Reynolda Holiday Season Begins Nov. 14; Tickets for Tours & Events On Sale Now

Winston-Salem, N.C.—This holiday, step back in time to 1917 with a visit to Reynolda. The gardens, village, and house that comprise the historic estate of R.J. and Katharine Reynolds will be decorated for the season and offer a variety of experiences for the whole family. Visitors will experience Christmas as the Reynolds family did that first year, with decorations, performances, and activities that recall the era.

Reynolda House, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, presents a window into a grand moment of the city’s history, but never more so than during the holidays. Furnishings in the house are nearly 85 percent original, and together with a recreation of holiday decorations —multiple wreathes and ornamented Christmas trees, swags of fresh garlands, and hand-stamped Christmas cards, all researched from the family archives — visitors will experience the Reynoldses’ own 1917 holiday. The home is decorated starting Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Holidays at Reynolda includes house tours, shopping days, performances, overnight packages and many family activities. Tickets and information for all events available at reynoldahouse.org/holidays.

Reynolda Village Holiday Stroll – Saturday, Nov. 17, 5-8 p.m . The boutiques and streets of the Village come alive for the holidays during this evening event featuring carriage rides, hot beverages and cookies. Enjoy the music of the Carolers of Christmas Past and plan a special visit with Santa Claus while you shop for the season.

Caroling Fridays – Fridays, Nov. 24 – Dec. 21, 2:45 p.m. Museumgoers are invited to assemble around the historic Aeolian organ in Reynolda House every Friday afternoon for singing with friends old and new. Caroling Fridays are included in the museum admission; no reservations or caroling experience required.

Wreath Workshop – Nov. 27 and Dec. 4 The staff of Reynolda Gardens will lend a helping hand to create holiday wreaths. Each participant in the workshop will receive a large, natural wreath along with an assortment of decorations. Pruners and gloves are encouraged. Admission is $40 for general admission. Price includes supplied materials. Registration and payment are required by December 1. Please call the Education Office at 336.758.3485 to register.

How Greeting Cards Went to War – Saturday, Dec. 1, 2 p.m. For the last 100 years, when America has gone to war, so have greeting cards. This lecture by scholar Anne O’Donnell will explore how cards’ verses and images, and papers and inks combined to paint a vivid picture of wartime life as experienced at Reynolda, across the United States and by troops overseas. Tickets are $20 and include museum admission.

Family First: Holiday Tour and Cardmaking Workshop – Sunday, Dec. 2, 2-4 p.m. This annual workshop for elementary school-aged children and their families offers an opportunity to learn about holiday stories at Reynolda while making one-of-a-kind cards on the printing press with the museum’s hand-carved stamps. Admission is $15 and includes materials. Advance purchased required. Limited spots are available.

Christmas 1917 Tours – afternoon and evening tours available Costumed actors playing the role of a Reynolda butler, governess, schoolteacher and holiday partygoer will guide visitors through all four floors of the 30,000 square foot, 64-room mansion.

Day tours are scheduled for Tuesday afternoons, Dec. 4, 11, and 18, between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Evening tours, when the lights are dimmed and the house is aglow, are scheduled for two nights only: Dec. 7 and 8, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tours will depart every fifteen minutes. Admission is $25 per person; children under the age of five are free. Advance purchase is required.

Visits with Santa – Saturdays, Dec. 8 and 15, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Make sure that Santa knows your Christmas wishes! Visits with Santa in the shops of Reynolda Village are free; please bring your own camera.

“A Christmas Memory” – Sunday, Dec. 16, 4 p.m. The annual reading of Truman Capote’s classic short story, “A Christmas Memory,” has become a holiday tradition for many locals and is always a sell-out. Arrive early to see the museum decorated for Christmas. Admission is $20 and includes museum admission. Advance purchased is encouraged.

