John Mulaney Announces New Headlining Comedy Tour ‘John Mulaney In Concert’

Award winning comedian   John Mulaney   announced today he will be going back on tour solo   with a brand new show.   The stand-up comedy tour   kicks off kicks off on November 2 at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston, NY making stops across the U.S. in Columbus, OH; New Orleans, LA; Tampa, FL and more before wrapping up in Phoenix, AZ at Arizona Financial Theatre on New Years Eve.  

TICKETS: Tickets will be available starting with an artist presale beginning on Wednesday, September 27. Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general onsale beginning on Friday, September 29 at 10AM local time at ticketmaster.com.      

MORE ABOUT THE SHOW: This event will be a phone-free experience. Use of phones, smart watches and accessories, will not be permitted in the performance space. Upon arrival at the venue, all phones, smart watches and accessories will be secured in individual Yondr pouches that will be opened at the end of the event. Guests maintain possession of their devices at all times, and can access them throughout the event only in designated Phone Use Areas within the venue. Well, that escalated quickly.

What started as a five-show, one-weekend tour with Pete Davidson and Jon Stewart in early September, has since become a full-fledged tour for John Mulaney .

The five-time “Saturday Night Live” host just announced an additional 18 shows to his 2023 calendar he’s calling ‘John Mulaney: In Concert.’

In total, Mulaney now has 31 gigs all over North America this year including a trio with Jon Stewart and 11 with Pete Davidson .

And for those keeping score at home, he now has four shows in New York State.

First up, he’s slated to co-headline with Jon Stewart at Westbury’s NYCB Theatre on Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14 .

After that, he’ll hit Kingston’s Ulster Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Nov. 2 and Troy’s Troy Music Hall on Sunday, Nov. 4.

John Mulaney announces 18-stop comedy tour for 2023: Get tickets today

Well, that escalated quickly.

What started as a five-show, one-weekend tour with Pete Davidson and Jon Stewart in early September, has since become a full-fledged tour for John Mulaney .

The five-time “Saturday Night Live” host just announced an additional 18 shows to his 2023 calendar he’s calling ‘John Mulaney: In Concert.’

In total, Mulaney now has 31 gigs all over North America this year including a trio with Jon Stewart and 11 with Pete Davidson .

And for those keeping score at home, he now has four shows in New York State.

First up, he’s slated to co-headline with Jon Stewart at Westbury’s NYCB Theatre on Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14 .

After that, he’ll hit Kingston’s Ulster Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Nov. 2 and Troy’s Troy Music Hall on Sunday, Nov. 4.

Award-winning comedian  John Mulaney  announced today he will be going back on tour solo with a brand new show. 

The stand-up comedy tour kicks off kicks off on November 2 at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston, NY making stops across the U.S. in Columbus, OH; New Orleans, LA; Tampa, FL and more before wrapping up in Phoenix, AZ at Arizona Financial Theatre on New Years Eve.

MONTAUK HISTORIAL SOCIETY:

The Montauk Historical Society is the nonprofit organization that owns the Montauk Point Lighthouse. It costs over $1.5 million a year to run the lighthouse and museum. Special events, like its annual benefit concert, are an essential way to fund programming and maintenance. An extensive restoration of the tower and the exterior of the museum was completed last summer after over five years of work and planning, and at a cost of $1.8 million. It was funded by grants, generous donations, and admission fees. A $38 million revetment, led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and New York State’s Department of Environmental Control, was completed last year, and will safeguard the lighthouse for future generations. The mission of the Montauk Historical Society is to collect, restore, preserve, and display historically significant buildings, objects, and writings, and to preserve the history and cultures of Montauk and the East End for this and future generations.

John Mulaney Gets Very Real in First Post-Rehab Special

In his new Netflix special “Baby J,” comedian John Mulaney upends his “nice guy” persona and tells an instantly iconic joke about the futility of “cancel culture.”

John Mulaney has never been an especially self-deprecating comedian. For most of his career, he styled himself as the type of broadly appealing throwback showman who was smarter, funnier, and better-looking than everyone else in the room and wanted you to know it. That was before everything fell apart.

Baby J , which arrives on Netflix today, is Mulaney’s first stand-up special since revealing to the world that a relapse on cocaine (and various other pharmaceutical drugs) fueled a tumultuous 2020 that culminated in an intervention from his famous friends and an extended stint in rehab .

