Why I Recommend The TRX Suspension Trainer To Anyone Who Travels

Almost a year ago, I left home to travel. Completely obsessed with fitness, I came up with a plan that would enable to me continue building muscle and burning fat using bodyweight exercises.

The plan worked extremely well, and after months of using nothing but my bodyweight to train, I was in pretty good shape. I found, however, that to continually challenge myself and progress to harder variations of basic exercises I needed certain pieces of equipment. I was at a stage where I had to go out and find a park to do chin-ups, or balance myself against a pole to practice pistol squats.

It was then that I wished I had taken my TRX Suspension Trainer with me. I could have spent more time exploring temples and trying amazing food, and less time trying to find parks or gyms where I could workout.

Designed and created by a US Navy SEAL commando, the TRX is a completely unique piece of equipment that makes it easy to have continually challenging workouts anywhere. It is a lightweight, yet incredibly strong, set of adjustable straps and handles that can be anchored to almost anything, and uses nothing but your own body weight and gravity as resistance. It packs down into a small mesh bag, which makes it perfect for people who travel.

Best of all, it costs less than a few month’s gym membership.  You can pick one up from Amazon for $179, which is cheaper than the official online store.

Build Muscle Just As You Would In The Gym

trx suspension trainer review

The best thing about the TRX is that it makes it so easy to apply the all-important principle of progressive overload to bodyweight exercises.   Just as you would gradually increase the weight or number of reps you are doing in the gym, you need to gradually increase the difficulty of bodyweight exercises to continue building muscle and burning fat.

Put simply, you will not be able to continually make progress whilst travelling if you do not apply the principle of progressive overload.

With your bodyweight alone it can be difficult to increase the difficulty of certain exercises. A great example of this is the bodyweight squat (or air squat as it sometimes called). It is one of the most effective exercises you can possibly do, but unless you are severely out of shape it quickly becomes easy. Performing countless reps will not build muscle. To build muscle you need to find a way to make the exercise challenging.

Performing a one-legged squat ( pistol squat ) is the natural progression and makes the exercise twice as difficult.  The only problem is that pistol squats are insanely difficult because they require a great deal of balance, and it is the same as doubling the weight in the gym (as opposed to progressing in gradual increments).

The TRX makes it easy to learn how to do a pistol squat. Using the straps as support, you can make it easier to balance and transfer some of the weight from your leg to the anchor point. The video below demonstrates this nicely.

The pistol squat isn’t the only exercise the TRX is good for.

There’s a seemingly never-ending list of exercises, but I think it’s particularly useful for training your back and biceps.

Think about it. The most effective ways of training your back are rows and pull/chin-ups. Those exercises also hit your biceps, as do curls. But you can’t do any of those exercises without equipment. At the very least you need a table to do rows, a bar to do chin/pull-ups, and something substantial to curl (perhaps a suitcase or backpack).

Using the TRX you can do both rows and bicep curls, and make them progressively more difficult by altering the angle at which you stand. To put that into perspective, doing a TRX row with your feet against the wall means that you are rowing the equivalent of your bodyweight. That’s pretty tough.

The TRX is the most effective way of training your entire body whilst travelling. There’s no better alternative.

Burn Fat With Circuit Training

TRX Suspension trainer review

The beauty of the TRX is that it makes it easy to transition fluidly from exercise to exercise and improve strength, endurance, balance, coordination, your core and flexibility using one piece of equipment.

Circuit training involves performing a number of strength exercises one after another, and then repeating the sequence 2-6 times (depending on how fit you are). Each exercise involves a lot of different muscles, which means that as well as burning fat it’s also going to help you build muscle.

Circuit training in a gym is almost impossible. You need to use lots of pieces of equipment at once. It’s almost inevitable that somebody else is going to want a piece of equipment that you’re using and jump in when you’re back is turned.

The TRX solves that problem by enabling you to use one piece of equipment for all of your exercises, and of course you don’t even need to go to the gym to use it. I’ve put together a circuit specifically designed to help you burn fat and build muscle anywhere. It hits all the major muscle groups and will give your core one hell of a workout.

The circuit should be performed 2-4 times. To burn fat it’s important to keep rest periods short and the intensity high. Rest for 2 minutes between circuits and the prescribed amount of time between exercises.

Features and Specifications

trx suspension trainer review

A year ago I would have recommended the Force or Pro models .  They were the only models that came with everything you need, but today TRX have changed that. All models come with the following:

  • A mesh bag.  The TRX packs down to about half the size of a football (or soccer ball depending on where you are from) and will easily fit in your luggage.
  • A lightweight and durable build.  Weighing only 1.4lbs or 0.6kg, it is extremely durable and has a weight limit of up to 1400lbs (600kg). Most airlines allow you to take up to 20kg on the plane, so unless you’ve massively over-packed it shouldn’t be problem.
  • A door anchor. Put the anchor over the top of a door and then close it to get a perfect anchor point for your TRX. This means you can train in your house or hotel room.
  • A suspension anchor. The suspension anchor enables you to anchor your TRX to pretty much anything. This could be a tree, a fence or monkey bars. The guys in the army use the barrels of their tanks!
  • Padded foot cradles and handles. I found that using makeshift pieces of equipment on the road, such as a 5 litre bottle of water to do rows with, could be pretty uncomfortable. The padded handles and foot cradles mean you don’t have to inflict any more discomfort upon yourself than necessary!
  • Workout plans. All models come with some sort of workout plan and exercise guide. You can put together your own workouts based on your goals, but if you’re not sure what you’re doing I’ll be posting TRX workout plans in the near future. Sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of this post and I’ll let you know when they’re ready.

I recommend you buy the Home model. It is the cheapest of the three, and comes with everything you need. If you feel like your TRX is going to get a lot of heavy use (more than once a day) then you should consider the Pro or Force models as they are built for more wear and tear.

I Think The TRX Is Awesome, But Don’t Just Take My Word For It…

The TRX is used by the military, pro-athletes and top trainers everywhere. Here’s what they have to say about it:

“On the road, I use the TRX Suspension Trainer. You can use it anywhere, strap it to a pole or behind the door. It works every part of your body and helps you improve balance, speed, agility, core strength, shoulder and leg strength and power. I train with it every day.” – Drew Brees, quarterback for the New Orleans Saints   “I fell in love with the TRX the first time I tried it. Its given me so many different options to strengthen and stabilize my core. I prefer working with body weight during the season so the TRX is perfect for travel and home.” – Heather Mitts, three-time Olympic gold medalist   “In-home clients think it’s the greatest because it is so easy to store and offers a lot of challenge, intensity and variety. I travel with it and use it with the door attachment in my hotel room for my on the road personal workouts.” – Irene McCormick, MS/CSCS

The fittest people on the planet love it, but most importantly so do regular people who have jobs, families to raise and are short on time. On Amazon  all models of the TRX are rated at an average of 4.5 stars and above .

Safety & Precautions

trx suspension trainer review

The only real drawback of the TRX is that you need to have a decent anchor point, and enough of space to perform your workout.

Of course it can be anchored to any tree, fence, doorway or anything else you can find, but the point needs to be sturdy. The TRX will be holding most of your weight so you need to find an anchor point that’s strong enough to do that too. The last thing I want is for you to rush out and anchor it to a flimsy branch!

If you’re going to use the TRX in a doorway it’s important that, firstly, you pick a strong door and, secondly, you position the door anchor correctly. In a lot of hostels the doors are made from old, cheap wood or even plastic. These doors will not support your weight, and you’ll probably end up damaging the door. Nobody wants that.

Once you’ve found a sturdy door, your anchor needs to be placed over the top of the door, as close to the hinge side as possible. This will ensure the TRX is anchored to the strongest point possible. And of course you need to make sure it isn’t a door that somebody’s going to walk through whilst you’re doing your workout!

With enough space and a decent anchor point you will be able to do an amazing workout anywhere. I’ve wasted a lot of money on one off gym fees, and that could easily have been avoided if I had taken my TRX travelling with me.

