When Judas Priest Opened for REO Speedwagon in Their First U.S. Concert

The rock bills of the '70s often had more to do with label considerations and promotional logistics than any thought of putting together artists that might have made a good musical fit. It produced some pretty bumpy tours for opening acts forced to play to hostile or indifferent crowds, but in retrospect, it led to some unforgettable bills — like the night Judas Priest played their first U.S. gig as an opener for REO Speedwagon .

Priest, touring at the time behind their third album, Sin After Sin , had yet to break into the American market — and it would take them some time, with their hard-fought U.S. breakthrough not arriving until 1980's British Steel . That journey started in earnest on June 17, 1977 in Amarillo, Texas. They might not have picked up many new fans in the crowd, but it's a night REO Speedwagon frontman Kevin Cronin still remembers — and one he reminisced about with Priest singer Rob Halford .

"I did a TV show with Rob Halford a couple of weeks ago. It was a Comedy Central show," Cronin told UCR's Matt Wardlaw . "It was kind of a cool thing where different comedians kind of go up and do a little bit on a band and a certain song that affected them and affected their comedy and then the actual artist comes out and you do a little duet with them. It was a lot of fun."

After doing their bits, Cronin and Halford met up backstage, where they bonded over that long-ago show. "I probably haven’t seen the guys since then, so it’s 40 years later. I was walking off stage and he was coming on next," Cronin said. "I’m like, 'Dude, you guys ... we did some dates together a long time ago, didn’t we?' And that’s when he told me, he goes, 'Yep! We did our first American shows opening for you guys.'"

As Cronin recalls it, Judas Priest were still being marketed as a "straight-ahead rock band" at the time, and wouldn't debut their signature look for a little while yet. Uncertain image notwithstanding, Cronin heard an energy that inspired him in Priest's set.

"The next time I saw them, they kind of came out with the leathers and this whole kind of new vibe that they had. It was different than the Judas Priest that I remembered when they were playing with us. But they were strong and they were a powerful band," said Cronin. "I always liked when the band that went on before us was good. Because that just lit a fire under us. Judas Priest definitely lit a fire under us."

Since parting ways as tourmates, the two groups have obviously continued to follow very different paths — but, as Cronin laughingly noted, they can both be proud of their achievements. "I think they’ve done pretty well since then," he quipped. "I think their career kind of panned out a little bit, didn’t it?"

Judas Priest Opens Up US Tour With Spectacular Show In Wallingford, Connecticut

judas priest first us tour

The year 1974 was when Judas Priest’s debut record, Rocka Rolla was released. Now, 50 years later, the legendary British metal band was in Wallingford, Connecticut on Thursday, April 18 for the first show of their United States leg of a tour in support of their new record, Invincible Shield . Last fall the Toyota Oakdale Theatre hosted the first night of Judas Priest’s 50 Heavy Metal Years Tour with Queensrÿche . This time, the Swedish heavy metal band, Sabaton was the opener for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band.

Judas Priest is coming off a few-month trek of shows in Europe. By the time the band hit the United States, the well-oiled Judas Priest machine was ready to roll. The entire night was a beautiful ceremony of heavy metal that brought fans of all ages and all eras of the band together.

judas priest first us tour

Before Judas Priest took the stage, the previously mentioned Sabaton graced the stage at 7:30. The eager Priest fans cheered for the Swedish natives who had a great following at this show. For the opener, it might take a few songs for the band to win over fans. But, the band – who dressed in camo pants and black tops – won fans over from the first note with their history-inspired lyrics and Amon Amarth’s style of metal.

The band was backed by an army tank which served as a drum riser for Hannes Van Dahl. This hasn’t been seen for some kiss fans since Eric Carr of KISS had his drums on top of a tank during the band’s “ Creatures of the Night ” tour in the 80s. At one point in the show, the band dawned World War II-style gas masks while they played. Lead singer Joakim Brodén sang through the mask while carrying a large canon-like prop around the stage. Fans around the theatre all gasped in amazement while taking videos on their phones.

Joining Brodén and Van Dahl in Sabaton is Pär Sundström on bass, with Chris Rörland and Thobbe Englund. Englund is rejoining the band after an eight-year absence from the group. It was announced on Feb. 9 that Englund was rejoining and replacing guitarist Tommy Johansson.