The 80-minute special contains some of his darkest and most compelling material to date. The laughs may come ever-so-slightly fewer and farther between than in his previous work, but Mulaney’s willingness to peel back the curtain on his inner turmoil in a way he’s never done before adds a new depth that, by the end, only makes the special funnier. It’s no wonder he’s not sure how he will be able to follow it .

This darker tone for Mulaney starts even before he broaches the elephant in the room. Before we see him on stage at Boston’s Symphony Hall, wearing an impeccably tailored red suit, we hear him tell the audience that he’s “done a lot of work” on himself over the past couple of years. “And I’ve realized that I’ll be fine as long as I get constant attention,” he jokes.

That line leads to an opening bit about how he spent his early childhood secretly wishing that one of his “unimportant grandparents” would die so that he could get special treatment at school. He soon explains that he started on such a “dark note” because he didn’t want things to feel “way too upbeat,” lightly mocking the overly energetic showbiz style that infused prior specials like Kid Gorgeous at Radio City.

The subtitle for Baby J is “a wide-ranging conversation”—revealed in Mulaney’s hilarious closer to be a reference to a GQ interview he has no memory of giving just days before his intervention. And the comedian does spend most of the special going deep on the very real struggles he was still trying to hide from view at that time.

Mulaney has spoken publicly about the December 2020 intervention before, but never with this much excruciating detail. And he manages to maintain his self-assured persona while joking that given his fresh haircut and cocaine habit, he was easily the best-looking person in the room of comedians who had been sitting on their couches for nine months during the COVID lockdown.

He goes on by expressing how disturbing it was to be in a room full of the funniest people on the planet, none of whom were doing bits. “Fred Armisen was serious,” Mulaney says. “Do you know how off-putting that is?”

Like Armisen, Mulaney is not known for his sincerity, but he does take a moment to acknowledge that his friends’ actions “totally saved” his life. Seconds later, however, he shuts down the applause by joking that he’s still “pissed off” at them for putting him eternally in their debt.

Over the next hour or so, Mulaney delivers some brilliantly constructed set pieces about his time in rehab, including the several missed calls he received from Pete Davidson , who was saved in his phone as “Al Pacino,” and an even more unnerving breakdown of the lengths he went to to get cash for drugs after asking his business manager to cut him off. This segment in particular, about trying to buy and then pawn an enormously expensive watch, is so vivid that it feels like watching the opening scene of a heist film.

“Don’t believe the persona,” he says, almost as an aside at one point, in response to the intervention leader who “heard he was nice.” In many ways, it feels like the project of Baby J is exposing the gulf between the Mulaney people thought they knew before his rehab stint and the man who was hiding below the surface the whole time and only emerged in brief flashes, like that time he ranted incoherently in a trench coat and sunglasses on Seth Meyers’ couch.

Mulaney may look as smooth and put-together as ever in this new special, but through the stories and details he shares about his lowest moments, he exposes a deeper truth about himself that fans have never seen with this much clarity.

“I used to care what everyone thought about me so much. It was all I cared about,” Mulaney admits near the end of the special. “And I don’t anymore.”

This thought stems from the realization that no one could do something worse to him than what he tried to do to himself through his addiction. And it leads to perhaps the best joke ever about the futility of “cancel culture” in a medium where comedians love to complain about how powerful it can be.

“What, are you gonna cancel John Mulaney?” he asks. “I’ll kill him. I almost did.”

The Newsroom actress went on to say, "At first it was cool, and then I kept going up to him at the wedding like 'So you having fun?' I was just so obsessed with hanging out with and talking with him." Munn added that she ended up sending him an email, but said "he never emailed back."

"I might've got the wrong email — probably," she joked. "That's what I tell myself."

December 2020: John Mulaney checks into rehab and Olivia Munn offers her support

Shortly before Christmas in December 2020, PEOPLE confirmed that Mulaney had checked into rehab when he relapsed after a long battle with addiction. He had previously opened up about his struggles with sobriety during an interview with Esquire in 2019, saying he started drinking at age 13 "for attention."

After the news of his relapse broke, Munn offered a message of support to Mulaney on Twitter . "Sending SO MUCH love and support to John Mulaney. You got this," she wrote.

May 10, 2021: John Mulaney files for divorce from ex-wife Anna Marie Tendler

Following his 60-day stay in rehab, the comedian's rep confirmed to PEOPLE that he and his wife of six years were splitting up.

"John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work," a spokesman for Mulaney told Page Six , which first reported the news of the couple's split.

