Yeh drew on years of experience to make her farmhouse kitchen function effortlessly.

Home Is Where the Eggs Are

“When I lived in New York, I had a kitchen the size of a closet—I would whip egg whites on the floor of my bedroom and try not to spill,” laughs Yeh, whose second cookbook, Home Is Where the Eggs Are , is out September 27 from Harper Collins. “Over time I got to know a few kitchens, each one a bit different, and collected tidbits of information to help me design my own. I loved the way my stove faced out in my first kitchen, but didn’t like the way the dishwasher was across the kitchen in my next one. Working in my first professional kitchen, I learned about a speed rack [a cooling shelf system], and thought, Why don’t we use those in home kitchens? ”

Around the time Yeh moved to Minnesota, her blog, My Name is Yeh , and Instagram feed—with their pitch-perfect mix of relatable recipes (Tater Tot hotdish!) and sprinkle-laden food styling—went viral, and she found herself with a cooking show: Food Network’s Girl Meets Farm. “Working on her set kitchen allowed Molly to dial in on each area of her new kitchen to ensure it was efficient as possible,” says Brandi Youngmark, the designer Yeh hired in collaboration with Hayley Lukaczyk, her art director on the show, to bring it all to life. The goal? A “jigsaw puzzle” of collected design ideas that “preserved as much of the farmhouse history as possible,” says Youngmark.

They even found room for a speed rack, where Yeh cools her abundant baked goods. The resulting space, says Yeh, “is at the intersection of functionality and an aesthetic that I felt in my heart would grow with us.” Read on to see how she fit it all together.

1. Outward-Facing Range

The island range was the jumping-off point for kitchen design and is now the nexus for the entire kitchen. "I started with my absolute favorite thing in the world, which is standing at a stove, making a pot of soup, and then in my sight line off in the living room I'm able to see Bernie playing with her princess castle and Ira wiggling on her wiggle pad," she says of her two children. "To be able to have that outward facing stove was huge for me. And then we built it around that."

2. Built-in Hutch

Yeh loved the look of open shelving, but not the constant upkeep, so she enlisted local cabinetmaker Mitch Johnson to create a semi-open unit. “It’s a nod to an antique china hutch,” she explains—and one that adds much more patina and character to the space: "I didn't want it to feel like a sterile environment," Yeh says. "I wanted it to feel like a kitchen that had been on this farm for generations, even though it was new."

3. High Wall Oven

A waist-high Viking oven with French doors means no backbreaking bends to whip up cakes and casseroles, two of Yeh’s signature dishes. "A really good friend of mine once said, 'You should have an oven at waist height because when you're cooking your Thanksgiving turkey you don't want to break your back,'" she laughs.

4. Cook-Bookcases

Any spare inches were converted to shelves where Yeh stashes her favorite recipe collections (alongside some kids' books) in quick reach. "I wanted it to almost feel like a kitchen/library hybrid," muses Yeh.

5. Double Countertops

Chopping happens on the island’s wood countertop, while dough gets rolled on the cool marble atop the kitchen’s perimeter cabinets. "I wanted to have those two materials that function very differently," Yeh says. "And I also like that marble material for backgrounds when I'm taking pictures, and so it's right up against the window."

6. Organized Junk Drawer

Johnson created this custom chest built right into the cabinetry to corral the contents of a typical junk drawer into individual cubbies. "We refer to this as the glorified, organized junk drawer," Yeh proclaims.

7. Specialty Zones

While the stove area is the command center, Yeh also designated spaces for coffee and baking. Ingredients for both are stored under the main appliances. (The one exception? Her spices, which are stored away from the stove because—pro tip!—the heat can hinder their shelf lives).

8. Custom Pegboard

An homage to Julia Child, this walnut piece that hangs behind the range is where Yeh shows off her East Fork Pottery mugs. "We feel like this is really the heartbeat of the whole house, because every morning it's our ritual to come up to our rainbow of mugs and think, 'what color should I choose today?'" Yeh's signature sprinkles are stashed in wings behind the pegboard.

9. Pull-Out Everything

Not shown in the photos: an impressive assortment of pull-out drawers right next to the cooktop for easy reach. "One thing that drove me crazy all the time in the original kitchen on the farm house was having to have onions and potatoes and a lot of a lot of non refrigerated produce out on the counter," says Yeh. "So we built in some basket drawers right near the stove so I can just reach for an onion without moving." There's also a pull-out trash bin and hamper for all those dirty dishtowels.

