The magic of a cruise vacation is created with culinary delights, exotic ports of call, comfortable accommodations, carefully curated spaces and, of course, parties. These onboard celebrations can take many forms: large dance parties and quiet lounges, family-friendly and adults-only, adrenaline-pumping and relaxing activities, elegant and come-as-you-are events, and entire ships transformed into themed cruises.

Prepare for fun times on the following ships hosting the best party cruises at sea.

Royal Caribbean: Oasis of the Seas

Explore the eastern and western Caribbean aboard Oasis of the Seas , one of the largest cruise ships in the world. On this 6,771-passenger vessel, 18 decks of fun and 2,109 crew members await your next voyage.

— Bionic Bar: For late-night parties where “mixology meets technology,” order cocktails from unexpected bartenders: robots! These two specialized tech creations are well-versed in classic alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails, and they can also mix a bespoke drink designed by you.

— Adrenaline-pumping amenities: Get ready for day and night thrills at four separate venues. Ripcord by iFly is billed as the only skydiving simulator at sea; North Star allows cruisers to snap stunning photos from the tallest viewing deck found on any cruise ship; Sky Pad provides a virtual reality experience while patrons jump on a bungee trampoline; and the Ultimate Abyss, named the tallest slide at sea, plunges 10 stories down.

— Surprise events: Scattered throughout the ship are several surprise activities that pop up among the scheduled itinerary of events. Join a toga party; boogie at a disco brigade; dress for a masquerade party; or transport back in time at an ’80s-inspired extravaganza.

Carnival: Liberty

Cruise for two to 14 days through the Caribbean, Bahamas or Panama Canal on the 2,974-passenger Carnival Liberty . In addition to decks of party fun, cruisers can dine at eateries designed by famous chefs, watch live sports and movies under the stars, and enjoy activities with the kids.

— Sailaway Party/Mega Deck Party: Get the party started on launch day at the Sailaway Party, where all passengers can gather for music, dancing, drinks and smiles. Then, see everyone again at the open-air Mega Deck Party under the stars on the Lido Deck, complete with more dancing, games and giveaways.

— RedFrog Rum Bar and BlueIguana Tequila Bar: Taste the flavors of the tropics at these two popular venues for drinks, music and good times. Choose from a chill menu of cocktails and specialty beer while you stay cool by the pool.

— Fun and games: If parties with your friends include spirited competition, this is your ship. In addition to showing off your skills on the basketball court and obstacle-filled mini golf course, play cornhole, sign up for the scavenger hunt and compete in art games. Then, try your luck gambling in the casino, playing bingo, and joining the “Deal or No Deal” onboard game show.

— The Manor: Bring your dancing shoes and enter this two-level nightclub through a hall of glittery mirrors. Inside are drinks, music and the Festival Stage Acts — a collection of rotating comedy acts that change every few weeks.

Top Themed Cruises for 2024

When like-minded folks take over a cruise ship for an unforgettable gathering at sea, you get these top themed cruises for 2024.

Top Themed Cruises for 2024

Share this post:

Even if you’ve never considered a cruise before , it might be hard to resist the idea of being in a confined space with your favorite celebrity, band or author. That is exactly the idea behind a themed cruise. Like-minded folks take over a cruise ship for an unforgettable gathering at sea.

What is a themed cruise?

From knitting to New Age music, there is a themed cruise for just about every hobby or interest. A themed cruise is a designated sailing (typically just one departure per year) that offers special programming onboard centered around a theme like jazz or the show “Impractical Jokers.”

Some themed cruises are one-off events chartered by an individual or private organization. Others are meticulously curated festivals at sea that are held annually by companies that specialize in hosting themed voyages.

Top Themed Cruises for 2024

The idea is to not only enjoy the amenities of a cruise vacation but spend a few days learning from experts in their field or attend performances and Q&As with your idols. Themed cruises give passengers the unique chance to immerse themselves onboard with fellow fans while also sailing into ports.

Perks range from special commemorative photos or items; the chance to attend a meet-and-greet; and other special parties and events that are part of the price of your cruise.

Which cruise lines host themed cruises?

Any ship or cruise line could host a themed cruise. But there are certain lines that seem to offer more than others. Norwegian Cruise Line has a long-running partnership with Sixthman . This company has made a name for itself hosting festivals at sea, with more than 180 under its belt in the last 20-plus years.