Carolina Brass Holiday Pops Concert – Tuesday, Dec. 18, 7 p.m. This fun-filled performance will feature seasonal favorites by the Carolina Brass. Tickets are $20, and advance purchase is encouraged.

Historic Holiday Travel Package – Reynolda House is partnering with The Graylyn Estate to offer overnight packages for the holiday season. In addition to beautiful accommodations, complimentary breakfast, a welcome gift, and numerous other amenities, the packages include admission to Reynolda House and a butler’s tour of Graylyn. The unrivaled hospitality also features Mrs. Gray’s butterscotch cookies at bedtime.

About Reynolda Reynolda, in Winston-Salem, N.C., is a rare gem among the nation’s cultural institutions and historic greenspaces. The 51-year-old art museum at the center of Reynolda’s 180 acres, Reynolda House Museum of American Art, presents a renowned art collection in a historic and incomparable setting: the original 1917 interiors of the country manor of R. J. Reynolds. Spanning 250 years, the collection is an uncompromisingly selective one, a chronology of American art, with each artist represented by one work of major significance. Highlights are: Albert Bierstadt, Mary Cassatt, William Merritt Chase, Frederic Edwin Church, Stuart Davis, Martin Johnson Heade, Alex Katz, Lee Krasner, Jacob Lawrence, Georgia O’Keeffe, John Singer Sargent and Grant Wood. The collection was assembled by the unerring eye of Barbara Babcock Millhouse, granddaughter of R. J. and Katharine Reynolds. The Reynolda experience includes a free app called Reynolda Revealed; touring exhibitions in the museum’s Mary and Charlie Babcock Wing; formal gardens, conservatory and walking trails of Reynolda Gardens; and more than 25 of the estate’s original buildings repurposed as shops and restaurants in Reynolda Village. Reynolda, located at 2250 Reynolda Road, is adjacent to Wake Forest University. For more information, please visit reynolda.org. Connect at facebook.com/rhmaa and @CurateReynolda .

Bluesky at Home

Festive Christmas Home Tour for the Holidays

Is it too early to share Christmas inspiration? I hope not because today is all about Christmas ideas. I’m sharing a house full of Christmas – our festive Christmas home tour for the holidays.

Last year I shared our Christmas home tour – our entry, living room, and Sweet Shark’s bar – two days before Christmas. Not any time for you to use it as inspiration.

This year I’m sharing it early in hopes that some of the areas in our festive Christmas home tour will give you ideas.

These areas are what you would see and where you would spend your time if you were visiting our home. I’ll give you a peek in the dining room, too.

I switched up some things last year – some decorations are not in their traditional place. Things that are not typical Christmas decorations were pulled into the festive holiday decor.

Daily accessories that are not usually used for Christmas can definitely become some of your best holiday decorations.

So welcome to our home for a festive Christmas home tour. After a daytime tour, I’ll show you the house lit up at night. As you will see throughout our home tour, we have lights ~ both multi~colored and white ~ on anything that doesn’t move.

Festive Christmas Home Tour.

This festive Christmas home tour is part of the Celebrate the Holiday Blog Hop . My blogger friends and I are sharing a variety of fantastic Christmas ideas. We’re sharing early, giving you plenty of time to save and incorporate the ideas you love into your own Christmas decorating plans.

Celebrate the Holiday graphic

If you are visiting me from Kristin of White Arrows Home , then welcome to my home and the Celebrate the Holiday Blog Hop. (I love seeing what Kristin shares from her log cabin in the north woods.)

If you are visiting Bluesky at Home for the first time, I’m so happy you are here. I’d love to get to know you better. If you want to know more about me, please visit My Story . Let’s see what we have in common.

Now let’s get this Christmas home tour started.

Start at the Front Door

When you step into the entry, your 325˚view starts with our dining room on the left, the entry and staircase straight ahead, and Sweet Shark’s bar on your right.

