Kendrick Lamar coming to Seattle's Climate Pledge Arena this summer

Big day for Kendrick Lamar fans.

On the heels of releasing his long-awaited fifth studio album, "Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers," the legendary rapper announced he's going on tour this summer. "The Big Steppers Tour" includes a stop at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on Saturday, Aug. 27. Special guests joining Lamar include Baby Keem and Tanna Leone on select dates.

Lamar fans have been waiting years for the follow-up to "Damn," his fourth studio album released in 2017 — and "Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers" seems to have been well worth the wait based on reviews from music critics and social media reactions.

Tickets for "The Big Steppers Tour" will go on sale to the public at noon PST Friday, May 20.

Future, Metro Boomin bring 'We Trust You' Tour to Seattle

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

SEATTLE - Hip-hop artists Future and Metro Boomin announced they will bring their "We Trust You" Tour to Seattle this fall.

Future is a four-time Grammy Award-winning rapper with more than 64 million people listening to his music on Spotify every month. His counterpart, Metro Boomin, is a Grammy-nominated producer who has provided breakout collaborations with some of the biggest names in hip-hop, such as Drake, 21 Savage, Migos, Big Sean, and many more.

When are Future and Metro Boomin coming to Seattle?

The rapper-producer duo's "We Trust You" 27-date summer tour is slated to kick off in Kansas City on July 30. The tour through North America will make stops in cities like Detroit, Atlanta, Boston, Houston and Las Vegas before stopping at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on Friday, Sept. 6.

The tour will wrap up in Vancouver, B.C. at Rogers Arena on Sept. 9.

When do tickets to Future and Metro Boomin's tour go on sale?

According to Billboard , tickets will become available to the public on Friday, April 19 on the Live Nation website . People who use the Cash App Card can start purchasing tickets on Wednesday, April 17.

Why is it called the We Trust You Tour?

Any fan of modern hip-hop is likely familiar with Metro Boomin's work if they have heard his defining phrase, "If young Metro don't trust, I'm gon' shoot you" before the beat drop of a song.

Future and Metro Boomin have released two back-to-back joint albums in 2024. Both of which include wordplay inspired by Metro Boomin's signature phrase, "WE DON'T TRUST YOU" and "WE STILL DON'T TRUST YOU". The "We Trust You" Tour appears to adhere to this theme, but rather than highlighting a lack of trust among competing rappers, the duo has redirected the theme as a way to show support to their listeners.

Future and Metro Boomin shocked the world of hip-hop when they released the album "WE DON'T TRUST YOU" on March 22. Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Kendrick Lamar was featured on the track "Like That", where he famously dissed Drake and J. Cole, igniting a social media frenzy that seemingly pitted a group of rappers against the hip-hop giant, Drake.

As social media heightened the popularity of the album and the star-studded rap beef, Future and Metro Boomin subsequently released "WE STILL DON'T TRUST YOU" just three weeks later. The new album included features from artists such as The Weeknd, Ty Dolla $ign, and, shockingly , J. Cole.

Will Future and Metro Boomin's tour feature openers or supporting acts?

Though the albums "WE DON'T TRUST YOU" and "WE STILL DON'T TRUST YOU" include songs featuring Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Brownstone, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Baby, J. Cole, A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti and Rick Ross, openers and supporting acts have not yet been announced, according to Billboard.

Review: Drake thrills Seattle fans at first of back-to-back arena shows

Concert review.

As Drake made his way through the crowd to the Climate Pledge Arena stage on Friday night, a sea of hands shot toward him, devout fans praying to simply touch the 36-year-old Canadian hip-hop superstar. One man who scored a quick embrace from the A-lister looked like he was barely holding back tears.

For some, Drake’s first Seattle-area show in five years seemed like a religious experience. Others, like a jubilant man outside who screamed to no one in particular, “Everybody in the club get crunk!,” were simply there to party. Drake was happy to accommodate them all with his It’s All a Blur Tour.

After a quick, crowd-pleasing set by rising Missouri rapper Sexyy Red, Drake delivered an expansive, two-and-a-half-hour fever dream of a concert, featuring well over 40 songs and a mini-set by 21 Savage in the middle of the show.

After greeting the crowd, the rapper sat on a couch with an actor portraying a teenage Drake, launching into a thoughtful version “Look What You’ve Done.” It was the first of a number of songs off his 2011 multiplatinum album “Take Care,” which served as a powerful reminder of how long Drake has been in the hitmaking business. “Marvins Room,” “Shot for Me” and “HYFR” also stood out as the star worked his fans into a collective lather.

