Student shares ordeal after falling victim to dangerous viral prank

HOMESTEAD, FLA. (WSVN) - School officials are warning against a popular prank that has been spreading on social media.

The prank leaves students injured including one South Florida teen that spoke with 7News.

The 16-year-old student, A.L., said she fell victim to the prank and has been left suffering from both physical and emotional pain.

Several videos are circulating around the internet showing students jumping and violently falling to the ground after being tripped by others.

It is called the jump trip challenge or the tripping jump challenge.

In the video, the teen in the middle is told to jump but has no idea what will follow. When they jump, the teens on either side sweep their legs, the jumping teen falls and everyone laughs.

Though it seems funny, students are partaking in the prank not realizing that a fall that hard can cause serious damage. A.L. said that’s what happened to her.

“I don’t even know if it’s describable, how much it hurts,” she said. “Not just physically but mentally.”

A.L. said she reluctantly agreed to participate.

“They were asking me in class constantly, ‘Can we please make this video for our project?’ she said. “They said, ‘Who can jump the highest?’ I was like, ‘OK, I’m going to do it. Whatever.'”

Grainy video footage showed how it happened in the halls of South Dade Senior High, Feb. 4.

“I jumped really high, and I remember them kicking me off my feet, and I fell on my head,” said A.L.

A.L.’s attorney is planning to take legal action against the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system claiming the district has not done anything to stop the dangerous pranks on campus.

“We intend on proceeding against the Miami-Dade County School Board for allowing these acts, which are trending on social media, to take place within our schools,” said Daniel Wagner.

M-DCPS Chief Communications Officer Daisy Gonzalez-Diego released a statement that read in part, “The behavior on this video demonstrates a lack of good judgement on the part of those involved and will not be tolerated by our district. Parents are urged to speak with their children about the responsible use of social media and to remind them that respect and empathy for others is far more important than any online trend.”

“I don’t even want to go to school,” said A.L. “I started a new school, and I feel like people are laughing at me.”

According to the district, three students were disciplined in this case, and the mother of the victim did not want to press charges at the time of the incident.

This webinar is a very helpful eye-opener on the apps that are popular with my students.

The Skullbreaker Challenge , also called the Trip Jump Challenge , is a dangerous social media prank that's landing some students around the world in the hospital. The videos, of teens tripping others, are made in an attempt to get more laughs and likes on TikTok , YouTube, and other social media platforms. But, the challenge can only happen at the expense of an unsuspecting person - some of whom are ending up with concussions, stitches, and broken bones.

What can parents and educators do?

  • Understand that many of the popular apps can't remove or censor all  dangerous prank videos. They go against Terms of Service agreements, but so many new videos are uploaded each day
  • Talk to students about social media challenges before they hear about them from their friends
  • Tell them about the real injuries some teens are getting
  • Explain the consequences they could face if they injure someone while doing this
  • Help students understand that fads like these come and go, and why it isn’t worth it to participate

Parents warn kids against YouTube 'killer Jump Trip Challenge' after two deaths

Mums and dads have taken to social media to warn kids about the Jump Trip Challenge or Skull-Breaker which has appeared on YouTube and TikTok

Parents are desperate to halt the spread of a dangerous new 'challenge' making its way through British schools - with two kids having already died.

Videos of the Jump Trip Challenge or Skull-Breaker show how unassuming victims are taking into jumping up before their feet are pulled away meaning they land on their heads and spines.

Sites like YouTube and TikTok are hosting clips of the dangerous stunt with British children now at risk after the trick proved fatal for two children abroad.

Mums and dads have taken to social media to warn kids about the challenge and one group of nurses in Berlin made their own video after treating victims.

In the videos two people ask a third if they can jump as high as them and when they try they make them crash land.

In the clip under the title Skull Breaker Challenge, the nurses showed the jump, but instead of then kicking away anyone’s legs they wag their fingers telling people not to do it.

Emanuela Medeiros, 16, is one of two youngsters to die in the challenge last November at the Antônio Fagundes Municipal School in Mossoró, Brazil.

One London teacher said: “Lots of children in Britain are now aware of this stunt - but some of them may try to trick potential victims who don’t know about it into doing it.

“A lot have now either seen it on social media or seen other kids already try it at their school and some of themwill be stupid enough to try and catch someone out.

“It means it’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured if potential victims aren’t made aware of it.

“It totally relies on the victim being unaware of it.

“If they know what is happening then they won’t fall for it, so the best option seems to be to quickly alert everyone.”

Medics said crashing down on to a floor could lead to anything from concussion, to fractures, an intracranial haemorrhage, permanent brain damage or even death.

The Daily Star found videos of suffering victims that had remained on YouTube, although a spokesman for TikTok said they had been removing them.

It appeared that although TikTok took clips down new ones are popping up.

