A wonderful and informative tour. Kitty and her daughter take you on a fun tour of past, present, and everything in between. Iris not really a formal lecture- type tour. It is more like having friends show you around their neighborhood. Highly recommende.

Our tour leader, Kitty, shared a wealth of knowledge and love for the Gullah Geechie culture and history in and around Beaufort. Her daughter Sherry (I believe), also joined us as driver, and she also shared her knowledge of the foods, herbs, and music of the community. We visited houses of worship, an historic school, and a plantation that told the story of the people - who they are and how they developed their distinct culture.

Our family loved this tour! Our guide was a master educator and connected immediately with our 11 and 13 year old daughters. We will definitely recommend this place (we stayed at Quality Inn on St. Helena Island) and this particular tour to friends and family.

Am connected to you thru Facebook, and have seen ‘The Will to Survive’ several times. It doesn’t appear that my situation in life is going to give me the chance to visit, which I would love to do. In lieu of a visit, I would like to obtain a hand carved walking stick. Do you ever sell them? It won’t get me from here to the East Coast, but perhaps it would help me to see more of California than I’m seeing right now. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Peace Ms. Torres!

We have sold them in the past, but are not selling any currently. If we begin to again, we will let you know.

Gullah Geechee Tours

I would recommend this tour to anyone who has a desire to experience an in-depth and nuanced education on Charleston and southern life including its global influences. This tour gets 5 stars! For those visiting the area, you can find the tour at the Charleston visiting center on Market Street. You won't regret it!

We did this tour because of fantastic reviews, the enthusiastic recommendation of our host, and our interest in African American history and culture. It was even better than we expected. We especially appreciated his introduction to the Gullah language and people: fascinating, and not easy to find. Easy to do--mostly sitting in a comfortable van.

This is a tour about the Gullah's role in the history of Charleston. You will see parts of Charleston that are not on the conventional tours, which gives you a better appreciation of the city - past and present - and all its inhabitants.

The tour focuses on the lives of African Americans of Charleston: slaves, craftsmen, wealthy landowners, and the Gullah culture and language. You'll learn more stories about African Americans than you'll hear anywhere else and see some of their homes, churches, crafts. The guide's animated way of telling the stories kept us enthralled.

The tour guides has a wealth of information about Charleston and its history. He has a sense of humor and although he must have told the stories a million times they still seemed to be fresh. Great tour if you want to sit in the air-conditioning (as opposed to walking or carriage tours) and still see a lot of interesting homes and buildings.

I loved this tour almost as much as I loved the openness and kindness and perspective of the guide. We saw a lot of the sites from Sue Monk Kidd's book, The Invention of Wings, and a nationally celebrated blacksmith artist, Philip Simmons.

Khabarovsk, Russia

You are here, about khabarovsk.

Khabarovsk is one of the most significant and beautiful cities of Russia's Far East. It stands on the right bank of the Amur River along the scenic Trans-Siberian railway and almost touches the Chinese border.

The city of Khabarovsk played a crucial role in East - Russian history and is famous for its historic sights, monuments of architecture of different eras, religious buildings, lovely parks, gardens, and artificial lakes which surprise its visitors with impressive fountain shows.

Khabarovsk History

Founded in 1858, the city is now loved by Chinese travelers and those who are going on iconic train journeys along the world's longest railway from Siberia. After days of relentless taiga, people reach this vibrant city with multiple attractions, plenty of historical sights from the tsarist-era, and a number of places to try traditional Russian cuisine. Khabarovsk is indeed a charming city that deserved to be on your travel itinerary. Especially, if you are the legendary Trans-Siberian is on your travel radar.

We suggest beginning your Khabarovsk tour from the famous monument erected in honor of Nikolay Muravyov - Amursky, one of the best-known explorer of East Siberia, a general, and the founder of the city.

Continue your Khabarovsk trip with a riverside walk along the picturesque Nevelsky Embankment and pass through the third tallest church (35 feet) in all Russia - Spaso-Transfiguration Cathedral standing on top of a hill. Take in the spectacular location and view of this Cathedral and its classic golden domes, dominating the city skyline and being visible from a large distance.

Your Trans-Siberian itinerary would become even better if you include a visit to the famous Khabarovsk Bridge as well. The railway bridge goes over the Amur River and is considered to be the longest bridge on the Trans-Siberian route.

Best Things to Do in Khabarovsk

  • Stop by the Nikolay Muravyov - Amursky monument
  • Visit the gorgeous Spaso-Transfiguration Cathedral
  • Take a picture by the renown Khabarovsk Bridge over the Amur River
