The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation the ‘Statue of Equality’ in Hyderabad today. The 216-feet tall Statue of Equality commemorates the 11th century Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya, who promoted the idea of equality in all aspects of living including faith, caste and creed. Governor Telangana  Smt Tamilisai Soundararajan, Union Minister Shri G. Kishan Reddy were among those present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion the Prime Minister greeted everyone on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami and expressed happiness on dedication of the statue on such a pious occasion.   He said “India is giving concrete shape to India’s human energy and inspirations through this grand statue of Jagadguru Sri Ramanujacharya. This statue of Sri Ramanujacharya is a symbol of his wisdom, detachment and ideals.”

The Prime Minister participated in the ‘Purnahuti’ of ‘Vishwaksena Ishti Yagya’. The Yagya is for fulfilment of resolutions and goals. The Prime Minister offered the ‘sankalpa’ of the Yagya for the ‘Amrit’ Sankalp of the country and dedicated the yagya to 130 crore countrymen.

The Prime Minister recalled the Indian tradition of its scholars that views knowledge above  rebuttal and acceptance-rejection. “If we have ‘advait’ then we have ‘dvait’ too and we also have Sri Ramanujacharya’s ‘Vishishtadvaita’ that encompasses both ‘davit-advait’”, said the Prime Minister. He noted that along with the pinnacle of gyan in Sri Ramanujacharya, he is the founder of Bhakti Marg too. One the one hand he is a saint of rich ‘Sanyaas’ tradition, he presents the importance of action in Gita Bhashya, on the other. The Prime Minister continued “In today's world, when it comes to social reforms, progressivism, it is believed that reforms will take place away from the roots. But, when we see Ramanujacharya ji, we realize that there is no conflict between progressiveness and antiquity. It is not necessary to go far from your roots for reforms. Rather it is necessary that we connect with our real roots, become aware of our real power.”

The Prime Minister elaborated on the link between the current measures and the wisdom of our saints. Sri Ramanujacharya made the country familiar with the real concept of social reforms and worked for Dalits and backwards. He said, today Sri Ramanujacharya is giving us the message of equality in the form of a grand Statue of Equality. Going along with this message, today the country is laying the foundation of its new future with the mantra of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas'. The Prime Minister emphasized that India, today, is working collectively for development of all without discrimination; social justice for all so that those who have been oppressed for centuries become partner with full dignity in the development of the country. Schemes like Pucca houses, Ujjwala connections, free medical treatment upto 5 lakh or the free electricity connections, Jan Dhan accounts, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan have strengthened Dalits, backwards and deprived.

The Prime Minister called Sri Ramanujacharya a ‘shining inspiration for the unity and integrity of India’. “He was born in the South, but his influence is on the whole of India from South to North and East to West”, he said.

The Prime Minister stressed that India's freedom struggle was not just a fight for its power and its rights. In this fight there was a 'colonial mindset' on one side, and the idea of 'live and let live' on the other. On the one hand, it was a hysteria of racial superiority and materialism, on the other hand it was a belief in humanity and spirituality. And in this battle India and its tradition were victorious, he said. “Indian Freedom struggle was blessed with the energy of equality, humanity and spiritualism that it received from the saints”, he added.

Referring to Hyderabad connection of Sardar Patel, the Prime Minister said “if Sardar Sahib's 'Statue of Unity' is repeating the oath of unity in the country, then Ramanujacharya's 'Statue of Equality' is giving the message of equality. This is the specialty of India as a nation.”

The Prime Minister elaborated on the richness of the Telugu culture and how it has enriched India’s diversity. He recalled the long traditions of kings and queen who were torchbearers of this rich tradition.  In the context of rejuvenation and recognition of India’s places of faith, the Prime Minister talked about 13th century Kakatiya Rudreshwara Ramappa temple being declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Pochampalli being recognized as India’s best tourism village  by the World Tourism Organization.

The Prime Minister noted the glorious contribution of the Telugu film industry which is making its presence felt globally and much beyond Telegu speaking areas.  “This creativity is reigning on silver screen and OTT platforms. It is being praised even outside India. This dedication of Telugu speaking people towards their art and culture is an inspiration for all”, the Prime Minister added.

