Fly around kenya and tanzania for safaris.

Flying across Kenya and Tanzania is the best way to experience the wildlife safaris we offer. Our Flying Safaris cover all major parks and reserves in Kenya and Tanzania . Our East African Flying Safaris are well-designed to allow you to fly to many destinations within our region.

Every Year, we plan Tanzania Luxury Safaris across the major parks and reserves including the Serengeti, Tarangire, Ruaha, and Selous Parks and Reserve.

A fly-in safari makes use of light aircraft to transfer you between locations within a safari destination, saving you time moving between attractions so that you can see and do more on your vacation.

The best thing about flying from location to location – aside from the advantages of getting from point A to point B quickly and efficiently – is that you gain an aerial overview of the landscapes you will explore on the ground.

What Should I Pack For My Kenya and Tanzania Safari

What should i pack for my african safari holiday.

As you plan your next East African Safari, there are a few things you will need to consider to pack for safari . There are a few things you will need to carry for your safari that will help you have a smooth trip.

Passport with all the required visas for every country your African safari travels to and through.

Some cash and bank cards (Forex and/or Credit Card). You can also use e-wallet apps these days to avoid carrying cards and cash.

Air tickets and travel vouchers for any pre-booked safari tours.

Vaccination certificates (yellow fever, COVID, etc) where required. Some vaccinations need to be taken well in advance (see Vaccinations needed for your African Safari)

Medication: malaria prophylactics if advised (see Malaria Made Simple) and any personal medication (also take your prescription in case of an emergency – your medication gets lost, wet, eaten by a baboon, etc)

Travel insurance policy details. Your policy number and the contact details for claims and emergencies. (Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for African safari bookings).

Cell phone. Most globetrotters travel with a smartphone to stay in touch with family and friends, connect to Wi-Fi, and for emergencies.

Copies of your important documents: as a precaution take a copy of your air tickets, travel insurance policy, vaccinations, visas, prescriptions, and passport.

A hard copy of your most important contact numbers in case you lose your phone.

Remember to pack as lightly as possible, as there are often luggage restrictions on local safari flights. Additionally, specific packing requirements may vary depending on the type of safari and the time of year you visit Kenya. Always check with your safari operator for any specific recommendations or requirements for your safari adventure.

What is the Best Time to Visit Tanzania and Kenya for Safaris

The best time to visit Tanzania and Kenya depends on what wildlife you’d like to spot. The country’s seasons and wildlife numbers are dictated by the rain, so you’ll have a slightly different experience depending on when you choose to visit.

The best time to visit Kenya for a safari is June-August. It’s comfortably cool, plus two million animals make the precarious Mara River crossing in June and July. Outside these months, you can track the migration elsewhere in the  Serengeti .

Kenya’s ‘green season’, between November and March, is much quieter. While there’s a chance of rain showers, it’s a fantastic time for birdwatching as migratory species arrive in their thousands. You’ll also see Great Migration herds with their newly born calves.

January, February, and July to October are the best time to travel to Kenya as it is the dry season – hot and cool respectively. November, December, and April to June are the short and long rainy months respectively. However, with a diverse geography and a moderate climate, Kenya is considered a great year-round safari and beach holiday destination.

  • Insect Repellent : Mosquitoes and other insects are common in some safari destinations, so pack a reliable insect repellent containing DEET. It’s also a good idea to bring a mosquito net for added protection, especially if you’re staying in tented camps.
  • Camera and Binoculars : Capture the incredible wildlife moments and breathtaking landscapes by bringing a camera with extra batteries and memory cards. Binoculars are also handy for observing wildlife from a distance and enhancing your safari experience.
  • Reusable Water Bottle : Staying hydrated is crucial, so bring a reusable water bottle to refill throughout your safari. It’s important to drink plenty of water, especially in the African heat.

Africa Kenya Safaris recommends packing light and focusing on essentials. Remember to check with us, your specific safari operator, for any additional packing recommendations based on the time of year and your chosen destinations.

What should I wear on a Kenya fly in safari?

