Review: Magic Kingdom fireworks cruise is pricey, but stress-free

The Magic Kingdom fireworks cruise might be expensive, but it’s also zero-hassle, and when split among a large group, it’s not a bad deal.

Magic Kingdom fireworks cruise

What is a Magic Kingdom Fireworks Cruise?

Have you ever seen pontoon boats cresting along the Seven Seas Lagoon after nightfall and wondered, “How can I do that?”

Walt Disney World Resort in Florida offers fireworks cruises that sail along the bodies of water outside of Magic Kingdom Park for prime viewing of the nighttime spectacular. These cruise bookings are available to any guest.

Magic Kingdom Happily Ever After fireworks cruise

75 minutes before the fireworks’ showtime, you’ll board a private vessel under the helm of their own personal Disney cast member. After enjoying light snacks and floating around the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, you’ll enjoy the fireworks from your boat.

This experience doesn’t have a specifically longwinded or Disney-fied name; it’s simply called a fireworks cruise. The offering is part of Disney’s Enchanted Extras Collection, the name for extra-charge experiences guests can add to their Disney World vacation (like backstage tours, private PhotoPass sessions, etc.).

Price of Magic Kingdom Fireworks Cruise

Disney’s fireworks cruises start at $449, increasing depending on the date. Don’t let the steep price fool you, though; the experience is more affordable than at first glance.

To be certain, $449 is a lot of money, but unlike most price listings throughout Disney World, this cost refers to the price per boat, not per person. Up to 10 guests can take part in the fireworks cruise, and the price will be the same no matter how many people you bring.

Therefore, a fireworks cruise is among the few experiences in Disney World where more people = less money. The more people onboard, the lower the cost will be for each guest. If you max out the capacity and book a cruise for 10 guests, the price starts at about $45 per person. That’s on par many other reservable add-ons to a Disney vacation, and in many cases is far cheaper than them.

Magic Kingdom at dusk

To compare, a round of putt-putt at Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf costs $19 per person, the one-hour Behind the Seeds backstage tour at Epcot starts at $39 per person, and dinner at Magic Kingdom’s Be Our Guest Restaurant costs $41 for guests ages 3-9 and $70 for guests ages 10+.

Also unlike many add-on Disney experiences, Magic Kingdom fireworks cruises do not require theme park admission. This makes the excursion an excellent option for an arrival-night experience, or otherwise any day of vacation you don’t spend in the parks, so as to not take precious park time away from those days. Alternatively, a fireworks cruise makes a nice option for the end of a day that begins at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, since that park often closes earlier than the others and has no nighttime spectacular.

View of Fireworks

Magic Kingdom fireworks cruise

During your fireworks cruise, the cast member driving your part will “park” the vessel with a postcard-perfect view of Magic Kingdom directly in front of you, with Cinderella Castle and the Walt Disney World Railroad Station visible.

Your boat’s speakers even pump in the entire show’s soundtrack, synced with the park.

From this vantage point, the projections on the castle aren’t very clear, but the trade-off is more than fair. This is as good as it gets, and the quintessential image many folks think of when they hear the words “Disney World.”

Choose Your Own Adventure

At the beginning of our voyage, our cast member driver asked my family what kind of cruise we wanted, and how we preferred she interact with us. She said we could have a friendly cruise, making polite conversation; a Disney history cruise, pointing out fun facts around the waterways; or a “pretend I’m not here” cruise, during which she’d drive the boat but otherwise let us enjoy family time without interruption. I appreciated this blunt communication, as I’d imagine different guests have different styles of cruises in mind.

We opted for the Disney history version, and I’m glad we did. Our driver showed us a tree that generations of recreation cast members have their tossed shoes upon, what remains of the Discovery Island dock (from a safe distance), and a small barn Disney constructed (on the far reaches of Bay Lake that I did not know existed) as a habitat for bats to keep the insect population in check. Sure enough, later in the evening we saw bats flying about above the lake in such a quantity that I wondered how I’d never noticed them before.

Bay Lake at Walt Disney World

After the show was over, our driver asked if we wanted to stick around for the Electrical Water Pageant, the procession of fiber-optic floats whose lights dance to synth music. Yes, please!

Snacks Onboard

A small selection of snacks are included with the price of the fireworks cruise. Whereas some Disney “snacks” are plentiful enough to substitute a meal, the snacks provided during this experience are snack snacks, so don’t skip dinner. During our cruise, we enjoyed canned soft drinks, bottled water, Mickey rice crispy treats, and individually packages chips. You’re allowed to take home what you don’t use — perfect for bring with you to the parks the next day! There are no alcoholic beverages onboard.

Which Show Will You See?

Happily Ever After poster

Most nights of the year, Magic Kingdom performs “Happily Ever After,” its standard (and spectacular) production that debuted in 2017.

If your fireworks cruise is during August through December, your excursion might coincide instead with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. On nights when these events take place, Magic Kingdom instead presents “Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular” or “Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks,” respectively.

Since fireworks cruises can’t be booked farther than 60 days in advance, you should be able to consult Magic Kingdom’s calendar and see which nights will have which show (or ask the cast member during your booking phone call).

Just like on regular nights, if your cruise is during a party evening, you do not need party admission to book a fireworks cruise.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off Locations

Upon reserving your fireworks cruise, you can select where you’d like your boat to pick you up: Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, or Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. You do not need to be staying overnight at any of these resorts to select it as your pick-up location.

Cruises do not embark from Magic Kingdom itself, but all of these resorts are a quick monorail or ferry boat ride away from the park. If you have questions about how to get from point A to point B, ask the cast member you speak with when you call Disney to reserve your cruise.