10. Built-in Speed Rack

Feat not: Yeh got her speed rack. Even better for the home kitchen? It's custom-built to fit under the countertop beside the range in a genius twist of commercial-meets-residential design. Who says you can't have both?

Food Network Star Molly Yeh’s Minnesota Farmhouse Is Charming! Take a Tour of Her Cozy Home

Living on a farm is fun! Food Network star Molly Yeh is a former New York City musician whose life changed when she moved to a farm. The Girl Meets Farm star built a career around living in East Grand Forks. She and her husband, Nick Hagen , renovated a charming farmhouse which has become the setting of her successful cooking show .

Molly and Nick met when they were both students at Juilliard in New York City. After making the move from the Upper West Side to Brooklyn, Molly realized her true passion for cooking. In 2013, she and Nick decided that they wanted to leave New York and move to the small Minnesota farm town he grew up in near the North Dakota border.

The Molly On the Range author landed a job at a bakery as the couple began renting their first Midwest apartment. Less than a year later, they moved into a farmhouse previously owned by Nick’s grandmother. They decided to renovate the East Grand Forks home by adding in some bright-colored furniture, painting and just putting their own personal style into the space. Molly soon fell in love with farm life.

“Before I started dating Nick, I always thought that I wanted to end up with somebody that I would be able to be trapped on a desert island with and still have a really good time,” she wrote in a June 2018 post for Architectural Digest . “And being on a farm in the upper Midwest is like being on a desert island. We’re both really easygoing people; it's been great. I think the biggest adjustment was adjusting to his hours as a farmer. But we are both so happy to be here and he is so happy to be working with his dad on the farm.”

Beet and wheat fields surround the home, giving Molly the chance to use homegrown produce in her recipes. The first episodes of Girl Meets Farm were shot in 2017 in Molly’s adorable kitchen. Her teal fridge is hard to miss in the background of all of her shoots. The kitchen has plenty of shelves for all of the chef’s gadgets and appliances, and of course, her massive stock of sprinkles.

Molly gave birth to the couple’s first child, Bernadette Rosemary , in March 2019. The proud parents decorated the cutest nursery , complete with white and pink bunny-printed wallpaper. The nursery has plenty of cozy places to sit and stuffed animals for Bernie to play with. In September 2021, Molly announced that the couple was expecting their second child together. Their youngest daughter, Ira, was born in February 2022.

In October 2021, Molly teamed up with HGTV ’s Joanna Gaines for a special called Molly Yeh’s Magnolia Adventure on Food Network. The duo chatted about some renovations that Molly and Nick planned to make in their home. They bonded over their shared love for food and being hard-working moms who have built tremendous careers on television. It’s so fun to see Joanna’s design influences in Molly’s home! The farmhouse underwent renovations in 2022 to make it more functional for the family of four.

Molly Yeh's Crazy Transition from Brooklyn Apartment to Minnesota Farm

By Molly Yeh

blogger Molly Yeh in denim shirt standing in her kitchen

In New York City, I lived in a brownstone in Boerum Hill with two roommates. I was on the second floor; on the first floor we had on open kitchen, and eventually we had a piano. Compared to my old apartment on the Upper West Side, this place was a palace: it was huge, it had big windows, it was sunny. It felt like a home, whereas my apartment on the Upper West Side felt like just a place to sleep at night. But moving out to Brooklyn was the beginning of the end of my time in New York.

For the first time, I had this place to cook and create. A place where I actually wanted to be inside on the weekends. The whole time that I was living in Manhattan and going to school, I just wanted to go out—to restaurants, to concerts and shows—and take advantage of the city. When I got to Brooklyn, I was like, wow, I want to create a home and stay in on my weekends and cook and not go out. The timing was such that I started dating my now-husband, Nick, shortly after I moved there. We were doing things like staying in on a Friday night and ordering Domino’s pizza and watching Netflix and we were like, "Why are we doing this, and so far away from our families and paying New York prices?"

