This full-day tour is full of magical sightseeing, neighborhood hopping, jaw-dropping landmarks, and a wealth of knowledge from your guides!   We will start the intimate small group tour with a drive up the famous mountain of Montjuic, which offers excellent views over the city as well as the main site of the 1992 Olympic games.   After a brief stop at the terrasse of the Cataluña National Art Museum (MNAC), we will make our way down to Placa Espanya. Make sure you look out the window to observe the stunning Modernist buildings of the Eixample area.   As we make our way to the famous Sagrada Familia, you will first be enamored by Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona’s most expensive boulevard and the setting of two of Barcelona’s most talked about Gaudi buildings: La Pedrera and Casa Batllo.   Before arriving at the Sagrada Família, we will stop at the Hospital de Sant pau I de Santes Creus, built between 1901 and 1930. Tucked away from the tourist route, this hospital has been declared a ‘UNESCO World Heritage Site’ and is one of the greatest symbols of Modernist Architecture in Barcelona.   Finally, we will arrive at Sagrada Família, stopping there for a guided visit inside the basilica. Our Skip the Line policy means there will be NO QUEUES! For many, this is the highlight of their Barcelona experience, as the popularity of this city equates to large queues for most of the major sites.

Next, we will make our way to the oldest part of Barcelona, the Barrio Gotico. This wonderful district was still surrounded by medieval walls until the end of the 19th century.    We will hop off the bus and enjoy a stroll through the narrow winding streets of the historic heart of Barcelona.   At the start of our short walk through the historic streets of Barcelona, we will stop for a brief tour of one of Barcelona’s most traditional indoor food markets: Mercat de Santa Caterina.   From there, we will travel back in time, going from the Roman era through to the early Middle Ages, when the Catalan counts were controlling the Mediterranean Sea and Barcelona was the capital of an empire.   Included in this part of the tour is also a visit to the Jewish Quarter, the Royal Palace, the original 2000-year-old Roman Temple, and parts of the Cathedral.   Before our lunch break, we are off to the Born district where the guide will point out a variety of restaurants and tapas bars suitable for lunch before ending the tour in the magnificent Santa Maria del Mar church – one of the most beautiful in Barcelona. 

Your guide will happily provide you with suggestions for tapas, cafes, and restaurants and ensure your taste buds are happy with whatever you may be craving. Once your stomach is full, it is time to make our way to the famous Park Güell, a city garden designed by Anton Gaudi. Our guide will lead the group down through the park explaining the tantalizing garden concept and introducing you to some of Gaudí’s most bizarre creations.    Next, the bus will take us through the traditional Catalan neighborhood of Gracia, a lovely part of the city with a bohemian vibe.    We will stop at one of the most famous Gaudi buildings of all: La Pedrera. We will have an hour here to explore the monument. Thanks to our Skip the Line policy there will be no waiting in the queues!   After the visit, our tour will end here at around 4 pm. There is the Diagonal metro stop (L4 & L5) just in front of the building.  Still, have energy? Many travelers usually prefer to stroll down the impressive boulevard of Passeig de Gracia towards Placa Cataluña.

Next, we will take you to the sea. Here you will see firsthand the intense infrastructural changes the city underwent in organising and facilitating the Olympic Games in 1992.   You will drive by the Arc of the Triomf, Ciutadella Park, the Olympic Village, and the Olympic Port. These are all beautiful and fascinating sites that are packed with historical significance.   Included in this drive is also the fisherman’s quarter, called Barceloneta. This charming neighborhood is nestled next to the sea and has its own unique vibe. 

A short drive from Barceloneta is the Port Vell, Plaza (square) de Colon with its famous Columbus monument, indicating which way he sailed to discover the Americas.   The monument is also the beginning of the famous Ramblas of Barcelona. This visit continues with a drive up Montjuic Mountain, where we will make a short stop in Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys.   The climb continues up to Montjuic Castle, where you will enjoy a cable car ride offering panoramic views of the city.    The bus will pick you up at the last station and we will continue our Montjuic visit passing by the sports facilities built for the 1992 Olympic Games: the Lluis Companys stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi, the Olympic swimming pool Picornell until we get to the Spanish Village.   We will visit this charming place where you will admire a collection of traditional buildings from all over Spain and a demonstration of the handcrafts made in this country.   After the visit to the Spanish village, we have completed the tour of Montjuic Mountain; it is time to head over to the city center.    As in all travels through Barcelona, the drive back to the city center provides stunning views of landmarks and architecture. Admire the Venetian Towers, the Montjuic fountains, the MNAC, and the CC, “Las Arenas” rebuilt over the ancient “Plaza de Toros” (bullrings).   Our destination is Plaza de Cataluña, the starting point of the guided walking tour of the old city center.   An experienced professional guide will take you to the Ramblas, Cathedral Square, through the narrow street of the Gothic quarter, and to Plaza Sant Jaume where the City Hall is located as well as the headquarters of the Catalonian government.