Cunard Line is another cruise line that hosts themed cruises (known as “event voyages”) all year long. But these have an emphasis on arts and culture. Board these British ocean liners for a week of big band music, London theater, the symphony orchestra, or discussions with war veterans on their insightful Greatest Generation sailings, typically held around Veterans Day and Memorial Day.

River cruise lines have long hosted themed cruises, with seasonal Christmas markets departures. But more recently, river cruise lines are making the most of their destination access and intimate setting to host other theme cruises. These can range from wine to Black history.

Explore the website of your favorite cruise line for any special events in the coming year. Or you might see a themed cruise independently advertised by a band or artist you follow on social media.

Christmas on a Cruise

How do you book a themed cruise?

Themed cruises are bookable through a travel agent, the cruise line’s website, or the third-party host, whether that is Sixthman or a smaller organizer. Many in-demand themed cruises (typically annual festivals and big-name acts) sell out far in advance. So, it’s beneficial to be on a mailing list to book as soon as the sailing is available. Repeat passengers on the same themed cruise typically have first dibs with the ability to join a pre-sale.

Keep in mind that because of all the special perks and behind-the-scenes access offered on these sailings, themed cruises typically cost more than your average cruise vacation.

We thought we would see lots of celebrity homes, and we saw maybe a dozen. This is basically a ferry ride. It takes about 25 mins to get to the first house and you go by all the container ships, very boring. Not much to look at. Was hoping for a bit more content. Hard pass- spend your money elsewhere. On a positive note, the staff was super friendly. It’s too bad they don’t have more to work with! Read more Written April 10, 2024

The food and cocktails were very good, there are a good range of restaurants and bars. The crew and catering team went out of their way to give a good experience. The theatre was awesome, the shows very professional. The only issue I had was the music! During the day by the pool the music was very loud, I did mention a few times but nothing changed. It was also very loud in the martini bar, so much so one had to shout to have a conversation. Given the average age of passengers being pensioners this was unnecessary. Most people like to relax by the pool, many passengers mentioned they didn’t like it. Read more Written March 4, 2024

Screen Rant

New road house movie proves it’s time to remake tom cruise’s 36-year-old thriller with 9% on rotten tomatoes.

With the recent success of the 2024 Road House remake, a critically-panned Tom Cruise movie from 36 years ago could also benefit from a remake.

  • Modern reinterpretation of classic '80s movies, like the Amazon Prime Road House remake, can be successful and pave the way for more updates.
  • A Cocktail remake could improve on the original's flaws with strong lead, action, and romance, following the success of Road House.
  • Including a Tom Cruise cameo in a Cocktail remake could honor the original's legacy and capitalize on nostalgia for the '80s film.

The success of the Amazon Prime Road House remake perfectly demonstrates that a modern take on an oft-forgotten Tom Cruise movie from 36 years ago could also benefit from a modern reinterpretation. While far from perfect, Road House 's reviews are good enough to validate the remake's existence, while also paving the way for other classic '80s movies to receive the update treatment. Additionally, the Road House 2 tease , suggests the entertainment industry isn't quite done with modernizing classic action thrillers, further highlighting the potential for other '80s movie remakes.

Many of Tom Cruise's best movies are from the 1980s, but one movie in particular is among one of his most poorly received movies to date. As such, its legacy could actually benefit from a remake, as it isn't uncommon for remakes of classic movies to be better than the original. Furthermore, as demonstrated by the recent success of Top Gun: Maverick , it's very possible that a modern remake of the late '80s critical disaster in Cruise's filmography could benefit from a modern retelling. As such, one Cruise movie from the '80s needs a remake after Road House 's success .

All 11 Fight Scenes In Road House 2024, Ranked

Road house 2024's success proves a remake of tom cruise's cocktail movie could work, cocktail's similar vibe and setting are already perfect for a remake..

Based on the Heywood Gould novel of the same name, Cocktail sees Cruise as a New York City business student who takes up bartending in Jamaica to make ends meet. Filled with beautiful scenery and a unique cast of characters, Cocktail is unfortunately marred by a confusing message, as the movie's emphasis on Cruise's Brian Flanagan making money overshadows the forced love subplot between himself and Elisabeth Shue's Jordan Mooney. As such, a remake of Cocktail could work well since it would be the perfect chance to restructure its themes .

