Many will gasp at the premium price tag, but we were amazed to see how much more centred our strikes were with Honma’s Vizard FP-65 shaft kept in the same place after we tweaked the loft down to 9°. There’s clearly merit in its design and one we’d urge you to try should a driver upgrade be on the cards in 2019.
Classy, understated looks at address combine with a solid, explosive feel and above-average performance comparable with the very best drivers, helped by multiple adjustability systems.
Unique adjustability system is complicated to understand and implement and comes with a super-premium price tag.

Honma TWorld747 460 Driver Review
For the then World No.1 Justin Rose to make the switch to this brand and model at the peak of his powers suggested there had to be something in the Honma TWorld747 460 driver. Now that we have experienced it ourselves, we would have to agree.
From an innovation stand point, it’s ahead of its time. Certainly when it comes to Honma’s unique adjustability system that allows face, loft and lie angle to be adjusted while keeping the spine of the shaft in the same place for more consistency.
There are also 9g and 2.5g sole weights that can be swapped to alter the ball flight and fangs hidden behind the top and bottom of the face that absorb and retain energy to maximize ball speeds.
RELATED: Best Drivers Of 2019
Looks Perfect for those who like simplicity, at address there are zero distractions – no alignment mark, just a large, inviting and slightly shiny dark profile and a light silver face that effectively highlights where the face is pointing.
Feel/Sound There’s an undeniable appeal about the sensations experienced when the ball comes off the clubface. It feels hot, stable and powerful in equal measure, with a pleasing sound that is neither too loud nor understated.
Performance Testing on the Foresight Sports GCQuad launch monitor against our favourite Ping G410 Plus driver , the TWorld747 matched it in every department. Even with a slightly softer Honma shaft, we found the ‘low spin’ set-up (9g weight forward) to actually spin too low at just over 1700 rpm, so by moving the heavier sole weight back we achieved more appropriate spin numbers around the 2000rpm mark while also increasing the clubhead’s forgiveness.
Ball speeds were high, nearly identical with the Ping G410, often exceeding it. This could be because we found the sweetspot of the Honma easier to find.
This will encourage all levels of player. It then comes down to the loft and shaft combination – a crucial factor when trying to optimize the flight and one that must be done by a trusted Honma fitter as the shaft matrix and complex adjustability system requires specialist knowledge.
It uses a special tool that, once the screw has been loosened with a specialist wrench, can twist to alter the lie, loft and face angle while keeping the shaft in the same place. Honma say the benefits of this include a more consistent strike pattern and overall performance. Looking at the instruction manual, it's difficult to know for sure which position applies to which setting, which is why it's best left to the professionals.
But go through that process, and we’re certain you’ll eek out some extra yards.

Honma TW747 Driver Review
- by Golf Reviews Guide Team
- January 1, 2019 April 10, 2023
The Honma TW747 driver was released at the end of 2018 and blends cutting edge technology and design.
The driver, one of the clubs the Japanese manufacturer hopes can help it make a mark across the globe, is part of a brand new TWorld 747 ranges which also includes fairway woods, irons and wedges.
The TW747 driver will be used by new Honma ambassador Justin Rose, who has signed a 10-year deal with the manufacturer as the world number two switches from TaylorMade.
What Honma say about the TW747 Driver:
The new TWorld747 series is truly a world-first, which combines distance innovation and supreme craftsmanship,” said Alejandro Sanchez, General Manager of Honma Golf Europe.
“ The non-rotating spine system in the driver is brand-new technology and the distance benefits will be obvious from the first swing.
“The new TWorld747 range means golfers can now experience the luxury artistry and premium performance that Honma Golf has to offer, at an affordable price.
“ We wanted to push the innovation boundaries further and provide golfers of all abilities with a club range that will truly improve their distances and maintain a superior aesthetic. “
Honma TW747 Driver Specs & Design
The TW747 driver from Honma comes in two models, the 455 and 460 with the focus of both being to provide “Real Distance”.
The TWorld 747 driver is being described as having the world’s lightest carbon crown. The sole of the clubhead, meanwhile, is a tungsten construction and helps lower the centre of gravity.
The combined design elements, coupled with the new 4 Fang Technology which sees four metal studs placed strategically in the face to strengthen it, help produce the highest ball speeds and longest distance Honma has ever offered.
The TW747 comes with an adjustable hosel that can change loft, lie and face angle without changing the position of the shaft itself. The ground-breaking Proprietary Adjustability System is one of the key design technology features of the driver.
Verdict: Is the Honma TW747 driver any good?
Honma is name that some golfers won’t be too familiar with, but the capture of Justin Rose will really help thrust the brand into the limelight in 2019 and beyond.
The Honma TW747 driver will be one of the key products in helping achieving more of a global footprint.
The TW747 is as adjustable as things come and golfers will look just how flexible it is with loft, lie and face angle all options to change to get the setup perfect for your needs.
The two models give you different options. The 455 is smaller in size, but comes with a weight system to help produce higher ball speeds and is the one for golfers seeking to extract more distance. The 460 model is slightly larger, more forgiving and the weights in this model are interchangeable depending on shot shape.
At a very competitive price in the drivers sector, the TW747 is worth considering as a 2019 option to add to the bag. If Rose produces the goods, expect them to start flying off the shelves.

