Best of the Azores: 7 days in São Miguel
Really good communication from Tour Radar throughout my trip. I felt safe, supported and well informed. The tour itself is well thought out and included most of my meals! The guide, Philip, was really informative and had a good sense of humour. He was flexible to our needs and always made sure everyone was having a good time. Great if you are a solo traveler and want to explore with others.

Best of Lisbon Tour (with Sintra, Évora and Cascais) - 5 Days in Portugal
The trip of Portugal was fantastic. I thought it would be group tour, turned out to be private tour. Awesome! From the airport pick up, the hotel, the tours and the transfer to the airport, all was perfect. The driver/tour guide Paulo is so nice. He explained so many culture of Portugal, so that we learn Portugal a lot. He was also very kind to let us take our time to explore the planned places. The winery trip was also amazing. We learned a lot from making wine and tasted so many different kinds of wine, plus snacks!???? Overall, we were so happy and satisfied with this trip. Thanks a lot!

Reviews of Small Group tours to Portugal
We had a fantastic time. Exploring the island through jeep tour and kayaking was exhilarating. The whale watching and local food experiences were delightful, and the guides were truly local and knowledgeable. This tour was an unforgettable journey, would take it again, thank yuou.
We started our vacation in Lisbon, with 4 days of guided tours with Pedro. He was wonderful - always on time, so courteous, and a wealth of information. It would be hard to find someone with more knowledge of the history of his country. He shared so much detail about each of the sites we visited, and was able to answer any questions. If you get a chance to book a tour with Pedro, do it. You won’t be disappointed!
Excellent guide keen on sharing is passion and knowledge about Madeira.

Day 1 - Lisbon Lisbon Living
Arrive in the capital and get to know your new friends at the hotel in one of Lisbon’s most exciting neighborhoods.
After a welcome dinner with the group highlighted by stunning rooftop views, the evening is yours. Wander along narrow cobblestone streets and as you meander your way back, stop at any of the tiny bars nestled amongst the labyrinth of vibrant, red-roofed homes.
If you’re lucky, you can catch a Fado show as well—the beautiful, melancholy music echoes from barrooms and taverns across the nation. Just don’t let it bring you down; after all, you’re in Portugal.
Day 2 - Lisbon Oh Azulejos
Start the day with breakfast at the hotel to get the gears in that right-brain cranking; we're getting into the arts this morning.
By now, you've undoubtedly come across the colorfully complex tiles that line homes, shops, subway stations, and just about any other type of wall the Portuguese can find. Known as azulejos, these tiles have been kicking around this stretch of land since the 13th century when the Arabs invaded. With the rest of the crew, you're going to paint like a local and try your hand at some azulejo art.
The afternoon's free to wander the hills, and then you'll trade dinner for something a bit more fun as you explore the city's character and charm with a food and wine walking tour through one of Lisbon's trendiest neighborhoods.
Day 3 - Lisbon / Sintra High class
Today, we’re hopping on the train to Sintra. In the cool mountain air, you’ll set out on tuk-tuks and twist between homes, shops, palaces, and castles that date to the Middle Ages.
After checking out the Romanticist architecture of the Pena Palace from a mountaintop viewpoint, we’re heading into the stone spectacle of Quinta da Regaleira, arguably Sintra’s most impressive palace. Wander the gardens and then twist down into the Initiation Well to explore the spine-tinglingly spectacular underground grottos.
You’ll have lunch with friends before heading back to Lisbon. The evening is yours to explore the artsy enclave of Alfama; no one will judge you if you set out for more wine.
Day 4 - Lisbon Unwind
After a day twisting up and down Sintra’s hills, it’s time to unwind—the day is yours to chill out or head off exploring with friends.
If you decide to stay in the city, consider hopping in a cab to the north of town and checking out the National Tile Museum. Housed in an ancient convent that was restored after being reduced to rubble in the earthquake of 1755, this colorful stop has numerous exhibits showcasing azulejo, or the traditional tile work found all over Portugal.
If you’re in the mood for a beach day, head to the Cais do Sodré train station and take the short ride to the resort town of Cascais for an afternoon in the sand.
Day 5 - Lisbon / Evora Back in time
After breakfast, it’s time to get cooking. Rich, crumbly custard tarts are on the menu. A specialty in the region, these savory pastries, known locally as pastéis de nata, are smooth on the inside and crispy on the outside.
Then, it’s time to head out on the road toward Evora. The inland city is older than the Portuguese capital and is also a UNESCO Heritage Site. Spend the afternoon walking back in time on a guided tour of streets and alleys once inhabited by the Celts, Romans, Moors, and Visigoths. You’ll even stroll through the hauntingly beautiful Chapel of Bones, a 16th-century skeletal structure built by Franciscan monks.
After your deep dive into ancient times, head to a group dinner, and if you’ve still got the energy, follow it up with some fun and bar-hopping.
Day 6 - Evora / Algarve beachbound
Fuel up on breakfast at the hotel in Evora before driving south to the Algarve, Portugal’s most spectacular beach region.
It’s a bit of a hike and this is Portugal after all, so we’ll pop off at a vineyard on the way down, and you can pop into some more of that famous Portuguese wine if you so desire (and if you feel up to it after a night at the bars).
We’ll get down to the Algarve by mid-afternoon, where you’ll check into your digs by the beach. Take the afternoon to soak up the sun or hop into the dazzling blue sea as it laps at the shore.
Day 7 - Algarve to the sea
Get out on the water and start exploring! The endlessly beautiful coast of the Algarve is made up of jagged limestone walls and staggering caves chiseled by the sea. You’ll explore it all on a private, day-long boating adventure.
Lunch will be prepared on board, so the day truly belongs to you. Lounge with friends, swim through the balmy waters, and explore the remarkable rocky coast of Southern Portugal.
In the evening, we’ll all meet up for one final night of fun at our farewell dinner.
Day 8 - Algarve farewell
Today is our last day in Portugal. We’ll share one final breakfast together before we all go our separate ways.
If you prefer to stick around to explore a bit on your own (which we recommend!), the hotel will be happy to store your bags.
If you're after more European fun beyond Portugal, head to Northern Spain and the Basque Country for amazing cuisine or to Sardinia for golden beach vibes!

