Dolly Parton is a singer and songwriter hailing from Sevier County, Tennessee, United States who was born on January 19th, 1946. Since her debut, she has released 42 studio albums and become one of the most beloved and successful country singers the world has ever known.

Born to a “dirt poor” family as one of twelve siblings living in a one room cabin in Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains, Dolly Parton had something of a gift for singing. So much so that she was featuring on local television and radio by the time she was ten, a mere two years after she'd gotten her first guitar. She continued performing at every chance she got and the moment that she graduated from high school, she moved out and relocated to her native state's capital Nashville to pursue a genuine career in music. Even when she was at such a young age, her first major success came as a songwriter, after she signed a deal Combine Publishing and wrote a number of hits for artists like Hank Williams Jr, and Skeeter Davis with her uncle Bill Owens. However, behind the scenes was never going to be enough for Parton.

In 1965 she signed a record deal proper with Monument records, the problem was the she was pitched to the label as a bubblegum pop singer when she really wanted to make country music. After releasing a few singles that sank without a trace, a composition of hers, “Put It Off Until Tomorrow”, became a huge hit on the charts thanks to Bill Phillips, who took it to number 6 on the country charts in 1966. As a result of this, Parton's label relented and allowed her to make country records from then on. Parton's story arguably begins there and right off the bat, her first two singles as a country artist went to number 24 (“Dumb Blonde”) and number 17 (“Somethin' Fishy”) respectively.

Her debut album “Hello, I'm Dolly” was released in February 1967, and Parton began building a reputation for herself as one of the most talented young songwriters around. Most notably attracting the attention of country veteran Porter Wagoner, who gave her an enormous leg up by featuring her regularly on his TV show and securing her a record deal with his label RCA. For the rest of the decade, the majority of her hit singles were duets with Wagoner, although from time to time solo singles of hers like “Just Because I'm A Woman” and “In The Good Old Days (When Times Were Bad)” would break out and become legitimate hits of her own. However, her first bona-fide smash hit wouldn't come until 1973, and in a flurry of auburn hair and emerald green eyes, “Jolene” topped the country charts and broke into the Billboard Hot 100 for the very first time in Parton's career.

After professionally splitting from Porter Wagoner she wrote her second country number one single “I Will Always Love You”, and after she proved to the world that she was an artist with genuine staying power, Parton's star continued to rise and rise from then on. She began crossing over into mainstream stardom over the course of the 70's, with her 1977 album “Here You Come Again” breaking her all over again by selling over a million copies and cracking the top 20 of the Billboard 200. By the end of the decade, Parton's singles were regularly charting in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 while also colonising the country charts, and the height of her commercial clout came in 1980, when her single “9 To 5” became a triple number one hit, topping the country and adult-contemporary charts, and becoming her only single to top the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time.

Ever since then, Parton has become arguably the most iconic country musician since Johnny Cash, with a back catalogue to rival any iconic artist from any era and the name recognition to draw a crowd of over a hundred thousand people to her concert at the 2014 Glastonbury festival, half a century after beginning her journey in music. She remains at the top of her game, and she comes highly recommended.

Many living legends have found their way onto the stage at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, but very few have been able to compete with the natural spectacle of the venue. Dolly Parton proved to be an exception to the rule on Wednesday night. At 70 years old, the woman best known for her contribution to country and western music, took one look at the grand monoliths towering above her and laughed like a little girl. “C’mon Colorado, let’s get our rocks off tonight!” Still perfectly comfortable playing the town trollop with a heart of gold, Dolly performed an epic two-hour set of hits, classics, and covers, all augmented with anecdotes plucked from her storied past, in an accent that conveyed a southern innocence with a healthy dose of grit.

Grandiose is every way — from her big blonde hair to her perfectly manicured toes; from her shiny made-up face to her silver six inch heels; from her rhinestone-encrusted dresses to her rhinestone-encrusted guitars; from her famously huge breasts to her famously tiny waistline — every feature augmented, every flaw erased, giving the impression of a real-life backwoods Barbie doll. Her appearance onstage was almost blinding. Sheer curtains acted as window dressing, and although her simple 3-piece band were up there as well, Dolly Parton was a beacon of light that negated everything around her. Dressed all in white, with her platinum hair and alabaster skin glowing under an intense spotlight, she resembled a woman half her age. Part beauty queen, part cartoon diva, Dolly was literally beaming with life as she gave her first warning of the evening; “they are filming tonight, so it you are here with someone you aren’t supposed to be, be careful,” she laughed, infecting everyone in the vicinity.

