Viral videos posted online show rhinos aggressively chasing visitors in India safari parks as the drivers do their best to outrace the beasts.
In the first video, filmed on Dec. 30, 2022, a rhino in the Manas National Park in Assam, India charged at tourists while they were in a forested area. The video starts with tourists in a different car recording the rhino in pursuit before cutting to the very vehicle the rhino is pursuing.
From there, the intense video captures a half minute of what would end up a half-mile pursuit. The tourists can be heard shouting throughout the video, urging the driver to pick up the pace as the rhino remains very close to the vehicle for the duration of the footage.
The rhino eventually grew tired, and the tourists were able to speed away, leaving the animal behind.

The tourists in the second video scream "bhaga" – or "speed up" – throughout the video as they remain in a wild panic. The rhino is farther behind the vehicle at the start but catches up halfway through as the driver appears to have difficulty maintaining top speed.

Press Trust of India reported that three jeeps tried to outrun the rhino, and the rhino actually brushed against the tires of the rear jeep.
Officials at the park reported no injuries among any of the guests despite the clear terror visible on the face of the woman in the video.

Videos of aggressive rhino behavior can occasionally pop up online, such as in February 2022 when a safari guide in South Africa had to shelter in a tree while a rhino tried to get at him. A research group had tranquilized and collared the rhino, but when it woke up it started going after the guide and crew.

These tourists’ trip to India came at an extra charge.
Terrifying footage has captured rhinoceroses storming after safari tours in India, forcing drivers to frantically try to outrace them.
In one clip filmed on Dec. 30, a one-horned rhino chasing is seen chasing after a group of tourists at Manas National Park in the Assam state.
The massive mammal, which can run at a speed of up to 35 miles per hour, pursued the vehicle for about a mile. A second view of the chase shows that tourists were sitting and standing in the truck’s bed with little to protect them from the 3-ton animal.
Tourists can be heard screaming for the driver to go faster as the rhino comes within mere inches of the car. After a few exhilarating minutes, the rhino gave up and ran into the bushes, The Free Press Journal reported.
A second rhinoceros chase was posted on Twitter the next day.
The animal pursued the car on an open dirt road at the Kaziranga National Park, about 150 miles from the Manas National Park.

“Bhaga!” the tourists can be heard repeatedly yelling , which translates to “speed up.”
The riders eventually directed their screams away from the driver and toward the charging animal in an effort to scare it away.
As the video progressed, so did the rhino until it brushed against the tires of the jeep, the Press Trust of India said. The animal immediately ran off into the grasslands after making contact with the car.
The tourists eventually made it to safety, where they discovered marks of the animal’s teeth on the rear tire of the car. Authorities suspect the contact may have injured the animal and sent it retreating.
Such chases are rare for the animals — rhinos typically only turn aggressive if provoked, though will charge if they perceive a threat, according to the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

Tourist recalls being chased by a white rhino on South African safari
The nearly three ton animal pursued the vehicle for two minutes.
A South African safari turned into a terrifying high speed chase through the brush with one of the area's largest animals.
Rian Boshoff, who was with his tour group to photograph leopards last month, told ABC News they first spotted the white rhino in the road and slowly tried to pass it when the animal charged.
"At first, I just thought it's going to be like a short charge and then it would stop," Boshoff said. "The road had a lot of turns in it which made it difficult for us to get away."
(MORE: Giraffe attack victims on the mend, family says)
But even the driver's maneuvers weren't enough to shake the animal off their tail.
"The driver took a 90-degree turn into the bush to try and deter the rhino because they have bad eyesight," Boshoff explained. "But he was determined to get to us he just kept on coming."
Cellphone video captured a portion of the nearly two-minute chase by the three ton animal, which can reach speeds up to 30 mph.
Looking back on the closer-than expected-encounter, Boshoff said, "I thought it [was] going to eat us."
The safari driver reportedly told the group that same rhino had charged other vehicles in the past.
"The driver really did a good job to keep us safe," Boshoff explained. "He just asked us to sit still and he got us out of the situation."
There were no injuries reported from the incident.

White Rhino Charges at Tourists for More Than a Minute in Terrifying Escape Video
White rhinoceros are the second-largest land mammal and can run up to 30 miles per hour
A group of tourists in South Africa got more than they bargained for while on a recent safari.
The group was on the lookout for leopards, but instead had a terrifying encounter with a white rhinoceros. The massive animal was in the vehicle’s path and ended up charging when the group tried to pass by, Rian Boshoff, a tourist with the group, told ABC News.
“At first, I just thought it’s going to be like a short charge and then it would stop,” Boshoff told the outlet. “The road had a lot of turns in it which made it difficult for us to get away.”
Boshoff said that the rhino seemed “determined” to get to the vehicle.
“The driver took a 90-degree turn into the bush to try and deter the rhino because they have bad eyesight,” Boshoff said.
White rhinoceros — which are the second-largest land mammal in the world, according to the World Wildlife Fund — can charge up to 30 miles per hour, and male rhinos are notorious for protecting their territory.
The rhino captured in the video chased the tourist group for nearly two minutes, ABC News reported, before eventually ending its pursuit.
Boshoff recalled, “I thought it [was] going to eat us” — but the near threatened animals are herbivores, so there’s no need to worry about a rhino looking at you for lunch. Just avoid their two horns, which can grow up to five feet in length, according to National Geographic .
Thankfully, there were no injuries in this encounter, ABC News reported.
Nonetheless, Boshoff’s driver told the group that this same rhino has charged their vehicles before, ABC News reported, and Boshoff said “the driver really did a good job to keep us safe.”
Despite the frightening encounter, the white rhino sighting could be interpreted as a sign of the animal’s growing population, which is under threat from poaching. White rhinoceros are the only of the five rhinoceros species that are not classified as endangered, according to the WWF.