The Statue is made of ‘panchaloha’, a combination of five metals: gold, silver, copper, brass, and zync and is among one of the tallest metallic statues in sitting position, in the world. It is mounted on a 54-ft high base building, named ‘Bhadra Vedi’, has floors devoted for a Vedic digital library and research centre, ancient Indian texts, a theatre, an educational gallery detailing many works of Sri Ramanujacharya. The statue has been conceptualised by Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami of Sri Ramanujacharya Ashram.

During the programme, 3D Presentation Mapping on the life journey and teaching of Sri Ramanujacharya was showcased. Prime Minister visited the identical recreations of 108 Divya Desams (ornately carved temples) that surround the Statue of Equality.

Sri Ramanujacharya worked tirelessly for the upliftment of people with the spirit of every human being equal regardless of nationality, gender, race, caste or creed. The inauguration of the Statue of Equality is a part of the 12-day Sri Ramanuja Sahasrabdi Samaroham, the ongoing 1000th birth anniversary celebrations of Sri Ramanujacharya.

PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022
PM @narendramodi — PMO India (@PMOIndia) February 5, 2022

telangana tourism statue of equality

telangana tourism statue of equality

telangana tourism statue of equality

telangana tourism statue of equality

telangana tourism statue of equality

PM Modi unveils 'Statue of Equality' in Hyderabad

Modi, who was on a half-day visit to the city, participated in worship at the venue at Muchintal on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

  • Updated Feb 05, 2022, 10:59 PM IST

The 'Statue of Equality' commemorates Ramanujacharya who promoted the idea of equality in all aspects of living, including faith, caste and creed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated a 216-foot statue of Ramanujacharya here and highlighted the 11th century saint's message of equality of all.

The 'Statue of Equality' commemorates Ramanujacharya who promoted the idea of equality in all aspects of living, including faith, caste and creed.

The Prime Minister participated in the Purnahuti' of Vishwaksena Ishti Yagya'. The Yagya is for fulfilment of goals.

He offered the sankalpa' of the Yagya for the Amrit Sankalp' of the country and dedicated the yagya to 130 crore countrymen.

Tridandi Srimannarayana Chinna Jeeyar Swamy of Sri Ramanujacharya Ashram conceptualised the statue.

Ramanujacharya demonstrated that social progress and remaining true to one's roots can go hand in hand, Modi said.

In today's world, when it comes to social reforms and progress, it is believed that reforms will take place away from the root. But, when we see Ramanujacharya, we realise there is no conflict between progressiveness and antiquity. It is not necessary to go far from your roots for reforms. Rather, it is necessary that we connect with our real roots, become aware of our real power," he said.

Ramanujacharya is giving the message of equality in the form of a grand Statue of Equality, he said.

He emphasised that the country today is working collectively for development of all without discrimination and social justice for all so that those who have been oppressed for centuries become partners in the development of the country.

Schemes like Pucca houses, Ujjwala connections, free medical treatment up to Rs five lakh or the free electricity connections, Jan Dhan accounts, and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan have strengthened Dalits, the backward and the deprived, he said.

Describing Ramanujacharya as a shining inspiration for the unity and integrity, he said the saint was born in the South but his influence is on the whole of South to North and East to West.

He said the freedom struggle was not just a fight for power and rights. In this fight, there was a colonial mindset on one side, and the idea of live and let live on the other, he said.

On the one hand, it was a hysteria of racial superiority and materialism and on the other hand, it was a belief in humanity and spirituality. And in this battle, India and its tradition were victorious, he said.

On the richness of the Telugu culture, he spoke about 13th century Kakatiya Rudreshwara Ramappa temple in Telangana recently being declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Pochampalli in the State being recognised as the best tourism village by the World Tourism Organisation.

Modi also spoke about the glorious contribution of the Telugu film industry which is making its presence felt globally and much beyond Telugu-speaking areas.

The statue is made of panchaloha', a combination of five metals: gold, silver, copper, brass, and zinc and is among one of the tallest metallic statues in sitting position.

It is mounted on a 54-foot high base building named Bhadra Vedi'. It has floors devoted for a Vedic digital library and research centre, ancient Indian texts, a theatre, an educational gallery detailing many works of Sri Ramanujacharya.

Ramanujacharya worked tirelessly for the uplift of people with the spirit of every human being equal regardless of nationality, gender, race, caste or creed.

