Within Europe, Paris is famous not just for its historical buildings but also for a modern business district called La Défense located to the west of central Paris. Named after a statue, La Défense de Paris , which was commissioned to commemorate the French soldiers who fought in the Franco-Prussian War, today La Défense is Europe's largest business zone. And if you think no one goes there, think again — eight million tourists visit La Défense each year.

The Historical Axis of Paris
If you were a crow (or, these days, a drone) you could fly along the 10-kilometre-long Historical Axis of Paris, an imaginary straight line that starts at the Louvre, runs through the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel , continues along the Champs-Elysées, dashes through the Arc de Triomphe , to continue all the way out to the center of La Grande Arche at La Défense . And here are seven surprising reasons to make that trip.
Discover What's On When You're Here...
Discover what's on when you're here, 1. la grande arche de la défense.
Succeeding French presidents toyed with the idea of creating a visual landmark to extend the Paris Axe Historique , but it was François Mitterrand who finally launched a design competition to make this idea come to fruition. In 1983, Danish architect Johann Otto von Spreckelsen was selected to create a landmark — a modern interpretation of the Arc de Triomphe . (Von Spreckelsen's Grande Arche is twice the size of the Arc de Triomphe. Notre Dame Cathedral would easily fit inside of it!)
Instead of honoring military victories, the monumental arch is dedicated to humanitarian ideals. L'Arche , built in the shape of cube, is made of concrete and covered with glass and Carrara marble. The 110-metre-cubed structure was inaugurated in 1989 as part of the bicentennial of the French Revolution. The rooftop, closed for several years, has recently reopened with a breathtaking panoramic view, an exhibition area, and a restaurant.

2. La Défense Outdoor Art Collection
There's an outdoor art collection scattered around La Défense that includes works by Calder, Miro, and other world-famous artists. César Baldaccini is represented by his iconic sculpture of a 40-foot thumb. in total there are seventy pieces of contemporary artworks sprinkled throughout the district. The concept was an ambitious project initiated in 1958, just when the modernization of the area began. Some of the works are found on the main place of La Défense , others are hidden between skyscrapers.

3. l'araignée rouge – the red spider.
American artist Alexandre Calder's (1898 to 1976) 50-foot sculpture was commissioned in 1974 to give the main esplanade of La Défense a more human-scale feel. An engineer by training, Calder built L'Araignée Rouge based on six vertical panels that were welded in a factory and assembled on site, using special bolts designed by the artist himself. Alexander Calder's love affair with France began with his arrival in Paris in 1926 and continued until his death in 1976.
4. Green Spaces
In a district that includes almost a hundred skyscrapers, green spaces don't exactly spring to mind. However, there are a bevy of parks, places , and green spaces that dot the landscape of Europe's most expansive business area.
Cours Gambetta features a small body of water, trees, and grass. In spring, Japanese cherry trees blossom in Place de l'Iris . Parc Diderot covers 2½ acres with a garden set around a large waterfall and a collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, and boxwoods cut into squares and other shapes.
There's even a vineyard! Centuries ago, La Défense was home to some famous vineyards, close to the forest of Saint-Germain. Today, what remains is Clos de Chantecoq . In 2007, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes were replanted on ten acres at La Défense .

5. tour initiale.
The oldest office tower at La Défense , Tour Initiale (that means, like, "First Tower"), stands at 109 metres high and was completed in 1966. Its simple linear form reflects the restrictions placed on the design of buildings La Défense at the time. You can see the influence of Frank Lloyd Wright's Johnson Wax Headquarters in Wisconsin with its rounded corners. Engineer Jean Prouvé created the unique glass curtain wall. At the time, the curved glass corners could only be made in the USA, whence they were shipped to Paris.
- 1 Terrasse Bellini
6. Coeur Défense
Completed in 2001, this 161-metre-high skyscraper reflects the loosening of restrictions on form and height by the end of the 20th century. ( Coeur Défense is not the tallest building at La Défense . That title belongs to Tour First at a soaring 231 metres, first built in 1974, with extra height added in 2011.) The Coeur Défense's two towers are connected with an undulating form that breaks up the mass of the building, making it appear more slender.

7. la défense de paris – the sculpture.
In 1878, a competition was held to create a sculpture to commemorate those who participated in the defense of Paris during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. Hundreds of proposals were presented by the most famous sculptors of the time, including Rodin. Instead, the jury chose Louis-Ernest Barrias. For Barrias, this marked the beginning of a successful career.