When embarking on a Kenya fly-in safari, it’s important to dress appropriately to ensure comfort and practicality during your adventure. Here are some clothing suggestions to consider for your safari wardrobe:

  • Lightweight and Neutral-Coloured Clothing : Opt for lightweight and breathable clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. Neutral colours like khaki, beige, or earth tones blend well with the natural environment and help you blend in with the surroundings. Avoid bright colours or patterns that may distract or alarm wildlife.
  • Long-Sleeved Shirts and Trousers : Long-sleeved shirts and trousers provide protection against the sun, insects, and cooler evenings. They also offer an extra layer of defense against scratches or abrasions from vegetation or branches during bush walks.
  • Safari Hat : A wide-brimmed hat is essential to shield your face, neck, and ears from the sun’s rays. Look for a hat with a chin strap to keep it secure in case of gusty winds during game drives or walks.
  • Closed-Toe Shoes or Boots : Opt for comfortable closed-toe shoes or lightweight hiking boots for your safari activities. Choose footwear with good traction and ankle support to navigate uneven terrain and protect your feet from thorns or sharp objects.
  • Layers and Warm Clothing : Evenings and early mornings in some safari destinations can be cooler, so it’s advisable to pack a light sweater or jacket. Layering allows you to adjust your clothing according to temperature changes throughout the day.
  • Swimwear : If your fly-in safari includes a visit to a lodge or camp with a pool or nearby water bodies, don’t forget to pack your swimwear for a refreshing dip.

Remember, the key is to dress comfortably and practically while respecting the natural environment. Avoid excessive jewellery or accessories that may get in the way during activities. It’s also a good idea to check with us, your safari operator, for any specific dress code recommendations based on the time of year and destinations you’ll be visiting.

Nairobi to Shaba Game Reserve

Nairobi to Shaba Game Reserve

Upon arrival your guide will welcome and transport you from the airstrip to Joy’s Camp where you stay two nights with all meals, drinks and activities included.

Shaba Game Reserve

Shaba Game Reserve

Spend a day driving across the Shaba Game Reserve, the large natural spring and the Uaso river running through the centre of the reserve attract the parks diverse range of wildlife, from leopards to beisa oryx and gerenuk to aardwolfs.

Shaba National Reserve is a peaceful reserve made famous by Joy Adamson, author of the famous book and film, ‘Born Free’. Shaba, along with Samburu and Buffalo Springs are 3 small, adjoining savannah national reserves that lie on either side of the northern Ewaso Ngiro River. They were established in 1948 as the Samburu Isiolo Game Reserve.

The reserve is a semi desert, but attracts a good range of animals because of the river, which acts as a lifeline, while the combination of the arid desert, volcanic rocks and riverine forests make for a very interesting landscape.

Shaba Reserve has paid tribute to Joy Adamson in the form of a memorial, while her fascinating life is immortalised in the Joy Adamson Museum. Guests are invited to visit the museum as an addition to regular safari activities. There is also the opportunity to learn about the local culture and the Samburu tribe with seasonal village visits.

Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Today drive through the Masai Mara. While the wildebeest and zebra migration passes through the area July to October, the reserve offers superb game viewing all year round. If you happen to be in the park during the migration season a breath-taking way to experience one of nature’s most powerful displays is from a hot air balloon, for an extra surcharge. An incredible way to see the Kenyan landscape from the point of view of the native peregrine falcon

Maasai Mara

Maasai Mara

Explore the vast wilderness of the beautiful Mara North Conservancy and its collection of animals, birds and rich vegetation across the open savannah; the classic image many people picture when they think of Africa.

The Masai Mara National Reserve in the south western part of Kenya forms part of the greater eco-system that encompasses the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The Masai Mara is named for the Maasai people and the Mara River, which divides it. The wildlife is not confined within the reserve’s boundaries.

There are many conservancies to the north and east of the Masai Mara where, over centuries, an almost symbiotic relationship has developed between the Maasai people and the wildlife. The reserve is famous for its exceptional population of game and the migration of the wildebeest, which occurs here every year in July and August.

The entire area of the park is nestled within the enormous Great Rift Valley. The Masai Mara consists of open savannah, rolling grasslands and undulating hills. The western border is the Esoit Olooloo Escarpment of the Rift Valley, and wildlife tends to be most concentrated here as the swampy ground means that access to water is always good and tourist disruption is minimal. The easternmost border is 224km from Nairobi and hence it is the eastern regions which are most visited.