Dolly Parton has built an empire around her image (estimated net worth = $500 million). Aside from her work in the music industry, she is also an accomplished actress, author, and businesswoman. She literally has an amusement park called Dollywood. But none of that matters when it comes to her live performance. Sure, there is a novelty aspect to seeing someone like Dolly Parton in the flesh, but if she couldn’t sing, that’s all it would be. Luckily, her voice has held up as well as her various elective surgeries. “Why’d You Come in Here Lookin’ Like That” found the extremely diverse crowd on their feet, singing and dancing along with a song that came out in the late 80’s, yet sounded exactly as it did on White Limozeen. “Jolene”, presented surprisingly early in the set, came with its own introduction about the girl who tried to steal her husband away, but in failing to do so, made her a lot of money. She performed the song with an effortlessness that was almost surreal. How a 70-year-old woman can sound exactly as she did when she was 28, especially when performing at an elevation of 6,400 feet, is beyond me.

As we stood there, starring at the dimly lit stage, we could feel the presence of an icon was about to descend on us. Children, grandmothers, flamboyantly dressed gay men, and women. A see of women and it felt great. We were all one now. The room began to rumble, as the no-one-cares-who-he-is guitarist announced: "Ladies and Gentlemen…... Miss Dollllllly Parrrrrrton!" With spunk and pep she cut into the darkness on to the stage. Her sequence collar and her tassled denim jacket squeeze her ribs tighter than string on a baked ham. And the crowd roared. How it roared. Her collagen filled lips split over porcelain teeth as her eyes glistened.

"How Ya'll doing out there?!" My heart stop. And for a moment, I struggled to breath.

I'd never seen anything like this. She wasn't human, she was a Devine spirit and we had all been born again.

The band began in perfect tempo as a lull behind this siren. From behind her back she took out a beautiful white acoustic guitar and started to strum on the strings- she could do it in her sleep. Over 50 years on stage, 10 record labels, 11 concert tours, 42 studio albums, and a theme park to boot.

For those who don't dig country music, you must listen to Dolly Parton, you must go to her shows and see this for yourself while she is still on Earth with us.

Her epic song writing has withstood the test of time. Songs of love and heart break. Of being strong and standing up for yourself in a world that is often so against us. Her music is timeless, her lyrics are deep in their simplicity and everything this woman stands for is awe-inspiring. Dolly Parton is the original Spice Girl, the first Lady Gaga and living proof that anything is possible when you refuse to conform. Don't be fooled by this dumb blond, she is an entrepreneurial powerhouse who heralds from a tiny shack in Tennessee. Her rise to fame can only be credited to her complete determination and strength. As a concert goers we all walked out of the arena that night with just a little bit of it rubbed into us. Strength. Determination. Being true to ones-self.

Thank you Miss Parton, you put on one hell of a show.

Last year at Glastonbury the likes of Kasabian and Metallica stepped up to headline the prestigious Pyramid Stage yet one iconic performer pulled crowds of vaster numbers to the very same stage on a Sunday afternoon. Country music sensation Dolly Parton sauntered out onto stage as the majority of the festival goers gathered to watch this legend of pop and country perform with her live band. She did not disappoint and clearly understood the sheer importance of the platform that she was stood upon.

Bringing her A game along with a whole host of hits, she held the tens of thousands strong crowd with a pure professional ease as she has charisma to spare. Playing an impulsive saxophone instrumental of the Benny Hill theme was not the most surreal moment of the set, that was perhaps saved for the bellowing of '9 to 5' by near to 100,000 patrons all at once. Considering Dolly is almost 70 years old, she moved with energy and vigour as her beehive bopped along to the irresistible tones of 'Jolene' and 'Blue Smoke' whilst she saved her swan song 'I Will Always Love You' for an emotional finale that dwarfed the performance of almost every other act of the weekend.