In her own statement to PEOPLE via her rep, Tendler said, "I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage. I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery."

Just a few days after his divorce was announced, a source close to Mulaney and Munn confirmed they were an item.

"This is very new, they're taking it slowly," another insider close to Mulaney told PEOPLE . "They met at church in Los Angeles."

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers , Mulaney surprised fans with the news that Munn was pregnant with their first baby together .

"I packed a lot into this … is it September now?" Mulaney said, talking about his busy year. "I went to rehab in September, I got out in October, I moved out of my home from my ex-wife … Then in the spring I went to Los Angeles and met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia."

He continued, "I got into this relationship that's been really beautiful with someone incredible. And we're having a baby together. I was nervous when I was about to say the news!"

Mulaney also discussed the positive impact of his relationship with Munn, saying , "Olivia and this baby have helped save me from myself in this early journey out of recovery."

During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE , Munn discussed how "excited" she was to welcome her first child with Mulaney.

"My mom crochets and knits a lot of stuff," she said of her family's preparations. "She makes little rattles or stuffed animal toys already. This is still a new experience for me so to see my mom excited makes it feel a lot more real! I'm really excited."

The actress also said she was leaning on support from friends to get through her pregnancy. "I've been getting a lot of rest and eating the right foods," she shared. "And my friends have been giving me some great advice. That's been keeping me sane!"

"They think they know our relationship so well," Munn went on. "When in reality, they don't. There's no way anyone could know what any of his relationships were or what our relationship is."

A source close to the pair confirmed the happy news to PEOPLE on Dec. 18. A few days later, the couple introduced their new arrival to the world on Dec. 24. Both Munn and Mulaney shared similar photos of a sleeping Malcolm on Instagram.

"My Golden Ox baby. Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney. Happy Holidays," Munn captioned her photo.

For his post, Mulaney wrote, "Meet Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney. He has his whole life ahead of him. He hasn't even tried seltzer yet. I'm very in love with him and his whole deal. Happy Holidays."

February 2022: John Mulaney hosts Saturday Night Live and gushes about Olivia Munn and their son

Mulaney officially earned a spot in SNL 's five-timers club when he hosted an episode in February 2022. During his opening monologue , the comedian talked about his past drug use and his time in rehab, as well as the intervention that ended up saving him.

After noting how different his life was since the last time he hosted, Mulaney brought up his new family. "Life is a lot better and happier now," he said. "I have a 12-week-old son. He is a pretty cool guy for someone who can't vote. His legs are like little calzones, and I want to eat him."

The comedian went on to talk about his first time bonding with his son, saying, "We were in the delivery room. My girlfriend had just given birth to him and he's crying a little, so they bring him over to this warmer on the other side of the delivery room, and they put them on the warmer under this big bright light and light is just shining in his eyes. He just looks up at the light and … he was annoyed. But he didn't say anything. I was like, 'That's my son.' A polite man in an uncomfortable situation, but he's not going to make a fuss."

Ahead of Mulaney's comedy show at Madison Square Garden, the comedian was photographed holding hands with Munn as they made their way to the venue in N.Y.C.

A day earlier, Mulaney opened up about how the couple's son was enjoying being on tour with him and Munn during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers .

The couple walked their first red carpet together at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles. Munn looked ultra-chic in a white strapless ensemble by MATICEVSKI, while Mulaney donned a classic black tuxedo.

March 13, 2024: Olivia Munn shares her breast cancer diagnosis

A couple of months later, Munn revealed in an Instagram post that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. She shared photos of herself in the hospital while undergoing treatment, which involved four surgeries including a double mastectomy.

In her caption, she thanked Mulaney for being by her side through it all.

"I'm so thankful to my friends and family for loving me through this. I'm so thankful to John for the nights he spent researching what every operation and medication meant and what side effects and recovery I could expect,” she wrote in the post. “For being there before I went into each surgery and being there when I woke up, always placing framed photos of our little boy Malcolm so it would be the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes.”

Just one month after taking her cancer diagnosis public, Munn told PEOPLE that experiencing cancer without Mulaney would have felt like " climbing an iceberg ."

“I don’t think he had a moment to himself, between being an incredibly hands-on father and going to and from the hospital — taking Malcolm to the park, putting him to nap, driving to Cedars-Sinai, hanging out with me, going home, putting Malcolm to bed, coming back to me," she said. "And he did it all happily.”