Fly-in Safaris

A guide to fly-in safaris in africa.

By definition, ‘ fly-in safaris ’ refer to the fact that your transfers to and from your final safari destination will be by plane rather than road. Fly-in safaris are a much more convenient and time-saving option, maximising your time on the ground and allowing you access to remote, off the beaten track parts of Africa Although typically more expensive than a drive-in trip, it can well worth spending the extra cash for such a sensational trip.

Typically, a fly-in safari package will include flights via a small Cessna or Caravan aircraft from the international airport where you first land – and the journey across beautiful landscapes on a tiny plane is a unique experience in itself. You’ll head out into the bush by air, sometimes landing on just a dirt airstrip in the middle of the wild, which adds another edge to the spirit of adventure. This is a really fantastic way to see the wilderness and you’ll get some awesome views from the air on the way.

Here, you’ll be met by a representative from your camp or lodge for a short to the accommodation to get settled in before getting stuck into game drives and the fun activities. At the end of the trip, you’ll transfer back to your departing airport by light aircraft, or choose to travel onwards to another camp on your itinerary, anywhere in Africa!

A fly-in safari is perfect for travellers who only have a few days to see the wild. Swap hours of tedious travel in a car for a short transfer flight and you’ll be saving all that time up to spend on game drives and at your camp where the real safari adventure lies. With a fly-in option, safari holidays don’t need to be epic 12 or 14-day vacations – you can see and do everything in a short break of three or four days.

If you do have plenty of time for a safari, a fly-in trip can also allow you to travel vast distances between different camps for more than one adventure on your holiday. Don’t limit yourself to one national park or even one country! Many fly-in safari packages allow you to cross borders and hundreds of miles for a really complete experience.

Another advantage of flying in is the destination – you can experience remote areas that would otherwise be inaccessible by jeep. Get away from the crowds and back to nature, right out in the bush. You can’t beat a sundowner looking out from your camp or lodge with nothing but the wilds of Africa in sight, stretching for miles over the horizon.

Top Fly-in Safari Destinations

Okavanga Delta

Experience the diversity and beauty of a Botswana safari with a trip to the Okavanga Delta and Linyanti. You’ll also get an amazing view from the skies over this unique area – the largest inland river delta in the world. If you have more time, you can also fly into South Africa for an extended trip.

Victoria Falls

Combine exploring national parks in Botswana with a transfer to Victoria Falls from Kasane for breath-taking views of the waterfall from your light aircraft. Spend the night here, with a trip on a boat the next day to get closer to the falls.

Central Africa

One of the advantages of a fly-in safari is that you can cover lots of ground in a short space of time. In just seven or 10 days, you could explore Zambia and Malawi on safari, combining a relaxing stay on Lake Malawi with game drives, boating and walking expeditions for a diverse experience.

The contrasts of landscape across Namibia make this one of the best choices for a fly-in trip. Take in the beauty of the scenery from the air, passing over Sossusvlei and the Namib Desert, as well as the coast and Swakopmund.

Tips for Fly-in Safaris

  • Even short trips of two or three days can be arranged with fly-in transfers.
  • Beware that the price will be a lot higher for this kind of safari – typically $200 to $500 more per person than a drive-in trip.
  • Work out the balance of cost against time saved on the ground for the best value for money – an eight or 10-hour drive can be covered in less than two hours by plane.
  • For maximum flexibility, look into a private tour for your family, or even as a couple.
  • As with all package deals, check what’s included before you book – excursions, meals and drinks can incur high costs at the lodge itself.
  • Remember that light aircraft are used for the transfer, which are very different from a jet – and not recommended for travellers with a fear of flying!
  • There will be limited cargo and cabin space on small planes – check the possible restrictions on weight and dimensions to ensure you don’t overpack.
  • If you need to save on a long trip, try a fly-drive hybrid safari where you travel by land vehicle between destinations but fly in and out from the major airport.

THE 5 BEST African Flying Safari Adventures (with Prices)

Observing untamed Africa from above on your African expedition is a wonderful one to include on your bucket list. An African flying safari offers an awe-inspiring view of wildlife, plains, and perhaps the best way to explore the topography of Africa. To soar above Africa’s finest wilderness areas on a private prop plane where the horizon stretches out before you is a thrilling experience.