I love your music. Me and my grandparents have a very bittersweet memories of dressing up like you and Kenny Rogers grandma made me a dress it was blue and it had big old fake boobs cuz I was 14 and I didn't have any of my own but I sure do know LOL but they put me in the lip sync contest and I won first place. lol . They passed away and my buried in an urn on top of my grandpa's grave they were so close it was unreal. They met you a lot they went out to Dollywood. And a few concerts too. But they passed and now every time I listen to your music I cry and when I go to the cemetery I played their favorite song by you islands in the stream. I really hope I'm lucky enough to meet you too one day or at least see you in concert. And they raised me and they were the best people in the world they were good honest good art of people they were my mom and dad that I never had

Dolly Parton show was AWESOME! She is witty, beautiful, can play 15 instruments and sing with the voice of an angel. Storytelling time, sitting on the bench with the coat of many colors draped over it was a cool part of the show. I believe she sang every song that I remember growing up. She is so cute making fun of herself in regard of her wig, her boobs, etc. I wish it would have gone on for hours more. She had a cold and sinus drainage, but other than drinking some water and blowing her nose, occasionally, we could not tell it. She is a Christian and spoke of God and family...the crowd of about 8000 people applauded and loved every second of this show. One of the true women out performing on tour! Love ya, Dolly Parton!

Dolly Parton is charming, funny, and loves her audience. Granted I am not a big country music fan nor do I know more than 3 Dolly Parton songs, but if one thing is clear it's that she LOVES her fans.

Throughout the show, she spoke about her upbringing, about what the songs mean to her, and her life. She pokes fun at herself and her appearance and overall I came away thinking of Dolly as a person you could meet and be friends with.

Lovely show, definitely for the older crowd, go for Dolly to be in her presence because she is straight-up one of the nicest artist ever, and stay for Jolene and 9-5 (her closing song was "I will always love you" and she dedicated it to the audience =)).

We need more Dolly Parton concerts in Boston or New York or Connecticut or somewhere around these states. We need more of her spiritual and beautiful voice and story telling. We have never seen such a great uplifting concert like hers before. No one can touch her and we need a few more concerts here in these parts. Dying and starving for another Dolly Parton concert! To get us going while Dolly is resting and gearing up for another concert , if anyone can make a suggestion for another singer who comes a little close to the awesomeness of Dolly, let me know. We will see the concert and will need to hold us over until Dolly gets on the road again for more concerts.

Dolly please come to Minnesota. I really would love to see her. Dolly I admire her so. Talented, smart and real. Dolly is one of the few people I can still see if she comes. I missed Johnny Cash and so many others. Not many artists come here. I don’t know why. I can’t imagine there would not be enough interests. Please Dolly , please.

we have seen her in concert many times at different places. Where we love best is at Dollywood when she has a concert there. Here is hoping she will have a concert at Dollywood the end of may to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary and bring Carl along to help her sing!!

Words cannot describe spending the evening with Dolly Parton! Such a beautiful soul and wonderful story teller. She's brilliant and her concerts are always stellar. She never disappoints. This was my 3rd Dolly concert and I will go to every show I get the chance.

The highly anticipated West End smash-hit musical is back in business and ready to make its debut Down Under when it lands at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre from February 2022.

Okay, now that we’ve got the singalong over and done with, let’s dive into the show.

Who is in the 9 to 5 The Musical cast?

The countdown is on to the much anticipated Australian premiere of  9 to 5 The Musical which is set to open in February at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre – and the star-studded cast is truly splendid!

Marina Prior  will play Violet Newstead (the role made famous by Lily Tomlin) a smart, sassy and efficient woman who has worked all her life at Consolidated Industries. Prior gained prominence as Cosette in the Australian premiere of  Les Misérables  and Christine Daae in  The Phantom of the Opera , and has grown to become one of Australia’s most accomplished leading ladies, playing lead roles in  The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, and The Secret Garden .

Casey Donovan  will be Judy Bernly (played by Jane Fonda in the film), a newly separated, never worked before young woman who finds more than just a job at Consolidated Industries. Donovan has become an audience favourite in concert and in musical theatre. Most recently she played Matron Mama Morton in the smash hit musical  Chicago , and has performed in  The Flower Children, The Sapphires, Rent  and  We Will Rock You .

Erin Clare  will play Doralee Rhodes – the role made famous by Dolly Parton herself – a ‘don’t mess with me’ well-brought-up, bright and beautiful country gal. She may look like a push over but is anything but! Following her first starring role as Scaramouche in The Gordon Frost Organisation’s national tour of  We Will Rock You , Clare has featured in  Heathers the Musical, American Psycho, High Fidelity, American Idiot  and  Merrily We Roll Along .