A TikTok spokeswoman said: “The safety and well-being of our users is a top priority at TikTok.

“We do not allow content that encourages, promotes, or glorifies dangerous challenges that might lead to injury and will remove any such reported content.”

After TikTok issued the statement the Star found another clip on its app of a victim caught out, another of three young men telling others not to try it, and the nurses’ warning video.

However, the next day the one of the person tricked had been taken down, while the nurse one was left on.

In Florida, parents of one victim pressed charges against two Seabreeze High School students who performed the challenge on their daughter.

The tripping jump or skull breaker challenge has been going viral on TikTok, and it’s putting children’s lives in danger.

Take a look at what the tripping jump / skull breaker challenge is all about, and why it can injure the victim, and possibly cause permanent brain damage!

Tripping Jump / Skull Breaker Challenge Explained!

The tripping jump challenge appears to have originated in South America as the Skull Breaker Challenge on TikTok, so you may hear it referred to as Rompcráneos  or Rasteira in Spanish.

It quickly spread across the world, as kids and even adults try to record themselves pranking others with it!

The challenge is simple in concept, but takes two to play it and an innocent victim to make fun of .

Tripping Jump Challenge Danger : Warn Your Kids!

  • Trick the victim into thinking that the two of you want to record a slow-motion video of all three jumping.
  • Set up a camera to record the action, or have someone record it for you.
  • As the victim jumps, you both kick his / her legs, so the victim falls flat while you guys laugh.
  • Share the video on TikTok for likes!

Funny, right? Yeah, if you are an asshole… because this challenge is also known as the Skull Breaker Challenge!

Tripping Jump Challenge Danger!

Take a look at this video which showcases five different tripping jump challenge videos. Watch how ALL five victims hit the back of their heads , and at least two of them are knocked unconscious!

10-year old Journey Bonner of Berwick Alternative Elementary School in Columbus, Ohio, was one of the victims. She ended up with a swelling at the back of her head , after slamming it against the concrete floor of the school playground.

“What they did was mean, it was cruel and it was evil” – Journey Bonner

The video of two schoolboys performing the tripping jump challenge with another boy (seen in the picture below on the left) was filmed at the Santo Tomas de Aquino School in Caracas, Venezuela. The school is now investigating the video.

Tripping Jump head injury

The Austin ISD Police Department has even opened an investigation into a similar case involving a student at the Austin Independent School District, who sustained head injuries after being tricked into the tripping jump challenge at the school library.

In Florida, parents of a victim pressed charges against two Seabreeze High School students who performed the tripping jump challenge on their daughter (who was said to be a special needs student).

On February 8, 2020, Valerie Hodson of Arizona shared that her son was knocked unconscious with a head injury after two boys performed the tripping jump challenge on him.

Some perpetrators are even bullying students into becoming their victims, as a tripping jump challenge incident at the South Dade Senior High School on 4 February 2020 demonstrated :

According to the victim, two other students at the school asked her to jump as high as she could. One of the students jumped with her to see who could jump higher while the other stood off to the side.

“They kept asking me until I said yes,” the 16-year-old freshman said.

When the victim jumped, the two students swept her legs out from under her, causing her to fall backwards and hurt her neck and head.

“I jumped really high and I remember them kicking me off my feet and I fell on my head,” she said.

The two perpetrators including the student filming the challenge were disciplined, but the victim had to transfer to another school, and is currently being treated for her injuries.

And sadly, this challenge has claimed at least one life – a 16-year old Emanuela Medeiros  who hit her head on the floor, and died.

Skull Breaker / Tripping Jump : One Death So Far...

Unfortunately, her death did not stop Brazilian social media influencers, Irmãos Fuinha , from trying to popularise this stupid challenge.

They only apologised for doing this after they were severely criticised by Brazilian celebrities and medical professionals!

Even after TikTok finally  agreed to remove Tripping Jump / Skull Breaker videos on their platform, injuries from this TikTok challenge continued to come in…

13-year old Kathleen DeJesus was targeted at the Lawrence Massachusetts Middle School, and spent two days in the hospital for a severe concussion :

“I was screaming that I needed an ambulance,” said Kathleen. “I was thinking like ‘Oh my God I’m going to lose my life over this game.’ I should have never done it.”

Kathleen DeJesus

In Portland, Oregon, Olivia Ross blacked out and had a headache after hitting her head after she was tricked into the challenge :

“These seniors asked me if I would jump for their TikTok video. I remember like blacking out for a second and I started to get like an instant pressure headache,” Ross said.

Ke'Avion Hearn hospitalised

As recent as 25 February 2020, Ke’Avion Hearn – a cancer survivor – was tricked into performing the challenge, and knocked unconscious by his classmates :

“They said all you go to do is jump,” Ke’Avion recalled. He says he never knew what those classmates were about to do to him.

