ULTIMATE JET SKI SAFARI IN CORNWALL

Ultimate jet ski safari.

Ride solo or share with a friend on the Ultimate Jet Ski Safari to explore the Cornish coastline. Full training will be given because once this is complete the Jet Ski Safari is self-drive. There will be an instructor present on their own ski as your guide.

Riding 15-20 miles along the North Cornish coast and ride under dramatic cliffs, you will view secluded beaches and remote coves. You will pass many local beaches such as Watergate Bay, Mawgan Porth, Fistral, Crantock, Holywell Bay, Perranporth & Bedruthan Steps.

If you’re lucky you may get the chance to meet some of the locals including Dolphins, Sunfish & Seals! Each trip is tailored to your individual or group requirements so we create a memorable experience you will not forget.

Wetsuits and Buoyancy Aids are provided by us in the cost of your session. Please bring with you swimwear and a towel.

An Afternoon at Carlyon Beach (+ Cornwall Waverunner Jet Ski Safari!)

Based on the south coast of cornwall, just outside of st. austell, carlyon bay is a beautiful stretch of sandy beach with a resort-like vibe.

I’d never been before, but was invited down to experience the atmosphere of this beach, with lunch, drinks and a jet ski safari experience from Cornwall Waverunners, who are based on the shoreline.

It was a beautiful September morning, and Niki and I were super excited for a day out to somewhere we’d never been to chill out and kick off the weekend. There’s a large car park here, with a short slope down to the beach where you’ll find a fun foodie village built into the sand!

We headed straight down to see a mixture of food stands, and an awesome canvassed bar area run by Shoreside beach bar, with plenty of benches and deck chairs dotted around if you don’t fancy a picnic in the sand. Throughout the summer months you’ll find anything from light bites, seafood curries, and Asian infused slow cooked meats to pizzas, pasties and cakes.

The pizza from Jaspers Kitchen was calling to us, so we ordered a couple and sat down with my favourite combo – pizza with a view ☺️🍕- honestly you can’t beat it!

After filling our bellies, we laid out our towels on the sand and went for an explore along the beach. To her delight, Niki found lots of sea glass (she makes Cornish sea glass jewellery !) and we were also surprised to find lots of pieces of quartz along the beach too. Apparently this is due to old tin mines nearby as quartz is technically a waste mineral from those mining activities, but it makes for good sifting for treasure!

Carlyon Beach isn’t just about food, drink, and beautiful views – there are also a range of activities you can do from the beach as well – even including fitness boot camps and beach yoga during summer.

Being on the south coast and sheltered by surrounding cliffs, this 3 mile long beach benefits from (usually) calm waters, making it perfect for swimming, watersports (like paddleboarding and kayaking, which you can hire right from the beach), and jet skiing!

Cornwall Waverunner Safaris have a base here right on the beach, and we were invited to experience one of their Mini Jet Ski Safari experiences that afternoon. We were both so excited – if not a little nervous – as neither Niki or I had ever driven a jet ski before. We got changed into wetsuits at the hut at the top of the beach, and were then given a safety briefing and some training on the jet skis by our instructor, Jake.

I was admittedly rubbish at driving the jet ski (my hand-eye co-ordination is possibly some of the worst you’ve ever seen… it took me 4 attempts at my driving test until I passed, let’s just put it that way), but Niki took to it instantly! I was so glad we were on a double jet ski together, as it meant I could sit on the back and relax while she drove. Honestly she was so good at it, and loved zooming along as the driver, following Jake on his jet ski ahead of us.

We travelled south down the coastline past Charlestown harbour and a range of secret coves that are only accessible from the water, before stopping out to sea because Jake had spotted a porpoise! It’s apparently quite common to see sealife on these experiences, and he told us just that morning he’d seen a group of dolphins swimming along. They can sometimes come up close to the jet skis, but porpoises tend to be more nervous, so we only saw its fin a couple of times.

Carrying on down the coast, we went all the way down to Mevagissey and back again, zooming and zig-zagging across the waves and even catching some air on some waves out to sea! It was definitely an adrenaline experience and we were both squealing as we sped along.

It was so much fun and I’d definitely recommend giving this a go if you’re looking for something different and exciting to try on your next beach trip!

Back on the beach, we went for a quick swim and found we’d worked up some thirst so headed over to Shoreside beach bar for a tipple to relax. They serve all your favourite drinks here under a stylish stretched canvas (perfect for seeking shelter on breezier days), including Tarquins gin, some cocktails, Pimms and much more. I went for a passionfruit martini, while Niki opted for a G&T.

We sat on the beach with our drinks and bathed in the sun until we were dry. The best finish to a wonderful day at the beach! It definitely felt like we were on holiday, and we didn’t want to leave!

The best places to go jet skiing in Cornwall

Those who’ve ever holidayed in Cornwall will know it’s a surfer’s paradise. Its beautiful coastline and equally beautiful beaches make it the UK’s surfing and watersport hotspot.

But what many people don’t realise is that Cornwall is also a fantastic spot for jet skiing. The popularity of jet skiing in Cornwall is growing, so much so that the region now has several jet ski-dedicated beaches and tours with specialist instructors and lifeguards.

Although you don’t need a licence to use a jet ski, we must caveat that you may need to meet certain criteria to launch your vehicle at some beaches. As a responsible jet ski owner, you must always double-check the rules and regulations of wherever you plan to go first.

