Shania Twain, in Seattle concert, shows why she’s a legend

Concert review.

Shania Twain might not be the reigning queen of country in 2023, but she proved Saturday night in front of a packed house at Climate Pledge Arena that she is deserving of another moniker: living legend.

The last time Twain visited Seattle , in 2015, Barack Obama was president and the arena still went by KeyArena. It’s been a productive eight years for Twain, who has since released two albums including this year’s “Queen of Me” and just finished up a Las Vegas residency that began in 2019.

After getting the tour started in Spokane on Friday, Twain seemed full of energy and gratitude as she took two hours to blast through some of her biggest hits and plenty of new songs — something that was missing from her set eight years ago, when her last album was 2002’s “Up!” The new material helped ensure the show wasn’t just about the past but was firmly rooted in the present, which might have explained why there were a surprising number of younger fans in the crowd.

Fellow Canadian Lindsay Ell got things started with an impressive, tight set that included “I Don’t Love You” and “Criminal.” Throughout, Ell, who hosts “Canada’s Got Talent,” showed off some impressive guitar chops as she noted she was especially excited to be visiting the birthplace of Jimi Hendrix.

Taking the stage promptly at 8:20, Twain got things started with a new song, “Wake Up Dreaming,” and there was an immediate fear that perhaps her voice had changed significantly due to a noticeable amount of autotuning. It would have been understandable, given that Twain was forced to retire for several years following a Lyme disease diagnosis that apparently caused damage to her vocal cords , but thankfully it was an effect specific to the song.

By the time she launched into her 2002 hit “I’m Gonna Getcha Good” a few minutes later, all was right and she had the seemingly sold-out crowd in the palm of her hand. A few songs later, the nostalgia hit even harder with a pitch-perfect version of “You’re Still the One,” and the good vibes carried over to her latest single, “Giddy Up!”, which showed that Twain still knows how to write an infectious pop-country hit.

She hit her stride with “Honey, I’m Home,” another song from her seminal 1997 album “Come On Over,” which has sold more than 40 million copies and holds the record for most sales by a solo female artist , according to Guinness World Records.

Though she could have easily stuffed the entire show with nothing but old hits and singles, Twain didn’t shy away from including numerous songs from her new album, and it was great to see her so energized by her new music. “Last Day of Summer,” “Inhale/Exhale Air” and “Number One” might have sounded a bit more like modern country-pop but fit right in with older favorites like “Rock This Country!” and “Party for Two.”

In an era when many artists choose to overwhelm their audiences with a constant barrage of visual stimuli, it was refreshing to see Twain perform a relatively stripped-down show. Unlike in 2015, she didn’t spend time flying about suspended by a crane, and she only executed one very meaningful costume change when she came out for the encore.

After closing out her main set with “Queen of Me,” Twain traded in her cutoff shorts for a flowing tuxedo gown and a top hat and gave the delirious crowd a final chance to keep the party going with ‘90s favorites “That Don’t Impress Me Much” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!”

Shania Twain: Forever and For Always Queen of Country Pop

Shania Twain: Forever and For Always Queen of Country Pop

Shania Twain w/ Lindsey Ell Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle, WA 04.29.23

It has been five years since Shania Twain graced the PNW with her presence, and the packed Climate Pledge Area proves her fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of the Queen of Country Pop. The Queen Of Me Tour was well worth the wait.

The show kicked off with Lindsey Ell’s high energy and edgy country rock performance. She shared how her love of Jimmi Hendrix (which led to naming her dog in his honor) has forever forged a deep connection with Seattle. Rocking lime green nail polish to match her guitar strings, Ell is not only an effortlessly cool girl, but also talented beyond measure. She had the crowd bellowing along to ‘good on you’, a song written post breakup, and the energy and excitement ramped up. If that wasn’t enough, her badass guitar skills even further wowed the arena – It’s not everyday you see someone expertly shredding upside down. Ell set the tone for an evening of iconic performances.

The crowd, a beautiful bouquet of leopard print, cowboy boots, and glitter fringe, excitedly waited for Twain to take the stage. In true Twain fashion, the concert started with an unexpected twist as she surprised the guests by popping up in the middle of the floor seats to ‘Waking Up Dreaming’.