Thanks for the replies, I should have mine by the weekend and hoping to be able to get out on the course next weekend
I think the original post was for the TW 747 not the new TR20. I had the TW747 and it was really good, however it was not optimized due to the stock shaft. If there were more custom options for the TW 747 460 it would have stayed in the bag. I think they have fixed it with the TR20
Was able to get out and play with the Honma TW 747 this weekend. Vary solid driver and picked up about 10 yards on my old Taylormade M3 and didn't lose any accuracy. Played 9 holes on Sat and hit 5 of 7 fairways. Can't wait for the summer and the end of COVID 19 to play a lot of golf.

Honma TWorld Driver 455 vs. 460 Comparison
In this test we take a look at the two versions of the Honma TWorld driver . This driver is available in the 460 and in the 455 cubic version. The latter is clearly smaller and only an option for very good players. The 455 Driver also has a different position of the weight screws. It has only one weight screw which is mounted in the toe area of the head. This means that the driver has a clear fade tendency. For players with a slice this is of course a disaster. For players who play the ball rather too much with Draw, however, a real option.
Our setup for the test
Our player should swing between 100 and 101mph, which leads to a ball speed of about 145mph and a carry length of 220m. These stats are a little faster and farther than average. For the test we installed the FD-6 Stiff shaft, which already convinced in other tests in terms of performance and is used as a heavier and harder version by Justin Rose, among others.
The test results at one glance
The smash factor was identical to 1.44 and our player hit the ball very consistently. However, differences show up relatively quickly (455 on the left and 460 on the right):
- Ballspeed 144,7 vs. 145,4mph
- Launch Angle 9.4 vs. 10.8°.
- Spin 2596 vs. 2379 rpm
- Total length 240 vs. 244
In short, the 460 Driver develops more ball speed, a higher launch angle, less spin and a longer overall length. The latter is mainly due to the steeper flight path and slightly less spin.
As you can easily see from the following overview, the ball flight with the 460 Driver tended rather to the left, the 455 Driver was on average very much straight and also showed less dispersion.
Our interpretation of the result
This test shows very clearly what manufacturer Honma actually wants to achieve. The 455 head is supposed to provide more precision and it is allowed to sacrifice some length. Honma is well aware that the smaller head volume has a negative effect on the distance. But this head is also not for players who want to optimize their length.
The 200rpm more spin helps to control the ball better even if it affects the length.
The flatter launch has less to do with the size of the head than with the different weight distribution. The 455 Driver has a flatter trajectory with a fade tendency.
455 or 460 - which is better?
There is no "better" in this test. Honma has done a first-class job with the two driver heads and with this test we were able to show exactly what the manufacturer promises. The 460 head is the standard model and should be preferred. The 455 Driver is a bit special, especially for players who need more precision from the tee, who don't mind losing some length and have to compensate too much draw. These are e.g. players with 115mph head speed and more, with a swing direction of 4° and more from the inside, so a clear draw. For this special type of player the 455 Driver may be a very good choice. Otherwise we would recommend the 460 Driver. This maximizes length with very low spin values.

