The best travel accessories to pack on every trip

By Madison Flager

Image may contain Clothing Apparel Human Person Bag Handbag Accessories Accessory Hat and Sun Hat

Packing lists will vary based on where you're going and how long you're travelling for, but the best travel accessories can improve every trip. From tech gadgets to keep your electronics powered up and luggage accessories that ensure you're not hit with an overweight baggage charge, having the right gear means a smoother journey, every time. Below, we've rounded up 27 essential items to pack inside your carry-on bag , weekender , or checked luggage . Consider these the travel gear staples to bring on your next trip – and all your future holidays after that.

  • A trusted tote
  • A travel wash bag
  • Packing cubes
  • Jewellery case
  • Reusable travel bottles
  • Hydrating skincare products
  • A portable charger
  • A power adapter
  • A luggage scale
  • A way to find your luggage
  • An e-reader
  • A portable fan
  • A portable steamer
  • An eye mask
  • A neck pillow
  • A shawl or blanket
  • Hand sanitiser and wipes
  • A reusable water bottle
  • Snack containers
  • A passport holder
  • A back-up travel bag
  • An umbrella

1. A trusted tote

A tote bag is the ideal personal item. It's roomy enough to store all your odds and ends, and everything you'd want with you during a flight, and is usually pretty pliable, meaning you can squeeze it under the seat without taking up all of your foot room. Look for one with comfortable shoulder straps, should you overload it with snacks. A trolley sleeve is a nice feature, too, so you can slide it over your suitcase while cruising through the airport.

2. A travel wash bag

A travel wash bag is key to staying organised — and avoiding spills in your luggage. We like these options from Away and Bagsmart for their water-resistant materials and ample space for your toothbrush and toothpaste, razor, soaps, and more. A hanging bag, like those below, also allows you to keep items tidy and off the bathroom counter.

3. Packing cubes

Don't underestimate the power of a good packing cube . Articles director Lale Arikoglu has waxed poetic about her love of Paravel's packing cubes (other editors are fans of Away's set ), which come in a range of sizes to store everything from bathing suits and socks to T-shirts.

4. Jewellery case

A rule to live by: never check your valuables, especially jewellery. Keep necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings safe and neatly organised inside a jewellery case. We like Monica Vinader's for smaller accessories; if you're packing sunglasses and watches, you'll want something slightly bigger, like this Smythson option.

5. Reusable travel bottles

Rather than buy plastic travel-sized toiletries , get yourself a set of leakproof travel bottles that allow you to bring your at-home favourites on the go. They're great for storing toiletries and beauty products, and tubs can also be used to keep small items like jewellery or vitamins.

6. Hydrating skincare products

Even if you're not the type of person with a multi-step in-flight skincare routine , a few basics can go a long way in keeping your skin happy and healthy after a long day of travel. Since hand sanitiser remains a travel essential, a hand balm to apply once or twice a day is equally important to keep them moisturised. Aesop's smells incredible, and will last for several trips to come — a little bit of the thick, creamy balm goes a long way. Don't forget a hydrating lip balm, either.

7. A portable charger

There's nothing like a dead battery to slow down a trip. Keep all your accessories charged up with a power bank — Anker is our favourite, but iWalk's mini charger is a great option if you're short on space.

travel related products

8. A power adapter

For international travel, a power adapter is a must to make sure you can get devices charged up in the airport and your hotel room. Apple's World Travel Adapter Kit comes with seven AC plugs with prongs that fit into different electrical outlets around the world, and each one is labelled with the regions they are compatible with. (As for compatibility, it works with Apple USB-C power adapters; MagSafe and MagSafe 2 power adapters; 10W, 12W, 30 and 35W USB ports; and portable power adapters.) We also recommend this Bluetooth converter , which lets you use your regular cordless earbuds to watch a movie in flight.

9. Headphones

Whether the plan is to listen to music, watch a movie, or just drown out noisy neighbours, most of us won't board a plane without headphones. Make sure you have your go-to on hand, plus a pair of corded earbuds (if you don't have one of these Bluetooth adapters ).

10. A luggage scale

Give yourself some added peace of mind with a digital luggage scale; it’ll let you know how much damage your souvenirs did before arriving at the check-in counter on the way home.

travel related products

11. A way to find your luggage

Speaking of luggage, the Tile Pro and Apple AirTags can help locate lost bags (or wallets, or keys, depending on what you attach it to). In fact, a luggage tracker is one of the items contributor Harrison Pierce wishes he had when he began travelling full-time .

travel related products

12. An e-reader

Even travellers with a library full of books at home have to admit it: E-readers are an essential travel accessory for bookworms . They are so much lighter than even one paperback book, and let you bring as many options as you want along for the ride.

travel related products

13. A portable fan

If you're headed somewhere warm, or just tend to run hot, do yourself a favour and pack a portable fan. Whether you choose a handheld option or one you can wrap around your neck, it'll give you the breeze you need whether you're in the back of a crowded bus or van, standing in line at Disneyland, or kicking back in a beach chair .

14. A portable steamer

If you're travelling to a wedding or heading out on a business trip, you may want to bring a portable steamer along to make sure your formalwear looks its best after you take it out of your suitcase. Traveller contributor Erinne Magee put nine travel steamers to the test to find out which ones are the best options for travellers — below are two of her favourites.

Image may contain: Appliance, Blow Dryer, Device, Electrical Device, and Microphone

15. A tech kit

All of those tech items mean you're going to have plenty of charging cubes and cables to keep track of. Save space in your backpack — and save yourself the headache of digging through your bag — by keeping everything wrapped up in a tech kit like the ones below.

travel related products

16. An eye mask

For a comfortable journey at 30,000 feet — especially one where you hope to get some shut-eye —an eye mask is crucial. For more help sleeping, try the Bluetooth sleep headband recommended by US contributor Iona Brannon, which lets you listen to music or white noise without anything in or around your ears; in a pinch it can even double as an eye mask, she says.

travel related products

17. A neck pillow

Another comfort essential: a travel pillow . It can take some time to find the style you like best, and your pick might vary depending on whether you're in-flight or in a car. Two we like: The classic memory foam wraparound neck pillow, which can be tightened or loosened per your preference, and the innovative fleecy neck wrap recommended by commerce writer Charley Ward .

travel related products

18. Cosy socks

We love a good pair of compression socks to fight that pins-and-needles feeling that comes from sitting still for too long, be it on a long-haul flight  or a road trip . For those who prefer a cosier option, we recommend socks from Barefoot Dreams .

Ostrich Pillow, Compression Socks

19. Earplugs

When you need some peace and quiet, swap your noise-cancelling headphones in for earplugs. This set comes with multiple sizes, so you can find the right fit, and share with any family members you're travelling with.

travel related products

20. A shawl or blanket

For those who run cold, an oversized scarf will get plenty of use in transit, and can even double as a blanket. Opt for a quality material you can pack for years to come, like cashmere.

travel related products

21. Hand sanitiser and wipes

As for general wellness, hand sanitiser is a must — buy a set and drop one in all your most-used totes and sling bags so you're never without. Some biodegradable wipes are nice to have on hand too, especially if you're travelling with little ones .

travel related products

22. A reusable water bottle

Rounding out our collection of the best travel accessories are some odds and ends, like a good reusable water bottle, so you can stop buying overpriced bottles at the airport (and be kinder to the environment).

travel related products

23. Snack containers

If overpriced airport snacks aren't your jam, come prepared by filling reusable Stasher bags with popcorn, crackers, fruit, or whatever else you'd like in-flight before you leave your house. A reusable utensil set is another nice-to-have travel accessory that'll allow you to turn down the plastic cutlery you might be handed in the airport or elsewhere on the road. The spoon and chopsticks are particularly TSA-friendly (while utensils are technically allowed through security , it's at the discretion of the agent if they'll let plastic knives or forks).

travel related products

24. A passport holder

Also handy: a high-quality passport holder (bonus points if it has space to hold your credit cards) to keep your most important document protected. Aspinal's can be personalised with your initials for an added £20.

travel related products

25. A back-up travel bag

For trips where you plan to shop, something lightweight, like Paravel's Fold-Up Bag or Baggu's Cloud Bag , is a smart addition to your packing list. Stuff it with souvenirs on your way home, or use it for overnight or weekend trips within a longer holiday.

travel related products

26. A travel umbrella

Depending on your destination, a travel-size umbrella might be worth the space in your luggage. And if you're driving, tossing one in the backseat is a no-brainer. Contributor Claire Volkman tested out around a dozen options on our US sister site to determine which are the sturdiest and most compact. Shop two of her favourites, both available in the UK, below.