Additionally, at the end of your voyage, your driver can drop you off at any of the aforementioned resorts, even if it’s not where your cruise began.

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort lobby

Our family started the day at Animal Kingdom, exited the park around 5:30 p.m., rode a bus to the Polynesian, grabbed a quick-service dinner at Capt. Cook’s, and boarded our fireworks cruise at the Polynesian marina at 7:15 p.m. Our excursion took place during spring break , so afterward we opted to get dropped off at Grand Floridian to see the lobby’s display of Easter eggs.

How to Purchase a Disney Fireworks Cruise

You can book a fireworks cruise 60 days in advance of your intended cruise date (or 60 days in advance of your Disney resort check-in date, if staying on property).

Magic Kingdom at night

Reserve a Magic Kingdom fireworks cruise by calling (407) 939-7529. Reservations are not available online.

Is the Fireworks Cruise Worth It?

Is a Magic Kingdom fireworks cruise worth the bang for your buck? I’d say it absolutely is, and then some — on the condition you’re able to bring a large group and economize your dollar. On the other hand, if you only have one or two other travel companions with you, a fireworks cruise is difficult to justify for the price.

Then again, there might be more appeal to this experience for you beyond its price tag. Does picking out a fireworks spot in front of Cinderella Castle an hour before showtime and waiting among a huge crowd sound like your worst nightmare? If so, a stress-free, private fireworks viewing might be worth it to you, at any cost. In a trip filled with Lightning Lanes and virtual queues , our family’s fireworks cruise was easily the most relaxing, worry-free activity of our Disney vacation.

Magic Kingdom bokeh

A happy medium — watching from outside the park and away from huge crowds, but not paying hundreds of dollars to do so — presents itself in the form of casual beachside viewing at the Polynesian Village Resort. You’ll be much farther away from the fireworks, yes, but hey, it’s free.

If this will be your first time viewing any Magic Kingdom fireworks show, opt for watching the show from inside the park instead (see options below). While the view from the water is gorgeous, you’ll get a fuller sense of the show’s projections and added media from in front of the castle.

Other Disney Fireworks Packages

In addition to private pontoon cruises outside of Magic Kingdom, Disney offers several other fireworks viewing experiences.

Magic Kingdom hosts reserved fireworks viewing inside the park paired with dessert parties before , during , and after the show.

Epcot offers dining packages with reserved seating for “ Luminous The Symphony of Us ” at Spice Road Table (in the Morocco Pavilion) and Rose & Crown (in the United Kingdom Pavilion) , as well as its own private fireworks cruises (launching from Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts).

Note that Magic Kingdom’s former “ Ferrytale Fireworks: A Dazzling Dessert Cruise ” is no longer offered.

Disney World Fireworks Cruise

Jamie Rumph

This Disney World fireworks cruise is one extra magic opportunity you won’t want to miss while on your Disney World vacation!

Disney World Fireworks cruise on Seven Seas Lagoon

You know that Disney picture we’ve all seen, the magical commercial with fireworks behind Magic Kingdom’s train station, Cinderella’s castle popping up in the background and the monorail perfectly traveling in front of it all?? The Disney vacation commercial that makes us say “I want that” vacation experience?

I’m here to tell you HOW to have that tv commercial like experience at Walt Disney World.

I try so many things at Disney and the majority of them I really enjoy. They’re all fun! And nearly all of them give me that pinch-me moment of “is this real life? How did I get lucky enough to call Disney my weekly playground? But this one experience tops so many of the other Disney World experiences I’ve had! It’s one you don’t want to miss. If you’re looking for extra magic… this is the one!

Disney Fireworks Cruise on Seven Seas Lagoon

Table of Contents

You must watch Happily Ever After, the Magic Kingdom fireworks show, from a boat on Seven Seas Lagoon. And no, not any boat will do. Hopping on the ferry or other boat transportation isn’t what I’m talking about! And truthfully as much fun as Pirates and Pals is fun, I’m not talking about it either! What I’m talking about it chartering your own private boat with Disney!

Disney fireworks view from Bay Lake on our chartered boat

Why it was so amazing!

Watching Happily Ever After fireworks on a Disney fireworks cruise on Seven Seas Lagoon was the best viewing I’ve ever experienced! Yes, even better than the reserved seating with the fireworks dessert party . (It was pretty awesome too!) The view was stunning, completely picturesque and best of all, I didn’t have to fight for a place to stand! In fact, I sat and relaxed the whole time! It was like our own private viewing of Happily Ever After! No heads in the way, no tired feet and completely uninterrupted music as it played over the boat speakers! It’s an experience everyone should have if they love Disney and fireworks!

Here’s how it works! And it’s less expensive than you would think!

Disney owns approximately 27 pontoon boats and 1 very fancy Grand Yacht that can be chartered by guests each evening for the fireworks show.

Disney's Grand Yacht sailing on Bay Lake

To book your chartered boat ask your travel agent to call 407-WDW-PLAY  or visit Disney’s Speciality cruise page. Ideally, you would make your reservation at 180 days prior to arrival but honestly, unless it’s a very popular time, think holidays, you’re ok to call in closer to your vacation. In fact, we booked our cruise only a month in advance for a weeknight sailing in September.

You will have the option to charter the Grand Yacht or a pontoon boat. They have two size pontoon boats that hold 8 to 10 people.

The yacht is really pricey at a mere $800 per hour whereas the pontoon boats are much more affordable. We chartered a 10 person pontoon boat for $375.00 for the evening from 7:15-9 ish for an 8 pm fireworks show. The price does vary by season and rates are much higher for holiday nights.

Where to board your Disney fireworks cruise boat

When you schedule your fireworks specialty cruise you will choose to meet your boat at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, the Grand Floridian, the Contemporary or Wilderness Lodge. We chose Disney’s Polynesian Resort because we wanted to have dinner at their quick-service restaurant, Captain Cooks (one of my most fav quick service places to eat all over Disney World), prior to sailing.

When you arrive at the resort you’ll head to the marina where you’ll meet up with your boat driver. The boat is pristinely clean and waiting complete with soda, water, and a few light snacks.

Once you’re aboard snap a picture and then it’s time to head out on the water!

Snacks on our Disney World fireworks cruise

After the fireworks, our boat driver took us on a nighttime boat ride across Seven Seas Lagoon and over onto Bay Lake! On the Bay Lake side, he showed us a few things that are “no longer” at Disney World. One of them being the old water park, River Country that closed in over 13 years ago! The slides here were never torn down and are now just overgrown and there are signs posted for guests to keep out! It’s a really interesting piece of Disney history complete with all the rumors that go with something like it! This picture is not great but certainly worth sharing just for the fun of seeing past Disney history! If you visited River Country as a kid (or adult kid) make sure you email me your pictures! I’d love to see them!  (RUMOR confirmed!  In October 2018 Disney announced they would be building a new resort in between Disney’s Fort Wilderness and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge .  This space is exactly where the River Country Water Park is!)

Disney's old River Country Water Park remains

Fireworks Cruise

We did the fireworks cruise and it was fantastic. We booked to leave from the Contemporary Hotel, we had our private boat with crisps and soda. We also booked champagne and a Mickey Cake. We cruised around the lake for about 45 minutes, our skipper, Rex, was great, we learnt so much about Disney. We then took our place on the lake to watch the fireworks. The view was amazing, and the music is streamed through to the boat so that you can hear it. We watched the same fireworks from the park a few nights earlier and you miss so much. Best view is from the lake, and the bonus is no crowds. If you can afford the extra $350 go for it....you will not be sorry.

We did the $300 an hour VIP tour of Disney for our holiday (that excludes entrance to the park which is on top). The main reason is so that we can get as much done in a day without having to queue. And basically that's what you get. A "pass-pass" tour with lots of info from the guide. It is not front-of-the-line like a Six-Flags VIP tour. Our Disney guide was great and whisked us around the best of Magic Kingdom, Studios & Epcot and we did all the attractions we requested. However... it would have been nice to have seen Mickey and had something physical as a keep-sake/souvenir for our $3k (plus park entrance). As an example, you do the Six-Flags VIP tour and get a free photo, 2 free meals, free drinks/ice-creams refreshments, souvenir cups, free "raid the candy store", and front-of-the-line access to everything... and entrance ot the park !!! you definitely feel like a VIP. The Disney tour is (when compared) a "fast-pass" tour with info from a guide.

Every year my son who is now 9 years old loves to go on the stage and fight with Darth Vader. Each year it changes. A few years ago the cast members would choose kids from the audience. Last year we had to arrive at Hollywood Studios when it opened then one person stood in line and signed up for an available time slot. This year we were told to sign up our son near the Drew Carey attraction. So I (his father) came when the park opened and left my wife and two kids in bed since we stayed out until 100 am for Epcot late night hours. I get told that the child must be with me because of safety questions. However the lady was nice enough to reserve a spot. Once we got there the safety questions were something that I could have answered. These little changes are the small things that are frustrating. Now I highly recommend the deluxe meal plan but reserve your restaurants at the 180 day mark. The food at the high end restaurants in awesome. The only complaint that I have is that every bill shows that we should tip 18-20 percent. I get it at the restaurants where someone waits on you but at the buffets there is a wait person who brings you drinks. Not sure why they deserve such a high tip. For example a breakfast buffet with two adults and two children recommends a tip near $20. Why so much for a person who brings and refills drinks? We stayed 10 days and spend around $500 on tips.

I am the 20 year old adult male who finds himself unable to remove the stupid smile glued to his face when he is here. Look out you might see me sometime: eyes as wide as saucers and constantly in aww at the magnificant beauty this place has to give. Every show, every ride, every event I experience at this place I hold so dear to my heart almost as if I was afraid the memory might escape me. You might see me running past the people who mope or wiping the tears from my eyes after seeing fantasmic (or anything with mickey in it). Everything that walt ever tried to achieve in this place he withoutadoubt succeeded and I wish he was still around to thank. Yes the lines are long and sometimes the crying kids are unbearable. But i just remember what this place is about and my smile comes flying right back at me. Thank you Walt.

My husband and I were convinced this would not be a trip we would enjoy but we were surprised (and happy) to find we were very wrong! September was a great time to go as it wasn't very busy. Only issue are love bugs and it was still pretty hot so we are trying October in 2012 instead. It really depends on what you want out of your trip. I made sure to plan some signature meals in the evening. All character meals were planned during the day. We really though the dining was outstanding and made the trip for us. Our daughter (4) had a great time. The trip was mainly about meeting characters at her age. If you are lucky, you'll meet some staff that will go above and beyond. We did.. very impressive!

I don't have kids or grandkids so there isn't much for me to get excited about. I was with my wife's side of the family and the nephews had a good time so that was fine, Disney isn't designed for fifty year old men with no kids so i don't want to beat it up to badly and there were a few things I liked.

General Information and What’s Included:

If you choose the Epcot fireworks cruise you will depart from the Beach and Yacht Club marina. If you are doing the Magic Kingdom fireworks cruise you currently have the option to depart from the Grand Floridian or Contemporary Resort. The recreation dock at Wilderness Lodge is being refurbished at the time of this article but we were told that the plan was for it to return as a departure location in the future. Each cruise is driven by a captain from the recreation team and accommodates 10 people on a 25 foot pontoon boat. Each boat is stocked with canned drinks (coke, diet coke, sprite), bottled water, and a snack basket. The snacks are all pre-packaged and include chips, rice crispy treats, cookies, and brownies. They are able to accommodate some food allergies as well if you note the allergies when booking. Festive banners and balloons are included in the cost so if you are celebrating a special occasion, be sure to mention it when booking! Each cruise lasts about 2 hours.

Tour Experience- Epcot vs Magic Kingdom:

First, let’s take a look at the Epcot experience. We met our guide at the recreation marina near the Yacht Club and the little ones in our party were fitted for a life jacket. About an hour prior to the fireworks we boarded our boat for a cruise around Crescent Lake and the scenic waterways around Hollywood Studios. Upon approaching Hollywood Studios we could hear the nearby Fantasmic show and even see a few of the pyrotechnic effects. Our captain gave us some background on the area as we headed inside Epcot to the World Showcase Lagoon. For the Epcot experience, we docked underneath the bridge that connects the United Kingdom to France. We tied up with the other boats also doing cruises so we were in close proximity to several other boats. Our captain offered us noise-canceling headphones for the two little ones in our party and I thought this was a nice touch for those who may be sensitive to noise. The view was great! We could clearly see and hear the entirety of the show while relaxing in the comfort of our boat.

disney fireworks cruise reviews

Now, let’s compare the Magic Kingdom experience. We opted to depart from the Grand Floridian, where we met our captain at the recreation marina near Gasparilla Grill. The boat and setup were nearly identical to the Epcot experience. The only notable difference that I observed was the addition of a cooler that popped up to make a table. This would be convenient if you choose to bring aboard additional food or drink items. Upon our departure, we headed for Bay Lake, which is the body of water that surrounds the back of the Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, and Fort Wilderness. This area is also home to the abandoned Disney water park, River Country, and zoological park, Discovery Island. You’ll learn some interesting history about both attractions during your cruise. After some time sailing Bay Lake, we returned to the Seven Seas Lagoon where we got in position for the fireworks. For this experience, the boat remains free-floating, meaning you are not tethered to another boat or structure like at Epcot. The music is piped onto the boat while you enjoy a unique view of the Magic Kingdom, Cinderella’s Castle, and the fireworks. After the fireworks, our driver pivoted the boat and we were able to enjoy the Electrical Water Pageant before returning to the Grand Floridian.

disney fireworks cruise reviews

A final note to consider- the waterways for the Epcot cruise were much calmer because they see significantly less boat traffic than the waterways around the Magic Kingdom. During the Epcot show you are tethered to other boats and/or the bridge so movement is very minimal and has less of an impact. For the Magic Kingdom cruise, when larger vessels such as the ferry or large boat transportation went by, we definitely felt more movement from the wake of those boats. Since the entire cruise is free floating, you may feel more rocking.

Agent Impressions:

I can’t recommend a private fireworks cruise enough! I love having a place to sit away from the crowds while still enjoying the show. It’s one of the most relaxing and unique fireworks viewing experiences you can get. Bonus: After the show, you skip the crowded exit and long transportation lines as you head back for the boat dock in comfort! There are NO park tickets needed for this experience, making it a great activity to do on a rest day. This is an excellent option for those looking to celebrate a special occasion or just relax and chat with loved ones. Moving forward, I can see this being a regular add-on for me. The calm atmosphere works better for my family and the whole experience from beginning to end is fantastic!

disney fireworks cruise reviews

  • You can bring your own food and drink (no glass) onboard. Celebrating a special occasion and want cake? Bring it with you! Prefer a certain beverage? Bring it along! Want dinner on the boat? Yep, you can do that too! Just keep in mind that plates, napkins, and utensils are not provided so you’ll want to pack those as well.
  • Use the restroom prior to boarding the boat. The total time onboard is about 2 hours and no restrooms will be available during that time.
  • Plan accordingly for the weather. The cruise will still take place in cold and light rain but can be canceled in case of severe, or otherwise inclement, weather.
  • If someone in your travel party is particularly sensitive to motion or sea sickness, you may want to take that into consideration when booking.
  • You will miss the projection elements from the Magic Kingdom fireworks. If this is important, you may consider an alternative experience such as the fireworks dessert parties.

Got to go for the release of the 50th anniversary firework show. Absolutely phenomenal experience. Got to learn a lot about the lagoon and the tour guide was extremely pleasant! Would definitely recommend for a special event.

Our family of 4 (including two boys, ages 2 and 5) did the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage on 8/23/13. This was our first experience doing a special tour / cruise with Disney. We loved it! The boys were greeted by friendly staff who gave us pirate bandanas and offered to take our picture with several pirate statues! TIP: Arrive early...they have coloring and sticker stations set up outside the ballroom at the Contemporary. The kids can take part in these activities before the actual event begins. At the starting time, you are ushered into a ballroom where you can eat (all you want) from a selection of desserts, coffee, juice, and other snacks (popcorn, cotton candy, chocolate coins). You can enjoy treats before or after meeting Captain Hook and Mr. Smee. Both were friendly and posed for pics. This part was a little rushed for us....you only get about 30 mins in the ballroom total and the line is long to wait (depending on where you are -- we were toward the back). We waited to meet the characters first and then only had a few minutes to eat. Our little ones couldn't even finish a Mickey ice cream / popsicle in that time, let alone try anything else. We didn't feel like we were able to fully enjoy ourselves at this portion because we were rushed. Also there are no sit down tables....only chairs along the edges of the room. With a 2 and 5 year old, balancing their plates and drinks was a challenge. I think next time we would eat and let the line go down, then pop up to meet Captain Hook / Mr. Smee at the end. Still, we didn't let this overshadow our experience! Afterward, you get instructions from your pirate crew on how / where to board the fireworks cruise. The cruise itself is excellent. You are able to see the Electrical Water Pageant up close before the fireworks begin. The crew is very funny and they engage everyone on board in singing, jokes, dancing, and recognition of birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Our oldest is afraid of fireworks and loved watching them from a distance without hearing the big booms! It is great that they pipe in the music....very magical! It was a wonderful way to really enjoy how the fireworks are organized and displayed around the castle and with the music. When we left the ship, our boys were each given a sword. And the very end of the cruise, well, I won't spoil it but that is the most magical part of all!!!!!!