Honma Tour World TW747 Driver Review
Honma Tour World TW747 Driver Review – Honma has been making high end golf clubs for nearly 60 years, but outside of Japan they are a brand that is not widely known. However recent expansion overseas and the signing of Justin Rose has propelled them into the western consciousness and the Tour World range is one you are going to hear a lot more about.
Leading the way as always is the driver and the TW747 comes in two models, the 455 and the 460.
Callaway Big Bertha B21 Driver
- Looks fantastic
- Adjustability is easy to understand and use
As usual in these cases, the two models create different launch characteristics, with the deeper TW747 460 having a centrally located rear weight for more launch and a little more draw bias.
The model I was sent for testing was the more compact and toe weighted TW747 455, which has all the same features in a lower spinning package.
At address the 455 has more of a toe heavy look about it, with a clean crown that does not have an alignment device.
The ribbed carbon crown is made from Toray ET40 carbon fibre, which enables Honma to create the thinnest and lightest carbon crown to date.
The ribs on the inside are positioned to maximise strength and create optimum deflection at impact.
Inside the Ti6-4 titanium head there are two pairs of ‘fangs’ that are positioned at the top and bottom of the face to increase the rigidity of the face in these locations. This enables more of the face to be at the legal limit for greater ball speed and more forgiveness.
The Vizard shaft is designed specifically for this head, right down to the orientation of the spine of the graphite shaft for optimum performance.
This is known as shaft alignment or puring and the idea is to place the dominant spine of the club on the bottom of the shaft when the club is at address, in order to improve consistency, accuracy and performance.
Some manufacturers believe in this and some don’t, but in my experience it does improve the performance of a graphite shaft, so I always get it done on my clubs.
However with most adjustable hosels, the shaft position cannot be retained as you adjust it and then you have to get a professional to adjust the hosel connector to align the shaft to your optimum setting.
Honma has solved this by creating the innovatively titled Non-Rotating System for you to keep the shaft in the same orientation whilst varying the loft by +/- 1°, the lie by by +/- 2° and the face angle by by +/- 1.5°.
It’s not the most intuitive system and is one of the few times I have actually had to read the instruction book to figure our how to use it and what the letters, dots and dashes around the hosel mean.
Basically you align the line on the shaft with the line on the head on the back of the hosel.
Then you pick the setting you want and use the Angle Adjustment Bit (yes, that’s its name) to hold the screw of the Angle Adjustment Unit in place by lining up the two lines.
Then you put the wrench through the Bit and tighten it up.
It does take a few goes to perfect this technique as the Bit does want to move around as you tighten the wrench. However if you hold everything in the official position described in the instruction book, then it will work.
Whilst this is all very clever and does the job, it can take some time, especially if you are trying to get a specific setting. However it should only need to be done once, so is it worth all the effort?
I took my life in my hands, literally, and played around with the settings on GC2 with Titleist Pro V1x balls and the results were as follows.
The standard setting on the 9.5° head gave some decent numbers, but the spin was quite high and the launch a bit low. Adjusting it to the OP open setting reduced the loft by 1° and opened the face by 1.5°. This did reduce the spin by 300 rpm, but the launch went down too.
Changing to the CL position increased the loft by 0.5° and closed the face by 0.75° and had the desired effect. Launch was up 1° on the standard setting, with the spin down 300 rpm, giving an extra 11 yards carry.
So, if you can persevere and get custom fitted then you can see the extra performance you can get when you get the launch/spin recipe right.
Honma Tour World TW747 455 Driver Verdict
As a technical product the Honma is very high spec and you can see and feel the quality.
The colour scheme may not be to everyone’s taste, but with the higher profile on tour and the premium price position, the Honma brand does have that buzz about it just now.
The Vizard shaft was great and at 50g really contributed to the lightweight feel to help you increase the clubhead speed.
On the course the sound was maybe a little on the hollow side and didn’t really match up to the price point. However the distance performance was right up there with the best drivers from the main brands.
The 455 might be the one for most single figure to mid handicap golfers as it was quite a neutral head despite the toe weight position.
The two different head lofts of 9.5 and 10.5 mean that you can accommodate most swing profiles with the adjustable hosel.
So is it worth it?
On the downside the sound could be better, the hosel is fiddly to adjust and it’s expensive.
On the plus side the TW747 driver is forgiving with good distance, is well designed with quality materials, the hosel keeps the shaft aligned and it has the reflected glory of that premium brand positioning.
Depending on which if these is important to you, the Homna TW747 driver is a worthy contender for your Tour World.