What our travelers say about their trips to Portugal
Travel tips for trips to portugal.
If you’re considering one of our guided tours of Portugal, you’ll notice that departures are available throughout the year. That’s because it’s an excellent destination to travel to in any month—and the best time to visit depends on your preferences.
Bordering Spain on the Iberian Peninsula, Portugal lies in the southwestern part of Europe. It has some of the warmest year-round temperatures on the continent, experiencing hot summers and wet winters. Conditions vary from the coast to inland regions like the Douro River Valley.
In the capital city of Lisbon , which you can visit on our Portugal tour packages, the average temperature in January is 53°F. During July, the average rises to 73°F and sunny weather is quite common.
The good news when planning a trip to Portugal? Its small size makes it relatively easy to cover during one trip. Must-visit spots along the coast include the stunning Algarve region, Lisbon, and Porto, while the appeals more inland include the Douro Valley, Évora, and the Alentejo region.
You can often pair Portugal with another destination or two if you have some more time to spare. Here are some of our Portugal tours that may fit your interests:
- For an introduction to the country, try our 9-day trip, Portugal: Porto, the Algarve & Lisbon .
- For foodies interested in one of our Portugal small group tours, our Food & Wine: A Taste of Portugal trip could be the perfect fit.
- For an immersive journey through the Iberian Peninsula, check out our 15-day Grand Tour of Portugal & Spain: Porto to Barcelona .
- For a deeper dive into the surrounding region, spend 16 days on tour in Portugal, Spain & Morocco .
Have a question about any of our trips to Portugal? Give us a call—a Tour Consultant who specializes in this region can help you out.
While traveling on one of our guided trips to Portugal, you’ll have the opportunity to savor delicious food that may be brand-new to you. Traditional cuisine here is fresh and tasty. Salted cod, called bacelhau , is one of the most popular ingredients on the menu and can be mixed with everything from eggs to potatoes. In addition to seafood, some notable dishes to try are piri piri chicken and pastéis de nata , a famous custard tart.
While on Portugal escorted tours, you can also sip some local specialties. Porto’s famous Port wine gets its sweet signature flavor from the grapes of the UNESCO-listed Douro Valley. Seek out aromatic white wines in the Alentejo region, and fruity, fortified Moscatel de Setúbal wine in the Setúbal region.
Packing light is the recommendation for our Portugal guided tours—or any vacation, for that matter! While you’re on-the-go, you should feel comfortable managing your baggage. One suitcase and one carry-on bag per person is a good guideline to keep in mind when prepping for your trip.
Bring along lightweight clothes that can be easily layered, so you're prepared for any type of weather. A comfortable pair of shoes that you can easily walk in, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a light jacket are all key items to pack too. Once you’ve booked a Portugal tour, we’ll send you even more information about getting ready to go—and you can also download our mobile app for a detailed packing list.