But, enough of the serious stuff—jet skiing is all about fun. In no particular order, here are the best places to go jet skiing in Cornwall .

Lusty Glaze Beach , Newquay

Where to find: Lusty Glaze Road, Newquay, TR7 3AE

Lusty Glaze Beach is a stunning, privately-owned cove. Tucked away on the north Cornish coast on the outskirts of Newquay, the beach is renowned for hosting luxurious weddings and 5* events.

Crowned Britain’s Best Beach by The Sunday Times and incidentally Cornwall’s most ‘Instagrammable’ wedding venue (yes, that’s a thing), Lusty Glaze is also home to Cornwall Waverunner Safaris , thanks to whom jet skiing in Cornwall has never been easier.

The Waverunner Safaris offer various jet ski tours along the Cornish coast, among other things, with several options available to jet skiers.

Taster sessions start for as little as £39 per person, while the 15-20 mile-long ‘ultimate jet ski safari’ experience can last up to an hour and a half and cost up to £130.

Jet skiing around Newquay with the Cornwall Waverunner Safaris is a great way of seeing the region’s forever-changing coastline. You’ll take in its dramatic cliffs, diverse marine life, and tranquil beaches—including Watergate Bay, Mawgan Porth and Perranporth.

Carlyon Bay , St Austell

Where to find: Carlyon Bay, PL25 3RG

The Waverunner Safaris also run jet ski tours from Carlyon Bay in St Austell, on Cornwall’s south coast.

Carlyon Bay consists of three beaches (Crinnis, Shorthorn and Polgaver). Historically, it was the site of the old ‘Cornwall Coliseum’ , a large exhibition centre home to various watersports from the 1950s until the early 2000s.

Today, Carlyon Bay remains one of Cornwall’s most popular watersport hotspots. Much like at Lusty Glaze, Waverunner Safaris tours are given under the guidance of qualified jet ski instructors, but this time cover a 12-mile blast around the gorgeous coast that surrounds Carlyon Bay.

Jet skiers will pass many beaches setting off from here, including Charlestown, Polkerris, and Pentewan Sands (another jet skier’s haunt). You’ll also get close to the region’s wildlife, including seals, jellyfish, and—if you’re lucky—dolphins.

Falmouth Haven

Where to find: 44 Arwenack Street, Falmouth, TR11 3JQ

Falmouth Haven is one of the finest leisure boating spots not just in Cornwall but in all of southern England.

Its waters are constantly buzzing with boats of all shapes and sizes, from large yachts to jet skis and pretty much everything in between.

Jet skis can be launched from the Falmouth Haven slipway—but be aware you must hold an annual permit in order to do this. Annual permits are £25 (at the time of writing) and are issued based on the owner having the following:

• RYA personal watercraft proficiency certificate
• Valid jet ski insurance
• ID to confirm 18+
• An identifying mark on the jet ski
• A working kill cord on the jet ski

The slipway is large, modern and well-maintained, with a convenient pontoon stationed alongside. It begins at the start of Falmouth town’s bustling main street, too, so you’ll never be short of supplies.

Falmouth Haven is undeniably one of the best locations for jet skiing in Cornwall, but you must play by the slipway rules and keep within the designated jet ski zones in Falmouth Bay itself or a special area within the Carrick Roads .

Poldhu Cove , Lizard Peninsula

Where to find: Poldhu Cove Beach, Mullion, Helston, TR12 7HZ

Poldhu Cove (also known as Black Pool Cove) is a small, sandy, west-facing beach on Cornwall’s beautiful Lizard Peninsula —the most south-westerly point of the British mainland.

The Lizard, which derives its name from ‘Lis-ardh’, meaning ‘fortress’ in old Cornish, boasts its own unique landscape, stunning views, and yes, you guessed it—another one of Cornwall’s best jet skiing spots, too.

Poldhu Cove is maintained by the National Trust and holds Outstanding Natural Beauty status, so it’s about as preened as you’d expect.

Jet skis are permitted in the coastal waters off Poldhu Cove, so it’s well worth checking out if you’re holidaying here.

Jet skis aside, Poldu Cove is also very popular with surfers (hardly surprising, right?) In fact, former pro surfer Dan Joel runs a small surf school from the beach, with lessons starting at around £25—if that’s more your thing.

Jet Skiing is a fun and exhilarating way to explore Cornwall’s stunning coastline aboard powerful Yamaha jet skis.

Cornwall Waverunner Safaris is based at Lusty Glaze beach and offers a wide range of jet ski tours and sessions. It’s not all about speed though and guided trips explore the coastline by jet ski taking you to inaccessible coves and hidden wildlife.

In most cases you can be self-driving after tuition and can choose from a selection of different rides from a short trip around Newquay bay to the extended Jet Ski Safari which may give you the opportunity of wildlife spotting. Dolphins love the jet skis and if the dolphins are in the bay they are often spotted playing right next to them!

Our 6 watersports activities are run across multiple locations, simply choose your location when placing an online booking. Please note a session on the Lizard is 3 hrs and a session in Hayle Harbour is 2hrs.

Coasteering

Explore along the coastline where the sea meets the cliff. Scramble around the headland, go into a cave, swim to islands and jump off cliffs.

Glide through our world renowned emerald seas to explore hidden bays and caves. Get close to and learn about the local wildlife and our coastlines natural history.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Master the skill of standing on a board with a paddle and glide over the water. Explore the rugged coast and enormous ocean caves.

Giant Stand Up Paddle Boarding