I was looking for ideas for gift basket for a coworker who is traveling across the country, and really loved your suggestions. It was the small ordinary things we usually overlook! Thank you

Graeme Stewart

Saturday 10th of April 2021

That's a lot of stuff to carry. I would reduce the bags to just one and save a lot of space and airline fees :)

You know that your phone has a flashlight right? That can replace the mini-light.

Otherwise, very helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Stewart,

thanks for sharing your thoughts. I gave some options here, of course. Anyway, I still believe that a mini flashlight is one of the really useful travel accessories. It takes almost nothing of space and it can be helpful. It's mini. After all, we don't need to have our phones with us all the time. :-)

Thanks for reading and taking your time to comment! I appreciate it. Milijana

Howdy Michele, I love to travel. I’ve read so many posts about travel gadgets, but you are the best one. Your article was beneficial in finding the necessary devices. I personally like an anti-theft shockproof backpack, which is ScanSmart TSA friendly and water-resistant. It is useful for everyone.

Thank you so much, Kim 🙂

' src=

Hello, I have gone through your guide and seems to be interesting though I have one more concern on the WiFi devices. Can you recommend me on the best Pocket Device that will work well on anywhere I travel. I have using AllDayWifi but its very slow on their international data plan. I have been considering RentnConnect though I know very little about it

Hi Collins, have you considered this Skyroam device ? It one of the leaders in the market and very compact.

' src=

What about this Trackimo 3G Travel Tracker device this has Light Exposure Sensor – detect/alerts when package or luggage is opened. I am currently using this tracker and i found this very useful to me every time i go travel around the world 🙂

Excellent addition Helen, thank you 🙂

' src=

A tracking device would be a great addition to this list.

' src=

Amazing! This makes traveling easier.

' src=

Definitely brilliant ideas worth sharing

' src=

This IS such a cool list! I thought I had everything, but then I found out the door travel alarm (never would’ve thought of it)!. And I wonder how good the neck support (#33) is because there were PLENTY of times I could have used something like that on my trips.

Hey Trang, the door alarm is such a great idea especially for those times when you just don’t feel safe 🙂 Is there anything you’d add to the list?

' src=

I just carry a small rubber door stop wedge.

' src=

WOW! This is one extensive list of all things travel and certainly one that I will be using to give hints to my friends and family round the holiday season. The new ScanSmart backpack along with the waterproof phone case and solar charger are on top of my list. However my top two purchases are going to be the smart suitcase and the backpack which are absolutely brilliant. Thanks for such a cool list.

' src=

Hi Michele, There are all great ideas. I have one more suggestion for you. Smart Blanket! I used it when flying to Zurich to see my son and his family. The plane was freezing, and there were no blankets to be had. I was the only one that was warm and cozy for the whole 8 hours. I love mine. Got it on Amazon http://amzn.to/2hTYlOP I paid $49.00 for mine. Think they are having a sale on them now. Hope you like my suggestion.

' src=

The door alarm and aeroplane pillow are a great idea to stay comfy and safe! I always take an extension lead when I travel; so that I have more plug sockets in a hotel room, and it also means you don’t need as many adapters when you travel. You also can’t go wrong with baby wipes and small-ish plastic bags in case a seat is wet, a bottle is leaking or you’ve got a mark on your clothes! ✈️?

All brilliant ideas Emily 🙂 Thanks for sharing. I love the baby wipes idea!

The trick to really enjoying every trip is being able to take control of your own well-being from the outset.

From keeping your important documents neatly organized in transit to finding accessories that will make your life so much easier while you are away, there are lots of awesome bits of gear out there that will help you to rest, play, and relax a little more easily on the go.

1. Travel Organizer

Keep your passport, cards, and cash all in 1 place with a handy and secure travel organizer . Compact and slim, they offer practical and well-thought-out storage space throughout.

Made from tough and durable material, a travel organizer features oversized slots to keep your passport, boarding pass, and travel documents neatly organized, as well as cardholders and zippered compartments.

A good travel organizer will not only keep your most important items close at hand, but it will also keep your cards and data safe from theft or fraud by offering RFID-blocking linings . Make it easier to access your passport, cards, and other essentials on the go by investing in a dedicated travel organizer for your next trip.

2. Passport Holder

Protect your most important travel document with a dedicated passport holder . Designed to help protect your passport from the wear and tear of regular travel , these holders come in a huge variety of styles and designs to make them easy to find in your bag.

Not only does a passport holder offer protection for your passport, but they can also offer additional storage space that lets you keep your boarding pass, tickets, and even your credit card close at hand.

Made from durable materials, a passport holder will last you through many adventures to come, and for super style-conscious travelers, you can even buy passport holders that match the style and design of your travel bag or carry-on.

3. Power Bank

With more and more backpacks and carry-on cases now offering USB charging ports as standard, a portable power bank is fast becoming a must-have accessory for tech-loving travelers.

Small, lightweight, and easy to use, a power bank will give you the extra charging power you need to give your phone or tablet a reliable power source on the move. Simply charge your power bank using a USB before leaving home to deliver anything between 1 and 4 full charges in transit .

Compact and highly capable, you can find power banks that are as slim as a credit card for emergency top-ups or invest in a slightly larger model that lets your phone, camera , or tablet charge up as you travel.

Bottom Line: These super-useful little packs of power can also be used to charge your phone while you are out sightseeing, chilling back at your hotel, or simply for portable charging back at home.

4. Neck Pillow

Avoid a stiff neck and enjoy a more comfortable sleep with a dedicated neck pillow . Made with memory foam or beaded interiors and soft and washable covers, these ergonomic and easy-to-carry portable pillows will help to support your head and neck while you snooze, read, or relax.

Designed to help relieve pressure points , these travel pillows are perfect for use on long flights or road trips, and the lightweight design makes them super easy to attach to your luggage or slip inside their own compact carry case. With lots of colors and designs to choose from, it’s easy to find the right travel pillow to keep you feeling comfortable no matter how long your journey is.

5. Sleeping Mask

Another great way to stay comfortable and relaxed in transit is by adding a sleep mask to your travel kit.

Designed to shut the world away, these easy-to-wear face masks completely cover the eye area to help you regulate your sleeping pattern. Keep bright light to a minimum and recreate a relaxing nighttime vibe, even in the middle of the day, while also helping to alleviate jet lag as you travel across different time zones.

Available in a variety of different styles and made from a wide range of materials, your eye mask needs to be thick enough to keep the light out while still feeling lightweight enough to avoid putting any pressure on your eyelids.

6. Earplugs

Earplugs are another great addition to your travel kit, and there are many different types to choose from. Wearing earplugs while you fly can help to relieve the discomfort associated with the air pressure changes that you can experience during the flight.

They also help reduce noise levels, which can offer you more peace and quiet to help you enjoy a much-needed sleep along the way. If the discomfort of “popping” in your ears while you take off and land is really uncomfortable for you, filter earplugs can equalize the pressure against your eardrum to help reduce the pain.

10. Travel Adapter

Wherever you are headed, you will probably still want to keep in touch with the folks back at home. Depending on your destination, you may need to take a dedicated travel adapter away with you .