Please note that European hotel rooms are often smaller than ones in the U.S. (with equivalent star ratings).
In order to budget properly please consider the following items which are not included in this Portugal group travel trip:
- Meals: You are responsible for 5 lunches and 5 dinners. Budget around 250€ for meals not included.
- Local drivers, guides and restaurant staff: Tipping is not compulsory but can make a big difference to individuals in the local hospitality industry in Portugal. Therefore, we recommend budgeting around 75€ for these services.
- Group leader: Tipping your group leader is completely discretionary. For outstanding service you may consider tipping your group leader ~$10/day.
- Transportation: Airport transfers are not included. If you plan on taking the metro please budget 3€ each way. If you plan on taking a taxi please budget about 25€ each way.
- Travel insurance: Travel insurance covering our minimum requirements ($100k+ in medical coverage including emergency evacuation) is compulsory for all participants. Budget anywhere from $50 to $130 for travel insurance (from a 3rd party) depending on your specific coverage inclusions.
The single room supplement on this Portugal group trip is $699. You will be able to select your preference for a single room supplement when filling out the application. If you are applying for this trip within 3 months of the departure please contact us for single room availability before applying.
Upon arrival in Porto you will take a taxi/metro directly to the hotel where your group leader will be waiting for you! After getting checked-in you will have free time until around 6pm upon which you will meet the group in the hotel lobby. Then you will walk to a nearby spot for drinks/dinner as you begin to get to know one another. While you will not physically meet your group mates until the evening of the first day you will be in contact with everyone well ahead of time in the group WhatsApp chat and, in addition, we will provide you with everyone’s traveler bios so you’ll already know each other a little before physically meeting!
On day 5 (Lisbon) and day 7 (in Lagos) you will have the opportunity to tailor the trip to your style by selecting an optional excursion. You will be able to select the optional excursion during the application process and, after, you’ll be sent an invoice to pay.
Day 5 (Lisbon):
- Sintra and Pena Palace: 120€
- Market Cooking Class: 110€
Day 7 (Lagos):
- Benagil Caves Boat Tour: 45€
- Kayaking: 40€
- Surf Lesson: 80€
You can read more about the optional excursions here .
We recommend bringing a combination of cash and credit/ATM card (assuming your credit card does not have foreign transaction fees) for this Portugal group travel tour. You will be able to use a credit card (Visa or Mastercard) at many shops and restaurants in Portugal but it’s good to have a cash reserve as a backup in case the card machine is not working or if a restaurant is cash only. ATMs are readily available but withdrawal limits and transaction fees could occur.
You may bring any size luggage that you wish. Please note that you will need to carry your bag onto and off of the train.
Yes, you will have WiFi access at all the hotels and most restaurants.
In Lisbon and Porto you will have plenty of nightlife options: wine and cocktail bars, lounges, dives, and clubs. Lagos and Faro (in the Algarve) are smaller beach oriented towns and, as such, the vibe there is more laid back with the majority of the nightlife being bars. The decision to go out at night or not is completely up to you!
Upon arrival in Porto you will either take the metro or a taxi to the hotel. The metro is most cost effective as it’s only 2.45€; we will provide you with detailed instructions (via your trip documents) on how to take the metro. Alternatively, you can easily take a taxi as there are always taxis queued at the airport. Further, you could also share a taxi with other participants on your trip by coordinating through the group WhatsApp chat.
Portugal Group Travel Itinerary
- Your epic Portugal group travel tour starts today in Porto! This beautiful coastal city, home to the famous port wine and beautiful century old cobblestone streets, will be our home base for the next three nights. Oh, and it’s the cutest city ever! Today you’ll have free time to explore Porto as nothing is officially planned until this evening.
- Tonight we’ll kick things off with our first group dinner. Prepare yourself for Portuguese food and the chance to get to know your trip mates.
Daily Inclusions:
- Lodging: 3* hotel in Porto (double occupancy)
- Meals: Dinner
- Today we’ll take a day trip to Portugal’s Douro Valley region, an area known for having some of the best vineyards the country has to offer. We’ll stop by a couple wineries for delicious wine and port tastings (remember that wine from Porto?) and, to top it all off, we’ll take a relaxing river cruise through the valley along the Douro river with truly awe inspiring views. Not bad for our first second in Portugal, huh?
- Tonight we’ll meet back up and enjoy a delicious dinner together in town!
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
- Activities: Winery visits with tasting and river cruise (shared)
- Transportation: Private transfer to/from Douro Valley
- What’s the best way to get to know Porto? If you answered ‘through the stomach’ then you’re correct as we kick things off with a food tour! You’ll get to sleep in a bit before we meet in the late morning for a walking food tour around Porto! We’ll sample all the delicious Portuguese food there is by sharing petiscos (Portuguese tapas) and other traditional dishes. Don’t worry – sweets will certainly be involved.
- After the food tour you are free to explore Porto as you wish! You could explore historical Porto by visiting sites such as the Lello library (the inspiration for Harry Potter’s library in Hogwarts), the stock exchange palace, or even climb 225 steps to the top of the Clérigos Tower for some unreal city views. Or you could continue with the food theme (there are so many hole-in-the-wall eateries and wine bars, after all).
- Tonight is our last in Porto so we’ll be sure to live it up with (more) delicious Portuguese food followed by cocktails after for those that wish!
- Activities: Private food tour
- This morning we say goodbye to Porto as we take the train to the capital city, Lisbon. Lisbon, the oldest city in Western Europe, is truly magical! Upon arrival in Lisbon we’ll check into our hotel then walk over to the famous Time Out Market for lunch! The market has so many different food stalls with endless options – it’s certainly the best way to start your stay in Lisbon.
- After lunch (and exploring the market) we’ll meet up for a fun walking tour through some of Lisbon’s most historic neighborhoods! Historic buildings, cityscape viewpoints, and castles – what’s not to love about this city?
- Tonight we’ll meet up for dinner together in town and then, for those that wish, take in Lisbon’s lively nightlife!
- Lodging: 3* hotel in Lisbon (double occupancy)
- Meals: Breakfast
- Transportation: Private transportation from Porto hotel to train station, train from Porto to Lisbon, private transportation from train station to hotel in Lisbon
- Activities: Private walking tour
- Today is yours to spend as you wish in Lisbon! You can go sight-seeing around the city, shop for souvenirs, go on a quest to find the best Pasteis de Nata – a deliciously soft and sweet custard tart from Portugal – or opt into an optional excursion. The day is entirely up to you!
- Tonight we’ll meet up for a farewell dinner but it’s not just any farewell dinner – it’s dinner accompanied by traditional Fado music! Fado, meaning fate, dates back to the 19th century and is more than just music – it’s an emotional and immersive experience. Talk about an amazing last dinner in Lisbon!
- Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
- Activities: Fado experience (shared)
Optional Excursions:
You can read more about the optional excursions here
- Today we leave the bustling, capital city of Lisbon and head to the relaxing, cliffside area in Portugal’s south: the Algarve. Upon arrival into Lagos we’ll grab some lunch and, after, you’ll have the rest of the afternoon to explore the town or head to a local beach!
- Tonight we’ll hit up a local restaurant with delicious seafood. Lagos is a super cute seaside town and, as you probably imagined, the seafood is always super fresh! But no worries non-seafood eaters – there are plenty of options for you too!
- Lodging: 3* hotel in Lagos (double occupancy)
- Transportation: Private transfer from Lisbon to Lagos
- You’re on vacation in paradise so there’s simply no better way to spend the first half of the day than by relaxing on the beach. This morning we’ll head to a local cliffside beach to take in the sun and just relax!
- The afternoon is yours to spend as you wish! You could beach hop and head to a different, wander the streets of Lagos or opt into an optional excursion such as kayaking, boating or visiting the famous Benagil cave! The decision is yours!
- Tonight we’ll meet back up and share our stories from the day!
- Transportation: Transfer to/from the beach from/to the hotel
- Kayaking caves tour: 40€
- Speedboat caves tour: 45€
- Surfing school: 80€
- Today we’re off to our final destination on this Portugal group trip: Faro. Faro, the capital of the Algarve region, dates back to the 13th century complete with an old town and cobbled streets. You’ll have time to explore this beautiful town or, alternately, you could beach it up again if that’s more up your alley.
- Tonight is our last night together so we’ll definitely finish in style: delicious Portuguese food followed by a night out for those that would like!
- Lodging: 3* hotel in Faro (double occupancy)
- Transportation: Private transportation from hotel in Lagos to hotel in Faro
- Today, sadly, is our last on our Portugal group travel tour for young professionals. While you will be going home today the experience on the trip and friendships made will last a lifetime! You’re free to depart from Faro at any time today.