My family of 6 took the Wishes Cruise for the second time on July 2nd. I cannot say enough about this experience. It was absolutely amazing! Chris, our captain was the best! He was friendly and told us a lot of interesting facts about different things on Disney property. Our boat was decorated with balloons and a "Happy Anniversary" banner. There were Coke products, bottled water and an assortment of crunchy snacks available to us. We were able to take anything that was leftover back to our resort. We were lucky enough to see the 4th of July fireworks, for they shot them off all week instead of the usual "Wishes." It was a 15 minute show that lit up the sky set to music about our country. Again, amazing!!! I know this is expensive, but let me assure you, worth every penny. It's a private cruise, and we all had tears in our eyes when it was over...

Private Fireworks Cruise Review Disney World (2024)

Private cruise Disney World

We booked this cruise to celebrate my 35th birthday at Disney World. It was something special I wanted to surprise the group with as a thank you for making my birthday so special.

We booked it on our ‘free’ day when we weren’t going to any Parks so that we didn’t have to rush.

How do I watch Disney fireworks from a boat?

Keep reading for a complete breakdown and photos of our time on the boat!

EPCOT Private Fireworks Cruise 2024

How Far In Advance Do You Need to Book a Private Fireworks Cruise

We booked the fireworks cruise around 2 months before our trip. When I spoke with our driver she said they sell out each night, so book as far ahead as possible.

You aren’t able to book online so you will need to call directly but it’s a simple process and the Cast Members are very friendly.

Be sure to let them know if you’re celebrating anything special, they can decorate the boat with a cute sign and sometimes balloons.

Check in Fireworks Cruise Review

How Much Does the Disney Private Fireworks Cruise Cost?

The price for the private cruise was around $475. The boat can hold up to 10 people, so it’s not a bad upgrade to split with the group.

They have around 5 boats a night for the EPCOT cruise and about 10 boats for the Magic Kingdom cruise.

EPCOT Fireworks Cruise Disney World

We saw other birthday parties and also couples on the boats.

Our driver said she’s been part of a lot of anniversaries and proposals.

It’s a great addition to your trip, especially if you’re celebrating something special.

What Is Included In a Disney Fireworks Cruise

Our trip was around 1hr 15 minutes. We left from the marina at the Yacht Club Hotel.

The boat left at 8 PM and we had to check in around 7:45 PM.

Yacht Club Epcot Boat

Included with the boat ride was water, soda and a lot of yummy snacks.

At the end of the ride, we were able to take all of the drinks and snacks we didn’t finish with us.

Can You Bring Food and Drinks on Private Disney Cruise

Yes, you can bring your own food and drinks on the private fireworks cruise.

You’re allowed to bring alcohol too but no glass.

Before boarding, we purchased sandwiches at the Market at the Yacht Club Hotel and enjoyed them on the boat.

We also packed way too much water because I forgot they had some for us on the boat.

Market Yacht Club DIsney World

We packed a few beers and enjoyed all the treats they provided as we watched the fireworks.

It was a beautiful show and tears were everywhere.

Is a Disney Fireworks Cruise Worth It?

Yes! I would 100% say the Disney Fireworks cruise is worth it.

We had 9 adults on board the boat and everyone loved it! I’m actually terrified of boats and after my anxiety the first 15 minutes I was in love.

Review of Private Fireworks Cruise Disney World

It was such a special thing to do with friends and the perfect way to end our last night at the Disney Parks.

If you have any questions, please leave them below. I’d love to help answer any you have.

If I’m able to, I will book another cruise on our next trip.

Harmonious Private Fireworks Cruise

by Shannon Loehrlein · July 18, 2022

EPCOT nighttime spectacular

Walt Disney World currently has nightly fireworks in both Magic Kingdom and Epcot.  Magic Kingdom offers dessert parties and private fireworks cruises. The Harmonious Fireworks cruise provides priority viewing of the nightly fireworks with snacks, privacy, and superior fireworks views.

International Gateway

Epcot currently offers private fireworks cruises and dining packages at Spice Road Table and the Rose and Crown to view Harmonious. My family experienced the Harmonious private fireworks cruise for 4th of July weekend. Harmonious is currently my favorite fireworks show at Walt Disney World.

Fireworks Cruise

Private fireworks cruises are bookable 60 days in advance through the Enchanting Extras phone line.  Epcot and Magic Kingdom offer these nighty cruises.  A limited number of these charted boats are offered so make sure you book these in advance.

Harmonious

For the Epcot cruise, guests view the fireworks at International Gateway between the France and United Kingdom pavilion.

Pricing starts at $399 plus tax.  The boat seats up to 10 guests.  We were traveling with a group of 9.  Traveling with a larger group is a great way to split the costs to make the cruise more affordable.  Splitting the costs of most groups is actually cheaper than a dessert part if you have a larger group.

DVC members also receive a discount when booking the cruise.

