Australia's Last Frontier

Cape york tours.

Cape York Peninsula is one of the last unspoilt frontiers in Australia. Even now, it remains a wild sparsely populated wilderness that is accessable only in the dry season from May until October and then only by 4WD vehicles for most of the way. To travel overland to the Cape is still a true adventure allowing travellers to see the unspoilt and diverse scenery, wildlife and birdlife at close range.

Reaching the tip of Cape York and overlooking the myriad of exotic and unspoilt islands, is truly an awe inspiring experience. With only these beautiful waters between Australia and Papua New Guinea, one can truly appreciate the experience of standing on the most northern point of the continent.

About Cape York Peninsula

Where is cape york.

Cape York Australia is a large tract of largely unpopulated land, which covers the far northern part of Queensland. It includes ‘the tip’, an iconic landmark which is Australia’s most northern point, overlooking the nearby Torres Strait Islands.

Mostly flat, much of Cape York’s landscape has been left as it was for hundreds of thousands of years, except for several large cattle stations and some small isolated communities. It includes the historic township of Cooktown, which is a 3.5 hour drive from Cairns, and Weipa which is a bauxite mining community.

At its widest point, Cape York Peninsula is 430km across, which is from the Bloomfield River on its eastern coastline to Kowanyama on the west coast. It’s 660km ‘tall’ from the southern border of the Cook Shire to the tip. Roads of varying quality criss-cross Cape York. 4WD is the recommended mode of transport. There’s several remote air strips, the largest of which is serviced daily in Weipa and Horn Island in the Torres Strait Islands.

Tour Details

We couldn’t be more excited for this wildlife tour! For years we have wanted to run a tour specifically to find & photograph wildlife and nature! Finally it’s here: the tour designed for wildlife enthusiasts!

This is a very special Cape York tour, visiting some of the best natural regions in Cape York. We will spend our time looking for wildlife, whether that be birds, reptiles, mammals, insects or other! You will get to observe animal behaviour up close, while disconnecting and listening to the sounds of the bush. There will have countless opportunities to photograph our wonderful fauna and flora. And the best part, you will be with an awesome group of like minded people!

Starting from (& returning to) Cairns, you will first head north through “the most extraordinary place on Earth” according to Sir David Attenborough! We then spend 2 nights in ‘Queensland’s Kakadu’, aka Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park. Rinyirru is a massive wetland ecosystem, host to exceptional birdlife!

We will be treated to an authentic Welcome to Country in Coen, with cultural activities. And then, after a few days camping you can relax in a room for 2 nights at the Greenhoose, nestled right beside Kutini-Payamu NP. Here you will have 2 full days (and nights) to find some of the most exceptional wildlife Australia has to offer! After a couple nights in luxury, we head down to the beautiful Chilli Beach for a night’s camp. We then head south to Musgrave, to spot some very rare, endemic parrots! Our last day will see us having an easy drive, mostly on bitumen again, back to Cairns.

This tour requires a good level of fitness as there will be many walks looking for wildlife as well as night spotlighting and drives. The tour is mostly camping, with a couple nights in cabins.

Departure & Return Locations

Price includes.

  • Tented accommodation
  • Breakfast, lunch & dinner, including 3 dinners out!
  • Sleeping equipment (tall tent, high density foam mattress, sheets/blanket, pillow)
  • 2 nights in cabins! See below*
  • All entrance fees to National Parks, ferries & camps
  • Incredible wildlife opportunities!

As inflation and the cost of goods and services increases, we have had to adjust our prices. We have always tried to keep our prices low for you, however, prices have risen across the board and we must keep up. Fuel prices have risen significantly, increasing the prices of food and other resources in remote areas due to freight costs. Many of our accommodation and tour providers have doubled, and sometimes tripled in price. In 2023, all dinners out have also been included in your tour price.

We also pride ourselves in maintaining our vehicles impeccably and paying our guides well.  Our staff are up there with the highest paid tour guides & cooks in Australia. And despite what you may have heard, road conditions in Cape York and the Top End are as bad as they always have been, and there is still a LOT of bad dirt.

We have recently conducted research on all other companies going to Cape York (& a few Gulf Savannah), including motorbikes, tagalongs and tour trucks.  We found that we are still the best value in Cape York, whilst maintaining our 5-star rating.

We are just outlining this as we believe in being transparent and we hope you can appreciate the immense value of these remote, outback tours. We hope you will continue to support us, our staff and our dream.

Please read before booking!

