Great experience! Crew was friendly and helpful. Communicated what we needed to know and expect very well, and consistently. Very professional but laid back enough to help everyone enjoy the experience. Overall experience was great.

Great boat tour and snorkeling. We went to the island of Culebra on the tour. Great staff and nice drinks! Definitely recommend the fast boat. Thanks to the skipper and the crew. You were great!

Captain & crew helpful and fun, brought us to some wonderful snorkeling spaces. Maybe 25 or so people total on boat, so a good size group but not overcrowded. Lots of fun!

Highly recommend this tour, wonderful service, food and attention. You must go to Flamenco beach and snorkel in Culebra they made our trip to Puerto Rico worth every penny.

My mom and I went on this trip and we loved it! Snorkel areas were amazing as well as playa flamenco. The crew is super cool, kind, responsible and friendly!

The crew was amazing and friendly. Couldn't ask for a better time out in Culebra. After a boat ride to the island we spent a couple hours snorkeling. Next up was a provided lunch on the boat and rum cocktails. Following that we went to Flamenco beach for a couple hours.

It’s like a relationship wherein familiarity does not breed contempt but deep regard instead. Let me gush about this particular marvel: the incredibility of a ‘Snorkel and Beach Tour Puerto Rico’ . It’s an unforgettable voyage that thrills your senses and ingrains memories so vivid; they’re almost tangible. The What Makes Snorkel & Beach Tour Unforgettable? Now that I think about it, what makes snorkeling and beach touring in Puerto Rico truly distinctive? Well:

  • The bewitching staccato of aquatic colors is something to behold.
  •   Gattling glimpses of unique marine life.
  •   Walking on beaches with sand as white as milk yet fine as star-dust.

It’s blissfully refreshing! All things considered, one thing staaands out though – it unfurls itself from within you rather than around you. Yes sir! • chloedM3326LI 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Disappointing Experience I was pretty disappointed with how the company handled my groups situation. On our way to Fajardo there was a car accident on the highway, adding an extreme amount of traffic to our commute. We had planned out our drive to give ourselves an extra 45 minutes to get there. The traffic ended up pushing our arrival time to 10 minutes after the boat was intended to depart. We tried to call the company multiple times to see if there was anything they could do and all they responded with was no. We asked if there were other days to book or if we could even get a partial refund and they said no. Their responses on the phone were rude and they didn’t seem to feel bad at all. We also had a bigger group of 6 people (25 people fit on the boat at once) It was also frustrating as they had asked us to move our trip to a different day then we originally planned and then could do nothing for us in return. • Happiness65865186399 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great experience! The crew was excellent-very attentive, and focused on safety and fun. The boat is a great size, comfortable capable of handling wavy conditions, but not so big that you are on an excursion with lots of people (this boat fits 30). The trip was about 15-20 out to the reef. We saw a large variety of fish and a sting ray. Then we went to Icacos to swim and hang out. The lunch was great, plenty of drinks available and they served fruit after swimming. Our whole family enjoyed this, we have kids ages 8-16. Definitely worth the cost!! From the beginning the staff was very friendly and engaging. Before boarding the boat, they went over what we needed to know before boarding. Once on the boat, the captain went over safety with everyone and let us know what to expect. The first stop was snorkeling. The crew took their time with those who needed it and kept everyone's safety in mind. They even had a crew member in the water checking on everyone. The next stop was the beach. It was beautiful. The crew did a great job of providing food and beverage for everyone and engaged with everyone. Would highly recommend. Read more Written March 13, 2024
  • G9554OVkrism 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Perfect Day After looking at several options and reading reviews, we went with Sail Getaways and was not disappointed. We wanted a catamaran instead of a power boat and wanted lower capacity vs a party boat. There were 18 aboard along with two crew members. Crew were personable and hospitable. There were areas in the sun or shade to sit. We powered out to the snorkel site. Water was around 77 degrees. This was only my second time snorkeling. Talked to the captain and he reviewed the basics which got me going. What I didn't think about was the benefit of wearing a rash guard. The back of my neck and upper back got sunburn despite having sunscreen on. My husband and I both enjoyed our time in the water, although the coral was mostly brown and there were not many fish. We were not surrounded by other boats, which was nice. When snorkeling was done, we headed to the beach. Throughout our time, drinks were offered - water, nonalcoholic and rum drinks. When we got to the beach, the buffet lunch was set out. Food was surprisingly good and you could have as much as you wanted. We were there for about an hour and spent time in the water and walked the beach. The boat had floaties available. When we headed back to the marina, the sail was put up. Drinks continued to be available as well as a beautiful fresh fruit platter and everyone mingled. A very enjoyable experience. Read more Written March 10, 2024