The Bottom Line

You might be able to tell from my review of the TRX Suspension Trainer that I’m a huge fan.

I created Travel Strong to help people get in shape whilst they travel, and through experience I have found that the TRX is hands down the best way to do that. I wouldn’t be recommending it if I didn’t absolutely believe in it.

Bodyweight Training alone is highly effective, but using a TRX makes it that much easier and enables you to train parts of your body that would otherwise be difficult to hit. But the TRX doesn’t do the work for you. Burning fat and building muscle takes a lot of hard work, and you need the motivation see it through. Put in the work, however, and the TRX will dramatically increase the quality of your workouts and help you reach your goals quicker than bodyweight training alone.

I can only wish that I had taken my TRX with me when I left home to travel, but you don’t have to make that same mistake. Get your TRX  here and reach your goals as soon as possible .

Hmmm… Not sure on this one – yet. I’ll have to give it a try before I commit to pack-and-carry with me. Tnx for the post, tho….funny as I just saw this featured in a mag that I happened to pick up at the car dealer while I was waiting during my car servicing.

Hey Matthew. What are you unsure about? Perhaps I can clear something up in the post for you.

@Will – unsure in the sense is this a new fad or something serious. The first time I saw it – this weekend – I thought, “Oh, no…yet another new way to exercise”. OK….I will have to give it a try out.

I must admit I thought the same when I first saw it! But they’ve actually been around for a number of years now. Nothing will ever beat barbells and good nutrition, but it’s the best solution available to us travellers!

I love my TRX’s workouts. No heavy weights but I have never been so toned. Love that most exercises strengthen my core and I can work all major muscle groups.

I loved TRX when I took some classes at my rec center, but when they stopped doing them I was super bummed. As a college kid I couldn’t really afford $200 exercise equipment…but then I found Woss. They’re not quite as fancy, but for $40 I’ve had no complaints at all. Might be good to check out for a little more affordable option for some people! Definitely a great way to change up my at home.

Thanks for the tip Allison! 🙂

Enjoyed reading this article. Been doing some suspension trying for 3 weeks. My gyms not got any suspension trainers so I’ve been using a cable machine. Limited the exercises I could do but did the job. I’m way from the gym for a week and want a better workout in the gym so decided to buy a suspension system. Thought TRX was too expensive so after reading reviews plumed for the WOSS trainer like Allison. It arrived yesterday and I must say I’m impressed. It seems well made and tough. Looking forward to my first workout.

I love my TRX and I bring it everywhere I go! I’m using this piece of Freedom since 2008 and I’m also using the RIP TRAINER which is really exciting to work out with. Excellent post, stay Fit & Strong! 🙂

How can I use trx while I’m truck driving? I m not really sure what I can connect it to on my truck…

Your creativity is the only limit to the type of workout you can get with a set of the straps. Since you're not working against significant resistance, you might not build as much muscle as you might using more traditional methods — but the straps allow you to hone your balance and body control in a manner that other techniques can't.

If you want to give suspension training a shot, try starting out with these exercises. You'll be able to perform more reps than you would doing similar movements with more weight — but make sure to focus on mastering the form before ripping through sets.

There’s no doubt about it: staying in shape during long term travel can be complicated work. Until someone invents barbells with an anti-gravity setting, the options for all-inclusive mobile gyms will continue to be limited. In the realm of travel fitness, bodyweight-only training is a popular option. This type of training is time-efficient and can be done anywhere without access to specialized equipment, which makes it an enticing option for digital nomads and frequent travelers.

One problem with bodyweight-only workout programs is that they tend to put too much emphasis on ‘pushing’ exercises for the front side of the body (e.g. push ups) while neglecting ‘pulling’ exercises for the back muscles (e.g. pull ups and rows). Overemphasizing pushing exercises for long periods of time can lead to muscle imbalances, poor posture, and eventually pain and injury in the shoulders, neck and upper back. If any of this applies to you or you are someone who sits a lot or who carries around a heavy backpack, pulling exercises are your friend.

Many of us are constantly on the move and can’t count on having consistent access to the equipment we need to give our pulling muscles a good workout. So what’s the solution? Suspension trainers. They are a lightweight, packable option that combines anchored ropes or straps to allow you to work your back muscles much more efficiently than you could with bodyweight exercises alone. There are lots of suspension trainers out there, but the portable TRX Go is specifically intended for travelers.

TRX Go Suspension Training Kit Door Strap Detail

The TRX Go is the lighter and lower cost alternative to the traditional TRX suspension trainers found in gyms around the world. With its thinner mesh straps and lightweight handles, the Go weighs 20.9 oz and, when rolled up into its mesh storage case, measures approximately 7“ x 5“ x 4”. This is a large and fairly heavy addition to lighter packs, but for extended trips and periods of limited access to gyms, it’s worth the added weight to help keep your back and shoulders healthy.

TRX Go Suspension Training Kit Clips

Despite its lower cost, the all around build quality of the TRX Go is solid. The carabiners are light, but feel sturdy and stable during exercise sessions. The straps and anchors are made of heavy duty mesh and are very similar in quality to the TRX trainers found in commercial gyms. The handles are comfortable and grippy with just the right amount of padding. They are intended to absorb sweat and therefore may retain odor, but your hands do not slip around during a workout—even during heavy sweating.

TRX Go Suspension Training Kit Strap Detail

Once anchored, the length of the straps and anchor height can be adjusted directly allowing you to customize the height of the handles for different exercises. TRX recommends anchoring the Go at least 7-9ft off the ground and adjusting the straps so that the handles are suspended at a height of 3in. Once you have the hang of adjusting the straps to get them to the right height, the setup and takedown process should take no more than 1 or 2 minutes.

TRX Go Suspension Training Kit Door Anchor

Another great thing about the TRX Go is the convenience factor. If you have access to a door that closes securely and 6-10ft of space in front of it, you can easily set it up in your hotel room or Airbnb. Noise considerations in hotel and Airbnb settings are also low with the TRX, as most of the exercises involve minimal ground impact. If you don’t have access to a doorway, you’ll also have the option to attach the TRX to sturdy, stationary objects like tree trunks or structural columns using the provided suspension anchor. This means you can use the TRX for extended camping or hiking trips or in remote areas without safe, indoor attachment points.

TRX Go Suspension Training Kit Foam Handles

The overall experience of using the TRX is very much the same as commercial gym suspension trainers with one minor caveat if you hook it up to a doorway: the TRX Go requires the door to be closed in order for it to stay in place. The closed door limits the available ranges of motion for exercises that require your head, hands, or feet to be directly below the anchor point. For example, you won’t be able to do TRX pushups because the door will be in your way:

TRX Go a Little Too Close to the Door via Pack Hacker’s GIPHY

This will be annoying if you are at a slightly more advanced training stage, but won’t be an issue for most exercises.

Depending on your footwear and the floor surface you’re exercising on, you may experience some slipping and sliding around during certain exercises. We’ve found this to be a particular problem on hardwood and tile floors. You may need a yoga mat or other lightweight alternative to avoid slipping.

Packing up the TRX Go when it’s not in use is pretty straightforward. If you’re feeling lazy, you can just roll it up however you want and it will fit into the mesh carrying case. The carrying case can be compressed slightly using the drawstring. If you’re looking to save space and increase packing efficiency, try detaching the doorway anchor and wrapping the straps around the handles. This will make the TRX more symmetrical and easier to fit into your pack.

Storing the TRX Go via Pack Hacker’s GIPHY

Included with the product kit is a card to register your TRX, which will also grant you access to videos with setup instructions as well as several workout routines and exercise guidelines. The videos are good quality and the setup instructions are clear and accessible, so we’d highly recommend checking them out when you are first starting out.