England has always produced some of the best heavy metal bands in the world. Arguably, Black Sabbath is at the top of that list. Sabbath and Priest have had a wonderful friendship over the years. Judas Priest lead singer, Rob Halford filled for Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne on a handful of occasions. It was only fitting for Priest to blast Black Sabbath’s “ War Pigs ,” off of 1970’s Paranoid through the PA system. In unison, louder than any guitar that night, the crowd belted out lyrics to Sabbath’s famous tune before Judas Priest took to the stage.

judas priest first us tour

With a curtain of the tracklist of the brand-new record, at the forefront of the stage, the lights began to flicker. When the curtain dropped and the band was all cluttered together on a staircase leading to Scott Travis’s drum kit. The band plunged into “ Panic Attack ” off of the brand-new record. The cheering and screaming from the crowd was deafening as the band spread out on the stage to meet the eager Wallingford crowd. The band played 18 songs that crisscrossed their entire career and spanned their entire discography.

The band sounded as tight as ever. Guitarist Richie Faulkner was prancing around the left side of the stage the entire night. He was a man possessed by his blue Flying V and Explorer guitars. Throughout the night, he was running around the stage, posing at the edge as well as – in KISS-like fashion – throwing guitar picks into the crowd while throwing up the rock and roll horns.

judas priest first us tour

Halford sounded better than ever. His signature screaming and wailing was music in itself to the metal maniacs that had sold out the theatre. Bassist Ian Hill, who is only one of two members in the band from the “classic lineup” stood comfortably towards the band behind guitarist Andy Sneap. Hill would barely move from his spot the entire night yet was the anchor in the rhythm section. Sneap was brought on board to produce the band’s latest two records, 2018’s Firepower and the new Invincible Shield . He has been in the band as a touring guitarist and producer ever since 2018.

Priest’s iconic cross logo was hung above the stage. With each song, it would light up different colors, shoot lights out and even at one point in the show it moved down towards the front of the stage. People around the theatre all pointed and again, took out their phones to capture the cool moment.

judas priest first us tour

The band blasted through their set, which featured hits like “ Breaking the Law ,” “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’, ” and “ Painkiller. ” At one point during the encore, Halford rod out on a motorcycle and wore a biker cap to signify the second to last song, “ Hell Bent for Leather .”

By the time the last song of the night was played, “ Living After Midnight ,” off of the band’s 1980 album, British Steel and Queen’s “ We Are the Champions ” was played off the PA system, fans were already talking about when they would be seeing the band next. Judas Priest was brought up with bands like KISS and Aerosmith but at the rate they are going, Priest will still be going for more years to come.

Judas Priest (formed in 1969) are a heavy metal band hailing from Birmingham, England, who were part of the original New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

It took several years of line up changes and poorly received album releases before Judas Priest developed their signature sound, with the 1977 album "Sin After Sin" establishing the band internationally through their dual lead guitar attack, punishing pace and driving riffs which went on to define the evolving sound of metal.

The classic line up consists of vocalist Rob Halford, guitarists K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton and bassist Ian Hill. The 1980 album "British Steel" featured the hits "Breaking the Law" and "Living After Midnight" which garnered Judas Priest mainstream success. Their penchant for wearing leather and chains popularised this fashion statement in metal, influencing acts for years to come.

"Screaming for Vengeance (1982)" peaked at number 17 in the American charts, selling over a million copies, with the band being at the peek of their popularity, achieving great success with the renowned hit "You've Got Another Thing Comin'." The musical style is full of aggressive, fast paced guitar riffs and they also popularised the use of double bass drums, making for rapid rhythms. Their music helped influence the development of thrash metal, which was the next big sub-genre of metal to grow, with bands like Metallica and Megadeath pushing the speed and ferocity of their music to new extreme levels.

Judas Priest's career was hit by controversy, following an incident involving two American teenagers who, having been listening to Judas Priest and drinking beers, decided to make a suicide pact. Judas Priest were deemed responsible for their self-inflicted gunshot wounds due to supposed subliminal messaging that was featured in their song "Better By You, Better Than Me." This incident resulted in a civil action suit that lasted for a month before eventually being dismissed by the judge. The trial became the subject of a 1991 documentary titled "Dream Deceivers: The Story Behind James Vance vs Judas Priest."

