I was having difficulty trying to add…

I was having difficulty trying to add the discount code to my booking, so I had to report the issue to the online live chat. Being given advice and not being made to feel as though I was doing something wrong was very uplifting. While in the chat Rowanne the operator telephoned me and was very professional, sounding as if she really liked her job. If all operating staff are like Rowanne then TUI count yourselves very lucky. Thank you Rowanne.

Second booked holiday with TUI

Second booked holiday with TUI. Never had any problems before. Very straight forward booking procedure, plain and simple and had instant acknowledgment of payment and confirmation with emails. Even found the holiday I wanted at a great discounted price, which was shown on TUI’s own web site. Fingers crossed the holiday is as good as the booking.

We started off great

On my first visit the lady that assisted us was brilliant; she was helpful and informative. When we went back to actually book it was a different lady and she just wasn’t interested. My Dad is disabled and I asked about ground floor rooms and assistance at the airport which she said we could do (she didn’t) she was too busy on my Facebook trying to get likes for a competition. She invited all my friends which I didn’t consent to.

Things you need to know about resort

Things you need to know about resort Food excellent, room excellent roomy, big TV, big bathroom. Hotel is in the flight path so whilst sunbathing or having an afternoon nap you will see and hear the aeroplanes. Shop is a 10 minute walk if you need a newspaper. In house shop does not have food supplies or papers. You don't need to download hotel app as suggested, very difficult anyway and blocks your WiFi. If you get a room numbered 501/401/301 onwards you will have a long walk to the restaurant, infinity pool and bar area everyday, approx 800 steps. Not for the infirm. Something to do apart from excursions, taxi into Los Cristianos 33 euro going (due to one way system) 23 euro coming back. All inclusive best package, deluxe package is not worth the extra money as options given are limited and your room outlook is not great. Apart from the above a relaxing time has been felt.

Happy Holidays !!!

Never had a bad holiday experience or hotel booking with TUI Mostly book on line but my last holiday l booked in the shop & my online price was matched. Went into my local branch in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire & all I can say is the staff are very helpful & friendly, a credit to the company. 😊

Booking process was really easy

The TUI website is very informative and the booking process was really easy. It was helpful to be able to choose our seats at the same time and I was surprised at how many features of the holiday e.g. transfers and baggage were included in the price - I am so used to having to pay an additional fee when I book with other providers.

Your agent Philipa went above & beyond…

Your agent Philipa went above & beyond in February when she took full ownership of our booking in which we were due to go to Tenerife within two days but the hotel we booked was not finished like it should have been. Philipa showed nothing but kind care with huge empathy her knowledge on sorting our booking out within 30 minutes ! Was outstanding - she managed to get us into another hotel which was fabulous - we have now booked again to go back to the same hotel in May. Thank you Philipa you are a credit to TUI June & Mark

Hello June, Thanks for leaving us your feedback on our service that you received during an unfortunate change to your orginal plans. We pride ourselves on the service we continue to provide our customers so this is lovely to hear that despite change, you felt supported during this time. We thank you for booking with TUI and for continued support. We cannot wait to take you away on your much deserved holiday! Kind Regards and many thanks, Lucy Customer Support Team

17 hour delay

17 hour delay, put up in a hotel for the night full of cockroaches. Another holiday 6 hour delay on another holiday with not a single bit of compensation. Let's blame the weather, even though every other flight home went on time. Joke of a company who care very little about customers when there is a problem.

Date of experience : 29 July 2023

Hi Chris, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're always aiming to improve our service so it's great to get your feedback so we can monitor our customer satisfaction. I am sorry to hear you faced a delay on your recent flight with TUI. We pride ourselves on our normally high percentage of on time flights. We really want to get you on holiday and home as efficiently as possible and we would never delay your flights unnecessarily. Unfortunately, from time to time delays can happen and these can be for a number of reasons. I am also sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the overnight accommodation provided during the delay. If a flight is delayed or cancelled and we become aware that an overnight hotel is required, our resort team will do all they can to ensure accommodation is sourced so our customers have somewhere to stay. Accommodation will be sourced based on whatever is available at the time, and this may mean that it is not the usual high standard we would expect for our customers. As this would be provided on an emergency basis only then we would not be able to compensate for this, but apologise for any disappointment caused. Thanks again for reviewing us and letting us know your thoughts. We'll keep working towards making sure we're providing the best possible service. Kind Regards and many thanks, Lauren Customer Support Team TUI GROUP TUI UK & Ireland

Stress free travel

We have always found it very easy and stress free travelling with TUI. Hotels are readily available and the choices are wide. You are kept up to date on any information regarding your flight and transfer and more recently the TUI app is very handy and the services it provides.