If you just want a couple of exercises to get started, here are two recommendations:

Horizontal Rows

TRX Go Horizontal Rows via Pack Hacker’s GIPHY

If you struggle with this exercise, raise your starting position so that your body is more vertical. The lower you are to the ground, the more challenging the exercise will be. If you’re already pretty strong, you can also try weaving one strap through the other and doing the one arm-version of this exercise. A great starting point is 3 sets of 8-12 for rows.

TRX Go TYI via Pack Hacker’s GIPHY

Make this exercise easier by standing up straighter or make it harder by lowering yourself in the starting position so that you are closer to the ground. Shoot for 3 sets of 5 (one T-Y-I is one repetition) with perfect form.

Usage Timeline

Condition: Excellent

The product feels sturdy and straps are stable with no structural defects. Foam handles are comfortable and in good condition. No discernable sweat odor after a few moderate intensity workouts.

Product has stood up very well to weekly exercise sessions without developing any noticeable signs of wear and tear. The foam padding on the handles does have a slight sweat odor, but it’s hardly noticeable even during workouts.

2021 Ram 1500 TRX Suspension Deep Dive | Underbelly of the beast

Dan edmunds shows you why the trx is such a monster off-road.

suspension travel trx

I think we can all agree that we have been waiting for a gonzo full-size truck like the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX for a long time. After all, it has been over a decade since the Ford F-150 Raptor came out, and it was such an immediate hit that I expected its direct competitors to respond much sooner than this.

We all knew something was finally brewing in 2016, when the TRX concept was unveiled at the Texas State Fair. I was there, and was among the many who gave the assembled Ram higher-ups an enthusiastic thumbs-up. That’s what they were hoping to see before they greenlit the project. The pace of development being what it is, and with the redesigned, current-generation Ram 1500 a prerequisite that understandably had to come first, it’s no surprise that we’re only seeing it now as a 2021 model.

You may be biting your tongue that I overlooked the Tundra TRD Pro or the Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss, but neither of those comes close to following the formula established by the Raptor: big engine, a much wider stance than the base truck, greatly enhanced suspension travel, huge tires and swollen fenders to cover it all. Only the Raptor and the TRX fit that mold. For now.

suspension travel trx

Before I got started, I first pointed the TRX up my RTI ramp and measured its Flex Index score. Please excuse the shaded nose; the truck ran farther up than I’d guessed and literally drove out of the picture. But something in my subconscious warned me to keep the garage door open , which was fortuitous because the nose of the Ram ended up inside.

The TRX hiked its front wheel 29 and 7/8 inches off the ground before the left rear tire reached the point of lift-off, and that equates to a climb of 87.4 inches up the deck of my ramp. Divide that by the TRX’s wheelbase of 145.1 inches, multiply by 1,000, and you arrive at a Flex Index score of 602 points. It could have been a few points higher, I think, if I could have straightened out the steering a bit better. But the high-grip cheese grater surface of my ramp was firmly dug in and having none of it.

This is an extremely good score for a full-size crew cab pickup. Let’s take a closer look at what made that possible.

suspension travel trx

The track width of the TRX’s double wishbone front-suspension is a full 6 inches broader than a regular Ram 1500, and you are looking at the parts that are responsible. The lower wishbone (yellow arrow), the upper control arm (green) and the steering knuckle (red) conspire to add 3 inches per side to the TRX’s stance.

We’re also clearly able to see the massive coil-over Bilstein Blackhawk e 2 shock (white) and its beefy linear-rate coil spring. And by that I mean not progressive-rate.

suspension travel trx

The lower wishbone bolts to the same inner pivots as a standard Ram 1500, and the steering rack location and mounting (yellow) are the same, too. As you might expect, the extra 3 inches of suspension width per side also made it necessary to fit longer steering links (green).

Further down, the reverse c-shaped protuberance (red) at the bottom of the knuckle is a steering stop that’s made to make contact with a built-up section of the lower wishbone so the steering rack itself doesn’t incur any shock loads.

suspension travel trx

The Bilstein Blackhawks have a shock body with an outside diameter of 68mm, and they feature remote oil and nitrogen gas reservoirs (yellow) that are centrally mounted. The left and right sides are stacked on top of each other well above the skid plate, and they’re connected to the shock via beefy braided stainless steel hoses (green) that utilize a rigid stainless pipe for strain relief in the region where the hoses will hammer up and down with the suspension off road.

suspension travel trx

Please note the number at the top of the picture: 330mm. This is not the travel of the shock, but is instead the total wheel travel. That works out to 13 inches exactly, folks. That’s at least 4 inches more than a regular Ram 1500 and, more to the point, exactly the same as a Raptor.

These shocks are electronically controlled, with solenoid-controlled variable rebound and compression bypass circuits built into the piggyback housing (yellow). The main valving in the cylindrical shock body is arranged on either side of the main working piston like a monotube shock, but the variable damping mechanisms inside the piggyback are fed by oil in a concentric annulus that surrounds the main tube. That’s why you might see twin-tube in some written descriptions of this shock even though the primary valving is more like a monotube.

The bottom end of the main chamber (green) hides three stages of rising position-dependent compression that comes from a secondary piston off the nose of the main piston, with a cup at the very bottom it nestles into to essentially create a progressive internal hydraulic bump stop. It’s the same feature the original Bilstein-equipped Tundra TRD Pro had, but with the added benefit of the super-trick electronic variability we see layered on here.

Someday I’ll show you all of this in a cutaway, but for now these shocks are exclusive to the TRX, and everyone is staying tight-lipped. If I had to guess, and knowing that there is a tube-within-a-tube arrangement here to feed the adjustable valves in the piggyback chamber, I’d wager that the 68mm shock body contains a 46mm piston — a familiar Bilstein size.

suspension travel trx

Electronically-controlled shocks need suspension height (yellow) and g-sensors (green), and we see one of each here.

suspension travel trx

Don’t expect to bolt all of this onto your regular Ram 1500 and add flared fenders. The pivot points (yellow) for the upper control arm are some 2 inches higher than your non-TRX truck. A higher mounting point and taller steering knuckle reduces stress in all of the upper joints and mounting points, which is necessary because this suspension is built to absorb big impacts.

suspension travel trx

In case you were wondering, the lower control arm itself is the official jack point. Good thing, because my floor jack doesn’t have the reach to raise this long-travel beast by the frame.

suspension travel trx

Other views make the lower wishbone look bulbous and massive, but we can see that it’s a lot more weight- and stress-optimized from this shot I took while it was parked on my RTI ramp.

suspension travel trx

Looking from behind, the front stabilizer bar (yellow) is plain to see. It was located in front of the axle prior to the 2019 Ram 1500 redesign, but it was moved here because it’s more effective, easier to balance the forces because it’s opposite the coil over, and there’s more room to package it.

suspension travel trx

From here it looks as if the coil over is 65-to-70% of the way out from the inner pivot, so that is the shared spring and shock motion – with a modest deduction for its inward lean angle relative to the arm. The stabilizer link looks to be nearly dead center or maybe a bit outboard, so it’s in the 50% range. Engineers have to take these into account and make their springs, shocks and stabilizer bars stiffer in order to get the desired effect at the wheel.

suspension travel trx

Next to all that suspension beef, I wouldn’t blame you if you thought the brakes looked small. But they’re not. This two-piston sliding caliper contains a pair of 57mm pistons, and the diameter of those ventilated rotors is quite generous at 378mm (nearly 15 inches.)

suspension travel trx

Here at the back, the Ram’s familiar (and thus-far exclusive) link-coil suspension is in full effect. But look at those links! Get a load of that coil!

suspension travel trx

The coil springs have a preogressive rate design, and you can see that here. I talked to a Ram engineer about them, and he told me that they’re over two feet tall out of the truck. I believe it, because I measured 22 inches at the left rear at full droop in the ramp photo we saw earlier. That leaves a couple inches of preload so they don’t need retaining clips.

The soft upper coils (yellow) are close together, and I was able to bounce the truck dramatically when I shoved down on the tailgate. But you want a long spring with soft initial engagement if you’re, say, landing a jump. The lower coils (green) are farther apart and stiffer, and inside you can see the bump stop (red) and the witness mark where it makes contact at full compression.