“I jumped, they kind of kicked me out under my legs so I can’t land,” he said. “All I remember is being on the floor.”

Tripping Jump / Skull Breaker Challenge :  Warn Your Kids!

Anyone who hits the head like that can suffer anything from a concussion to fractures, a intracranial haemorrhage, permanent brain damage… or even death!

This is why the tripping jump / skull breaker challenge is so dangerous, and children should be warned about it ASAP!

Tripping Jump loss consciousness

Make sure your friends and the children you know are are of the danger of this social media challenge / prank, because irresponsible social media influencers like Irmãos Fuinha  are popularising it to boost their fanbase.

Anyone who does this to you is NOT a friend. Dump these assholes! They are NOT your friends!

And if you see anything attempt this, please STOP them and report the incident to the authorities.

We should also do our best to pressure TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube into banning such videos!

Education Ministry Warns Against Dangerous Trip Jump Challenge

Posted by Chevon Campbell | 17 Feb, 2020

Education Ministry Warns Against Dangerous Trip Jump Challenge

The Ministry of Education is urging school administrators and the wider community to crack down on a dangerous prank called the Jump Trip Challenge or the Tripping Jump Challenge.

In a statement over the weekend, the Ministry notes that there are several videos being circulated on the Internet showing students jumping and falling violently to the ground after being tripped by other students.

In this Tripping Jump challenge, three students are placed in a horizontal line with the person in the middle apparently unaware of what will happen.

The persons on both ends give the impression that all three will be jumping but instead the two on either side use their feet to trip the middle student who innocently jumps, causing that person to fall hard to the ground.

The Ministry is cautioning school administrators against the popular prank and are advising them to take every precaution to put an end the practice.

It says the prank demonstrates a lack of good judgment on the part of those involved and should not be tolerated.

The Ministry of Education is warning that students are partaking in the prank not realizing that a fall of such nature can cause serious physical, mental and emotional damage with great legal and financial implications.

Fitness Quest: The 1,000-Skip Challenge

Torch calories and amp up your cardio with this monthlong jump rope master class..

Who doesn’t like jumping rope? At the very least it makes you feel like a kid again. Plus, it’s one of the fastest ways to burn calories, amp your metabolism, build endurance and train coordination.

No worries if you have two left feet: With this Fitness Quest you’ll work in shorter time increments that increase in duration as you move along.

Every fifth day you’ll have a Skip Goal to hit, where you see how many jumps you can do in a row. Obviously, your goal is to do them continuously, but if you trip up, just collect yourself, reset your rope and forge ahead. On your rest days, stretch and foam roll your calves and work on shoulder and wrist mobility.

The 30-Day Plan to 1,000 Skips

Badassery Badge: The revolutions indicated in the chart are for single-under skips, meaning the rope passes underneath you once each time you jump. To earn this Badassery Badge, up-level your jumping to double-unders — where the rope passes underneath you two twice each time you jump.

These are way more taxing so cut your work time and Skip Goal numbers in half or even just to a quarter of the prescribed work to accommodate for the intensity.

Editorial | Milk Crate Challenge is unsafe and stupid

Social media challenges have become routine. From the Blackout challenge to the Trip Jump Challenge and several others in between, these stunts have become the rage, and millions over the world are caught up in the frenzy. Some are harmless while others can be harmful.

Dominating social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter this week is the latest one called the Milk Crate Challenge, which involves stacking plastic milk crates to create a tower and then climbing and descending those wobbly ‘stairs’ without any support.

What is the point of this challenge? Besides testing one’s balance and coordination, it seems designed for entertainment value only, the kind of sick humour that provokes laughter at the expense of others who are suffering some kind of misfortune. Few persons will be able to complete the challenge flawlessly. The majority who attempt this stunt will take a tumble, to the amusement of onlookers who will use their phones to capture the act and then post it to social media.

And yes, Jamaicans have accepted this latest challenge, which, from all appearances, looks as dangerous as it is stupid.

One regional manufacturer, Carib Brewery, whose products are stacked in crates, has appealed to persons to be responsible, warning: “With everyone’s best interest in mind, we kindly encourage you to not engage in this challenge or attempt the use of crates or any such object to promote or participate in this current trend or similar activities. Already, it has led to serious bodily damage and can result in loss of life.”

Headlines Delivered to Your Inbox

Serious injury.

Local doctors and safety experts have also warned about the possibility of serious injury from a likely fall. Injuries could range from broken limbs to torn ligaments, to spinal damage, and ultimately, death. It is unclear whether anyone here has sustained serious injury, but it appears that challengers stand to gain nothing else but profound regrets.

Of course, with COVID-19 cases overwhelming the healthcare system, finding a hospital bed for a self-inflicted injury may not be easy for victims of the crate challenge. As an illustration of the concern being caused by this craze, a hospital in Baltimore, USA, sent out the following tweet earlier this week: “With COVID-19 hospitalisations rising around the country, please check with your local hospital to see if they have a bed available for you before attempting the #milkcratechallenge.” From all reports, Jamaica is already dealing with a serious case of overcrowding.