( This was the same period when the French National Assembly voted to turn over the most visible land in Paris to the Catholic Church to build a church in order to "expiate the crimes of The Paris Commune ", a citizens uprising that took over Paris in 1871 just after the Prussians left. The result was the still-controversial — and some say eyesore — Sacre-Coeur on the Montmartre hill.)
La Défense de Paris is a monumental sculpturein which the city of Paris is depicted as a woman dressed in the National Guard uniform, standing proudly. A young girl at her feet represents the suffering of civilians during the siege while an injured soldier beside her tries to load his rifle. He represents the resistance of the people of Paris.
The bronze sculpture was originally placed in the middle of a busy, six-lane traffic circle. But in 1983 it was decided to move the sculpture to La Défense . Today, this piece of 19th-century art is situated on the esplanade, amidst all that modern art, and maintains an important place at the center of the district.
Experience the Splendor Of Versailles
La défense history 101.
In that infamous period of urban planning known as The Sixties (the 1960s, to be clear) proposals were made for skyscrapers to be built throughout Paris, with the intention of "echoing the beauty of the Eiffel Tower". However, in 1972 when the tall, controversial, and massive 210-metre-high Tour Montparnasse was completed, there was a public outcry.
Further construction of skyscrapers within the Paris city limits was halted. So, city planners looked westward, just two miles outside of Paris, to plan their future skyscraper city. Initially, buildings were restricted to rectangular 30-floor-high structures, but over time, these restrictions were loosened. Today, there are 72 glass and steel buildings, with 180,000 daily workers, and 3,500,000 square metres (38,000,000 square feet) of office space.

Paris – la défense: how to create a business district for paris.
Languages available: EN ES FR
Customizable tour: Yes
Recommended group size per guide: 25
Duration: 4 hours
DESCRIPTION – Paris: La Défense: how to create a business district for Paris?
The district of La Défense is not only one of the most emblematic urban projects in Paris . It is a modern business district located at the west area of Paris.
The business center of Paris is grandiose, surprising, innovating. Today, it is the biggest business center in Europe where more than three thousand companies have their offices or their headquarters.
Built since 1958 as a main element on the Triumphal Road of Paris, La Défense is today the example type of urbanisme sur dalle, érigé of towers.
We will go and see the most beautiful collection of towers, more and more more innovating: The Grande Arche, the CNIT, the Areva tower, the Hekla tower … There, the towers are updated to the contemporary environmental needs and prescriptions.
The original plan and design was conceived in the middle of the twentieth century, with the aim of transforming the west suburbs of Paris into a business district like the city of London. During the 1960’s the CNIT building by Robert Edouard Camelot, Jean de Mailly, Bernard Louis Zehrfuss and the collaboration of Jean Prouvé and Pier Luigi Nervi and the first skyscraper by Jean de Mailly were built. The architecture of La Défense has evolved to keep pace with various economic and social changes.
The Grande Arche by Johann Otto von Spreckelsen in the extended centre line of the Tuileries history dates from 1989 and provides a counterpoint to the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs Elysées , symbolizing the gateway to the future. This building marks a new stage in the district in which the extension of the Metro makes La Défense the district initially planned.
La Défense is also an open air museum dedicated to the contemporary sculptures. We will see the most beautiful sculptures among the sixty monumental ones.

- La Défense in Paris, Europe’s largest business district
La Défense in Paris, Europe’s largest business district
Last Updated: 17 April 2024
La Défense is Europe’s largest purpose-built business district to the West of Paris . The district showcases France’s great leap into the 21st century. For many visitors to France who come to Paris with a preset image in their mind, the Business District is somewhat unexpected, and its true value lies in its position at the far end of the Historical Axis . La Défense is indeed the height of the Historical Axis, which starts at the Louvre and continues through the Place de la Concorde , the Champs-Elysées and the Arc de Triomphe .
About the business district of La Défense
The Central Business District [CBD] of La Défense is not a French commune, and its territory is shared by three municipalities: Courbevoie , Nanterre and Puteaux .
All three communes are part of the département of Hauts-de-Seine (92). The CBD is managed by a public development authority, the EPADESA (Établissement public d’aménagement de la Défense Seine Arche). For 50 years, French State involvement catalysed economic dynamism in the Western suburbs of Paris. In the coming years, EPADESA will invest 2 billion euros, generating 30,000 FTE jobs.