Adventure lives in Africa with superb numbers of wildlife in Premier Reserves and national parks like Kruger National Park in South Africa, Ngorongoro and Serengeti in Tanzania, Masai Mara in Kenya, Murchison Fall in Uganda , and several others that are found in the continent. To circle above mist-shrouded beaches and famous safari lodges or fly ‘Out of Africa’-style in a biplane over the premier National Parks is an experience second to none. Raved over by safari connoisseurs, a flying safari is one of the best ways to access Africa’s wildest places with real adventure.

Scuba diving around Miavana

The fact that African flying safaris permit observing wildlife from each angle, you will garner new respect for the sheer size of these incredible spaces. On a flying safari, nothing is left to admire, be they ancient yawning deserts or lush wetlands that teem with great numbers of wildlife.

The experience is really wonderful!! Watching large herds of wildlife such as the elephants, buffalo, wildebeest that roam in National Parks in search of lush pastures and water. The lion, leopards, cheetah, and all other carnivores also roam in African National Parks such as the  Kruger National Park, Masai Mara, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, and several others is really a wonderful experience to watch them gallivanting from above!

Flying maximizes your time at each location, allows you to gain a real sense of the topography of the country, and takes you to the most pristine and untouched regions, far off the beaten track.

Why is a flying safari the best way to explore untamed Africa?

A flying safari in Africa is beyond just flying. The expedition offers a great opportunity to explore vast Africa within a short period of time. On your African flying safari, you can maximize your time at each location, allows you to gain a real sense of the topography of the country, and takes you to the most pristine and untouched regions, far off the beaten track, an experience that is the best and second to none. It is really perfect – as one doesn’t get involved in huge queues – rather just sailing through the procedures whilst watching everyone else queuing up endlessly! But it’s also about landing directly at the places I want to be – again, not wasting time.

Big Five Luxury Safari in Tanzania **Sustainable Approach to Travel Tour

Big Five Luxury Safari in Tanzania **Sustainable Approach to Travel

The tour was very well organized. Everything worked up quite well and everyone took good care of us. It was a magnificent time in Tanzania's wild nature. Also the tour company took care of all changes online (one day early arrival and extra shira tour booking) in a flexible and timely manner. Our Safari guide and driver Israel did really a great job. He worked hard to find all the animals for us as good as possible. This wasn't an easy job as we were there during rain season. He kept us safe and well informed all the time. We saw many wild animals such as cheetahs, lions, giraffes, buffalos, elephants, hippos, hyenas and of course tons of Gnus, zebras and all kinds of antilopes, monkeys and birds. We could even see some of the big five like the lion from eye to eye, roaming around less than 1m from our vehicle! Of course there's no guaranty of which wild animals you'll see as we're talking about natural parks, but you can rest assured the guides are doing their best to show you what nature is offering during your visit. All the staff in the hotels, parks and people in general were very kind and very welcoming! The food was always good and safe. FYI, the actual safari is 5 days + 2 days arrival and departure. Nevertheless within these 5 days we saw so many places and had a unique nature experience. "Luxury" as mentioned in the title is a bit too much said, especially when it comes to accommodation. On the other hand all the hotel names/ratings and the exact itinerary were mentioned clearly so no surprises. The luxurious part was actually that we were only on our own since it's low season :) Our guide Israel was flexible and fulfilled every possible wish we had. The Maasai village tour in the way to Serengeti costs an extra 50$ which is a fair price but they will also offer you some overpriced hand-made souvenirs to buy. The tour itself was very interesting and nice including a welcome song and dance basically from the whole village :) The Serengeti Safari lounge was quite spacious and had a big balcony to enjoy the endless view of the Serengeti. That was definitely the best accommodation of the trip. We woke up to a great show of a huge group of Gnus and Zebras directly in front of our balcony. The very ones who were singing for us all night :) Last but not least: if you're wondering about the prices even for a day tour, you should know that the park fees including conservation fees are quite high. So you're basically contributing to the well-being of these parks as well as the many wonderful people protecting them.