Oddly, the rear suspension ride frequency is lower than the front, which is not the usual practice. You want the rear to catch up to the front after a single event so the vehicle levels out, and a higher rear stiffness does that. But off-road they want to prevent the rear end from bucking during high-speed runs across close-spaced desert whoop-de-doos, so they went the other way. I can feel the rear is different on a single dip-crossing just down my street, but they use the variable damping to compensate.

suspension travel trx

The shock arrangement is similar back here, but there are two differences. There’s no internal three-stage hydraulic compression bump stop inside because of the progressive spring and its bump stop. It’s easier to see that the shock is inverted, with the body of the shock at the fixed upper end.

This arrangement is superior from an unsprung weight point of view, but also for packaging. I followed the hose to find the remote reservoir (yellow) hidden behind the fender liner.

suspension travel trx

Like the front, the piggyback contains electronically-adjustable compression and rebound valving. Unlike the front, there are 355mm of wheel travel back here. That’s 14 inches, folks. The Raptor is listed as 13.9 inches. That’s a virtual tie – unless you’re a Ram fan. Is it weird that wheel travel is printed on the shock body? Yeah, but where else are you going to put that label?

suspension travel trx

The Bilstein Blackhawk’s stout 22mm shaft (yellow) has a hard chrome finish that you *do not* want dented up by flying stones – which there may be a lot of when you drop the hammer on 702 horsepower of Hellcat fury. That’s why they’re hidden behind these thick shaft guards (green), with a unique shape that gives them even more impact resistance.

suspension travel trx

The rear links (yellow) are not Ram 1500 carryovers. They are much longer and quite a bit stronger, and are more closely related to Ram 2500 pieces. That’s especially true of their pivot bushings (green) – though tuned differently for TRX, they are dimensionally identical to the high-angularity ones that are found in the Ram 2500 Power Wagon. The Power Wagon needs a suspension that articulates. So does this.

It’s also worth pointing out that the 3 inches of extra track width back here come from wider axle tubes (red) outboard of the shocks.

suspension travel trx

Link-coil suspension is more commonly called five-link suspension, and this Panhard bar (aka track bar) is that fifth link. The far end in the dim distance (yellow) is the fixed end that bolts to a bracket on the frame, while the near end (green) connects to a bracket on the axle tube.

But what’s that yellow thing (red - psych!) in the middle? Could it be a fifth shock absorber?

suspension travel trx

That’s exactly what it is. It spans between a bracket mounted atop the rear end housing and a barely-visible frame crossmember. It’s there to tame axle windup and power hop. This kind of this normally isn’t necessary with link-coil suspension, but there are 724 reasons why it makes sense here: 8 high-angularity suspension link bushings, 14 inches of rear travel and 702 horsepower.

suspension travel trx

This view gives you a better idea of where it is located. It also shows that there’s a bit to be gained by extending and re-routing the rear diff breather hose (yellow). As it sits, the “fording” depth here is 32 inches – same as the, um, Ford Raptor .

suspension travel trx

This may be the most stealthily awesome part of the rear suspension. You’re looking at a Dana 60 rear end (yellow) with full-floating axles. The Raptor as we know it does not have anything like it. I don’t know of any other “half-ton” truck with a full floater. What does that mean? The axle shafts are separate from the outer hub drive flanges. They’re splined and bolted together at the outer end. It’s a stronger setup that isn’t here for payload so much as hard landings crossed-up and high-speed impacts.

What you’re not seeing is a rear stabilizer bar. There are only bare unused holes (green). Apart from the TRX, all Rams with link-coil suspension have one. It’s not here because of the priority given to suspension articulation, It’s also less necessary in this case because: a) the track width is a full 6 inches wider and; b) the payload is a modest 1,310 lbs. That’s still a decent payload figure that bests the Raptor by 110 pounds.

What about towing? The TRX is good for 8,100 pounds. The Raptor crew cab is just a tick behind at 8,000 pounds. It’s almost as if someone was making sure they beat their rival by just a smidge all the way down the spec sheet.

suspension travel trx

The rear brakes are made up of 375mm (14.8-inch) ventilated discs and sliding calipers with a single 57mm piston. They have an electronic parking brake actuator, too, which I really appreciated when I set the brake and stepped (more like fell) out of the cab on my ramp.

suspension travel trx

These are massive LT325/65R18 tires – with a T-speed rating good for 118 mph, to boot. That works out to 35-inch tires in old money. The rims are 18x9-inches, and they feature a bolt-on beadlock-style aluminum trim ring that isn’t an actual beadlock because it doesn’t quite overlap (yellow) the tire sidewall.

The whole assembly weighs in at – get ready for this – 103.5 pounds. OK, the front one was 103 pounds. Still, it was very important for me to raise the truck as little as necessary so I could wrestle them on and off with minimal lifting.

suspension travel trx

Want to upgrade to a real beadlock? Mopar has you covered. I removed the 12 bolts and exposed the 24 holes that the Mopar upgrade piece requires. With those in place you can run ultra-low trail pressures and still keep the bead seated and prevent the tire from clocking itself when you give it a bootload of torque. Or you could still use these and paint them.

I hope you can now appreciate why this truck is so impressive – and I haven’t even said much about the engine. This is a well-executed off-road suspension with no cut corners, and the Ram engineering team has taken full advantage of the built-in advantage they had: link-coil suspension.

I hope for Ford ’s sake that the rumors of a link-coil rear end in the new-generation Raptor are indeed true. It seems nearly certain that the new Tundra will have link-coil, and we can only hope that they step up and make a wide-track version of the Tundra TRD Pro to go up against the Raptor and TRX. It’s a good time to be a suspension nerd, is all I can say.

TRX has become my go-to at-home workout—here's why

What is trx suspension training.

Man exercising with TRX suspension system

TRX works by using your own body weight as resistance.

The TRX system was originally developed by Randy Hetrick, a Navy Seal squadron commander who rigged up a rudimentary system using a belt and parachute webbing so he could get a total body workout while he was deployed. (It’s challenging if not impossible to strengthen the back muscles with nothing to pull against.) Known by its signature yellow straps, TRX is used by the military, pro athletes and, well, now at least one journalist for home workouts.

To use these supportive straps, you either hold onto the handles or thread your feet into the straps. By manipulating your body position so you’re working against gravity, you’re able to use your own weight as resistance, getting an effective workout and feeling a serious burn in as little as 15 minutes.

How do you set up a TRX?

Pro tip: When you’re done, open the door carefully so as not to bonk yourself on the head with the anchor (I’ve done it, it’s fine, but still). The anchor hasn’t left any dents or marks on my white doors, so it’s something renters can consider using without worrying about their security deposits.

How does TRX work?

Woman using TRX suspension system in her living room

Suspension training is easy enough to set up anywhere in your home.

TRX is a piece of equipment that offers a form of suspension training. It works by having you use your own body weight to work your muscles and get your heart rate up. Adjusting the length of the straps also helps modify difficulty level and sets you up for different positions.

For example, for a chest press, you hold both handles with elbows bent alongside your body. Step your feet back so your body is on an angle, and holding a stiff plank position, press your arms to straight. For a TRX bicep curl, you face your door, lean back with a handle in each hand, and slowly curl your arms to pull yourself upright.

And it's not just for the upper body: The legs can also get a workout. By holding the straps loosely in your grip for stability, you can lunge and squat more deeply than your own balance and muscle strength may allow otherwise, giving you a fuller range of motion and the activation of more muscles. And if you hook your feet into the straps, you can get a serious ab workout just by holding a plank position.

These are just a few simple examples, but no matter what move you’re doing, you can modify it to suit your ability level just by where you place your feet or the way you angle your body. Then you can work your way up to using more and more of your own body weight to increase difficulty.

What I like about the TRX suspension trainer

Trx is simple to set up and use.