After an eleven year break, Judas Priest reunited in 2003 and have continued touring and releasing albums since. They were inducted into the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006, as well as being awarded with the title of the second "greatest metal band of all time," with Black Sabbath taking the number one spot. More recently, the band have released their album "Redeemer of Souls," which has spurred an international tour in support of its release, achieving the band's first top 10 album in the US.

Live reviews

After all these years Judas Priest is still melting the faces off their audience, pounding out their heavy metal music that will rock your world. The members of Judas Priest are all well accomplished musicians each having perfected their craft to a science. Rob Halford can still hit all the high notes pitch perfect with his singing and screaming, Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner act as a symbiotic duo with their dueling guitar shredding, Ian Hill’s bass appropriately lays down the rhythmic foundation, and Scott Travis’ drumming bellows like bullets out of a machine gun.

A live performance of Judas Priest will show why they are one of the most respected and influential heavy metal bands touring today. They have sold over 50 million records and MTV has listed them as the second greatest metal band of all time. Their live performances are a huge spectacle consisting of a grand displays of light and fog, large depictions of tapestry conveying unique presentations of artwork relating to their music, and stage antics by Rob Halford, which usually consists of Halford driving a motorcycle onto stage. Judas Priest is also known for their stage presence, which they helped establish through their fashion. They are notable for sporting heavy metal fashion on stage, which conveys a macho-biker like personality that compliments their style of performance very accurately.

Judas Priest represents the true essence of how a heavy metal band should perform, from the music to the lights to the stage presence. If given the occasion to see these guys live one should jump on the opportunity that will further verify why these guys are one of the most respected heavy metal bands around.

Judas Priest: Still Delivering the Goods A combination of screaming guitar soloing against a pounding drumming backbeat all combined with Rob Halford's strong and distinctive vocals still make for an unbeatable night out at a Priest concert! Such was indeed a cause for celebration as singer Rob Halford mentioned they were celebrating their career on two fronts: "40 years of metal!" as he declared, along with celebrating the 30th anniversary release of their Defenders of the Faith album! As they were touring in support of their new album Redeemer of Souls, the band performed a cross section of cuts off that album including the title track. Older favourities performed off of albums such as British Steel and Defenders of the Faith featured a changing backdrop displaying the artwork as they performed songs from the corresponding albums. Such was the case for cuts such as Metal Gods off the former along with Love Bites and Defenders of the Faith off the latter album. What was especially intriguing were scenes included from film Nosferatu during Love Bites, making for a Halloween ambiance! Being a motorcyclist as well, the night would not have been complete without Halford's riding onto the stage on one during Hell Bent for Leather. A grand night out at the Grand Theatre at Foxwoods! Song list included Hell Bent for Leather, Defenders of the Faith, Love Bites, You've got Another Thing Coming, Metal Gods, Turbo Lover, Redeemer of Souls, Living After Midnight and many more!

I'll start with the band. They had a time out, and Halford voice shows it. He's full of energy and has a surprising full range. The drummer is a beast and shows his well polished craft not as a time keeper but as the percussion section. He is just as great a musician as the rest. The guitars are excelent soulful and moving or energetic and dramatic, happy sad... They can landscape while also presenting something appeal to all. They are gifted. The baselines make sure everything is together and that is what you have with a 40 year old ensamble in good shape. People who know their craft and collaborate as one to make an outstanding display of what they stand for. The place was excelente. I was concerned about having to ride for 2 hours and leaving my bike unprotected. If something happened I'd be stranded a long long way from any sort of help. Everything was spot on. The venue was incredible I mean these are a stadium filling band... And I had them right there... How Halford manages to get his bike onto that stage surprises me. Everyone involved made sure that these fine musicians would be backed up by an equally great show. Kudos to all involves

I honestly don't know how to say how incredible Judas Priest still is even 49 years after they formed. Rob Halford can still hit those serious high notes even now in his 60s just like he did 40 years ago. This is evident when doing Saints in Hell and Painkiller.

