to early October) and is known as the “Bergbahn Inklusive”. You can also buy mountain passes instead of single tickets, in case you do not stay 2 nights in St.Moritz.

WHERE TO STAY IN ST.MORITZ

These accommodations in St.Moritz all offer the Bergbahn Inklusive ticket (if you stay for at least two nights).

LUXURY: This hotel, Badrutt’s Palace ,  has everything you are looking for when booking a 5-star hotel in St. Moritz. From an extensive spa area to a lounge and bar area, luxurious hotel rooms and suites, and more.

➡️ Check out prices here.

MID-RANGE: Hotel Corvatsch is a 3-star hotel located in the lower part of St. Moritz. and only a 3-minute walk from the lake and the Signal Cable Car.

➡️ Here are prices and availabilities .

BUDGET: The St. Moritz Youth Hoste l is situated at the edge of the forest in the lower part of St. Moritz. During the day, there is a bus that gets you to the St. Moritz train station. The rooms all have shared bathrooms, and breakfast is always included – you cannot find a better deal in all of St. Moritz.

➡️ Check out rates here.

FROM ST.MORITZ TO LOCARNO

The train ride is about 4 hours – but no reason to be upset about it. First, get to Thusis – this is part of the Bernina Express which is absolutely amazing and which you did not get to see if you got out at St.Moritz.

Then continue your journey to Bellinzona and then to Locarno – as you probably are well aware by now, train rides in Switzerland are more fun than just a necessary evil!

🇨🇭 DAY 7 & 8: LOCARNO / ASCONA

So, after a few days in pretty St.Moritz, head to Ticino , the Italian-speaking canton.

Locarno is located on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore (Lago di Maggiore) and is a popular tourist destination. The town boasts beautiful scenery with views of both lake and mountains, including nearby Cardada Mountain .

Lago Maggiore in Locarno

Enjoy the stunning architecture of the old town, go for a boat ride on Lake Maggiore, take hikes in the nearby mountains and forests, or explore some of the cultural sights such as the International Film Festival held every August. Many restaurants and cafes line the waterfront promenade.

Lake Maggiore, also known as Verbano, is a large lake in northwestern Italy and southern Switzerland. It is the largest and deepest of all the pre-Alpine lakes in the region. The lake is partly Swiss and partly Italian – one could say, a perfect mix!

If you have time, walk towards Ascona (or hop on a bus) which is about 4 km from Locarno. Ascona is a small Swiss town located in the Ticino region of Switzerland, on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore.

Ascona is known for its warm climate, stunning scenery, and beautiful “lake” beaches, making it a great place to enjoy some rest and relaxation.

Ascona in Switzerland a great stop

Ticino is actually a little peace of Italy in the heart of Switzerland – the best of two worlds!

TIP: The boat ride on Lago di Maggiore is free with a Swiss Travel Pass (pick the tour that is in the Swiss side of the lake).

WHERE TO STAY IN LOCARNO

Tip, though I recommend staying overnight in Locarno, I also understand if you do not like changing hotels too often. If that is the case with you, I suggest leaving your luggage at the train station (there are lockers which cost about 10 CFH for 12 hours but have a max. size).

Explore Locarno and then get your luggage and check in your accommodation in Valle Verzasca. But if you prefer staying in Locarno, here are some hotel tips.

LUXURY : I have stayed at a couple of very luxurious hotels, but this is probably one of my favorites:  Villa Orselina!  It is a top luxurious small boutique hotel in Orselina, just a few minutes from Locarno.

MID-RANGE: I did not stay at Hotel Garni Muralto , but it is one of the best-rated hotels in that price range. It is not directly in Locarno, but Muralto just borders Locarno and you can get there within minutes.

➡️ Find out prices here.

Do not expect bargains when traveling in Switzerland, so there are no real budget hotels. But here are some general money-saving tips,  check out my post for the best advice.

🇨🇭 DAY 9 & 10 VALLE VERZASCA AND DEPARTURE

Ohhhh, my! Today it is time to explore one of the most unique destinations in Switzerland : the impressive Valle Verzasca Valley.

Valle Verzasca itinerary Ticino, Switzerland

Valle Verzasca is a spectacular valley located in the canton of Ticino . The entire region is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and abundance of outdoor activities. The valley is one of the most scenic parts of Switzerland, with lush green meadows and majestic mountains providing an unforgettable backdrop.