A couple of weeks ago, I shared our plaid Christmas tablescape set for a dinner party. The table is still 75% set. Here’s the pretty table you would see as you stood in the entry.

red plaid bow tied on back of chair

The flocked garland on the vaisselier decked with white Santas and wreaths on the mirrors are the focal points.

Christmas Entry with New Accessories

I mixed things up on the entry commode this year.

  • The entry decor begins with drapped garland across the top of our entry mirror. You can’t see, but there are lights on the garland.
  • Last year, my most favorite DIY ornament wreath brightened our front door. This year, I decided to bring more color and light into the entry by hanging it on the mirror.
  • A white snowflake runner that was on the dining room table last year is drapped across the commode.
  • The new items I used as Christmas decorations were silver containers that we already had: 2 ice buckets, a champagne bucket, a mercury glass vase, and a wine carafe.
  • Three faux Christmas trees and several picks of greenery made to look like trees provide the Christmas tree look I wanted. All the trees have lights, of course.

entry with silver containers and greenery

I used red and green ribbon around the base of the trees to hide the paper stuffing. I also added some white pinecone picks.

hope house christmas tour

At the side of the commode, I filled my tall lantern with gold balls and topped it with a red sequined bow.

hope house christmas tour

The Christmas Banister

Other than having greenery and lights, the banister got a new look. I added a few new items:

  • Several of our Christmas “stuffed” creatures are on the banister.
  • Red check bows are at the bottom of both sides of the banister.
  • Yes, you can see a bit of the living room mantel.

In case you noticed the board across the staircase, that’s to keep Nola from going upstairs.

hope house christmas tour

  • I attached red, green and white ornaments to the staircase greenery in groups of three.
  • For the first timer ever, I hung our stockings on the front side of the banister. I thought this would be a fun change, both for the banister and the mantel.
  • You can see the small tree that we added in front of the banister, which is acutally in Sweet Shark’s bar.

hope house christmas tour

This tree holds most of the travel ornaments that we have collected on trips over the past 25 years. The tree skirt was originally on the tree at our previous home.

hope house christmas tour

Sweet Shark’s Bar

Moving to the right, we are in Sweet Shark’s bar. The curio cabinet holds some of our crystal glassware.

On the top of the curio is a green garland and four of our Mark Robert’s Elves.

hope house christmas tour

We added some of our Christmas figurines on the shelves.

hope house christmas tour

Our Christmas Lenox Holiday glasses ~white wine, red wine , highballs , and our newest addition ~ martini glasses ~ add the traditional holly and berries to the scene.

hope house christmas tour

The bar is the star. The bulk of our elves perches atop the bar back.

hope house christmas tour

On to the Living Room

On the other side of the staircase, I created a new vignette. Once again, I used one of my vintage boxes . Two of our larger Santas and a gold reindeer form a threesome.

hope house christmas tour

Another Santa wraps his legs around the garland wrapped around our candle stand.

hope house christmas tour

Moving into the living room, our mantel is always the focal point of Christmas decorations. With no stockings, I had room for garland, five Santas, and my felt garland.

You might remember the felt and felt ball garland that I made for the mantel.

On the hearth, I placed two twig reindeer. We have had them for years and they have been used in many places with different bows.

My favorite Christmas throw from Target rests in another vintage box.

hope house christmas tour

Above the mantel, we placed faux garland with a big bow across the top of the fireplace. A cypress wreath – sans bow – fills the center of the fireplace.

hope house christmas tour

I love the mix of wintery garland and the rustic look of the Santas.

hope house christmas tour

On the sofa table, more Santas, a vintage red truck, and a metal lantern with red candles create another Christmas vignette. I made the pillows a few years ago. The two red throws from Target originally were on our bed.

Throws and pillows always create a cozy atmosphere. At Christmas, they add wonderful color, texture, and pattern.

Nola and her squeaky bear jumped right in the middle of the picture. Isn’t she cute? This is her first Christmas.

hope house christmas tour

On our big picture window, we have a big wreath with lights and bows.

hope house christmas tour

On the coffee table, our Santa and reindeer sit on another red table runner. A large red vase holds a red candle surrounded by greenery and berries.