The album Firepower and this tour have shown that Richie Faulkner is definitely not the 'new kid on the block' anymore but a real player for Judas Priest and helping to keep the Priest sound alive. I have to say listening to Faulkner playing Running Wild and Saints in Hell was a great experience. He is a great guitarist.

The best thing was when Glenn Tipton came on and played the last 3 songs: Metal Gods, Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight. I will say that Andy Sneap has done a great job filling in for Tipton. But Glenn feeling good to come out and play what I consider classic Judas Priest songs was absolutely epic!

It is one of the best concerts I have been to in a long time! The energy from Judas Priest and their love of playing was evident in the energy of the crowd.

If you love metal you need to see Judas Priest live!

Judas Priest is a heavy metal icon. For 40 years they have been pumping us with great vocals and guitar solos. Who said 63 was old? Certainly not Rob Halford. Everytime they come to town which seems to be every 2 years I must see a show. It's a way to go back to my youth and help me realise we had great music when we were young and we still do. Rob's vocals are amazing. He can still hit the high notes. His showmanship is inspiring and I cannot wait to take my nephew to a show. KK Downing has retired. Glen Tipton can still crank that guitar. If you have an opportunity go check out the show. They still play classic Priest with two to three new songs. And of course dont forget Rob rolling in on his Harley on stage. Awesome.

Judas Priest never fails to impress and entertain. This was my 25th Priest concert and this one, like all the ones before, blew me away. I am very sorry I didn't get to see Glenn Tipton perform, but Andy Sneap filled in just nicely, like he has been on stage with them since the beginning. Rob.. what can I say about Rob that true fans don't already know? The man still has it! Such an exquisite and strong voice.. gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. No one, NO ONE will ever come close to outperforming, outplaying, out-singing, and outscreaming Judas Priest and THE METAL GOD . I look forward to my 26th show. Metal GODS! They are, after all...

Judas Fucking Priest!

1986, 1988, 2005, 2011, 2019. These are the years I seen the mighty Judas Priest and they continue to rock after all these years. They have changed their set list every time I seen them and glad I made it to the concert(s). Rob Halford is still hitting those high notes which is amazing since is getting up there in years. This is the first time not seeing Glenn Tipton in the band. His Parkinson's disease has really affected his playing, as he didn't come out for the encore songs.

If you are trying to decide to go at the last minute to see JP, just go. Don't procrastinate. Go, now. Get your ticket. Enjoy the show.

I think the last time I saw Judas Priest was nearly 30 years ago and I have to say they sounded just like they did back then. Rob can still hit the high note like no one else. It may mot be the same line up I saw before but these guys can still ROCK OUT HARD. It was sad that Glenn Tipton wasn't there but it was really cool that they included some live footage from another show and highlighted his solo piece. Rob even gave a shout out in honor of Glenn...that what straight up awesome. Can't wait to see them again if I get the chance. AWESOME show from beginning to the end.

This was my 4th time seeing Judas Priest, it is always a killer show!

Rob is one of the best frontmen of all time! He entertains on such a personal level, he always thanks the fans for their love and support, which is such an old school mentality that I greatly appreciate.

Priest is one band I will go anywhere to see no matter how far they travel. The best part of this show was it was Halloween and even Rob put on a mask by the end of the night...just a stellar performance by Priest I won't soon forget.

Keeping it metal:)

Halford and crew delivered the goods. New set list for 2019 including awesome deep cuts like Take These Chains and a few brand new cuts from Firepower - the greatest metal album since the 80s (and better than most of those)! This is a MUST SEE concert for any true metal fan. Incredible show! Band should have moved around the stage a little more - Rob sure did. Sure wish Glenn could have come out to say Hi even if he can’t play. These guys are true legends. Great show. Bring the next generation with you. @gilbilly88

"No holograms, no troupes of dancers, just a giant light-up trident descending from the ceiling": Judas Priest keep it simple on a triumphant first night of the Invincible Shield tour

A show 160 years in the making: judas priest, saxon and uriah heap take to the stage in glasgow.