Cocktail 's remake would need a strong lead, compelling action, and believable romance to improve its predecessor's failures.

With a similar laid-back vibe combined with the ridiculousness of most '80s thriller movies , a Cocktail remake for modern audiences could maintain its unique Jamaican location and underdog protagonist, while blending it with modern romantic storytelling devices. Jake Gyllenhaal's Road House remake worked because it demonstrated that it was capable of keeping the good elements from the past, such as its location and hard-as-nails protagonist, while updating them with modern martial arts sensibilities and romantic storytelling. Cocktail 's remake would need a strong lead, compelling action, and believable romance to improve its predecessor's failures.

Cocktail's Divisive Legacy Would Give A Remake A Bigger Advantage Than Road House 2024

Road house needed to remain as faithful to its original movie as possible..

Cocktail isn't as fondly remembered as Road House , so a remake could be good for its legacy , and while the 1989 Road House isn't a critical darling, it still has a dedicated following that admires it greatly despite its flaws. As such, the remake needed to remain somewhat faithful to it. Cocktail is not as beloved, so a competent remake might actually be better for a proposed remake. Aside from possible cameos by Cruise and Shue, virtually nothing from the original Cocktail would need to be in a remake, which is a stark difference from Road House .

Who Could Play Tom Cruise's Character In A Cocktail Remake?

Just as Jake Gyllenhaal has proven to be a worthy replacement for Patrick Swayze's original iconic Dalton , there are plenty of candidates who could fill Tom Cruise's shoes in a Cocktail reboot. In the 1988 movie, Cruise's Brian is typified by his youthful charisma and hot-headedness . While he is ultimately driven by his dream of having his own string of successful franchise bars, he is also impulsive and motivated by his passionate relationship with Elizabeth Shue's Jordan . Throughout the story, he looks up to the older Doug as a source of inspiration – despite problematic aspects to his personality.

Road House 2024 Ending Explained

Because of Brian's arc, the ideal replacement would be someone youthful enough to be believable as a man at the start of his professional journey with a track record of portraying difficult relationships with mentor figures. After his performance in Top Gun: Maverick , Miles Teller could be a great option , and would be a satisfying nod to Cocktail 's Cruise-centric origins. Another choice could be Spider-Man star Tom Holland , who has both shown himself capable of embodying a difficult mentor/mentee relationship with Tony Stark and also displayed his bartending skills in Uncharted . Both candidates could bring something unique and interesting to Brian.

Tom Cruise Could Still Appear In A Cocktail Remake

Unlike Road House , which was sadly limited by Patrick Swayze's untimely passing in 2009, a Cocktail remake could potentially feature a cameo from original star Tom Cruise. Given Cruise's age, it would not make sense for him to return and play Brian Flanagan again – unless the film took a completely different approach to the story. However, including Cruise in a brief cameo could be a great way for a Cocktail remake to honor the original's legacy while progressing the story forward.

By necessity, Road House almost entirely avoided explicit ties to the original film. Although Gyllenhaal and Swayze's characters share the same name, there is no room for other returnees like Sam Elliott's Wade Garrett . While this helps the film distinguish itself from its predecessor, it also means that it fails to fully capitalize on the potential of nostalgia. Cocktail may not have been as critically successful as Road House , but the movie's notoriety and contemporary box office success means that a Tom Cruise cameo can help a remake acknowledge its surprising impact.

Road House (2024)

Road House is a remake of the original 1989 film, which followed protagonist Dalton, a Ph.D. educated bouncer at the roughest bar in the south known as the Double Deuce. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Dalton, with two major changes including Dalton being a retired UFC fighter and the bar locale being in the Florida Keys.

The Mexican Caribbean Serves Up Beauty and Adventure for the 2024 SI Swimsuit Issue

Here’s what to eat, see and do while visiting the breathtaking tropical paradise.

Cara O’Bleness | 5 Hours Ago

Mexican Caribbean waters

For its 2024 issue, the SI Swimsuit team traveled to the Mexican Caribbean for a photo shoot with brand stars Brooks Nader , Lauren Chan and Ellie Thumann . Nicole Williams English , SI Swimsuit’s 2023 Rookie of the Year, and ’24 rookies Jena Sims , Lori Harvey and Achieng Agutu were also photographed in the tropical paradise.