Squeaky bear is heels overhead about the festive Christmas home tour.

hope house christmas tour

My vintage ladder is a great place for plaid Christmas throws.

hope house christmas tour

Across from our seating area is our bookcase. It always gets a festive Christmas treatment. Santas, reindeer, and a tall snowman fill the bookshelves. Garland with lights and another red check bow top the bookcase.

More lights are there, but you can’t see them until nighttime.

hope house christmas tour

Bear, moose, and a rabbit painting contrast nicely with our blue planters and blue chinoiserie lamp.

hope house christmas tour

The Focal Point of the Pretty Christmas Home Tour

We have smaller Christmas trees throughout our home, but the one in the breakfast room is the biggest and prettiest. The breakfast room is the only place we have found in our home for the tree from Balsam Hill.

Like any Christmas tree, this one comes alive at night.

hope house christmas tour

Festive Christmas Home at Night

Christmas decor looks pretty during the day but takes on a magical quality at night. Discovering battery-operated fairy lights a few years ago completely changed how we decorate. Every year we add a few more BOLs and buy boxes and boxes of batteries.

TIP: buy your BOLs early and look for ones with timers .

Let the Christmas home tour at night begin. Again, we’ll start at the dining room, then move into the entry, the bar, and then into the living room.

There are lights on the wreaths on the mirror. They had not come on yet when I snapped this picture.

hope house christmas tour

The lighted entry is stunning. The board across the staircase is to keep Nola from going up the stairs.

lighted Christmas staircase

I do have to say something about the placement of the tree. Because of the three windows in the breakfast room, the tree lights are reflected. If you stand in the right place, you can see five trees. It also looks amazing from the outside.

festive lighted Christmas tree

We live in a charming country neighbourhood where we have had over 50 Christmas Ha llmark movies filmed. This Christmas we are coming together as neighbours to create a Christmas experience that will be like being inside a Hallmark movie - people can walk through the neighbourhood, see inside beautifully decorated homes, hear live Christmas music, visit Santa in a gazebo, climb up into an attic to discover a 52,000 piece Christmas LEGO train, get treats at a Christmas café and a Candy Cottage and do a QR code scavenger hunt to discover which movies the homes have been featured in.

W e’re doing this as neighbours to raise awareness about human trafficking and to help rescue people who have been enslaved - 100% of the proc eeds go to International Justice Mission.

The way our neighbourhood has come together to work for this cause is really heartwarming and a perfect story for for Christmas.

[Our New] Home for the Holidays // Christmas Home Tour 2021

Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

Welcome, welcome! I am back today with more of our Holiday Home! There is truly so much joy during the holiday season and here on the blog is no exception. I love joining other talented bloggers throughout the month of December to showcase our homes all dressed and ready for Christmas. It extra special this year because this will be our very first Christmas in our new home in Arizona. Come on in and have a look around at [Our New] Home for the Holidays – My Christmas Home Tour 2021 .

I’m thrilled to be a part of Marty from A Stroll Thru Life ‘s Holiday Home Tour Week again this year. A big thanks to her for rounding up such a lovely group of ladies and all of the work that goes into hosting a week of tours!

If you want to catch up on my Christmas Home Tours from year’s past, you can see them all here. And my Full Christmas Gallery here – filled with gift guides, decorating inspiration, recipes & more.

If you’re stopping by from Southern Hospitality, then welcome. I’m so glad you’re here! And if you are new to This is our Bliss, then hello! My name is Rachael and I’m the girl behind the lifestyle site where I share all things life, style and home. Speaking of home, we have a new one! In fact, my husband, 3 boys and I just moved from Illinois to Arizona in July of this year. So there are lots of “new” things in our lives.

You can check out our Farewell Tour here , our Empty house tour here and our Early Fall Home Tour here .

