By Jenny Mensah

The Dance Fever outfit will now play their live dates in January and February after Florence Welch sustained a foot injury. Get the full dates here.

Listen to this article

Florence + The Machine have announced their newly rescheduled UK dates for 2023.

The band were forced to cut short their string of live shows earlier this month when Florence Welch had an X-Ray and realised she was dancing on a broken foot.

Now, the band have taken to social media to share new dates, with Welch writing: "Thank you so much for everyone’s kindness and understanding. See you very soon. F"

She added in the comments: "All bookings for the original dates remain valid for the rescheduled shows. If unfortunately you are unable to attend for any reason a refund is available from your point of purchase."

  • Saturday 28th January 2023: The O2, London
  • Sunday 29th January 2023: Birmingham Resorts World Arena (Venue change)
  • Tuesday 31st January 2023: Nottingham Motorpoint Arena

Taking to Instagram to announce the bad news after their gig at The O2 London 18th November, the King singer wrote: "I’m so sorry to say that after an X ray it seems I was dancing on a broken foot last night.

"It is not in my nature to postpone a show, and certainly not a UK tour, but I’m in pain and as dancers know, dancing on an injury is not a good idea. And have been told not to perform to avoid further damage."

Florence + The Machine have shared details for a five-date Australia and New Zealand tour, taking their upcoming Dance Fever album Down Under in the first quarter of 2023.

The run will start in Perth on Saturday March 4, when Florence Welch and co. take to the stage at the RAC Arena. They’ll head to Melbourne next, playing Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday March 8, before jetting up to Sydney for a gig at Qudos Bank Arena the following Monday, March 13.

The last Australian show will go down at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre that Friday, March 17, with a sole NZ gig penciled in for Tuesday March 21 at Auckland’s Spark Arena.

‘little broken hearts’: how norah jones turned hurt into art.

Joining the group for all five dates will be indie-pop star King Princess, who is currently hard at work on the follow-up to her 2019 debut, Cheap Queen . That record, tentatively titled ‘Hold On Baby’, is due for release later this year, with the recent singles “Little Brother” and “For My Friends” expected to appear on it.

Tickets for all five dates of the tour go on sale at 11am local time this Friday. There will be a presale for members of Frontier Touring’s mailing list, running from 11am on Wednesday, May 4.

Florence + The Machine - Free

Florence + The Machine’s new album, Dance Fever is due out on May 13 via Polydor. Announced back in March – and described by Welch as sounding like their 2009 debut ‘Lungs’ with “more self-knowledge” – the band have shared four singles from it thus far: “King”, “Heaven Is Here”, “My Love” and “Free”.

Last month, Welch opened up about the creation of Dance Fever , saying: “I had this drive underneath me and I was like if these songs want to get out, I have to get them out fast, because I do have other desires. The thing I’ve always been sure of is my work, but I do start to feel this shifting of priorities, this sense of like…maybe I want something different.”

The band debuted tracks from the album live in Newcastle last month, performing a series of new cuts including the unreleased “Girls Against God”. They’ll embark on an arena tour of the UK and Europe later this year, taking in 11 shows between Paris and Dublin this November.

Florence + The Machine’s 2023 Australian and New Zealand tour dates are:

Saturday, March 4 – Perth, RAC Arena Wednesday, March 8 – Melbourne, Rod Laver Arena Monday, March 13 – Sydney, Qudos Bank Arena Friday, March 17 – Brisbane, Entertainment Centre Tuesday, March 21 – Auckland, Spark Arena.

Florence + The Machine to play ‘Lungs’ in full at orchestral London show

The band will make their BBC Proms debut at their only UK gig of 2024

Florence + The Machine performing live on stage in 2009

Florence + The Machine are set to play their debut album ‘Lungs’ in full at a special orchestral show in London – find all the details below.

The band will make their BBC Proms debut at the historic Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday September 11, marking Florence Welch and co’s only UK date of the year.

Welch announced the concert in a new interview with British Vogue . “When [the invitation] came in, they were like, ‘We know you’re off, but would you…?’ and I was like, ‘Yes!’,” she told the publication.

The outlet noted that the frontwoman was “currently on the hunt for old medieval English instruments” for the upcoming gig, which is dubbed ‘Florence + The Machine – Symphony Of Lungs’.

“I’m so honoured,” Welch continued. “The background to life in my house is classical music, and especially the more obscure things. So it’s a really exciting thing to be asked to do – the Proms is just so special.”

Released in 2009, the BRIT Award -winning ‘Lungs’ features the singles ‘Dog Days Are Over’, ‘Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)’, ‘Cosmic Love’ and ‘You’ve Got The Love’.