Cape Town to the Serengeti: Deserts & Wilderness Tour

Cape Town to the Serengeti: Deserts & Wilderness

Enjoyed the trip, saw lots of different animals, history and culture. Spent a lot of the time driving but the variety of game drives and optional activities created a good balance. The 2 groups I was a part of were great people and good company. The meals however were poor, felt our guide didn't try his best, majority of meals were cheap and our meal allowances were equivalent to $2-3 when given to eat on our long drives. He definitely could of done better with options especially after several comments and suggestions from our group. I didn't feel the food we got was anywhere the price I paid for the trip. Breakfasts consisted of cornflakes, weetabix, fruit and occasional yoghurt which was hidden and rationed along with museli. There were some days closer to the end where we got eggs, sausage and pancakes. Some individuals didn't even eat much overall because there wasn't much selection. Lunches consisted of processed meat sandwiches, apples and bananas for the most part. Dinners were rice, pasta, some vegetables and bread. The meat options were fine and more catered to I found. Unfortunately I felt that our guide wasn't organized with activities either, left everything to the last minute. He became more involved and active on the 2nd half of our journey with the group, for the first half he was a little reserved. Our driver was amazing and very accommodating and friendly. I would definetely do another G trip but would like to have a more outgoing and accommodating guide.

8 days: Best of Zambia, Botswana (Chobe) and Zimbabwe (Zambezi) Wildlife Safari Tour Tour

8 days: Best of Zambia, Botswana (Chobe) and Zimbabwe (Zambezi) Wildlife Safari Tour

The trip delivers what the title promises. The best of three countries in one package. Mark and his team took great care of their guests at all times and, together with their local partners, ensured a smooth vacation. In particular, the rhino safari in Zambia and the Chobe National Park in Botswana are a fantastic experience. Just like being able to see the Victoria Falls from both sides. The logistics of the numerous border crossings are fully supported and can therefore be completed without any worries (with appropriate preparation, depending on nationality). In my opinion, there is only room for improvement in the accommodation in Zimbabwe. The chosen lodge is in a solid condition, but the rooms (sanitary facilities, no air conditioning) show the passing decades. The food, on the other hand, is excellent and sumptuous! Despite the small drawback, an absolutely recommendable trip to experience the highlights of the three countries!

12-day Delta, Chobe & Victoria Falls (Accommodated) Tour

12-day Delta, Chobe & Victoria Falls (Accommodated)

Great tour, well organised, very knowledgeable and friendly guide. 2 suggestions: - please add safari pass amount to overall tour fee and make payable upfront. It’s safer not to carry lots of cash. Also guide does not need all this cash as most fees can be paid by credit card. - tipping is expected on most activities. It’s often difficult to figure out the right amount even with the help of the guide. Suggest to make the guide tip on behalf of the group taking the money from the safari pass or ask everybody to pay a small amount upfront (e.g. USD 10) to the guide.

10 Days Uganda's Gorillas Encounter, Wildlife & Kigali City Tour ( Private tour)

There are no words for how incredible this tour was. I had high expectations and a lot of excitement for this trip and I was nervous I was setting myself up for disappointment, but no such thing. Richard reached out several times ahead of the trip to help us prep and ensure we had what we needed. When we arrived, the tour accomodated our arrival time to Uganda. We had an incredible experience at every park. Veronica was an amazing guide sharing her love of Uganda and passion in what she does. Sam, our driver, he kept us safe and entertained especially on those long drives. We saw everything we were hoping to and more and were able to experience some of the culture. The accommodations were great and the food was excellent. I cannot recommend this tour and this tour company more. We were told that Mukisa means blessing, and that they were. Thank you for making a memory to never forget.

