Was in cochin for a business meet, selected Hotel Luminara for my stay for 04 days, it was an amazing experience, well-appointed rooms, MIAM their restaurant serves all verities of food with an authentic touch, also it was great experience to teat their Triple Biryani Thali with a very reasonable pricing. Great service and helpful staffs. Liquid state is the highlight of the place which serves tapas style snacks and wide range of drinks. It was completely official trip but back to room it as always a relaxing moments.

A well located Business class hotel in the heart of the city Cochin. Walkable distance from town railway station and to metro station from the hotel, they have a wonderful swimming pool a best place to relax after a busy office day. Good spread of breakfast with the best on ground service will always makes your day good. They service good continental food with a proper service. I’am Irfan was in cochin as part of a marriage group and the rooms were booked with The Luminara, a new hotel with all modern arrangements, big parking area, nice restaurant MIAM, Liquid State for Snacks & Drinks, Swimming pool, good in room facilities with safety locker, tea coffee supplies, bathroom supplies also the best available. We really had a wonderful time here and will definitely come back with family in my next visit to cochin.

Historical Importance of Kochi

The known history of Kochi dates back to the 14th century, when we were under the colonial rule. In fact Kochi was the first European colony occupied by the Portuguese. After the Portuguese, the city was occupied by Dutch and British respectively, and made it a Princely state. Since it was the major port city, Kochi was considered to be the main center for the spice trade during that period. Greeks, Romans, Jews, Syrians, Arabs and Chinese were the main traders of spices. According to historians, the Kingdom of Kochi came into existence during the 12th century after the Chera Kingdom.

The specialty of this place was that many traders who came to this land, Jews being the prominent ones, later got settled here for various reasons. From the Portuguese rule Kochi went into the hands of the Dutch and later British. The Anglo-Dutch treaty of 1814 forced the Dutch rule to handover Kochi to the British rule. Under the British rule, the modern city started to develop with the large modern port and the largest man-made island called the Willington Island.

During the post independence era, the Kochi Maharaja agreed to join the Indian union and then in the year 1948 the royal state of Travancore-Kochi merged into the newly formed Indian Union. On your Kochi Tour , take the time out and do explore its historical grandeur.

Is FASTag taking a ‘toll’? Kochi might say yes

KOCHI: Are you in the habit of checking your FASTag balance routinely? If not, how would you know if you’ve not been remitting toll charges for travel not done?

A car owner in Kochi was surprised when he realised that toll charge had been deducted from his FASTag account, though he hadn’t passed through the toll gate at Kumbalam. The incident occurred last Sunday. Bijoy Chandran, a marketing executive, said he and his family were in the city the entire day and never ventured out towards Kumbalam side.

“I was checking the messages on my phone in the evening and was taken aback to find Rs 45 deducted at Kumbalam toll plaza at 11.32am. I logged into the application and found the amount had indeed been debited from my account. I had not travelled in that direction that day,” he said.

A complaint was registered and CCTV footage at the plaza was examined. This confirmed that it was another car that had passed through the plaza at the exact time when the charge was deducted.

“It was a technical glitch. The scanner misread the RFID number. The FASTag account of the vehicle that passed was ......3A0 and the charge was deducted from the account ....3E0,” said a toll plaza employee.

“How can machines get it wrong? If I hadn’t checked my SMS I would have never known about it,” Bijoy said.

The employee admits that such instances are not a one-off. “There have been instances when FASTag recharges via online or through mobile apps have been credited to other accounts. And it’s only when drivers pass through toll plazas that they realise their accounts lack sufficient balance,” he said.

For whom the alarm bells toll

1) In the event of an erroneous payment record, call and register a complaint with customer care: the number is displayed on the back of the tag

2) Provide vehicle number and time of deduction of toll charge to demand ‘chargeback’

3) If you receive no reply or there has been no refund in 15 days, contact the toll plaza. (Contact number of Kumbalam toll plaza: 7025277806)