What we say...
To celebrate its 55th anniversary year, Japanese clubmaker Honma – which famously makes all of its clubs and graphite shafts in a single giant design and production studio in northern Japan – has resurrected one of its former brands, Tour World.
The hand-crafted clubs is aimed at better players and serious golfers.
Tour World is designed with clean lines, and represents a step away from some of Honma’s more ornate-looking clubheads seen in previous models. All clubs represent the pinnacle of Honma’s 55 years of experience in hand-making golf equipment.
There are three shaft options and head sizes for the forged Titanium Tour World TW717 drivers. The first is 460cc head with a larger sweetspot and shallow-back design for a high launch. The 455cc head is a classic deep-faced shape made of a different forged titanium and features heel-toe weights to keep the face squarer at impact. While the 430cc version (right) comes in a matt-black finish aimed at the better player with higher swing speeds looking for workability as well as distance.
Specifications: 460cc and 455cc drivers in 9.5° and 10.5°, 430cc in 8.5°, 9.5° and 10.5°. RRPs: £895 (Honma VIZARD shaft), £950 (2-star ARMRQ8 shaft) and £5,095 (5-star spec). Website: www.honma.co.uk

Honma TW757 VX Irons Review
More in reviews:.
50 Words or Less
The Honma TW757 VX irons feel sensational. Great players look. More forgiveness than you would expect from an iron that looks and feels like this. Ample spin to shape shots and hold greens.
Introduction
The term “multi-material construction” calls to mind golf clubs that look like they came out of Tony Stark’s lab. Honma doesn’t believe that needs to be the case, using advanced construction methods in an iron that is absolutely beautiful. Is the Honma TW757 VX a beauty and a beast all in one? I tested a set to find out.
To my eye, the address look of the Honma TW757 VX irons is perfect. Every element hits the sweet spot – the top line, the offset, and the blade length . There are certainly smaller irons for the butter knife crew, but these are perfect to me.
In the bag, the TW757 VX irons have a classy, traditional appearance . There’s minimal engraving – just a Honma logo on the toe, “Forged” in the middle of the cavity, and “TW757 VX” near the bottom, all with black paint fill. The shape of the cavity is modern without being futuristic.
One detail that the eagle-eyed will catch is that the 4-8 irons are distinct from the 9, PW, and GW. The longer irons have a tungsten weight in the toe that’s indicated by a circle below the number on the sole. It’s a subtle difference that many won’t even notice in the bag.
Sound & Feel
The Honma TW757 VX irons are forged from S20S carbon steel. Combine that with the Nippon Modus shafts – one of the best feeling steel shafts, in my opinion – and you have the recipe for feel that is sensational . To me, this is the best impact feel of any irons I’ve tested this year. On center, it’s soft without being mushy, solid without being crisp or clicky. What makes it interesting is that as soft as it is, impact feels very quick. It doesn’t have that “heavy on the face” or “ball melts into the face” sensation, but it’s still immensely satisfying.
Feedback is also excellent . Mishits are firmer than pure strikes, but they never get harsh. Impact is quiet regardless of location, so the audio feedback is minimal. After spending a little time with these irons, you’ll develop a keen sense of exactly where the ball met the face.
Finally, there is no noticeable change in feel between the irons with and without tungsten. The long and mid irons are every bit as satisfying to hit as the short irons.
Performance
The purpose behind the Honma TW757 VX’s multi-material construction is to bring more forgiveness to a players iron . With a seven gram tungsten weight in the toe of the 4-8 irons, they do just that. While this is still unmistakably a player’s set, it’s not going to punish small misses. Hitting the ball slightly toward the heel or toe should still result in a green in regulation.
Interestingly, despite the lofts being stronger than the TR20 V irons [review HERE ], the TW757 VX irons produce plenty of spin . In fact, they’re above average in spin, making them a great choice for those that want to shape their shots. I also found that these irons gave me a great deal of control over trajectory. The stronger lofts do bias them toward a lower flight, but it was easy to launch them higher when desired.
The blend of stronger launch angles with a little more spin creates distances that are in line with most players irons . I was hitting the TW757 VX irons about the same distances as my gamers but with a little more spin. That extra spin will be really useful in firm conditions or, again, for players that want to see the ball curve in the air.
Finally, Honma did a great job with the sole of the TW757 VX irons. They refer to it as a “Tour-approved” sole profile. I found that it balanced protection against digging with the ability to pinch the ball off tight lies . Second to the impact feel, the turf interaction was my favorite thing about these clubs and another reason why I found them addictive to hit .
Through the first half of 2022, the Honma TW757 VX irons are at the top of my list for players irons . They pack in more forgiveness than you can reasonably demand from an iron this compact, and the distance and spin are excellent. Moreover, they’re incredibly fun to hit. They have world-class feel, and they make me want to stay on the range shaping shots until the sun sets.