But Welch explained that was she keen to revisit the more “swampy, south London, guitar-y” cuts from the record. “‘Girl With One Eye’ and ‘My Boy Builds Coffins’ and ‘Kiss With A Fist’,” she said. “It’s actually the ones you’d think wouldn’t work orchestrally that I’m interested to figure out.”

A listing on the Royal Albert Hall website reads : “For her Proms debut, [Welch] joins Jules Buckley and his Orchestra for a celebration of ‘Lungs’, and of the compelling poetry and music of this singular artist in whom the darkly gothic meets all that glistens.”

Tickets go on sale at 9am BST on Saturday May 18 – you’ll be able to buy yours here . They are priced between £26 and £80 (plus booking fee). Visit here for more booking information .

The concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and recorded for a future airing on BBC Radio 1. It’ll also be shown on BBC Two and be available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Welch said that looking back on ‘Lungs’ 15 years on was “a bit like reading an old diary” of a “messy, chaotic period of time”.

She added: “I think it’s just that psychological thing of knowing when Florence and the Machine was starting to pick up the pace. To be able to go back and revisit it from a more established place… it’s sort of healing, in a way.”

Florence + The Machine released their fifth and most recent album, ‘Dance Fever’ , in 2022. Shortly before it arrived, Welch explained that the record sounded like “‘Lungs’ with more self-knowledge” .

In other news, the singer has collaborated with Taylor Swift on a song called ‘Florida!!!’ from the latter’s new album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ .

Taylor Swift fans find clues tied to Florida ahead of ‘The Tortured Poet’s Department’ release

Taylor Swift is beloved by her devoted clan of fans for many reasons other than just her music. Miss Americana is known and loved by her fans for the smart clues she leaves in her outfits, music videos , Instagram posts and even nail polish colors.

These clues, or Easter eggs, point to what the pop star might be working on or planning to do next.

And with a new Taylor Swift album on the way this weekend, Swift's social media accounts have been active and have her fans hunting for Easter eggs.

One recent theory places the spotlight on Florida .

Here's a quick guide to how Swift drops Easter eggs for her projects and why Swifties think Florida might be the epicenter of her next big announcement, whatever that may be.

First, what are 'Easter eggs' and why is Taylor Swift associated with them?

What if we told you she's a Mastermind? But seriously, Swift is known for hiding well-placed clues in her songs, promotional messages and even her outfits and nail polish, for fans to uncover and guess what she could be doing next.

Taylor herself told The Washington Post in 2022, "When I was 15 and putting together my first album, I decided to encode the lyrics with hidden messages using capital letters. That's how it started, and my fans and I have since descended into color coding, numerology, word searches, elaborate hints, and Easter eggs."

Here are some examples of her best Easter eggs:

  • 13 - As her lucky number (born on Dec. 13, 1989), you'll not only spot it in music videos or in her posts but fans have found 13-second intros at the start of her songs or 13 capitalized letters in an Instagram post that lead to a larger clue.
  • Snakes - Fueled by Kim Kardashian calling her a "snake," Swift has included the imagery for her Reputation album and used the symbol when hinting at her past feuds.
  • "Nils Sjoberg" - In the "Look What You Made Me Do" music video, she is next a grave of Nils Sjoberg. It's the fake name Taylor used while working on ex Calvin Harris and Rihanna's song, "This Is What You Came For."
  • "Not a lot going on at the moment" - Her post in April 2020 seemed to poke fun at the pandemic at the time but really, she was working on two of her albums "Folklore" and "Evermore," which released later that year.
  • The Summer I Turned Pretty - Did you know she actually announced her album "Midnights" way before the MTV Music Awards? In a post about Amazon Prime's The Summer I Turned Pretty using her new song, she specifically says it will come out at "m i d n i g h t."

Why do fans think Taylor Swift is leaving hints about Florida before album release?

There was a globe set up at a Spotify event for Taylor's new album and this TikTok creator (@swiftiesweetheart) pointed out that there was a pin in the globe, placed on Florida.

"I think this globe just revealed everything..." she said in the TikTok video.

She pointed out that there is a song on the track list for Taylor's new album titled "Florida!!!" Taylor is also known for playing around with numbers and fake error codes on her website. On the night that she announced her new album at the Grammys, her website went black and had an error code up that read "Error 321 backend fetch failed."

There was also a massive QR code put up in Chicago, as promotion for her album, that led anyone who scanned it to another "Error 321" message in the form of a short video on Taylor's YouTube account.

This creator and some other Swifties are theorizing that the "321" sequence could be a nod to a Florida area code, as it's an area code for the Orlando area.

