Knowing what you can expect to experience during your visit to the Grand Canyon—besides breathtaking views—can help you plan and prepare for your visit.

Comparing Tour Types — What’s the Best Grand Canyon Tour for You? [Updated in 2023]

From bus tours that traverse the Mojave desert and airplane tours that fly high above the Southwest, there are guided tour options to suit any adventurer.

Should I Drive to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas or Take a Guided Tour?

Las Vegas is one of the closest major cities to the Grand Canyon, so the question for Vegas visitors isn’t “should I visit the Grand Canyon?”, it’s “should I drive myself to the Canyon, or take a guided tour?”.

The Best Grand Canyon Sunset Tours

A grand canyon sunset should be on your bucket list.

Of all the bucket list items you can dream up, it’s pretty hard to beat a Grand Canyon sunset tour in a helicopter or airplane. After all, it not only incorporates a perennial bucket list item — seeing the Grand Canyon up close and personal — but you also get bonus points for flying to the destination and witnessing a sunset in one of the world’s most wonderful places. Think of it as hitting the bucket list trifecta.

Soar high above the majesty of the Grand Canyon on a sunset helicopter or plane tour, any time of year with the friendly and experienced pilots of Papillon’s state-of-the-art fleet. Take in the sometimes-subtle, sometimes in-your-face colors of the American West as the sun sets over gorgeous ridges, buttes and canyons. Textures come alive as you descend onto the canyon floor and enjoy a glass of champagne along with light refreshments. In some cases, you’ll fly directly over the lights of the Las Vegas strip at night as you return from your afternoon of adventure, but multiple departure points are offered for convenience.

The Best Spots for Sunset at the Grand Canyon

Wondering where the best spot for sunsets at the Grand Canyon is located? The National Park Service has compiled a handy guide to sunrise and sunset times in the Grand Canyon, along with a guide to where each is seen best, depending on the time of year. Don’t worry too much about timetables, though. When you book a Grand Canyon Sunset tour with Papillon, our guides will ensure that you get the right experience at the right time.

Sunsets in Southern Nevada are everything you might expect and then some. With the desert stretching out before you for hundreds of miles, you’ll experience incredible hues as the sun makes its way toward the western horizon. Sunny days can lead to the crisp, classic sunset so often associated with the west. Cloudy days can actually make for some of the most eye-popping sunsets, as the sun’s rays illuminate the edges of clouds, transforming them into majestic pink, red, orange and yellow backdrops for your unforgettable day.

The Best Sunsets at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon

Looking for a Grand Canyon South Rim sunset experience? The South Rim of the Grand Canyon is one of the most popular places to watch the sun go down. Papillon guests who opt for the airplane tour with guided Hummer tour will soar over Dragon and Zuni corridors as well as Imperial Point heading from the South Rim toward the North Rim. Once on land, you can climb aboard a custom Hummer for a drive through Grand Canyon National Park as the sun begins to set. You’ll see some of the most popular spots in the park, including dramatic rock formations and gorges that slowly took on their unique shapes over millions of years.

The Best Sunsets at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon

If you’re looking to watch the sunset near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, check out our Family Flight on a Papillon helicopter, which sets off from the South Rim carrying just you and your party of friends or family. Depart the Grand Canyon Airport and fly over Kaibab National Forest before overlooking the deepest and widest portion of the canyon. Soar over the Colorado River and take in sights like Vishnu Schist and the Tower of Ra before reaching the North Rim.

Another option is the North Canyon Air Tour, which takes a similar path as the Family Flight, but is best suited for couples and solo travelers.

best spot for sunset at grand canyon

The Best Sunsets at the West Rim of the Grand Canyon

Our Grand Canyon Sunset Tour takes you high above the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead before flying over the Grand Canyon Skywalk and landing nearby for incredible West Rim sunset views. While the perfect spot to watch a Grand Canyon Sunset comes down to personal choice, many flock to the West Rim and Skywalk area for its breathtaking views. Enjoy champagne and light refreshments on your visit to a plateau 4,000 feet above the West Rim.