These sound awesome, but as a low spin player I’m worried about the lower lofts. Also, I see a 2° loft gap between the pitching wedge and the gap wedge – is that right? What is the reason for that?
I didn’t get the GW to test, so I can’t speak to that part. Regarding the spin, as I said in the review, these spin more than average in spite of the lofts.
That is super strange. Never seen anything like it in a stock set.
Thanks for the review. How would you compare the size/appearance and playability to Ping’s iBlade? Haven’t come across a close comp to the iBlade to this point.
I don’t have an iBlade in hand for side by side comparison, but my recollection is that they’re similar in size. As far as forgiveness, again, I’d say they’re pretty close.
How much longer are these compared to the tr20v?
I didn’t run the two head to head, so I can’t say. Also, that answer is going to vary from person to person based on swing, launch conditions, etc.
These do look great; like they hit that middle ground of forgiving players iron. It does seem like you would definitely need another GW with those lofts.
Thanks for what turned out to be a flattering, eye opening review, Matt. Honma took a jolt when Justin Rose left them at the altar, but they’ve always had a good rep for quality. What would interest me, as a more senior player, is how the Vizard Graphite shaft performs for guys who do not “load” a shaft with as much force as you and other stronger players who prefer a steel shaft. Thanks, Steve
Hey Matt, How would you compare TR20 V irons? I am currently playing a combo set of Jpx 919 tour/forged.
I have a full review of the TR20 V here: https://pluggedingolf.com/honma-tr20-v-irons-review/
Thanks Matt, Are these similar to the reviewed 747 V? Who sells them? I have 747v in the bag with modus 120 and can’t find a better feel or turf interaction, but toe misses go a little too short. Tried the pxg P but too much between me and the ball…
As always, thanks! You are an invaluable resource to us all Bob
Yes, they’re similar. Club Champion generally carries Honma. If they don’t have the new models in yet, they should soon.
Thanks for the review. Are the numbers for the club lofts correct? I see a 4-degree change from 8 to 9 iron, then a 6-degree jump from 9-iron to PW — a crucially large interval in the range where most better golfers are debating what club to pull. And then we see only a 2-degree change from PW to GW. Why that? At 45 degrees, the GW has less loft than many high-end pitching wedges. If these are right, the lofts seem to be geared for short hitters who need all the distance they can get at the expense of carrying a lot of wedges. These clubs strike me as well-designed for the market of enthusiastic country-club players in Japan, most of whom play sparingly but enjoy using really nice, high-status clubs. The lofts, as indicated, seem out-of-sync for the U.S. market of better players. I’ll bet Honma adjusts those lofts for this market — and possibly the club lengths as well.
The lofts on our spec sheet were taken directly from the Honma website.
As I understand it the gap wedge is listed as AW (approach wedge) or 11 iron and is 49 degrees.
The lofts I saw listed on the Honma site were: 4i 21°, 5i 24°, 6i 27°, 7i 30°, 8i 34°, 9i 38°, 10i/PW 43°, 11i/GW 49° It must’ve been a typo that’s since been corrected on the manufacturers site. I’m definitely not an expert, but there’d be no reason for a 2° gap differential between the PW & GW.
Thanks for another great review, Matt. In your experience did the TW757 VX or the Mizuno Pro 223 perform better? If you could only have one which would you choose?
It’s splitting hairs, but I would give the smallest of edges to the Mizuno. I could be very happy with either set.
How do these compare to the P770s? I like my 2021 P770s, but would occasionally like a little more forgiveness. These are on sale at Costco and I have been interested in them, but cannot find much on the 757 VS.
I have a full review of the P770 here for comparison: https://pluggedingolf.com/2023-taylormade-p770-irons-review/
I read that as well, and it was great! I was just wondering how these two compared to each other, such as is one more forgiving than the other?
I don’t have any head to head testing to directly compare the forgiveness.
FYI – costco is selling 5-PW with Nippon Modus 105 stiff for $999.99. Quite a discount if you’re in the market.
Great review Matt! Between the TR20V and TW757vx, which model actually has a bigger club face? The TR20V smaller head size seems intimidating at times… :)
To give you a definitive answer, I’d want to have them both in hand, which I do not. For what it’s worth, I didn’t find the 20V intimidatingly small.
How do these compare size and top line wise to the zx7?
My recollection is that they’re in the same ballpark.
Hi Matt, Thanks for the great review of the honma irons. I was thinking of buying them but only if they are longer than my current set. You wrote that are the same length with your current ones. How long was your strokes with the iron 7? A little bit more length would be great. Thanks a lot
I can comfortably carry my 7I around 165 yards.
Hi Matt. Thanks for the review. But most importantly, 10i will be missed 🥲