With a range of different plug styles available, you can power your phone, laptop, tablet devices, hairdryers, and other electronics with ease, provided you choose the right type of travel adapter.

Designed to work with different voltages, you may find that a simple travel adapter or plug-to-plug adaptation is all you need, but in some cases, it may not be enough to safely power your personal devices. If this is the case, you will need to invest in a travel power converter, too.

11. Travel Converter

Not only do different countries and continents favor different-shaped power sockets, but in many cases, they also have a different range of electrical voltages charging through their wires. In the U.S., for example, power runs on 110-120 volts, whereas many other countries run at 220-240 volts .

The higher the voltage, the more at risk your appliances are from frying, so it is important that your converter makes them safe to use. There are many dual and multi-voltage appliances and converters out there, so carefully research before you buy.

12. Luggage Tags

Make your suitcase super easy to identify with a personalized luggage tag . From simple leather fobs through to brightly colored, witty, and whimsical patterns and slogans, your luggage tag offers a personalized appearance that is easy to identify at the reclaim bay .

What’s more, these tags can also be used to make a record of your personal information, so should your cases or bags go astray, they can easily find their way back to you.

21. Travel Towel

Sometimes you want to have your own towel with you while you travel. Made from super-absorbent microfiber materials, these travel towels can be folded up really small and are lightweight and easy to carry around with you .

22. Daypack

When you reach your destination, you will want a smaller bag that you can use on daily excursions and sightseeing trips.

A dedicated daypack will be able to fold up nice and small when not in use and offer the space you need to keep your wallet, cell phone, camera, snacks, and other essentials close at hand on city streets and out on the trails.

24. Bug Spray

No one likes itchy bug bites, and a reliable bug repellent will help to keep them at bay. If you are traveling to hot and humid conditions or camping out in the open, there is every chance you could end up being a bug’s favorite dinner.

These repellent sprays or creams will help to repel insects and mosquitoes by making your skin less attractive to them. Using either chemical repellents such as DEET or natural oils doesn’t just help avoid unwanted nibbles. They can also help to protect you against the more serious side effects of bug bites, including severe allergic reactions, Lyme disease, and even malaria.

25. TSA-Approved Lock

The Transport Security Administration suggests that you lock your checked baggage using a TSA-approved lock . Baring the Travel Sentry logo, you can choose from dial or key locks that are designed to be easy to open by agents to enable them to inspect your baggage and relock your bags should they need to.

Easy to use and readily available, there are lots of brilliant TSA-approved locks to choose from, and many suitcases come with them already built-in. Travel in 2022 has been defined by upset, with canceled flights, expensive tickets, and lost luggage dominating headlines. Summer was particularly challenging, with trips more popular than even before the pandemic, according to a report by the World Travel & Tourism Council . The season saw a record number of delayed flights (19%) and canceled flights (4%), making travel a nightmarish and unpredictable experience for many.

While there’s no controlling the weather or fuel prices, there is plenty travelers can do to feel empowered about seeing the world. With all these variables in flux, here are various products and services that anyone can obtain to improve the travel experience.

Personalized Travel Subscriptions

The growth of the subscription economy has led to an increased desire for expert curation and personalized recommendations. By taking a similar approach to Stitch Fix, new (and free) subscription platform VIP Traveler uses proprietary personalization technology to feed travelers bookable trips tailored to their unique tastes each week. Letting the data decide where you go is one less thing to stress about.

Contactless Airport Security

With massive airport delays, moving quickly through security has become a top priority. Especially as a result of the pandemic, travelers are seeking faster, contactless methods of identity verification, and companies like CLEAR and Corsight are using biometrics to expedite security checks. It’s still worth it to arrive to airports early, but these services can add extra confidence about timing to the experience.

Best Travel Insurance Companies

Best covid-19 travel insurance plans.

Reliable Travel Telehealth

Launched in 2022, Runway is the first-to-market tele-health service accessible 24 hours a day, seven days per week from anywhere with an internet connection. Beyond consulting doctors as needed, Runway also preps travelers for adventure by providing prescriptions for common illnesses encountered on the road, from motion sickness to insomnia to malaria.

Performance-based Clothing for All Travel Situations

With flight delays becoming more common, it’s best to avoid checking a bag. Travelers should consider brands that design clothing fit for a number of situations, from hiking to dinner in a restaurant. Hikerkind is a women’s hiking gear company dismantling the myth that aesthetics and performance cannot coexist, and their wrinkle-resistant clothing is as suitable for running through an airport as it is for sitting on the tarmac.

Peer-to-peer Car-sharing

Long lines and rising prices at the rental counter can seriously ruin a travel day. Turo is a peer-to-peer car sharing app, which travelers can use to book personally-listed rental cars from real people, rather than a car rental agency. Besides being a good platform for finding vehicles during a time when rentals are hard to come by, it’s also a great chance to drive rare or exotic cars as a treat while on vacation.

Suitcase Tracking Devices

This April, airlines lost, damaged, delayed, or pilfered nearly 220,000 of the 40 million bags that went into the sky, according to a Department of Transportation report. The best piece of advice is to avoid checking a bag at all costs. If that’s not possible, consider placing a tracking device, such as an Apple AirTag or Tile , inside your suitcase so you always know where they are.

Access to On-the-Ground Experts

Elsewhere is a platform that puts travelers in contact with local experts and guides, making it easy for travelers to personalize, tweak, and add to their itinerary. Additionally, VIP Traveler provides premium members with access to on-the-ground destination experts and a dedicated ‘Travel Stylist’ for custom trip planning, along with 24/7 support.

There are four different variations: “Slicks Pack” for everyday use, “Slicks Suit” with an add-on garment bag, “Slicks Trip” with a mobile wardrobe bag, and “Slicks Biz” (which if the fully-loaded version). This bag is like having a carry-on roller, gym bag, hiking pack, laptop bag, and briefcase—all rolled into one. Slicks is truly the “Swiss Army Knife” of backpacks, and a great option if you’re a minimalist who wants to switch from work to play effortlessly.

Bluesmart Carry-On Luggage

A connected suitcase with a GPS, weight sensor, and charger.

Bluesmart made the coolest suitcase maybe ever. Once you have it, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without one. Here are just a few of its features:

  • There’s a 10.000 mAh battery that can charge your phone up to 6 times
  • GPS and 3G technology to track your suitcase anywhere in the world
  • An automatic lock that’s enabled when you step away, and unlocks again when you return
  • A built-in suitcase scale; just pull on the handle, and the app will tell you approximately how much the suitcase weighs

If you’re looking for a sophisticated, tech-savvy suitcase to travel with, Bluesmart is just about as good as it gets.

Under-The-Jack Pack

Ultra-thin laptop bag you can wear under your jacket.

Whether you’re all about minimalism, or just going to a happy hour after work and don’t want to lug a big backpack around with you, Under-The-Jack Pack is just the thing you need. This ultra-thin laptop bag is only 1.5" wide and comes in two different sizes — for 13" and 15" computers. The shoulders and backside are padded for extra comfort, and the case itself looks slick (just in case you want to show it off on a summer day).

Blue Bottle Travel Kit

Everything you need to brew coffee. Just add water.

If you are a coffee aficionado, you know it’s hard to travel (especially off the grid) and find the perfect cup of coffee every day. Luckily, Blue Bottle Travel Kit has you covered. This kit contains everything you need to keep you caffeinated—whether you’re taking an extended road trip, or going hiking for the weekend. It comes in two sizes—The Weekender Kit and The Sabbatical Kit. Both kits come with a canvas and leather bag, a travel dripper, filters, Blue Bottle coffee, two tumblers, and a mini hand grinder. The bigger Sabbatical Kit also comes with a kettle and a scale.

Take WiFi with you everywhere, now available with LTE.

