The Broadway Phenomenon
The biggest Broadway show since The Book of Mormon has hit the road on its first ever national tour! Written by Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winner Lin Manuel Miranda, Hamilton is a true landmark of American culture, tearing up the musical theatre rulebook with a score that is equal parts Sondheim and Notorious B.I.G., and a cast of ethnically diverse actors in the roles of the Founding Fathers. The story centers on Alexander Hamilton, one of our most important (and colorful) characters, who rose from his humble orphaned beginnings to play a major role in making America the country it is today.
Hamilton made its New York debut Off-Broadway at the Public Theater in 2015, where it was met with universal acclaim and was extended three times due to public demand. It lost none of its potency in the subsequent Broadway transfer, with Ben Brantley of the New York Times writing it was "changing the language of musicals". President Obama himself deemed it good enough for not one but two visits! In 2016, it won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and scooped 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and many more! In 2018, it swept up the Olivier Awards bagging seven of their record breaking 11 nominations, including Best New Musical.
WHAT IS HAMILTON ABOUT?
One of the Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton's story is an extraordinary one. Born out of wedlock in the West Indies, and orphaned by the time he was 11, he arrived in New Jersey in 1772 to begin his grammar school education. From there he played a major role in the American revolutionary war, rising through the ranks to become an aide to George Washington. But that was only the beginning of the great man's story, with the proceeding chapters in his life taking in everything from sex scandals, fatal duels and the creation of the American Constitution.
Did You Know?
Hamilton didn't just conquer the stage, it took over the airwaves too! Its Grammy-winning Cast Recording was the highest charting album of its kind since 1963!

Hamilton is a smash Broadway musical unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. At this point, it’s impossible not to have heard of this world famous production. Since it made its Broadway debut in 2017, the love for the musical has spread all over the world. The talented Lin-Manuel Miranda perfected its music, lyrics, and book, making an outstanding blend of hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and Broadway. To be honest, when you walk out of the theatre, you wouldn’t be able to get some of the songs out of your head! With a whopping 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify (more than any musical ever!), it’s safe to say that Hamilton is indeed a cult classic with catchy tunes.
“I am loath to tell people to mortgage their houses and lease their children to acquire tickets to a hit Broadway show. But Hamilton […] might just about be worth it,” says Ben Brantley of The New York Times about Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ground-breaking Broadway production – he’s just one of the hundreds of critics who can’t stop raving about this show! If you haven’t seen Hamilton yet, now is the time to do so. If you’ve seen the production in the past, then you now that this is one of the very few Broadway productions worth coming back to.
“Yes, Hamilton is that good, and the still youthful Lin-Manuel Miranda can be mentioned in the same sentence with Sondheim and even Cole Porter.” – The Wrap
“the hottest ticket in town… hamilton has only grown as a phenomenon with its move to broadway.” – broadwayworld.com, “miranda’s demonstration of talent, skill and savvy earn him a well-deserved gold star, and a goldmine too.” – huffington post.
Hamilton has been an absolute hit right from the start. It had its debut Off-Broadway on February 17, 2015, at the Public Theater in Lower Manhattan. In the previews, Lin-Manuel Miranda played the lead role of Alexander Hamilton – and it’s as amazing as you can imagine. It ended up scoring eight Drama Desk Awards, including the coveted Outstanding Musical title. At the 70th Tony Awards, Hamilton made history with a whopping 16 nominations and secured 11 awards, including the prestigious Best Musical. It’s worth mentioning that the musical also received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2016.
The trend-setting musical didn’t stop there. The Chicago production of Hamilton began wowing audiences at the CIBC Theatre in September 2017 before opening officially the following month. Across the pond in London, the West End production made its debut at the Victoria Palace Theatre on December 2017. After some December previews, it ended up winning seven Olivier Awards in 2018, including the title of Best New Musical. The show also embarked on multiple national tours in the U.S., the first one starting in March 2017, followed by a second tour in February 2018. Then, in January 2019, the third U.S. tour kicked off with a three-week stop in Puerto Rico, where Lin-Manuel Miranda himself reprised his role as Hamilton. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, the musical’s international reach expanded too! The first non-English production made waves in Hamburg in October 2022 after being translated into German.
“electrifying adaptation… a Broadway musical destined for the record books.” – Deadline
“if only every history lesson — and broadway musical — dazzled so completely.” – ny daily news, “there has been nothing on broadway in the past 20 years to rival the riveting, exhilarating and haunting hamilton” – usa today.
The production is a fully sung-and-rapped dramatic portrayal of Alexander Hamilton’s life. It depicts his journey as he navigates the world and becomes a pivotal figure in the American Revolution. Hamilton engages in conversations about revolution at a local pub with friends, including the Marquis de Lafayette, offers innovative ideas for a new government as a delegate during the Constitutional Convention, and takes on the role of the first Secretary of the Treasury for the emerging nation. Throughout the narrative, Hamilton is portrayed both as a proactive agent and a victim of political intrigues, involved in the nation’s inaugural major political scandal and persevering through various adversities. Additionally, the production delves into themes of love, portraying Hamilton’s courtship of his wife, Eliza, and the complex dynamics of his relationship with her sister, Angelica.
Upon the movie’s premiere on Disney+, the New York Times wrote another rave review for the famed musical. “Hamilton is a brilliant feat of historical imagination, which isn’t the same as a history lesson. Miranda used Ron Chernow’s dad-lit doorstop the way Shakespeare drew on Holinshed’s Chronicles — as a treasure trove of character, anecdote and dramatic raw material. One of the marvels of the show is the way it brings long-dead, legend-shrouded people to vivid and sympathetic life. The close-ups and camera movements in this version enhance the charisma of the performers, adding a dimension of intimacy that compensates for the lost electricity of the live theatrical experience.”
“Hamilton is the best and most important Broadway musical of the past decade.” – Wallstreet Journal
“about young rebels grabbing and shaping the future of an unformed country, hamilton is changing the language of musicals.” – new york times, “it is a revolution: a reclaiming of america’s founding story by a multicultural cast using modern music and themes.” – associated press.
So, join the show when it arrives at The Hobby Center in Houston, Texas! This opportunity doesn’t arrive often; grab the chance while you can. Be sure to secure your tickets to the show before it’s too late! Click ‘GET TICKETS’ right now to secure your passes to the show.