Performance Testing on the Foresight Sports GCQuad launch monitor against our favourite Ping G410 Plus driver, the TWorld747 matched it in every department. Even with a slightly softer Honma shaft, we found the 'low spin' set-up (9g weight forward) to actually spin too low at just over 1700 rpm, so by moving the heavier sole weight back we ...
The TWorld747 455 460 is designed using HONMA's Proprietary Adjustability System. HONMA say this technology allows golfers to adjust the loft of the club to create their desired shot shape without rotating the spine of the shaft to improve both ball flight and distance. The crown of the TWorld747 driver is crafted from an extremely light ET40 ...
The TW747 driver from Honma comes in two models, the 455 and 460 with the focus of both being to provide "Real Distance". The TWorld 747 driver is being described as having the world's lightest carbon crown. The sole of the clubhead, meanwhile, is a tungsten construction and helps lower the centre of gravity.

One of them is the Tour World 747 Driver which can be bought for 629€. At least with the Vizard TW747 standard shaft. The FD-6S shaft is one of the many other shafts on offer, for which another 150€ surcharge is due. Posted March 31, 2020. Quote.

However, differences show up relatively quickly (455 on the left and 460 on the right): Ballspeed 144,7 vs. 145,4mph. Launch Angle 9.4 vs. 10.8°. Spin 2596 vs. 2379 rpm. Total length 240 vs. 244. In short, the 460 Driver develops more ball speed, a higher launch angle, less spin and a longer overall length.
Honma Tour World TW747 455 Driver Verdict. As a technical product the Honma is very high spec and you can see and feel the quality. The colour scheme may not be to everyone's taste, but with the higher profile on tour and the premium price position, the Honma brand does have that buzz about it just now. The Vizard shaft was great and at 50g ...
The Honma Tour World TW737 Drivers come in four models: the 460, 455, 450 and 445. The model numbers reflect the size (cc) of the clubheads. Each model comes with a choice of two stock shaft options: Honma's own Vizard shaft, in either Type-A (firmer middle and butt, softer tip, three weight options) or Type-Z (firmer middle and tip, softer butt, three weight options).
Looks. Admittedly, the looks of the Honma TW737 445 driver are fairly plain and lack flash, but the simplicity will be appealing to traditionalists . At address, the TW737 445 has a very deep face with a compact pear shape. Flip the club over and the sole is a polished silver with minimal branding.

The Tour World (TW) 747 product line from Honma is predicated on providing explosive distance through high ball speeds and low spin for golfers. Specifically, the TW747 455 driver is packed with a plethora of technologies in both its clubhead and its stock shafts that are designed to increase swing speed and, therefore, distance.

The forged construction of the Honma TW 747 V and the traditional look set my expectations high for the feel of impact. These irons delivered with a soft, traditional feel . There's no springy, explosive feeling here; the ball melts into the face. Another traditional element of these irons is that the feedback is unmistakable.
Conclusion. Through the first half of 2022, the Honma TW757 VX irons are at the top of my list for players irons . They pack in more forgiveness than you can reasonably demand from an iron this compact, and the distance and spin are excellent. Moreover, they're incredibly fun to hit.