I went home for Passover—this would’ve been in 2013—for a weekend. My mom at that point lived in the suburbs of Chicago. One night, I went over to my friend's house and we just sat on the couch and did our nails and watched TV; it was the most chill night ever. It occurred to me this wasn’t something you do in New York. Nick met me at the airport and I remember coming down the escalator and the first words out of my mouth were "I want to leave New York," and the first words out of his mouth were "I want to leave New York, too." That was the first conversation.

One day, we took a train outside the city to go hiking. We were in nature and just feeling really free and relaxed. The entire time we were talking about what our options were and what it would like like if we moved to the farm where he grew up on the Minnesota/North Dakota border. I had all these questions about it: Where would we live? What would our days look like? What’s the town like? Is it like Stars Hollow on Gilmore Girls ? And he was like, yes, it basically is.

We went out there in July of that year. I took one look around and I was like, okay, this looks good. One hundred percent meant to be, 100 percent the type of thing we were ready for. At one point we told ourselves, let’s give it another year in New York. Part of that was I didn’t want to quit my job—I loved my job, I loved my bosses. But that’s when the sleepless nights started and I thought, no, I'm not going to give another year.

We went back to New York, but it was within a month that we were driving to Grand Forks. We didn’t want to waste time at that point. It was definitely sad to say goodbye to friends and to my favorite restaurants and stuff, but one huge thing was the internet. I think all the time about how this move would’ve been so different without the internet. That kept me from totally freaking out.

For the first couple of weeks, we lived at Nick’s parents' house, so it wasn't a dire situation. We had his parents there and he was going to be farming. But it was great that I was able to get a job at the bakery in town. I knew in my mind that I would have a lot of time to work on my blog, but I was also looking for things to do in Grand Forks. I didn’t even meet the owners in person. Everyone knows everyone; I think my mother-in-law made a call. They said I could start working there when I moved.

Finding an apartment in Grand Forks compared to finding one apartment in New York City—you’ve never seen anything like it. I don’t think we even signed anything. We said we’d take it and we paid the first month’s rent. There was no finding your birth certificate and your Social Security card and wrestling with the landlord and praying and crossing your fingers.

I remember loving all the space we had at our disposal and feeling like we were living in a palace. Knowing we wouldn’t be making any more moves cross-country anytime soon, we could invest in certain pieces. We got a king-size bed instead of the small double I had in Brooklyn.

The worst part is there is no IKEA around here. We really had to go the old-school route and go to Ashley Furniture HomeStore. We also had this super-great 1960s orange flowery couch from Nick’s grandma’s basement, and Nick made some tables out of pieces of wood and a sawhorse.

About eight months in, we moved into Nick's grandma's former farmhouse. That winter and spring, we did some updates: We took the wallpaper down, we covered up the yellow linoleum floors, and brightened up the place. We moved in that April.

Before I started dating Nick, I always thought that I wanted to end up with somebody that I would be able to be trapped on a desert island with and still have a really good time. And being on a farm in the upper Midwest is like being on a desert island. We’re both really easygoing people; it's been great. I think the biggest adjustment was adjusting to his hours as a farmer. But we are both so happy to be here and he is so happy to be working with his dad on the farm.

Every time I go to a city with a good opera company or an orchestra or a ballet, I check and see what’s going on. That is one thing I really miss. And still, to this day, if I see those hand-pulled noodles from Xi'an Famous Foods on Instagram, my mouth waters. I can’t get matzo ball soup, I can’t get a loaf of challah. For a while, I missed bagels. But eventually, I learned how to make bagels.

Ultimately, I was ready for the one pizza place in town to be my only pizza option. To be able to drive to a grocery store in no traffic, park my car near the door, and walk around the cart in open aisles. To be able to not worry about schlepping my groceries home on the subway. I was instantly more relaxed, it felt like shavasana at the end of a long yoga class.

This move was right for me, but all of my friends in New York City are where they should be. We know friends who move here for a job or whatnot, and some of them love it and some of them don’t, and that’s okay. If you’re thinking about doing a move, try it for a year. What’s the worst that can happen?

The Tumblr Girl Is Back&-Remember Her Bedroom?

In Her New Book, Molly Yeh Goes Back to Basics

The Food Network star and cookbook author focused on family comfort foods in her most personal book yet.

girl meets farm house tour

On Food Network’s Girl Meets Farm , Molly Yeh is calm and collected as she walks viewers through her recipes. In a cozy kitchen stuffed with knick knacks and colorful drawings, Yeh looks at home—likely because it is her home. Or, part of it. Yeh films the show at her farm in Minnesota, but the filming kitchen is separate from her everyday, household kitchen.