Two Weeks In Paradise

Just back from two weeks in Costa Rica, our second visit and both with TUI - superb holiday! Both flights were very smooth and cabin crews were friendly and helpful. Stayed at RIU Guanacaste ( both times) and loved it. Nice hotel, good food, very friendly staff ( Typical of Costa Rica, the people are lovely) Room was very comfortable, facilities good and the grounds beautiful and full of wildlife ( my hobby is wildlife photography so I was very happy) We pre booked excursions with TUI and another at the resort via our rep. Our rep was very good, friendly and helpful and all in all no complaints at all - thank you.

Flying to the best places.

The staff at the Wood Green branch are fabulous, Adrian, and Marie have so much knowledge and experience. They are welcoming when I go in-store or speaking to them on the phone. They have got to know me over the years that I have been flying with TUI, they know my likes and dislikes, and give great advice.

Chesterfield TUI - Excellent

We like to support local shops when we can and call in the TUI Chesterfield branch whenever possible. They are always super friendly, helpful and make the whole experience a pleasure. They are also super competitive when it comes to price and can often compete with the internet prices.

Tui Blue Pioneer Beach Hotel in Cyprus

Tui Blue Pioneer Beach Hotel in Cyprus. Wow this hotel is amazing and the staff are the best i've ever known. So clean, everyone goes that extra mile, very helpful, only 15 mins from the airport, perfect location with its own little bay and a beautiful church nest door. We had a suite and it was faultless. Couldn't ask for anything more. The TUI reps were amazing and genuinely made you feel like friends, Sophie was an angel and so nice, plus Annalee, Sil, Klarka and Kayleigh. The waitresses were perfect, the kitchen staff and the bar staff were also so polite. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so special.

Best Airline I have ever flown with.

Top class service going and coming back from Barbados. I travelled Premium because as a disabled passenger I wanted comfort, which I surely got. The staff, from ground staff to the Captain, were excellent. I cannot fault them at all.

Almost 5 Star

Very straight forward web pages and easy to find what you are looking for. Would be more user friendly if you highlighted your frequent use of Easy Jet earlier in the booking process. And you appear to have deleted the ability to book a taxi for the airport transfer.

What are people saying about travel services in Glasgow, GLG?

This is a review for travel services in Glasgow, GLG:

"I'm always here keeping updates on flights to California, USA, destination LAX. Don't let all the other travel agents and shops fool you and rip you off. This is the cheapest place to get a flight to the USA by far. The staff are very helpful, and they will offer to not just book a flight, but search for accommodation, and cool muscle cars to hire to pick up from the airport over there. You can't miss this place on Gordon street. They advertise on the window as they are proud to show off how miles better than the competitors they really are. I used them loads, and never been let down."

Oyster Hotel Review

A mid-range victorian style hotel, popular among corporate travelers and tourists alike.

From its red-brick exterior, this historic hotel has plenty of reasons to draw guests of all stripes, from tourists to business travelers. The Alexander Thomson Hotel's lobby is smartly styled, with a decorative inlaid wooden reception counter, high ceilings, and gold-framed artwork. The on-site Alexander Bar is open until late, with an original varnished wood accent wall, brown antique leather couches and chairs, and large windows. The Alexander Breakfast Room is grand, with opulent ceiling moldings, plaid carpets and matching plaid upholstered high-back chairs (this is Scotland, after all). Arched doorways, gold chandeliers, and bronze satin curtains complete the picture.

In the heart of Glasgow city, walking distance from good transport links and high-end retail

The Alexander Thomson Hotel is centrally located, a two-minute walk from Glasgow Central Station and a 12-minute drive to Glasgow Airport. Guests arriving by car are a six-minute walk from discounted parking at Q-Park Jamaica Street. For art enthusiasts, the Gallery of Modern Art is a 10-minute walk and the Center for Contemporary Arts is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Lots of shopping is available on Buchanan Street, lined with major brands and boutique shops, a seven-minute walk from the hotel. For a traditional Glasgow pub, guests are an eight minute walk from the Horseshoe Bar and a six-minute walk from Sloans, which claims to be Glasgow’s oldest bar and restaurant, established in 1797.