Quintana Roo, a Mexican state on the Yucatán Peninsula, is home to destinations such as Cancún, Isla Cozumel, Riviera Maya and others. The region is rich in Mayan history, and the islands offer clear, turquoise waters, gorgeous beaches, archeological sites, cenotes, lagoons and more.

“I had never been to Cancún before, so comparing it to different parts of Mexico I’ve been to, such as Cabo, it was so interesting to see how green and tropical it really was,” Thumann says of the location. “It’s definitely my new favorite place to visit in Mexico!”

Stunning cabana seating

Outside of the white sandy beaches the area is known for, the islands of the Mexican Caribbean also feature diverse landscapes, including lush forests and tropical jungles. The vibrant location is home to a variety of wildlife, including dolphins, toucans, armadillos, jaguars, spider monkeys, whale sharks and sea turtles.

Whether you’re looking to relax and unwind or enjoy some adventure during your stay, there’s something for you in the Mexican Caribbean. The islands offer a unique combination of natural beauty and activity suitable for each and every type of traveler.

How to get to the Mexican Caribbean

When traveling by air, visitors can fly into the area’s major airports, including Cancún International Airport, Cozumel International Airport, Chetumal International Airport and Tulum International Airport. The Cancún International Airport is the most popular in the area and offers direct flights to and from areas in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Latin America. Once travelers have arrived, they may opt to rent a car, hail a taxi or take a shuttle bus to various destinations along the coast.

If traveling by sea, visitors may choose to arrive via cruise ship ports in Cozumel Island and Mahahual.

Gorgeous views at Impression by Secrets Isla Mujeres

While the best time to visit the Mexican Caribbean is during the dry season, which runs from November to April, frugal travelers may opt to book their trip during the spring and fall off-season months, when prices are more affordable and the islands are less crowded. If possible, avoid booking travel during the rainy season of June through October, but know that the tropical temperatures year round average between 70 F° to 90 F°, so there’s truly no bad time to visit the islands.

Team Cocktail

Our Mission

In the beginning, there were 28 friends, 8 days, 7 Caribbean Islands, and a Ship. With a boatload of liquid inspiration and a nameless group the brainstorming began, and thus, the most obvious name was born. We then treated it as our baby... our sweet little vodka/rum/local beer baby, Team Cocktail. Our Team has grown a lot since then, but we continue to live the same; Traveling Globally, Drinking Locally.

Following the alcohol-infused naming our group, we proceeded to always refer to our travel-group as ‘Team Cocktail.’ Unintentionally drawing attention of others, with large, fun-filled gatherings at sail-away and boisterous rounds of shots at the disco, people started asking the question... “What’s Team Cocktail?” Our response, “We’re a group of friends that like to have fun, and travel together.” Which was always followed by the “How do I join the Team?” question.

We had an epiphany a few martinis in as we sailed away from Barbados; Life is best enjoyed in a t-shirt, shorts, flip-flops, surrounded by your favorite people, with a drink in hand. This was the answer, T-Shirts! In the islands, 100% cotton souvenir t-shirts are the norm. We had them! They shrink once you wash them, they’re itchy, thick, and you typically won’t wear them again. But, we all buy them because we want a reminder of the fun times we’re having with our friends. So we thought, why don’t we make shirts that are high quality, comfortable, fun, and that represent the lifestyle that is “Team Cocktail.”

It was from there, that we decided to start our company, Team Cocktail. Creating high quality blended t-shirts, with fun and witty designs inspired by our experiences with our friends, as well as hats, sweatshirts, boozies, and other fun accessories. We’ve grown to be far more than an apparel brand; we’ve created a lifestyle. Group vacations, tailgate parties, and partnerships with country music artists are just a few of the ways we’ve expanded our Team. We’re excited to see where it leads us next!

But with last year’s strikes forcing studios to roll out an abbreviated slate of new releases this summer, cinephiles might be relying on streaming services more than ever before to scratch their moviegoing itch.

Fortunately, Netflix has announced a robust collection of additions to its library that should keep film lovers of all stripes busy this month. The highest profile original release is “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver,” which is set to conclude the epic space opera storyline that Zack Snyder began in the first “Rebel Moon” movie. It’ll be accompanied by an eclectic mix of classic films from directors including Spike Lee, George Lucas, Nora Ephron, and Edgar Wright.

Keep reading for our seven favorite movies heading to Netflix this month.