Twain performed a mix of classic favorites across her previous five albums, and new songs from her latest Queen Of Me album. She explained how she wrote her latest songs to encourage laughter, celebrate joyful moments, and simply enjoy life. She particularly wrote ‘Giddy Up’ to cheer herself up when she needs a little extra pep in her step. Pair that with a lasso dance move from her charismatic supporting performers,  and it was impossible not to be swept up.

Twain followed up each one of her hits with another. Between songs she connected with the crowd and sprinkled in anecdotes. Warning the crowd, “Hope y’all are ready to do some shit kicking right now” before leading into a memorable rendition of ‘Whose bed have your boots been under?’

She previously received numerous requests for the following songs as she hadn’t performed them live on tour before, so she decided to make a medley compilation of some absolute crowd favorites – ‘Nah!’, ‘She’s not just a pretty face’, ‘Waiter! Bring me water!’, ‘When’, and ‘Thank you baby!’,  all in a perfectly curated composition.

For the encore Twain returned to the stage in the original outfit from the ‘Man I feel Like A Woman’ music video. The long black coat, iconic top hat, and mini dress were on loan from a museum exhibit. She shared how this costume has meant so much to her. Expressing gratitude to her fans as well, “Thank you so much for being with me after all these years, just like this”, gesturing to her outfit, “I feel like we are all, very old friends”. And with one final cue, she wrapped up the already impressive show with one final showstopper – Let’s go girls!

Shania Twain Kicks Off Fiery Final Tour in Seattle

By Robert Ham

A lot has changed in the worlds of pop and country since Shania Twain last released an album (2002’s Up! ) and last went out on tour. In that time, she’s witnessed the rise of crossover stars such as Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, as well as the chart-topping reigns of Miley Cyrus and Rihanna. Although she hasn’t been resting on her laurels, thanks to a two-year residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, it’s a wonder Twain waited until now to step back onstage and remind the rest of the world what she’s capable of.

If any of that was weighing on Twain’s mind when she took the stage at Key Arena in Seattle, Washington, Friday night to kick off her first U.S. tour in 11 years, the 49-year-old superstar sure didn’t let it show. In fact, the closest she came to acknowledging the female pop powerhouses of today was the Beyoncé-like bedazzled bodysuit she wore as she closed out the nearly two-hour show with a fierce version of her 1999 classic, “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!”

Outside of that wardrobe choice, the newly blonde Twain didn’t attempt to use this nationwide tour as a way to compete with the pop and country stars of today. Rather, she stayed true to herself, strutting around the stage confidently in a variety of other body hugging outfits and managing to appear humble amid the meticulously planned spectacle.

Everything else about the show was set up to live up to the tour’s name, Rock This Country. Twain’s sturdy, seven-piece band was decked out in all black attire, with an emphasis on leather. And during the superstar’s costume changes, the ensemble showed off their voluminous chops, rousing the crowd with bombastic guitar shredding instrumentals. The staging of the nearly two-hour set was pure arena rock overkill, with lots of pyrotechnics and a colorful laser light show.

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

The setlist, though, put the emphasis on Twain’s country side. After a raucous opening version of “Rock This Country!,” she settled into a stomping groove, running through fan favorites like the fiddle-heavy “Don’t Be Stupid” and a punchy take on her first country radio hit, “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?”

Lest anyone forget where Twain’s roots are planted, she and the band set up at the lip of the stage with acoustic instruments to add a little old-timey flavor to “No One Needs to Know” and the heartfelt “Today Is Your Day.” There was a little wink added to the countrified proceedings, as well: During the title track to her last album Up! , Twain mounted a fringed saddle that lifted in the air and took her in a long slow circle above the audience as she sang.

Between tunes, Twain sounded downright awestruck at the rapturous response she was getting from the packed arena. Her between-song banter had an “aw shucks” charm to it, with her letting out lots of audible laughter. And prior to her skyward saddle ride, she spoke haltingly about losing all of her confidence a few years ago, and called her return to the stage nothing short of a miracle. It was a wonderfully humanizing moment rarely seen in a concert of this size.

Shania Twain Roars Back to the Stage at 2023 ‘Queen of Me’ Tour Launch [Pictures]

Shania Twain launched her 2023 Queen of Me Tour like an actual rocket ship on Friday night (April 28) in Spokane, Wash. Twain's career-spanning set at the Spokane Arena left no stone unturned, including hits from every era of her decades-long career, as well as some songs she hasn't performed live in years.