Although we got right down to business not too long after we moved in. We were busy working this Fall when I participated in the Fall One Room Challenge and refreshed our Kitchen & Family Room , We still have plenty more projects on the docket, but we’ve settled in nicely and I’m happy to report our house definitely feels like home now.

I don’t have many spaces fully up & running around here yet, but that wasn’t going to stop me from sprinkling some Christmas cheer throughout the house for us all to enjoy. After all, it’s still 80 degrees outside, so anything I can do to make it feel cozy & Christmas-y inside, might help us get in the holiday spirit. We’ll just pretend its cold & snowy outside while we sip our hot chocolate inside 😉

Now, come and take a look at how our Family Room shaped up for the holiday season.

Then I’ll share some snapshots of our Christmas Living Room & Our Outdoor Fireplace this season ICYMI!

OUR NEW HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS // CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR 2021

Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

The metallic touches and pops of red in the space really complement the dark color so well.

Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

I was nervous about going so dark at first, but now I can’t imagine having them any other way!

Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

Swapping out some décor & accessories on my newly styled shelves was fun. I planned to edit and remove more than I did, but ended up just adding the Christmas right on in! Usually, more is more in my book and that’s what I went with on the shelves. Especially on the right side when I basically pulled out every tree I could find and clustered them on the top shelf.

Family Room built-ins decorated for Christmas Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

This shelf full of shining, sparkling trees just makes me happy.

Family Room built-ins decorated for Christmas Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

Since we just spent time and money finishing this space, I opted to not spend much on new Christmas decorations. With the exception of the new pencil tree in the corner and some fresh flowers, I just used what I had. And other than the infinite amount of Christmas trees on the built-ins, I wanted a more simplistic Christmas vibe.

Family Room built-ins decorated for Christmas Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

Just a few pops of red and a glowing tree to accent and highlight the other aspects of the space.

Family Room built-ins decorated for Christmas Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

Red flowers, a Santa Claus candle, an old red throw blanket, a scrap of red plaid ribbon and my garland + twinkle lights is pretty much the extent of my Christmas decor. But oh how I love how it looks in here. Especially at night with the tree glowing and the candles lit.

Family Room built-ins decorated for Christmas Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

In fact, I couldn’t even locate our stockings when we pulled the Christmas totes out. I can’t imagine they got lost in the move, but for now, we’re making due without them. I’ll have to figure something out pretty soon because I know the boys will be asking!

Family Room built-ins decorated for Christmas Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

If and when I find them [or maybe I’ll have to grab some new ones?!], I’ll have to figure out how and where to hang them. We have our outdoor fireplace, but we don’t have a fireplace or mantel inside anymore. I really did love decorating the mantel for the holidays.

You can see all of my past Christmas mantels here .

Family Room built-ins decorated for Christmas Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

Maybe the stockings will end up on the outdoor mantel? We are in Arizona after all!

Christmas home tour - Family Room with fresh red roses and a pencil tree - This is our Bliss

I added a few other simple green trees throughout the shelves and lastly, you’ll find Manny, our boys’ beloved elf. He has yet to get ultra creative with his daily appearances but have we heard he has a few tricks up his sleeve in the coming weeks.

After all, hopping on the bookshelf or a bottle of wine isn’t too thrilling.

Christmas home tour - Family Room with fresh red roses and a pencil tree - This is our Bliss

He’s just learning the ropes of the new house first.

Christmas home tour - Family Room with fresh red roses and a pencil tree - This is our Bliss

Now to circle back on the glowing star of the show, our super cute new skinny pencil tree ! We didn’t have a spot for our big 9′ flocked tree , so realized in order to have one in our main living space, we needed to go ahead and buy a smaller one, better suited for this spot. The spot my olive tree was living for the last couple of months.

Christmas home tour - Family Room with fresh red roses and a pencil tree - This is our Bliss

I do have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at just how perfect the sizing was once we set it up. It was easy to set-up and extremely well-lit. I highly recommend this tree if you have a small space you want to put a tree.