Using TRX suspension system on the beach

The best part about TRX is you can take the equipment anywhere for a suspension training workout on the go.

I expected much more of a learning curve when I first took my TRX out of the box. But within a few minutes, I was set up and sweating away to an online workout. Simple moves like lunges and planks immediately felt more targeted than when I did them without a TRX, so it was easy to get hooked right off the bat.

The TRX is compact and portable

I rent a small apartment, so leaving something permanently installed—let alone hanging from my bathroom door—is a no-go. Luckily, the TRX straps fold up and tuck into the included drawstring mesh bag that's compact enough for me to hold with one hand, and the entire product can fit easily into a drawer when I’m not using it. I’d even consider tossing it in a suitcase for a quick vacation workout.

It can also be used outdoors. Swing one end around a tree branch, or attach its hook to a fence or a jungle gym and you can get a workout in while breathing some fresh air.

Using TRX keeps me active

With a system so easy to use, there really are no excuses to skip a workout. Once you get used to a few core moves, you can develop your own sequence based on the muscle group(s) you want to work. It’s also great for cardio as some workouts incorporate plenty of jumping around.

What I don’t like about the TRX suspension trainer

The app isn't very beginner-friendly, is trx worth it.

TRX suspension training plank

The TRX ab workouts are no joke. By lifting your feet off the floor, even a simple plank becomes challenging.

Yes, if you’re looking for compact, easy-to-use home workout gear

Pre-pandemic, I never expected to be hanging from ropes off my bathroom door and sweating in my kitchen. But even now, I’m glad I have TRX as an option for a quick total-body workout at home.

Prices were accurate at the time this article was published but may change over time.

A Deeper Look At The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Suspension:

Engineering the best performance off-roader on the market....

Photo of Jared B

When it comes to the high-speed desert running, the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX has been engineered to perform flawlessly off-road and on-road . But it takes a lot of advancements in engineering and to get the Ram TRX balanced right to tackle both, engineers rigorously tested the TRX to handle the most punishing conditions with extreme capability and durability.

suspension travel trx

The 2021 Ram TRX’s frame is composed of thicker, optimally shaped, strategically placed high-strength steel that uses low-torsion attributes to increase durability and stability. Sections of the frame are hydroformed for dimensional accuracy, reducing the need for welding, and the side rails are fully boxed. The front rails use high-strength steel and hydroformed sections to set a strong foundation to better handle the front suspension load. Galvanized frame components provide improved corrosion protection.   The Ram TRX boasts a ground clearance of 11.8-inches due in part to a 2-inch ride height increase when compared with the rest of the 1500 lineup, along with 35-inch tires. This combination enables TRX to clear surface obstacles easily and at high speeds.

To protect critical components, including the front axle, transfer case, transmission pan, and fuel tank, TRX employs five skid plates. A separate skid plate sits at the bottom of the front fascia, mitigating potential damage, and doubles as a belly pan. Heavy-duty gauge steel rock sliders are an available option.   The use of lightweight, high-strength aluminum closures, including the doors, hood, and tailgate, helps reduce weight and boost fuel economy. Ram TRX also uses aluminum engine mounts, front axle center section, front suspension, and transmission cross-members, front upper and lower control arms, front skid plate, transmission skid plate, and steering system gear.

An all-new independent front suspension system with active damping uses high-strength aluminum to maintain overall strength and durability. The all-new independent front suspension system includes new front upper and lower control arms made of forged aluminum with special attention paid to the caster and camber angles during suspension cycling. The new, longer, substantially sized front upper and lower control arms are constructed of 80-KSI high-strength steel and designed with a focus on additional wheel travel and axle track width. This new suspension system features upgraded components to provide more performance and improved endurance.   Outback, the Ram TRX’s rear suspension had to clear packaging barriers and the engineering team took that into consideration with this unique application. The result is an innovative and durable solution that produces greater wheel travel without reducing the cargo area in the bed.

The 2021 Ram TRX uses an all-new rear suspension system with active damping and an exclusive five-link coil system for incredible ride characteristics and durability. The frame’s hardpoints for the five-link suspension system differ when compared to a standard-issue Ram 1500 and allow the Dana 60 rear axle to travel up to 13-inches. Overall, rear-wheel travel is increased to more than 13-inches from the standard 9-inches, or more than 40% when compared to the rest of the Ram 1500 lineup.

The 2021 Ram TRX uses the proven five-link coil suspension configuration and provides better articulation over obstacles than a leaf-spring system. This suspension design reduces friction in the spring system and weighs significantly less than a comparable leaf spring system. At 600 millimeters in length, the robust rear springs are the largest ever applied on a non-commercial production vehicle.   The robust coil springs are more than up to the task of handling a maximum payload of 1,310 pounds and towing capability of 8,100 pounds.

New 2.5-inch Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks use precision-machined, single-piece construction comprised of rigid aluminum to reduce and dissipate heat and continuously adjust damping forces for optimal body control and terrain isolation. The adaptive performance shocks feature robust corrosion protection with a durable finish and directional-machined cooling fins aligned with airflow for more effective cooling.   Dual Electronic Proportional Valves continuously adjusts damping forces for precise, independent control of compression and rebound damping. A nitrogen-charged remote reservoir uses a hot-formed, zero-leak tube closure to ensure maximum durability during extreme on and off-road events.

A pressure-activated Triple Rod seal has been field-tested for long-lasting durability against contamination and leaks. Ram TRX uses stainless steel braided high-pressure hose to combat corrosion and abrasion while being able to resist up to 5,800 PSI. A high-strength, lightweight rock shield defends the piston rod against incoming rubble with a custom-molded escape path for debris.   The Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks have been tuned to demonstrate optimum balance between on-road handling and class-leading off-road capability. Ride comfort, body-roll control, and handling are significantly improved with the Ram-proprietary Active Terrain Dynamics suspension management system, new shock tuning, hard points and body mount strategy.

In addition to a standard urethane jounce bumper, the internals of the Bilstein adaptive performance shock feature a Jounce Cut Off to create three zones for progressive bottom-out control during extreme compression events. All modes can reach peak compression damping for the most extreme events.   The 2021 Ram TRX is a high-performance pickup truck built to handle the most punishing conditions with extreme capability and durability. To clear the elevated benchmarks and performance figures that TRX presents, a Dana 60 rear axle with full-floating axle shafts is standard equipment and handles the increased torque output, rear electronic locking differential, and 35-inch tires. The Dana 60 rear axle uses an axle hop damper that enables improved traction and axle control on rough surfaces. A new rear axle center section provides balanced performance and a locking differential for increased off-road performance.

The Ram TRX is equipped with a new BorgWarner 48-13 full-time active transfer case that enables passage through any off-road obstruction or weather condition. This modified transfer case features upgraded internals for improved strength and durability. Ram TRX features a low range of 2.64:1 for rock crawling and can be flat-towed while in neutral.   Off-road, the 2021 Ram TRX will race to 100 mph with ease, and the segment’s largest brakes bring the TRX to a composed halt. Ram TRX relies on a four-wheel disc brake system and a hydraulic compensation unit to enhance brake pedal feel and performance during emergency maneuvers. Upfront is two-piston monoblock calipers clamping down on 15-inch inverted hat (outboard venting) rotors for improved cooling. The rear uses single-piston calipers with 15-inch rotors to provide incredible stopping power. An electronic parking brake holds the truck steady when applied and is standard.

For the 2021 Ram TRX, engineers found that to maximize capability, it would call for a 35-inch tire. Developed exclusively for the Ram TRX, 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory All-Terrain 325/65R/18 tires, featuring an aggressive tread and sidewall with D-load rating, are assigned the task.   There are two different wheel designs that are available on TRX , including an 18-inch x 9-inch optional Beadlock-ready wheel straight from the factory.

An approach angle of 30.2 degrees, breakover angle of 21.9-degrees, departure angle of 23.5-degrees, and a ground clearance of 11.8-inches allow the Ram TRX to go anywhere.