Valle Verzasca valley in Switzerland

Enjoy activities such as hiking, mountain biking, swimming, rock climbing, and kayaking. From ancient castles to small villages tucked away in secluded valleys and waterfalls , Valle Verzasca has something for everyone!

One of the most popular attractions in Valle Verzasca is the Lavertezzo Bridge , an impressive stone arch bridge that crosses the river at Lavertezzo. Constructed in 1618, this historic structure has become a symbol of Valle Verzasca’s past and present.

Valle Verzasca is so pretty, it’s impossible to take a bad photograph here!

Tip: Most people just come here for a day – and while a day trip to Valle Verzasca is better than none, I recommend staying here overnight and seeing some places others do not see in one day.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON SWITZERLAND AND ITALY ITINERARY

This Switzerland and Italy itinerary is the perfect combination of culture, nature, adventure, and relaxation. From the stunning architecture of Switzerland’s old towns to Italy’s breathtaking lakeside views and Switzerland’s majestic mountains and forests, this trip has something for everyone.

With plenty of opportunities for exploration, relaxation, or a little bit of both – Switzerland and Italy are sure to give you an unforgettable experience that will stay with you forever! So don’t forget your camera – because it would be a shame to miss out on capturing these amazing memories!

Happy travels!

Complete 7 Day Road Trip: Germany, Austria, Switzerland

  • September 22, 2022 April 3, 2023

7 Day Road Trip through Germany, Austria & Switzerland, Photo by Max Böttinger on Unsplash

Last updated on April 3rd, 2023 at 09:48 am

Do you want to experience 4 different countries in 7 days? This is the itinerary for you. It includes a 7 day road trip through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, but also, the sixth smallest country in the world, Liechtenstein! This is the perfect trip for you to make a good dent on your scratch map. The road trip begins and ends in Frankfurt.

How is driving in Germany, Austria & Switzerland?

What is the best time of year to travel to germany, austria & switzerland, is it expensive in germany, austria & switzerland, 1 night in frankfurt, 1 night in nuremburg, 1 night in munich.

  • Schloss Neuschwanstein
  • 1 Night in Innsbruck
  • Liechtenstein

1 Night in Zurich

1 night in freiburg im breisgau, 1 night in baden baden, back to frankfurt.

Can’t get enough of Germany? Then why not consider Berlin? 3 Day Berlin Itinerary: The Best Spots in Berlin

Love to tour around, why not get in 3 of the most popular cities in Italy in 7 days with my 1 week Rome, Florence & Venice itinerary.

Or take a week to admire the stunning beaches, ancient sites and recreate scenes from Game of Thrones in Croatia with my 7 Day Split Croatia Itinerary

  • In Germany, there were a lot of roadworks so there may be areas where you have to drive very slowly through. So account for these delays when you are getting to the next stop of the route. This website has an interactive map that shows where the roadworks are, for what distance and the speed limit you have to do.
  • Munich is a nightmare to drive in so I would suggest parking on the outskirts of the City and getting public transport in.
  • Research parking before you get to each place so you are not stressed about where to park when you get there.
  • On the autobahn (motorway in Germany), there are certain sections where you can go as fast as you like, there is no speed limit. These areas are marked by a white sign with 4 black diagonal lines. So unless you have a powerful car, try keep to the slow lane because there will be cars zooming past so fast, you will barely see them.
  • When entering Austria, you need a vignette for the windscreen of your car. You can buy this 10 day toll sticker for about €6 online or via petrol stations, newsagents or post offices. Find more information on the Austrian vignette toll sticker here .
  • In Switzerland, you need to have a vignette too. Buy the one that lasts 1 year (that is the one you need) and it will cost about €35. You can buy it in petrol stations or online. Visit this website for more information on the Swiss vignette.

Autumn is the best time to do this trip. We went at the start of November and driving through the Black Forest was stunning with the multi-coloured leaves surrounding us.

What’s more, in some of the cities, they were starting to get ready for the Christmas festivities – setting up the Christmas markets and mulled wine could be bought everywhere or Gluhwein as they call it.

As well as this, driving to Austria was very scenic as the mountains were covered in snow.