No matter how many steps the recipe might have or how involved the cooking techniques are, Yeh explains everything in a soft, confident tone, all while throwing in a few jokes. The whole vibe says “yeah, I can whip up a gourmet meal, and so can you.” It’s approachable and encouraging, just like Yeh herself.

While she has 11 seasons of the show under her belt now, it was her first cookbook, Molly on the Range , that catapulted her into the national spotlight. That book was a celebration of big moments; the birthdays and anniversaries, the dinner parties with friends.

But a lot has changed since Molly on the Rage debuted in 2016. Most importantly, Yeh is a mother now. Her world, and her cooking routines, have shifted. With her new book (out today),  Home is Where the Eggs Are , Yeh is zeroing in on the little moments: the favorite meal your toddler can’t get enough of, or what to make when everyone in your house is rushed and cranky. The subtitle of the book is Farmhouse Food for the People You Love and that shines through in recipes made with her family in mind.

Modern Farmer spoke with Yeh about her new book and why this one is her most personal offering yet. This interview has been lightly edited for length and clarity.

Modern Farmer: How do you view this book in relation to your other cookbooks and in relation to your show?

Yeh: This is our family’s collection of recipes that we love to have on a regular basis. While Molly on the Range was about big celebrations and huge weekend projects and things to eat when you really want to indulge, these are the recipes that we make so often and enjoy together as a family. It’s not about having big parties or celebrations or big holidays, it is simply about enjoying the everyday meals.

MF: With all of the success of Molly on the Range and your other projects, was there pressure with this book?

Yeh: Honestly, I just wanted to create this for my family. I want this to be recipes that people cook for their own family, whether that is their immediate family or it’s their best friends or their roommates or just their closest people that they really feel like they can be themselves around.

After getting to know what that book writing process was like, I was able to slow down and enjoy it a little bit more and I felt a lot more confident. It’s like having a second child or a third child; you have the confidence now to know more about the mechanics of how writing a book works, and that gives you more space to be creative and to really enjoy it and put more heart into it.

With these recipes being everyday recipes, they also did double duty in my life. These were things that I could test on my family, so I wouldn’t have to do recipe development for work and then come home and make a different thing for dinner. It was all very fluid.

MF: Does it seem like your audience has grown along with you?

Yeh: I have so many blogger friends, from when I started off blogging, and I was baking a lot of cakes and hosting parties and making cocktails and appetizers and stuff. Now, a lot of those people are settling down; we’re having families. And it’s more about how we can get our toddlers to eat vegetables and protein than if I’m going to make a cake and use a tequila in the frosting. It is a very different stage of life, but that’s a great thing to think about.

MF: This is definitely a book that incorporates family life, whatever that might look like for the reader. You talk about batch cooking, meal prep, using leftovers. And you talk about how you personally cook at home. Why did you decide to get so personal?

Yeh: You know, there was a big shift in my brain almost as soon as Bernie was born. (Yeh’s daughter, Bernadette, was born in the spring of 2019.) All of a sudden, there was this new person in my life, and if I wanted to write about her on the blog or on social media, I couldn’t ask her if she was OK with a picture. Before when it was just [my husband Nick], if ever I was telling a story about him, I would always have him proofread my blog posts and look at pictures before I put them up. And with kids, they don’t have the ability to make that decision. So, for that reason, and because I just wanted to enjoy our family time without necessarily sharing everything, I really backed off from blogging.

But with this book, we were planning the photo shoots, and I thought, well, if Bernie’s hands make it in a few shots, I think that would help to liven up some of these photos and to really illustrate the fact that this is a family book. And I was fully expected to just maybe get a few shots of her hand eating chicken soup, and that would be it. But then when we were cooking through all these recipes and taking the pictures, she got so into it and was so excited about it and loved it so much that I let her have her fun and we captured it.

I mean, it’s crazy to look at the pictures now, because they were taken over a year ago and she looks so different. But I think it captures a beautiful moment in time. So, with choosing the stories, it was the same process of capturing a moment in time, in our real lives.