Large, simple rooms with high ceilings and quality wooden furnishings

This hotel has 125 budget-friendly, homey rooms, with a multitude of configurations available including Deluxe and Executive Suites, Single, Double, Triple, and Quad rooms. All rooms are generous in size and simply decorated, with wooden headboards, high ceilings, hung artwork, large windows, and ample storage for guest luggage. In addition, some rooms include lounge areas with chesterfield style chairs and sofas. All rooms include satellite channels on flat-screen TVs, ironing facilities, free Wi-Fi, central heating, air-conditioning, and electric kettles. Tan-tiled bathrooms feature shower/tub combos or stand-up showers with rainfall showerheads, wall-mounted hair dryers,  limited vanity space, and toiletries. Fixtures are varied, though, and higher category bookings have bathrooms with heated towel racks and bidets. There are some smoking rooms available, and guests worried about lingering smoke smells should check ahead with the hotel about their room. Additionally, noise from neighboring bars and nightclubs may be an issue in some rooms.

Free buffet breakfast in a grand Victorian-style room, on-site bar, and free Wi-Fi

There are lots of freebies at the Alexander Thomson Hotel, including free Wi-Fi and a buffet breakfast with traditional Scottish favorites. Breakfast is served daily in the opulent Alexander Breakfast Room, with original Victorian features and nice decor including tartan rugs and matching tartan upholstered chairs. Lunch and dinner are not served. The cozy on-site Alexander Bar (with lots of leather couches for lounging) is open until late and reception is staffed 24/7. There is no on-site parking, and no business or fitness facilities available. Elevator access is available to all floors, an uncommon feature in historic hotels.

Alexander Thomson Hotel Glasgow (Review)

Visiting the concert of the US country band “Midland”, I had the opportunity to stay in the quite central Alexander Thomson Hotel in Glasgow for the second time. The hotel is operating in the budget price sector, but offers very reasonable accomondation. Here is my review.

thomson travel shop glasgow reviews

Alexander Thomson Hotel – Location

The hotel is beautifully located close to the heart of Glasgow. Glasgow Central station is only a short walk away and there are restaurants and minor supermarkets in the area. You can cross a tunnel underneath the railway tracks and directly arrive at the shopping and entertainment area of Glasgow.

Alexander Thomson Hotel – Room

The room I booked was 51 GBP for one night, a weekend stay in December. The price is really hard to beat. The room is equipped with anything you would expect, even including an ironing board. The room was not really large, as you can also see at the built-in-the-wall cupboard. The chair was pretty useless, as it barely fits between table and bedding. The positioning of the power plugs was a bit strange. You have to explicitly state that the rate even includes breakfast.

The room was abit run-down with some maintenance problems. The most obvious defect was the rusty screw shower tab holder (where already one screw has been gone).

Alexander Thomson Hotel – Breakfast

The breakfast room is a beautiful piece of architecture. It is likely the most beautiful part of the hotel. The breakfast is quite what you would expect in this price range. The hot breakfast buffet even exceeds the expectations with some oriental bread and lovely (i.e. intensively) seasoned potatoes. The bread and cereal selection is a bit more on the limited side. On previous stays, the breakfast areas tends to become a bit chaotic in peak times – but now the staff felt to be very motivated and focused on their service.

Alexander Thomson Hotel – Services

Apart from the breakfast area, there is also a hotel bar on the same floor. As said before, the area feels quite cozy. There is a 24 hour reception and a luggage storage, which you would likely expect. The WiFi was free and worked quite well – however, you had to log in twice after you entered a password – this felt to be a bit over-protected. Reception staff was nice, though I had better memories of my previous stay.

Alexander Thomson Hotel – My View

I love the location of the hotel. The accommodation is rather simple, but the staff is good and really seems to improve their processes. Unfortunately, the rooms are quite run down – but the prices are very competitive as well. Thus I feel that Alexander Thomson offers a very reasonable package when you want to stay in Glasgow. Especially as a single traveler, the room size is just fine. If you rather feel like taking one of the more posh options – some of them are even more outside the city center.

http://www.thomson.co.uk/editorial/faqs/flights/checking-in.html

I would concur with aiming to get there 3 hours before departure - this will give you a buffer in case of any delays getting to the airport.

My experience of Thomson in Edinburgh airport has been that the bag drop has been open from about 3 hours before the flights and I have done 2 flights with them in the last 18 months.

My advice get there early drop you bags as soon as you can and go for a nice leisurely breakfast once through security.

Yip i would agree with the 'get there as early as possible' advice - it's better to be early than late IMHO

Slightly off thread but concerning Thomson @ Glasgow Airport - does anyone know if the signage to the Thomson's lounge at Glasgow Airport has been improved? I believe there was some issues with people using the wrong lounge early this year - I may be mistaken on this though!