Coming so close on the heels of the Olympic Games, where the world was treated to some of the most enviable displays of athleticism, some people surmise that the Milk Crate Challenge was designed to give ordinary persons an opportunity to show off their skills and athletic abilities. Bu, as we have seen in some of the videos, this is a tough challenge, one so inherently dangerous that it has been nicknamed ‘Hood Olympics’.

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

Social media sites are always opening portals to new trends as they seek to pull in audiences, and they must take some responsibility for the effect of the content they put out. This particular challenge is believed to have started as a viral challenge on TikTok, and, after concerned voices were raised, TikTok had this to say: “TikTok prohibits content that promotes, normalizes, or glorifies dangerous acts, and we remove videos and redirect searches to our community guidelines to discourage such content. We encourage everyone to exercise caution in their behaviour whether online or offline.”

TikTok’s disabling the ability to search for ‘milk crate challenge’ and removing some of the videos of the challenge may not be enough to douse the fire lit by this risky activity.

While many social media challenges may be hilarious and harmless, parents need to recognise that this crate craze is not a trend to be encouraged. Parents also need to be aware that many dangers lurk on social media, and they should try to get ahead of these situations so that they can help gauge their children’s response.

Some of these social media trends fade. This could not happen too soon for the Milk Crate Challenge.

Crossrope Ropeless Jump Rope: The Ultimate No-Trip, Tech-Driven Workout Experience!

trip jump challenge

Tech-savvy, compact, personalized, efficient, revolutionary

In a world that constantly reshapes itself, fitness too undergoes its own revolution. Meet the Crossrope Ropeless Jump Rope—a quirky, but ingenious reinvention of the age-old exercise essential.

At its core, the idea is simple: it's jump roping without the actual rope. Gone are the days of those tangled up moments, tripping, or needing wide open spaces to get your workout done. This is particularly perfect for urban dwellers with limited space or those who desire the freedom to work out wherever they go—be it in tight quarters or in silence.

The Ropeless AMP Set, priced at $199, is your ticket to a fun, immersive experience. This isn’t just about removing the rope, it’s about bringing technology and fitness together. The Bluetooth-connected AMP handles promise precision. They not only count your jumps but guide you through a workout that adapts to your pace, strength, and endurance.

Speaking of workouts, the Crossrope offers over 2,000 personalized workouts. It’s like having a personal trainer in your pocket, guiding you through each jump, pushing you to meet targets, and providing real-time stats. Whether you're craving feedback on your average jumps per minute, power output, or achieving those sweet jump streaks, AMP’s got your back. There's a joy in setting and breaking your own records, and with modes like the Benchmark Mode, you can challenge yourself to constantly set new personal bests.

Perhaps you’re someone who just wants to jump and feel the rhythm? The Free Jump Mode provides you an unfiltered experience, letting you get lost in the movement while still offering all the stats you'd want. But if you're up for testing your limits, the Benchmark mode evaluates your speed, fitness, and skill, setting targets for you to surpass.

There are lighter Ropeless options for those aiming to improve cardio or burn fat. At $129, the Ropeless Get Lean Set is perfect for both tight spaces and ensuring a quiet workout. It's adaptable, working with the AMP tech and bringing the same rigorous training to the table. And for those looking for something heftier, the Ropeless Get Strong Set at $169 brings in heavier attachments to maximize calorie burn, muscle building, and cardio endurance.

Now, if you're keen on experiencing the full spectrum, the Ropeless Pack priced at $179 offers all weight options, ensuring a dynamic workout that keeps your body guessing.

In essence, Crossrope's Ropeless Jump Rope system is not just another fitness gadget; it's a reimagination of what at-home or on-the-go workouts can be. In my eyes, it’s an audacious blend of tradition and tech—a tool for those who want the soul of an old-school workout but with the brains of modern innovation. It's an invitation to challenge oneself and embrace fitness in a fresh, adaptable way. So, whether you're just stepping into the world of fitness or you're a seasoned pro, there’s something in this for everyone. It's more than just jumping; it's a dance of technology and human spirit.