Germany is quite cheap when you compare it to many of its western neighbours. I was delighted with myself when I could get a pretzel the size of my head for €1 for my breakfast and beer that was under €4. We found Austria cheap as well, similar to Germany. Here, I was drinking cocktails for €3.

But be mindful that Switzerland, on the other hand, is far more expensive. We went to an Irish pub and it was €30 for a burger, chips and a beer!! We only got one meal in Switzerland and waited until we were over the border in to Germany to get our breakfast the next morning.

Romerberg, road trip Germany, Austria, Switzerland

I think a good starting and ending point on the road trip through Germany, Austria & Switzerland is Frankfurt as it has a major international airport with flights arriving from all over the world (Frankfurt Airport or FRA), so it is a good option if you are coming by plane. This City is quite industrialised as it is a major financial hub and home to the European Central Bank.

In Frankfurt, we walked around the City, the old town and Romerberg was a really nice part of the City. As well as this, we climbed the main tower and got a 360 view over Frankfurt. But, I would suggest to spend no more than one day here.

Where to stay in Frankfurt for one night?

  • Hotel Miramar am Romer is a nice option which is about €80 per night for a double room. It is a 3 star hotel, located centrally.
  • We stayed at Main Hotel Frankfurt City . It was €40 for the night for a double room and shared bathroom. If you are on a tight budget, this is fine. It was really basic, more like a hostel, than a hotel. It was nothing special and fairly old, but it did the job for 1 night.
  • a&o Frankfurt Ostend hostel is an option which may be a good option for those travelling on their own. It is around €40 per night for a bed in a female or mixed 6 bed dorm. It is about 2.6km from city centre.

Driving time: 2 hours 50 minutes On day 2 of this 7 day itinerary, head to Nuremburg. We didn’t know much about it before going, but it was surprisingly nice. We paid a visit to the Nuremberg Castle and walked by the City Walls. The Lorzenkirche is a lovely church in the Centre and we had a browse around the market Square too.

Where to Stay in Nuremburg?

  • If you are looking for a hostel, the 5 reasons hostel is a good choice. It is located in the city centre and you can get a bed in a dorm for as little as €28 per night.
  • We stayed at Ibis Hotel Nurnberg Alstadt . It was €59 for 1 night for a standard queen room. It was really nice and just a short walk from the town and all the main attractions.
  • If you have more to spend then Park Inn by Radisson Nürnberg seems to be a good option. It is around €75 per night and has great reviews.

Munich, Germany, Austria, Switzerland itinerary 7 days

Driving time: 1 hour 55 minutes

Munich is known for its beer and Oktoberfest, the annual celebration. I remember looking up everywhere I went because the buildings were so big.

While we were in Munich, we went to see a Soccer match at the Allianz Arena. I have no interest in soccer and only went because I am a sound girlfriend, but the stadium was actually really cool. The outside of the stadium was lit up in red as we were entering and there was a great atmosphere inside.

Where to Stay in Munich?

  • For a budget friendly hostel, you can stay at Jaegers Munich . You can get a bed in dorm for just €24 per night. The ratings are very good.
  • Hotel Eder is a great mid range option, around €90 per night. The location is great, just a 3-minute walk from Munich Main train Station. The rankings are very good across the board, but especially good on value for money.
  • If you are looking for a more high end place to stay with great reviews and central location, you can check out Hotel Concorde a 4 star hotel. A room here is about €200 per night.

A visit to Schloss Neuschwanstein

Schloss Neuschwanstein,

Driving time: 1 hour 50 minutes Stop at Schloss Neuschwanstein on you way to Innsbruck, you will not regret it. This castle was built in the 19th Century, based near the town of Fussen on the Austrian border with such beautiful surroundings.

We did not purchase any tickets and just walked around the outside. But you have the option to enter and get a guided tour here . The walk up to the castle from the road can takes about 30 minutes but you have the option of getting a shuttle bus also when you are there.

When you get to the top, there is a place selling hot drinks, we paid €5 each for a coffee and you get to keep the cup (they are proper cups with a picture of the castle on them).

1 night in Innsbruck

Innsbruck - Road trip Germany, Austria, Switzerland

Driving time: 1 hour 50 minutes The drive is really cool to Innsbruck, we had a view of snow covered mountains and you pass through many tunnels that go through the mountains. The town of Innsbruck is really scenic as the mountains are right beside it.