Yacht Dock

The Harmonious cruise departed from the Yacht Club dock.  We were told to arrive at 8 pm.  Once we arrived, children were provided with a lifejacket.  Disney provides included snacks and sodas. At the end of the cruise, you are encouraged to take all the snacks and sodas with you.

Snacks

We also received a printed photo of the fireworks as a souvenir keepsake.

Pre-Show Cruise

Once we boarded the ship, our captain took us on a tour of Crescent Lake.  We were taken to Hollywood Studios and had commentary on Disney history of the resorts and attractions.  We then were taken to Epcot and docked off in International Gateway.

Boardwalk

Fireworks Show

Once we were docked at International Gateway, we were able to enjoy snacks and drinks.  We were docked for about 15 minutes prior to the show starting.  Each boat docks right next to each other so each boat has equally good views.

Harmonious

The Harmonious show relies heavily on projections so I was worried that the view may not be the best.  I was wrong.  The only part of the show we had some difficulty seeing was the large circular screen, but we had a good view of the other screens.

Harmonious

We had a great view of the show and enjoyed the privacy of our own boat.  We did not have to line up early to find the perfect viewing spot.  To us this was worth it with our small children.  Our captain even provided us with noise cancelling headphones for our 3-year-old.

Harmonious

I would highly recommend booking the private Harmonious fireworks cruise.  If you split the costs between several families, the experience is also cheaper than buying individual tickets to a dessert party.

We had a great viewing space, delicious snacks, and a relaxing experience.  We also did not have to contend with the crowds leaving the park after the fireworks as we were taken back to the Yacht Club dock.

Harmonious

All about the Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise

All about the Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise

Have you heard of the Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise ? We are BIG fans of the Magic Kingdom Dessert Parties that you can book inside the park and we honestly had high hopes for this one, too. Alas, let’s just say… it didn’t exactly meet the mark.

But before we get too far into our honest review, let’s go over everything you need to know about the Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise, including pricing, what’s included, and what you can expect to be served. After that, we’ll get into the nitty-gritty, and we’ll tell you our thoughts on whether or not the Ferrytale Fireworks cruise is worth it.

Let’s get into it…

In this article

What is the Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise and where is it located?

Like other Magic Kingdom Dessert Parties , the Ferrytale Fireworks dessert cruise allows you to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks while dining on a range of desserts and beverages (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic).

ferrytale fireworks a sparkling dessert cruise

But, unlike the parties that happen inside the park, this one takes place on a ferryboat that sails on the Seven Seas Lagoon just outside the entrance of Magic Kingdom. While it sounds enchanting, it doesn’t quite capture the grandeur you’d experience land-side. Reflections on the lagoon and distant firework sounds are a different experience, and not necessarily the magical one you might expect.

How much does the Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise cost?

This dessert party is not cheap.

The Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise costs (tax and gratuity is included):

  • $130 per adult
  • $80 per child (ages 3 to 9)

In comparison, the ones inside the park range from $99 – $109 per adult and $59 per child up for a reserved standing location, to $119 – $129 for adults and $75 per child for a reserved seated location.

Of course, you’d have to have a park ticket to book one of the parties inside Magic Kingdom, but you’d also get a much, much better view of the fireworks.

What is included?

Lanyards & mickey vision glasses.

Upon check in, all guests are given a lanyard that lights up with “Mickey Vision” glasses. You simply hold them up (if you’d like) and any type of lighting will be transformed into Mickeys!

lanyard

The lanyards are a cute addition and the kids seemed to like them. However, the lights were really bright and we kept ours turned off.

Scavenger hunt

On the ship, there is also a little scavenger hunt for kids (and adults).

It helped to pass the time while we were waiting for the show to start and was a cute little addition to the trip.

Electrical Water Pageant Viewing

On nights when the Electrical Water Pageant ‘s schedule overlaps with the Ferrytale Fireworks Cruise, as long as the waters are safe, you’ll be positioned in a great spot to watch it before the fireworks begin.

Desserts and Drinks

Now for the important part: the drinks and desserts!

ferrytale fireworks a sparkling dessert cruise food menu list

Before we dive in, it’s important to note that if you or anyone in your party has any dietary restrictions, you should indicate so when booking online . In addition, be sure to notify a Cast Member, server, chef, or manager on duty of any dietary restrictions when arriving.

Of course, menu items can change, but you can expect a selection to include similar offerings to what we had.

  • Coffee and Hot Tea
  • Watermelon mojito
  • Watermelon margarita
  • Assorted beer

  • Strawberry pops
  • Cherry cream puff
  • Orange cheesecake
  • Key lime macaron
  • Assorted cheeses
  • Assorted nuts

How do you book it?

You can begin booking the Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise online or in the My Disney Experience app 60 days in advance.

Important: This particular dessert party cruise is only available on select Wednesday and Saturday nights, so you’ll want to plan accordingly. Same-day reservations can be made before 5 p.m. on a limited basis and are subject to availability.

confirmation for ferrytale fireworks sparkling dessert cruise

Full payment is due at the time of booking. There is a one-day cancellation policy, meaning the full price will be charged/forfeited if you don’t cancel within one-day or are a “no-show.”

How does check in work?

To board the ferryboat, you will need to check in for the dessert cruise at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) to the left of the Ferryboat launch.

The TTC is the transportation hub for all of Walt Disney World . This is where you park if you drive to Magic Kingdom. It is also the only place you can catch (or transfer to) the monorail to Epcot. If you plan to take a taxi or Uber/Lyft to Magic Kingdom, this is the official drop-off spot for that, as well as being the place where some of the offsite buses drop off guests for Magic Kingdom.