Caroline O’Connor  plays busy-body Roz Keith, the administration assistant who is fiercely – and unrequitedly – in love with her boss Franklin Hart Jnr. O’Connor has played lead roles on Broadway, in the West End, France and across Australia. While Eddie Perfect  will play the controlling boss Franklin Hart Jnr. One of Australia’s most respected and prolific writers and performers, Eddie is perhaps best known as all-round nice guy Mick Holland on Channel 10’s hit series  Offspring .

I am so excited that Marina, Casey and Erin will be playing Violet, Judy and Doralee alongside Caroline and Eddie in the Australian cast of 9 TO 5 . Originally starting out as a film starring power trio Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin,  9 to 5  went on to become a five-season television sitcom, led by Parton’s younger sister. But as they say, good things never die, and in 2009,   9 to 5  was adapted for the stage – you really can’t stop a fab story about female empowerment in the workplace from living on.

A sensation on the West End – the musical adaptation follows the same plot as the film. For anyone unfamiliar, we meet three workmates, Doralee, Violet and Judy, who are pushed too far by their mean-spirited boss, Franklin Hart Jnr. Resorting to wit, camaraderie and cunning, what follows is a whirlwind adventure, with our three stars plotting to kidnap their boss and get their revenge. The only question is, will the feisty trio manage to change the office culture to reach their full potential – or will events unravel when the CEO pays an unexpected visit?

Ahead of its time when it first opened in cinemas back in December 1980, still today – nearly 40 years later – the message that underpins  9 to 5  is still just as relevant and important.

Full of mischief, laughter and affection, and with a score written by Parton herself – what more could you want in the New Year?

The show was originally meant to debut in April 2021, but the show’s team had to change plans because of the pandemic.

When Covid hit last year, we were two weeks from starting rehearsals. But now 9 TO 5 is back in business, and we are so excited to have confirmed our theatre, set the dates, and we’re now assembling our cast . After the last 18 months, Australia is ready to laugh, and will love this upbeat, fun and inspirational production that is full of Dolly Parton’s fantastic music including the iconic title song . When the smash musical was first reimagined for Broadway in 2009, Parton received a Grammy nod and Tony nomination for the original music she composed, so expect plenty of feel-good tunes to sing along to.

It made its West End debut in London back in February, originally only scheduled for a 16-week run, but due to its insane popularity, it has since been extended multiple times and is now on an open-ended run.

The hit musical is set to debut in Australia on February 16th.

It was announced today that Global Superstar Dolly Parton 's smash-hit West End musical 9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL will play at the State Theatre, Arts Centre Melbourne, from 10 July this year. Internationally acclaimed and loved by audiences and critics alike, 9 TO 5 is pure gold carat fun! The waitlist is now open. A stellar cast has been assembled to inhabit these iconic and much loved roles. Marina Prior (The Sound of Music, Phantom of the Opera) will play Violet Newstead, a smart, sassy and efficient woman who has worked all her life at Consolidated Industries. She has all it takes to run the company but there is one small issue ... her boss! Casey Donovan (Chicago, We Will Rock You) will be Judy Bernly, a newly separated, never worked before young woman who finds more than just a job at Consolidated Industries. Erin Clare (Heathers the Musical, American Idiot) plays Doralee Rhodes, a 'don't mess with me' well-brought-up, bright and beautiful country gal. She may look like a push over but is anything but! Caroline O'Connor (Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Anything Goes) will be busy body Roz Keith, the admin assistant who is fiercely - and unrequitedly - in love with her boss, while Eddie Perfect (TV's Offspring, Shane Warne The Musical) will play the controlling boss Franklin Hart Jnr.

Rehearsals have begun and the countdown is on to the much anticipated Australian premiere of this hilarious musical at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney on 16 February, followed by a limited season at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC, Brisbane from 22 May.

Dolly Parton is returning Down Under for a national tour.

The country legend will bring her “Blue Smoke World Tour” to Australia for six dates in February, promoter Live Nation announced on Monday.

“Australia, here I come again. We have a lot of new and exciting things for the show and can’t wait to share it with you. I love my fans in that part of the world. You’ve been so very good to me for so many years and I know that we’re gonna have a wonderful time,” the singer said in a statement.