It’s the worst when you’re traveling and can’t find an internet connection when you need it most. Karma Go is an awesome solution; this device uses a nearby cellular connection and turns it into your own personal WiFi signal, anywhere you go. You’ll get LTE speeds (around 6–8Mbps, with highs of 25Mbps), can connect up to eight different devices at once, and cancel or switch your plan at any time with no hidden fees or contracts (truly). This is great tool for remote workers and travelers.

Our Favorite Travel Apps

Combine tickets to find multi-day stopovers with savings.

AirWander is a great way to explore more of the world if you have a little bit of extra time during your upcoming trips this year. The site predicts the cost of adding multi-day stopovers, and then checks all possible flight combinations to show you the cheapest options. They are also known for surfacing ridiculously good world-tour flight deals. Bon voyage!

Your personal travel assistant that tells you where to go.

Taylor is a super interesting, AI-powered personal travel assistant that helps you plan and make the most of your trips—whether you’re going somewhere for business or pleasure. Use this tools to find: local places to go, people you can connect with nearby, places to work, and places to sleep. If, say, you’re headed to Chicago and looking for work-friendly cafes, Taylor will pull up a list for you. If you’re looking to plan a future adventure, you’ll get a handful of suggestions based on factors like your budget and desired weather. Give this a try the next time you find yourself in a new place and need a little guidance, or are looking to book a new trip and want some fun ideas.

Smart trip planning for the “mission critical” traveler.

Travo was built to help you save time and energy planning any travel you do specifically for meetings and events. Unlike many other sites that focus on price, this app helps you get to your destination at a specific time (and also at the most efficient price). This is a must-use app for business travelers who have tight schedules and don’t want to worry about the hassle of planning down to the minute.

Cool Cousin

Shaking up the travel world with good old human connection.

Have you ever found yourself in a new city or country and thought, “What do all of the locals do here?” If so, you’re not alone. Most of us curious travelers want to have more of an authentic experience when we visit new places—but we’re usually not sure where to look. Enter: Cool Cousin . This app will connect you with awesome people from around the world—the “cool cousins”—to get the scoop on local recommendations. Whether you’re looking for a great restaurant, taking a walking tour, checking out a museum, or looking for a great cup of coffee, Cool Cousin will help you find what you’re looking for.

Find great places to fly on your budget.

Tripnary is super simple and fun to use. The search is based primarily on what you’re looking to do (e.g. beach vacation, winter getaway, local partying), as well as the price you’re looking to spend on the trip. If you plan far enough ahead, you’ll get a notification every time your ideal itinerary lowers in price. This is an especially useful app for those who are budget conscious and have flexible travel dates.

Rebook cancelled or delayed flights on any airline.

How annoying is it when you get to the airport only to realize that your flight has been canceled indefinitely, but you have to get to your final destination quickly for a business meeting, vacation, unexpected event, or something else entirely. Freebrid now helps you rebook your canceled flights, free of charge. Most airlines only allow you to rebook on their own flights, but with this app, you can book through any airline so you can finally get to where you need to be.

Discover the best travel destinations based on your budget.

DESTIGOGO is another great budget-driven trip planner. Just plug in where you’re leaving from, how many days you’d like to leave for, your approximate budget, and whether you want sun, city, adventure, snow, or road trip vibes. Let’s say you’re departing from Boston, craving some sun, have five days to travel, and a $1,000 budget to work with. Some of the results you’ll find include: Santiago, Chile; Portiamo, Portugal; Nashville; Saint Augustine; and Mykonos, Greece. (All prices include hotel and airfare.) Give this fun site a whirl the next time you want to take a spontaneous adventure somewhere around the world.

The Purpose Hotel

Change the world in your sleep.

The Purpose Hotel is a great example of what can happen when you take something people need and fuse it with a social mission. Everything inside of this proposed hotel has a purpose — from the coffee and artwork, to the sheets and the soap. Originally, this launched as a Kickstarter campaign with an ambitious goal of $2,000,000. The campaign wasn’t successful, but they did re-launch it with a lower goal and raised $680,000. The hotel isn’t built yet, but the idea hasn’t died. For updates, keep tabs on their latest Kickstarter page here .

#TravelOften

July Luggage Review 2024: Does it Live Up to The Hype?

Spoiler: I think I've finally found my new favorite hardside luggage brand.

july luggage review

We've been independently researching and testing products for over 120 years. If you buy through our links, we may earn a commission. Learn more about our review process.

What I thought of July Luggage

The bottom line: should you buy july luggage, why trust good housekeeping.

If you're anything like me, finding the right luggage is easier said than done, especially if you're looking for a stylish, non-basic option.

At the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab, we've tested over 100 suitcases in recent years t o find the best carry-on and checked luggage available both in our Lab and on hundreds of trips. As a textiles product reviews analyst, I've personally packed dozens of suitcases, assessed damage from our drop tester, evaluated scratch resistance and traveled with several of our top-tested luggage brands .

I recently took July's Classic Family Luggage Set (which includes a carry-on and two checked suitcases) on four international flights, traveling between three countries for multiple weeks. Several of our consumer testers also tried the brand's Carry-On Light , which the brand calls the lightest luggage you'll find, on a variety of domestic trips.

What is July luggage?

Named after the most popular month for traveling, July's suitcases were designed to bridge the gap between budget bags and luxury luggage, offering thoughtfully designed luggage at a more accessible price point. Since its start in 2018, the brand has expanded to three luggage collections (Classic, Light and Trunk) plus various bags , like weekenders and totes , and travel accessories .

July Carry On

Carry On

The Classic Carry-On is July's most popular product. It's made with polycarbonate, a popular material in hardside luggage , and each corner is capped with an anodized aluminum bumper for added protection.

July Carry-On Light

Carry-On Light

The Carry-On Light is another popular product, and the brand calls it, "the lightest double-wheel suitcase in the world" at 3.9 pounds. Hardside luggage is known for its lightweight nature, but as certain airlines lower their weight limits (even for carry-ons), every ounce counts. Still, it has a 32L capacity, making it less spacious compared to other popular options.

July Classic Family Luggage Set

Classic Family Luggage Set

On my most recent trips, I traveled with July's Classic Family Set , which includes the Classic Carry-On, Checked and Checked Plus . While some luggage sets may come at a discount, July's do not, but sets do ship with the suitcases nested inside each other to save space.

July's luggage has a simple yet sleek appearance. On the Classic line, the aluminum corners provide an added edge, elevating otherwise minimalist suitcases. In person, I immediately noticed how luxurious each suitcase felt: The exterior felt solid and substantial while the interior felt buttery smooth with a notable Y-strap over the standard compression panel. Note that the Carry-On Light instead features two zippered components with no compression panels.

The telescopic handle (pictured) stops at 20 different heights, meaning it will stop without falling down immediately, although it doesn't fully lock in until lifted to half its full height. It's also slightly slanted, for a more ergonomic hold. Some of our consumer testers appreciated this when wheeling it through our in-Lab obstacle course, but as someone with smaller hands, I found it a bit odd, although not uncomfortable.

The standard Carry-On also comes with a built-in power bank, which can be a nice perk, but I personally didn't use it while traveling due to the added bulk. When I tried it on its own, it charged quickly but noticeably warmed up. You can skip the power bank if you'd like by purchasing the Carry-On Essential , though it does not have the aluminum bumpers.

July also allows you to personalize your new suitcase for an added cost. This is great for easily spotting your checked luggage on a baggage carousel or in the event that your carry-on gets moved around or checked at the gate. I didn't personalize my luggage, as it delays the shipping, but I've always plastered colorful stickers on all my luggage to make sure it doesn't get confused. July's personalization, though, is definitely more intentional and long-lasting compared to my DIY endeavors.