The Greenhoose has limited rooms available for our number of guests.  The basic room price is included in your tour.  If you choose another room, the price showing for that room will already have the base price taken off it.  The availability of rooms will be on a first come first serve basis. As there is no way of restricting the number in the system, I may have to get back to you on what rooms are available after you book.

In summary there are currently:

  • 2 x family shared facility rooms with one queen bed and one king single bed
  • 1 x family ensuite with one queen bed and one king single bed
  • 4 x single shared facility rooms
  • 12 6 x double ensuite rooms
  • Daintree River Croc & Wildlife Cruise with Solar Whisper!
  • 2 nights at Rinyirru (Lakefield) NP for Wildlife Spotting
  • Culture in Coen: Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony, dancing or cultural activities
  • Famous Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) NP
  • Chilli Beach & Portland Roads
  • Endemic birds, reptiles, mammals & more only found in Cape York
  • Camp fires & excellent meals!

What to expect

Cockatours is a family-owned business who aim to create unforgettable experiences for everyone. We would love to share our experience and knowledge of the remote top end of Australia with you and show you places, experiences and wildlife you never thought existed!  We run smaller tours with a maximum of 15 (Isuzu) or 19 (MAN) people so it still feels private and we expect everyone to be friendly, considerate and work together as a team to create a positive experience for all.

As a small business, we have the ability to be flexible and use this as an advantage for creating great experiences and adventures. Tours are subject to change due to weather, road conditions, unexpected circumstances and the guide’s decision to best suit the group.

If you decide to join us on an adventure, please note the following:

  • be prepared for true bush camps; some have no facilities – we have a bush toilet and shower for these occasions
  • some camp toilets can be a 100-200m walk from your tent
  • tented accommodation: light, easy to setup, 6ft tall
  • team work; everyone helps clean, cook, pack & set up
  • we offer amazing camping meals to suit large groups - our meals are raved about!
  • we have limited access to shops, services or phone reception (Cape York is mostly Telstra only)
  • our itinerary is a guideline. We may alter the tour throughout the season if we feel there is a better option or an activity is not worth your time
  • we have a great reputation to uphold and endeavour to provide an amazing tour every time!

Tour Specific Notes

  • Bring water bottles (or small backpacks with bladders) with a capacity up to 3L for some of the hikes. Staying hydrated in the tropics is critical to feeling good, avoiding headaches and enjoying your tour!
  • You must have hiking shoes (preferably with ankle support) for this tour. If you are an experienced hiker/bushwalker, go with what you normally wear and are comfortable with.
  • Please bring a head lamp with you. They will save you an enormous amount of angst at night time around camp. You will also need them for cave walks. We have a couple of models we recommend and stock in our ‘truck shop’ for $30-40. Clients in the past have replaced their BCF specials with these and been stoked with them. We make no profit on these, we just want our clients to fully enjoy their camping experience!
  • There are lots of walks on these tours. You never have to do a walk, however, to make the most of this trip, completing all (non-optional) walks is highly recommended. We would highly recommend a decent level of fitness or starting morning/afternoon walks at home before this tour commences. You should be able to walk at least 3km over uneven ground, with elevation change to make the most of this tour.

Your Guides

  • Rossy, the Cockatours owner, will be running this wildlife tour alongside Joe! This is a special wildlife tour and absolutely requires 2 ecologists & guides! Rossy worked as an ecologist in Cape York for 6 years, helping Indigenous rangers from Coen and Aurukun manage their feral pig populations to improve the health of their country and wetlands and reduce sea turtle nest predation by feral pigs. For the past 5 years he has run tours in Cape York & the NT. He is a passionate photographer and offers lessons to help people learn how to use their camera and understand photography. He is passionate about reptiles and was once a snake catcher in Townsville, but these days prefers to take photos and reduce risk!
  • Returning in 2023 is Joe, a very enthusiastic and upbeat guide! Joe is absolutely fantastic, and the reviews mentioning him are a testament to his ability! "G’day, my name is Joe and I’m one of the guides for Cockatours in 2022. I grew up in the bush surrounded by nature and wildlife, fuelling my desire to learn more and to teach people about our natural world from a young age. After finishing high school, I went on to study zoology, ecology and marine biology, which has led me to a variety of ecocentric occupations. In the past I’ve travelled to several different parts of the world in search of rare and wonderful animals and experiences. You can usually find me outdoors looking for wildlife, playing the drums or hanging out in my reptile room at home. I hope to spin a few yarns, have a few laughs and build your appreciation for some of the weird and wacky creatures that call Cape York home."