The inauguration of the statue is a part of the 12-day Ramanuja Sahasrabdi Samaroham, the ongoing 1000th birth anniversary celebrations of Ramanujacharya.

Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, religious guru i Tridandi Srimannarayana Chinna Jeeyar Swami were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said: “Statue of Equality will encourage the youth. This statue of Ramanujacharya ji is a symbol of his knowledge, detachment, and ideals.”

Earlier in the day, Modi kickstarted the 50th anniversary celebrations of International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in Patancheru, Hyderabad . While speaking on the occasion, PM Modi said, “In the next few years, we want to take area usage in the palm oil sector to 6.5 lakh hectares…We’re focusing on food security as well as nutrition security. We’ve developed several bio-fortified varieties in the last seven years.”

He added, “To save our farmers from climate challenge, our focus is on the fusion of going back to the basics and marching to the future. Our focus is on more than 80% of small farmers of the country who need us the most. The Union Budget is focused on natural farming and digital agriculture.”

While referring to the steps taken to combat climate change, PM Modi further said, “India has set a target of Net-Zero by 2070. We have also called for a pro-planet people’s movement that is crucial to combat climate change and connects every individual with climate.”

Earlier, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Union Minister for Tourism G Kishan Reddy and Telangana Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav were among the VIPs who received Modi at the airport. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was conspicuously absent as Modi arrived.

A communication from the CMO had said Talasani Srinivas Yadav was nominated as the Minister-in-Waiting to receive and see off the Prime Minister during his visit. News agency PTI reported quoting sources in the Pragati Bhavan, Rao’s official residence, that the CM was not well and was “suffering from fever”.

Festive offer

However, Telangana BJP President Bandi Sanjay Kumar took strong exception to Rao’s absence at the airport, saying it was “shameful on the part of the CM” to give the occasion a miss.

“It is very much evident that the chief minister does not want to show his face to the Prime Minister, as the entire country was abhorring his filthy abuses hurled at the latter,” he said, PTI reported.

“Mr KCR, Is this your culture? You claim to have read 80,000 books. Is it what you have learnt from them?” he added.

Rao has recently criticised the Union Budget, calling it a ‘golmaal Budget’ which was a “betrayal” of the people of the country.  Alleging that both Congress and BJP have failed to make the country realise its potential, he had said he would make efforts towards bringing about “qualitative change”.

Modi is a “very short-sighted Prime Minister” as the Budget has proposed setting up an arbitration centre for dispute resolution in GIFT city in Gujarat though such a centre is already being established in Hyderabad, Rao had claimed.

PM Modi unveils ‘Statue of Equality’; lauds Telugu culture, tradition

telangana tourism statue of equality

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the ‘Statue of Equality’ at Chinna Jeeyar Swamy ashram in Muchintal on the city outskirts to the nation on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Modi said his government had been implementing several welfare schemes which were based on the principles of equality propagated by Sri Ramanujacharya and cited NDA government's schemes of Awaas Yojana, Ujwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat etc which benefitted all the poor and the needy in the country irrespective of their castes, creed or religion.

The 216-foot tall ‘Statue of Equality’ commemorates the 11th century Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya, who promoted the idea of equality in all aspects of living including faith, caste and creed. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy were among those present on the occasion.

The Prime Minister greeted everyone on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami and expressed happiness over the dedication of the statue on such a pious occasion. He said, “India is giving concrete shape to human energy and inspirations through this grand statue of Jagadguru Sri Ramanujacharya. This statue is a symbol of his wisdom, detachment and ideals.”

The Prime Minister participated in the ‘Purnahuti’ of ‘Vishwaksena Ishti Yagya’ for fulfilment of resolutions and goals. He offered the ‘sankalpa’ of the Yagya for the ‘Amrit’ Sankalp of the country and dedicated the yagya to 130 crore countrymen. “In today's world, when it comes to social reforms and progressivism, it is believed that reforms will take place away from the roots. But, when we see Ramanujacharya ji, we realise that there is no conflict between progressiveness and antiquity. It is not necessary to go far from your roots for reforms. Rather it is necessary that we connect with our real roots, become aware of our real power,” he said.