16 Days of Intensive Adventurous Safari through Magical Uganda and Rwanda ( Private tour) Tour

16 Days of Intensive Adventurous Safari through Magical Uganda and Rwanda ( Private tour)

At the beginning of December 2018 we decided to make an East-Africa-Trip and bought flight tickets to Entebbe via Addis Ababa and Zanzibar. We had the challenge to organize our trip to Ethiopia (7 days), Zanzibar (5 days) and to Uganda (16 days) in only 2 weeks before departure. Fortunately I discovered the website www.safaribookings.com which enabled us to get offers from three tour operators in Uganda whithin 24 hours. Thanks a lot for this really good service. Biggest thanks to Mukisa Safaris with Richard who made all our dreams come true. He fullfilled all our whishes and modificatiins in case of planning the 16-days-route and also to include a five-day-trek to the awesome Rwenzori Mountains. Every requests were answered promptly with good guidance. At the Entebbe-Airport we were really warm welcomed by our two guides Joane and John and all of the Mukisa-Members. Then we started directly our trip with our 4x4 Toyota Van across the country to Kidepo Valley NP, to Murchison Falls NP, to Rwenzori Mountains and finally via Queen Elizabeth NP to the unforgettable Bwindi Impenetrable NP. Thank Joan and John we had a lot of fun, learned a lot about nature, have seen all the great nature and animals and people, we felt very safe and had most of the time a good wlan-collection. :) The accomodations at lodges or tented lodges were clean, nice and comfortable, the meals also were fine and delicious. Uganda is characterized by a very big variety of beautiful landscapes, unbelievable nature and very friendly people. From the awesome Rwenzori Mountains, to the great Bwindi Rainforest, from animals at river Nile to remote Kidepo Valley. We loved it very much. So thank you so much Mukisa Safaris for this unforgettable yourney with deep impressions and long lasting memories. We wish you all the best, Joan, John and Richard.

Maasai Mara One-Day Trip Flying Safari Package : On this short 1 Day Kenya fly-in Safari, you fly directly from Nairobi to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, avoiding long drives on rough roads. This one-day Fly-in Masai Mara Safari departs from the Wilson Airport in Nairobi , the capital city of Kenya. We catch a scheduled flight at 0730 hours and fly to one of the eight major airstrips in Masai Mara National Reserve. Touching down at about 0815 hours , you are met by our driver guide and embark on an open-sided 4×4 game drive. Over 100 mammal species are found here‚ including the Big Five‚ and over 450 bird species. Game viewing here is second to none.

On safari in the Masai Mara, you can expect to see the Big 5, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and more. These include zebra, wildebeest, giraffes, cheetahs, hyenas, and jackals. Masai Mara resident bird species include ostriches and kori bustards, bateleur eagles, long-crested eagles, and vultures as well as smaller colorful, and diverse species like lilac-breasted rollers and violet-backed starlings.  We pause our game drive to enjoy a picnic lunch, continuing our exploration into the afternoon.  Between 1430 & 1500 hours we board our scheduled flight to the Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Arriving back in the big city at about 1600 hours , our short Maasai Mara One Day Trip flying Safari Package comes to an end.

Fly to Masai Mara from Nairobi and back in a day , experiencing Africa’s finest game viewing on 4×4 game drives. See the Big Five and a profusion of other wild animals roaming the untamed plains of Kenya.

Flying out of the capital of Kenya at about 0730 hours we reach Masai Mara Airstrip by about 0815 hours and set off on a game drive. The game drives are conducted in specially adapted 4×4 safari vehicles with open sides for excellent visibility. The highly skilled and qualified guides search out wildlife and share their knowledge out in the bush.

The Masai Mara is situated in the Great Rift Valley in southwestern Kenya. It covers over 1,500 km 2 . The southern part of the park forms part of the border with Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. The Masai Mara hosts a multitude of wild animals, including the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo), which we may encounter.

Zebra, giraffe, and over fourteen antelope species graze on Mara’s plains amongst warthog, hyenas, mongoose, monkeys, and elephants. Around the rivers, crocodiles lie in wait for prey while hippos grunt in the water and birds twitter in the trees.

During peak season ( between late June and October ) we will likely see the Great Migration – an unforgettable sight! Witness more than a million wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, and other wildlife on the move as they migrate to greener plains.

We pause our game drive to enjoy a picnic lunch, continuing our exploration into the late afternoon. Then later we make our way back to the Airstrip. Catching the flight between 1430 & 1500 hours we leave the incredible Mara ecosystem behind, flying back to Wilson Airport.

We land in Nairobi at about 1600 hours , bringing our remarkable fly-in wildlife journey to a close.

3 NIGHT Flying Safari

  • 2 ACTIVITIES

Enjoy 3 nights in one of our three Masai Mara locations Governors’ Camp , Little Governors’ Camp or Governors’ Il Moran Camp.