Twain's show began with one of her newer songs, "Waking Up Dreaming," and ran through all of the hits fans expect from the country superstar, including “Up!,” “Don’t Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)” and “I’m Gonna Getcha Good.”

"Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under,” “Any Man of Mine,” “From This Moment On,” “You’re Still the One” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much" were also part of Twain's packed set, and she also incorporated songs from her latest album, Queen of Me , including “Giddy Up!,” “Inhale/Exhale Air” and “Number One.”

According to a press release, one of the highlights of Twain's show was a medley of songs that she has not performed in decades, including “Nah!,” “She’s Not Just a Pretty Face,” “Waiter! Bring Me Water!,” “When,” “Thank You Baby!” and “Party for Two."

Twain performed in front of a colorful backdrop of a rocket ship that took fans on a trip to Twain Town and its saloon. The elaborate stage set, as well as a number of eye-catching costume changes, made for one of the biggest productions of Twain's career to launch her first tour in nearly five years, which follows a successful Las Vegas residency.

Lindsay Ell joined Twain as her support act for the show in Spokane. Hailey Whitters, Breland, Kelsea Ballerini, Robyn Ottolini, Priscilla Block and Mickey Guyton are all slated to join her on various upcoming dates.

Twain also marked the opening night of her tour with the release of Queen of Me (Royal Edition) on Friday. The expanded edition of her latest studio album includes five new tracks: “Bone Dry,” “Wanted Man,” and re-imagined versions of “Inhale/Exhale Air" (featuring Breland),” “Queen of Me” and “Giddy Up!”

Twain's tour continues Saturday night (April 29) in Seattle, Wash., and it will run through Nov. 14, playing more than 80 dates across the world. Scroll through the pictures below to see highlights from opening night.

Shania Twain is a Canadian country music singer-songwriter originally from Ontario who is often affectionally referred to as "The Queen of Country Pop".

After Shania, real name Eileen Edwards graduated from Timmins High in June 1983 she quickly began her pursuit of a musical career after being involved with musicians and bands during her studies. She began experimenting with music yet following the tragic death of her mother and stepfather in a car accident she returned to her hometown to care for her younger siblings.

It was a number of years later that she released her solo album titled 'Shania Twain' through Mercury Nashville records which went on to chart at #67 on the US Country Charts. From this album, Shania's fame and success simply sky rocketed at an alarming pace that nobody could quite predict. 'The Woman in Me' debuted at #5 on the US charts and #6 in Canada, it featured a selection of country hit singles such as 'The Woman in Me (Needs the Man in You)', 'Any Man of Mine' and 'You Win My Love'. In total it featured six number one Country singles and two other top ten hits. It holds a two times diamond selling certificate in Canada and twelves times platinum selling in the States.

Her next album 'Come On Over' was an even greater success. It features two global hits of the 1990s, 'You're Still The One' and 'That Don't Impress Me Much' which charted around the world and turned Shania Twain into a household name. This album holds a twenty times platinum selling certificate in the US, a twelve times platinum in the UK and another double diamond in Canada. It is the highest selling Country album of all time. Shortly after the release of her 2002 album 'Up!' Shania was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame due to her huge musical success.

Her next album has been delayed for a number of years, she has since released a Greatest Hits package which featured three new tracks and in 2011 she reappeared with her first single in six years 'Today Is Your Day'. To date Twain has sold 85 million albums worldwide making her one of Country music's most successful female artists of all time.

Live reviews

Queen of country pop, Shania Twain, certainly knows how to put on a show. Currently a resident performer at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Shania is a real crowd pleaser.

This May I paid the venue a visit and boy did I enjoy the show! The opening number is truly spectacular. Three electric guitars jam along to the intro ‘Man I Feel like a Woman’ as strobe lights flash against a backdrop screen showing fire and explosions. Slowly, giant letters spelling the name ‘SHANIA’ descend from the ceiling. Then comes the distinctive trumpet blare and Twain announces in her trademark sultry tones, ‘let’s go girls!’ Stunning! What an opening to get the crowd going!

The show continues in a similar vein, with equally pleasing renditions of ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ and ‘I’m Gona Getcha Good.’ This show is guaranteed to get you singing and dancing along. I especially enjoyed the chance to let loose to my favourite tunes from my ’90s childhood!