The Prime Minister elaborated the link between the current measures and the wisdom of our saints. He said, “Today, Sri Ramanujacharya is giving us the message of equality in the form of a grand ‘Statue of Equality’. Going along with this message, today the country is laying the foundation of its new future with the mantra of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas'. The Prime Minister also emphasised that “India, today, is working collectively for development of all without discrimination; social justice for all so that those who have been oppressed for centuries become partner with full dignity in the development of the country.”

The Prime Minister termed Sri Ramanujacharya a ‘shining inspiration for the unity and integrity of India’. “He was born in the South, but his influence is on the whole of India from South to North and East to West,” he said.

Referring to Hyderabad’s connection with Sardar Patel, the Prime Minister said, “If Sardar Sahib's 'Statue of Unity' is repeating the oath of unity in the country, then Ramanujacharya's 'Statue of Equality' is giving the message of equality. This is the specialty of India as a nation.”

The Prime Minister elaborated on the richness of Telugu culture and how it enriched India’s diversity. He recalled the long traditions of kings and queens who were torchbearers of this rich tradition. In the context of rejuvenation and recognition of India’s places of faith, the Prime Minister talked about the 13th century Kakatiya Rudreshwara Ramappa temple being declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Pochampalli being recognised as India’s best tourism village by the World Tourism Organisation.

He noted the glorious contribution of the Telugu film industry which is making its presence felt globally and much beyond Telegu speaking areas. “This creativity is reigning on the silver screen and OTT platforms. It is being praised even outside India. This dedication of Telugu speaking people towards their art and culture is an inspiration for all,” the Prime Minister added.

Jeeyar Swamy compared Modi's rule with Lord Rama's rule. Swamy said like Lord Rama, Modi was always standing by Dharma. He said under Modi rule, India had achieved global acclaim.

Union minister G. Kishan Reddy said like the Statue of Unity, the Statue of Equality would attract international attention and spread the message of equality across the globe.

The statue is made of ‘panchaloha’, a combination of five metals: gold, silver, copper, brass, and zinc and is among one of the tallest metallic statues in sitting position, in the world. It is mounted on a 54-ft high base building, named ‘Bhadra Vedi’, and has floors devoted for a Vedic digital library and research centre, ancient Indian texts, a theatre, and an educational gallery detailing many works of Sri Ramanujacharya. The statue has been conceptualised by Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami of Sri Ramanujacharya Ashram.

During the programme, 3D presentation on the life journey and teaching of Sri Ramanujacharya was showcased. Prime Minister visited the identical recreations of 108 Divya Desams (ornately carved temples) that surround the Statue of Equality.

Statue of Equality: Nearly 2,700 sculptors worked at the site

Hyderabad: Apart from the towering 216 feet tall statue of Sri Ramanuja, everything about the 108 Divya Deshas, the pillars and other structures around the statue is magnificent.

Over four lakh cubic feet of pink sandstone from Rajasthan was used for constructing the entry arches, ticket counters and other structures, nearly five lakh cubic feet of black pearl granite (Krishna Shila) from Kotappakonda and other places was used for constructing 108 Divya Deshas. About 75,000 cubic feet of black marble from Rajasthan was used for 468 pillars.

At peak stage of construction, nearly 2,700 sculptors worked at the site. Specialist sculptors from Mount Abu, who master in sandstone sculpture worked here and about 1,200 such sculptors were brought here. This apart, sculptors from Allagadda, Srirangam, Madurai, Tirupati, Mahabalipuram and other places constructed the 108 Divya Deshas.

Another striking aspect about the 108 Divya Deshas is that Purushila (a form of Krishna shila) was used for sculpting the 325 idols in these temples. The Purushila stone was sourced from Valajya, Kanchipuram and it was tested for its sound, before proceeding to sculpt the idols.

This apart, many Saligramas (holy stones associated with Lord Vishnu) were sourced from River Gandaki, Nepal and they were exchanged for the Saligramas used at the existing 108 temples across the country. All the pujas and rituals performed to the Saligramas at the existing temples would also be performed here at the 108 Divya Deshas, said Chinna Jeeyar Swamy.

This was done to establish cosmic connectivity between the existing 108 temples and the Divya Deshas constructed here for the benefit of devotees. People, who cannot visit the 108 temples across the country, can visit the 108 Divya Deshas and seek blessings, he said.

The 108 Divya Deshas are constructed replicating the sanctum sanctorum, gopurams, kalashas and the main idol existing at the 108 temples across the country.