Nairobi to Masai Mara

When you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met and driven to Wilson Airport for your Governors’ Aviation flight to Masai Mara. The flight takes around 45 minutes and you fly over the scenically beautiful Great Rift Valley. On arrival in the Masai Mara, it’s a short game drive en route to the camp, before an al fresco lunch overlooking the Mara River (or marsh in the case of Little Governors’). Embark on a thrilling afternoon game drive at around 3:30pm and return in the dusk for drinks and chatter around the campfire, before your dinner. Fall asleep to the night-time chorus of the Masai Mara!

Masai Mara Game Reserve

Arise early each morning to make the most of your spectacular location. Each day will offer you the option of three game drives within the Mara National Reserve, immersing yourself in this rich wildlife destination.

For a particularly memorable and unforgettable experience, enjoy a surreal journey in a hot air balloon, with  Governors’ Balloon Safaris (please note that this is an extra cost), over the Masai Mara plains.

This adventure begins just before dawn; depart the camp at 5.15am to the Governors’ Balloon Safaris take off site, located just behind Little Governors’ Camp. The fabulous sunrise flight lasts approximately one hour depending on weather conditions. On landing, sit down to a delicious bush breakfast, freshly cooked on balloon burners in the middle of the Mara plains. Toast your return to Mother Earth together with your pilot over a glass of sparkling wine. Game drive back to your camp.

Masai Mara to Nairobi

On your final day, head out on an early morning game-drive at sunrise, followed by breakfast at the camp. If you are departing the Mara on a late afternoon flight, there will be an opportunity for one more game drive (late morning) and a delicious lunch back at the camp. After lunch you will be transferred to the airstrip to catch the PM flight with Governors’ Aviation. Fly-in safaris are a popular choice in Tanzania. A well-established travel industry ensures that logistics run very smoothly. This includes a large network of flights to and between safari destinations, so that most parks and reserves are now accessible by air as well as by road. In the past, flying into Tanzanian parks and reserves tended to be extremely expensive as this was only possible with chartered flights. More recently, the concept of scheduled safari flights has opened up fly-in Tanzanian safaris to more people. Aside from the obvious time-saving logistical advantages of a fly-in safari over a road safari, you’ll have the bonus of an aerial view of the park before landing.

5 Questions About Tanzania Fly-in Safaris

What are the pros and cons of a driver-guide vs fly-in safari in Tanzania?

“There are two ways to travel in the country. You can either book a safari where a driver-guide travels with you for the duration of your trip. He or she will drive you from park to park and will usually conduct the game drives as well. In this case the guide will be a constant throughout your holiday. You might have to cover big distances between parks, which can be tiresome, but you’ll get to see a lot of rural Tanzania, away from the tourist hot spots. Alternatively, you can opt for a Tanzanian fly-in safari where you travel from park to park by light aircraft. This will save you a lot of time as it cuts out many additional kilometers spent in the car, often on bumpy roads. When you fly between parks, you’ll be met at the airstrip by your local guide who will look after you for the duration of your stay at that particular destination. So, you’ll have a different guide in each place. These guides work on-site and tend to be more knowledgeable than the general guides based in the cities. On a fly-in safari, your game drives will be conducted in the lodge’s open-sided vehicles. These spacious, open cars are superior to the pop-up-roof 4x4s used for road safaris. It is also possible to combine both types of safari. You could, for instance, book a road safari to Serengeti National Park or Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) with a fly-in extension to a more-remote part of the country, e.g. to see chimpanzee in Mahale Mountains National Park.”

Is a fly-in safari much more expensive than a road safari?

“Flying from destination to destination is usually more expensive than a road safari in Tanzania. And while there are many advantages to a fly-in safari, many people booking a safari are budget-conscious. However, several local carriers now offer scheduled flights between parks. Furthermore, competition between different carriers flying to the popular parks has grown in recent years, bringing down the prices. Most importantly, there is usually no need for chartered flights. Since flying from park to park is essentially more time-productive, you can probably do a safari in fewer days compared to a similar road safari. Taking that into account, you might find a fly-in package doesn’t actually work out to be a lot more expensive than a road safari. Having said that, fly-in packages usually focus on the most exclusive and upmarket all-inclusive lodges, and these come at a premium price.”