When Parton last toured these parts in 2011, she played two-and-a-half hour shows and broke a drought with Australia which lasted close to three decades. That tour, organized by legendary promoter Michael Chugg, was one of the year’s biggest box-office hits.

The general ticket onsale for her 2014 trek starts Nov. 1, and the pre-sale kicks off Oct. 28.

News of next year’s Australian dates dropped just hours after an exclusive interview hit free-to-air local TV in which Dolly opened-up about her poor upbringing, her inconspicuous husband and the plastic surgery she’s had — and will likely have again.

Its safe to say she won’t bring to Australia the hip hop act she’s pulled for talk show host Queen Latifah. In a clip that went viral over the weekend, the 67-year-old donned an enormous afro wig and gold chains, and rhymed her way through a short rap that included telling Latifah to “stick that in her pipe and smoke it.” There was also a quick reference to Miley Cyrus and twerking.

Dolly’s latest studio album “Blue Smoke” will get a global release through Dolly Records at an unspecified date.

  Following the incredible success of two sold-out  Tapestry  tours celebrating the career of Carole King, dual Helpmann Award-winner Esther Hannaford is returning with ‘Praise Dolly’ – a journey through the superb music of Dolly Parton.

From worldwide hits ‘Jolene’, ‘Here You Come Again’, ‘Coat of Many Colors’, ‘I Will Always Love You’ and many, many more, ‘Praise Dolly’ will be a deep dive through the songs of one of the greatest icons of all time.

Performing two sets over two hours, the concert will delve into just some of the 110 charted singles (including 26 Billboard Country #1s) and 41 Top 10 country albums of Dolly’s remarkable multi-Platinum, multi-award-winning career – making this the must-see show of 2022.

The Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese , has recalled how he saved Dolly Parton’s 2011 tour down under by allowing the country music star to bring a big bus deemed too large for Australian roads.

Albanese, who describes himself as an “indie rock and roll” fan, retold his star turn in an ABC Radio segment commemorating Parton’s 78th birthday on Friday.

Albanese recalled that “a few years ago, when I was transport minister, I intervened to give Dolly Parton’s tour the go-ahead”.

“She was going to cancel the tour and it was worth in excess of $30m – tickets had already been sold,” he said.

“Dolly Parton doesn’t like flying around, right? So she has a bus that is larger than the regulations and the bureaucrats say is not allowed on New South Wales roads and on roads in Australia, so I intervened and said ‘for goodness sake, surely going from A to B with Dolly Parton’s bus [should be allowed]’.”

Reports at the time said the 14.5-metre bus was ruled by customs to be nearly two metres too long, five centimetres too wide and overweight for Australia, while state road officials also objected to its doors opening on the right side of the vehicle.

“I got to have a look inside, it’s a bit more than a bus, she sort of she lives in there, basically,” Albanese said on Friday.

“It’s quite luxurious but it’s longer and wider than a normal bus here and so I intervened as the federal transport minister and her tour went ahead.

“And I got to meet Dolly and to go to her gig there out at Homebush and I’ve got to say it was fantastic.

“She is a great entertainer and so happy birthday Dolly.”

In 2011 Dolly Parton personally thanked Albanese during her tour.

“I want to especially thank Anthony Albanese,” she said.

“He was so good to make sure we got my buses here ... Now I don’t know if he’s here today but if he is you can come up here and I’ll smear lip gloss all over you.”

Before Tamworth’s country music festival, the largest music festival in Australia, Albanese said it was one of Australia’s “great events”.

Albanese is well known for his love of indie rock music and was personally congratulated by singer-songwriter Billy Bragg after his election in May 2022 .

Albanese is also an amateur DJ . In a 2015 interview with Guardian Australia after a set at a fundraiser, Albanese confessed to playing pop hits including Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off.

The superstar is heading to our country music heartland

Country music star Dolly Parton has added one more show to her upcoming Australian tour and it's set to be a very special one.

The iconic entertainer will now also perform in our country music heartland of Tamworth, at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment Conference Centre on Sunday 16 February. Tickets for My Live Nation members will be available from this Wednesday 15 January at midday, while the general sale are available as of Friday 17 January from 9am.

