1986 Nissan Safari Fire Truck 4×4

Originally made in Japan or in other, right-hand drive countries like Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, the Safari was sold as the Nissan Patrol for many years in most world markets except for North America.

This truck’s red exterior is in overall great condition, with only minor blemishes visible upon close inspection. Its windows are in excellent condition, as are the truck’s lights, including the amber foglights perched on the front bumper – all are clear and intact. The truck’s bodywork is straight and solid, its engine bay is very tidy, the battery appears new and the truck’s corrugated metal bumpers look good. The truck rolls on Bridgestone light truck tires, size 7.00R16 and each one surrounds a steel wheel painted body color.

Under the hood is a 3.2L straight six-cylinder engine with a 24-volt electrical system. The motor is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and there’s a companion two-speed transfer case.

Inside, the crew cab offers enough space for up to five passengers, two in front. The blue-gray vinyl seats are in very good order, as is the matching carpet. The headliner and two-spoke steering wheel are in satisfactory condition. The instrument panel, with its full array of gauges looks great, as does the inner door liners. Between the front seats is a Yoshitani control panel for the truck’s lights, sirens and other safety gear. Behind the cab, where the bed would normally be, is a raft of Yoshitani fire control devices – hoses, pumps, fire extinguisher and other controls and equipment. At the rear, are two, fold-down jump seats, which would come in handy as places for two more volunteers to sit during a parade.While we have not tested the pump, we were told it was in working order if you need it!!!

Full details:

A rare decommissioned fire truck in the 1995 Nissan Safari Patrol 4×4 featuring right-hand-drive. Due to the low mileage & the truck being decommissioned it can be assumed that it has not been used all that much. Now for sale by the 2nd owner who has had the truck since October 2022 after importing it from Japan. There are no accidents or claims of any kind reported under current ownership & none under initial ownership mentioned at time of purchase by current owners. It recently passed it’s inspection.

This fire truck is quite rare as only 2763 have ever been built from 1987-1996. It has all of its accessories including the sirens & megaphone which are in working order. The water pump should be in working order as well, the seller reported that they tried to get it running but were unsuccessful due to the fact it is all in Japanese. They started the pump but couldn’t get it to suck water; an assumption is because they need to prime it. Instructions were found by the seller that may help the buyer.

No work has been to the truck under current ownership. It reportedly runs, drives & brakes with no hiccups. It is powered by a 4.2L TB42 Inline-6 spinning the rear or all 4 wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission & a dual-range transfer case.

Body Condition: Body is a solid 7/10. Has a few paint chips but shows great. New tires and some fresh paint. Interior looks great.

Mechanical Condition: Starts right up and drives with no problems. Has a Manual choke that might need a little adjusting. Right-hand drive is a super cool way to get around.

Make a great parts truck

I would have to brush up on my Japanese reading skills to run the pump or get the control labels translated by the guy at the local Hibachi restaurant.

If I had the 10K I would buy this rig and donate to some rural volunteer Fire Dept. Have close friend who worked many years for UN in many poor nations, he tells about how tough these rigs were, over built frames and suspensions, underrated for carry weight, run on crudest fuel, and while not totally maintenance free damn near, ; he has a bone stock no luxury items. He said many poor nations bought for their miltary.

Thank you, I was hoping I wasn’t the only one to think that. Some California folks could sure use this. Drag a water tank around, could save a house.