History of La Défense
The area of La Défense was once along the path that led to the castle of Saint-Germain en Laye , the country residence of the Kings of France, ideally located on the edge of a vast forest where they could hunt.
Linking the Louvre to Saint-Germain-en-Laye
The idea to link the Louvre to Saint-Germain en Laye with a straight road over the little hill of Chantecoq emerged during the 15th century. The crossing of the River Seine at Neuilly was eased by the installation of a ferry, later replaced by a stone bridge when, on the 9th of June 1605, the King’s coach fell into the water.
During the reign of Louis XIV, the axis became the obligatory route to reach the forest of Saint-Germain and was strictly aligned on the Historical Axis that architect Le Nôtre had worked on from the Tuileries .
To the Chantecoq Hill and beyond!
However, it was urban architect Perronet who laid out the road in a direct line from the Champs-Elysées in 1766 to the top of the Chantecoq hill, which is now the location of the Grande Arche . At that point, the architect shaped a round intersection similar to that on Place de l’Etoile and called it “ Etoile de Chantecoq ” or “ Place de la Demi-Lune ” (Half-moon square).
In 1863, Napoleon III erected a statue of Napoleon Bonaparte in the centre of the square and renamed it “ Rond-Point de l’Empereur ” (Emperor Roundabout).
A statue that gave the district its name!
In the 1870s, following the Franco-Prussian War , the local authorities commissioned Louis Ernest Barrias to make a new statue to replace that of Napoleon, which was to pay homage to the defenders of Paris: “ La Défense de Paris ”. Since then, the new name given to the square was, by extension, applied to the whole area: La Défense. The historic statue is still visible on its plinth right in the middle of the esplanade amidst high-rise buildings.
A high-rise district from the 1950s
In the 1950s, the authorities decided to create a significant business centre outside Paris in the residential and industrial district of La Défense. First, the CNIT (National Centre for Industries and Technologies) was built with its unique shape of a triangular vault resting on three supports, and then a plethora of skyscrapers whose highest reach 200 metres.
The “dalle” of La Défense
In order to not block the fantastic vista of the Historical Axis but still allow traffic to flow without constraints, it was decided to construct the “Dalle”, a concrete slab that slopes gently from the Pont de Neuilly up to the Grande Arche .
This artificial platform ingeniously hides all the transport links (motorway A14, the roads, métro and train railway lines) to create a vast pedestrian area offering fine views of the Arc de Triomphe in the distance.
The “Grande Arche de la Fraternité”
The gigantic and stunning Grande Arche is 110 metres tall by 112 metres deep and can hold Paris’ Notre Dame cathedral within its arch. The magisterial modern triumphal arch is undeniably a successful project, blending perfectly with the surroundings thanks to its contemporary outline of white marble. Alongside the Eiffel Tower , it is probably Paris’ most imposing monument.
Find out more about the Grande Arche .
Explore La Défense by night
Exploring La Défense during sunset and into the night unveils an entirely different and captivating dimension of this bustling business district. As the sun dips below the horizon, the iconic skyline undergoes a remarkable transformation, with the glass façades of the skyscrapers reflecting the warm hues of twilight. The shimmering lights gradually illuminate, casting a magical ambience contrasting with the daytime hustle. The Grande Arche, standing as a modern marvel, becomes a beacon of light against the darkening backdrop, evoking a sense of grandeur.
During these hours, the district takes on a quieter yet enchanting atmosphere, providing an opportunity for more introspective exploration. The meticulously designed architectural features and artistic installations are subtly accentuated by strategically placed lighting, giving a sense of discovery with each step. The pedestrian pathways, often busy during the day, reveal a more intimate side, allowing visitors to appreciate the modernity and urban aesthetics without the distractions of crowds.
Furthermore, as the night deepens, the reflections in the surrounding ponds and fountains create an almost surreal scene, enhancing the allure of this urban oasis. The towering skyscrapers, illuminated and stretching into the night sky, offer a glimpse into the beating heart of Paris’s business endeavours. It’s a moment to savour the symbiosis between the sleek modernity of La Défense and the timeless beauty of the City of Lights.