Parton only recently added extra Brisbane and Melbourne for the Blue Smoke Tour, her first run of Aussie dates since 2011.

Dolly Parton says she likely won't tour again, but may play live from time to time

Dolly Parton, the legendary country singer, doesn't plan to go back on the road and tour — despite plans to release a new rock album.

"I do not think I will ever tour again, but I do know I'll do special shows here and there, now and then," Parton said in an interview with Pollstar magazine published Thursday. "Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore."

Parton, 76, said that at this point in her career, she prefers to not stray too far from family.

"I like to stay a little closer to home with my husband. We're getting older now, and I don't want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time. Something could happen," Parton said. "I would not feel right about that."

Parton's team did not respond to requests from NPR for additional comment.

Parton's last tour was her 2016 Pure and Simple Tour that spanned more than 60 cities in the U.S. and Canada — becoming her largest North American tour in over 25 years.

Although she doesn't plan on touring, Parton's career is far from over. In the same interview, Parton confirmed she is working to create a rock album after she wraps up work on a film adaptation of the best-selling James Patterson novel "Run, Rose, Run."

"I'm gathering all that stuff and notifying a few people," Parton said. "I'm looking forward to it."

Now You Can Sleep Inside Dolly Parton’s Former Tour Bus

D olly Parton's rags-to-riches story has always fascinated me. Luckily for fans like myself, Dolly is a storyteller. But she doesn't just want to tell you her story, she wants to show you. Look no further than her namesake theme park  Dollywood , located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The park has become a glimpse into Dolly's life. 

For example, Wildwood Grove functions as an idealized version of the mountains of her youth. Jukebox Junction is a recreation of 50s-era Sevierville, where she grew up. Dolly also made her vision clear in Rivertown Junction, where Dolly Parton's childhood home sits . But one of the newer experiences from the company will not be one that most of us can afford. Still, for some elite few, there's a truly unique experience next door to DreamMore Resort and Spa, the resort located close to her theme park.

What is Dolly Suite 1986?

Suite 1986 is Dolly Parton's former tour bus. Guests now have the opportunity to  stay overnight in Dolly's former home away from home. The bus that is now Suite 1986 served as Dolly Parton's tour bus from late 2008 through March 2022. Dolly Parton often refers to her tour bus as the "Gypsy Wagon". In the years that it served Dolly, it traveled about 360,000 miles throughout North America, making trips to Nashville, Los Angeles and more. In 2016, it served Dolly during her largest North American tour in 25 years, the Pure & Simple Tour, where it traveled to more than 60 cities in the United States and also in Canada. 

A stay on this bus, I think, is something that would be truly special because of how special it is to Dolly. While she's on the road, the bus serves as a unique sanctuary for Dolly where she writes. She wrote albums like "Backwoods Barbie" and "9 to 5 the Musical" and also wrote books, television shows and movies. According to Dollywood officials, Dolly also enjoyed taking care of the people who traveled with her on the tour bus, including her friend and personal assistant Judy Ogle and bus driver Tim Dunlap. On the bus, she made sandwiches and talked to them about life and family. 

What's inside the tour bus?

Dolly notoriously does not enjoy flying, so the Prevost tour bus was Dolly's home away from home. But of course, Dolly still knows how to travel in style. She made several customizations and upgrades to the bus, including a full-size refrigerator, an uncommon sight on most tour buses. The country music star also requested electric doors, a bathtub and other custom details to best fit her needs. For example, to accommodate her show wardrobe, the bus had three bunk beds instead of the standard six to make room for a closet.

The bus also has special hand-painted murals and unique paintings of wayfaring wanderers, wagons and crystal balls to represent life on the road for the singer. Not surprisingly to me, the bus also has a wig cabinet. Dollywood officials say that she almost always stayed on the bus instead of in a hotel room. 

How much does it cost?

The tour bus experience requires a two-night minimum and starts at $10,000. While that's out of my personal budget, I think it's important to note that a portion of the proceeds from each stay will benefit the Dollywood Foundation and the Imagination Library. The tour bus also sleeps two guests. However, the stay also includes a DreamMore Resort guest room to accompany up to four additional guests. The suite also includes a VIP dining experience. Pitbull Announces Dates for Upcoming Party After Dark Tour with T-Pain and Lil Jon: 'Get Ready'

Mr. Worldwide will play shows in more than 25 cities throughout North America from August through October

Mr. Worldwide is preparing to conquer North America.