Our tour finishes at the Plaza de Cataluña, in front of the Hard Rock Café (where you will have lunch if this option is chosen). This location is ten minutes from our office on foot. After a delectable and mouth-watering lunch, check in at Balmes 5 at 15:15. The second part of the tour will start at 15:30.

As you look past the Columbus Statue, you will see the beginning of Las Ramblas, a famous street in Barcelona. 

We will continue the visit as we climb up Montjuic where we will make a short stop in Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys. After observing the stadium, we will admire the Montjuic Castle. Get ready to glide in a cable car on the way down as you gaze out at the panoramic views.

You will go up to Montserrat with the Cog-Wheel Train. This will drop you in the middle of the Monastery. It is a 15-minute trip with a privileged and spectacular view of the mountain. 

The train has panoramic windows, making the actual journey a delight for the senses. The train is air-conditioned as well as wheelchair-friendly.

You will visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous 12th-century Romanesque carving of Verge Moreneta (the Black Madonna). This famous statue of the Black Madonna is visible from a distance. 

The Benedict Sanctuary of Montserrat was founded in 1025 and provides a mystical backdrop for the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia, who is enshrined in the monastery’s Royal Basilica.

The little monastery soon began to receive pilgrims and visitors who spread the word of the miracles and wonders performed by the Virgin. Word of mouth led to more and more pilgrims visiting Montserrat.

Today, Montserrat has been modernized to continue attending to the needs of pilgrims, one thousand years after it was originally founded.

You will be given free time to visit the audiovisual exhibition about the history and creation of Montserrat and taste typical liquors of Montserrat, handmade by the monks of the monastery (both activities are included).

• Please be aware that some walking is included during this tour; we recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes.
• You have approximately 1 hr 15 min of free time for lunch (from April to October) and 45 min (from November to March) between both parts of the excursions. Lunch is not included.
• A correct dress code is requested to enter the Basilica at Montserrat. It is not permitted to enter with tank tops, strapless shirts, short shorts, or sandals.
• At Montserrat, there is a mountainous climate, depending on the season you will need clothes protecting you from the rain and/or cold.

While Barcelona has a warm, balmy climate it is still adjacent to the sea, which means weather can sometimes be unpredictable. When it does rain, it rains in full tropical style. Although it is unlikely, we recommend having a layer or two just in case. If it is the summer, you have much less to worry about. 

If you are doing a tour that includes Montserrat Mountain, definitely bring layers regardless of the season. The weather on the mountain tends to change swiftly. 

Wear sunscreen! The sun in Barcelona is strong. Even if you are enjoying a lovely sea breeze, the sun can still burn your skin. It is best to be cautious and not battle a painful sunburn!

Wear comfortable shoes. Barcelona is an old city full of charming cobblestone streets and lovely historic districts. Comfortable shoes are essential for the walking tours offered on this list. On the Montserrat tour, you will be walking on a mountain. Sneakers are a great choice.

• A sturdy pair of walking shoes or sneakers is recommended for sightseeing.

• It is preferable not to visit churches or other religious sites with bare legs and shoulders (and entrance may be denied on this basis).
• At least 60 days prior to departure, check with your doctor or healthcare provider for the latest updates and entry requirements, or visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website at cdc.gov .
• If you have medication that you take daily, be sure you have enough for each day of the tour as well as any possible delays encountered.