Performance

I've tested many, many suitcases, but I've never used luggage that glided as smoothly as July's through an airport. Often, even when using pricey or top-tested luggage, I feel self-conscious, especially on moving walkways: The noises my other carry-ons have made in the past vary from slightly squeaky to loud, but this wasn't a problem with July. The wheels effortlessly accompanied me throughout several airports without any issues. During in-Lab testing, participants in our obstacle course agreed, giving July some of the highest scores for ease of use, particularly for its smooth, 360-degree wheels and adjustable handle.

In terms of packability, the Classic Carry-On, Checked and Check Plus were fairly standard compared to other hardside luggage, fitting our standard load with room to spare. Each included a thoughtful laundry bag for dirty clothes. The Carry-On Light, however, wasn't able to fit everything in our standard four-night packing load, so it's best for shorter trips.

When it comes to hardside luggage, polycarbonate is king, and all of July's suitcases are made of polycarbonate. It's an extremely durable material with excellent impact resistance, yet it's still lightweight, proving well-rounded when compared to other plastics or metals like aluminum.

It doesn't have the best scratch resistance, which we saw during testing, notably when we used a wire to scratch the surface of July's suitcases in the Lab. Still, when I assessed the Checked and Checked Plus suitcases (pictured), I didn't notice much wear and tear on the polycarbonate material (especially after wiping it down). The aluminum bumpers did show some damage though, with some visible scratches up close.

a checked suitcase after a long haul flight with some wear

In our drop tests, which involve packing a suitcase with a set weight before releasing it from a 3-foot height at various angles, July came away without any dents, damages or changes in appearance.

Warranty & Return Policy

July's luggage comes with a "lifetime warranty." But this doesn't necessarily mean you can purchase it once and use it forever. The brand says it will repair or replace products with manufacturing faults on the wheels, zips, handles and compression straps. Certain cracks and breakages to the polycarbonate shell are also covered, but cosmetic damage is not. Be sure to thoroughly document it if you suspect something's off with your luggage.

The brand also offers a 100-day return policy, but it's only for new, unused luggage in its original packaging. Personalized luggage is exempt, as it's considered bespoke, as are notably discounted items (i.e. Final Call and Weekender promotional purchases). There's also a $20 return fee.

If you're looking for minimalist hardside luggage with a bit of personality , I would recommend investing in any of the suitcases from the Classic line (the Carry-On, Checked and Checked Plus). I've tested many suitcases in my role at Good Housekeeping, and July might be my new favorite luggage brand. The maneuverability is unparalleled , thanks to its smooth wheels and adjustable handle, and the materials feel sleek and durable.

The suitcases faired well in our tests , earning high scores for their ease of use in our in-Lab obstacle course and durability during drop testing. Note that the polycarbonate material can scuff, but this was easily wiped away in my experience. The aluminum bumpers don't have the best scratch resistance, though.

When it comes to the Carry-On Light, my recommendation depends on the type of traveler you are. The suitcase is incredibly light, but it isn't quite as versatile due to its smaller size. If you go on lots of quick trips or if you'd rather use a rolling suitcase over a weekender bag or travel backpack , then the Carry-On Light is a great choice.

Still, the return policy, while fairly standard, isn't the most generous, and the lifetime warranty isn't a fix-all, so I encourage you to thoughtfully examine any July luggage you purchase.

Promising review: "This wallet is durable, chic, and spacious. The lining is very soft and feels expensive. From the design to the material to the zippers and snaps, it's well made. I ordered it in rose gold, and it's a beautiful color. I travel frequently and love the boarding pass pocket. I recommended it to my sister and mom, who also love theirs! They ordered in yellow and bronze and were also happy with the color." — Brianna graham

Get it from Amazon for $12.99+ (available in 31 colors).

5. A  set of packing cubes  you'll soon wonder how you ever traveled without. Your clothes will stay nicely folded (or rolled!) and you'll have more room in your suitcase. Expert packing level 🔓unlocked.

reviewer's clothes neatly organized in green packing cubes

Promising review: "I travel frequently and travel light. My luggage is usually limited to a backpack that slides under the airline seat. For a two-week European cruise, I added a carry-on rolling suitcase. I've used these packing cubes twice so far, and I am hooked. One cube holds everything (including clothing) I take on a three-night trip . The cube slides into my pack, saving massive amounts of room, and everything is easy to find during travel and at the hotel. Taking out one cube and unzipping is much better than digging through a pack! I will never leave home without these!" — Gura

Get a set of four from Amazon for $21.99 (available in 12 colors and as a set of eight).

6. Or some  vacuum storage bags  when you're a serial over-packer...or if you simply need to maximize luggage space. Place your items in the bag and suck out the air with the included travel pump. Who says you can't bring multiple outfit options on vacation?

A BuzzFeeder's bulky clothes in a sealed bag with text:

Former BuzzFeed Shopping writer  Jasmin Sandal says: "I swear by these bad boys not only for general storage purposes, but also if I know I'm going to be traveling for an extended period of time. As someone who tends to pack for every eventuality (who doesn't like to be prepared?!) I have learned that it's better to travel with them than without — especially since it's more or less a guarantee that my clothes are gonna take up a ~substantial~ amount of room in my suitcase. And if I can use something that's gonna shrink the size of my bulky hoodies and/or big tees in order for me to create more space, I'm sure as heck gonna do it. Plus, the satisfaction is indeed guaranteed because when you see those chunky layers flatten into a pancake...it's just *chef's kiss* ."

Promising review: "These are the best packing bags. We used them traveling across the country and... to save space in the suitcase! It's really easy to have the pump right inside the suitcase to flatten the bags when traveling for pleasure. I definitely recommend this for home or travel." — kit

7. A Kindle  for bookworms who keep up with their reading habit while on vacation. While packing a giant stack of *actual* books isn't exactly realistic, this compact and lightweight Kindle is a great alternative.

model outside using Kindle to read a book

It has a 300-ppi high-resolution display, an adjustable front light, and dark mode. The battery can last up to six weeks on a single charge and it offers 16 GB for storing thousands of books.

BuzzFeed Shopping editor Maitland Quitmeyer says: " I never thought I'd be an e-reader person, but living in a New York apartment with limited bookshelves changed my ways. I love love (love love love) my Kindle — especially for easily borrowing library books, squeezing in a few chapters on a subway ride, and of course traveling. I lit'rally read 10 times as much with a Kindle in my life."

Promising review: "I was so skeptical about switching from actual books to the Kindle but I have loved it!!! It’s so much more convenient to read and travels well. I’ve only had it like two weeks and have only charged it once (have read three books)!! Its battery life is amazing." — Haley

model wearing a gray trtl pillow while sleeping on a plane

The Trtl pillow is adjustable — you wrap the pillow around your neck and secure it with Velcro, and if you find it's too loose, just make it a bit tighter! I've truly never slept better on a plane than with this pillow.

Promising review : "WOW! Literally life changing; used it on my 11-hr flight to and from Norway to SF and I usually can never sleep on planes, but this did the trick! It’s also super packable and doesn’t take up too much space! " — Julie Cox

It's made of vegan leather and includes a 15" padded laptop sleeve, two additional pockets, an external zipped pocket, and a separate shoe compartment!

Promising review: "This garment bag is an exceptional value for the money. Well built, top quality materials, including 'beefy' zippers, should hold up well for airline travel. Minimal wrinkles if any in garments, and a cavernous bag for storing shoes and other items for a trip. Added bonus, it fits easily in the plane overhead storage , similar in size to a standard roller bag. I highly recommend this product." — Kindle Customer

10. An amazingly compact  travel stroller  if one of your major anxieties when packing revolves around your essential parenting items. This stroller is so dang portable *and* it can count as a carry-on item.

Reviewer's photo showing the folded stroller fitting the carryon size requirement for Southwest Airlines

The stroller is supposed to accommodate kids from 6 months up to 55 pounds (approx. 4 years old).