On April 23, Pitbull announced his upcoming Party After Dark Tour, set to span over 25 cities in the United States with special guest T-Pain joining throughout the run. Lil Jon will also open for a couple dates.

Kicking off Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia, the tour will hit cities including New York City, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, Phoenix and more before wrapping on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Isleta Amphitheater in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Tickets will first become available through various presales starting Wednesday, April 24 before the general public gains access on Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m. local time, with more information available on Live Nation's website . VIP packages are also available .

"Get ready! I’m heading your way for the #PartyAfterDarkTour w/ special guest @TPAIN . Tix on sale Friday at 10am. Daleeee," wrote the "Timber" musician, 43, upon the announcement on social media.

T-Pain also took to social media to share the news with fans, writing, "HEY BABY GIRL WHATCHU DOING THIS FALL??? I’m going back on the road with my brother @pitbull ."

Last year, Pitbull released his 12th studio album, Trackhouse , featuring T-Pain on "Lit in the City" and Lil Jon on "JUMPIN." He reissued the project earlier this year with Trackhouse (Daytona 500 Edition) , which included collaborations with artists including Tim McGraw, Nile Rodgers and Dolly Parton.

The three rapper tourmates each worked together prior to their latest link-ups. Pitbull and Lil Jon have released songs including "The Anthem," "Toma," "Culo," "305 Anthem," "Pitbulls Cuban Rideout," "Watagatapitusberry" and "Krazy," while Mr. 305 and T-Pain have earned hits with "Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor)" and "Shake Señora."

Pitbull last toured North America on The Trilogy Tour in 2023 alongside Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias.

Following it's UK Premiere in Leeds, Here You Come Again will embark on a major UK tour bringing together for the first time ever all of  Dolly Parton’s biggest hits in a rollicking and joyful new musical, fully authorised by Dolly herself.

Packed with the iconic songs ‘ Jolene', ‘9 to 5', ‘Islands in the Stream', ‘I Will Always Love You', ‘Here You Come Again'  and more, this lively and touching new musical tells the story of a diehard fan whose fantasy version of international icon Dolly Parton gets him through trying times.

With her wit, humour and charm, Dolly teaches him a whole lot about life, love and how to pull yourself up by your bootstraps…even if your bootstraps don’t have rhinestones!  This is one musical that is sure to make you smile.

Pitbull announces Party After Dark concert tour: T-Pain, Lil Jon to join as special guests

Latin rap star Pitbull is set to deliver a mix of his career-spanning hits on the upcoming Party After Dark Tour. The U.S. trek follows numerous successful solo tours for the "Give Me Everything" rapper, including the triple-headlining Trilogy Tour with Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin .

Produced by Live Nation, the 26-city tour kicks off on Aug. 21 in Bristow, Virginia, making stops across the U.S. before wrapping in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Oct. 5.  Fellow rappers T-Pain and Lil Jon will serve as a special guests on the tour.

The Grammy-winning Pitbull is known for a slew of hit singles , including "Fireball," "Timber" with Kesha , "Hotel Room Service," "Give Me Everything" with Afrojack and Ne-Yo and "Time of Our Lives" with Ne-Yo.

T-Pain, known for singles like "Bartender," "Buy U a Drank" and "Booty Wurk" is popular for his use of auto-tune pitch with electronic-style vocal performances. His most recent album, "On Top of The Covers," was released in 2023.

Lil Jon will join the pair on two tour dates, in Ridgefield, Washington and Chula Vista, California. The rapper and DJ is known for the tracks "Turn Down For What," "Shots," "Get Low" and "Yeah!" with Usher and Ludacris. He was most recently featured on the Pitbull track "Jumpin" in 2023.

Beyoncé and Dolly Parton’s versions of Jolene represent two sides of southern femininity

On her new album, Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé puts a new spin on Dolly Parton’s classic song, Jolene. Though the album has achieved critical acclaim and commercial success from the start, it has also attracted some pushback .

It’s only natural that Beyoncé’s cover version would be compared to the 1973 original. Some people commenting online were vocal about not liking Beyoncé’s version, often citing its lack of vulnerability when compared to Parton’s version. But is vulnerability essential to the tale of Jolene?