Rossy the Guide Next to cycad

Our 15-seater tour truck, Zeus , takes us on incredible adventures! He is equipped with comfortable seating perfect for off-road driving, a good sound system and USB charging ports. The air-conditioning works extremely well and the tinted windows in the cab help keep the glare & heat out! Our trailer is our portable kitchen with even more storage which is perfect for any event; short/long term camping trips, weekend getaways, the list goes on!  There’s even a large awning for those rare rainy days!

On camping tours, we take a maximum of 15 people and there is a fridge for clients in the trailer for your own  drinks!

Camping Equipment

We are very particular about a few things that make a trip comfortable; good food and sleeping gear are two of those. We do our best to maintain our gear to a high standard and turn over our camping gear frequently.

Our single or duo tents are 6.5 ft high, very spacious and easy to put up. The fly can also be removed, making it a big mozzie dome, for those starry nights so you can watch the stars go over head!

The mattresses are high-quality, high-density dunlop foam mattresses that stack (not rollable) and are comfy! We have sheets and micro-fibre blankets (NO yucky sleeping bags) for bedding and a mattress case as well. The pillows are real pillows and are covered with hygienic pillow covers as well as a standard pillow case. We even supply bath mats for the front of your tent!  The chairs and mattresses vary between trucks due to storage space.

Compliance status

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability.

To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.

This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.

Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.

If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:

Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.

Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.

Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over seven different coloring options.
  • Animations – person with epilepsy can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Browser and assistive technology compatibility

We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers).

Notes, comments, and feedback

Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs. There may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to

7 reasons to ride Cairns to Cape York on this new luxe motorcycle tour

Steve Madgwick

Travel Journalist

Time

| THIS ARTICLE WAS CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH Cape York Motorcycle Adventures |

This article was created in partnership with cape york motorcycle adventures, cairns to cape york: four words guaranteed to hypnotise any australian off-road motorcycle rider into an open-mouthed, drool-producing daydream..

However, until now, relatively few people tackle this epic ride which traverses the wondrous wilds of tropical North Queensland , bound for the continent’s northernmost tip.

Too hard, too expensive and a logistical nightmare, are some of the excuses you’ll hear. Well, Cape York Motorcycle Adventures’ new seven-day Cape York return guided tour might just leave these excuses in your rear-view mirror. Here’s why Cairns to Cape York by motorcycle need not be just a daydream any longer.

Cape York to Cairns Motorbike Adventures

Take in the beauty of Cairns to Cape York with Cape York Motorcycle Adventures.

1. You don’t have to rough it on a Cairns to Cape York adventure

Most Cairns to Cape York motorcycle trips require you to flop onto a blow-up mattress or camp stretcher deep, deep in the Cape’s wilderness each night. Perfect, if camping under starry tropical skies is your thing, but for those looking for a little bit of ‘Cape luxury’, this seven-day tour offers way more creature comforts than creatures keeping you awake.

At the end of each day’s epic ride, a comfy bed, steaming hot shower and substantial sit-down feast await. Naturally, a cold one or two will be available to stimulate the evening’s storytelling.

‘Luxury’ in a Cape York context can mean anything from wood-fired pizza by the water, to sleeping soundly on a remote cattle station.

Enjoy hot showers and cold beers at the end of each day.

2. You’ll drive further with greater comfort on new adventure bikes

Small and light dirt bikes might seem perfect for Cape York’s varied and challenging terrain – until day two, when your bum and wrists might have something to say about it.

This is why Cape York Motorcycle Adventures provides ‘adventure’ motorcycles for its seven-day tour. The CFMOTO 800MT is a nice balance of off-road capability and big-bike power, offering a wrist-friendly upright riding position and tush-saving touring-style seat.

The grunty two-cylinder engine helps you eat up the big distances required to get from Cairns to the Cape and back in a week (around 2,500 kilometres, following a less technical route than the one-way, smaller-bike tours).

3. You’ll see the Daintree (and other Aussie icons) on your way to Cape York

Making it to ‘the Tip’ is the ultimate goal, but the Aussie icons along the journey up and back rival the destination. Burbling along sun-rayed tracks through the Daintree and Cape Tribulation – where the rainforest and Great Barrier Reef rendezvous – is a life highlight.