I chatted a little more about the tree in this post here.

Christmas home tour - Family Room with fresh red roses and a pencil tree - This is our Bliss

And in the effort to use more of what I already had, I placed a white pom pom trim blanket around the base of the tree instead of buying a new tree collar.

Christmas home tour - Family Room with fresh red roses and a pencil tree - This is our Bliss

I think it worked out just fine!

I did grab these pampas grass stems and mixed them in with my metallic and black ornaments and picks. The tree is exactly what I wanted for in here. I couldn’t stand the thought of not having some sort of a Christmas tree in the main hub of our home. She’s small but mighty, we can even see a sliver of the tree from the driveway, front door and back patio.

Holiday Home Tour - Christmas Family Room - This is our Bliss

The front Living Room is where the flocked tree ended up and I have to say, I love how this room came together for Christmas. I shared all the details in this post here , but you can see a few snapshots below.

I’m not sure if we’ll gather in here or the Family Room. But I know where most of the presents will be – and most likely not under the pencil tree you saw earlier!

Christmas Living Room - This is our Bliss

And lastly, I embraced the fact we no longer have an indoor fireplace, so decided to decorate the outdoor one for Christmas ! A couple poinsettias, my favorite pre-lit garland and a roaring fire and it was ready to rock and roll for the holidays!

Outdoor Fireplace at Christmas - This is our BLiss

I even ended up eating my pie out here by the fire on Thanksgiving!

Well that pretty much wraps up our holiday home this year in the new house. I can’t wait to continue to show you more and more bits and pieces of our new Arizona home over the coming year – because have a feeling things will be already be looking a wee bit different come next Christmas.

I hope you all have had a great start to your holiday season! Can you believe we’ve almost rounded out the first week of the month already?! A little more shopping and lots [and by lots, I mean all] of the wrapping to do.

How are you coming along?!

Ready for more Christmas inspiration, be sure to stop by my bestie, Heather of Southern State of Mind’ s tour. She’s up next! Her home is always a treat, but especially at Christmastime. She’s got a gorgeous home, a casual, collected style, the cutest nutcracker collection and a ton of great decorating ideas I know you’ll find inspiring!

Have a great week and enjoy the rest of the tours!

Petersburg Battersea's Holiday Homes Tour: Art & Architecture from Tiffany to TikTok Dec. 5

hope house christmas tour

PETERSBURG - The Battersea Foundation's 6th annual Holiday Homes Tour: "Art & Architecture from Tiffany to TikTok" will be held this Sunday from 12 - 5 p.m.

The tour which includes historical landmarks is a must-see. It will feature a broad, eclectic collection of amazing art as you make your way through Historic Petersburg and its architecturally significant homes and buildings decorated for the holiday season.

Ticket holders can view original artwork by TikTok superstar Devon Rodriguez the "Subway Sketcher" who was a recent guest on The Today Show . His original paintings and sketches of people on the New York City Subway system have resulted in the artist having over 20 million followers on TikTok. Rodriguez's first public exhibition in the southeast will take place at Battersea  at 1289 Upper Appomattox Street during the tour.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

The Old Towne portion of the tour is walkable; however, trolleys will run throughout the afternoon to help ticket holders reach destinations included in the 5-hour tour.

Battersea Boardmember Martha Burton who serves as the tourism director for Petersburg Area Regional Tourism Corporation is thrilled with this year's tour.

"It really is a fascinating, unique Christmas home tour because of the extraordinary variety of art that will be shared and the amazing architecture, but there will still be beautiful holiday decorations," Burton said.

Burton provided the following information about Battersea's Art & Architecture from Tiffany to TikTok tour:

Batman spotted in Old Towne: Petersburg tourists stumble upon a crime scene in Gotham City: Batman fan film shooting

What are you thankful for?: Fifteen locals thankful for God, family, friends, good health, food, and Animal Crossings

You may want to begin your tour at the Petersburg Public Library’s atrium where you will see a large and very unique, award-winning mosaic that visually presents the history of Petersburg created by Cindy Haynie of Appomattox Tile Art.