• In Spain, breakfast like a local with just a pastry and coffee. Then, tuck into a three-course lunch featuring a Spanish staple like savory seafood paella or grilled meat and fried potatoes. Dinner is less hearty than lunch and is served late, between 9pm and midnight. Snack on small plates called tapas any time of day.
• Catalan cuisine, which can be found in Barcelona, is markedly different from food in other parts of Spain. Nearly every restaurant will offer pa amb tomàquet —toasted bread with tomato and olive oil. Fresh seafood, hearty meat dishes, cheeses, and locally grown vegetables, such as mushrooms, are culinary mainstays.
• Spain operates on the European standard 220-240 volts and uses Types C, E, or F plugs with two small, round pins.
• We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other device without a built-in converter.
• The strength of the air conditioning in European hotels is often not as strong or as cool as what you might be used to in the U.S. or Canada. When air conditioning is available, it is usually regulated seasonally and controlled centrally by the hotel.
• Your hotels may provide hairdryers, irons, and other small appliances. However, these amenities cannot be guaranteed.
• Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, though some charges may apply.
• There is no Wi-Fi on any of the motor coaches.
• Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.
• Spain is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and six hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).
• When it’s noon in New York, it’s 6pm on tour.
• You will use the euro on this tour.
• Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
• We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.
• You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
• Inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
• International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
• At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity in local currency. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.
• We recommend tipping the equivalent of $10USD to $12USD per person per day for your Tour Director and the equivalent of $3USD per person per day for your driver.
• If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD per local guide.
• Tips can only be paid in cash.
• Most optional excursions will be available for purchase while you are on tour.
• Your Tour Director will only accept cash (in USD only), Visa, or MasterCard as payment for excursions.
• Please be advised that if you pay for an excursion by credit card while on tour, it may take up to three months for your card to be charged.

In class, our teacher introduced us to the beautiful city of Barcelona and watched a video about Barcelona's scenic architecture, tourism and culture. Through the video, I learned that Barcelona is a world-renowned Mediterranean scenic tourist destination and a world-renowned historical and cultural city. I also saw that it is the most famous tourist destination in Spain, with its pleasant climate, beautiful scenery and monuments, as well as the "Pearl of the Iberian Peninsula". Everything there is artistic, the graffiti on the streets, the street food, the magnificent Romanesque buildings, and so on. Even the people of Barcelona say that "art and life are inseparable". We had a great 2 week vacation in Spain but on our last night in Barcelona, we panicked when we realized that we left our luggage in the trunk of the taxi. Somehow I knew that the cab driver was a good man but we still prayed fervently that he will bring us back our luggage. ABDEL came back in 40 minutes!!! Hi, to everyone coming to barcelona must keep in mind that barcelona is very safe city. means there is no chance of armed robbery or snatching. but to be honest pick pockiting is a common issue for those who come out of the bars really drunk and lost and it is always up to you to take care of your belongings especially in central area and las ramblas. in subways again u have such issues because pickpockets move on groups, they don't attack on you but always look for a chance to steel. A little care and nothing happens. I m living in barcelona since 2004 and I never get robbed.

Hi, I just came back from a 6 days holiday in Barcelona 2 weeks ago. I am a 29 years old solo female traveller from Singapore. I agree that pickpocket is an issue in Barcelona. however, I would also like to add on that this is also an issue in many other countries, not just Barcelona alone. I was pretty scared at first but I did not let it stop me from going there. Barcelona is a very beautiful city with interesting cultures and delicious food. It is very convenient to explore as you can literally walk anywhere without getting lost. Just bring common sense along and carry your bag in front of you at all times. Do not bring too much cash and keep the cash separately. I did not face any problems or seen any crimes there. I can say Barcelona is a pretty safe city, and I am going back again in February 2015.

Hi, Pickpockets are an issue in Barcelona, but the police, as Tony suggested, are part of the problem. It is actually the Spanish Laws that need to be changed. Unless a thief is caught with more than €480 in cash on them, it is not consider a felony or major crime. So, within a matter of hours the thief is back on the streets. There are lots of uncover policeman now working all parts of the city, security cameras in Metro stations and on platforms and in particular a strong police presence at the most visited sites. It is Barcelona's interest to clean up this issue and there is no one who would like that more than the locals. After all, tourism is one of the biggest economic motors of this beautiful seaside city.

It's a shame it's so corrupt ! 40 years ago, I went to Barcelona & was warned about pickpockets on Las Ramblas & now after all these years it's worse than ever, not good for the city's reputation. How can this problem still exist ?? the police MUST be part of the problem, & getting a kickback from the thieves, because if they wanted the thefts to stop, they would crack down & stop, but no, the pickpockets flourish year after year, praying on tourists & locals alike, on the streets & even in the Gaudi Cathedral Shame on you.....Clean up the problem !!

Hello, We have just returned home from a evening with 'Papa Serra'. He runs cooking classes and tours of la boqueria and we joined an evening course which lasted for about 4 hours - a great evening activity. We enjoyed the tour and the class, and all the wine tasting! But the highlight was a tapa we learnt to make - chicken poached in a saffron liquid and then mixed with pine nuts and raisins and wrapped in greens. It was absolutely delicious and definitely not something we've seen in any of the tapas bars in barcelona. I would recommend the classes to anyone that loves food and wants a fun night of cooking, eating and drinking. I think they have a website but i'm not sure. Enjoy!
