SAFETY FIRST

Safety has always been our priority, not only for guests, but for the communities we travel through, since our first Rally back in 1998. Prevention is always the best tactic when it comes down to it, and we are experts in minimising risk, without compromising the authenticity of adventure. You want an adventure, not a holiday right?

image description

Locally Owned

Cambodia Expeditions is a wholly Khmer owned, and family run business. With just one westerner on the team (a long-term permanent resident of Cambodia - also married to the boss) all of our revenue stays, and gets spent here in Cambodia.

image description

Tailor Made Adventure

If you prefer a tailor-made adventure then you've found the right family! We've been providing tailored adventures for individuals, families, and small to large groups (as well as handling logistics for international operators you've probably heard of) for over 20 years, so we are experts in building adventures that surpass our guests expectations.

image description

No GPS? No problem!

We are your Cambodia experts, it's the only destination we operate in. We are in-country ground operators, and after 20 years of adventure here, we know our guides know the country better than anyone (or anything else). We don't mess about with unnecessary GPS tracking apps, as we know where our guests are. And besides, if you do get lost, isn't that part of a true adventure?

image description

Ethical Pricing

Our prices may be higher than some of our peers, mainly because our inclusions and quality are the most comprehensive, we do not exploit our staff in renumeration, we run team heavy adventures, and our business model is not based on profit alone! We do also offer discounts to anyone who signs up for our Trip Saver Scheme, which also keeps you up-to-date with our adventures and news.

image description

Cultural Exchange

We never understaff our adventures, and we often overstaff them with local talent. This is to immerse you in authentic Cambodian culture, and to enrich your experience. We love learning about our guests lifestyle and culture, and we are happy to share ours with you.

image description

adventure done right

We've learnt the right way (by sometimes doing it all the wrong way) to build adventures that are unrivalled in authenticity and quality. Part of that experience is accepting that even the best laid plans can be challenged by the terrain and dynamics of Cambodia. We have become experts in contingency planning whilst enroute, and our guides and mechanics are the best in the business.

5 REASONS TO RIDE IN CAMBODIA

1. friendly locals.

Cambodia Motorcycle Adventures

Without a doubt one of our favourite things about Cambodia are the immensely friendly and welcoming locals. From the kids waving to us from the roadside, to the locals inviting us to their weddings, never a day goes by that we don’t feel extremely welcomed into their country. Their sense of humour is infectious and the simple experience of having a laugh and a joke with them in the villages will keep you smiling all day long!

Many of the locals in the countryside had never seen dirt bikes until motorbike tours came along! The excited children will run out to wave and when we stop for drinks and refreshments we’re always the centre of attention, dressed head to toe in strange motorbike riding kit!

2. INCREDIBLE HISTORY

Holiday in Cambodia

Sadly, when one thinks of Cambodia, one of the first subjects that springs to mind is that of the Khmer Rouge and the infamous Killing Fields. The Khmer Rouge was a Cambodian communist movement, which, led by Pol Pot, took control of Cambodia in 1975 and ruled for four years until they were overthrown in 1979 when the Vietnamese took control of Phnom Penh. During those four years, Cambodia was turned into a mass detention centre and roughly a quarter of the population lost their lives. Approximately 2-3 million innocent citizens died due to lack of access to medication, exhaustion, starvation and execution. It’s a brutal story and a very sobering experience to learn more about the history while visiting the Killing Fields or S21 Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh.

The ancient Angkorian temples are also mind-boggling. From the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat (the largest religious monument in the world), to the lesser known smaller temples still hidden in the jungle, the archaeological achievements of roughly one thousand years ago still stand tall today. It’s believed that the city of Angkor in Cambodia was once home to roughly one million people and was the largest city in the world! While Angkor Wat is undoubtedly the most impressive, we enjoy taking our motorbike tours in Cambodia to the more remote temples, still hidden away in the forests. To witness these ancient monuments with no other tourist sight and nothing but the sound of the jungle is quite a special experience.

3. UNIQUE & INTERESTING CULTURE

Tour of Cambodia

Cambodia has an incredibly rich culture, from the Apsara dancers to water festivals and street weddings that last for days. Steeped in tradition and old superstitions it’s an extremely interesting place to visit and learn about the locals’ beliefs and way of life.

The main religion of Cambodia is Buddhism which constitutes roughly 90% of the population and has existed since at least the 5th century AD. Barely will an hour go by when one doesn’t see a brightly dressed in orange monk going about his day.

4. AMAZING FOOD

Cambodia Motorbike Tours

Beef loklak (beef in a kind of peppery gravy), fish amok (a mild coconutty fish curry), fried pork & ginger and sticky ribs… the list goes on. The food in Cambodia is phenomenal and never fails to impress. The ingredients and flavours are typically Asian, yet unlike most of the Asian food you’ll be used to. It’s not like Thai food. It’s not like Vietnamese food, or Indian. It’s… well, it’s Cambodian.