Portugal group tours for solo travelers
Travel solo as part of a group tour to Portugal
Why travel solo to Portugal?
A solo trip to Portugal immerses you in a culture that owes much of its character to the sea – this being the final frontier between Europe and the mighty, irrepressible Atlantic.
From Porto to the Algarve, Portugal’s coastline, lays on seascapes and surfing spots that you won’t want to miss. Here, even the melancholy tones of fado music seem to take on a nautical note.
Wander through the streets of Lisbon to admire its faded beauty and fall in love with its azulejo-tiled buildings and Manueline (Gothic) churches. Further north in Porto, you’ll find the medieval streets of Ribeira, brimming with wine bars and lively plazas.
Then, there are Portugal’s wild landscapes. Tackle Sintra’s mountain trails in a 4×4 Jeep and you’ll encounter whimsical palaces and extravagant villas hidden amongst majestic pine forests. The dramatic Douro Valley is threaded with vineyards, producing some of the world’s most famous wines. And let’s not forget the volcanic Azores, 800 miles adrift in the Atlantic… After all, everything flows back to the sea here.
TOP PLACES TO VISIT IN PORTUGAL
Lisbon is a city of hilltop views, cobblestone streets and beautiful architecture. Oh, and let’s not forget the nightlife, centered around its hive of rooftop bars and cool co-working spaces. A must for any solo traveler.
Gothic churches, age-old port lodges and azulejo-tiled buildings await in Porto, all accessible via the city’s traditional tram network. A hillside location makes for great views, too, over the rooftops and the Douro River.
DOURO VALLEY
The world has woken up to the appeal of the Douro Valley region and it’s now a must for any wine-lover. Here, some of the oldest vineyards in the world produce unique port wines against a backdrop of rolling hills and winding valleys.
This Unesco World Heritage Site and fairytale town is one of Portugal’s most-visited destinations – with good reason. Colorful houses, winding streets and the hilltop Palacio Nacional da Pena castle are just some of its storybook attractions.