What are the luggage restrictions on a fly-in trip in Tanzania?

“Safari flights are mostly on small light aircraft, and strict luggage restrictions apply, usually 15kg/33lb per person. As the planes are quite small, they also ask you to use a soft bag, such as a duffel bag, which is easier to store in a confined space. As you will be allowed more on your international flight, you can either pack with these small aircraft restrictions in mind, or you can leave some luggage with your tour operator or hotel at your city of entry. To accommodate the luggage restrictions, most lodges will do same-day laundry and many luxury lodges even include it in their package. Luggage restrictions on safari flights can be problematic for keen photographers with large lenses and lots of other equipment. If in doubt, always check with your tour operator in advance. In extreme cases you might need to book an extra seat.”

How reliable and safe are the small aircraft used for a fly-in safari in Tanzania?

“A fly-in safari and the light aircraft used in Tanzania are very safe. Tanzania has a well-established safari industry, and most of the local carriers have been operating for many years. Aside from having very strict safety regulations, they are generally very reliable too. Although several carriers offer scheduled flights to the popular parks and reserves, they do so in a flexible manner depending on bookings. The route will be scheduled, but stops at different airstrips are planned according to the bookings. That means that exact timings are usually announced the day before any given flight. The lodges are in direct contact with the airlines, and they inform their guests in ample time. They also organize transfers to and from the airstrips.”

Are some parks or reserves in Tanzania more suitable to this type of safari?

“Most parks and reserves can be visited on a road or fly-in safari. Both tour options are popular in the Northern circuit (Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Parks). As the Ngorongoro Conservation Area lies en route to the Serengeti, a great option is to drive one way and fly back. This saves time and avoids having to drive the same route twice. The Southern circuit (Mikumi, Nyerere and Ruaha National Parks) is a bit more remote. Many visitors opt to fly-in, although a road trip is the budget-friendly option, especially if only visiting one reserve. The Western circuit is almost exclusively visited on fly-in safaris. It includes Katavi, Mahale Mountains and Gombe National Parks. Katavi is a typical savannah reserve with lion, elephant and so on, while Mahale and Gombe both offer the more-specialized attraction of chimp trekking on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Katavi and Mahale are usually visited together as they are connected by a convenient flight schedule. Katavi can theoretically be visited by road, but this is hardly ever done as it is so remote and difficult to reach. There are no access roads at all to Mahale and Gombe. Visitors usually come by flight, followed by a private boat transfer. The inaccessibility of the Western circuit makes it very exclusive. There is just a handful of small, mostly rustic lodges in these parks. Fly-in packages are expensive, but visitors get a special wild experience away from the crowds.”

Russia claimed the downing of a drone flying towards Moscow

R ussian Air Defense Forces purportedly repelled a drone attack targeting Moscow this evening, November 19, reports Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

It is claimed that the drone was allegedly intercepted in the city district of Elektrostal in the Moscow region. According to Sobyanin, it was targeted at the capital of the Russian Federation.

"At the site of the wreckage, according to preliminary data, there are no destruction or casualties. Emergency services experts are working at the scene," stated the Mayor of Moscow.

The city of Elektrostal is located approximately 60 kilometers from the Russian capital.

Stikes on Russia Federation

In 2023, the frequency of drone attacks in various regions of Russia increased, accompanied by fires and explosions. Different regions, including Moscow, have come under attack. On the night of November 19, Sobyanin reported an alleged drone interception heading towards the Russian capital.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian intelligence has cautioned residents of the Russian capital against letting their guard down, stating that the number of drone attacks is likely to escalate.

Notably, on the evening of November 10, explosions were reported near the Constructor Design Bureau of Machine Building (KBM) corporation in the Moscow region, where Kinzhals and Iskanders are manufactured.

One of the most significant attacks occurred on the night of July 30, when unidentified drones targeted the business center of the Russian capital - "Moscow City." Drones hit the so-called "government tower," housing offices of the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Communications of the Russian Federation.

Brigadier General Sergei Baranov recently stated that Ukrainian forces are preparing for a large-scale winter attack on various regions of Russia using kamikaze drones.