The boat sets sail 50 minutes before the fireworks, and there will be no further boarding at that time. You need to make sure you arrive on time or else the boat will leave you.

When you arrive, look for the signs to the left of the walkway down to the boats.

You’ll check in and get your lanyard, which not only lights up, but also has your “Mickey View” goggles attached to it.

The holding area is covered and has some bench seating. Plus, while you wait, they give you a drink (options both with and without alcohol are available).

ferrytale fireworks a sparkling dessert cruise ferryboat

How is the view from Seven Seas Lagoon?

Now the tricky part – the view.

The view of the castle from the water isn’t bad. You’ll be able to see all the fireworks from this vantage point.

The boat has 2 levels, and the view from the top was definitely the best (and where we recommend you view the fireworks). Not only are the windows more wide open, the extra height helps you clear any trees that might be in the way:

ferrytale fireworks a sparkling dessert cruise view from upstairs

Compare that to the view from the bottom, where the window openings are a lot smaller:

ferrytale fireworks a sparkling dessert cruise

As you can see in the pictures, the projections aren’t really visible. You can see that they are there, you just can’t really SEE them (if that makes sense).

During the show, you are welcome to move around if you need to. Our cruise was only partially full so there was plenty of room upstairs for everyone to watch the show.

And yes – the music is piped in onto the boat . BUT, on our cruise, the sound cut out a few times (which was annoying).

Is the Ferrytale Fireworks cruise accessible?

Yes, those using wheelchairs and ECVs can be accommodated. Strollers are also permitted.

Is the Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise worth it?

Now the hard part – is the Ferrytale Fireworks: A Sparkling Dessert Cruise worth it?

Unfortunately, we don’t think so and here are the 2 main reasons why:

  • Value for Money : Firstly, as lovely as the desserts were, we don’t think the overall experience justifies the cost. For that price, we could have had a top-tier meal at some of Disney’s best restaurants – including California Grill, where we could have had an equally good view of the fireworks from their observation deck. Read more about other places to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from outside the park .
  • View : Even though the fireworks are the main attraction, we felt the views from the boat were somewhat obstructed. It didn’t feel as magical as standing right in front of the castle or on Main Street. You can’t really see Tink or the projections. It was a good view – but it wasn’t GREAT.

View from the top of boat ferrytale fireworks a sparkling dessert cruise

But, while the Ferrytale Fireworks Dessert Cruise wasn’t a great fit for us, there are some people who might like it:

  • People who love the fireworks, but hate the crowds. Our boat was not crowded at all, which would be perfect for anybody who prefers to have space.
  • People who are sensitive to the sounds of the fireworks. Disney fireworks aren’t super loud, but things are even quietier out on the water.
  • Groups who want to see the fireworks but don’t have a park ticket. Although we think you’d be better served spending your money on a dinner at a Magic Kingdom area restaurant, if you can’t get a reservation or just prefer the idea of being on a boat, then this dessert party might be for you.

Other important details

What happens if there is bad weather.

The Ferrytale Fireworks cruise will still occur in inclement weather , but may be modified or canceled due to extreme weather conditions.

Fireworks at Magic Kingdom may be changed or canceled without prior notice due to inclement weather.

Are restrooms on board?

Yes, there are restrooms for event guests to utilize. But – they are “marine” restrooms, and our experience with them was not great. If people read the instructions, they probably are fine in a pinch, but we’d recommend using the bathroom right next to the check-in location before boarding.

ferrytale fireworks a sparkling dessert cruise bathroom

Do you need theme park tickets?

No, theme park admission is not required for this experience.

A Disney Fireworks Cruise Will *Blow* You Away!

Disney fireworks cruise IllumiNations

We were blown away by the Disney World fireworks cruise my family took, to view Epcot IllumiNations! Here are the details of what to expect, what’s included, how much time to allow, and the cost.  Plus a preview video of our on-the-lake view of IllumiNations!  Everything you need to know in a Disney fireworks cruise review.

Did you know that your family can take a Disney World fireworks cruise aboard a pontoon boat? My family tried this fabulous experience out during our most recent Walt Disney World vacation.  The fireworks cruise we took was near Epcot, where we had an up close and personal viewing of Illuminations.  It was absolutely breathtaking!  Here’s some highlights and tips in my summary Disney fireworks cruise review.

Should You Include a Fireworks Cruise?

A Disney World fireworks cruise is such a unique and over-the-top experience, that I absolutely recommend your family trying this at least once.   Put it on your Disney Bucket List.

Although my family has been to Disney World several times, a fireworks cruise was not something that had previously been on our radar.  On this visit we were being hosted on a media trip, so I was excited to see they had added it to our itinerary.

Our host was TakeMeFishing.org , and they had incorporated multiple water adventures you can have while at Disney World.  This made for some terrific new experiences, both Disney-wise and life-wise!  It included going bass fishing on Bay Lake , which was a huge hit with my entire family.

It’s always so fun to try something new at Disney World!

But back to watching Illuminations at Epcot via a fireworks cruise.  I’m so glad we got to experience it!  It was truly fantastic.  And in Disney terms (it’s all relative, isn’t it?)… it’s not that expensive of an add on to your vacation.

Disney Fireworks Cruise Review ~ Schedule & Location

Disney Fireworks Cruise Review Yacht Club marina and dock

Our Epcot IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth cruise departed from Disney’s Yacht Club marina.  We had to meet at the dock around 8:45 pm, in order to view what was a 10:00 pm Illuminations show that evening.

We had our own boat captain, who was super friendly and served as our host for the evening.  A complementary basket of snacks and cooler full of cold soda and water is included with your fireworks cruise package.

