Licensure Requirements

Since Colorado is a compact state, nurses with a multi-state license can practice nursing within the state without applying for a Colorado nursing license.

Nurses who do not have a multi-state license will need to apply for licensure by endorsement.

RNs and LPNs applying for licensure by endorsement must:

  • Submit fingerprint and background check.
  • Submit payment of the required application fee via credit card. * All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Supply information detailing your nursing degree education.
  • Provide information regarding other healthcare licenses you may have held.
  • Provide license verification information.
  • Upload name change documentation, if applicable.
  • Declare your primary state of residence.
  • Answer general and criminal history screening questions.
  • Complete the Healthcare Professions Profile with supporting documents.
  • Provide the dates of your initial licensing exam.
  • Provide verification of all licenses held — if your state does not participate in Nursys Ⓡ , you must fill out, send, and submit a Request for Verification form.

APRNs applying for licensure by endorsement must:

  • Submit payment of the required application fee via credit card. *All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Upload verification of your National Certification
  • Attest to holding professional liability insurance.
  • Select your population focus. You must upload additional national certification(s) that correlate with each population focus if you declare multiple populations.

Additionally, if you are an APRN and hold an active multistate RN license, you must:

  • Submit verification of your Compact license via Nursys Ⓡ or a Request for Verification form.
  • Answer general and criminal history screening questions and include supporting documents.
  • Complete the Healthcare Professions Profile and include supporting documentation.

You can obtain a temporary emergency license if you are an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), Certified Nurse Aide, LPN, or RN here. Follow the online services page for information regarding specific requirements for each.