Judas Priest onstage in Glasgow

You can trust Louder Our experienced team has worked for some of the biggest brands in music. From testing headphones to reviewing albums, our experts aim to create reviews you can trust. Find out more about how we review.

There are only two kinds of music that matter tonight: Heavy and Metal. Three British bands, with a total of 160 years on the clock between them, have packed out the 12,000-seater OVO Hydro. Here, the chaos of the world is kept outside, this giant concrete and glass colosseum on the banks of the Clyde surrounded by an invisible forcefield. Or maybe an invincible shield.

This is the first night of the world tour in support of Judas Priest ’s 19th album, Invincible Shield (yeah, we went there). It’s a screaming demon of a record that keeps up the hot streak which began with 2014’s rocket-fuelled Redeemer Of Souls and continued through 2018’s pulverising Firepower . Do Priest – 55 years and counting in the game themselves – have the energy to pull it off? Oh yes, they definitely do.

We’ll get to that, but first the undercard. Openers Uriah Heep have been doing this as long as Priest, doughty footsoldiers on heavy metal’s long and unending route march. They rattle through a set so short it’s a wonder they bothered to pull themselves away from the telly, but Gypsy and Easy Livin’ sound as exhilarating now as they did when double denim and luxuriant moustaches were all the rage first time around.

Saxon are the young bucks on tonight’s bill by comparison, even if Biff Byford increasingly resembles an old oak, topped with silver and more rooted to the spot than he used to be. We get four songs from their latest album, Hell, Fire And Damnation , which is a touch on the generous side (though There’s Something In Roswell is way better than its crackpot title suggests). But everyone’s here for the classics, and they know it: Motorcycle Man , And The Bands Played On , Dallas 1pm , Wheels Of Steel and Princess Of The Night, still the greatest song about a steam train ever written. “This is what it’s fucking all about,” booms Biff before a euphoric Denim And Leather . He’s not wrong.

There’s a reason Priest called their new album what they did, given the rough time of it they’ve had in the last few years. Talismanic guitarist Glenn Tipton’s Parkinson’s diagnosis and subsequent retirement, recent-ish recruit Richie Faulkner’s near-fatal onstage heart attack , Rob Halford’s recovery from prostate cancer – if there is a God, it looks like he’s not much of a Judas Priest fan. Yet here they are, leather-clad and studded up, striding onto the OVO stage to a fanfare worthy of a Queen (or at least Queen), as youthful in spirit, if not in body, as they‘ve ever been.

Invincible Shield is a top-tier Priest album, and one that doesn’t sound too far away from the ones they used to make, so few here begrudge them opening with the adrenalised assault of recent single Panic Attack . Even those who have resolutely refused to listen to anything after Painkiller will be pacified by Rapid Fire , despatched in quick succession. Halford manages to lose his way a little in the tongue-tangling wordplay – come on, he’s only been singing it for 44 years – but at least he nails ‘desolisating’, which is the important bit. When exactly did heavy metal bands stop making up their own words anyway?

Judas Priest - Intro/Panic Attack Live At Glasgow Hydro 11/03/2024 - YouTube

Priest haven’t played UK arenas for decades, and it’s easy to forget just how boomingly heavy they sound. Not least bassist Ian Hill, the rock on which Priest have been built for the last 50-odd years. Does it matter that his great thwacking bass is the loudest thing in the mix? No, it does not. There’s some milksop with an acoustic guitar playing across town if it’s too loud for you.

Halford himself is obscenely sprightly tonight, which is to say way more agile than any 72-year old wrapped in a layer of leather, rivet-work and, sporadically, a spangly silver coat has a right to be. Vocally, he‘s on fire – the high notes are hit precisely when they should be, which, in the case of Screaming For Vengeance , is pretty much from start to finish. He even tosses in what sounds like a death growl during the immortal Metal Gods .

By modern standards, the stage set is relatively restrained yet undeniably effective. Banks of giant screens at the back of the stage project a retina-roasting array of colours and images – a dirty and scuffed Union Jack during Breaking The Law , footage from the old silent horror movie Nosferatu during Love Bites , vintage footage of the absent Tipton during a stellar Victim Of Changes , his hair flowing and his red patent leather strides positively creaking with intent. Beyond that, there’s not much - no second stage, no holograms, no troupes of dancers, just a giant light-up trident that periodically descends from the ceiling. But sometimes a giant light-up trident is all you need.