Disney Fireworks Cruise review complementary snacks on boat

The boat is pontoon style.  That evening my family of four shared the boat with one other family.  In total, we had 10 people with a comfortable amount of room and available seating.

Disney Fireworks Cruise ~ What to Expect

Disney Fireworks Cruise review kids wear life jackets

Around Walt Disney World’s Epcot area, there are three Disney resorts situated around a lake and waterway.  These Disney resorts are all so close to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios, that you can easily walk to those parks.  Also, the waterway is used as a transportation route instead of Disney buses.  Friendship Boats offer complementary transportation, and have the right of way under bridges and in any congested areas.

We left for our Epcot Illuminations Fireworks Cruise with plenty of time to navigate leisurely to our destination.  The captain actually took us for a loop down to Hollywood Studios, to enjoy a longer, relaxing boat ride.  Unlike zipping along in a speed boat, the sound of the pontoon motor during the cruise is minimal, allowing for conversation.

Next we headed in the other direction to nestle into our spot to watch the fireworks.  You approach the International Gateway “back” entrance to Epcot.  The Disney World Fireworks cruise boats all appeared of the same size, and were lined up in a tight row underneath the bridge between France and United Kingdom.

Disney World Fireworks Cruise lineup of boats at Epcot International Gateway bridge

In other words, you are floating right on the water… on the edge of World Showcase Lagoon.  Words cannot fully express what an exhilarating experience it is to watch Illuminations from this vantage point!

IllumiNations… Like You’ve Never Seen It Before!

Disney World fireworks cruise boats lined up at Epcot International Gateway 2

January 2019 UPDATE:   After nearly 20 years, Disney has announced they will be retiring the Illuminations: Reflections of Earth Fireworks show at the end of summer 2019.  They have released an announcement of the fireworks spectacular to replace Illuminations .

They have the infrastructure already in place. So it’s a pretty sure bet that Disney will continue to offer a fireworks cruise, once the new Epcot fireworks show is up and running.   All other components described here would probably remain the same.  What a cool way it would be to witness the new fireworks spectacular from the lake!

I’ve been watching Epcot’s IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth for years.  I love it.  The soundtrack still gives me goosebumps at the dénouement.  But I’ll be honest.  I’ve reached the point where I can take-it-or-leave-it.  Or I should say, I’m willing to miss it in favor of heading to the buses sooner, especially after a long Park day.

However, this was a WHOLE NEW BALLGAME.  My entire family was excited.  But we really had no idea how amazing it would be!  We all agreed it was a absolutely and incredible Disney Must-Do experience.

Disney World Fireworks Cruise Epcot IllumiNations

As I mentioned previously, my family was hosted on this particular Disney World fireworks cruise.  But this is one of those outstanding experiences that I absolutely would do on my own dime.  So we definitely plan to do this again in the future.

Epcot IllumiNations Disney Fireworks Cruise ~ Video

The view from right there sitting on the water was so breathtaking, I took this short video to capture my favorite portion of Epcot IllumiNations.  Enjoy!

Disney Fireworks Cruise ~ Rates

You can book a cruise reservations by phone, by calling 1-407-WDW-PLAY.  Details for a Magic Kingdom cruise vary a little, with two sizes of pontoon boats available.  But the IllumiNations cruise is a boat that holds up to 10 guests. As of 2017, this “specialty cruise” starts at $349.00, and includes a driver.

Why you should consider a Disney Fireworks Cruise in your Disney World trip planning! Here are tips on what is included in this fabulous experience, along with a video from Epcot IllumiNations fireworks cruise. Kids and adults will love this experience.

My family was hosted for the IllumiNations fireworks cruise, as part of the Take Me Fishing event at Walt Disney World.  All opinions are my own.

‘How Disney Built America’: Unpacking the Magic of Every Episode in History Docuseries

Walt Disney poses for a portrait circa 1955 in Los Angeles, California.

‘Parish’ Is Out for Justice in the Explosive Season Finale

Will Gray be forced to get his hands dirty? Get a sneak peek at the final episode of the AMC series.

Once upon a time, Walt Disney was just a regular American struggling to succeed. He goes from little guy to big cheese (above, circa 1955) with the help of a mouse in How Disney Built America , six-part History Channel docuseries featuring original dramatic re-creations, expert interviews and archival material.

Here, we sketch out each hourlong episode ahead of the April 28 series premiere.

Episode 1: The Birth of Mickey (April 28)

In 1920s Hollywood, a young Walt loses creative control over his first successful cartoon character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, to a powerful middleman. Walt and animator Ub Iwerks create Mickey Mouse and make the first synchronized sound animated short, Steamboat Willie . It’s a hit.

Episode 2: Animation Expansion (May 5)

At his studio, Walt still faces soaring costs, mounting criticism and tight deadlines. He pushes the limits of technology to create the first full-length animated feature with sound and color, 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs , giving rise to the billion-dollar business of animated films.

Episode 3: building disneyland (may 12).

If you’ve ever spun around in the teacup ride, you’ve felt how dizzying it was for Walt to transform 160 acres in booming Southern California into “The Happiest Place on Earth.” See the excitement and challenges of devising the park, a 1940s dream that was made real, opening in 1955.

Episode 4: Merchandise Madness (May 19)

Beginning in the 1930s, Kay Kamen turned Disney characters into megastars by licensing their images for products. He created the famous watch with Mickey’s hands pointing out the time!

Episode 5: Walt Disney World and EPCOT (June 2)

In the ’60s, Walt tries his hand at urban planning to build a utopian “city of the future,” EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomor row), but his untimely death in 1966 leaves Roy Disney to honor his brother’s dream. The plan evolves into Florida’s Walt Disney World.

Episode 6: Imagineering the Future (June 9)
