Jeff Brown has announced he is leaving Look North after 21 years on the much watched North East new show.

A well known face to everyone in the region, Jeff has been a hugely popular member of the team for the last two decades, with sport his speciality, but him also helping to front the bulletins on a regular basis. Jeff's prowess as a sport anchor recently saw him nominated for a Royal Television Society award , for Best Sport, an accolade he won in 2022.

It was Jeff himself who broke the news that he was leaving Look North, taking to X on Thursday lunchtime to write; "News just in…after nearly 21yrs with BBC Look North ⁦ @BBCLN I’m moving on. Projects in the pipeline with BBC & others, but (as you can see) it’s been fun, and a huge, wonderful part of my life. Thanks for watching."

It didn't take long for responses to come flooding in for Jeff's announcement, with former Chronicle Live NUFC editor Mark Douglas writing: "Wow, end of an era! Good luck for the future Jeff. Hopefully see you around" and fellow journalist Daniel Wales telling him: "Best of luck, Jeff. It’s been a pleasure to chat to you at SAFC pressers! You’ll be a real miss from our screens!"

Many longstanding Look North viewers were also quickly to reply, with one commenting: "Good luck for the future Jeff - my evening meal won’t be the same!!" and another posting: "Sorry to hear you're going Jeff but I know you'll have a load of projects on the way. 21 years is a heck of a run and you're Mr Look North! Thanks so much for everything"

In a statement released by the BBC, Jeff, who is set to undertake new onscreen projects at the BBC and elsewhere. said: ""Presenting BBC Look North - filling the seat once occupied by the great Mike Neville - has been the undoubted highlight of my career, something I could never have imagined when I set out as a journalist.

“It has been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to work with such talented and dedicated teams over the years, and I’m proud to count them as my friends. I’m also truly grateful to the many people and organisations across the North East and Cumbria who have allowed me to tell their stories, and to be welcomed into hundreds of thousands of homes every night."

He added: "Sport has always been my passion – whatever colour the team is wearing, or the shape of the ball! I hope I’ve been able to reflect the depth of feeling fans have for their teams, because in that respect our region is unique”.

Solar eclipse 2024: Photos from the path of totality and elsewhere in the U.S.

Images show the Great American Eclipse, seen by tens of millions of people in parts of Mexico, 15 U.S. states and eastern Canada for the first time since 2017.

Millions gathered across North America on Monday to bask in the glory of the Great American Eclipse — the moment when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun.

The path of totality measures more than 100 miles wide and will first be visible on Mexico’s Pacific coast before moving northeast through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois and upward toward New York, New Hampshire and Maine, then on to Canada.

Total solar eclipse 2024 highlights: Live coverage, videos and more

During the cosmic spectacle, the moon’s movements will temporarily block the sun’s light, creating minutes of darkness, and will make the sun's outer atmosphere, or the corona, visible as a glowing halo.

Here are moments of the celestial activities across the country:
