historic photo of Idaho Springs

In his explorations, Jackson discovered a bluish mist from a nearby canyon. Jackson found hundreds of mountain sheep grazing on green grass – a result of the warm vapors from the hot springs nearby. He set up camp, and the next morning built a fire on a sandbar on Chicago Creek. Jackson used his coffee cup to pan the sand and found nine dollars worth of gold. He marked the spot and returned to tell his friend Tom. A few months later he came back with 22 miners and they discovered $1,900 of gold within the first seven days (Today, equivalent to one million dollars).

Jackson’s Diggings

Idaho Springs has had many names, such as Jackson’s Diggings and Sacramento City, but it was finally named Idaho Springs in June of 1859, when the area was formally organized and recorded in Colorado history.

400 people lived in the settlement at that time. Between 1870 and 1900 many homes and businesses were established.

By the late 1930’s, Highway 40 was constructed. In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, Interstate 70 was built and again changed the landscape. The town became more accessible to both residents and tourists.

Virginia Canyon Mountain Park (VCMP)

Year-round Mine Tour and Gold Panning

Included in the cost of your tour is gold panning. Try your luck and take home a little bit of actual gold. Panning is done in the stream next to the mine. This stream carries gold down from the mountains and past the mine where guides will teach you how to properly pan for it.

The temperature inside the mine stays around 45°F all year. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and pack a lunch as none is provided at the mine. Scenic picnic areas are available close by.

A gift shop sells several mining books and numerous mineral specimens. For those looking to do a little hiking, there are two trails on the property, leading to the Little Albert Mine and the Kelly Mine, as well as one that takes you above the Phoenix Mine.

Zipping here offers a chance to learn about mining history, fly through treetops on a canopy adventure and enjoy fun Clear Creek, one of the most lively river sections in Colorado. The zip line park is designed to deliver thrills for everyone from timid first timers to extreme outdoor enthusiasts. We’ll welcome you in style at our beautiful base camp facility conveniently located along I-70. Professionally trained instructors will teach you the skills you need and escort you through this 3 hour zip line adventure. We are an easy drive from Summit County, Winter Park and the Vail Valley. Located just 35 minutes from the Denver Metro Area, your Colorado adventure is closer than you think!

what our guests say

Tara Lemke

Now that you’ve learned a little history about the adventures you can take part in, book yours today!

A  zip line consists of a cable or series of cables mounted onto anchor points on either end of the cable that allow movement from one end to the other. They have been around a long time, sometimes used instead of bridges in remote mountain areas or to move supplies from one side of a river to the other. Zip line participants attach their harness to a trolley system that is mounted on the cable, using the force of gravity to traverse the line from one end to the other. Some zip lines go over canyons, some through tree canopies, while others start on man-made towers that participants climb to initially gain height. All this sounds technical and, of course, does not describe the fun part — the absolute thrill of flying through the air and screaming with delight! And don’t worry, we do teach you how to stop.

Kids of all ages are welcome! Our minimum height of 48 inches, and a minimum weight of 65 pounds with a maximum weight of 250 pounds for the Idaho Springs Zip line. All children under 14 years must be accompanied by a participating adult. Please call our office with any questions. Participants must be able to fit into our harnesses and be in good health. If you are pregnant, have heart trouble, or other medical concerns, please consult your doctor before participating. You will be required to sign an Assumption of Risk Waiver prior to your participation.

Because you’ll be wearing a climbing harness, we recommend pants but knee-length shorts are fine (no short shorts). No loose clothing or jewelry. Long hair needs to be pulled back. For your safety, bare feet, sandals and flip flops are not allowed. Closed-toe shoes are required. Sorry, no Crocs! We also suggest a strap for your sunglasses/glasses, and if the sun is shining, then bring the sunscreen.

A little rain won’t stop the fun! However, we reserve the right to delay or pause the adventure up to 45 minutes due to weather conditions that might affect your safety. If we are unable to resume the adventure, we will either reschedule your trip for a later time, provide you a credit for a future trip or refund you.

Since we can’t retrieve cameras dropped in the river, we have hired professional photographers to record your memories. They will capture the expression of your kids’ faces as they scream across the zip line! Be sure to stop by the photo display to review your photos that are also available for purchase.

Safety is our number one concern! We use only the highest quality equipment, and our course has been designed, constructed, and inspected by a professional vendor member of the Association for Challenge Course Technology. Our zip line and ropes course staff is fully trained to ACCT standards, and inspects the course and gear daily. As with any outdoor adventure experience, some inherent risk is involved.

Our zip line has a limited capacity. Advanced reservations are highly recommended. However, we are happy to accept last minute reservations as space allows. Please call 720-734-3386 .

We require full payment at the time of reservation and our cancellation policy differs, depending on whether or not you have purchased our Worry-Free Cancellation plan . We highly recommend purchasing our Worry-Free Cancellation plan , as it allows you the flexibility you many need. Please click here  to review our cancellation policy.

Book online right now or call our reservations department to book your Zip Line Adventure today!  Please call 877-ZIP-RAFT (947-7238).

Your trip time is your departure time! Please arrive by that time and check in promptly at our basecamp. Before participating, you will need to sign our Assumption of Risk Waiver. Our professional staff will then provide a safety briefing, demonstration, and fit you with a harness, helmet, and gloves. Now you are ready for take-off. Enjoy Your Flight!

We do not charge taxes on our services because we are not required to by law. We are, however, required to pay numerous fees to many local, regional and state organizations, including but not limited to the City of Idaho Springs, Clear Creek County, Division of Oil and Public Safety (OPS), Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Colorado Department of Revenue and our property owner.

In addition to those fees, our booking software and credit card fees charge a large percentage of each transaction. When weather cancels events, we eat this cost. If weather is not the cancellation reason, however, we must charge the customer to recoup that cost.

In addition, we are a voluntary member of numerous local, state and national organizations that offer regulatory and strategic support to us as an outfitter. These membership costs are not included in our fees but they do provide additional layers of safety and professionalism that not all outfitters adhere to but we are committed to following. These include: Colorado River Outfitter’s Association (CROA), America Outdoors (AO), Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) and more.

The Lucky Bucket

Story of the lucky bucket.

Easterseals Rocky Mountain VIllage

The Lucky Bucket has been a part of our mine tour for many years. Those who take a tour can rub the bucket for luck, and some even place money into it to make a wish. Stories have come back to us about the luck they have received from this bucket and the happy comments are endless. Several people recall how their wishes came true; how they passed a test, were no longer ill, were able to have a child, or fell in love with the person of their dreams. In return for the luck that has been brought due to the bucket, we have passed on the luck to Easterseals by donating the money placed into the Lucky Bucket.

At the beginning of each year, we donate the bucket's proceeds to the easterseals rocky mountain village camp in memory of our brother victor. this camp, located west of idaho springs, is specially designed for special-needs individuals so that they can experience the colorado outdoors with as few limitations as possible. victor had down-syndrome and attended the easterseals rocky mountain village camp for several years when he was younger. he always looked forward to each time he got to go to camp. victor's father, al, had made several monetary contributions to easterseals throughout the years with the support of donations made to the lucky bucket. al was also instrumental in helping the rocky mountain village by constructing a nature trails around the camp. with great sadness, victor passed away on august 2, 2017 at the age of 41. he taught love to those who were fortunate enough to meet him. the love he shared continues to live on through the generous donations made to the lucky bucket..

Visiting Idaho Springs area at the end of July. I'm interested in driving all the way to the summit of Mount Evans but my 12 year old is afraid of heights and I don't think it would be enjoyable. Are there any guided tours or person(s) departing from Idaho Springs to the summit of Mount Evans?