Think this is a stretch? It's probably one of the most simple Swiftie theories yet.

What is 'The Tortured Poet's Department' song 'Florida!!!' about?

While there’s no confirmation on what “Florida!!!” is about, fans have taken to social media with their theories.

Fans theorize that "Florida!!!" is about her Eras Tour shows at Raymond James Stadium from April 13 to 15, 2023 — which would have been when details of Swift and Joe Alwyn, her boyfriend of six years, break up were made public, according to  People .

Since the track list was revealed, fans looked back at moments from the Tampa shows and noticed the popstar seemed upset when performing songs about her past relationship.

Who is 'Florence + the Machine' featuring on 'Florida!!!' track?

Florence Welch is the powerhouse lead vocalist for the English indie rock band "Florence + the Machine." Welch is known for several hits over the past decade, such as 2009's "Dog Days are Over," 2011's "Shake it Out" and 2015's "Sweet Nothings" collaboration with Calvin Harris.

"Florida!!!" is the first time Swift and Welch have collaborated on a song together.

‘Tortured Poet’s Department’ almost here Here’s where Florida Swifties can find it

When does 'The Tortured Poets Department' come out? When can I stream Taylor Swift's new album?

After receiving her 13th Grammy, Swift announced her new album  “Tortured Poets Department”  would come out Friday, April 19.

The album also will be available to stream on most streaming platform, such as  Apple Music and Spotify , on that date.

Taylor Swift's collab with Florence + The Machine 'Florida!!!' is 'one hell of a drug'

will florence and the machine tour in 2023

The only song in Taylor Swift's discography to include three exclamation points, "Florida!!!" is one of two collaborations on "The Tortured Poets Department.”

Swift teams up with Florence + The Machine for Track 8. Swift's dad, Scott, told fans in Florida, the song about the state was his favorite off the album. Cue the drums, bum-bum-bum-bum-bum.

“Florida!!!” is “one hell of a drug.”

The suspense-filled track builds in the verse until the chorus punches like an exclamation point (or three) bursting from the drums. The song mentions a timeshare in Destin, a northwest city located near Pensacola on the panhandle tip of the state. The area is known as a tourist destination because of Gulf of Mexico beaches, golf courses and resorts.

Although it seems like a retreat, the song wraps the sunny paradise in looming darkness tissue paper and stuffs it in a hurricane-sized bag. Welch sings about hoping a natural disaster will come and wash her away. “Barricaded in the bathroom with a bottle of wine. Well, me and my ghosts, we had a hell of a time.”

'Tortured Poets' release live updates: What to know as Taylor Swift's new album debuts

'The Tortured Poets Department'

If you didn't get the memo from the department's Chairman, "Tortured Poets" is Swift's 11th era album with 16 tracks and four bonus songs (four versions of the album each have a different bonus track).

Swift announced the project at the Grammys, when she won her 13th career Grammy for pop album of the year. Post Malone and Florence and The Machine  are two contributors on the pop album.

Its track titles are brutal. Fans speculated the album was about Swift’s six-year relationship with English actor Joe Alwyn and their breakup. Both stars kept the relationship out of the public eye. The back of the first version of the album reads, “I love you, it’s ruining me,” serving as a dagger-to-the-chest harbinger.

The album was released during Swift's two-month break from her massively popular and economically fruitful Eras Tour . "Tortured Poets" serves as an exclamation point to the behemoth success the billionaire has seen over the past year since the three-plus-hour show launched in Glendale, Arizona. Swift will return to the stage in Paris, France, on May 9. Fans anticipate that her newest era will be added to the show.

Florence and the Machine's Florence Welch 'Had a Hell of a Time' Working on 'Florida!!!' with Taylor Swift

Welch appeared on a B-Side track titled "Florida!!!" on Taylor Swift's brand-new album 'The Tortured Poets Department'

Florence and the Machine's Florence Welch is celebrating the release of The Tortured Poets Department .

On Friday, April 19, the "Dog Days Are Over" artist, 37, celebrated the release of Taylor Swift's newest album with a post on social media.

Reflecting on her collaboration with the pop megastar on their track "Florida!!!" on the 16-song album, the Florence and the Machine frontwoman wrote on Instagram : "Me and my ghosts we had a hell of a time 🖤 @taylorswift Honoured to be in this department."

Alongside it, she shared a written note with letterhead that said "Florence Welch Department of Hurricanes and Haunted Lace Florida" with what appears to be a backdrop of a body of water and trees with a moving image of lyrics from the song."

On the track, Welch and Swift sing about the devastation of a breakup and making plans to relocate to Florida and start anew.

