Far-flung from the crowds with not another island in sight, Mengalum is a true hidden gem boasting powder-white sand that slopes gently into a stunning shade of turquoise. The beauty doesn’t end at the limits of land. The shallow water splendors can best be best experienced with a mask and a pair of fins! You don’t have to go deep to get acquainted with the underwater critters here.

The superb visibility here gives way to exciting marine life sightings. Mengalum is abundant in groupers, snappers, mackerels and other reef fishes. With a majority of hard corals, like, staghorn corals, lettuce coral, table corals. Clownfishes, butterfly fishes and cleaner fishes and butterfly fishes can often be spotted swimming around the flourishing corals, which are big, intact and in good condition.

Far from the crowds of the city and with no other islands in sight, Mengalum Island sits in isolation 45 minutes away from Kota Kinabalu. This 2 day 1 night package will involve 3 snorkeling sessions amongst the reefs and a luxurious stay at the Mengalum Island Resort. Known for its superb visibility, incredible marine life such as groupers, snappers, and mackerels can be spotted. Big hard corals in healthy condition will also be in plain sight!

Important Note

• This tour package is based on join-in basis of shared guide and transportation. Private Guide or Tour is available upon request at a reasonable fee. Please inform us when making the bookings.
• Check-in and check-out times for most hotels and resorts are between 14:00 hrs (2pm) and 12:00 hrs (12pm) respectively. However, it may vary depending on the accommodation. Please kindly check with your respective accommodation for more accurate information.
• Under the regulation from Malaysia's Ministry of Tourism and Culture, foreign tourists are required to pay a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX) at a flat rate of MYR10 per room per night regardless of the accommodation's star rating and to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents are exempted from the TTX and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in.
• Your safety is always our top priority. Should weather or sea conditions deem it unsafe to proceed for this tour, we reserve the right to change or cancel the tour. Refunds will be made accordingly.
• Departure time is approximate and may vary due to traffic condition and hotel distance. Kindly check with the operator as stated on the voucher should you need further assistance.
• We reserve the right to alter routes, timetables, itineraries and accommodation should conditions beyond our control render it necessary.

Additional Information

• The tour is conducted by Mengalum Island Resort Operators.
• Boat journey to the island may not be suitable for individuals suffering from the following ailments: heart or lung conditions, recent surgery, back or spinal surgery, back problems / injury / fracture, arthritis, osteoporosis or other similar spinal and pelvic diseases.
• Pregnant women are also not recommended as boat rides tend to be bumpy depending on sea conditions. If you are suffering from similar issues as mentioned above, kindly consult with your physician before enrolling in this activity.
• Kindly take note that the safekeeping of your belongings at all times is your responsibility. We do not encourage guests to bring along electronic devices, valuables, and important documents.
• Due to the adventurous nature of the tour, children under 5 years of age are not encouraged to participate in the tour.
• The Liability Release Form must be understood and signed by the participant before the tour commences.
• Your belongings may get wet so do bring along waterproof bags to keep your belongings nice and dry!
• Before going out to have some fun under the sun, do bring along a SPF50+ sunscreen / sunblock and an umbrella to protect your skin from sunburns.
• Though it is never expected, tipping is always appreciated

Situated 56 kilometers northwest of Kota Kinabalu--one-and-a-half hours away from Kota Kinabalu via speedboat--is the awe-inspiring Mengalum Island. Once only renowned amongst anglers and deep-sea fishing enthusiasts, Mengalum Island has recently become more popular amongst tourists and holidaymakers thanks to its dreamy tropical beauty.

Fringed by a stretch sparkling white sandy beach and surrounded by the scenic view of crystal clear waters and blue skies looming in the horizon, Mengalum Island is a beach bunny’s paradise! If you’re planning to go there on your next outing, here are the list of things you might enjoy on Mengalum Island:

1. Soak up the sun!

When on a beautiful island with a gorgeous beach and swaying palm trees, put away your cell phone, put on your sunnies, lie back on your beach towel and relax. Just be sure to apply and reapply sunscreen generously!

2. Swim, snorkel & dive

Another must-do activity on Mengalum Island is to take advantage of its warm and beautifully clear waters and go for a swim! With excellent visibility, the waters surrounding Mengalum Island is a snorkeling and scuba diving haven. Keep an eye out for corals in vibrant technicolour and bubbly marine life!