I was just wondering as we are due to use the lounge on October 6th - woo hoo 28 days until Mexico

Thanks everyone.

Jah - sorry I have no idea but if I remember I will update this for you when im in the airport.

Thank you - hope you have a lovely time in Orlando - when do you fly?

I fly out from Glasgow on 21st September so 12 days to go.

Jah, I've not flown out of GLA but it's the Sky Lounge that Thomson. Most airports have the lounges well signed IME.

thomson travel shop glasgow reviews

Thomson have built their own lounge at Glasgow Airport, they don't use the Sky Lounge now. There was confusion back in June as the signage to the 'new' Thomson lounge was lacking in telling passengers where to go.

That's what I was asking in my reply to Sophie1095 - hopefully the correct signage is up now - hopefully Sophie will update us when she uses it on the 21st or perhaps we'll get an update before then by someone who has used it

The Thomson's Story

Coffee, heritage, innovation..

In 1841, 24-year-old David Thomson, a passionate tea and coffee merchant from Edinburgh, made a bold move. He relocated with his young family to Glasgow, setting up his inaugural shop on St Vincent Street. Remarkably, at this point in history, the American Civil War was still two decades away, and innovations like the car, the telephone, and the electric light bulb were yet to see the light of day.

1841 - 1888

Thomson’s Coffee didn't take long to become an integral part of Glasgow's social and business scene. The shop started supplying freshly ground coffee to Glasgow’s bustling coffee houses. During the early 1840s, David Thomson also took to manufacturing the Naperian vacuum coffee pot, invented by another Scot, James Napier. The innovative coffee pots were an instant hit and shipped worldwide, laying the foundation for modern syphon brewers.

After David Thomson's passing in 1892 at the age of 75, William Addison, who had been managing the shop for the Thomson family, took over. Under Addison's guidance and later, that of his descendants, the business switched locations multiple times but always stayed true to its mission of providing high-quality coffee.

Responding to the growing demand, Thomson’s constructed a custom-designed roastery on Glasgow’s Southside, where it still operates today. During this period, Thomson's expanded its reach by opening stores in Ayr, Edinburgh, and Troon.

The iconic Thomson’s store on Renfield Street closed in 2005, and the Addison brothers retired. The business went up for sale in 2009 and in 2011, the Jenkins family stepped in, becoming only the third family to own this esteemed Glasgow institution since its inception.

In 2015, Thomson's achieved a pivotal milestone with the installation of Scotland's first Loring Kestrel S35 roaster, a modern counterpart to our vintage Whitmee roaster. This transformative investment allowed us to focus on roasting in smaller, more specialized batches. Consequently, we launched our Core and LAB ranges—carefully curated collections that reaffirmed our position at the forefront of specialty coffee.

Thomson's marked a triumphant return to Glasgow's retail scene when we launched a popup café in the first arch of the city's iconic Glasgow Arches. This reopening signified our first retail endeavor in the city since the closing of our renowned Renfield shop a decade and a half earlier and although the popup was a brief venture, it set the stage for future expansions and further solidified our commitment to serving Glasgow's coffee aficionados

In collaboration with Grant Dick, a longtime friend and former Thomson's team member, we launched 1841 amid the height of lockdown. Situated in the tranquil atmosphere of Glasgow's Westend, 1841 serves as a community-focused café. This initiative represented a significant new chapter in our expanding retail presence, reaffirming our commitment to quality coffee and community engagement.

In response to rapid growth at our roastery, and the exciting addition of our in-house bakery venture, Burnfield Bakery, we proudly opened the award-winning Thomson's HQ in Giffnock, just a brief stroll from our warehouse. This modern space hosts our top-floor offices and showroom, while the ground level is home to our flagship espresso bar and retail shop. a comprehensive Thomson's experience for both team members and customers alike.

Glasgow & Beyond

Thomson's today.

We take immense pride in being an independent Scottish family business with a rich heritage. Our guiding principles have always been quality and integrity, echoing the pioneering spirit David Thomson embodied. While we honor our past, we are not confined by it. We have modernized our operations by investing in cutting-edge roasting technology, ensuring the coffees we produce are of the highest quality, with verified provenance.

Our team, comprising both long-standing members and new talents, is our greatest asset. We continue to offer training programs that build on decades of expertise, keeping us at the forefront of roasting coffee and serving our ever-loyal customers.