The 2021 Ram TRX uses performance-tuned software to pre-configure and distinguish five dynamic modes – Auto, Sport, Tow, Snow, and Custom – enabling drivers to choose a vehicle setting that ideally meets their requirements and ambient conditions. The drive modes separately control the four-wheel-drive system, throttle response, transmission, paddle shifters, suspension, and the electric power steering. All modes use active slip control that prevents binding and excessive slip from front to rear.   Custom mode allows the driver to personalize the vehicle’s performance with a selectable driving experience, offering a multitude of vehicle system combinations.   Separately, the Ram TRX features three dynamic off-road modes – Mud/Sand, Rock, and Baja – enabling drivers to choose a setting that best fits the terrain around them. Like the on-road modes, the off-road drive modes control several systems, including the four-wheel-drive system, throttle response, transmission, paddle shifters, suspension, and steering.

Those who are looking to purchase a 2021 Ram 1500 TRX, will have the most capable performance off-roader on the market.

Preview: 700 HP Supercharged Chevy Silverado 1500 Super Truck By FOX Is Coming Very Soon!

Just look at this FOX Factory Race Series suspension!

2025 chevy silverado 1500 fox factory supercharged super truck

FOX Factory says that they are preparing a limited-edition Chevy Silverado 1500 Super Truck. This is a wide-body long-travel suspension truck with a supercharged 700 horsepower engine, 3.2 FOX Race Series Live Valve dampers, and 37-inch tires. This is basically, FOX Factory’s answer to the 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R and the outgoing 2024 Ram TRX. Here are all the details we know so far. Let’s dig in.

The truck will be fully revealed on April 15th (next week). It has Baja Kits suspension with up to 14.5 inches of travel. It uses the latest FOX Race Series 3.2 Live Valve dampers with several on-the-fly settings for street driving or off-roading.

Under the hood is a Whipple Gen V supercharged 6.2L V8 engine with 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. We have seen other companies (such as PaxPower Jackal and Blacklake XT1 ) use supercharged 6.2L V8 engines in their Silverado 1500 trucks that produce around the same power.

At this time, we do not have many other details, but this truck appears to have customized wide-body fenders, a unique front bumper with additional customized off-road lights, unique seats, and more.

The teaser video suggests that just 500 of these trucks will be sold. What about the price? We do not have the price at this time, but a 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R has a starting price of $112,895. The 2024 Ram TRX Final Edition has a starting price of $119,620. The FOX Factory Silverado price will likely be higher than this because it uses next-level Race Series shocks and it is a limited run of vehicles.

Stay tuned to this website for more information about the upcoming FOX Factory Silverado . We cannot wait to drive one.

Build Full-Body Strength Without Weights Using This TRX Suspension Trainer Workout

A lot of people assume that the only way to build muscle is by lifting weights. Not true, you can build muscle with bodyweight training … up to a point. If you reach that point and are facing the cost of a gym membership or pair of adjustable dumbbells and can’t justify the expense, a suspension trainer like a TRX—one of the most well-known, if not necessarily the best suspension trainer —can dramatically increase the challenge of bodyweight exercises and help you to continue building muscle.

And even if you have access to a well-appointed weights room , it’s worth using a suspension trainer from time to time. Suspension trainers also improve your balance and core strength, because your body must compensate for the instability introduced into each move.

For a great introduction to the TRX, try this four-move workout created by personal trainer Niko Algieri . “The TRX suspension trainer, for me, is the best training tool on the planet because one piece of equipment can train every muscle in your body, and exercises can be regressed and progressed depending on your fitness and strength level,” says Algieri. “Because one part of your body is constantly suspended on the straps, every movement develops core strength.”

Once you’ve tried the workout, you can discover more with the Coach guides Algieri has contributed to, including the best TRX exercises and an introduction to TRX training .

How To Do This Suspension Trainer Workout

This routine will raise your heart rate while challenging your strength and it only takes around 20 minutes. Complete four to six rounds of the workout, depending on how experienced you are, and switch sides for the unilateral leg exercises every round. Aim for the higher end of the rep range if you’re confident with TRX, or stick to the lower end if you’re a beginner.

Algieri has also dictated the tempo, or speed, each exercise should be performed at. Our guide to tempo training with weights explains how to read the four-digit number, but in brief: the first number is the time in seconds taken to lower, while the third number is the time in seconds to complete the lift.

1 TRX lunge

Reps 10-15 Tempo 2020

With the straps set to the long length, place the top of your right foot in both cradles. Stand and raise your right knee to hip height and raise your left arm to help you balance. Move your right knee behind you and bend your left knee to 90° to lower, bringing your right arm up to help you balance. Think about traveling down and up rather than forward and backward. Drive through your left foot, bringing your right knee and left arm up to return to standing.

2 TRX chest press

Reps 10-15 Tempo 3030

Keeping the strap length long, hold a handle in each hand and face away from the anchor point.  Extend your arms and lean forward, walking your feet backward to create more resistance if you wish. Keep the straps just over your arms and keep your wrists straight. Engage your core and squeeze your glutes, then bend your elbows to lower your chest to your fists. Extend your arms to return to the start.

Reps 10-15 Tempo 2010

Shorten the straps by pulling the yellow tabs all the way to the top, face the anchor and hold the handles with your palms facing. Lean back,  straighten your arms and walk your feet toward the anchor to create more resistance. Bend your elbows to pull up so your chest goes between your hands, ending with your elbows tight to your sides. Squeeze your shoulder blades, then extend your arms to return to the start. Take one second for the first part of the movement—the lift—and two seconds to lower to the start.

4 TRX burpee

Reps 10-15 Tempo N/A

With the straps set to the long length, place the top of your right foot in both cradles and both hands on the floor in front of your feet. From there, jump your left foot back to get into a high plank position, then lower your chest to the floor. Push up and as you lift your hips, jump your left foot forward. Stand up and jump, driving your right knee through in front of you. Repeat at pace.

We love our trucks here in the U.S. They give us the freedom to tow our toys, haul our junk, and move our families with minimal fuss. To that list we can also add: haul some serious butt across the dirt.

The truck world has been all atwitter over two current beasts with so much power and capability they get their own category: super trucks. The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R and the 2023 Ram 1500 TRX both have gobs of power and outrageous off-road chops, but they differ in a few key ways.

Front three-quarter view of a jumping blue 2023 Ram 1500 TRX

Ram 1500 TRX Offers Just a Little More Power Than Ford F-150 Raptor R

Both trucks fit squarely into the full-size pickup category, though nothing else in the segment offers such wild amounts of power.

Side view of a red 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R kicking up sand

The Ford F-150 Raptor R has a stonking 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine under the hood, kicking out 700 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. The Ram 1500 TRX needs one more liter of supercharged displacement to reach similar numbers: 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.

Front seats of a 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R

Ford Raptor R and Ram TRX Duel It Out When It Comes to Off-Road Features

Putting all that power to the ground in the Raptor is a two-speed transfer case with options for two- or four-wheel drive in high and low as well as a four-wheel drive automatic option. Unlike four-wheel-drive high, which sends the same amount of torque to both the front and rear wheels, four-wheel-drive auto sends power to the front wheels only when slip is detected.

The Raptor R also gets a locking rear differential standard. If you're someone who likes a wild ride in the dirt, drifting around corners, and the like, the Raptor R in two-wheel drive delivers. Remember, leaving in the truck two-wheel drive ups your chances of getting stuck, so choose wisely. You won't have to make this decision in the TRX, which is available only with full-time four-wheel drive. Like the Raptor R, the TRX comes standard with a locking rear differential.

Three key considerations for off-roading are ground clearance, wheel size, and travel, and here the Raptor has the edge. At 13.1 inches off the ground, it has over an inch more ground clearance than the TRX. It also runs 37-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires, compared with the 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory shoes on the TRX. The two trucks have similar amounts of wheel travel. The TRX has 13 inches of travel all the way around. The Raptor R gets 13 inches in the front, 14 in the rear.