While we were here, we got a cable car to the top of Innsbruck. It was a very worthwhile experience and I would highly recommend it. We booked our tickets with get your guide. If you want to go too, you can book your tickets here .

Where to stay in Innsbruck?

  • In Innsbruck, we stayed in Montagu Hostel , it was really nice, clean, basic accommodation. I would highly recommend it. We stayed in the standard double room and it was €72 for the night.
  • B&B Hotel Heimgartyl has very good ratings on booking.com. It is located very well. 15 min walk from the town and 5 minutes from the cable car. It is around €90 per night for a double room.
  • If you want to go all out, you can stay in Hotel Maximilian , a 4 star hotel for about €180 per night. It has a superb ranking on booking.com and is centrally located.

A quick stop in Liechtenstein

Vaduz Castle Liechtenstein

Driving time: 2 hours 20 minutes On route to Zurich, choose to go by Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein. It is more or less on the way anyway. We stopped here for a walk around the town. There is a nice view of Vaduz Castle, which is situated up on a hill.

Driving time: 1 hour 15 minutes

On day 4 of this 7 day road trip, make way to Zurich. Zurich is the financial capital of Switzerland, a very expensive city. It is a nice to stroll around and take in the old town.

Where to Stay in Zurich for one night?

  • Green Marmot Capsule Hotel Zurich is a good, reasonably priced option. A single capsule is around €50 per night. Capsule hotels are basically many small bed sized rooms that are known as capsules and have a curtain at the entrance. It is reviewed very good.
  • We stayed in Hotel St. George’s for €117 for 1 night. It is a 2 star hotel and was really nice. I would recommend it.
  • A more high-end option would be Boutique Hotel Helmhaus Zürich , a 4 star hotel. A double room is about €350 per night here. The location is central and the reviews are great.

Driving time: 1 hour 50 minutes

Freiburg is among the Southern part of the Black Forest and is known for its medieval town centre. So, on the way to Freiburg, we got to see areas of the black forest. While you are here, you should take a stroll down the picturesque cobblestone streets and check out the shops along the way, it is a charming place.

Where to Stay in Freiburg?

  • The Black Forest Hostel is a good budget option, here you can get a single bed in a dorm for as little as €25. It is located well, just 0.8km from the centre.
  • We stayed at Hotel & Restaurant Sichelschmiede for the night. We booked the double room and paid €99. We really liked this accommodation. The room was above a restaurant/bar and the building is really pretty with rooms that have a real cosy feel to them.
  • If you want to treat yourself to a 4 star hotel, the try the Park Hotel Post. It is around €150 for 1 night for a double room. Breakfast is included. The location is great, situated in the old town. Also, the hotel offers free bicycle hire, which may be a nice way to explore Freiburg.

Black Forest Route

Black forest views on our 7 day road trip through Germany, Austria & Switzerland

From Freiberg, we joined the Bundesstrabe 500 or B500 around the location of ‘Fuhrer Hauptquartier Tannenberg’. The ideal route is to stay on this road to Baden Baden and this is the real height of the Black Forest. So, be sure to stop along the way, there are areas to pull in and go for a stroll up the mountain and take in the scenery.

Driving time: 2 hours 10 minutes

On the last day of our 7 day road trip in Germany, Austria & Switzerland, we opted to stay in Heidelberg. But I wished we stayed in Baden Baden as it looks to be a better option. My thoughts on Heidelberg is that it is good for shopping which is not what we were looking for. That is why I would recommend Baden Baden instead.

Baden Baden is located in the black forest and world renowned for it’s Roman bath culture. Caracalla spa and Friedrichsbad are the 2 most well known so consider a visit to at least one. As well as this, it is a good base to go hiking in the black forest.

Where to Stay in Baden Baden?

  • Hotel Athos is around €90 per night for a double room. It has really good ratings and is located in a park just 10 minutes walk from the town centre.
  • Hotel Rathausglöckel a 4 star hotel, costing roughly €150 per night for a double room. It has great reviews and located in the old town.

Driving time: 2 hour 5 minutes

The final stop is returning to Frankfurt to catch your flight or continue to your next destination.

I hope you enjoyed this itinerary for a 7 day road trip through Germany, Austria & Switzerland and your journey is an enjoyable one. If you found this helpful, feel free to share it with your friends. Comment below your thoughts or experiences.