Pros of the Crossrope Ropeless Jump Rope:

  • Space-Saving Design: Perfect for tight spaces, allowing for jump rope workouts without the need for ample room.
  • Tripping Eliminated: No actual rope means there's no tripping, making it beginner-friendly and reducing interruptions during workouts.
  • Advanced Technology: The Bluetooth-connected AMP handles offer high-precision jump counting, providing real-time feedback on performance metrics.
  • Personalization: With over 2,000 workouts, it offers a tailored fitness experience adapted to individual needs and goals.
  • Multiple Modes: From Free Jump Mode for pure jumping joy to Benchmark Mode for challenging oneself, there's a mode for every mood.
  • Versatile Weight Options: Provides a range of weights from the light Ropeless Get Lean Set to the heavier Ropeless Get Strong Set, catering to different fitness goals.
  • Silent Operation: Ideal for those who don’t want to disturb neighbors or family members, ensuring a quiet workout.
  • Portability: Easily packable and ideal for on-the-go workouts, whether at home, office, or traveling.
  • Durable and Tangle-Free: Without an actual rope, there's no risk of tangling, potentially increasing the product's lifespan.
  • Compatibility: The product is versatile, with Ropeless attachments compatible with various Crossrope handles, ensuring adaptability for users who have other Crossrope products.

Cons of the Crossrope Ropeless Jump Rope:

  • Price Point: With the Ropeless AMP Set priced at $199, it might be considered steep for some potential users.
  • Learning Curve: Traditional jump rope enthusiasts might need time to adjust to the feel and rhythm of a ropeless system.
  • Battery Dependency: Being tech-driven means it requires charging, which can interrupt workouts if not charged.
  • Monthly Membership Cost: While the product offers advanced features, accessing all of them comes with an additional monthly membership fee.
  • Lacks the Traditional Feel: Some might miss the tactile feedback and rhythm of an actual rope, which can be crucial for certain jump rope exercises or tricks.
  • Durability Concerns: With advanced tech components, there's potential for technical glitches or malfunctions over time.
  • Weight Limitations: While it offers different weights, there’s a cap to how heavy it can go, potentially limiting its appeal for those seeking extremely heavy rope workouts.

30 Day Fitness Challenge Ideas for Jump Rope Beginners.

by Nathan Olson | Dec 8, 2022 | Jump Rope Challenges: #ElevateChallenges , Jump Rope Health , Jump Rope Workouts , Jump rope Workouts | 0 comments

Jump roping is a simple yet effective way to get a full-body workout that can improve cardiovascular health, coordination, and muscle tone. Plus, it’s a fun and convenient exercise that can be done anywhere, at any time. If you’re new to jump roping, it can be intimidating to know where to start. That’s why we’ve put together these 30 day fitness challenge ideas for jump rope beginners.

You can make steady progress, build confidence, and stay motivated by setting a specific goal and committing to a daily jump rope routine. In this blog post, we’ll provide tips for choosing the right jump rope, suggest the best 30 day fitness challenge ideas, and stay motivated throughout the process.

We’ll also share various jump rope challenge ideas for beginner, intermediate, and advanced jumpers.

Key Takeaway:

Jump roping is a simple and effective way to get a full-body workout that can improve cardiovascular health, coordination, and muscle tone.

The 30 day fitness challenge ideas can help beginners, intermediate, and advanced jumpers stay motivated and progress by setting specific goals and committing to a daily jump rope routine. It’s important to choose the right jump rope for your needs and abilities, track your progress, and incorporate jump roping into your daily routine.

To stay motivated during the challenge, consider enlisting the help of a friend, setting rewards for reaching milestones, and focusing on the progress you’ve made. After completing the challenge, try to maintain your progress by incorporating jump roping into your fitness routine and setting new goals and challenges.

Choosing the right jump rope

Before starting your jump rope challenge, choosing a jump rope that suits your needs and abilities is important. Here are a few factors to consider:

The length of the jump rope should be appropriate for your height. To determine the right length, stand on the middle of the jump rope with your feet shoulder-width apart and the handles at your side. The handles should reach just above your armpits. If the jump rope is too long, you may trip over it while jumping; if it’s too short, it will be difficult to turn properly.

Jump ropes come in different weights; the right weight for you will depend on your preference and the type of workout you want. A heavier jump rope may provide a more challenging cardiovascular workout, but it may be more difficult to turn quickly. A lighter jump rope may be easier to turn and more suitable for tricks, but it may not offer as much as a cardiovascular workout.

Jump ropes are typically made of either leather, PVC, or beaded. Leather jump ropes are more durable and provide a smooth turning motion, but they may be more expensive. PVC jump ropes are more affordable and offer a good balance of durability and smoothness. Beaded jump ropes are typically more inexpensive, but they may not turn as smoothly and may not last as long.

Recommendations for jump ropes for beginners

If you’re just starting out with jump roping, we recommend choosing a jump rope that is lightweight and easy to turn. A PVC jump rope with a comfortable, padded handle is a good choice for beginners. You may also want to consider a jump rope with an adjustable length, so you can customize it to your height as you progress.

Setting up your 30 day fitness challenge ideas

Once you have your jump rope, it’s time to set up your 30-day challenge. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

Establish a realistic and achievable goal:

Your goal should be specific and measurable, and it should push you to improve, but it should also be attainable. For example, your goal might be to jump rope for 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week, or to increase the number of jumps you can do in a minute.