When it comes to suspension, the Raptor R sports electronically controlled Fox Live Valve shocks that keep the truck from bucking and rocking while speeding down the trail. Ram went with slightly smaller Bilstein shocks that feature three compression zones.

Front seats of a 2023 Ram 1500 TRX

Both do a great job of providing stability at higher speeds, but the TRX has Jump Detection that primes the suspension for a soft landing. The Foxes aren't bad upon landing, but be prepared for a bit of head toss. The Bilsteins, on the other hand, provide a smooth transition from air back to terra firma, soaking up the landing shock before it can make its way into the cabin — or to your neck.

The Raptor R has some trail-tailored technology the TRX lacks, including Trail Turn Assist for tight corners, which brakes an inside wheel to carve a smaller turning radius. Trail Control, meanwhile, keeps the Raptor R at a slow and steady speed in technical situations so the driver need only worry about steering, and Trail 1-Pedal Drive applies the brakes when the driver lifts off the throttle. This provides a smooth braking experience that's helpful in slow-speed rock crawling.

The Ram 1500 TRX Costs $22,000 Less Than the Raptor R

The biggest difference between these two trucks may be the price. For 2023 the Raptor R package adds a whopping $31,000 to the standard Raptor's price, bringing the total to $109,000, including destination. There are few options to add to the Raptor R, but you can snag a moonroof for an extra $2,195 or a retractable tonneau cover for $2,200.

Close-up of the logo on a silver 2023 Ram 1500 TRX

Meanwhile, the Ram TRX starts at $87,000, but if you want to kit it out with some of the tech options that come standard on the Raptor R, such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring, you'll pay closer to $99,000. And if you want one, you'd better act fast. The TRX will end production with the 2024 model year.

All vehicle pricing includes MSRP plus destination charges (set at the time of publication) and will be rounded to the nearest thousand.

First Look | The all-new 2024 Giant Trance X gets adjustable headset & mullet compatibility

The last version of the Giant Trance X was rolled out in 2020 as a longer travel riff on the regular Trance. We tested both the alloy and carbon versions and came away impressed with the floaty suspension performance and well-balanced geometry, which made for a fantastically capable trail bike.

Four years on and Giant is ready to launch the next generation Trance X. With a whole raft of updates including in-frame storage and dual wheelsize compatibility, we expect this is going to be a very popular option for 2024 and beyond.

2025 giant trance x advanced

An overview of the 2024 Giant Trance X

The Giant Trance X is a full suspension trail bike that straddles the gap between the regular Trance and the Reign . It’s neither an XC bike or an enduro racer, but instead is designed to be a versatile all-round trail ripper that competes with the likes of the Trek Fuel EX , Canyon Spectral and Merida One-Forty .

For 2024 the Trance X has been completely redesigned with an all-new frame that’s built around the iconic Maestro suspension platform. The kinematics have been updated and rear travel has increased slightly to 140mm. Up front remains a 150mm travel fork.

Complete bikes are equipped with 29in wheels front and rear, though you can set up the Trance X as a mullet with a 27.5in rear wheel thanks to the 3-position flip chip built into the rocker link.

In addition to the rocker link flip chip, the Giant Trance X incorporates a new headset flip chip for adjusting the reach. First seen on the Glory downhill bike, the modular headset cups can be swapped around to provide three different options; Short (-5mm), Mid (0mm) and Long (+5mm).

Complete bikes will come from the factory set up in the Mid position with neutral top and bottom headset cups. A secondary set of offset headset cups will be included with the bike, which when fitted can be oriented into the Short or Long positions.

Also new for the Trance X is the arrival of in-frame storage. This is the same system that you’ll find on the current Trance and Reign, with a tool-free removable hatch that sits underneath the bottle cage on the downtube. Inside is a soft neoprene pouch for carrying a spare tube and spares. Further capacity is provided by an external accessory mount underneath the top tube.

New Giant wheels & dropper post

Along with the updated frame, the 2024 Giant Trance X will come fitted with a variety of new components that are also worthy of mention.

This includes the latest TRX carbon wheels that will come standard on all of the Trance X Advanced models. These have been completely redesigned for this year, featuring a much lower profile carbon rim that incorporates enormously thick 5mm wide sidewalls. Referred to as ‘Wide Guard Technology’, this design is claimed to drastically improve impact strength and resistance to pinch-flats.

2025 giant trance x advanced

Giant has also taken this new design to the alloy TRA wheels that will come on the cheaper Trance X models. The alloy rims get the same 5mm wide sidewalls, which form a unique hollow box-section structure that helps to keep the weight in check despite the enlarged proportions. Both the carbon TRX and alloy TRA wheelsets feature new hubs with a 72pt freehub system.

Lastly, all of the new Trance X models will be fitted with a brand new Contact AT dropper post. This features adjustable travel by way of plastic clip-in spacers that allow you to change the dropper post travel by up to 30mm. There’s also a new handlebar remote that can be mounted directly to the latest SRAM and Shimano brake levers.

2024 Giant Trance X geometry & size chart

Given the previous Giant Trance X was already quite progressive in terms of its geometry, thankfully there aren’t a whole lot of updates for this new version. Indeed reach measurements are much the same, the chainstay length is very similar and so too is the bottom bracket drop.

Of course the new frame is far more adjustable thanks to its modular headset cups and the 3-position flip chip. And compared to the previous version the head angle has been slackened out close to a full degree. It now sits at 64.8º in the Mid geometry setting, while the seat angle clocks in at 77.2º. You can then tweak both of those angles and the BB height by changing the flip chip into the Low or High settings.

2024 Giant Trance X price & specs

There will be five Giant Trance X models coming into Australia for 2024. The top three feature a full carbon Advanced frame, while the two cheapest bikes utilise an all-alloy ALLUX-SL frame.

Prices will kick off at $4,699 AUD for the Trance X 2, and will top out at $10,999 AUD for the Trance X Advanced 0.

Regardless of price all Trance X models incorporate in-frame storage, the 3-position geometry flip chip and reach-adjustable headset. They all come standard with Fox suspension, Shimano 4-piston brakes, Giant TRX or TRA wheels, and the same Contact AT dropper post.

What about the 2024 Giant Trance SX?

In some parts of the world Giant will be also be offering a new Trance SX for 2024.

This bike features exactly the same frame and suspension design as the regular Trance X, but it comes with a 160mm travel fork and 145mm of rear travel. The change in rear travel is achieved by increasing the shock stroke from 52.5mm to 55mm. However, the additional travel can lead to potential clearance issues with the saddle at full bottom-out, which means Giant only recommends this configuration with a 27.5in rear wheel. As such, the Trance SX models come standard from the factory with a mullet wheel setup.

It’s a moot point for us Aussies, because the Trance SX unfortunately won’t be coming to our shores. Still, it’s worth highlighting since those modifications could be made to the regular Trance X if you wanted. Owners could fit a 160mm air shaft into the Fox 36, and you could easily up-stroke the shock to increase travel to 145mm, as long as you also fitted a 27.5in rear wheel.

That’s something we’re eager to explore ourselves, and luckily for us we’ll have a 2024 Giant Trance X Advanced 1 arriving very soon for testing. Stay tuned for our in-depth review, and in the meantime read on for the specs and prices of the new lineup.

Trance X Advanced

Trance X Advanced

Float up technical climbs and sail down chunky descents. This all-new, full-composite trail bike gives you 140mm of smooth Maestro rear suspension and all sorts of adjustability. You can dial in frame geometry and switch the rear wheel size for the terrain.

suspension travel trx

A new Advanced-grade composite frameset with Maestro suspension offers 5mm added travel compared to the previous generation, going from 135mm to 140mm. The rear suspension is paired with a 150mm fork. The frame is equipped with two, three-position flip chips for the ultimate in versatility and adjustability. The rear flip chip, located on the Maestro rocker arm, lets you adjust frame geometry and fine-tune handling for riding style and terrain. A second flip chip at the headset makes it easy to change the reach, offering 10mm (-5mm, 0mm or +5mm) of adjustment without having to swap your stem. Also new is an integrated down tube storage compartment to carry trail-riding essentials.