The setlist is as perfectly balanced as can be expected from a band with as deep a catalogue as Priest. There are new songs ( Lightning Strike , Panic Attack , Trial By Fire and Invincible Shield itself all get a run out, the first ever for the latter three). There are old songs ( You Got Another Thing Coming , Turbo , Green Manalishi ). There are even a couple of deep-ish cuts in the form of Saints In Hell and Love Bites .

The wrap it up, naturally, with a triumphant Hell Bent For Leather – sung by Halford on his Harley, of course – and Livin’ After Midnight . “We hit Glasgow about 1am,”  Rob sings on the latter – optimistic, maybe, but 12,000-odd people are right there partying with him in their heads. “We’ll be back,” he says when it’s finished. Time may march on, but only a fool would bet against that.

Judas Priest's Invincible Shield tour continues at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Wednesday evening (March 13). For full dates and tickets, visit the Judas Priest website .

Rob Halford appears on the cover of the new issue of Metal Hammer (with some kittens), while Halford and Richie Faulkner are interviewed about the making of Invincible Shield in the new issue of Classic Rock .

Judas Priest Kick Off Fall US Tour, Perform “Genocide” for First Time in 40 Years: Watch

The post Judas Priest Kick Off Fall US Tour, Perform “Genocide” for First Time in 40 Years: Watch appeared first on Consequence .

Judas Priest launched the latest US leg of their “50 Heavy Metal Years” tour in Wallingford, Connecticut, on Thursday (October 13th), and the setlist was a treat for hardcore fans. The night featured a few rarities, including the band’s first live performance of “Genocide” in 40 years.

The tour, which includes support from Queensrÿche , runs through a November 29th show in Houston, Texas, and tickets to the upcoming dates are available via Ticketmaster .

With Judas Priest’s seminal 1982 album Screaming for Vengeance celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the band had teased that the LP would get some love on this tour. That album was represented by the title track and “Riding on the Wind,” performed for the first time since 2015 and 2005, respectively, as well as “The Hellion/Electric Eye” and, of course, the hit “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’.”

While the setlist offered a number of deep cuts, “Genocide” (from Priest’s 1976 album Sad Wings of Destiny ) was the biggest surprise, as it was the first time the band performed the song since October 28th, 1982, according to Setlist.fm .

Elsewhere in the set, Judas Priest played “Between the Hammer and the Anvil” for the first time since 2009 and “Jawbreaker” and “Beyond the Realms of Death” for the first time since 2015. They also gave the Firepower track “Never the Heroes” its live debut.

Will Judas Priest continue with a similar setlist or even add new gems to the mix? Time will tell, but the unique song choices should get Judas Priest fans pumped for the upcoming shows.

What’s more, opening act Queensrÿche gave two new songs at their live debut at the show: “Behind the Walls” and “In Extremis.” Both tunes appear on the band’s 16th studio album, Digital Noise Alliance , which dropped earlier this month.

Judas Priest, a powerhouse in the world of heavy metal has spent over 50 years crafting a legendary career. Emerging from Birmingham in 1969, their impact and influence in the genre remain unparalleled. The band originally solidified their place in music history with iconic albums like ‘Sad Wings of Destiny’ and ‘Sin After Sin’ known for metal anthems like ‘Sinner’ and ‘Hell Bent for Leather’ while pioneering the leather-and-studs image now synonymous with the metal culture

The ’80s marked their pinnacle with classic albums ‘British Steel’, ‘Screaming for Vengeance’, and ‘Defenders of the Faith’, generating timeless hits like ‘Breaking the Law’. Despite lineup changes and various challenges, the band’s resilience remained unwavering. In 2018 Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, Richie Faulkner, Ian Hill and Scott Travis released ‘Firepower’ which soared as one of their most successful albums, backed by an extensive global tour

Amid health setbacks and the pandemic, they persevered with a 50th-anniversary tour and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Preparing for the release of their 19th studio album ‘Invincible Shield’ and a headlining performance at the 2023 PowerTrip Music Festival, Judas Priest’s unwavering dedication to spreading their heavy metal legacy continues, promising to rock on into 2024 and beyond.