The majority of the dishes are grilled over hot coals, or wok-fried using fresh ingredients and almost all dishes are served with rice. In fact, the literal translation of ‘Nyam Bai?’ (have you eaten?) is “Eat rice?”. They really love rice. Fried noodles are also very common and usually served with a fried egg on top.

The Khmer red chicken curry is always a crowd pleaser, but our no.1 recommendation would have to be the ‘Khmer Muslim Beef Curry’. The rich & fragrant sauce in this dish is like nothing you’ll have tried before. We’ve served this to countless riders on our Cambodian motorbike tours over the years and it’s impressed every single time!

Seafood is also plentiful and our tours will often pay a visit to a local seafood market at the ocean’s edge. It’s our favourite food market in Cambodia, where the locals wade out into the water to bring in crates of live crab. We then stop for lunch at a restaurant down the road where fried rice with mixed seafood and Kampot black pepper sauce is just incredible!

5. EPIC TRAIL RIDING!

Cambodia Dirt Bike Tours

Well we wouldn’t be running motorbike tours here if the riding wasn’t absolutely epic! River crossings, single track trails through jungles, steep rocky hill climbs, rickety bridges… Cambodia is home to some of the best in off-road riding in Asia and our tours bring you the perfect mix.

WHY CHOOSE RIDE EXPEDITIONS FOR YOUR CAMBODIA MOTORBIKE TOUR?

Since our start in 2005 Stray Dog Adventures has been the go to place for thrilling and unique on and off road adventures in Cambodia. Stray dog customers have had the pleasure of crossing the Caradamon and elephant mountain ranges, viewed beautiful white sandy beaches, visiting hill tribes and rural villages, coming across Angkorian ruins and riding the scenic National Parks all over Cambodia. In addition to our main passion ( getting dirty on motorbikes) we also provide a wide range of activities including but not limited to Moto skim boarding, 4x4 excursions, Trekking, Camping, Mountain biking.

We offer guided tours for all skill levels; from simple roads for beginners to technical single track for the more advanced motorcycle rider, and rental bikes for all dirt adventures. You can have a leisurely, scenic scooter ride or experience the "extreme" motorcycle ride of a lifetime. Take part in a breathtaking, one-of-a-kind experience that takes you to beautiful remote areas with very few people.

The ideal season to enjoy the riding tours and other outdoor activities is during the dry season ( from November to April ) However, it is in rainy season that you can experience much more of an adventure as you travel along dirt muddy roads and at this time of the year the landscape becomes so beautifully lush green.

The Stray Dog Crew

At Stray Dog Adventures we operate a fleet of Honda XR 250’s set up for off-roading and maintained to the highest standard. Other performance bikes such as Yamaha TTR 250cc, XR 400cc and XR 650cc are also available for rent.

HONDA XR250R

HONDA XR250L

HONDA XR400R

HONDA XR650 L

Honda crm250 ar.

YAMAHA TTR250R

weight: 100 kg

fuel capacity: 9,7 L

engine: air cooled, dry-sump, single-cylinder, four-stroke

info: the XR250R is a trail bike used for on- and off-road purposes. It is a four-stroke, SOHC, 249 cc bike. It is a very reliable, capable motorcycle off-road and does exceptionally well, PARIS DAKAR being one of the known rallies the bike has done exceptionally well in.

weight: 123 kg

info: this street version of the XR250R had road legal lights and tires, a metal fuel tank, keyed ignition/steering lock, plus other minor changes. Some 40 lbs heavier, it had reduced off-road ability. It shared the XR250R's RFVC 249 cc engine, but with a different carburetor and 3 mm smaller exhaust headers to meet emissions requirements.

weight: 121 kg

fuel capacity: 9,5 L

engine: air cooled, four-stroke, single cylinder SOHC, 4 valve

info: the XR 400R was Introduced in 1996. It had a similar frame, plastics and suspension components with the XR 250R, and had a similar air-cooled engine with RFVC technology. The xr400 had more suspension travel and a longer wheelbase. XR 400's were heavily modified and raced.

weight: 147 kg

fuel capacity: 10,7 L

engine: air cooled, four-stroke, single cylinder SOHC, 4 valve, dry-sump

info: the XR650L is a dual-sport motorcycle [...], part of the Honda XR series. It was released in 1992 as a 1993 model. It combines the RFVC engine from the proven NX650 Dominator dual sport with the lighter, off-road capable XR600R chassis, which is not road legal in the US. It has been produced virtually unchanged since 1993.

weight: 110 kg

fuel capacity: 14 L

engine: liquid cooled, two stroke, single cylinder

info: this is an outstanding example of an ideal off road motorcycle that is in its element when green lanning but at the same time is more than capable of competing in enduros. With its robust, faultless 250cc 2 stoke engine it struggles to frustrate its owner. The CRM could well be described along side a world war 2 tank. Its unbreakable framework and sturdy good quality parts means it can withstand most terains.

weight: 113 kg

fuel capacity: 12 L

engine: air-cooled, four stroke, single cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve per cylinder

info: the Yamaha TTR250 is a hardy wee beastie. As an undemanding, unfussy enduro bike for newer riders it excels, with a never-say-die single cylinder motor that has just enough pep for muddy fun. Now deleted from Yamaha’s range the Yamaha TT250R is still a sound used buy providing you don’t have to go too far on the tarmac.