I booked this for my BFFs bachelorette party. The booking was easy, the directions to get there were amazing, the crew was PHENOMENAL and went above and beyond the whole time. One of the ladies in our group got sea sick and they literally nursed her back to health. The whole day was perfect - we went snorkeling, ate lunch, and we went to the beach (double dip trip). The crew was asking us if we had enough to drink the whole time (there was also another bachelorette party on the boat so what more could we ask for?!) and they were so respectful the whole time. I literally cannot say enough. Thank you!!!!! Read more Written October 9, 2023

An Easy Boat Trip Get Away to Culebra for the Day

Culebra with East Island Excursions

2022 update- Due to COVID, some changes- box lunch instead of buffet, and you must bring or buy mask/snorkel equipment for the East Island tour (only fins included). Check their web page for more info.

I am a BIG fan of the island of Culebra. I think this little island is an easy day-trip away from the main island, and it is full of great beaches, decent snorkeling and SCUBA diving . We have been there a few times and have never been disappointed.

Generally, to get to Culebra you have 2 options — the ferry out of Ceiba or fly from one of the main island’s airports . But there is another great choice — a motor boat day trip. We went with East Island Excursions’ Culebra Get-Away for a day of fun!.

Our Boat Ride

Once you sign in and meet the crew, you’re welcome to board the boat. East Island Excursions uses their high speed catamaran, when they go to Culebra. It does a nice job cutting through the waves, but you do still feel the motion of the ocean .

Culebra with East Island Excursions

The trip over is almost never super calm. The day we were scheduled to go, there were some pretty high seas and a strong south wind. Anyone prone to sea sickness should take Dramamine before starting.

The crew was really attentive — they start offering ice water and sodas as soon as you get on board. Once everyone is settled in, they do a safety briefing and tell you various things you need to know (like how to use a marine head and where the life jackets are located). After the briefing, we got started on the 45-minute trip east to Culebra. Due to the sea conditions, the ride over is usually inside the boat. It may be a rough ride over…hang in there…the way back is always easier!

Just as an FYI- no matter what beach stops may be planned, Mother Nature has her own plans. The snorkel stops can be different every day, depending on the weather, water and wind conditions. The Captain decides each day which places are the best and safest, depending on the current conditions.

This trip typically stops at a nice reef in the Luis Peña Marine Reserve . Due to the waves, we couldn’t stop at the usual spot. But the Captain found a nice, protected cove there that had some reefs. Here, we got a briefing on the reefs and they gave out snorkel equipment (fins). If you needed a lesson or review on snorkeling, the crew was happy to help you out.

Culebra with East Island Excursions

Underwater- The quality of the snorkel spot can vary by location and of course what you see changes by the minute…nature! But there is always some thing to see underwater. On board, it is impossible not to love the sun, blue water and pretty island views topside. And now the bar opens- after we were done snorkeling, a nice cold Cuba Libre hit the spot!

After about 1 hour, they called everyone back to the boat and we headed for our second spot for the rest of the day and lunch. Usually they try to go to Flamenco Beach , or depending on weather, somewhere else like Culebrita (one of the small islands off of Culebra).

Here you will have time to check out the beach and surrounds, snorkel or just hang out and enjoy the open bar, the sun, the views and talking with the other people until it was time to go. Luckily, the waves were much smoother, so we were able to sit on the outside benches and enjoyed the scenery, sun and sea air on the way home. Everyone agreed it was a great day.

Culebra with East Island Excursions

The cost is $125/adult and $105/child (3-11 years old), plus IVU (sales tax) and a $3.00 Natural Resource fee. Includes lunch, Piña Colada, Rum Punch, sodas, water, iced tea and juices. Beer may be available for additional fee. They can also provide transportation from some hotels in the SJ area for an additional fee.

If you're happy, let them know it — Don't forget to tip your your bartender, tour guide or trip operator if you enjoyed yourself. Gratuities are appreciated and typically aren't included in the price they charge you.

9am – 3pm. They ask you to arrive early so the boat can leave on time.

tobias culebra tours

You can visit their website at their web site for more information or to make a reservation.

For East Island, you will need to supply your own mask/snorkel, or buy one from them. They will supply the fins. Bring towels, sun glasses and sunscreen. Wear light clothing over your swimsuit. Underwater cameras and sunscreen are available for purchase on-board. Always drink responsibly, don’t drink and drive and snorkel at your own risk.

You will be back to the marina in time to catch a trip to the bio-bay that same evening, so you can check-off 2 things from your list in 1 day.

Directions to the marina: From the San Juan area, take Route 3 or Route 66 east. Continue on Route 3 east to Fajardo. Just as Route 3 merges with Route 53, you’ll see an exit sign for Puerto del Rey marina. Take that exit, cross under Route 53 and follow the road to the marina on your left. Please note that if you get to the toll booth on Route 53 then you have missed the exit. East Island offers transportation to/from the marina at an additional cost.

Travel time from the San Juan area to the marina is about 60 to 90 minutes, depending on traffic and the route taken (Route 66 versus Route 3).

Traveler Catamarans has the Tobias power boat- more info on their trip check out Tobias Culebra Snorkeling Tour Sail Getaway- has a boat. For more info Culebra Power Boat Snorkeling & Beach Tour . This was our first family vacations together. We choose to do the Catamaran day trip to Culebra. It was the highlight of our 8 day vacation. The crew of of Alex, Willie, the captain and Coral were awesome. I had been to Culebra before but the other 11 had not and no one was disappointed. The food, crew and organization of the whole operation from booking to the Marina was professional and on schedule. We highly recommend East Island Excursions.

Great excursion!!!

Great excursion!!!

Excellent day trip and awesome crew! This was my second time taking the excursion. The Culebra Island is absolutely beautiful. The crew members were all very friendly and helpful. It was a great experience.

Culebra snorkeling trip

Do you like crystal clear ocean and snorkeling? Do you like water that is not to cold or too warm? Do you like rum? You get all this and more when you take this trip to snorkel a couple of reefs and then wind down at the gorgeous Flamenco beach (Rated the 2nd most beautiful beach in the world by the Discover channel). I could have stayed here for days – the staff was courteous and knowledgeable. You should be able to swim to take this tour, unless you want to stay on the boat the entire time. I saw children as young as 4, but I would not recommend this for a child under 8 years of age.

The Catamaran is absolutely the best trip ever. The Crew is Exceptional..Levi, aka The Coolest White boy in Fajardo PR Sorren, Jessie and The Captain Manny meet every expectation you will need in this excursion. This is a must with this Crew & company everything is epic!!!Food and drinks are beyond your expectations!

Ops @ East island excursions

This was a very fun and exciting trip for my family and I. We did the trip to Culebra. I want to first say The Crew Levi, Sorren, Jessie and Captain Manny were beyond great and made sure everyone was accommodated. Every few minutes they made sure we were good with drinks. A couple of my family members got sea sick and they were right there to help out clean up and make sure they were comfortable. The snorkeling was awesome and before we went in the crew informed us of all of the safety and dangers of swimming by the protected reef. Then we stopped at flamenco one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. All around a cool experience and everyone enjoyed themselves. Definitely bring a waterproof camera to take lots of pictures and bring cash to tip these wonderful workers. Customer service A+++

Very Fun and informative

Very Fun and informative

Had a great time with this company. Well-organized, which was good because they have many different options leaving at around the same time. We did the snorkeling excursion and then swimming at the Island of Culebra. Amazing views in the clear water. My boys loved jumping and flipping off the side of the boat. If you get sea-sick or are not sure, buy some Dramamine. Quite a few people got seasick but we had all taken a pill about an hour before the trip and had no problems. Oh, and free rum drinks for Mom and Dad!

Catamaran and Snorkeling

Catamaran and Snorkeling

We took the catamaran tour to Culebra for snorkeling and a few hours at Flamenco beach. The ride there was exciting and let me be the first to tell you- be prepared to get wet. The snorkel gear was nice. The boat was clean and spacious for the amount of people that were on it. Lunch was buffet style and was delicious. The rum drinks were very tasty. Flamenco beach is breathtaking and I will go back for sure. The crew on the boat did such a good job caring for us. Alexandra and Herman were the deck crew that made sure we all had everything we needed. They were amazing! This tour was a blast and we would use this company again for sure.

This was the perfect day!

This was the perfect day!

My family and I did the trip to Culebra & Flamenco Beach on July 31, 2017. We had such an amazing time. Levi in particular was there for each and every member the entire day. They were all very attentive and caring. The trip out was very rough because of the current but Levi and crew did their best to keep us feeling better. Once we arrived to go snorkeling, the crew made sure we were fell fed and safe. The best part of the trip was Flamenco Beach. It was an experience my wife and kids will never forget. Beautiful sand and water. I highly recommend this trip for anyone visiting Puerto Rico.

Amazing Trip & Experience

Amazing Trip & Experience

My husband and I booked spots on the Island Flyer catamaran and our guides were Arturo, Julie, Willy and Luis. They were all fantastic. This catamaran was a little smaller than the other ones that are available so it didn’t feel super packed or uncomfortable. We met some great people on the boat. The food and snacks and drinks they served were all delicious and readily available. The snorkel spot we stopped at was beautiful and Culebra island was magnificent. Flamenco beach is in the top 10 in the world for a reason. Thank you east island excursions for and amazing time!!

Culebra Island Catamran

Culebra Island Catamran

My friend and I were lucky enough to come across East Island Excursion for our Culebra trip. Everything was perfect, from the booking to the actual excursion. We couldn’t have asked for a better crew… Captain Manny, Levi, Jorge, Raymond, Alexandra and I can’t forget Domingo who was our transportation to and from our hotel. Although the weather wasn’t the best that it could’ve been, our crew made up for it. They really strive to cater to you in every possible way (even diving for my sunglasses which I dropped when we had anchored). I totally would recommend East Island Excursion for any of their tours… you will not be disappointed!!

A Must Do!!

A Must Do!!

We had a blast! Highlight of our trip! Made new friends and the crew was outstanding! The snorkeling was great. I hope my pictures turn out. I would do this again 100 times over !!!!

Paradise and new friends

Paradise and new friends

This is the second time I’ve used East Island Excursions and I don’t plan on using any other company. We’ve chartered a private catamaran through East Island & have taken a regular public catamaran to Culebra. The captain and guides are excellent, they’re super fun and make you feel at home. You can tell they LOVE what they do. We had Levi, Christen and Carlos as our captain and guides on our private catamaran. They give you advice on the best beaches and snorkeling places but they allow you to make your own decision. The price for a private charter and round trip transportation is EXTREMELY reasonable! I plan on renting the boat again next year.

BEST DAY TRIP IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD

BEST DAY TRIP IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD

Reserve your spot now! This trip to Culebra, Flamenco Beach is SO much fun and is so beautiful! We sat outside on the Eco Isleno and enjoyed the beautiful views leaving Fajardo cruising to Culebra. Our amazing team of Alexis, Mariel and William took the best care of us – from safety tips, to snorkeling equipment, to a great lunch, and even better drinks – they were so much fun! We would ABSOLUTELY use East Island Excursions again!!

OUR FAVORITE DAY IN PUERTO RICO!!

OUR FAVORITE DAY IN PUERTO RICO!!

The captain and crew were awesome and not afraid to join the fun, snorkeling and sights were breathtaking! The water was clear and they do not cheat you on the rum. Plenty of fish to be seen!

Amazing!!

I was in Puerto Rico with 9 of my friends and we were staying on the other side of Puerto Rico. We drove 3 hours to the place and it was definitely worth every minute. We choose to snorkel in Culebra island and go to Flamenco beach. The staff on the boat were great they checked on you constantly. The food was perfect for the type of excursions. We jumped off the side of the boat and went swimming, took amazing pictures. Snorkeling in Culebra was beautiful, but Flamenco beach was the best part, most beautiful beach I have seen. The music on the boat was great, Alexis was very entertaining and helpful. It was 100% worth our 3 hour drive.

Breathtaking!

Breathtaking!

Just great, we had a trip and was better than expected, snorkeling was an outstanding experience, flamenco beach it was stunning. Also the food its was really good. In addition the Crew of the spirit are super, William the captain , Coral and the others, they are the best, they are welcoming, kind, and they show professionalism and respect for the environment, and they educate people in how to protect the reef. I think if u are in PR u must book a trip with them, u will have not regrets. We will be back

The Best Snorkeling on Flamenco Beach in Culebra, Puerto Rico

' src=

Flamenco Beach is one of the best beaches in Puerto Rico, and the world. Don’t believe me? Check Tripadvisor or any other top 10 list you can find on the internet. Located off the coast of Fajardo in what is considered the “Spanish Virgin Islands,” Flamenco Beach is famous for it’s powder soft sand, calm waves, and crystal clear waters. Those looking for snorkeling in Puerto Rico will be happy to know that Culebra and is surrounded by world class snorkeling spots. When I planned my trip to Puerto Rico, I knew it would be a place I couldn’t miss.

As I conducted my research on how to get there, the trip to Culebra Island appeared to be quite a feat. I would have to drive almost 45 minutes to Fajardo, arrive at some ungodly hour in the morning, then battle the crowds in hopes of snagging a spot on one of the few ferries that run back and forth. I read that the last ferry departs at 3pm, and if you miss it the you’re out of luck.

The Fajardo Marina is the place to hitch a ride to Culebra!

Time management isn’t my forte, and since I was going to be traveling solo , I knew I needed to find a safe and organized option if I wanted to make this day trip happen. This is where the Snorkel and Beach Tour on the SS Tobias came in and saved the day! After checking out their website and how safe their boat was, I knew I wanted to ride with them.

Plans were made, and at 7:15am on a sunny morning in Old San Juan, I was picked up at The Posada San Francisco hostel by the shuttle that would take me to the SS Tobias. The driver introduced himself and smiled graciously. Meeting him on time was the only stress I encountered during the entire day!

The SS Tobias is a small catamaran that holds a maximum of 48 people. On my trip the boat was full but thankfully it was roomy enough not to feel cramped like sardines. I felt relaxed the minute I heard salsa music coming from the speakers. The staff was really warm and friendly, encouraging us to eat as much as we wanted and “don’t be shy guys” while they set out snacks and drinks. They also gave us a fair warning, letting us know that we’d be going against the wind and the ride would be bumpy.

Is this real life?!

It turned out he wasn’t exaggerating! The boat actually felt like it was going to rocket off into space at some point. But once we arrived, it was so beautiful that I completely forgot the ride there. I gasped as I looked down and realized I could see to the bottom. It was like a turquoise swimming pool!   I was nervous because it was my first time snorkeling in the ocean, but the crew was so  nice and accommodating! They must have noticed the nervous look on my face, because they approached me and asked if I needed a quick rundown. I sheepishly nodded and the leader helped me properly put on my mask, passed me a floatie, and even offered to take me out on a raft to see the reef if I felt like I couldn’t handle snorkeling. Sweet!

Shortly after getting my first gulp of saltwater.. after that I was good to go!

Once I actually got the hang of it, I couldn’t get enough! We snorkeled at Carlos Rosario Beach in Culebra, and it was honestly one of my favorite life experiences to date. Just seeing the fish and how they interact with the coral, and how naturally beautiful the reef is blew my mind. I felt like a spectator watching a critically acclaimed production. We snorkeled for about an hour and a half before we set sail for Flamenco Beach.

Snorkeling makes you work up an appetite – good thing you can help yourself!

After the snorkeling came the bottomless Pina Coladas and a buffet to help feed the appetites we worked up from swimming. There was an assortment of meat, bread and cheese to make sandwiches and a fruit plate to enjoy once we got to Flamenco Beach. If you are  vegan or vegetarian , you may want to consider bringing your own lunch if you want a substantial meal because the pasta and salad may not be enough.

Pina Colada made with Puerto Rican Rum? Yes please!

Can you see the pink sand? It was magnificent!

Snorkeling was a success!

The beach is only about a mile long!

#flawless Puerto Rico!

I wonder what texture that sand is – the finer the better is the rule, I supposed. The water looks incredible! It’s incredible that Puerto Rico has such a precarious status in the US sphere of influence.

I did the tour to icacos island and palomino with the captain Jay, pablito and I forgot the tall guy name but three of them were great! We had a blast on our tour. Drinks were amazing. The crew was making sure we were safe and the most important part make sure we had fun and we enjoy the tour. Thanks for everything !! I will be back.

The spot chosen for snorkeling was just amazing. Flamenco beach is definitely a must. But what made a difference is the awesome Sail Getaways crew. All of them were super attentive and nice with us. They went above and beyond to ensure our trip was perfect. Not once I had to order for a refill of my drink. 11 out of 10, 100% recommended, I'll definitely repeat.

Was all of our first time and it was so beautiful and fun. We got to see a barracuda, big jellyfish and a bunch of other little fish. We enjoyed the guys explaining everything, Oscar was fun and kept us entertained since the music wasn't working haha. Loved that lunch and alcohol was included, was so worth the money!

We went with a friend to visit Culebra Island and everything was very nice, the trip was very pleasant, the guides were very attentive, VERY good music and food, I recommend them, 10/10!!

Wonderful experience. Clear turquoise water, white sandy beaches, lush green islands, and a remarkable crew. It was a perfect day of swimming, snorkeling, and positive vibes all around. Highly recommend these guys.

My friend and I took the tour to Tamarindo and Flamenco beach and it was amazing. The weather was perfect which made the ride super smooth. We were a fortunate group to enjoy a beautiful day. It was our first time experience and we loved it. We are beginner swimmers (to say the least) and the gentlemen were kind enough to get in the water with us so we wouldn’t miss the opportunity. Everyone on the boat was super friendly and made us feel like family! It’s definitely a must do activity when visiting the island. Looking forward to many more!!!

It was soo much fun. We took off on time went snorkeling not many fishes but still a great experience then we went to the flamingo island and got 2 hours to ourself to enjoy l. Crew was super friendly and kept the drinks coming. Would totally recommend

Great quick getaway for our group of 13. Quick boat ride to snorkel, excellent fish viewing and lunch. Then a quick boat ride to Flamenco Beach to wander around. The staff was friendly, knowledgable, and patient.

We took the three-in-one catamaran getaway on New Year's Day with Omar and Arturo. Our group was 2 adults a 9 year old and a 5 year old. All of us had an amazing time. Omar and Arturo were awesome sailors/hosts/guides making sure they got us to Icacos safely for snorkeling, answered all our questions, taught us about Puerto Rico and even served us delicious drinks and snacks. A really beautiful afternoon/evening with super friendly guides, Omar and Arturo.