There are upwards of 80 covers of Jolene, but Beyoncé’s is a departure from the rest. With significant lyrical changes, an added bridge and the voice of male country singer Willie Jones, the 2024 Jolene has a very different attitude. The Houston native’s Jolene is decidedly Black, and therein lies the crux of the different reactions towards the song.

Both versions of Jolene are about dealing with the threat of infidelity. It is important to examine the story Dolly Parton tells on Jolene because it, too, is rooted in her racial and gendered identity as much as Beyoncé’s Jolene is. But whiteness often goes unremarked upon.

The country genre is famed for storytelling and in this play between two white women, Parton is negotiating with Jolene based on conventions of the white southern womanhood and the gentility expected (or performed). The traditional southern belle femininity adheres to strict gender roles. She is a woman who is demure, chaste and charming. Think Scarlet O'Hara of Gone with the Wind or even Blanche Devereaux from The Golden Girls.

Parton is guileless as she charms Jolene with flattery about her beauty and ability to have any man she likes. Parton pleads, justifying the years she has invested in him and stresses that she will never love again.

The contrast between Parton and Jolene’s aesthetics are meant to convey a stark distinction in beauty and insecurity. Parton is blonde and blue eyed, an archetypal beauty that is associated with purity and innocence. While Jolene is fiery and wayward, with her auburn hair and her envious green eyes.

But it’s hard for me to think that Parton’s self-effacing isn’t a pointed performance of white, southern belle femininity. In her words, you have to read a little deeper to understand what is really going on.

Tension is at the core of Jolene. As linguistic anthropologist Marcyliena Morgan writes about southern language, Parton is confined in that genteel white femininity, unable to transgress its boundaries with even a hint of anger. She made this song at a time when the feminist movement was at its second-wave peak, but many white women in the south were politically conservative and saw the movement as a threat.

How is Beyoncé’s story the same but different?

Beyoncé’s song changes the story and takes it further. Towards the end of the song, Beyoncé and her partner turn a corner and offer hope against the disruption that Jolene represents. Beyoncé gets a boost from her husband’s help, this is communicated via an African American call and response motif where they express to Jolene their commitment to each other.

Beyoncé’s Jolene is introduced by Dolly Parton herself in a short interlude. Parton makes a clear association between her experience with Jolene and Beyoncé’s experience with “Becky with the good hair” (or “hussy” as Parton says).

In African American language, a “Becky” is a white woman . But the term has evolved to encompass racially ambiguous women with European or Asian features, lighter skin and loose curls or straight hair. The Becky in Jolene recalls the woman referenced in Sorry, a track on the Lemonade album, where Beyoncé identifies a woman her husband is cheating with.

Beyoncé employs a lot of what linguistics academic Alexis McGee terms African American women’s language (AAWL) , or culturally familiar terms to Black southern women. “You’re a bird” (a shallow, temporary romantic interest), “you don’t want no heat with me”, “you don’t want this smoke”, and “I hate to have to act a fool”, among others. The entire song is rooted in AAWL.

Where Parton pleads, Beyoncé warns. Where Parton plies with charm, Beyoncé employs grit.

The concept of a femininity where “good” is predicated on charm, vulnerability and purity, and “bad” is aggressive, manipulative and sexually autonomous is a limited, binary one constructed by white patriarchy. It is a concept against which Black women can never measure up because we aren’t supposed to.

Instead, Beyoncé explores the multitudes of her Black identity and her Black southern femininity. She asserts that she is both a “queen” and a “Creole Banjee bitch from Louisianna”. Her roles as mother, partner, protector and head of the family unit are all noted in the song.

The original song speaks to a young woman compelled to save her husband from his own betrayal. Parton leaves her man blameless for his infatuation with the fiery-haired Jolene (even though he murmurs about her in his sleep).

Beyoncé on the other hand is performing the Black, southern femininity of a woman in her 40s who has already experienced the betrayal of infidelity, and this time her husband stands with her to ward off the other woman’s uninvited advances (“I’ma stand by her, she gon’ stand by me”). The bridge of the song calls back to a marriage that has processed the pain of infidelity and is rooted in their renewed commitment (“‘cause you can’t dig up our planted seeds”)

The threat of infidelity is the same, but how the two women negotiate it is a reflection of their age, race and experiences of womanhood. Why would we expect the song to be the same when these two women are far from?