At Stray Dog Adventures lots of equipments.

SAFETY GLASSES

Map of cambodia, full gear pack, skimboarding.

Moto skimboarding is skiming down the beach in only a few centimeters of water while being pulled along on a cord by a motorbike. It’s similar to wake boarding except your feet are not strapped in and the small waves are your wake.

4 X 4 Trips

Not a motorcycle rider! But would still like to experience the action? Our dirt tour routes can also be driven in the comfort of a 4x4 vehicle. This is great for partners, friends, children and other non-riders who want to travel with their motorcycle pals to see the amazing sites or for peoples who would like to explore Cambodian countryside and curiosities with the comforts of air conditioning, carrying your luggage/food and beverages. Choose a tour or take the off road route to your destination!

Ream and Bokor National Parks are options for a day of trekking, although it is not a very popular activity for visitors to Sihanoukville. Ream has some scenic trails of low elevation and several tour companies in Sihanoukville sell packaged tours that usually include a boat trip and some trekking in the park. From Koh Kong, the Cardamon Mountains offer adventure trekking through dense, virgin forest to beautiful, secluded waterfalls. Some of the larger islands like Koh Tonsay and Koh Rong Samloem also have nice areas to trek. There are lots of options for trekking and camping in Elephant Mountain, Caradamon Mountain, Kirirom National park and Araol Mountains. If clients are to carry their own bag it will be $60 a day per person. Porter will add a feather $30 per a day. Elephant Mountain Trek :( 2 days 1 night) At an elevation up to 1000m hike. Following the Tuk Chhawo rapids it’s a 35km trek up to the top of Bokor Mountain. We will camp near a Pagoda on the hill. Start and finish in Kampot. Caradamon Mountain Trek 1 (3 days 2 nights) This is the best wildlife trek in Cambodia. Camping on rapids and watching elephants on the other side. The whole trek is a 117km up and down walk.

Camping allows us to stay in the heart of the most breathtaking natural scenery, away from fast food outlets and encroaching development. Our experienced tour leaders and top quality equipment will surely enhance your experience. We understand that when camping in the wilds of Asia comfort is paramount. When traveling with Stray Dog Adventures you enjoy only the highest quality camping equipment. Including as follows:

  • Sleeping mats
  • Sturdy chairs

Description This is a challenging ride through dense jungle living you the chance to explore Koh Kong’s vibrant rainforest and see some of its diverse wildlife, visit the hot springs and see the rapids, not to mention some of the best waterfalls in South East Asia. The Cardamon Mountains ride is the most difficult ride you can do in Cambodia. We do not get any help on this ride as villagers are usually to far away to contact. On this ride the accomodation is either camping or staying in traditional Khmer village houses so we bring mosquito nets and hammocks with us. Food is simple Asian style and we bring water purification tablets with us. Most of the tracks and trails are single and covered with trees and bushes this can reduce speeds to less than 10km/h taking us some time to reach our destination. WHAT DOES THE INSURANCE COVER?

We can arrange a third part insurance at the price of 15 dollars a day . Requirement for third party insurance is a valid international driving license or cambodian driving license .

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY OF RIDE WITH STRAY DOG ADVENTURES LIKE?

At 9:00 a.m. when you arrive, you will be asked to sign a waiver . After putting on the motorcycle safety gear provided, all riders will be divided into groups based on ability and experience. If you don't know how to ride, we will give you a riding lesson in the morning and then take you on a tour in the afternoon. If you already know how to ride, you will spend all day on the trails. Breaks are scheduled throughout the day as well as a large group lunch. All riding ends at 3:00 p.m. At this time you are asked to return all equipment and lucky for you, we do the laundry.

WHAT DOES THE LUNCH CONSIST OF?

For single day trip we will stop at the waterfall to enjoy some fried noodles or fried rice with meat of your choice . Eat all you like and enjoy sometime relaxing in hammocks or get in the waterfall, bench racing (telling tales about how good a rider you are) with your friends. We are vegetarian friendly, but it is good to let us know in advance. Food allergies should be noted when booking a date.

WHAT ARE THE TRAILS LIKE?