Twain managed to lend the show an intimate feel in the huge arena, chatting to the audience between songs. The country queen even throws her hat into crowd during the final number, inviting whoever catches it to meet her backstage after the show! Shania Twain’s Caesar’s Palace show is one of the most fun nights out I’ve ever had and I’d thoroughly recommend checking it out.

Watching Shania Twain perform live is like watching an icon. Perhaps because it is watching an icon. Shania Twain is, without a doubt, the queen of Country. Hailing from Ontario, Canada, Twain has made a massive name for herself in the music industry and is one of the most famous names in Country music. Her style is really more Country pop, and her songs are catchy and fun. Even her ballads are catchy and her voice is undeniably beautiful and authentic. She performed all her greatest hits, including the massive ‘Man, I Feel Like a Woman’ (which opened the show on a great note), ‘You’re Still the One’ and the highly anticipated ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’. The latter song was met with a tremendous uproar as the crowd went wild and started singing along so loudly and robustly that the entire venue was trembling with the force of it. Shania was accompanied with a team of brilliant musicians. The violinists were particularly brilliant. Shania herself owned the stage, running around and singing with such enthusiasm and confidence.

It's rumoured nothing impresses Shania Twain very much but luckily for her fans the live show impresses them plenty. The Canadian singer/songwriter is one of the world's highest selling female artists of all time with a universal appeal so as you can imagine, the touring obligations are pretty serious when you have a fanbase this large to reach.

Unfortunately her appearances in the UK are often dwarfed by her commitments to the States although when she does appear on the British isles, the fans turn out in force. She is an unarguable diva with a stage presence all of her own, she commands everybody else onstage including the musicians, the dancers and even some of the technical crew. Then you take a glance at the hit laced setlist and realise she has 'Man! I Feel Like A Woman' '(If You're Not in It for Love) I'm Outta Here!' 'Come On Over' and 'You're Still the One' to keep the crowds singing, dancing and cheering along with effortless ease.

Fun Concert. Tons of ladies in the audience for a girls night out feel, still some guys though. Shania's male band members were on stage at times for that extra feel. You can't help but dance by a few songs. From her earlier days to mid-career hits and a few later, the pickings were getcha good. When it comes to props, she was "going up" and I enjoyed her outfit changes and some pre-recorded screen coverage of her beautiful in satin. "I feel like a woman!" It was a great concert to celebrate my birthday in my prime. Boots for myself would have enhanced mirroring the event!

I had the best time of my life she was everything I expected and more it was a present for my 65th birthday and I certainly wasn't disappointed I loved every minute of it it was absolutely fantastic I couldn't walk after it for a couple of days but it was worth it I've waited 20 years to see her and she was as good as the day she started out and just as beautiful can't wait to see her again could have stayed there all night and we just got home from New Jersey that morning love love loved it

five outta five stars

She has NOT her style! From the moment she stepped out on stage she kept the momentum goin! The highlight was a polish guy proposed to his NOW fiancee twice once in Polish and then in English! They stayed "Up!" there for "You're Still The One" which is really sweet! From This Moment On was another beautifully song sung perfectly by the 1999 CMA Entertainer of the year! It's no wonder why she's Billboards #1 tour!

Her female drummer was HOT!! She can play with any guy out there hands down!!! I’ve been a Shania fan ever since she first came out years and years ago and this concert did nothing but make me a BIGGER fan!! 5 star rating easily

It was an awesome show. I love the fact that she entered through one of the seating sections and surprised the audience. The stage was visually spectacular with huge LED box screens and a great drummer and musicians.

She had amazing dancers who were also back up singers. The music was great and as always Shania sounded and looked spectacular. Even my husband loved the song. ❤❤

Beyond AMAZING! The energy level, the stage production, the dancers, the musicians, the opening act, and definitely the star herself

made the evening memorable. Loved the way Shania "connected" with the audience. Just wish the musicians names and hometowns were shared. Even if it was credits that scrolled at the end. Entertainer of the Year award worthy performance!

Shania Twain announces tour stop in Seattle

Twain has apologized for saying if she were American she would have voted for Donald Trump for president, even though he's offensive. SEATTLE — Shania Twain is coming to Seattle. Does that impress you much?

The five-time Grammy Award-winning singer announced Friday her "Queen of Me Tour" will stop at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 29. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Nov. 4 on Ticketmaster.