Promising review: "This stroller is great! So cool looking, too. I constantly have moms coming up to me asking where I got this! So easy to fold, so light, and barely takes any space in my trunk. We took it on a flight, and the flight attendants recognized the stroller and told me that I can just wheel the baby on and put the stroller in the overhead bin. I wish I had gotten this stroller with my oldest, but I was being cheap. This stroller is so worth the money. I regret not getting it sooner! But at least my youngest can enjoy it." — Nai Len

It also comes with two scoopers to use with the jars, a funnel for transferring liquids, a clear travel bag, a set of labels, and a cleaning brush.

Promising review : " This little set is perfect for your travel toiletries. Instead of paying $3 for those little travel bottles, you can fill your favorite products in these. The taller tubes are silicone and easy to fill. For the circular containers, I used the little scooper to fill them. I didn't use the spray bottles this trip, but I did use everything else, and I'm happy to say nothing leaked. Easy to clean after use as well. " — Nicole

12. Or a  waterproof toiletry bag  designed to hold tons of stuff — it has four compartments so you can pack all your travel-size items. There's also a handy hanging hook so you won't lose track of it!

the pink toiletry bag opened showing all compartments filled with items

Promising review: "I. Love. This. Bag. Seriously, I had a cheap toiletry bag from Target that essentially did the same thing, only way worse. It was too small; the hook didn't rotate so you could only hang it at an angle, if anything ever leaked; it would seep right through the bag, etc. But THIS bag has NONE of those issues! It fits everything I need and then some, meaning I don't have to skimp on my 10-step Korean skincare routine when I travel anymore. It never leaks. And I love that the hook swivels so you can hang it anywhere, and your stuff hangs perfectly. I also love the handle and the overall flatter shape. It makes it so easy to travel with! Cannot recommend this bag enough." — KaiEli

If you buy to-go coffee – whether you're jet-setting or just grabbing a mid-day pick-me-up — this cup is a must-have . So long as you remember to bring it, it's all the convenience of to-go coffee with none of the waste. It's leakproof and, when you're all done, it collapses down teeny tiny and can be tossed back in your bag. Oh! atomizer pumping on a perfume bottle

BuzzFeed Shopping editor Elizabeth Lily says: "^ That's me pumping my signature perfume into one of these travel atomizers I've been using for about a year. As the reviewer down below mentions, it's great to just throw in your purse on the reg for a fragrance re-up throughout the day. As you can see, it's about the size of my thumb and therefore takes up very little room. Plus! It's smaller than most rollerball travel fragrances you can pick up. This first one is working so well, that I just have the other three in storage. But if this one bites the dust this summer during travels, I'll be OK about digging into my stores to use one of the remaining three...especially at this price point."

Promising review:  "I bought these due to traveling a lot for work and needing to cut down on the size of things in my carry-on bag for flying. I can bring four different perfumes now instead of one big one. They’re super easy to fill and haven’t leaked so far, but I keep them in a sandwich baggie while traveling just in case. I would 100% buy them again." — Emily

I gotta say, I love the concept of the Pen Pal from Alleyoop ! After using all of the functions (eyeliner, highlighter, lip liner, eyebrow pencil) and as someone who LOVES makeup but was applying as little as humanly possible during lockdown, I think it’s a great tool for anyone looking to streamline their routine. It's ideal to use for touch-ups come the end of the work day, or a subtle, minimalist way to apply makeup in the a.m. The brow pencil is particularly soft and pigmented, and filled in my eyebrows quickly. I just adore the ease of application of each product, and appreciate the universal, does-it-all-for-you concept. Plus, it saves me so much room in my already overflowing makeup bag!"

About to order another set for my mother as we are taking her to London, Scotland, and Ireland for the holidays. We rarely use the middle size. The small size we carry on, and the largest size we check. Very pleased with maneuvering and durability of wheels on various rough surfaces. The retractable handle makes for easy storage on ferries and railway. We’ve had zero issues with locking mechanism. We are a family of four with kids ages 8 and 12." — ChiefLaughALot

Promising review: "We bought this to take with us when we visited our daughter who is studying abroad for four months. We figured she would not have enough room in her luggage when it was time to come home. Folded up, this bag was so compact and lightweight, it took up almost no room in our own luggage for the trip over. Then, sure enough, she had a ton of clothes and shoes to send home with us and packed this bag full. We checked the bag and it made it through two international flights without a scratch. The BEST feature is the side strap that allows you to slide it over the handle of a rolling suitcase so you don't have to carry it. This is probably the most practical and the best-value item I have purchased in years. " — Tosa Mom

Best Digital Products To Sell As A Travel Blogger

Best Digital Product Ideas [Episode Transcript]

I’ve said this in past episodes, but one of the best ways to grow your blog and have control over your travel blogging income is to create and sell your own products. It’s truly one of the top ways to monetize a travel blog .

Now, this does not need to be a scary or overwhelming process — especially when you opt for digital products, which are typically budget-friendly to create and don’t require you to worry about things like shipping, manufacturing, and production costs.

Because of this, digital products are infinitely scalable. You don’t have to worry about running out of materials or needing more time to make additional items; digital products can be sold millions of times without issue.

In fact, you can follow a product launch plan template to increase sales, too.

But, what are the best digital products to sell online as a travel blogger? Are there any that can help you reach the level of full-time blogger ?

That is exactly what we’ll be going over in this episode!

Now, let me start off by saying the list of digital product ideas we’ll be going over in this episode is in no way exhaustive.

There are truly a limitless number of products you can create, so use your imagination here and really consider what would benefit your audience and what products you’d enjoy creating that would feel authentically you.

Since you’ll be promoting your products and putting your name on them, you really want to make sure that they are things you’d be proud to be associated with.

If you’re wondering “ how long does it take to make money blogging? ” my answer to you would be a lot quicker once you create high-quality digital products.

Remember, too, that it’s helpful to learn how to create a gift guide for your blog so you can promote your products there as well as the products of affiliate partners. Having an affiliate marketing for travel bloggers is a great way to increase your passive income.

On that note, let’s dive into some ideas that will help you sell digital goods online as a travel blogger:

Digital Product Idea #1: Online Courses

Picture me standing on my chair right now jumping up and down with my hands in the air!

Deciding to sell online courses was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made as a travel blogger.

Think about it. You’re already teaching your audience about something through your blog. Why not package up your knowledge into a premium step-by-step course that further helps them?

Keep in mind, too, that your online course does not need to be business-related to make money.

In fact, I’ve seen travel bloggers make money with courses on topics like travel journaling, mastering Airbnb, language learning, smart packing, solo female travel , outfitting an RV, travel hacking, traveling full time with a family , and more!

Additionally, you can presell your online course to validate your course idea before creating the entire thing.

Personally, I’m a big fan of Teachable for creating online courses. Their software really has everything you need to be successful, plus their support is outstanding.

You can click my affiliate link in the show notes for a two-week free trial of their Pro Plan, too!

In my opinion, this is one of the best digital products to sell online.

Digital Product Idea #2: Paid Webinars

I have an entire episode on making money with webinars , which you can also watch in a video version here:

Now, while many webinars are free to attend and then pitch a paid offer at the end of the presentation, you can also charge a fee for hosting live webinars and workshops.

As with a paid course, you want to make sure that if you’re charging money for a training that you’re really making the benefit clear.

Ask yourself:

How will an attendee’s life be better after attending my webinar?

You might also consider having breakout groups and/or creating an experience that allows attendees to leave with something created or mapped out to make the session even more valuable.

And, if you have a paid course on a related topic, you might also consider pitching it at the end of the workshop, possibly with a special bonus or discount to make the offer even juicier.

By the way, my affiliate link scores you a 14-day free trial of WebinarJam , my favorite webinar software.

Digital Product Idea #3: Ebooks

Ebooks can come in many different forms.

Maybe it’s a story about your own personal journey, a collection of incredible travel photographs, a destination guide, a set of themed itineraries, or even an ebook that teaches a strategy like how to become a travel hacker or how to take better pictures while traveling.

