We booked with Vintage Tea Trips during our vacation to Ireland. The sandwiches and desserts tasted good, but I was expecting there to be a little more food than there was. I had the Cadbury hot chocolate, and it was absolutely scalding hot even after giving it time to cool down, so my mouth was burnt afterwards which was a little frustrating. The music was fun and the bus itself was cute, and the staff was friendly. I appreciated the bits of information they provided about Dublin as we drove around, but I did expect more of a "tour", when we mostly chatted amongst ourselves as we drove through the city.

We heard a lot of buzz about this tour and it was absolutely worth it! The bus was super cute inside, the sandwiches and treats were delicious, and the tea was great. Adam was a fun and helpful guide (shoutout to Liam for driving). You even get to take a reusable cup home! Definitely give this a try when you're in Dublin.

I was really looking forward to this. As a huge fan of afternoon tea and of traveling and tours this seemed like the perfect thing to take my daughter on to kick off her first trip to the UK. For sure I was not expecting the food and drinks situation to be excellent because its on a bus! I'd say it was above average as far as food quality. However, the clotted cream container contained cream that was curdled. ok, no biggie, we have five upcoming afternoon tees booked in London so I figured this wasn't a dealbreaker. Then when they brought the cups, they were dirty which was disappointing. Also, it was a warm day and we paid for the VIP seats in the front and there was heat blowing on our legs. Then, the very friendly guide announced that he wasn't going to guide us too much, but rather let people talk and chat with each other. So here was another thing that was a letdown because I really wanted to learn about the history of Dublin. I'm not saying it's not worth the experience, but it just wasn't the highlight I had expected. The bus is very cute, and it's a great concept so just go in with your eyes open.

Went on a tour for US Mother's Day and had an absolutely splendid time! Tour guide Daniel was a treasure, very informative and witty. The tour was the perfect mix of history along with downtime to talk with our buddies, which I appreciated as it wasn't an information overload. They go in a circle, so if you miss something or are on the wrong side of the bus, you'll get another chance to see it! Our servers Lettie and Leila were super helpful and came around multiple times to check in. The drinks are bottomless (minus the sparkling "wine") and we got to keep the cups as a free souvenir! Liam drove us and was very impressive at handling the double-decker. The food is fantastic, lots of different flavor profiles and they were very accommodating for dietary restrictions. Tables are first come, first served *by reservation date* but are already assigned at arrival, so you don't have to worry too much to be there early. I will say the earlier appointments were seated on the top level and the stairs are a bit steep and narrow, so you may want to consider that if stairs are an issue for you. It was seriously the best 90 minutes I could ask for, thank you to the team for making it happen!

Vintage Tea Tours 1960s Double-Decker

Destination Tea Notes:   Inspired by afternoon tea bus tours in England, Vintage Tea Tours has brought this great concept to Dublin, Ireland. Especially for newcomers to the city (not yet accustomed to driving on the left), this would be an excellent activity for your first day, because it’s a festive and relaxing way to familiarize yourself with Dublin and its main sights. Adults and children alike are enthralled upon entering the 1960’s double-decker bus, smiling at the pretty bunting over our heads as we slip into our green tufted leather seats. Tea trays are at the ready, 1950’s jazz begins to play, our drink orders are taken, and we are on our way. How does one serve afternoon tea while rambling through this bustling city? You’ll soon see!

For something different: a delightful Dublin vintage tea tour

by Anne Betts | Jan 7, 2024 | Ireland | 0 comments

dublin-vintage-tea-tour

Tea and travel are a compatible combination. Adding a vintage double-decker bus and a ride through the streets of Dublin suggest a unique experience. A Dublin vintage tea tour  was one of my top things to do on a visit to the Irish capital.

Things to do in Dublin

The usual sights of Dublin made it to our list. The Kilmainham Gaol , the free Sandemans Dublin Walking Tour, Guinness Storehouse, EPIC Emigration Museum, Famine Memorial on Custom House Quay, Temple Bar District, Irish Whiskey Museum Tour, Trinity College, a traditional Irish meal at Darkey Kelly’s with live music, Christ Church Cathedral, Molly Malone statue, day trips from Dublin by train … yet there was something about a Vintage Tea Tour that captured my interest.

A Vintage Tea Tour felt different. It was a way to merge two of my favourite travel experiences — vintage public transport and a food tour — on a leisurely ride around the streets of Dublin.

vintage-tea-tour-bus-dublin

Vintage public transport feels nostalgic. It takes us back to an earlier era of conductors, paper tickets, and open platforms. The 1961 Routemaster bus reminded me of the earlier versions of the red double-decker buses that dominated the streets of London when I lived there in the early 1970s.

Taking the plunge

I was visiting Dublin with three women friends. One was willing to indulge my enthusiasm for the tea tour. The others had more pressing interests.

Janet and I signed up for the tour.

A Dublin vintage tea tour

Passengers boarded through the platform at the back, and we were ushered to the top deck. Awaiting us was an array of treats promising a delectable experience.

table-for-two-vintage-tea-tour-dublin

Presiding over our two-person setting was a two-tiered tray containing a sumptuous arrangement of dainty crustless finger sandwiches, pastries, scones, jam, and clotted cream. A non-slip doily kept the table setting in place.

pastries-vintage-tea-tour-dublin

Our host, Megan, took our drink orders. One member on the tour chose, heaven forbid, COFFEE and was met with an appropriately delivered playful admonishment. Drinks were served in souvenir screw-top insulated cups, kept secure in circular wells set into each table.