Essential Grand Canyon South Rim Sunset Tours

Whichever Grand Canyon sunset tour you choose, you’re certain to return with unforgettable memories and jaw-dropping photos that will last a lifetime. Other tours to consider:

  • A private tour where you can experience Grand Canyon sunsets with your closest friends.
  • A North Canyon Sunset Tour with Hummer
  • A Hummer sunset tour either with a group or privately
  • A sunset grand celebration with a Las Vegas strip flyover

Be sure to bring your ID and book your trip as early as possible. If you’re touring with us between March and September, we recommend wearing layers. For tours between October to mid-March, heavier winter clothing and hiking boots are advised. Face masks are required for all guests and employees, and each guest will undergo a temperature check before entering shuttles and terminals.

Mu was our driver who got us from point A to point B without any issues, overall a great trip. The bus ride is not short and it’s a lot of drive time there and back in one day, so they both provided for a good experience even though we were on the road for five hours both ways. Make sure you ask for Jack to sing one karaoke song on the way up, he’s a funny one. • robertgB4621YZ 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles 5 Stars! Jack and Mu: The Dream Team! I recently embarked on this epic trip to Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, and let me tell you, it was a rollercoaster of awesomeness! First off, let’s talk about Jack, our guide. Picture this: a guy with a hat that screams “I know all the secrets of the desert.” Jack was like a walking encyclopedia—except way cooler. He’d drop these mind-blowing facts about the rock formations, and I’d be there, wide-eyed, thinking, “How does he even know this stuff?” And to think he did it in English AND Mandarin. And then there’s Mu, our bus driver. Oh boy, Mu was a character! He had this infectious laugh that could light up the whole canyon. I highly recommend this dynamic duo that truly earned their 5 star rating after this unforgettable day. Read more Written April 25, 2024
  • petermC6715II 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great time at west rim of grand canyon. John did a great job as our guide and James made sure we arrived safely. This tour was a really good value when you consider entrance fees, meals and gas to get to the park. I was a bit disappointed with the pit stop as the gas station they chose was very expensive. Also disappointed we could not take cameras on the Skywalk but this has nothing to do with the tour company. There's a bit of walking on this tour but no long hikes. If you want a hike, go to the south rim. That said the views were awesome and worth the amount we paid for the tour. Read more Written April 25, 2024

Moscow: City Sightseeing by Car/Bus

Visiting a new city is akin to going on a first date, it is something you will never forget. Many people imagine Moscow as just a bunch of sporadic landmarks: Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum and GUM. There is so much more to this wonderful city than that and even though we only have a few hours, we will do all we can to show you everything we know and love about our capital in one fell swoop. We will take you on a journey through the ages, from centuries ago, right up to the modern day, soaking in the sights of this vast and bustling metropolis. Bright, luxurious and both ancient and modern at the same time, Moscow invites you on a date you’ll never forget!

On our sightseeing bus tour of the city, you will see:

  • The wonderfully historic city centre and its unique museums, magnificent cathedrals, the exquisite Chambers of the Romanov Boyars and of course, the famous towering red brick walls of the Kremlin, The charming beauty of the Alexander Garden awaits the capital's guests - a lush green oasis in the midst of the glass and concrete clad metropolis, basking in the etherial aura emanating from the whitewashed stone walls of the restored Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the world- renowned fairytale onion domes of St. Basil's Cathedral and other impressive monumental buildings such as the library built in Lenin's honour - the Russian State Library - and the State Duma.
  • The Lubyanka KGB headquarters is notorious to members of older generations and although nowadays, the face of the secret police has changed dramatically, the looming enigmatic building on the waterfront maintains its aura of mystery, shrouded in a variety of murky rumours and dark myths. Then, there’s another of Moscow's main attractions - the marvellous Bolshoi Theatre, yew simply cant leave Moscow without taking in its breathtaking architecture. Engrained in the fabric of Russia's cultural heritage, virtuoso performers such as prima ballerina Galina Ulanova, opera singer Feodor Chaliapin and pianist, composer and conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff once stood centre stage of this vaunted institution.
  • The memorial complex on Poklonnaya Hill was constructed in the glory and honour of our heroes who defended our nation in the many crucial battles of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This is a place that embodies a particularly acute and inextricable link between older ancf younger generations. Moving on to the Moscow International Business Centre, not dubbed ‘Moscow City' for nothing, a true glimpse of the future in the present. This incredible, rather jaw-dropping project in the capital has shown that Moscow has come to accept the age of the skyscraper. Finally, the stunning views from the observation deck at Sparrow Hills will leave professional and amateur photographers alike itching to capture them. How could one resist?

The most beautiful of all the world's cities - lady Moscow invites you out on a date!