Track your progress:

Use a journal or a fitness app to record your daily jump rope workouts and track your progress. Seeing your progress over time can be a great motivator.

Incorporate jump roping into your daily routine:

To make the most of your 30 day fitness challenge ideas, try to make jump roping a part of your daily routine.

For example, you might jump rope first thing in the morning or as part of your warm-up before a workout. You can also mix up your jump rope routine by incorporating different jump styles or trying new tricks.

30 day fitness challenge ideas for jump rope beginners.

30 day jump rope challenge ideas

Here are some jump rope challenge ideas for beginners, intermediate jumpers, and advanced jumpers:

Beginner jump rope challenges:

If you’re new to jump roping , you may want to start with a simple challenge such as 30 days of jumping for 1 minute at a time. As you progress, you can increase the duration of your jump rope sessions or try to increase the number of jumps you can do in a minute. Another option is to try a jump rope workout that combines jumping with bodyweight exercises, such as squats, lunges, and push-ups.

Intermediate jump rope challenges:

If you’re already comfortable with jump roping and are looking for a new challenge, you might try 30 days of increasing the number of jumps you can do in a minute. You can also mix up your jump rope routine by trying out different jump styles, such as double unders or crossovers. Another option is to incorporate jump rope intervals into your workouts by alternating short bursts of jumping with rest periods.

Advanced jump rope challenges:

If you’re an experienced jumper looking to take your skills to the next level, you might try 30 days of completing a series of jump rope workouts incorporating different jump styles and bodyweight exercises. You could also challenge yourself to learn a new trick each week or to complete a set number of jumps in a certain amount of time.

Staying motivated during the challenge

Staying motivated during a 30-day jump rope challenge can be a challenge in itself. Here are a few tips to help you stay on track:

Enlist the help of a friend:

Having a workout buddy can help keep you accountable and provide support and encouragement. You can motivate each other to stick to your jump rope routine and celebrate your progress together.

Set rewards for reaching milestones:

As you progress through your challenge, set rewards for reaching specific milestones. For example, you might treat yourself to a new jump rope or a pair of athletic shoes once you’ve completed 10 days of your challenge.

Overcome challenges and setbacks:

No matter how well you plan, there will inevitably be days when you struggle to find the time or energy to jump rope. Don’t let setbacks discourage you. Instead, focus on the progress you’ve made so far and remind yourself of the benefits of jump roping.

If you need a break, take a day or two off, and then get back to your jump rope routine as soon as possible.

Wrapping up the challenge and maintaining progress:

After 30 days of jump roping, you’ll likely see significant improvements in your fitness level and coordination . Take some time to reflect on your progress and celebrate your achievements.

To maintain your progress, try to incorporate jump roping into your fitness routine on a regular basis. You can set new jump rope goals and challenges for yourself, or you can mix up your routine by trying out new jump styles or incorporating jump roping into your workouts in different ways.

Here is a table of jump rope challenge ideas for each day of the week:

Note: These suggestions can be modified to suit your fitness level and goals. It’s important to listen to your body and take breaks as needed.

Conclusion:

Jump roping is a simple yet effective way to get a full-body workout that can improve your cardiovascular health, coordination, and muscle tone. Setting a specific goal and committing to a daily jump rope routine can help you make steady progress, build confidence, and stay motivated.

We’ve provided tips for choosing the right jump rope, suggest the best 30 day fitness challenge ideas, and staying motivated. Take advantage of these tips to stay ahead of your fitness game.

Michigan student dies 'suddenly' on school trip to robotics competition in Texas

If you or someone you know may be struggling with suicidal thoughts, dial 988 to reach someone with  the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline . They're available 24 hours a day and provide services in multiple languages

A Michigan community is mourning after a student died suddenly while on a school trip to a robotics competition in Texas last week.

The student "suddenly passed away," Lake Orion High School confirmed with USA TODAY Tuesday, but did not identify the student. The school is located in Orion Township, about 40 miles north of Detroit.

"It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community," superintendent Ben Kirby said in a statement sent out to the student body on Friday, obtained by USA TODAY.

"Today, Friday, April 19, one of our current high school students suddenly passed away. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends," the statement continued.

Officials have not identified the student.

Student was attending Robotics World Championship

The school's principal, Dan Hass, informed parents that the student was attending the Robotics World Championship, according to reporting by the Oakland County Times .

“Our hearts are very heavy as we mourn this loss," Hass said, per the outlet. "We will be ready to meet the needs of our students and staff Monday morning.”

Kirby noted in the statement that Lake Orion High School and Lake Orion Community Schools have crisis teams that will be ready to "help with the needs of students and school personnel."

"We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to support our high school students through this tragedy," Kirby shared.

Authorities in Houston told USA TODAY a 16-year-old boy from Michigan died as a result of an apparent suicide Friday evening.