3. Birdwatching

The 232-acre Mengalum Island is a dedicated sanctuary for migratory birds and has been gazetted as a wildlife and conservation area. If you are a birding enthusiast, you will chance upon many species of birds as well as other wildlife gallivanting about on the island.

4. Take a long walk

At 4 kilometers square in size, it takes about an hour for the average person to walk around and explore the island. The island is also home to a giant anchor--a relic which is a two-meter long and situated about 10 minutes’ walk away from the shoreline. Covered in lush greeneries, a walk on Mengalum Island would be a fun and enlightening affair, just don’t forget to drink lots of water while you’re at it!

5. Have a picnic

Surrounded by great sights and sounds, all you need for a perfect outing is great food and company! You can choose to bring your own food to Mengalum Island, just remember to clean up when you’re done. It’s our responsibility to keep the island well and preserved by not littering.

Tipping and travel insurance

Casual wearing, change of clothes, swimsuit, towel, sunblock, waterproof camera, cash for additional water sports, own drinking bottle and first aid kit.

• For safety reason, we retain the right to cancel the trip if the weather and sea condition deemed unfavorable as suggested by the boat service personnel.
• Boat snorkeling can only be carried out at surrounding area of the islands under companion of experienced personnel and instructor.
• Extra fees will be charge on the spot in case of losing life jacket (RM100) and snorkeling mask (RM150).
• The is a Sit-In-Coach(SIC) basis tour - sharing transportation, you might joint with tourist from different country. Please notify us upon booking if you are looking for private tour,subject to available and surcharge might be applied.
• The pickup time is for reference only, actual time may be vary depends on number of visitors, distance, season, weather and road conditions, should be within 15 minutes.
• Transportation surcharge: Outskirts Area Hotels – RM30 per person; One Borneo Shopping mall - RM15 per person.
• If you are happy and satisfied with the journey and the tour guide service, it's always a nice way to express your appreciation with tipping (option), OR some words of thanks are also welcome.
• The itinerary is for reference only and is subject to any necessary changes in accordance with local requirements.
• Pickup service will be provided from the hotel/hostel/lodge that you are staying. Please wait at lobby while the tour guide will find you when he/she arrive. Dropoff service will be provided after travelling, please notify us upon booking if your drop off location is different from pickup location.
• No compulsory tips (If you are happy and satisfied with the journey and the tour guide service, it's always a nice way to express your appreciation with tipping, OR words of thanks is good enough).
• Your safety is our top priority. Should the weather or sea conditions render it unsafe to proceed for this tour, Majestic Leisure & Tours Sdn Bhd reserves the right to change or cancel tour.
• Over 14 days (From date of departure) charge 30% of Tour fare.
• 7 days (From date of departure) charge 50% of tour fare.
• Less than 7 days (From date of departure) charge full tour fare.
• No refund for those tours which involve accommodation.

• Before tour commences, please ensured that your physical condition is suitable for participating in the said itinerary. You should evaluate your own health condition by telling the truth to travel agency to prevent any unforeseen circumstances. Please respect the local cultures, religions forbidden, obeying local ordinance laws and regulations, etc.; you may refer to our ( Tourism Safety Manual ) for further information and popularize the travel safety knowledge, abide the tourism civilization convention, and make the journey smooth.
• For your own personal and property safety, please avoid exposing valuables and large amounts of cash in public areas.
• The tours you joined may include high-risk items (such as swimming, snorkeling, rafting, climbing, diving, skiing, etc.), please travel according to your own conditions and fully refer to relevant announcements and suggestions from relevant local departments, weather forecast advise and other professional institutions before participating to ensure your own safety.
• It is recommended that you purchase the travel accident insurance and other insurance by yourself, short-term travel accident insurance and emergency rescue insurance that can protect your life, body, assets or related interests and so on during the trip.
• Please do read and understanding the terms and conditions stated in the tour agreements you signed (Confirmation of Itinerary) with the travel agency.
• After your tour booking is confirmed and successful, an email or messages notification will send to you together with the tour confirmation, payment in full settlement shall be make within the payment time limit specified in the itinerary confirmation letter. Failure to pay the full amount beyond the payment time limit, your tour booking will be deemed invalid and automatically cancelled.