Israel-Gaza live updates: Iran seizes Israeli-linked ship in Strait of Hormuz
A n Israeli attack in Gaza on a convoy of aid workers from World Central Kitchen, the relief organization providing desperately needed food to Palestinians, has generated outrage from the group's founder, celebrity chef José Andrés and condemnation from around the world.
Israel has apologized for the strikes, which killed seven members of the group on April 1, saying it was an accident in "the fog of war." They have promised a thorough investigation of the incident, which Andrés said was deliberate .
Six months after Hamas terrorists invaded Israel on Oct. 7, the Israeli military continues its bombardment of the neighboring Gaza Strip. About 1,200 people were killed in the initial terrorist attack, according to Israeli officials, while Israel's bombing of Gaza has killed more than 33,000 people, according to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza.
Latest Developments

"We also confirm our readiness to enter a serious and real prisoner exchange deal between the two parties," Hamas said in a statement.

Ship seized by Iran in 'pirate operation' is Portuguese, Israel says
In a statement in response to Iran's seizure of a cargo ship it said was Israeli, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz claimed it was a Portuguese civilian cargo ship, belonging to an EU member.
Katz called Iran's seizing of the cargo ship "a pirate operation in violation of international law". He also called Iran's "Ayatollah regime" a "criminal regime".
"The Ayatollah regime of @khameneiir is a criminal regime that supports Hamas' crimes and is now conducting a pirate operation in violation of international law. I call on the European Union and the free world to immediately declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guards corps as a terrorist organization and to sanction Iran now," Katz said in a statement.

In a report posted on X, the Iranian Tasnim state news agency affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IGRC) said paramilitary Revolutionary Guard commandos seized a cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz.
The detained ship, named "MSC Aries," operates under the flag of Portugal and is connected to the London-based company called Zodiac Maritime which is partially owned by Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer.

MSC is also responsible for the vessel’s itinerary, schedule and crew onboard and any queries about the vessel should be directed to MSC”.
Further details regarding the seized vessel are expected to be released shortly.
"We regret to confirm that MSC Aries owned by Zodiac Maritime and chartered to MSC has been boarded by Iranian authorities via helicopter as she passed the Strait of Hormuz," MSC said in a statement. "She has since been diverted from her itinerary towards Iran. She has 25 crew onboard, and we are working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure their wellbeing, and safe return of the vessel."