Depending on your ability, you may encounter a variety of terrain. You can exprance everything from sand, gravel, rocks, loam, hills, valleys, fields, forests and more. The trails range in size from being 12 feet wide to 1 foot wide “single-track” (only enough room for a “single” vehicle).

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

We are located in Utopia plaza one hundred meters from the Golden lions roundabout and from serendipity beach.

ARE THERE ANY RULES?

Yes, we do have some rules, mostly for safety reasons: Unless directly told otherwise, stay behind the leader. This is NOT negotiable. In certain sections of the rally we travel in areas where there are hundreds of walking trails and ox-cart tracks and as there are no signs or people, and obviously no petrol or water available (dry season), we don’t have the time or resources to go tracking down riders who decide to lead the pack then lose their way. If, after 15 minutes, you don’t see any other fellow riders, stop and wait. For this reason, it’s important to bring a cheap watch to keep track of time. And make sure you and your bike are in an obvious place where you can be seen (not off the road, or in a shop, or under a tree) and stay with your bike and listen out for us. Don't try to find your way, we will come and find you. Let the rally leader know when your drinking water is running low (preferably before we leave a major town or village). If you rent a bike , be sure to wear the appropriate gears. We provide them for tours. You must ride on the right side of the road and obey the road rules. When riding on main roads, you have to ride in a single file with 20 meters distance between each others. Be AWARE of cows, buffalos, pigs, dogs, chickens and other road users. While riding trough a village , always slow down and be aware of children playing on the road. When riding on dirt tracks and trails you should leave a gap between you and the rider in front at all times (Fall , holes , obstacles on the road ).Be extra cautious when crossing a wooden bridge , slow down or push the bike . When in doubt , slow down and avoid any accident . Ride at your OWN PACE , enjoy the surroundings, you will not be left behind. Bring a sense of humour.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I M INJURED DURING A TOUR ?

Obviously this will depend on the type of injury and where it occurs, and we certainly won’t leave anyone behind in the middle of nowhere, but should someone break a rib or a big toe we’ll transport them to the nearest major road or village and organise transport for them and their bike back to Siahnoukville or Phnom Penh or any closest major city. We’ll have someone meet them at the other side to get medical attention if required. In the unlikely event that someone is in a very bad way we will arrange for a helicopter extraction. This is a very costly exercise so make sure the person you nominate as someone to contact in case of emergency on our registration form is prepared to send a few thousand dollars your way – or check that your insurance policy covers this and make sure they have a 24-hour world-wide contact number and give us the details!Out of the hundreds of riders there was non who use the helicopter .To avoid any injuries Remember this is a non-competitive ride so unless you’re doing 110km/h flying-in and out of the trees through the jungle there should be no major problems. If after reading any of this, you still have any doubts or concerns, please let me know and I’ll do my best to address them.

cambodia dirt bike tours

One of the most incredible and memorable experiences of my life All I can say is wow. We did the 1 Day Tour to Phnom Kulen Waterfall, and this was absolutely the highlight of our entire trip. Not only is the dirtbiking an absolute blast, we also had the opportunity to see parts of Cambodia that we never would've been able to visit without Lis leading us down beautiful back roads through farms and small villages (be prepared to wave back at excited kids as you pass by them!). My partner and I ride motorcycles at home, but this was our first time off road, and after this experience we're thinking of planning entire other vacations around dirt biking adventures. Honestly we might come back to Cambodia just to do some of the multi day tours with Lis. Lis himself is both a wonderful person and tour guide. He is extraordinarily knowledgeable about both the area and the bikes. One of our bikes blew a flat tire on the way back to Siem Reap, and he changed the tube on the side of the road using a log as a jack. We also had a great time just chatting with him and getting to learn more about Cambodia's history and current affairs from his experience and perspective. I literally made a TripAdvisor account to leave this review. Do not hesitate, book a trip with Cambodia Dirtbike Tours, I promise you won't regret it.

I was suggested by a local in PP to take a tour with Mr Lis. All her other suggestions were great and kept me from getting ripped off. I had an amazing time on my 1 day with Mr Lis. Great guy. Suggested to a family of three, they took my advice and also had an amazing time. We went to the waterfall which I would suggest but just my preference, can’t go wrong when riding with Mr Lis! Also a very fair price when compared to other tours.

We (a mixed ability group of 4) went on a day trip to Phnom Kulen water fall - it was roughly 120km. Lim and his son were very patient with us as they showed us how to operate the bikes and gave us ample time to practice. He was fun and relaxed for the whole day. He took lots of photos of us along the way and answered all of our many questions about life in Cambodia; this gave us a great insight into how Covid affected the people there. It was an amazing way to see the areas outside of the city. He brought us to a restaurant near the waterfall where we got really good food! I’d highly recommend this tour!!!