Day 1 Amsterdam

Arrive at any time, find a comfy spot in the hostel to relax or go out to explore before meeting fellow Roamies in the evening.

Exclusive Inclusions:

Day 2 amsterdam/berlin.

Remember booking this trip months back? Now, you’re actually on it, in the places you hoped to experience. What a cool feeling! Soak it up with an included bike tour of Amsterdam. Hop on two wheels and cruise along the city's canals like the locals do. Then, travel by train from Amsterdam to Berlin where you will have a free evening to explore this fascinating city. You could also spend the evening unwinding in your hostel. Maybe play some cards as a group. Anyone ever heard of “Pitch”?

Meals included:

Day 3 berlin.

Let loose today, we dare you. Why? Because it will be fun, especially with your newest pals. Get your bearings with an orientation walk with your CEO around the city. Then, it's your turn to explore the tangible history and melting pot of cultures at work here. Head straight for the Berlin Wall, walk through the Brandenburg Gate, and feast those eyes on the Checkpoint Charlie Museum.

Want to try something even cooler? Rent a bike and visit the now defunct Tempelhof Airport which doubles as a beautiful park space in the city. (A best-kept local secret if we do say so ourselves). At night lounge in the hostel or witness the vibrant nightlife Berlin is known for.

Day 4 Berlin/Prague

Prague is up next, with a few treats along the way! First up on your journey is Dresden, Germany. Home to a booming art scene, we think a visit there to wander around the cobblestone streets, is a must. Explore the picturesque old town, stroll through the charming streets and take in the beautiful views of the Elbe River. Step back in time and admire the stunning reconstruction of Frauenkirche, a must-see landmark in Dresden. Indulge in the art and culture scene.

Afterwards, hit the road and arrive in Prague by early evening. Your day doesn’t end here, gather as a group and go on a highlight walk with your cool CEO passing must-see places like, the TV Tower of Prague, the Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge, and John Lennon's Wall, followed by a beer tasting to experience Prague's famous brews.

Day 5 Prague

Soak up the atmosphere of Prague on a highlight walk of all the city has to offer. Afterwards, hit up the famous Charles Bridge with your friends, admire the clock tower in the main square, or sit and sip a thirst-quenching brew at a traditional Czech beer hall with a side of meat and potatoes. It’s guaranteed to be a loud, lively and marvellous time! Remember, it's all up to you.

Day 6 Prague/Vienna

You're in for a day of unbeatable views! Get ready for another round of those back-in-time feelings as you stroll through the Medieval town of Cesky Krumlov on the way to Vienna. Be your own Queen (or King) of the castle as you explore 13th century ramparts with the added bonus of spectacular views. Slip into your inner explorer and see the Old Town from the top of the round bell tower, people watch from a cafe in the main square while you debate as a group where to have lunch, and then toss a coin to make the decision.

Finish the day in Vienna where you’ll get to know the city as a group on an evening highlights walk. Pass sites like, St. Stephen's Cathedral, Rathaus, National Library, The Hofburg and much more. Later, kick back, relax, and have some laughs at your hostel.

Day 7 Vienna

We’re excited for you today! The day is yours, but don’t let the freedom paralyze you. We have plenty of suggestions. You could seek out famous landmarks like, The Vienna State Opera House, Belvedere Palace, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and Vienna City Hall.

Remember, we all need a little downtime during our travels, so if you need a break we get it. Grab a coffee, order a slice of mouthwatering cake and settle yourself in with your pals on a café terrace as the world moves on around you. Don’t worry, you still have plenty of time to keep finding a few world-famous museums and indulge in typical Austrian desserts like strudel or Sacher Torte. Keep in mind your CEO just might know the best secret places that will really set your experience apart from the main crowd. Ask away!

Day 8 Vienna/Salzburg

If you have a soft spot for beautiful alpine lakes that border two countries, today is going to check off all of those boxes. You’ll be able to wander around the clear waters of Konigsee, smell the fresh air, and find that inner peace that comes from being in the great outdoors.

Salzburg is up next, so don’t forget to save some of that wanderlust energy! You’ll go with the group on an orientation walk of the city. Wander the historic squares and quaint little side streets of Salzburg Old Town. Climb Festungsberg Hill to visit Hohensalzburg Castle, or find the birthplace of Mozart and meet up to go to the museum there.