Twain's new album, "Queen of Me," will be released on Feb. 3.

Prior to her Seattle show, Twain opens the tour in Spokane on April 28. Following her Washington state stops, Twain heads to Vancouver, BC, Edmonton and Calgary to kick off a slate of Canada concerts.

The global tour wraps up on July 26 in the United Kingdom.

The Canadian-born singer is the best-selling female artist in country music history, Climate Pledge Arena highlighted in a press release.

“Let’s go girls," the Seattle Center arena wrote. "The Queen has returned."

Shania Twain's Global QUEEN OF ME Tour Kicked Off Last Night

Let's go, girls! Last night, five-time GRAMMY️ Award-winning singer, best-selling female artist in country music history, and Queen of all Queens, Shania Twain , kicked off the first leg of her highly anticipated global Queen of Me Tour in Spokane, WA at Spokane Arena.

The show began with the energetic opening chords of "Waking Up Dreaming," bringing the sold-out crowd to their feet. As they sang, clapped, and danced along, there was something missing from the stage: Shania herself! When the chorus rolled around, the Queen made her grand surprise entrance and emerged from the stands to a roaring crowd in a fabulous jaw-dropping outfit.

As she ventured onto the stage, Twain was ready for take-off. The screens were entrenched with colorful, other-wordly visuals and showcased a rocketship initialed "ST" serving as the on-screen centerpiece. The rocket wasn't the only thing serving - Twain's setlist definitely impressed us much! Her neon saloon party was soundtracked with several crowd favorites including "Up!," "Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)" and "I'm Gonna Getcha Good."

The night continued with performances of several of Shania's iconic hits from over the years including "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under," "Any Man Of Mine," "From This Moment On," "You're Still The One," and "That Don't Impress Me Much," and left absolutely no crumbs. The Queen also performed songs off her latest album, Queen of Me, including "Giddy Up!," "Inhale/Exhale AIR," and "Number One." What really slayed the house down was the fan-favorite medley of songs she hasn't performed in decades: "Nah!," "She's Not Just A Pretty Face," "Waiter! Bring Me Water!," "When," "Thank You Baby!," and "Party For Two" - SHEESH!

With a galactic trip to Twain Town's infamous saloon - complete with collapsing buildings in the desert and royal disco parties - the show's elaborate set design is the brainchild of the Queen herself. Shania collaborated with creative producer Cory FitzGerald (Adele, Blackpink, Kendrick Lamar) and BLINK's Tom Colbourne and Rupa Rathod (Katy Perry, Carrie Underwood , Doja Cat) to put together the fabulous production and stunning screen graphics.

To celebrate the start of her global tour, Shania also graced us with the Queen of Me (Royal Edition) yesterday - listen HERE . The expanded edition features 5 new tracks including "Bone Dry," "Wanted Man," and re-imagined versions of "Inhale/Exhale AIR (feat. Breland)," "Queen of Me," and "Giddy Up!" Not to mention, "Giddy Up!" has spent five weeks in the Top 10 at AC Radio, making it Shania's biggest radio placement since 2005's Greatest Hits album. Once again, she's at the top of the charts alongside some of the biggest names in the world, including Miley Cyrus , Taylor Swift , Harry Styles , Elton John and Britney Spears !

Lindsay Ell also joined Shania last night and will continue touring with her on several dates. Leg one's stacked lineup includes Hailey Whitters, Breland, Kelsea Ballerini , Robyn Ottolini, Priscilla Block, and Mickey Guyton.

The Queen of Me Tour marks one of Shania Twain 's biggest tours to date with more than 80 dates across the globe this year. This is also her first tour in nearly five years, following a highly successful residency run in Las Vegas last year.

The tour continues tonight with a show in Seattle, WA at Climate Pledge Arena before continuing across North America and Europe, hitting Vancouver, Nashville, Montreal, New York, New Orleans, London, Glasgow, and more. Shania will then embark on the second leg of the tour in October for another round of shows around North America. All tour dates are listed below - tickets are available here: https://www.shaniatwain.com/tour

With so many more surprises lined up for the rest of the tour - including eclectic outfit changes every night - Shania Twain is making sure her live-show lives rent-free in everyone's minds. So look under your beds, dust off those cowboy boots, and Giddy Up! to a venue near you!