In essence, experiencing La Défense from sunset into the night is akin to witnessing a symphony of architecture, light, and tranquillity. It’s a chance to appreciate the district’s multifaceted personality, inviting visitors to connect more intimately with its contemporary charm while cocooning in the evocative ambience that only the night can bestow.

When you think of culture in Paris , La Défense doesn’t immediately spring to mind – primarily, it’s a business district, much like London’s Canary Wharf. However, it’s about time this perspective was upturned. In this article, we give you a glimpse into just a handful of the district’s hidden architectural and artistic highlights.
Marvel at Joan Miró’s abstract sculptures
The most unexpected sight in La Défense is a sculpture display by Spanish artist Joan Miró (1893 – 1983) . The piece is called Pair of Lovers Playing with Almond Blossoms and was created in 1976, less than a decade before Miró’s death.
While they might seem a little out of place at first, the brightly-coloured, creative shapes of Miró’s sculptures prove that the area isn’t just for serious people in suits. It’s a subtle hint that the district is bursting with unexpected surprises, for those who are willing to explore.
Immerse yourself in an open-air museum
The Joan Miró sculptures might be the most vibrant, imposing works of art to catch your attention in La Défense, but there are other artistic gems lurking in the shadows waiting to be discovered as well. Scattered between the buildings of La Défense is a magnificent open-air museum , with 60 works of art signed by great modern and contemporary artists.
These include Calder’s Red Spider , César’s The Thumb, the Vegetal Chimney by François and La Défense de Paris by Barrias. You can also book a guided open-air art space tour to make sure you don’t miss any notable works.
1. Watch the sun set under the Grande Arche
This cube-shaped monument first opened in 1989 after being selected to win a national design competition launched by former French president François Mitterrand. Known as La Grande Arche de La Défense, it rises up against the Parisian skyline like a 20th-century version of the Arc de Triomphe. Its jaw-dropping size, 110 metres tall and wide, is so huge that it could actually fit the Notre-Dame Cathedral within its arch. It’s most incredible to visit when the sun sets in the centre of the Grande Arche vault.
Be mesmerised by the Fontaine Agam’s mosaics
The Fontaine Agam is one of the most unusual and spectacular fountains in Paris. With 66 water jets and a vibrant pattern of mosaics that rise majestically from the road below, it’s a magical place to visit in La Défense.
If you’re planning to stop by a boulangerie and buy a sandwich to eat on the go, then this is a great spot to tuck in by the side of the fountain. There’s a calm tranquillity to be found in the beauty of its basin.
2. Visit the Cathédrale Sainte Geneviève et Saint Maurice
From the famous Notre-Dame on the Île de la Cité to the Grande Mosque of Paris, places of worship are some of Paris’ most popular attractions. The Cathédrale Sainte Geneviève et Saint Maurice is not only a beautiful, overlooked example of religious architecture in the city, but it is also rooted in some fascinating history. Sainte Geneviève, after whom the cathedral is named, was born around the year 420, supposedly in the spot where the cathedral stands today. Legend has it that Sainte Geneviève was born with healing powers and so, many tourists flock to pray by the ‘healing waters’ of the well. You can also visit the sarcophagus that holds Sainte Geneviève’s remains.
Architecture lovers can enjoy a guided tour
The Grande Arche vault might be the most iconic landmark in this business district, but there are plenty more architectural wonders to be discovered, too.
There are unique and unusual buildings designed by internationally renowned architects at every turn in this district. These include the imposing Centre of New Industries and Technologies, one of the first ever buildings in La Défense, and the pioneering towers of the 1960s, right through to more recent, bold additions like D2 or Majunga.
Even now, renovations, developments and new buildings mean the area is constantly reinventing itself. The best way to learn about what makes this district so architecturally special is to enjoy a guided tour by a local expert.
Track down the Berlin Wall
A small segment of the Berlin Wall, the concrete barrier that physically and ideologically divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989, can be found next to one of the office buildings in the La Défense area of Paris.
It can be a little difficult to find, unless you know exactly where to look, but there are tours on offer that can help you track down this hidden relic.
Some of these walks are combined with a street art tour, including the work of Catherine Feff, for example, a Parisian artist and painter born in 1954. Such tours give a rare insight into the most overlooked district in Paris.
3. Shop at Les Quatre Temps
Shopping Mall
Whether you prefer to browse tiny designer boutiques or dash by the bigger outlets, Les Quatre Temps offers an impressive selection of shopping options. The centre brings together all the hottest brands under one convenient roof. The best time to shop here tends to be between January and February, during the winter sales, or soldes , which are mandated by the French government. During this time, shops must slash prices on pretty much everything, with up to 75% in price reductions.