Drake’s medley approach felt like being at a mouthwatering buffet, but only being able to take a single bite of every dish. The defiant “Started From the Bottom” had barely gotten going when it shifted into “Energy,” which built momentum even further, only for Drake to cool things off with “Know Yourself.”

It created a bit of whiplash, perhaps exacerbated by the fact that Climate Pledge couldn’t escape the boomy, washed-out acoustics created by its cavernous confines. But as Drake laid into a vicious version of “Nonstop,” the entranced, sold-out crowd clearly did not mind that the sonic details were a little muddy.

The visuals were relatively tame, with some impressive pyrotechnics and the occasional giant shark or anime girl flying through the air. Some in the crowd added their own visual element, throwing undergarments and dollar bills at the stage, which was basically one giant LED screen. After a fun call-and-response pitting two sides of the arena against each other on “God’s Plan,” Drake finally took notice of all the bills piling up.

“I’m not shaking no ass for you tonight,” said Drake, real name Aubrey Graham, laughing at the money thrown on stage. “I’m singing the classics.”

In a talkative and positive mood all night, Drake urged everyone to show a stranger some love.

“You make me the luckiest person in the world and I’m so grateful for y’all,” he said. “But enough preaching!”

With that, the rapper launched into “Childs Play” and the party was back on. The church of Drake had officially become a club.

Deep into his bag but far from finished, Drake retreated to the DJ booth for a few songs, including other hits off 2016’s “Views” like “Controlla” and “Too Good,” during which sweepers came out to remove the numerous unmentionables flung at the artist.

After “Massive” and “Sticky” off his 2022 release “Honestly, Nevermind,” Drake followed up with “Search & Rescue,” the lead single from his forthcoming album, “For All the Dogs,” which was rumored to be coming out Friday.

“It’s very close,” he said later in the night, addressing the still-unreleased album. “But you know, I’ve got a show every night.”

In an unconventional but effective move, 21 Savage came out for a short solo set, with the rapper’s aggressive flows serving a nice counterpoint to Drake’s crooning. The crowd ate it up as 21 ran through some of his high-profile features: “Peaches & Eggplants” by Young Nudy had the crowd dancing in the aisles, while the hazy swagger of “Rockstar” by Post Malone suited Savage perfectly.

Drake soon joined his frequent collaborator, with whom he released the 2022 joint album “Her Loss.” During “Knife Talk,” (from Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy”), the song’s menace was enhanced by a Grim Reaper flying through the air. “Her Loss” track “On BS” featured some fun interplay between the rappers, while “Jimmy Cooks” (from “Honestly, Nevermind”) and high-note finale “Rich Flex” provided a euphoric send-off.

Drake came out for a few more solo songs, including the rarely played “Girls Like Beyoncé.” The new album will have to wait at least another day, but Seattle fans can go another round with the “Back to Back” rapper: Drake returns to Climate Pledge Arena for a second show Saturday night.

Top 12 Seattle Rappers: 2023’s Best Rappers from Seattle List

Top seattle rappers, list of best rappers from seattle.

For years, Seattle rappers have been ignored among the West Coast hip hop scene, with Los Angeles and the Bay Area hogging the spotlight, but rappers from Seattle have always found their way into the industry.

Located in far Pacific Northwest region of the country, on the borders of Canada, Seattle’s region and metropolitan is a well diverse community, home to blacks, whites, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, and Asians. With its diversity, there has been a spark of a creative community, a community that has helped produce a number of rappers from Seattle throughout the years.

Unaware of the true history of Seattle’s rap scene, but one of the biggest rappers of the late 1980s and early 1990s, Sir Mix-A-Lot , once called the city of Seattle home. Overtime the city would produced national stars, like Kid Sensation and Common Market , local legends, like Duragned Pitt, Nacho Picasso , Gangsta Nutt , Sarkastik , and Red Head Steve , and top producers, like Jake One. This trend of talented Seattle rappers has only increased over the last few years.

A rap scene of Macklemore, the top rapper of the mid-2010s with the hit song “Thrift Shop.” Lil Mosey, a rapper whose stock has risen among the current generation’s top rap artists. Grieves and Travis Thompson, two of Washington’s most innovative, creative, and most importantly two talents that provide relief to the forever stagnant rap game of artists that emulate other artists. And not to leave out representations for the streets, like Mike Jack 3200, Check Team, KGodd, and more.
