La RPA des résidences du Carrefour sera transformée en logements

Les résidences du Carrefour changeront de vocation en juin prochain pour devenir des logements réguliers. (La Tribune, Frédéric Côté/La Tribune, Frédéric Côté)

Le couperet tombe pour une nouvelle résidence privée pour aînés (RPA) en Estrie, alors que les résidences du Carrefour, qui hébergent 220 personnes à Sherbrooke, cesseront d’opérer le 1er juin prochain. L’établissement deviendra un complexe de logements pour personnes de 55 ans et plus à partir de cette date.

Cette RPA en était une de catégorie 1. Ainsi, elle se devait d’assurer une prestation de services de base tels les repas, les loisirs et l’aide domestique. La certification de catégorie 1 prévoit également un seuil minimal de surveillance 24 heures/7 jours en plus de certaines exigences liées aux infrastructures.

Or, ces normes devenaient insoutenables pour les propriétaires en raison de la situation économique et de la pénurie de main-d’œuvre, si bien qu’une transformation des résidences en logements était la seule avenue viable. Les résidents en ont été avisés mercredi matin.

Or, en plus de l’aspect financier, la RPA avait de la difficulté à louer ses logements depuis la pandémie. Au moment d’écrire ces lignes, une quarantaine de loyers étaient inoccupés.

« Les gens dans une RPA de catégorie 1, ils sont autonomes. Les gens autonomes ne veulent plus rester dans des RPA depuis les deux dernières années, car ils veulent éviter de vivre les isolements et les répercussions si une nouvelle vague frappe. Ils préfèrent vivre dans des logements locatifs normaux tant qu’ils en ont les moyens », souligne l’un des copropriétaires, Danny Bennett.

« Si on savait, continue-t-il, que dans un an, on l’aurait rempli, notre résidence, on n’aurait pas pris cette décision-là.»

M. Bennett a d’ailleurs bon espoir que des résidents actuels pourront demeurer sur place l’an prochain, si ceux-ci peuvent évidemment se passer des services qui seront retirés.

Il note par ailleurs que le prix du loyer sera revu à la baisse, en raison de la perte de services comme la présence d’une animatrice en loisirs (qui pourrait être remplacée par un comité loisirs, fait-il valoir) et le système d’appel à l’aide dans chacun des appartements.

« Nous ferons le maximum au cours des prochaines semaines pour assurer une transition en douceur pour tous nos résidents, qu’ils souhaitent demeurer ici ou quitter vers une autre ressource d’hébergement. À ce chapitre, nous travaillons de manière concertée avec le réseau public de la santé. Une évaluation des besoins de chaque résident sera réalisée prochainement afin de déterminer le type d’hébergement nécessaire, en fonction des besoins de chacun », indique M. Bennett.

Pas effrayant

À cet effet, bien qu’il n’y avait pas foule en ce mercredi d’octobre à l’extérieur de la RPA, les résidents rencontrés par La Tribune ont tous signifié leur envie de rester locataires de l’établissement après le 1er juin 2023.

« Mais juste si on paie moins cher », lance la résidente Jeanne Bureau.

Sur un banc un peu plus loin, Tessy Murray ajoute ne pas être bien effrayée par les services retirés au 1er juin prochain.

« Ça ne me dérange pas », laisse simplement tomber celle qui habite aux résidences du Carrefour depuis bientôt trois ans.

Pour Madeleine Leclerc, une autre résidente, les services perdus pourront tout de même être accessibles aux locataires grâce à des entreprises privées ou à du bénévolat. Elle estime d’ailleurs que le comité loisirs évoqué par M. Bennett pourrait être un bon moyen de s’assurer de la tenue d’activités sur les lieux.

Pour rappel, selon le Regroupement québécois des résidences pour aînés, depuis un an, cinq autres RPA ont fermé dans la région. Le Domaine Fleurimont, la Résidence Ferland, la Villa du Roy, la Résidence du Bel-Âge et la résidence Saint-Philippe totalisaient 304 unités.

Dépistage du streptocoque

Si vous êtes une personne active sexuellement, il est important d’avoir régulièrement recours à un dépistage des infections transmissibles sexuellement et par le sang (ITSS).

Le test Pap vise à prélever une partie des cellules du col de l’utérus dans le but de protéger les femmes contre un cancer de cette région du corps.

Two short blocks east of McGill campus, Carrefour Sherbrooke provides students quick and easy access to the rest of the residence community, McGill, and Montreal.

Given the convenient location and comfortable rooms, this former Four-Points hotel, is a great place for first year students to call home and develop friendships that will last a lifetime.

Lease is for a period of 8.67 months from August 15, 2024 to May 4, 2025.

• The building houses 342 students in mostly double rooms with a few single occupancy room.

The additional optional tours were also good, we did the Metro tour which I highly recommend, we also paid for the Kremlin tour. The hop on hop off has three different lines all included. The red route is quite exciting and takes about an hour. The bus comes every 10 to 15 minutes. However the other two routes take about two hours each and buses come every 30 to 40 minute period. If the bus is full then you have to wait at the stop for the next bus. So personally I feel that not much can be seen this way. I definitely was not impressed. The boat element was wonderful, we saw some amazing parts of Moscow along the river side. The bus element was very disappointing as it only started at 10am and was finished by 6:30pm. The ear phones were small and sometimes the commentary did not link up with the sites you were seeing. The green bus takes you on a longer route and ours took two and a half hours due to the heavy traffic. I would not recommend this trip unless it is raining or you want to fill in time. The bus didn't stop at many points. Were were unaware a couple of times at what point we were and missed them. Headphones and maps were provided. Would recommend one should check out the route map before going and decide which places to stop in advance, this way one can manage and enjoy the tour more and us it more effectively.! And in the boat even tough we were 90% English speaking tourist at least, the tour guide spoke 95% of the time in Russia, and only 3 sentences in English, I really counted how many times she spoke in English. And at the end she asks us if we have any questions? Of course I told her I couldn’t ask her anything since I didn’t understand 95% of what she was saying. The boat tour is not worth it, just take the bus that would be my advice. Second minus is the waiting times, in the boat they made us wait an hour before it departed, and in many stops with the buses waiting times of 20-30 minutes.