By: Author Christine Rogador
Posted on November 28, 2023
Are you planning a trip to La Defense and looking for the best things to do there? We’ve got you covered! La Défense, only a stone’s throw from the center of Paris, is an area that exemplifies the ideal balance of modernism and tradition.
This is the French capital’s main commercial center and a spectacular example of architectural brilliance. There are several things to do in La Défense, from towering buildings to open-air art galleries and delectable food. The top things to do in La Defense are listed below.
Things you'll find in this article
1. Admire the View at the Top of Grande Arche
2. be amazed at europe’s skyscrapers at la defense, 3. check out the la défense art collection, 4. visit the nanterre cathedral, 5. browse and buy from westfield les 4 temps, 6. take a walk at parc des anciennes mairies, 7. don’t miss the food trucks at la defense, 8. wander at andré malraux park, 9. see the la défense de paris statue, 10. arrive at the skyline lounge bar, 11. witness the agam fountain, travel tips and resources.
The gigantic Grande Arche de La Défense, standing on the outer edges of Paris, is a 20th-century counterpart of the Arc de Triomphe.
The monument pays tribute to humanity as well as humanitarian values rather than military accomplishments. It is undoubtedly Paris’ most imposing landmark, beside the Eiffel Tower.
The Grande Arche’s simplicity was only matched by the intricacy of its prestressed beam construction.
The Grande Arche not only takes pride in its place on the western end of the Historical Axis, but urban designers also place it in such a manner that it provides a different viewpoint, with an ideal orientation facing the Eiffel Tower along with the Tour Montparnasse.
Regular tickets are $15.86, discounted tickets are $12.69, and student tickets are $10.58. Visitors who are retired, jobless, or handicapped can obtain discounted tickets. Tickets for youngsters aged 3 to 18 are $7.40. Children under the age of three are admitted free of charge.
La Défense is Europe’s biggest purpose-built commercial zone, comprising 1,450 acres and employing 190,000 people on a daily basis, with 71 glass and steel structures, 20 of which are finished skyscrapers, and there are 24 in the Paris region.
The Hermitage Plaza construction is set to become Europe’s tallest building. There will be three towers in all, with the shortest completed in 2014.
The last two buildings, which will stand 320 meters tall and have 86 storeys, are now under construction. The project is expected to be completed in 2027.
The Musée à Ciel Ouvert was established in 1972 as part of an ambitious public order agenda and offers a one-of-a-kind trip across the commercial area centered around 76 colossal pieces.
Some of the pieces displayed in La Défense are Agram’s Fountain, as well as Miró’s Characters, in addition to Takis’ Pond, Moretti’s Chimney, César’s Thumb, along with Serra’s Slat. This museum is open 24 hours a day and is free to all visitors.
We propose that you buy an art map if you don’t like to skip any artwork, especially those belonging to your favorite artist. This may be obtained from the Info Defense kiosk in the square.
You may also pre-download it from the La Defense site . This website also contains details about guided tours as well as the art pieces themselves.
Nanterre Cathedral exists as a Roman Catholic cathedral in the French town of Nanterre. The church houses the Bishop of Nanterre. After the founding of the diocese in 1966, it was renamed Nanterre Cathedral from Nanterre Parish Church.
Saint Geneviève grew up in Nanterre in the year 420 and was raised there. Legend has it that she performed miracles here, including restoring her mother’s eyesight with well water and adding the crypt of the chapel that was previously her house’s cellar.
The shopping mall Westfield Les 4 Temps was established in the early 1980s and refurbished in 2008. In terms of sales, it immediately became France’s leading retail center.
It now has about 200 different businesses, including Europe’s largest Zara, an Auchan supermarket, a UGC cinema, and approximately 50 eateries.
A Westfield Les 4 Temps – CNIT smartphone application can be downloaded on Google Play and the App Store for viewing the center’s timetables, news, and events. You may also make use of click-and-collect assistance, a restroom, and free internet at Les 4 Temps.
This park, situated in the center of the old town, has a surface area of 14,100 m2 and is well-known for its flowers, magnificent trees, playground, and pond. It is a hub of activity and entertainment, hosting events including the Parade and The Giant Farm.