Trance X Advanced with interactive tooltips

Advanced Composite

High-performance grade raw carbon is used to produce this custom frame material in our own composite factory. The mainframe and rear swingarm are handcrafted with monocoque construction for optimized stiffness-to-weight and an ultra-responsive ride quality.

Maestro Suspension

Four strategically positioned pivot points and two linkages all work together to create a single floating pivot for the most active, efficient and independent suspension system.

Advanced Forged Composite

A high-pressure molding process is used to produce a complex shaped carbon-fiber upper rocker arm that is lighter, stiffer and stronger than an aluminum version.

Adjustable Frame Geometry

Flip chip adjustability lets you switch between three settings depending on the terrain you are riding. You can select a 64.4, 64.8 or 65.1-degree head angle and corresponding 76.8, 77.2 or 77.5-degree seat tube angle, resulting in a 40, 35 or 30mm bottom bracket drop (size medium).

Reach Adjust

Three-position flip chip at the headset lets riders dial in cockpit dimensions and geometry. This modular system helps fine tune the bike’s handling and rider position using two positioning chips that can be removed and swapped to achieve a Short (-5mm), Mid (0mm) or Long (+5mm) reach.

Rear Wheel Options

Riders can choose either a 29- or 27.5-inch rear wheel, paired with a 29-inch front wheel. The larger 29-inch option improves stability and roll-over capabilities, while the 27.5 option delivers a more agile, snappier feel. It’s a quick and easy way to adjust the bike’s handling.

Frame Storage

New integrated frame storage inside the down tube makes it easy to carry tools, snacks and other essentials. Mounts below the top tube offer an additional option for storage.

A massive down tube and oversized top tube work in unison to provide superior front end lateral and torsional stiffness. The precisely engineered, rectangular shaped down tube yields unprecedented steering precision and pedaling performance.

Integrated Frame Protection

The driveside chainstay and down tube feature built-in protection against rocks and debris. A clear 3M protective strip on the underside of the head tube/down tube junction protects the frame when it’s loaded onto a shuttle vehicle.

Boost Technology

Wider hub spacing (110mm front/148mm rear) results in stiffer wheels for added control plus more tire clearance and an improved chainline for optimal drivetrain performance.

Giant Tubeless System

Integrated Tubeless WheelSystem and tires deliver improved efficiency, comfort and control in the most user-friendly and reliable system.

Techs & Features

Advanced Composite Technology

Giant’s High Performance Grade raw carbon material is used to produce this custom frame material in our own composite factory with a high stiffness-to-weight ratio. The front triangle of these framesets is assembled and molded as one continuous piece in a proprietary manufacturing process called Modified Monocoque Construction.

Advanced Forged Composite Technology

A state-of-the-art high-pressure molding process is used to produce complex-shaped carbon fiber components that are lighter, stiffer and stronger than similar components made from aluminum. This technology is used in critical performance parts such as Maestro Suspension rocker links.

Maestro Suspension Technology

Four strategically positioned pivot points and two linkages all work together to create a single floating pivot for the most active, efficient and independent suspension system on the trail.

MegaDrive

A massive rectangular downtube and oversized toptube work in unison to provide superior front end lateral and torsional steering precision. The precisely engineered, rectangular shaped downtube yields unprecedented steering and pedaling stiffness.

OverDrive

Giant’s original oversized fork steerer tube technology. Designed to provide precise front-end steering performance, the system’s oversized headset bearings (1 1/4” lower and 1 1/8” upper for road, 1 1/2” lower and 1 1/8” upper for mountain) and tapered steerer tube work in conjunction to provide optimal steering stiffness.

PowerCore

A massively oversized bottom-bracket/chainstay area features a fully integrated, 86-millimeter wide bottom-bracket design (92-millimeter wide for off-road bikes). Asymmetric chainstays provide additional stiffness on the driveside and stability on the non-driveside.

3. Moscow Kremlin

Moscow Kremlin

This famously fortified complex is remarkably home to five palaces and four cathedrals and is the historic, political and spiritual center of the city. The Kremlin serves as the residence for the country’s president. It has been used as a fort, and this fact is made clear by its sheer size. The Kremlin’s outer walls were built in the late 1400s.

Under Ivan III, better known as Ivan the Great, the Kremlin became the center of a unified Russian state, and was extensively remodeled. Three of the Kremlin’s cathedrals date to his reign that lasted from 1462-1505. The Deposition Church and the Palace of Facets were also constructed during this time. The Ivan the Great Bell Tower was built in 1508. It is the tallest tower at the Kremlin with a height of 266 feet (81 meters).

Joseph Stalin removed many of the relics from the tsarist regimes. However, the Tsar Bell, the world’s largest bell, and the Tsar Cannon, the largest bombard by caliber in the world, are among the remaining items from that era. The Kremlin Armory is one of Moscow’s oldest museums as it was established more than 200 years ago. Its diamond collection is impressive.

The Kremlin’s gardens – Taynitsky, Grand Kremlin Public and Alexander – are beautiful. The Kremlin has also served as the religious center of the country, and there is a tremendous number of preserved churches and cathedrals here. The collections contained within the museums include more than 60,000 historical, cultural and artistic monuments. Those who enjoy the performing arts will want to consider attending a ballet or concert at the State Kremlin Palace. Completed in 1961, it is the only modern building in the Kremlin.

2. Red Square

Red Square

Lying at the heart of Moscow, Red Square is the most important and impressive square in the city. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions due to its wealth of historical sights and cultural landmarks.

Drenched in history, the huge square is home to incredible sights such as the Kremlin, St. Basil’s Cathedral and Lenin’s Mausoleum, among others. Consequently, it is not to be missed when in Moscow as it really is home to the city’s most stunning monuments.

It is here that many important moments in Russian history took place; the former marketplace has hosted everything from Tsar’s coronations and public ceremonies to rock concerts and Soviet military parades. Wandering around the massive square is a humbling experience and undoubtedly one of the highlights the city has to offer.

1. Saint Basil’s Cathedral

Saint Basil's Cathedral

Located in the impressive Red Square, St. Basil’s Cathedral is gorgeous; its delightful spires appear as if out of a fairytale. The most recognizable building in the country, the cathedral is very much a symbol of Russia. No visit to Moscow is complete without having taken in its unique and distinctive features.

Ivan the Terrible ordered the cathedral’s construction in the mid-16th century, and legend holds that Ivan put out the architect’s eyes so that he would be unable to build another cathedral more glorious than St. Basil’s. Designed to resemble the shape of a bonfire in full flame, the architecture is not only unique to the period in which it was built but to any subsequent period. For various reasons, both Napoleon and Stalin wanted to destroy the cathedral but fortunately did not succeed.

Known for its various colors, shapes and geometric patterns, St. Basil’s Cathedral houses nine different chapels that are all connected by a winding labyrinth of corridors and stairways. On the lower floor, St. Basil’s Chapel contains a silver casket bearing the body of St. Basil the Blessed.

Throughout the cathedral are many beautiful murals, frescoes, wooden icons and other art works and artifacts. Outside the cathedral is a lovely garden with the bronze Monument to Minin and Pozharsky, who rallied an all-volunteer Russian army against Polish invaders during a period of the late 16th century known as the Times of Troubles.

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

travel itinerary for one week in Moscow

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

12 Stunning National Parks and Regional Parks In France

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

things to do in Moscow in seven days

You Will Also Like: 3-Day London Itinerary

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!

I know very little about Moscow or Russia for the\at matter. I do know I would have to see the Red Square and all of its exquisite architectural masterpieces. Also the CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE SAVIOUR. Thanks for shedding some light on visiting Moscow.

Thanks for swinging by! The Red Square is a great starting point, but there way too many places and things to discover aside from it!