This World-Heritage-listed realm has pay-offs around every bend, whether it be standing under the plunging magnificence of Bloomfield Falls or stealing a glimpse of the Southern Cassowary or teeny-weeny Musky-rat Kangaroo. A few hundred kilometres north, the millennia-old Quinkan Indigenous rock art site at Laura may just blow your mind, too.

4. Cape York Motorcycle Adventures saves you thousands

Let’s be honest, ladies and gentlemen, riding Cairns to Cape York under your own steam is a one-way ticket to re-mortgaging the house.

You’ll be spending minimum $15,000 for a decent adventure bike, plus as much as you want to spend on boots, a helmet and panniers. You’ll need somewhere to sleep, so stash some cash for a tent and sleeping bag or a week’s worth of food and lodging, plus a few thousand kilometres’ worth of fuel (if you know where to find it).

However, on Cape York Motorcycle Adventures’ 7-Day Cape York Return everything is served to you on a platter. Your bike, accommodation, food and fuel are all included and they can even provide all the safety gear, too. Feel free to ride your own motorcycle though.

Have everything you need included on this Cape York Motorcycle Adventures tour.

5. You’ll get time off to appreciate Cape York’s magnificence

First things first: you’ve made it. Climb down onto the rocky point and snap the group shot next to the sign confirming that “you are standing at the northernmost point of the Australian continent”.

You’ve definitely earned a breather, so this tour factors in a day and night on stunning Punsand Beach, close to the Tip, before heading south again. Throw out a line and battle with a barramundi (keeping an eye out for ‘salties’) or just drink in a few beverages and the tropical serenity, before grabbing a nanna nap in your beach hut. For a higher perspective over the Cape, spend a little extra and book a scenic helicopter flight.

6. Cape York Motorcycle Adventures guides have unrivalled local knowledge

Cape York Motorcycle Adventures’ Roy Kunda has been exploring the Cape’s termite-mound-fringed red roads and bush tracks for decades, so be prepared to ride where few before you have.

Take a dip in the crystal-clear and croc-free waters of secluded Fruit Bat Falls in remote Apudthama/Jardine River National Park. Detour along bush tracks that take you to sombre plane wrecks dating back to World War II. The experienced guides know easier ways to tackle the famed Overland Telegraph Track (including the infamous Gunshot if you’re game).

And, naturally, they take you to all the best ‘watering holes’, including the thoroughly eccentric Lion’s Den Hotel, located in a swathe of rainforest south of Cooktown.

7. You don’t have to be an expert rider to do this Cairns to Cape York tour

You do need a full motorcycle licence, a can-do attitude and, preferably, some off-road riding experience. This is no ride in the park – with river crossings and sand riding involved – but the guides will get you through it.

They can modify the route to your experience/ability, and there’s always a ‘sweep’ rider behind, so take your sweet time and ride safely within your limits. Crucially, you won’t be loaded with luggage (thanks to the support truck) so it’s just you and your un-laden adventure bike versus The Cape.

Lastly, this is no guys-only adventure, with an ever-increasing number of women motorcyclists hopping on this ride of a lifetime.

Be prepared for some hard yakka during the day.

More information:

Prices for Cape York Motorcycle Adventures’ ‘7-Day Cape York Return’ start at $7139. Tours begin in Cairns and the price includes the use of an adventure bike, protective gear, plus accommodation, meals, and fuel (alcohol not included). Airfare to and accommodation in Cairns is not included.

The Cape Cod Hotels for Your Next New England Getaway

Here’s where to stay in Cape Cod.

cape york luxury tours

There’s so much to love about Cape Cod, because what’s better than iconic lobster rolls, idyllic beaches, charming shingled homes and a wonderfully laidback seaside atmosphere? Cape Cod is a quintessential New England beach destination, and while the hook-shaped Massachusetts peninsula is most popular for  summer getaways during the warmer months , it’s always a cozy retreat, no matter the time of year. That said, summer isn’t *that* far away, so why not start thinking about all those weekend trips in the not-so-distant future?

Cape Cod is composed of several different towns, each with their own distinct vibe and culture. There’s something for everyone in Cape Cod, from Hyannis and Falmouth to Chatham and all the way out to Wellfleet and Provincetown, at the very last edge of the outer Cape. It’s worth taking multiple trips to the Cape just to explore all the different areas, though you can also take a day outing from the Cape to the much-adored summer locales of Nantucket and  Martha’s Vineyard. Perhaps you'll even get some good whale-watching in while en route.