The teen's official cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Harris County Coroner Coroner's Office.

Lake Orion High School Robotics team responds to tragedy

"This has been an incredibly challenging time for our team and community, and we are grateful for the overwhelming support we’ve received," Lake Orion Robotics FIRST Team 302 shared in an Instagram post .

"We’re prioritizing the privacy of the family right now and will share more when it’s appropriate. Thank you all for your understanding and support."

Lake Orion High's robotics team was attending the FIRSTS robotics world championships in Houston, Texas that ran April 17 through April 20, according to the competition's website.

Support has poured in from other robotics teams across the country.

"Everyone on f(x) robotics sends their love and support to all @firstteam302 team members, their families, and the entire Lake Orion community as they get through this incredibly difficult time. #wearealldragons ," a North Carolina team wrote.

"4362 would like to extend our deepest condolences to all of the families, students, mentors, and coaches on @firstteam302 we our all here for you. #morethanrobots #wearealldragons ," wrote a Michigan team.

A West Virgina team said it is "grieved by the fact FIRST has lost a member of its community."

"This is a tragic time for everyone associated with team 302 and the FIRST community," an Idaho team shared.

In Pa., Biden’s challenge is highlighted by protests from both sides

Democrats are hopeful in the state, given recent wins. but on biden’s recent pennsylvania trip, he faced chants of ‘genocide joe’ and ‘you’re fired.’.

trip jump challenge

As President Biden visited his childhood home in Scranton, Pa., this past week, pro-Palestinian protesters gathered nearby chanting, “Genocide Joe has got to go!” That night, at his hotel, a group of similarly minded demonstrators banged drums, played loud music and used a loudspeaker until 12:15 a.m., yelling slogans including, “Wake up, sleepy Joe!” and “I am your nightmare, Biden!”

At a another site where Biden was speaking in Scranton, a very different group of demonstrators assembled, these backing Donald Trump . They held signs reading “Joe Biden: You’re Fired” and waved flags bearing the former president’s name. Asked by a local news host about the proliferation of pro-Trump signs across Pennsylvania, Biden bristled: “Well, you haven’t been driving in the right places, pal. … He has no presence here.”

At other times, Biden faced much friendlier terrain during his three - day swing through Pennsylvania, as large pro-Biden crowds materialized and supporters shouted, “Four more years” or “We love you, Joe.” One group held a sign reading “Scranton Loves Joe!”

The question for Biden, as he throws himself in earnest into winning a state that means an enormous amount to him personally and politically, is how all these roiling sentiments will play out in November, in Pennsylvania and across the country. In many ways, Pennsylvania is a microcosm of the United States — a Democratic operative once famously described it as two metropolitan areas with Alabama in between — and strategists will be paying close attention to the state’s Democratic and Republican primaries Tuesday for clues on which party has momentum.

“Look, you’re my ticket to the White House: you, Pennsylvania,” Biden told a group of campaign workers in Philadelphia on Thursday. “No, it’s not hyperbole. You’re the ticket to the White House.”

Polls show the race essentially tied between Biden and Trump, and both campaigns expect the state — which went for Trump by 0.72 percent in 2016 before swinging to Biden by 1.17 percent in 2020 — to come down to the wire in 2024.

In a recent memo on Pennsylvania, Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez stressed that Democrats have won statewide races there in 2018, 2020 and 2022, as voters turned sharply against Trump’ policies from abortion to election denialism.

But Biden’s visit highlighted his challenge as an incumbent at a time when many voters are worried about the economy and the country’s direction, while others oppose his position on Gaza, and the nation overall is deeply polarized. Speaking to supporters in Scranton on Tuesday, Biden mused about the level of animus he has faced around the country.

“I’ve never thought I’d see a time when I’m going through a neighborhood, or a rural town that’s in the West, and see big signs that have a Trump sign in the middle that says ‘F Biden,’ and having a little kid standing with his middle finger — 7 years old, 8 years old,” Biden said. “Well, I promise, it happens all the time. It’s not who we are.”

David Urban, a Republican strategist who led Trump’s successful effort to flip Pennsylvania in 2016, said his travels through the state have convinced him that Biden is struggling with its residents, many of whom blame him for the high cost of living and for policies they see as hostile to the local energy industry.

“The current president is pushing a big rock up a hill, trying to convince people things aren’t as bad as they are,” Urban said.

This past week, Biden was pushing hard.

He unleashed a populist speech in Scranton. He embraced unions while addressing steelworkers in Pittsburgh. He made stops at Sheetz and Wawa, a nod to the hometown convenience stores whose respective merits are hotly debated, as well as to the kind of retail politicking aides say will be pivotal to helping the 81-year-old president connect with skeptical voters.