If you’re not sure where to sell your ebook, you might use a platform like ConvertKit Commerce , which is free, or Sellfy , which is a robust alternative to Shopify.

Digital Product Idea #4: Printables

Printables are one of the easiest types of digital products to create, so if you’re wondering how to start a blog and make money right away, this could be a good option.

Really think about what printable assets like templates, workbooks, planners, and trackers can make your reader’s life easier or offer them a transformation.

For instance, if your audience is active on social media, maybe you create social media templates to help their travel content stand out.

Or, maybe you make a retreat workbook that allows them to create a DIY yoga retreat at home or a premium travel planner that makes the entire trip planning process super simple.

Possibly you’re an artistic person and can create travel-inspired postcards or coloring pages for kids or even adults.

Get creative and have fun with this!

Also, in my opinion, valuable printables make for great tripwire funnel offers!

Digital Product Idea #5: Lightroom Presets

Who doesn’t love to share beautiful travel photos?

Even if your readers aren’t trying to become full-time travel bloggers , providing them easy-to-use presets that instantly make their pictures pretty and print-worthy can be a profitable product for you.

Make sure to display before-and-after examples that showcase how your presets can transform a photograph on the sales page to really show people exactly why they should purchase.

Digital Product Idea #6: Apps

Creating an app that makes travel easier or more rewarding for your audience can also be smart.

Scrolling the app store, I see travel apps focused on all kinds of solutions — taking better photos and videos, meeting locals and other travelers, booking accommodation and experiences, exploring specific destinations, planning road trips, travel safety , traveling with pets, discovering the best hiking trails in a place, and more!

Digital Product Idea #7: Virtual Tours

Now for those interested in selling in-person tours through their blog, I do have a free How To Start A Tour Company cheat sheet .

However, right now we’re talking about digital products, so you might also think about how you can create virtual tours that transport your readers to a place or immerses them in an experience in a way that allows them to travel from home .

Additionally, you can offer your skills to brands, tourism boards, and businesses that could benefit from having you create virtual tours for them.

For instance, you might pitch a hotel brand to create a virtual tour of their property that helps them increase bookings.

Note that to really do this well you’ll want to invest in a 360-degree camera, a stable tripod, and virtual tour software.

Digital Product Idea #8: Apparel

Now, if you’re thinking, “wait, clothing isn’t a digital product,” hear me out.

Nowadays, there are loads of platforms that allow you to sell physical products while only needing to worry about the promotion.

For instance, Bonfire is a platform that lets you design t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other apparel to sell to your audience. They take care of the production and shipping, and you even keep 100% of the profits.

This is also a great idea if you want to use your blog to put good into the world , as you can do a charitable t-shirt campaign and donate the proceeds.

I own a Bonfire t-shirt and it is truly the softest tee that I own.

By the way, I mentioned Bonfire in my list of 13 clever ways to increase your travel blogging income .

Digital Product Idea #9: Audio Recordings & Digital Downloads

You can have a lot of fun with this digital product idea!

For instance, are you musically talented? Do you write about road trips often? Maybe you record an album of original music that makes for the perfect road trip soundtrack.

Or, maybe you help people overcome travel anxiety or practice self-care on the road. In this instance, perhaps you create a library of soothing meditations meant to be listened to while traveling.

You might also create an audio course or workshop based on your blog’s mission.

Digital Product Idea #10: Travel Photography

Are you a talented photographer? Then you might consider selling your photographs as art prints that people can hang on their walls.

If you’re not sure which prints to pick, try posting a few images on Instagram to see which gets the most engagement.

This is one of the top digital products to sell on Etsy !

Digital Product Idea #11: Stock Media

Maybe your audience is composed of travel creators.

You might then put together a library or even a monthly membership service where you provide high-quality travel images, video clips, and/or graphic design assets that they can use to create their content.

IvoryMix is an example of a blog that offers this. You can click here to get 550+ free stock photos, too!

Digital Product Idea #12: Games

Sure, travel board games are a lot of fun, though you might also consider what virtual games you can create that would be interesting to travelers.

You can then market your game as something fun to do on a long bus ride , a way to learn about other cultures, or just a fun way to travel at home .

While I personally haven’t ever created a virtual game, a quick Google search shows there are various platforms meant to help indie game creators bring their ideas to life.

Keep in mind, you can also create printable games, too, like a travel-inspired Bingo card meant to make road trips more fun.

Digital Product Idea #13: Memberships

While this digital product will require you to regularly create the membership content, it can be worth it thanks to the recurring revenue.

Keep in mind, memberships can take many different forms and can focus on a limitless number of topics.

For instance, you might create a membership that regularly shares workshops, recipes, live classes, assets like stock photography and videography, group calls, and more.

I actually have a membership community called Travel Blog Prosperity that helps travel bloggers turn their websites into profitable businesses. In terms of membership software, I use and love Teachable.

Remember that my affiliate link gets you 14 days of their Pro Plan for free!

Digital Product Idea #14: Premium Newsletter

This idea is similar to a newsletter, though the content type is straightforward.

With this type of newsletter, you want to make sure you’re providing truly premium content. One real-life example is Scott’s Cheap Flights , a flight deal newsletter that helps its members save up to 90% on travel.

Moreover, I have a VIP Opportunities Newsletter where I send out paying opportunities for travel bloggers each week.

Alright, now I hope you enjoyed this episode.

I hope you feel inspired and empowered to boost your blogging income by creating and selling digital products.

Travel Promotional Items: The Best Travel-Related Swag

From attending trade shows and conferences to planning “revenge vacations” including once-in-a-lifetime trips, more Americans are traveling again. This means that travel promotional items are a great buy for businesses seeking to boost brand awareness and loyalty among U.S. consumers in 2023.

Travel promotional items , ranging from inexpensive custom luggage tags to branded weekender bags, make great customer loyalty gifts for hotels, travel agencies, and other businesses in the hospitality industry. They are also frequently given away to business travelers at trade shows and conferences.

travel promotional items - RFID Blocking Wallets

When business and personal travel declined in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, travel promotional items took a backseat to health and safety promo products like hand sanitizer and face masks.

The pandemic’s impact on the hospitality and tourism industry worldwide was wide reaching unprecedented.  Naturally, promotional product sales to hospitality and tourism industry businesses declined in 2020 and 2021. While the hospitality and tourism market represented 6.1% of promotional product sales in 2019, by 2021 that percentage had changed to 4.3%.

Yet, despite inflation concerns, leisure travel made a comeback in 2022. Delayed trips and group bookings (including corporate team bonding retreats) drove the notable increase in stateside and international travel during the summer and fall of 2022.

Key Consumer & Business Travel Trends

When it comes to selecting the best travel-related promotional items for your brand, it’s important to take note of emerging travel and tourism trends.

travel promotional items - Packing Cube Set

Travel trends that will continue to grow in 2023 include sleep tourism; ecotourism and regenerative travel; and luxury travel experiences and accommodations like bucket list trips and extended stays at luxurious wellness and spa resorts.

While business travel may never return to pre-pandemic levels , mostly due to the widespread adoption of virtual meeting platforms and other cost-saving technologies, business travel bookings steadily increased in 2022 and should continue to climb over the next few years.

Nonetheless, many hospitality businesses are focusing on meeting the needs of leisure travelers right now. While OTAs like Airbnb and Vrbo continue to disrupt the hospitality industry, luxury hotels and resorts are poised to recapture market share as backlash against Airbnb grows online . In fact, international hotel brands like Hilton have already begun rolling out advertising campaigns that emphasize their reliability and safety .