Day 9 Salzburg/Munich

A whistle blows in the distance as a conductor shouts, “All Aboard!” You rush to the platform, jumping on with just moments to spare. While this may not be exactly what happens today, it will pretty much be along those lines when you hop on a train from Salzburg to Munich. A city with a big heart, as charming as it is laid back, and as buzzing as it is calm will be waiting for you upon arrival.

Spend time in Marienplatz, home to the Old and New Town Halls. Find the famous glockenspiel, or one of the many great beer halls, or the green dome-crested towers of the iconic Church of Our Lady. The vibe is totally up to you, have a pint, or two, or three!

Day 10 Munich

Set your inner detective on the loose in search of the best experiences in Munich. Visit museums, art galleries, lush gardens, and main squares. Learn about the history and culture and shop, eat, drink, and walk until you drop. If you need time to recuperate, opt to stay in the hostel and relax in the common areas before the group welcomes new travellers in the evening.

Day 11 Munich/Innsbruck

Get this adventure started and road trip from Munich to Innsbruck. Nestled snugly in a picturesque valley with panoramic views of the alps, Innsbruck won't disappoint. Get your bearings with the help of your CEO and spend some free time becoming familiar with your hostel and surroundings. Opt to wander along Maria Theresien Street, explore the Grassmayr Bell Foundry, or check out Ambras Castle, famous for its renaissance gardens. Get ready to fill your camera roll!

Day 12 Innsbruck/Venice

Pile onto the bus again and head into the epic scenery of the Dolomites. Think filling your feed with crystal clear mountain lakes and snow-capped peaks. Take a hiatus from the road and stroll around Lake Misurina in the province of Belluno. Known as the “Pearl of Cadore”, you won’t be disappointed with what you find here. The mirror-like reflection of the mountains in the lake makes it seem as if you are walking in a dream.

But don’t forget, Venice is the real end goal of today, so try not to get too attached to Belluno, we bet you already did. Tonight join your CEO for a nice cold beverage and see where the night takes you.

Day 13 Venice

“Oh what a night, what a beautiful night…” This tends to be the song stuck in our heads whenever a visit to Venice is on the table. Can’t you just hear that accordion? After becoming acquainted with Venice's cuisine on a CEO-led food tour, and learning of ghostly legends, the day is yours, no judgments here on what you decide to do. From canals to gondola rides, and inspiring architecture, what’s not to love?

The main city is small enough that you can walk it in several hours with the added bonus of getting those steps in. Explore the canals, relax in the small squares, and go cafe-hopping for coffee, pastries, wine, or all three, because why not? See Venice from the water on a gondola ride through the canals, run through the pigeons or people watch in St. Mark’s Square, take an elevator ride up to the top of the Campanile Di San Marco for panoramic views of the city below. Your only real job today is to have a blast!!

Day 14 Venice/Florence

We promise your tastebuds will thank you and rejoice with what’s on the menu for today’s adventure. All aboard the train from Venice to Florence. Being one of Italy’s most sought after food capitals, make sure you stuff your face while here. Eat the city’s signature pasta and venture out of those comfort zones to sample any specialty dishes you may stumble upon. Your CEO will point you in the right direction on an orientation walk and market visit. This evening happens to be perfect if you are looking to relax, eat some more (if you can), or recover from those food comas in your hostel before a quick highlight tour of the city.

Day 15 Florence

Live your best life on this free day in Florence! Grab some pals, lace up those walking shoes, and let the good times roll. Take in famous works of art hung in the Uffizi and Galleria dell’Accademia. “Oh and ah” at the grand architectural masterpieces of the Duomo and the Palazzo Pitti, and smell the flowers in Boboli Gardens. Looking for more chill vibes? We got you covered. Walk along the Arno and over the Ponte Vecchio before eating your way through the Firenze’s many cafes, ristorantes, and gelato shops.

Day 16 Florence/Rome

Leave Florence behind and catch the train to Rome. Upon arrival grab your travel mates and enjoy a walking your before letting your appetites run wild on an afternoon food tour; cue those Italian fantasies. Sample pizza, gelato and more as you learn about the heart and soul behind Italian cooking.

Get your bearings of Rome on a quick CEO led orientation walk before the night is yours. Did someone say dance party?