And Biden ended his trip Thursday by visiting a majority-Black neighborhood in Philadelphia, where he accepted an endorsement from family members of his most prominent third-party rival, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

As Biden’s birthplace and the largest battleground state — home to a crucial 19 electoral college votes — Pennsylvania looms large in the president’s personal and political backstory. It’s a state both Democrats and Republicans view as crucial to victory, and it stands as a key test of whether everyday Americans believe his performance as president warrants another term.

That’s a big part of the reason Biden has spent so much time in Pennsylvania, which has the added benefit of being close to both Washington and his home state of Delaware.

Like Biden, who has already traveled to the state a handful of times this year, Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, has also prioritized Pennsylvania. His aides and allies see it as a central pillar in their push to knock down Democrats’ venerated “blue wall” of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania — as Trump did in 2016 but not in 2020.

With a population of about 13 million consisting of large urban centers, fast-changing suburbs, millions of blue-collar workers and vast rural stretches, Pennsylvania reflects many of the trends upending the nation’s political landscape. Since 1960, no Democrat has won the presidency without carrying the state.

At a recent rally ahead of his criminal trial in New York, Trump told a large crowd in Schnecksville, Pa., that Biden is responsible for high inflation, global instability and a general malaise hanging over the country.

“All of America knows that the real blame for this nightmare lies with one person: Crooked Joe Biden,” Trump said. “That’s why the people of Pennsylvania are going to tell Crooked Joe, ‘You’re fired. Get out. You’re fired.’”

Biden’s swing through the state offered a glimpse at how he will respond to such attacks, as aides noted that he made a point of addressing several constituencies that helped propel him to the White House in 2020.

On Tuesday, the president visited his childhood home after giving a speech contrasting his view on taxes with that of Trump, saying he represents the scrappy values of Scranton while Trump reflects the money-focused morals of Mar-a-Lago in Florida. His pitch to the United Steelworkers union Wednesday featured a populist pledge to protect American industry from unfair foreign competition, including by tripling tariffs on Chinese-made steel if necessary. He also took a jab at Trump, joking that the former president — who was in New York facing a court trial — was “busy right now.”

His speech at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center in Philadelphia on Thursday targeted the city’s large population of Black voters. John White Jr., a former state representative and civil rights leader, introduced Biden by praising his record of boosting “Black livelihoods,” and the president was accompanied around town by Mayor Cherelle Parker (D).

Throughout the trip, Biden played up his personal connection to the state, where first lady Jill Biden grew up — she often mentions her attachment to Philadelphia sports teams — and where the Bidens had their first date. He talked about launching his 2020 campaign in Pittsburgh and turning to Philadelphians to bolster his Senate campaigns over the years. He said he had been dubbed Pennsylvania’s “third senator” because of how often he was on the news in Philadelphia, which shares a media market with his hometown of Wilmington.

At the same time, the Biden campaign unleashed a blitz of advertising targeting key groups in the state, including Black residents and Hispanic voters from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, as well as a ramped-up ground operation aimed in part at holding down Trump’s margins in rural and exurban parts of the state. The Trump campaign’s on-the-ground presence is more limited than Biden’s effort, which now includes more than a dozen offices and a mix of paid staff and volunteers.

That advantage in fundraising and campaign infrastructure will pay dividends for Biden down the road, said Brendan McPhillips, a senior campaign adviser who managed Biden’s 2020 race in Pennsylvania and the successful campaign of Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) in 2022.

“The gap is huge between what the president’s campaign has been doing and is doing right now, versus Trump, who has come into the state once or twice for very brief visits,” McPhillips said, adding that the Biden campaign plans to open another dozen Pennsylvania offices, including in some Trump-friendly areas, in the coming months.

But for Trump’s allies, the negative emotions sparked by Biden during his visit suggest he will struggle to hit his marks in the parts of the state where he needs a strong turnout to overcome Republicans’ dominance in rural counties.

“This ’24 race feels way more like ’16 than ’20,” Urban said. “The antipathy toward Biden — I won’t say it’s the same as it was toward Clinton, but it’s definitely present. The chants of ‘FJB’ are louder than they’ve ever been.”

Like Hillary Clinton, Biden has faced public blowback from progressive voters. His support for Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, in particular, has cost him support from key voting groups, including many young people, Arab Americans and some Black voters.

In Pennsylvania, organizers are aiming to persuade some 40,000 voters to write in “uncommitted” rather than voting for Biden during Tuesday’s primary. Given Pennsylvania’s tight margins, even a small number of defections in November could tip the race.

Biden’s team hopes the state’s voters are listening more to other voices, like those of the Kennedy family members who gathered to support him in Philadelphia on Thursday.

“We want to make crystal clear our feeling that the best way forward for America is to reelect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for four more years,” Kerry Kennedy, daughter of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy (D-N.Y.), said at that event. “President Biden has been a champion for all the rights and freedoms that my father and uncle stood for.”