On-Trend Travel Swag & Promotional Items

Useful and attractive promotional gifts are a highly effective form of advertising for hospitality brands who want to increase customer loyalty and retention in 2023. Consumers who purchase services from luxury brands while vacationing or traveling for business appreciate exceptional customer service including unique customer loyalty rewards.

travel promotional items - Road Trip Snack Box

Branded travel accessories like custom luggage tags , RFID blocking wallets , travel umbrellas , and travel tumblers are classic promotional items for hotels, resorts and other hospitality businesses. Vacationers also appreciate gifts that support wellness and relaxation like plush robes , spa kits , and yoga mats .

Other personalized travel gifts that help make guests feel pampered include useful, high-quality items like custom packing cube sets and custom bags such as weekender duffel bags and toiletry bags . Branded tech items that are ideal for frequent fliers and other travelers include custom power banks and wireless chargers as well as custom headphones and earbuds .

Trending travel promotional products include colorful fanny packs and backpacks from sustainable brands like Cotopaxi and custom travel gift sets like road trip snack boxes , sleep mask & earplug sets , and travel blanket & pillow sets .

The Best Way to Source & Distribute Travel Promotional Items

Online company stores are a novel way for travel and hospitality brands to grow brand loyalty while also generating additional revenue.

Many luxury hospitality brands – including Four Seasons and W Hotels – have begun selling premium branded merchandise to guests via online company stores. An online company store makes it easy to distribute incentives and freebies to loyal customers. A brand store can also serve as another revenue source for lifestyle and luxury travel brands.

Inspirato, a luxury travel subscription company, recently launched their own company merch store of branded apparel and travel accessories. To learn how Metron Branding built their brand store and set up a hassle-free order fulfillment workflow, check out our Inspirato Case Study .

I Used to Work in Beauty Retail, and These Are the 10 Best Products People Don't Know About at Amazon

Prices start at $4.

travel related products

Travel + Leisure / Tyler Roeland

If there’s one thing I know, it is how to curate the perfect makeup routine for travel. I spent the majority of my teenage years learning all about beauty from my makeup artist sister, and I honed my skills during my time working at Ulta Beauty . This experience allowed me to develop a real passion for makeup and skincare and apply that knowledge to my travel writing.

I’ve tried hundreds of items and over time have curated a toiletry bag stacked with travel-friendly products that help me look and feel my best no matter where I am. And with the sun out longer and the seasons changing, I thought I’d share my favorite beauty products you can find at Amazon right now. I carry all of these products in my travel makeup bag, including a do-it-all tinted SPF and my personal favorite dry shampoo . Prices start at just $4 for my picks, and you can trust that these products will help you create the ultimate makeup bag.

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream SPF 50

During the summer, I love streamlining my products as much as possible. That’s why I use this tinted SPF that acts as a sunscreen and wears as a glowy foundation. In fact, it works so well as a foundation that I’ve been surprised with its long-lasting, skin-blurring formula. It comes in 22 shades and has a medium-to-full coverage. Plus, it's easy to apply on the go, so give it a try ahead of your next vacation.

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Gel Moisturizer

This French pharmacy skincare brand is a favorite among Travel + Leisure editors for its vast line of high-quality hydrating and nourishing no-frills products. This water-based gel moisturizer is my personal go-to for the warmer months, as my skin is often oily this time of year, since this moisturizer leaves my skin hydrated without being weighed down. It’s also formulated with niacinamide and other skin-friendly ingredients that make your skin feel moisturized while fading dark spots over time.

Murad Multi-Vitamin Clear Coat SPF 50

You should never leave for a vacation without a high-quality sunscreen . If you’re on the hunt for an effective one this season, I recommend this do-it-all SPF from Murad that has a clear, gel-based texture (no white cast!) and is formulated with antioxidants like vitamins C, D, E, and F that actively work to prevent early signs of aging caused by sun damage.

The Rootist Clarify Dry Shampoo Powder

Dry shampoo is essential when I travel. I always find that my hair is oilier than usual, and the only thing that keeps my locks looking refreshed and voluminous is dry shampoo. I’ve been using this dry shampoo for the past week, and it has it all: It is designed with a non-drying alcohol-free formula, absorbs both sweat and oil, and has a convenient brush applicator.

CeraVe Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid are two of my favorite skincare ingredients that I use daily to keep my skin nourished and bright. And as much as I love an in-depth skincare routine, I look to products that can do double duty to save space when I travel. This vitamin C serum from CeraVe that’s also formulated with hyaluronic acid locks in extra moisture and smooths fine lines for a dewy, smooth complexion. And as a bonus, it's $11 off today.

Tula The Cult Classic Purifying Cleanser

Flight attendants and I love nearly every skincare product from Tula, including this travel-size face wash. Formulated with probiotics, prebiotics, turmeric, and other skin-friendly ingredients, this cleanser effectively pulls out dirt, makeup, sunscreen, and other pore-clogging agents to make my skin squeaky clean. Grab it on sale while it's just $12.

Honest Beauty 2-in-1 Creme Blush + Lip Color

I’ve been a fan of Honest Beauty for a long time, and I love this cream blush from the brand that doubles as a beautiful lip color. Apply it with your blush, finger tips, or a sponge to look glowy and perfectly flushed all day long. Available in seven shades, including coral-orange and light pink , this multi-purpose cream blush complements an array of skin tones.

e.l.f Power Grip Primer

My makeup artist sister has long maintained that a good primer keeps your makeup looking smooth and long-lasting. This particular e.l.f primer is beloved by over 18,000 shoppers thanks to its effective gel-based formula that grips makeup to your skin for all-day wear. Plus, its small size makes it easy to toss in a travel bag.

Neutrogena Stubborn Acne Pimple Patches

Something about travel always causes my skin to break out. To get rid of any unwanted blemishes, I’ve been loving these pimple patches from Neutrogena. These patches have a hydrocolloid base that works to pull out any blemishes and impurities from your pores to make their visibility smaller after just once use. Aside from their effectiveness, these patches are ultra thin and transparent, so I don’t mind throwing them on during the day when I feel a pimple coming to the surface.

Wet N Wild Mega Glo Bronzer Stick

I’ve tried plenty of bronzers — both powder and cream-based — yet always come back to this $4 one from Wet N Wild. I prefer it over more expensive, high-end bronzers because of its natural-looking, blendable formula that gives me a healthy, golden bronze wherever I go. This superstar stick also comes in three other shades to match your skin tone as well as a variety of blushes and highlighters to complete your look. Plus, I appreciate that it's vegan and cruelty-free.

Their three-day visit to the West African country kicks off tomorrow.

the duke and duchess of sussex visit south africa

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are visiting upon the invitation of Nigeria's Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, in relation to the Invictus Games , the international adaptive sport competition for wounded servicemen, women, and veterans, which Prince Harry founded in 2014.

At last year's Invictus Games , Team Nigeria competed for the first time. "We realised that 80% of our soldiers have been involved in this recovery programme, they are getting better. Their outlook to life is positive," Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, the Director of Spots at Nigeria's Defence Headquarters told Leadership , a Nigerian publication.

Here's their full itinerary of the three day visit, day-by-day:

Friday, May 10

In the morning, the royal couple will visit a school. ( Leadership reported it would be Wuse Light Academy, an institution supported by the Archewell Foundation.) Then, they will meet with the Chief of Defence Staff. In the afternoon, The Duke plans to visit with injured servicemembers at a military hospital.

Saturday, May 11

The schedule for Harry and Meghan's second day in Nigeria includes a training session for Nigeria: Unconquered (a Nigerian nonprofit that works closely with the Invictus Games Foundation) and a reception hosted by the Chief of Defense Staff in honor of military families. Per Marquis, there will also be an exhibition sitting volleyball match where the CDS will lead one team and Prince Harry will lead another.

In the afternoon, the Duchess of Sussex will co-host an event with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala , Director General of the World Trade Organization, about women in leadership.

Sunday, May 12

On their final day, Harry and Meghan will attend a basketball clinic with Giants of Africa , and they will also attend a polo fundraiser for Nigeria: Unconquered and a cultural reception.