MF: There’s a story in the book that I loved, where you were preparing for pregnancy by making all of these stews and casseroles and heavy dishes, and then all of a sudden you just craved salads. I just thought, yeah. That’s exactly what would happen in real life.

Yeh: We might still have some frozen mac and cheese in our deep freeze from that!

‘Girl Meets Farm’ Host Molly Yeh Is a Mom of 2! Meet Her Kids Bernie and Ira with Nick Hagen

Where Does Kathie Lee Gifford Live? Photos of Nashville Home

Girl Meets Farm host, Molly Yeh , has welcomed audiences into her stunning Minnesota farmhouse since her show premiered in 2018. Viewers have gotten to see her craft up recipes inspired by her Jewish and Chinese ethnicities and gush over being a mom to two adorable kids, Bernadette Rosemary “Bernie” Yeh Hagen and Ira Dorothy, with her husband, Nick Hagen .

The Food Network star met Nick when they were both aspiring musicians attending Julliard in New York City. They eventually moved to his hometown of Grand Forks, on the border between Minnesota and North Dakota in 2013. Their farmhouse became the perfect backdrop for Molly’s hit cooking show and a beautiful place to raise their children.

The couple welcomed their first child, Bernie, in March 2019. In September 2019, the Illinois native shared with USA Today that becoming a mom for the first time changed some of her cooking techniques and favorite dishes to make.

“Everything moves a little slower now,” she said. “I’ll wear her in my sling while I’m in the kitchen, but I don’t want to make anything where I have to use a knife. I don’t want to make anything where I have to stand too close to the stove. I’m doing a lot more no-bake things, or things that require no chopping.”

Giada De Laurentiis’ Daughter Jade Is Her Mini-Me! Meet the Food Network Host's Only Child

In September 2021, Molly revealed that she was pregnant with the couple’s second child. The television personality shared in an interview with People at the time that her pregnancy cravings the second time around included grilled shrimp, carbs and cheese. It reminded her of her first pregnancy where she frequently ate boxed macaroni and cheese.

“Cravings aside,” she said, “we’re so excited to add a new little bean to the family! Bernie is already training to be a big sister with her Cabbage Patch doll, and she’s doing great! She keeps suggesting that we name the new baby Bernie, so we’re still working on names.”

Molly and Nick welcomed baby Ira Dorothy on February 20, 2022. They announced the arrival of their second bundle of joy with a series of photos on Instagram that were taken at the hospital with their two kids.

Keep scrolling to learn more about Molly and Nick’s two children.

Molly posted the most adorable photo of Bernie on Instagram to announce her arrival in 2019. The cookbook author also shared the sentimental meaning behind Bernie’s name.

“Bernie is named after Nick’s great great grandpa Bernt, who came from Norway and started the Hagen farm, and my great-grandpa Bernard, who came over from Hungary,” she wrote on Instagram. “Rosemary was my mom’s mom.”

The proud mom gushed that she will be “cuddling and smooching her all day long forever and ever.” Since her daughter’s arrival, Molly has shared sweet photos of the youngster hanging out around the farm where Nick works. For Valentine’s Day in 2022, Molly posted a photo of a beautiful chocolate cake on Instagram, revealing in her caption that it was “taste tested by Bernie.”

Though the pandemic changed some of the plans that Molly and Nick had, including their daughter’s first birthday party, it also allowed for them to spend more time with her.

“It’s become clear that Nick is the fun one, dancing and singing and spinning her up in the air,” she said in a June 2021 with the Associated Press . “I get to see Bernie’s face when she eats my chicken noodle soup, and I get to fill the house with the smell of mac and cheese when she wakes up from her nap.”

Soon after Ira’s birth, Bernie was already adjusting to becoming a big sister. The Food Network star wrote on Instagram that the tot was “introducing Ira to all of the best things like tickles, magic wands, tutus and Frozen songs.”

Ira Dorothy Yeh Hagen

Molly shared on Instagram that her youngest daughter was born between two snowstorms, “eliminating the need to attempt to drive to the hospital on a tractor.” She added that the newborn looks like a “tiny Bernie and also a tiny grandpa.”

Much like her older sister, Ira’s name also has a sentimental meaning. Her first name was suggested by the couple’s good friend Jamie. The middle name Dorothy pays tribute to Nick’s great great grandma, Dorothea.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .
