Luxury Family Holidays UK

The UK is suddenly a very exciting place to holiday. British weather aside, there is such an abundant choice of great family friendly hotels dotted around some of the country’s finest landscapes. Staying close to home territory means you are fully in control of when and how you travel, choosing to load your brood into a car or take a scenic rail route without the stress of busy airports or luggage restrictions.

Britain is packed with historic monuments, royal palaces and some of the world’s most exciting museums, but it’s the landscape which are really iconic from the Jurassic coast of East Devon and Dorset, to the ruggedness of the Yorkshire Moors. Choose a country hotel and you will never be far from a local farm, quaint village steeped in history or a dramatic coastline where you can find some wonderful fresh seafood. Or you can even stay on a farm itself and let the kids help out with the animals.

It was a good company until it went…

It was a good company until it went under and we lost our deposit completely even though we had paid by credit card. We had arranged the holiday in 2019 for 2020. Then the pandemic happened so we were not keen to go and take a baby abroad. So we told them to hold the deposit to use for a new holiday when the pandemic had calmed down. Bad idea! Why oh why didn’t we just ask for our deposit back! Apparently the head of Tots to Travel now works for Thomas Cook. Will be avoiding them.

Thank you!!

A huge thanks to Tots to Travel for our second holiday with you. Once again your customer service was first class. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic you treated us brilliantly and supported us to find solutions during a really challenging time - even though our communication was a little stressed and frantic at times!!!! We finally got to the Aphrodite Hills in Cyprus which was simply spectacular. Thanks again.

Fantastic service from start to finish

Fantastic service from start to finish, very knowledgeable staff who’d help you choose what’s right for you and your family and not just the most expensive. Fabulous extras for anyone with small children who need to take the kitchen sink and more for every holiday. Can really trust that all properties have been checked and are safe for little ones.

Thank you for your review! We are so glad that you found travelling with us so easy!

Top rate, Salema Beach in the Algave. Your suggestion of 2 adjacent villas in this holiday resort was spot on. For 7 adults and 2 toddlers we couldn't have wishes for anything more. Your attention to detail was second to none - SAFTY 1st - so relaxing in the gardens around the villas = totally secure! The stair gates also made life so much easier as we knew the toddlers couldn't climb too far, or fall when inside either villa. Your toy boxes inside and out were amazing - all new and imaginative - kept them enthralled throughout our 7 days. Thank you for your guidance - we have been singing your praises to all friends with young family members - We will keep your website in view for our next holiday!!!

Date of experience : 04 July 2019

What a lovely review, thank you! It's great to hear that you had such a wonderful time at Salema Beach Village and that everything suited you so well. Between the toys that we provide and the safety measures that we take when including resorts and properties in our portfolio, we certainly aim for adults to get a little relaxation time during their holiday, so I am hoping this was the case with your stay! I'm so pleased to hear that you are recommending us to your friends and we look forward to hearing from you when you are looking to book another holiday! Claire

Really helpful team

Such a stressful week trying to sort out our holiday to Tenerife - however the Tots to Travel team have been so helpful throughout. Just wanted to say a huge thank you to Nikki and Victoria for helping sort things out. We are looking forward to travelling with you when hopefully things are a bit more back to normal next year.

Tots To Travel To Thomas Cook….

Just an FYI to other families who lost their hard earned deposits from Tots to Travel retaining funds (prior to the pandemic I may add), their founding director has now been employed by Thomas Cook as their Head of Product Development..!? I for one, can guarantee we will NEVER “book it” with Thomas Cook while this woman is appointed by them. Details taken from LinkedIn, Wendy Shand

Was owed a refund for a cancelled…

Was owed a refund for a cancelled holiday in Sept, was promised this would be paid within 14-28 days. Told again only a couple of weeks ago it was being escalated and resolved. Now they've gone bust and stopped answering emails or the phone! I've had nothing from them or the creditors and I've started a section 75 claim through my credit card.

Date of experience : 28 October 2020

No refunds or options for pandemic

We had a booking with tots to travel to Portugal in April of this year which was cancelled due to COVID. We were initially told to claim this on our travel insurance and then told we were not eligible for any refund - a rebooking option was not offered either. CMA advice seems to suggest a refund should be provided. This is truly disheartening behavior when airlines are providing refunds in the face of a global pandemic. Really disappointing.

Date of experience : 17 July 2020

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to read that you have been disappointed with our service during the pandemic. I can see from your file that you are in discussion with our team about new dates for your booking and we are doing all we can to find suitable alternative dates for you to move your disrupted booking to. It has been a highly challenging set of circumstances and despite our best efforts we have clearly not lived up to your expectations on this occasion. I hope that once you have new dates for your booking you're able to enjoy the prospect of taking your postponed holiday and that when you do go you have a really wonderful time away.

Perfect from Start to Finish

Having been worried about a holiday with a toddler and a baby I needn’t have been. Green Garden resort has everything you need to keep small children entertained which leaves you to enjoy the sun and all the resort has to offer. Only criticism would be the food, although generally good and varied through the week it would have been a bit tired beyond this. Also not the best variety for veggies. Will happily return though as not a deal breaker as the rest of the resort and staff are brilliant. T2T were great throughout, especially the pre departure call to make sure everything was good to go.

Date of experience : 30 December 2019

Wow, what a lovely review! I'm so happy to hear that you had such a fantastic time in Tenerife - the resort team are absolutely wonderful and it's great that they helped to make the stay so much easier and more enjoyable, and also that the team here helped you prepare for the holiday! Eleanor

Had the best booking experience with…

Had the best booking experience with Tots to travel, they responded to my holiday enquiry within 10mins. They were pleasant through out the whole booking process. I hope the destination is as pleasant as they are. Would definitely be booking my next family holiday with them. I felt secure booking through them especially as I haven’t travelled abroad much.

Date of experience : 27 February 2020

What a lovely review, thank you so much! It's great to see that the team got back to you so quickly and that they were so helpful in getting your reservation sorted. Have a fantastic time when you go and please get in touch if there is anything our service team can help with at all! Eleanor

Booked a holiday in tenerife

Booked a holiday in tenerife For may cancelled due to covid No refund as they are agent putting together You and accommodation They insisted our accommodation had been paid for WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH THEY HAVE NOW GONE OUT OF BUSINESS With everybody's money Sure they will set up next year new name

Date of experience : 27 October 2020

Completely incorrect bad review.

These people, Sandra and Busola Oni, complaining and vilifying Tots to Travel, Trustpilot and everything under the sun because they saw a harmless fruit rat in the middle of rural Spain, and especially the character assassination attempt of lovely owners of a lovely Finca, Kerry and Lee. My wife and I have spent two terrific holidays at this location and have nothing but praise for it and the owners. I am currently looking for suitable weeks to book once more! I can only assume these people are serial complainants. They would no doubt complain about elephants in Africa, given the chance. Need to sort their lives out in my view and stop trying to wreck excellent reputations. This seems a good case for the deformation of character lawyers.

Date of experience : 01 September 2019

Payments not passed on to accommodation owners

Same experience as others just mentioned - we were reassured in an email saying that despite them ceasing to trade our holiday booking for next year was safe. Turns out the villa owner says she’s received less than €600 from Tots to Travel, when we had paid almost £2,700 for the holiday. Now I don’t even know how to prove it if TtT really sent her the money. And if they didn’t, how come they didn’t have to file for insolvency way earlier? If they don’t get back to me with proof of payment, I’ll report them to the Insolvency Service for misconduct of their Directors.

Refusing to refund for COVID cancellation in May- Avoid!

We booked a holiday in May 2020 through Tots to Travel which they were unable to provide due to the pandemic. They have refused to provide a refund for the prepaid holiday, citing terms and conditions which we cannot recall ever having seen and which are likely to be unfair and unenforceable. The unregulated nature of Tots to Travel (they are not ABTA members) means that we need to sue them in the county court in order to get our money back. All in all, an enormous hassle, especially with small children at home. With this in mind, I'm entirely un-reassured by their supposed COVID assurances.

Date of experience : 02 September 2020

Thank you for your review this morning Richard. I'm very sorry to hear you feel you have had such a bad experience with Tots following the disruption to your booking due to the pandemic. Where refunds are eligible based on supplier terms, we have made refunds. In this instance the resort you were due to travel to is offering rebook transfers. This option is still very much open to you and if you wish to take this up we can contact you immediately to arrange suitable alternative dates for you. With reference to your comment regarding regulation, you are correct in stating that we are not a member of ABTA and this is because we are not a tour operator or provider of package holidays. It is absolutely not our intention to cause hassle and we would be really happy to be able to reschedule your accommodation dates for you. Please let me know if you'd like us to contact you directly to do this. Once again, thank you for your review.

Excellent customer service

Excellent customer service, Helena was very helpful and attentive. The properties on offer are fabulous, totally made for kids in mind. Only negative for me is I would like an option for free cancellation. Booking a year in advance and nervous for some unforeseen circumstances we can't go. Other then that fabulous. 5 stars.

Date of experience : 26 September 2019

Thank you for the 5* review, we're really happy to hear Helena was able to help you find the perfect holiday for you and your family!

It seems all you do is book the hotel…

It seems all you do is book the hotel and arrange for a few baby things to arrive in the room. I would have expected a more detailed approach e.g. asking if you need early check in or late check out, telling you about different accommodation options in the resort, arranging transfers etc. If I have known it was such a limited service, I would have booked elsewhere.

Date of experience : 26 October 2019

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We aim to make the whole process of a family holiday as easy and as stress free as we can. Our travel experts aim to guide our customers through the process of booking, taking out all of the hard work for you and helping you to book the perfect holiday for your family. Part of this is helping you to find resorts and properties that we feel are suitable for families with little ones and so offering and explaining different property types where available. We visit every single property that is on our portfolio and carry out our thorough 30 Point Safety Check and because of this sometimes we choose not to take on specific property types at resorts. This may be because they do not pass our safety checks or we deem them unsuitable for families with young children. As we are a property expert we are not able to arrange transfers but we can certainly point our customers in the right direction and liaise with the resort about confirming any extra needs such as assisting with check out times if needed. As well as our 30 point safety check, we offer our essential kit, and in some resorts we have additional Tots to Travel exclusive facilities. We offer ongoing support for our customers, including while you are on holiday as well as the peace of mind that where have booked is family friendly and safe. Thank you again for providing your feedback and I hope you’re having a lovely time Portugal, please do let us know if you need anything at all! Claire

Cannot recommend highly enough

We have used TTT twice now - both times for Green Garden Resort in Tenerife. They were very helpful in confirming the facilities on site, what we needed to bring etc. They were practical and had common sense. As an example, we asked if a buggy could be provided. They said it could but actually we would probably want it in the airport and it would be less stressful to have ours as we were familiar with it. Always helpful and professional. We would (and have) use them again.

Thank you for the fantastic review and for going away with us not only once but twice! It's fantastic that you found the booking process and the run-up to the holiday so easy, and that Victoria could provide such helpful advice! Eleanor

Absolutely devastated by the treatment…

Absolutely devastated by the treatment we have received. Was due to travel to Tenerife in May which was cancelled due to Covid. We were unable to get a refund or claim through insurance as the fact we could reschedule to a later date meant that in the insurer's eyes it wasn't actually cancelled. We rescheduled for next May and had confirmation a couple of weeks ago that everything was booked. Now the company has gone into liquidation and as they didn't accept Amex we couldn't pay via credit card and now don't know if we will get any of our hard earned money back. This is a hugely significant amount of money for us and we are absolutely gutted. Terrible communication and ethics

Excellent service, as always

This is our second booking with Tots. They are always helpful and go above and beyond to answer your questions. The website is easy to use and very informative; the booking process is slick. The extras Tots provide whilst on your holidays really take the pressure off.

Date of experience : 21 January 2020

Thank for the kind review and most of all thank you for trusting us with your next family break! I'm so glad Rachel could find something perfect & that we could answer all your questions about the property, I know there were some aspects that were really important to you all so of course we wanted to do everything we could to help! Have a lovely time in France when you go. Eleanor

Shambles of a company

Shambles of a company. Didn’t refund me even though holiday in June was cancelled due to Covid. Thankfully was able to get my money back through my bank. Hope more customers managed to reverse their transactions and didn’t get defrauded of their money by this money grabbing business.

The luggage print is protected by a layer of clear coat which also gives it a beautiful glossy shine. The design of this case also allows the wheels to protrude out keeping the case elevated preventing the bottom of the luggage from touching the ground. With the luggage only weighing in at a mere 3.5 lbs., children can wheel these fun cases around, as they also feature our inline skate wheels that make rolling even smoother. Both the luggage and backpack piece have zipper closure system, when opened reveals a beautifully lined interior. The Travel Tots luggage is carry-on approved..

We have two of these suitcases for my kids and it's been 7 years without any issues. They still love them and are able to fit a remarkable amount of clothes in them. One of my favorite gifts too!

FC 24 TOTS Live tracker guide and full release schedule

FC 24 TOTS has arrived – and it’s very different from previous years. EA already mixed things up by adding the TOTS Warm Up series to EA Sports FC 24 , and now it’s caused another stir with FC 24 Live TOTS items. These cards, such as Jeremy Doku, Luka Modric, and Bruno Fernandes, can earn upgrades based upon real-life performances across April and May. Find out exactly how it works below – along with the FC 24 TOTS release schedule, and full FC 24 TOTS Live tracker.

What is FC 24 TOTS?

TOTS stands for Team of the Season, and historically rivals FC 24 TOTY for the biggest campaign in the series once known as FIFA. Its arrival heralded the end of the FC 24 Golazo promo. From April to June we get weekly new cards based upon real-life performances over the past season. All the major leagues are represented, and we’re getting an assortment of mixed-league packs too. You can see what’s coming, and when, on the FC 24 TOTS release schedule list below.

What is the FC 24 TOTS release schedule?

The FC 24 TOTS release schedule kicked off on Friday, April 19 with a new range of FC 24 Live TOTS cards. Those are explained later in this guide. Things get more traditional on Friday, April 26 with the arrival of the Premier League TOTS, and new WSL TOTS. We then get a regular blast of new packs each week, all the way through to Friday, June 7. Here’s a detailed look at the FC 24 Team of the Season schedule:

Friday, April 19 to Friday, April 26: TOTS Live

Friday, April 26 to Friday, May 3: Premier League TOTS, Mixed League 1, and WSL TOTS

Friday, May 3 to Friday, May 10: Bundesliga TOTS, Mixed League 2, and Frauen-Bundesliga TOTS

Friday, May 10 to Friday, May 17: Ligue 1 TOTS, Mixed League 3, and D1 Arkema TOTS

Friday, May 17 to Friday, May 24: La Liga TOTS, Mixed League 4, and Liga F TOTS

Friday, May 24 to Friday, May 31: Serie A TOTS, Mixed League 5, and NWSL TOTS

Friday, May 31 to Friday, June 7: Ultimate TOTS

How do you get FC 24 TOTS Live upgrades?

Live TOTS are a brand new style of Team of the Season item. Much like FC 24 RTTF and FC 24 FUT Fantasy , these cards upgrade based upon real-life performances. They can score two upgrades, based on the next four rounds of fixtures after they go live. These are the parameters necessary for each upgrade:

1x IF upgrade if club wins two of next four league games

1x IF upgrade if club scores eight goals in next four league games

Are there any FC 24 TOTS free items?

Yep! Log into your account between Friday, April 19 and Friday, April 26 to score a Live TOTS Guarantee pack. This contains one item from the selection of FC 24 Live TOTS cards. I got 90-rated Brighton striker Elisabeth Terland, which will do very nicely given that she usually costs around 25,000 coins on the open market.

Which cards are on the FC 24 TOTS Live tracker?

The complete FC 24 TOTS Live tracker, correct as of Saturday, April 20, is as follows. Just snagged one of these players and want them to look their best on the digital turf? Check out our FC 24 best kits guide.

Travel + Leisure / Jessica Juliao

While many travelers opt for a backpack as a trusted travel companion, we think tote bags offer similar (if not better) features for certain travelers. Tote bags are convenient for quickly accessing items like a phone or wallet since your belongings are kept closer to the body.

It’s important to invest in a tote bag (or any piece of luggage for that matter) that fits your needs as a traveler. There are tons of different bag styles out there, so we pulled recommendations and notes from seasoned travelers and Travel + Leisure editors to crowdsource the best tote bag options from travel experts. Plenty of packable, convertible, weekender, and leather tote bags came highly recommended, and we highlighted why each bag earned praise so you can make the most informed decision whether you’re a frequent flier, road tripper, or office commuter.

Best Overall

Mz wallace deluxe tote.

The large storage capacity and efficient organization make it an excellent personal item for flying.

The laptop pocket isn’t padded.

This quilted MZ Wallace tote bag earned major points for having a spacious capacity without feeling bulky or weighted down when it’s packed full. An ideal bag for air travel, it can fit carry-on essentials while still being able to fit underneath an airplane seat, and the zippered top keeps everything safe and sound. There are tons of pockets for storing items, including a 13-inch laptop pocket (unpadded) and five other smaller pockets for lip balm, phone chargers, and wallets. Although we found this tote bag to be exceptionally lightweight, it boasts a trolley sleeve to secure the bag to a suitcase to give your shoulder a rest when needed. It also comes with a detachable shoulder strap to carry the bag as a crossbody when desired.

This bag came highly recommended after thorough testing and the only slight inconvenience we ran into is that the tote is unstructured so if there isn’t a laptop in it, the items sag at the bottom. However, the variety of pockets help to distribute the weight, so we still think this bag is the ultimate travel companion for storing the essentials.

The Details: 11.6 x 9.4 x 12.7 inches | Nylon, leather | Trolley sleeve | 13-inch laptop pocket

Best Overall, Runner-up

Quince revive nylon large tote.

It conveniently folds up for packing and is impressively lightweight.

There isn’t a top zipper.

The Quince Revive Nylon tote bag was praised by our experts for its lightweight material and portable design for traveling. The bag is made with durable nylon, it never feels cumbersome to carry, and the fabric design makes it easy to fold up the bag to place it in a carry-on or backpack without taking up much space. With designated pockets for a laptop, water bottle, and smaller items, we love that there is a spot for both everyday and travel essentials for supreme versatility. If the tote gets dirty while traveling, you can spot-clean the nylon fabric with soap and water, and it comes in Oxford blue, olive, and black color options that easily hide wear and tear over the years. Because the tote bag doesn’t have a top zipper, it scored slightly lower than our top pick, but we still think the flexible fabric and slim design of the tote helps keep it close to your body while walking through a crowded airport or down busy streets.

The Details: 17 x 13 x 7 inches | Recycled nylon | Water resistant | 15-inch laptop pocket

Best Open-top Canvas

L.l.bean boat and tote bag.

It can accommodate bulky items thanks to the wide-mouth opening.

It doesn’t have any organizational features, so you’ll want to use packing cubes or pouches.

Beach days, picnics, and road trips are the best uses for this spacious canvas tote from L.L. Bean. Made from heavyweight cotton canvas, the tote was originally designed to carry ice from a car to an ice chest back in 1944, and it still boasts the brand’s impressive 500-pound weight capacity (though we hope your travel essentials will never weigh that much). While we’d normally be wary of a travel bag without any pockets, the bag has a generous capacity, which makes it ideal for blankets, lunch boxes, shoes, or any other bulkier item needed for a day or road trip. And when it comes to durability, you can’t beat a tote bag constructed with enough reinforcement to carry over a dozen cinder blocks.

The Details: 13  x 12 x 6 inches | Cotton canvas

Best Machine-washable

Baggu duck bag.

The cotton is machine-washable, and it comes with a crossbody strap.

The top has a magnetic button closure.

Traveling can be hard on luggage, so we love that you can toss the Baggu Duck Bag in a washing machine to prolong the life of the tote. It came highly recommended after one of our team members spilled an entire burrito inside, and all it took was one rinse cycle to get it looking good as new. The canvas material is made with 65 percent recycled cotton from pre-consumer waste like old socks or T-shirts. In addition to the tote handles, the bag also comes with an adjustable crossbody strap to carry the bag over the shoulder. It has enough room to carry a laptop up to 15 inches long, and there is a small zippered pocket on the inside for a wallet or earbuds. One thing to note is that the top has a magnetic button closure instead of a zipper.

The Details: 15.75 x 11 x 4.75 inches | Recycled cotton canvas

Best Open-top Leather

Milaner woven handbag.

It’s big enough to be an overnight bag if needed.

There isn’t a laptop pocket.

This woven Milaner leather tote bag is the ultimate tote bag for flying, commuting, or an overnight trip. The larger size can accommodate bulky items like clothing, shoes, or a laptop, and there are two small zippered pockets for wallets and phone chargers. Thanks to the structured design of the woven Nappa, suede, or Vachetta leather, this bag is super easy to pack with travel essentials without feeling cumbersome to carry. It doesn’t have a top zipper, but it does feature a slim shape so the bag is kept close to the body. We also recommend using the dust bag it comes with when placing the bag under an airplane seat to keep the contents from spilling out or getting the bag dirty from the airplane carpet.

The Details: 20 x 14 x 3 inches | Nappa leather

Best Sustainable

Béis east to west tote.

It’s made with 100 percent recycled material.

It only comes in two colors, and the white could get dirty quickly.

We’re big supporters of eco-friendly luggage that is still just as durable as this tote bag from T+L-loved brand, Béis. Made with 100 percent recycled polyester and recycled faux leather trim, the bag comes in simple black and white shades. There is a padded laptop pocket for laptops up to 15 inches long, two water bottle pockets, two slip pockets, and one zippered pocket so there’s a spot for everyday and travel essentials. Other helpful features for travelers include a trolley sleeve for carrying it on a suitcase, a key leash so you won’t have to dig around to unlock the door (plus you can attach an AirTag holder to it), and a zippered pocket in front. We can’t forget to mention the two lengths of tote handles and a detachable crossbody strap.

The Details: 17.13 x 14.17 x 9.06 inches | Recycled polyester, vegan leather | 15-inch padded laptop pocket | Luggage sleeve

Best Lightweight

Longchamp tote bag.

It folds into a fraction of the original size for superior packability.

The leather straps aren’t padded.

This lightweight tote bag is ideal for both maximalist and minimalist packers since it folds into itself and can easily be stored in a larger bag without taking up valuable space. Despite the featherlight design, the bag is made with a hardy recycled polyamide canvas that can withstand the test of time. Besides the excellent portability, we love that the tote bag has a zippered top  with a large leather flap that closes over the zipper to give peace of mind that items are safely tucked away while traveling. There’s only one small zippered pocket inside the bag, which could be a slight drawback for some, but we think the packable design is well worth the lack of pockets. The bag comes in seven colors ranging from neutrals hues to bolder tones, and the leather straps, though unpadded, give the bag a chic look to complement any outfit.

The Details: 12.2 x 11.8 x 7.5 inches | Recycled polyamide canvas, leather | Packable

Best Convertible

Caraa studio tote.

It has a convenient modular design to carry the bag as a tote or backpack.

The exterior shoe pocket can only accommodate smaller shoes.

Can’t decide between a tote or backpack? This Caraa Studio tote bag has a two-in-one design to carry it as either, offering the best of both worlds. With detachable shoulder straps, the leather tote bag can be converted to a backpack in seconds or carried over one shoulder if you’re in crowded areas like a subway or sidewalk and want to keep the bag close. Best of all, there is tons of built in storage to stay naturally organized while traveling. Our favorite features include the 17-inch laptop pocket and shoe compartment on the side of the bag to separate footwear from the rest of the main compartment. Although the pocket can only hold smaller shoes, it can be a game-changer for certain travelers. And there are eight other pockets built into the interior anti-microbial lining to store phone chargers, wallets, passports, and more when you’re en route to a destination.

The Details: 18 x 13 x 7.5 inches | Italian leather | 17-inch laptop pocket

Most Durable

Carhartt legacy east/west tote.

This bag is made to last with a sturdy design and hardy fabrics.

The ends of the zippers don’t connect to the fabric, so small items could escape.

Camping, ski trips, beach days, and other outdoor activities can sometimes speed up the wear and tear on a tote, but that’s not the case with Carhartt’s Legacy East West Tote. We’re confident this bag is built to last due to the heavy duty 600 denier polyester and DWR coating to keep the elements from seeping into the tote. After four years of our constant use while traveling and commuting, the tote earned high praise for not showing any signs of letting up on quality anytime soon. With a zipper top and several slip pockets on the interior and exterior, there are spots to store a phone, keys, and wallets safely in the bag. There are gaps on each end of the bag because the ends of the zipper aren’t sewn to the fabric, so watch out for smaller items in the bag since they could fall out.

The Details: 16.5 x 13.5 x 7.25 inches | Polyester | Water resistant

Best for the Beach

Carve designs treasure tote bag.

Carve Designs

It's the perfect size to fit everything you need for a beach day (including small towel.)

We wish it had some small pockets for storing accessories.

Whether you’re en route to the beach on foot or airplane, this tote bag is specifically designed for tropical vacations. While this tote is essentially one large pocket (without smaller areas to store accessories or essentials), it's the perfect size to take with you to the beach and to lunch afterward without lugging too much around. It's stylish enough that light packers may even use this as their main vacation purse and, paired with the matching treasure clutch , everything you need will be kept organized and ready to go. We love the white cloud texture of the outer materials paired with the stylish brown straps that are both comfortable and durable.

The Details: 14.5 x 15 inches | Cotton

Best for the Office

Bandolier tote bag.

It has various pockets for a laptop, sunglasses, and a water bottle.

The tote straps could be more comfortable.

A day in the office is like a mini trip, so it’s important to be organized and have plenty of space for items when you’re away from home. The Bandolier tote bag offers a spot to pack office essentials like a laptop, a water bottle, a phone charger, snacks, a wallet, and more. The laptop pocket can fit technology up to 15 inches wide, and there is a leather sunglasses sleeve to protect fragile eyewear en route to the office. There are several other zippered and slip pockets to organize smaller items or a water bottle, and the D-ring loop on the tote handle is designed to hold other Bandolier accessories like a keychain or earbud pouch. The entire bag is made with a sleek pebbled leather, including the leather tote straps, which could be more comfortable with padding. It also comes in black, brown, and gray colorways.

The Details: 18 x 12 x 6 inches | Leather | 15-inch laptop pocket | Sunglasses pocket

Best With Shoe Compartment

Minkars weekender bag.

The bag comes with a separate shoe compartment, toiletry case, USB port, laptop pocket, and plenty of other thoughtful features for travelers.

It can get heavy when packed full.

A dupe of the iconic Béis weekender bag, this wallet-friendly version has similar features for a fraction of the price. While it’s jam-packed with helpful features for travelers, it received the highest praise for the separate compartment at the bottom of the bag that can store shoes, toiletry cases, hair tools, or any other item you want to keep separate from the main compartment. The structured bag has a wide-mouth opening and is super easy to pack thanks to the 15.6-inch laptop pocket, included toiletry case, and various other pockets for staying organized. Plus, the weekender comes with convertible straps to carry it as a tote or crossbody bag as needed, and it comes in pink, black, or cream color options.

The Details: 17 x 16.5 x 8 inches | 15.6-inch laptop pocket | Shoe compartment | Toiletry bag includes | Trolley sleeve

Best Multi-use

Dakine verge weekender tote.

It’s useful for the outdoors or traveling.

It might get heavy when it’s packed full.

This spacious tote bag from Dakine is equipped for everything from camping and beach days to trips to the office and air travel. When it comes to traveling, the bag features a padded laptop sleeve for devices up to 16 inches; a handy trolley sleeve; and a separate zippered compartment in the bottom of the bag to organize items like shoes, toiletry cases, or clothing as desired. Made with durable recycled nylon and polyester, the tote looks rugged and works well as a weekender bag for camping or for packing beach day essentials like towels and snacks. Travelers can carry the bag as a tote with the top handles or it also comes with a detachable crossbody strap.

The Details: 23.5 x 16 x 11 inches | Recycled nylon | 16-inch padded laptop pocket | Trolley sleeve

Best Organization

Troubadour carrier tote.

Troubadour

It has tons of pockets to stay naturally organized while traveling.

The bag might be too large to fit underneath an airplane seat.

Minimalist and practical, Troubadour’s Carrier Tote is our favorite bag for packing efficiently and staying organized on the go. The designated laptop pocket is padded and can fit devices up to 17 inches in width — the largest pocket size for laptops of all the bags recommended. In addition to the protective laptop pocket, the tote features a quick-access phone pocket; a medium-size zippered pocket for an e-reader; and several other slip pockets for items that can easily get lost at the bottom of a bag like charging cords, lip balm, and keys. The only possible downside to this sleek bag is that the 24-liter capacity and stiffer fabric makes it difficult to fit it underneath an airplane seat.

The Details: 18 x 12 x 7.5 inches | Recycled polyester, vegan leather | 17-inch laptop pocket

Best Foldable

Away the packable carryall.

It’s a very spacious tote that comes with a stuff sack to pack it away in a backpack or suitcase.

It has a flimsy shape, so small or heavy items fall to the bottom of the bag easily.

Away’s The Packable Carryall is the perfect packable tote bag to toss in a purse whether running errands or sightseeing in a city. The tote bag is incredibly spacious when it’s folded open, but it compresses down to a mere fraction of its usual size thanks to the lightweight recycled nylon material and stuff sack. Sometimes packable bags can lack travel-friendly features, so we love that the bag features a zippered top for security; a trolley sleeve for portability; and an interior zippered pocket for storing phones, wallets, and keys while on the go. To keep track of the stuff sack, there’s also a loop to secure the zippered pouch on the inside of the tote. The unstructured design of the tote means that small or heavy items with a pool at the bottom of the bag, but beach towels , jackets, or any bulkier items will fit perfectly and provide some structure to the bag.

The Details: 19.7 x 15 x 9 inches | Recycled nylon | Water resistant | Trolley sleeve

Other Travel Tote Bags We Liked

The tote bags below still came highly recommended for travelers, but didn’t quite make our list of winners.

Portland Leather Tote Bag : It’s a very portable tote bag due to the smaller size, but it isn’t the most practical for long trips with less storage and organizational features.

Bellroy Tokyo Tote : This bag has tons of pockets and storage for just about anything you would need while traveling, but it’s on the smaller side, so it could fill up quickly.

Ogio Rise Tote : The bag can be converted from a tote to a backpack, which can be helpful for travelers, but the drawstring opening is a slight drawback for security reasons.

To create this list of the best travel totes, T+L editors and trusted travel experts recommended their favorite bags they have tested on their own travel adventures. With over 30 totes tested, we whittled down our list of the best bags for any and all travelers based on capacity, portability, ease of use, and overall value. From sleek leather totes to convertible weekender bags, we handpicked various bags that we can’t recommend enough for outdoor activities, air travel, or commuting to the office.

Tips for Buying a Travel Tote

Buy for your intended activity.

Not all tote bags are best for certain types of travel, so it’s important to invest in a bag that meets your needs. Traveling somewhere wet and rainy? You’ll want to opt for a more rugged tote bag that features waterproof or resistant materials like nylon or polyester for protecting items. Leather tote bags work well for air travel or office days, but you’ll likely want to skip bringing it to the beach or for camping where a canvas tote will hold up much better to wear and tear.

Consider organization and size requirements

When it comes to traveling by air, you’ll want to look at dimensions, organization, and other helpful features like trolley sleeves, USB ports, and convertible straps. For outdoor activities like camping and beach days, a spacious and flexible tote bag can be helpful for packing bulky items. We recommend packable or foldable tote bags for travelers looking for a backup bag to keep in a purse or suitcase, rather than using it as a bag to commute or fly with since they can lack structure and organizational features.

Prioritize comfort

Tote bags can be hard on the shoulders and hands when carried for long periods of time (i.e., navigating an airport or while out and about), so we recommend looking for lightweight materials and padded straps to reduce the possible strain. Some tote bags come with convertible straps to carry the tote as a crossbody or backpack, so be sure to look for bags with modular designs or trolley sleeves to place the bag on a suitcase if you’re looking for better portability and versatility in a tote.

While it depends on the size of a tote bag, more often than not, it will count as a personal item or possibly a carry-on bag if it’s large enough. A personal item usually has to fit underneath an airplane seat and if it doesn’t, it could qualify as a carry-on bag, so you’ll want to double-check the size restrictions of personal items for your specific airline since it varies greatly depending on the carrier.

Tote bags offer the ability to quickly and conveniently access items like a phone and wallet since the bag is kept closer to the front of your body compared to a backpack. Backpacks distribute the weight of your belongings better, but a comfortable tote bag should never be too cumbersome to carry. Look for features like padded handles or a convertible crossbody strap for comfort. Tote bags are also easier to take on and off while traveling, which is convenient when you’re on the go and maneuvering tight places such as airplanes, trains, and cars.

A family night at the museum — sleepovers and culture after dark for tots to teens

Embark on your own family night at the museum with these sleepover experiences.

From drifting off beside a dinosaur skeleton in London to watching dancers on the streets of the Maltese capital Valletta, there are plenty of ways for families to extend cultural fun beyond normal daytime hours and into or even through the night.

1. Natural History Museum, London

Best for: animal fans Just down the road from the Science Museum, the popular prehistory-themed Dino Snores sleepovers for seven- to 11-year-olds sell out fast. Families get to explore galleries by torchlight, create a dinosaur T-shirt and watch a child-focused show by a resident scientist. VIP (Very Important Palaeontologists) ticket-holders also get a camp bed near Sophie the Stegosaurus, access to an animal-handling show and a snack box for late-night munchies.