If you’re planning a trip to Cape Cod, then why not stay at the best of the best? Below, see the ultimate travel guide for the most luxurious Cape Cod hotels and resorts to book for your next getaway.

The Best Hotels and Resorts for a Getaway to Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Wequassett resort & golf club, chatham inn, the mansion at ocean edge resort & golf club, chatham bars inn, candleberry inn.

  • 2173 MA-28, Harwich, MA 02645

Wequassett is a true five-star hotel that dates back to the 1920s, when it opened as the Wequassett Inn. It’s now a sprawling 27-acre waterfront property, with 120 accommodations including suites, cottages, villas and private homes, many of which have private balconies and ocean views, and all of which are all outfitted with Molton Brown toiletries and free wifi. The beach resort features two outdoor pools, tennis courts, a fitness center and, of course, the neighboring 18-hole golf course at Cape Cod National Golf Club. Those who want to spend more time on the water can sign up for a private kayak tour or go all out with a sailboat rental. You can also rent a bicycle from the luxury hotel and explore one of the bike trails. There are multiple dining options at the family-friendly, pet-friendly resort; the most upscale on-site restaurant is Twenty-Eight Atlantic, which serves New England seafood-focused dishes. There’s also the waterfront Outer Bar & Grille, in addition to a cozy bar, Thoreau’s. For an al fresco dining experience, you can order food at The Verandahs and eat by the fire pits, and you can also eat poolside on the Pleasant Bay Terrace.

  • 359 Main Street, Chatham, MA 02633

Chatham Inn is a charming Relais & Châteaux property right on Main Street, just a short walk to the restaurants and shops in the idyllic town. While Chatham Inn in its current form opened in 2015, the property dates back to 1830. The modern-day, adults-only boutique hotel is composed of just 18 guest rooms, each of which is uniquely decorated. The real draw here is Cuvée (this is, after all, the only Relais & Châteaux property in Cape Cod), the on-site fine dining restaurant that serves a New England-focused menu.

  • 2907 Main Street, Brewster, MA 02631

Ocean Edge Resort is actually a massive, 429-acre property in Brewster, and while the entire resort is composed of 342 rooms, those who want a more elevated experience will likely want to book one of the 122 rooms in the Mansion, as opposed to the Villages side, which is better for those traveling with large parties or children, with convenient family suites. There’s something for everyone at this oceanfront property; there are multiple swimming pool areas, with both indoor pools, outdoor pools and hot tubs, in addition to an 18-hole golf course. You definitely won’t be lacking in activities, as there are nine tennis courts and 26 miles of hiking and bike trails, paddle boarding and kayaking. The 700-foot private beach is a true gem; it isn’t available to the entire resort, but is open to those staying in the Mansion. There are three fitness center options, as well as a full-service spa. While heading off-property is always nice, there are plenty of dining options on-site, too, with four main restaurants throughout the Mansion and Villages sides, in addition to bars and casual beach eateries. This is also a great option if you want to see Cape Cod in the off-season, as while many Cape Cod resorts are only open during the summer months, this beachfront property welcomes guests year-round.

  • 297 Shore Road, Chatham, MA 02633

Chatham Bars Inn was built as a hunting lodge for wealthy Bostonians back in 1914. It’s now a charming waterfront hotel, with 217 rooms spread throughout the 25 acre property. There are four separate restaurants and bars found on-site, and it’s a real farm-to-table dining situation, as Chatham Bars Inn operates its own farm, located just a short drive from the resort, which serves as the hotel’s source for all seasonal produce. There’s also a spa with five treatment rooms, all of which are equipped with private showers and a hydrotherapy tub. There’s also an outdoor relaxation pool and a Jacuzzi. What really stands out, though, is that the spa uses a private signature product line that features ingredients like homegrown botanicals from the property’s farm and honey from the beehive.

  • 1882 Main St, Brewster, MA 02631

The historic Candleberry Inn is technically a bed and breakfast, not a full-fledged hotel, but the critically-acclaimed spot is well-deserving of your attention. The property is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, with certain buildings dating back to the 1700s. The charming B&B is composed of just nine guest rooms, which are spread out among the Main House and Carriage House. All the accommodations have a low-key luxury aesthetic, and are outfitted with Frette robes and Malin + Goetz toiletries, and some of the rooms have private fireplaces and patios. This is an inn, not a massive hotel, so there's no on-site spa or restaurant, but the B&B will organize in-room massages and other amenities if you so choose. It's located right in Brewster, and it's less than a 15-minute walk to the beach.