Next came a lesson in scone etiquette. Megan explained how to correctly add layers of butter, strawberry jam, and clotted cream.

lesson-scone-etiquette-vintage-tea-tour-dublin

Thankfully, we weren’t graded on the results of the lesson. I gave the scones top marks for taste.

prepared-scones-vintage-tea-tour-dublin

With 1950s jazz music playing in the background, Megan shared information on the sights and Dublin’s intriguing history. The informative commentary was interspersed with delightful Irish humour that added to the joyful ambience of the occasion.

Our non-stop vintage tea tour lasted about 90 minutes, starting from the EPIC Emigration Museum. We passed sights that included St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Christchurch Cathedral, Trinity College, St. Stephen’s Green, Wood Quay, O’Connell Street, Phoenix Park, and the grand buildings of Georgian Dublin.

streets-of-dublin-vintage-tea-tour

Good to know

On our tour, all passengers were seated on the upper deck. VIP Top Deck Seats are the front four seats. Adult seats are the remaining seats on both the upper and lower decks. Seats are sold on a first-booked, first-served basis, starting on the upper deck.

Currently, the tour begins in Temple Bar. It includes the Guinness Storehouse, Phoenix Park, O’Connell Street, Georgian Dublin, and Christchurch Cathedral. However, traffic, road works, and road closures are monitored and may affect the route.

The verdict?

I loved it.The tour was a different way to experience the city and it became one of my top things to do in Dublin. The commentary was engaging and entertaining while enjoying the delights of a traditional afternoon tea.

Our Afternoon Tea Menu

a woman sitting at a table with a plate of food

We are delighted to announce that we have been recognised by the Georgina Campbell Guide for Independent Food & Drink and also by Good Food Ireland . To be associated and recognised by such pillars of the Irish food and drink community is an honour.

logo

During Covid we took the time to enhance and improve our Afternoon Tea Menu. To be recognised by Georgina Campbell’s Guide and Good Food Ireland was the icing on the cake (pun, very much, intended).

We began making our sandwiches in house by our talented team of kitchen staff. The offering went from three traditional finger sandwiches to now both the traditional sandwiches that people love but also includes soft brioche buns with the freshest most delicious fillings. We also changed the shape from finger sandwiches to triangle because, lets face it, triangle sandwiches not only taste better but definitely feel more Irish.

a person sitting at a table with a plate of food

Our fruit scones are served warm on board (yes, you read that right – warm scones) and let me tell you the smell that wafts around the bus while they’re are warming up is almost as good as their taste! These are of course served with the ultimate trifecta – Irish butter (best in the world), jam and of course clotted cream. The way in which you have your scone… totally up to you! There is no right or wrong way with our afternoon tea!

a woman cutting a cake

Our desserts are made fresh and delivered to us by Robert Bullock and his incredible team at Le Patissier . These delectable desserts range from a berry and pistachio opera cake to a smooth and crunchy praline pillow to my personal favourite – lemon and raspberry tart!

We of course serve Irish Barry’s tea on board and have a wide range of herbal teas and coffees to choose from too. If you’re looking to indulge in Afternoon Tea the Irish Way – hop on board and take a bite. You won’t be disappointed…

Tina Knowles Models 'Vintage' Destiny's Child's Tour Shirt She Swiped from Daughter Beyoncé's Closet

Knowles shared a photo of her posing in some merch from the group’s 2005 Destiny Fulfilled… and Lovin’ It tour

Beyoncé ’s fashion archives have got the one thing Tina Knowles wants — Destiny's Child merchandise.

The Grammy winner most likely has tons of bespoke designer pieces in her wardrobe, but her mom only has eyes for her early aughts band tees.

In an Instagram post shared on April 23, Knowles, 70, confessed that she had snagged a “vintage” Destiny’s Child shirt from her daughter’s closet for a day at the Cécred offices.

The T-shirt features a photo of Beyoncé, Michelle Williams  and Kelly Rowland , as well as their signatures. It looks the memorabilia is from the R&B trio’s Destiny Fulfilled… and Lovin’ It world tour, which marked their last before the group disbanded in 2006.

Knowles paired it with a long-sleeve shirt underneath, dark-wash jeans and black boots.

“Stole this vintage T-shirt from @beyonce ,” Knowles wrote in the caption. “I gave it back though!”

Fans had lots of compliments to throw around in the comment section, with one writing, “Keep it Mama, it looks great on you.” Another fan couldn’t wrap their head around shopping in the Beyoncé’s closet. “Imagine stealing from Beyonce and it being allowed,” someone joked.

With Knowles teasing the “very Cécred day” she had in the same post, it also has us wondering what Beyoncé’s haircare brand is up to.

The company, of which Knowles is vice chairwoman, launched in February , but it has already been a huge hit within the Beyhive (and beyond).

Cécred debuted with the Foundation collection , an assortment of eight products — shampoo, scalp scrub, mask, conditioner, oil and treatments included — that cleanse, condition and strengthen hair of all textures and types.

When creating her much-awaited haircare line, Beyoncé was inspired by hair rituals from around the world and, of course, her mom, who formerly ran Headliners salon in Houston.

“So much of the fabric of who I am came from her salon,” Beyoncé told Essence . “That’s my foundation—and I think as an artist, so much of my bold experimentation with hair comes from being inspired by art and sculptures; getting creative with braids; figuring out new techniques; and exploring ways to maintain hair growth with protective styles and wigs, while still feeling fabulous. It all stems from my experiences growing up in my mother’s salon.”