"I need to forget, so take me to Florida / I've got some regrets, I'll bury them in Florida / Tell me I'm despicable, say it's unforgivable / At least the dolls are beautiful, f--- me up, Florida," the duo sing on the track.

The pair are longtime friends — they have a mutual friend in Blake Lively and have been spotted hanging out many times — but this marks the first occasion that they've collaborated on a musical project.

In 2015, Swift sang the "Dog Days Are Over" singer's praises to Billboard , giving the outlet a quote about her musical prowess in a profile.

“What sets Florence apart? Everything,” Swift told Billboard at the time. “Every time I’ve been around her, she is the most magnetic person in the room — surrounded by people who are fascinated by the idea of being near her. But when she meets people, she pays them a warm compliment and immediately disarms them. There are very few people I’ve met in my life who are truly electric, and Florence is one of them.”

“She’s the most fun person to dance with at a party, but then five minutes later you find yourself sitting on the stairs with her having an in-depth conversation about love and heartbreak,” Swift continued.

In the same interview, Welch said that that Swift had helped her to become more comfortable putting her own life experiences into her music.

“Taylor said that you must sing about what’s happening in your life.” Welch said.

Swift first made the surprise announcement that  she was releasing her eleventh studio album during her acceptance speech for best pop vocal album for  Midnights  at the 2024  Grammy Awards  (which also  marked her 13th Grammy award , famously her lucky number).

During the speech, she thanked her fans for their support of her 10th album,  Midnights , and said she wanted to repay them by telling them a secret she’s been keeping for two years: the details of her brand-new album.

The day after the album's announcement,  Swift unveiled the official tracklist for the album . Side A includes “Fortnight," featuring Post Malone, “The Tortured Poets Department,” “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys,” and “Down Bad.” The songs on Side B are “So Long, London,” “But Daddy I Love Him” and “Fresh Out the Slammer.”

The Tortured Poets Department is out now.

Sam Smith to headline BBC Proms as bosses insist show will be ‘appropriate’

BBC Proms bosses have insisted that the show will be “entirely appropriate” after popstar Sam Smith was announced as a headliner for the classical music festival.

Sam Jackson, the Radio 3 and BBC Proms controller, has addressed concerns about whether the popstar’s performance would be suitable for the orchestral concert series.

Smith, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, is often criticised by conservative voices for their artistic and sexual expression. Last year, Smith faced backlash for the music video for their hit song “I’m Not Here to Make Friends”, with some labelling it as “pornographic”.

Jackson said: “We have worked very hard with Sam Smith and their management to see how we can create something authentically Proms, and the look and feel will be entirely appropriate for the audience in attendance.

Outgoing Proms director David Pickard , who previously programmed rapper Stormzy and dedicated a Prom to the 1960s pop star Scott Walker, said: “Popular music has always been part of the Proms. All these artists, when they are offered the opportunity to come to us at the Proms, know what they are buying into.”

Pickard reiterated that the Proms is not “another trip after Glastonbury” for pop acts invited to perform.

“This is something very special and we’re excited about the idea of opening up a different type of music to the Proms, but actually retaining the sense that this is an orchestral festival.

“And hopefully it will bring in the sort of audience that might not necessarily come to the Proms but now feel very welcome.”

Smith will be performing their 2014 debut album, In the Lonely Hour , which won four Grammys and features their acclaimed song “Stay With Me”.

Florence Welch of the indie pop band Florence + The Machine will be joining Smith as another headliner. Welch will perform her Brit Award-winning 2009 album Lungs alongside Grammy-winning composer Jules Buckley and his orchestra.

Smith will perform on 2 August and Welch will follow on 11 September.

The programme will also see Grammy award-nominated multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer Jordan Rakei collaborate with the Royal Northern Sinfonia and Robert Ames to present tracks from his new album The Loop as well as music titles from his back catalogue.

The opening night will take place on 19 July, with Hong Kong-born conductor Elim Chan leading the BBC Symphony Orchestra in performances of Beethoven’s “Symphony No 5” and Handel’s “Music for the Royal Fireworks”.

Other star soloists will include pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason and her brother, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and American cellist Yo-Yo Ma, percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie, acclaimed violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja and South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim.

The Proms, which has been running since 1927, also features a selection of family events and concerts for children including a new Doctor Who Prom and a CBeebies Prom.

The programme will run from 19 July until 14 September and will feature 90 concerts in total – 73 taking place at the home of the festival, London’s Royal Albert Hall and 17 hosted at venues across the UK.

BBC Proms general booking opens on 18 May.