The Royal College of Religious of the Abbaye Sainte-Genevieve was situated on the site, and the first stone was set by Queen Anne of Austria in 1642.
One of the benefits of being in such a busy business center is that there are several food alternatives. Many dozen food trucks started to make visits at La Défense lunch hour in recent years.
There is a wide range of cuisine offered, ranging from fusion to classic French to Italian. They are usually located in Parvis de La Défense, but their location varies often.
Puccia on the road? You’ve got it here. La Puccia is a light and crispy Italian bread baked over a wood fire, ideal for delightful hot sandwiches garnished with fresh ingredients from the region.
During the early hours of the morning, there will be two coffee trucks if you need a coffee to wake you up. A weekly calendar is offered to locate each food truck and location based on the day.
The departmental park, developed by landscaping architect Jacques Sgard and built between 1970 and 1978, is situated in the middle of Nanterre. This beautiful park covers a surface area of 26 hectares and is made up of gentle hills with meandering trails.
Structures surround the park, most notably Jacques Kalisz’s terraced structures to the north. As a result, there is no visible cut separating the park from the neighboring buildings.
Climbing, fishing, running, and street work are all options for sports aficionados. Kids are not left behind, with a typical games area including a merry-go-round available all year. In the summer, there will be a water play area just for them.
This park is a wonderful refuge of serenity and nature in the midst of La Défense’s skyscrapers and structures. Visitors may wander along the tree-lined paths, rest on the lawns, or observe the park’s contemporary artworks.
There are three figures that represent Paris’ defense: a lady clad in National Guard attire, resting on a cannon and clutching a flag, an iconic image of Paris, a young guard who inserts a final cartridge in his gun and a prostrate girl embodies the misery of ordinary people with her sorrowful look and wretched appearance.
Louis-Ernest Barrias began his career as a painter before transitioning to sculpture under the supervision of François Geoffroy. He won the Prix de Rome at the age of 23 and was recruited on the Paris Opera site.
Barrias created a great combination of neoclassical, passionate, and realistic currents via multiple works displayed in public spaces, nourished by structural references to Michelangelo.
The Skyline Lounge & Bar, located on the 19th floor of the Mélia Paris La Défense hotel, is a must-see in the west of Paris. Consider an exquisite and cozy atmosphere, a patio with an uninterrupted view of Paris and the Eiffel Tower, and a refined drink and tapas menu.
For $15.86, the Skyline bar provides two drink menus: one classic with exquisite tapas and one with distinctive cocktails. The Apple Sky or the End Of All Risk will whisk you away to heaven!
You may order a variety of beverages and tapas while admiring the view from the restaurant’s room or the rooftop patio.
The typical price for an appetizer and a main meal, or a main course including a dessert, is $29.61. The beverages are not included.
The Agam Fountain is a magnificent work of art. It gives a beautiful perspective of the Grande Arche thanks to its mosaic and 66 jets, making it one of the most romantic sites in Paris La Défense.
Yaacov Agam, an artist born in 1928, became interested in the kinetic movement during the early 1950s.
He communicates to the observer through metallic structural features, methods that include sound and light, or fluids such as water, who, as he wanders about, enjoy new dimensions of the artwork by finding its numerous possibilities.
Under the pool, there’s a machinery area the same size as the pool, with two water retention tanks running the length of the chamber.
The first basin collects, filters, and treats the water that falls from the cascade; 16 pumps convey the water to the second basin, which is located directly below the jets & adjacent to the first. The water will flow from this basin.
Final Thoughts on the Best Things to Do in La Defense
For visitors looking for a contemporary, international, and creative side of Paris, La Défense provides a really distinctive and intriguing experience. From its renowned architectural treasures to its thriving cultural scene and delectable gastronomic delights, this region is a must-see.
Whether you enjoy modern art, are a foodie looking for gastronomic pleasures, or simply enjoy beautiful cityscapes, La Défense offers something for everyone.

A hyper-connected neighborhood, ever more accessible
At the heart of a major public transportation hub, La Défense is connected to central Paris and Ile-de-France’s principal business poles, all accessible in less than 10 minutes.