The Appomattox Tile Art located in a 1918 Beaux Arts building that was once a Ford Model-A assembly plant located on W. Bank Street is also included on the tour.

Strawberry Hill, located behind the library in a peaceful pecan grove, is on the tour. The architectural jewel built in 1792 following a tripartite Palladian form is now a lovely bed & breakfast and event space. In 1800, upon William Haxall acquiring it, a two-story addition was added to each wing. The woodwork in the drawing room is exquisite.

From there, you will find art in every direction. A very special High Street rowhouse, beautifully appointed, has a Tim Bessell Andy Warhol series Banana surfboard, a painting by Francoise Gilot, the mother of Picasso’s children, and art by Frank Sinatra, Roy DeForest, Samuel Richardson, Catherine Venable, and Cynthia Erdahl.

You will be struck by the pace of progress that has been made on Battersea’s restoration, both on the exterior and interior. The Battersea Board is very excited to showcase works by Rodriguez who is rocking TikTok right now, and the art world is definitely taking notice.

Have you stood and looked at the Trapezium House on the outside and inside? Because of the idiosyncrasies of the early owner’s servant, the house was constructed with no right angles. Upon retirement, Petersburg Judge Oliver Pollard used this house as his art studio.

Two of the churches of Bristol Parish, formed in 1643, will welcome visitors. Historic Blandford Church built in 1735-1737 on the highest point in Petersburg, Wells Hill, will be sharing its 15 exquisite Tiffany windows designed and built in the period between 1904 and 1912.

The church is surrounded by Blandford Cemetery, the second-largest in Virginia, where burials continue. The oldest marked grave is 1702. It has one of the finest cast and wrought iron fencing in the United States along with an extraordinary collection of funerary art.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Old Towne will also be open. It was built in 1855-1857 and has a beautiful sanctuary.

The McIlwaine House, a favorite of filmmakers where Spielberg’s Lincoln was filmed is included on the Holiday Homes Tour. In addition to the gorgeous rooms, the owner’s art collection includes a painting by Grandma Moses, Children at Play, an outstanding three-quarter portrait of Dolley Madison, and Prisoner of War Art Elba by Napoleon’s Guards.

Just up the street, located on a lot purchased from Robert Bolling, is the Historic Farmers’ Bank, one of the oldest bank buildings in the United States. It is fascinating to see the heavy safe which was in the cashier’s office during business hours and lowered down into the vault below the first floor at night. The press and plates used to print the currency will also be on display.

The Courtyard behind the bank was used frequently in the PBS series Mercy Street.

Just up the hill, Centre Hill, the Bolling family home, will be open and beautifully decorated for the holiday season. This elaborate 1823 house was the Greene family home in Mercy Street. All three floors are open for the tour and you will love the breathtaking woodwork in the center hall.

In the heart of Old Towne at 7 E. Old Street, Petersburg Area Art League will host their annual Trees of Christmas exhibit during the tour.

All "Art & Architecture from Tiffany to TikTok" ticket proceeds will be used to continue the restoration of Historic Battersea.

Burton and the Battersea Board invite The Progress-Index readers to view the showcase of amazingly diverse art offerings and rich architectural history that lives in Petersburg.

"We hope it will be an enriching holiday experience for all who attend," Burton said.

'The Page Turner' on exhibit: Local man donates painting with historic landmarks depicted to Petersburg Public Library

Parking is available behind the Petersburg Public Library at Washington and Market Streets.

To kick off the holidays and support the continued restoration of the beautiful 18th-century villa, purchase $25 tickets at eventbrite.com , at Abigail's Antiques in Old Towne, or on the day of the tour at the Petersburg Public Library.