2.   Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Florida

Best for: space nerds NASA’s epic visitor centre at Cape Canaveral, home of many of the US’s space launches, runs sleepovers in two different but equally thrilling locations: a defunct space orbiter vehicle called Space Shuttle Atlantis or the Apollo/Saturn V Center, where a Saturn V moon rocket is displayed. The experience is aimed at small groups of 10- to 14-year-olds travelling with a chaperone, and has educational elements including STEM-based challenges and scavenger hunts.

3. Science Museum, London

Best for: aspiring astronauts   Designed for seven- to 11-year-olds, this vast museum dedicated to human ingenuity runs space-inspired Astronights. The experience includes workshops, science shows and sessions in both the museum’s IMAX cinema and its Wonderlab, which has seven zones dedicated to scientific phenomena. If you upgrade to a VIP ticket, you get an airbed instead of a camping mat, plus extra treats at breakfast.

4. British Museum, London

Best for: history-lovers   Created for eight- to 15-year- olds, the nocturnal adventures at this vast repository of artefacts from around the globe have a changing historic theme. Workshops, activities and storytelling help bring the past vividly to life. Families then bed down in the Egyptian and Assyrian galleries, surrounded by kings and gods from the ancient world. After breakfast the next morning, guests are privy to an exclusive gallery trail before the museum opens to the public.

5.   National Museum Cardiff

Best for: budding palaeontologists As an alternative to the popular Natural History Museum experience in London, this Welsh venue invites kids aged six to 12 on sleepovers centred around its geology and natural history exhibits. It includes a torchlit tour, craft workshops inspired by fossils from the collection and a pre-bedtime movie. VIP ticket-holders also get a visit from ‘Ranger Chris’ with one of his reptiles, time with a palaeontologist and a peek into the museum’s store of dinosaur bones.

6. Grand Théâtre, Geneva

Best for: drama students   A Swiss institution built in 1879, retaining its original beaux-arts facade, this opera house and ballet venue organises sleepovers open to all ages. Stays include a tour of the building and its maze-like backstage areas, set to a soundtrack of music from days gone by. Afterwards, you’ll bed down with your sleeping mat, sleeping bag or blanket, pillow and teddy bear in the grand foyer with its chandeliers, gilded surfaces, frescoes, wood panelling and lavish paintings.

7. Intrepid Museum, New York City

Best for: Top Gun fans Travellers to the Big Apple can sleep over in this museum on the Hudson, housed inside a Second World War aircraft carrier. The exhibits focus on American military and maritime history, and Operation Slumber gives families with kids aged six to 17 the opportunity to delve deeper into what it takes to live, eat and sleep aboard an aircraft carrier. The experience includes a torchlight guided tour of the flight deck, unlimited simulator rides and a pop-up planetarium.

History of stary oskol.

In 1300, there was a village called Ugly on the the territory of the present city. Today, it is one of the districts of Stary Oskol. At that time, the village was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and was a border crossing point on the border with the Golden Horde.

The settlement of Oskol was founded by Russian Tsar Fyodor Ioanovich’s order (Ivan’s the Terrible son) to protect the southern borders of the Russian kingdom in 1593. The bulk of the population were peasants and the military.

In 1617, the town was burned by the Poles. In 1625, 1642 and 1677, the Crimean Tatars approached Stary Oskol, but could not capture it. The town was renamed Stary Oskol (meaning Old Oskol) in 1655, when the town of Tsaryov-Alexeyev, located down the river, was renamed Novy Oskol (New Oskol). Fortifications of the town existed until the 18th century.

More Historical Facts…

Gradually, Stary Oskol turned into peaceful, commercial and merchant town - the center of an agricultural district. Industrial production was represented mainly by enterprises on processing agricultural products.

In 1780, the town got its coat of arms. In 1784, Stary Oskol like most Russian towns of that time was rebuilt according to a new plan signed by Empress Catherine II. A large number of brick houses were built, mostly two-story buildings. The historic center of Stary Oskol has been preserved to our time.

In the second half of the 19th century, the town had a wide network of schools, libraries, reading rooms, printing, secondary schools. In 1894, construction of the railway began, trade and industry began to develop rapidly.

Until the 1930s, there were eleven Orthodox churches in Stary Oskol. During the Second World War, Stary Oskol was occupied by the Germans from July 2, 1942 to February 5, 1943. In 1954, the city became part of the newly formed Belgorod region.

In the late 1960s - early 1970s, in connection with the active development of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly (the most powerful iron ore basin in the world), Stary Oskol became a major center of iron and steel industry.

Stary Oskol was declared a city of three top-priority Komsomol construction projects. The largest enterprises: Lebedinsky Mining and Processing Plant, Stoilensky Mining and Processing Plant, Oskolsky Electrometallurgical Plant became not only the city-forming enterprises, but also the largest industrial enterprises of the country. Stary Oskol experienced a new birth.

Today, Stary Oskol is a rapidly developing city, one of the leading mining and metallurgical centers of Russia.