Rhino charges safari vehicle for over a kilometre in kruger national park.
A white rhino proved his strength in cardio endurance when he chased a safari vehicle for over a kilometre through the Kruger National Park before stopping.
Nature is unpredictable, and experienced field guides are invaluable. These are two important points one needs to keep in mind when on a wildlife safari.
A Cape Town-based Instagram user named Anastasia Chapman was on safari in the Kruger National Park when she captured a rare moment on video.
A white rhino – usually the less aggressive rhino species compared to black rhinos – charged the safari vehicle that Anastasia and a group of tourists were on, chasing the vehicle for over a kilometre through the national park.
The experienced guide and driver drove as fast as he could through unstable terrain for a total of 3-4 minutes, attempting to lose the rhino who expertly trailed behind the vehicle with remarkable stamina, wrote Anastasia in her caption.
“He charged at us full send for over a kilometre, barreling at us for 3-4 mins straight. Our guide was driving as fast as he could through the extremely muddy and unstable roads to get us out safely.”
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Anastasia Chapman (@iamstais)
According to the caption, the wildlife guide confirmed the white rhino’s behaviour as unusual, adding that the experience was one of his top 5 most dangerous encounters to date.
“Absolute insane day in nature and a reminder that we are only guests in these animals homes and territories.” writes Anastasia.

‘New fear unlocked’: Rhino attacks tourists on wildlife safari, jeep gets toppled
The rhino attack on tourists took place at the jaldapara national park in west bengal..
An SUV carrying a group of tourists in the Jaldapara National Park in West Bengal toppled after it was attacked by a rhinoceros Saturday. The incident took place during a wildlife safari when the tourists in the two jeeps were clicking photographs of a rhino.
However, soon a female rhino, along with her calf, charged towards one of the jeeps. The driver quickly reversed his vehicle but lost control and the jeep went off the road and overturned. This turn of events was captured on camera by someone on the other jeep that was behind them.
The Telegraph reported a woman suffered a fracture and everyone else on the jeep suffered minor injuries. While talking with The Telegraph , Mithun Biswas, the guide said, “We are fortunate that the rhino didn’t attack us the second time when the car toppled. We were all in shock”.
On Saturday, Akash Deep Badhawan, an Indian Forest Services officer, shared a video of the incident. Badhawan wrote, “I think it’s about time guidelines for safety and rescue in adventure sports are implemented in wildlife safaris across the country. Safaris are becoming more of adventure sports now! Jaldapara today!”.

Commenting on this tweet, a Twitter user wrote, “Yes.. Time that safaris are regulated. Have seen videos of gypsies being available close to tigers in parks putting stress on these wild animals. Tourism maybe helping generate revenue for protection of wild life, but there have to be clear rules. Off late, it’s stretching a lot.”
A similar video from Kaziranga National Park in Assam had gone viral in January. The video showed an aggressive rhinoceros chasing a wild safari jeep.

Watch: Angry Rhino Charges At Tourist Jeep In South Africa, Chases It For Over 1 Km
The rhino chased the jeep for over a kilometre while the driver frantically tried to drive as fast as he can through muddy roads..
The incident happened in the Greater Kruger National Park
A scary video has surfaced on Instagram where an angry rhinoceros charged at a jungle safari jeep and chased it a long way down the road. The incident happened when Anastasia Chapman was on a safari in South Africa's Greater Kruger National Park with her friends.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a white rhino feeding on grass stared in their direction and charged at them. The animal then accelerated to a gallop and aggressively started chasing them. The rhino chased the jeep for over a kilometre while the driver frantically tried to drive as fast as he could through muddy roads.
Latest Sightings - Kruger shared the video with a caption that read, ''Rhino charges car down the road.''

Describing the terrifying encounter Ms Chapman wrote on Instagram , ''Had the craziest experience with a temperamental rhino yesterday. He charged at us full send for over a kilometre, barreling at us for 3-4 mins straight. Our guide was driving as fast as he could through the extremely muddy and unstable roads to get us out safely.
This behaviour definitely isn't normal and our guide said it was one of his top 5 most dangerous animal encounters to date. Absolute insane day in nature and a reminder that we are only guests in these animals' homes and territories.''
The video is going viral, and people were left shocked after watching the clip. Reacting to the clip, one user wrote, ''This has just shattered my myth where I usually presumed that I could out-run Rhinos. When I read the statistics that say there are more humans killed by Rhinos than by Lions; It usually made me wonder because I have also pictured Rhinos to be slow and would be easily fatigued by their weight. Well, how wrong I had been.''
Another commented, ''We need to just let them be and not get close. Poor creatures. Humans r way too intrusive. We have caused so much pain and suffering Esp towards these incredible creatures!'' A third added, ''Legend has it that he's still chasing them.''
A few days ago, a similar video from Jaldapara National Park in West Bengal showed tourists clicking photographs of rhinos when the animal suddenly charged at their open jeep. The driver hastily drove the vehicle backwards, and subsequently, the jeep fell into a pit.

He's got the hump! Camel chases off rhino at Longleat Safari Park
A three-ton rhino throwing its weight around at the Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire was sent packing by a feisty Bactrian camel looking after its newborn daughter. The notoriously bad tempered rhino even suffered the indignity of a bite on its retreating rump as the fearless camel chased it round the park.
Proud father Dougie was looking after his daughter, Nikki, when the short-sighted white rhino strolled in too close for comfort.
As the calf took flight, the protective father leaped into action and a high speed chase ensued, leaving Marashi the white rhino a little red-faced.
Fortunately, with both species being endangered in the wild, it was only the rhino's pride that was damaged.