– Transportation hub : RER A, T2, Métro 1, Transilien, bus… The tower is served by an exceptional and modernized multi-transport station. – Extension of the Eole RER E : In 2022, the extension of the Eole RER E will give direct access to Trinity via the CNIT. – Grand Paris Express ring road : in 2025, the site will be connected to the Grand Paris Express which will provide direct liaisons with the airports and major centers of Greater Paris. – Construction of a TGV station : eventually, La Défense will be directly connected to the Normandy Region and Europe’s biggest capitals.
Reception lobby
Firmly anchored in the city, Trinity’s lobby is a place for encounters and exchange. It’s the living foundation that activates the tower’s dynamism.
Flooded with natural light, the lobby encourages multiple uses: a quick work session at the Plug & Work station, an informal meeting at the Press & Drink, a moment of relaxation in the lounge space.
It’s a unique place to receive and exchange.
The living heart and the duplexes
Because the office of tomorrow will first and foremost be diverse and collaborative, the heart of the Trinity tower is conceived as a forum in which to exchange, thus encouraging the circulation of people and ideas.
A living heart that creates a new workspace
Modules of 4 stories allow companies to organize themselves around smaller units on a more human scale. Veritable cocoons favorable to new ways of working and creativity: suspended meeting rooms, terraces and loggias. Strategically located near the elevators, these creative hives are easily identified and become natural meeting points in which to exchange ideas.
Duplexes to open up the office
At the summit of the tower, six floors are fused into three duplexes. An innovative configuration created to encourage interaction and knowledge sharing.
Trinity proposes innovative spaces, conceived to ensure the comfort of employees and strengthen agility.
As one climbs the stories of the tower, Trinity reveals its effervescence and dynamism. Its flow is open to the outside world and asserts the strong relationship between the tower and the city.
Panoramic elevators
For the first time in France, the elevators of an office tower have been installed on the façade. They facilitate communication between floors, offering exceptional views of the urban landscape.
Technological prowess
Freed from the constraints of traditional techniques, the connections between the different floors of Trinity are optimized and the average waiting time for elevators is improved.
With its unique elevators and its easier liaisons, Trinity allows one to rise up every day.
Upper Floors
Modulable and flexible, the floors can be easily reconfigured according to company needs, in harmony with new ways of working.
Floors flooded with natural light
Benefiting from triple exposure and bioclimatic facades, the office floors are conceived to maximize the comfort of users. For added comfort, every other window opens, giving occupants access to fresh air throughout the floor.
Optimized circulation
For the first time in an office tower, the circulation zones have also been conceived as places of life. Perfectly integrated into the workspaces, they improve flow and encourage communication.
Each day, Trinity invites its users to live to the rhythm of the light.
Taking a break and disconnecting is essential to effectiveness, so Trinity invites its occupants to get out into the fresh air and enjoy the view.
Because nature stimulates gray matter, every floor is extended with outside spaces. Terraces and loggias allow employees to go outside for a quick break or even organize an open-air meeting.
Its green spaces are easily adaptable according to the wishes of future occupants to work differently and stimulate productivity.
The Business Center
Trinity has lots of surprises: throughout the building, exceptional reception spaces enrich the daily experience of residents.
A rooftop Business Center
On the 25th floor, exceptional reception spaces have been designed to unite company employees and partners. The completely glassed-in panoramic terrace and the Business Center are as welcoming as they are unexpected.
A skylobby opening onto the city
On the 15th floor, the glassed-in skylobby and its double-height ceiling opens onto a vast landscaped terrace. This space gives companies the opportunity to receive or assemble while taking advantage of an astonishing view of the city.
Offices at the summit
On the top floor, the offices have 3.5-meter ceilings and overlook the entire city.
All through the day, the inhabitants of Trinity appropriate these spaces where one cannot but be dazzled by the view.

Completely renovated in 2000 by the Swiss architect Hervé Dessimoz, the W Tower, formerly known as Winterthur, is composed of a central reinforced concrete core. Designed according to the same principle as its neighbor Franklin, it is, with its 32 floors, the smaller of the two Siamese twins.
A word about the architect
Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1957, Jean-Robert Delb was entrusted with the construction of this tower in 1974. Author of numerous office buildings, Jean-Robert Delb founded his own agency in 1961. After several collaborations in France and Morocco, he became particularly active in western Paris.
He built many office buildings and was also the author of one of the most important residential towers in Paris: the Bourcy Tower in the 18th district. In the 1970s, in association with Michel Chesneau and Jean Verola, the architect designed four towers in La Défense: W, Franklin, Atlantique and Europe.