KK'S PRIEST Announces First Leg Of 2024 USA Headline Tour

Former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing 's new band KK'S PRIEST has announced its first-ever U.S. headlining tour.

The trek will kick off on March 7, 2024 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and will feature support from L.A. GUNS and BURNING WITCHES . The tour will be the first of at least a two-leg USA run of shows, planned to continue later in 2024.

Tickets for the KK'S PRIEST tour will go on sale to the general public tomorrow, Saturday, December 16 at 10:00 a.m. EST. Check local venues or visit www.kkspriest.com to buy yours.

Downing says: "It has been far too long! I am very excited to announce that KK'S PRIEST will soon have the honor of playing our first-ever shows in the USA starting March 7th 2024. Finally, KK'S PRIEST metal is coming to my dear home away from home.

"We will be very proud to bring you the finest British steel from England — where the embryo of this beloved music was conceived so many years ago.

"The sands of time have moved so quickly for us all, but I am sure we all feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of this nostalgic journey.

"I look forward to seeing everyone again. Rest assured that it will be 'Blood And Thunder', with 'Hellfire Thunderbolts' and much more. We promise to make history again together with you on this very special occasion.

"See you very soon!"

KK'S PRIEST made its live debut on July 6 at Downing's KK's Steel Mill in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom.

KK'S PRIEST kicked off a five-date "Priests, Killers & Witches" U.K. tour on October 7 at O2 Institute in Birmingham. Special guest on all dates was former IRON MAIDEN vocalist Paul Di'Anno who performed a full set of classics straight from the first two MAIDEN records, and opening up the bill was BURNING WITCHES .

KK'S PRIEST 's sophomore album, "The Sinner Rides Again" , came out in September via the Austrian label Napalm Records .

Joining Downing in KK'S PRIEST are former JUDAS PRIEST singer Tim "Ripper" Owens , as well as guitarist A.J. Mills ( HOSTILE ),bassist Tony Newton ( VOODOO SIX ) and drummer Sean Elg ( DEATHRIDERS , CAGE ).

The art for "The Sinner Rides Again" was created by talented artist Andy Pilkington .

K.K. formed KK'S PRIEST after JUDAS PRIEST turned down his offer to rejoin the band for their 50th-anniversary tour. It followed a couple of celebrated stage appearances, first with former MANOWAR guitarist Ross The Boss in the summer of 2019, then with a one-off lineup that included former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson and former PRIEST drummer Les Binks later that year.

KK'S PRIEST released its debut album, "Sermons Of The Sinner" , in October 2021 via Explorer1 Music Group / EX1 Records .

Downing spent four months writing and recording "Sermons Of The Sinner" and, along with new ideas, he even resurrected a few archived riffs from the 1980s.

Downing was reunited with JUDAS PRIEST for a performance at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony last November at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

PRIEST received the Musical Excellence Award at the event, which honored Eminem , Dolly Parton , DURAN DURAN , Lionel Richie , Pat Benatar , EURYTHMICS and Carly Simon in the Performers category.

Downing left PRIEST in 2011 amid claims of band conflict, shoddy management and declining quality of performance. He was replaced by Richie Faulkner , nearly three decades his junior.

In 2019, Downing said that he reached out to JUDAS PRIEST about taking part in the band's 50th-anniversary tour but that their response was that they were not interested in including him in the celebrations.

In 2018, Downing revealed that he sent two resignation letters to his bandmates when he decided to quit JUDAS PRIEST . The first was described as "a graceful exit note, implying a smooth retirement from music," while the second was "angrier, laying out all of his frustrations with specific parties."

Downing later said that he believed the second letter was "a key reason" he wasn't invited to rejoin PRIEST after Glenn Tipton 's decision to retire from touring.

Owens joined PRIEST in 1996 and recorded two studio albums with the band — 1997's "Jugulator" and 2001's "Demolition" — before PRIEST reunited with Rob Halford in 2003.

Till Lindemann wears thick glasses while looking down in a photo.

Till Lindemann is leaving Rammstein behind in 2024.

Starting in September, the bombastic frontman will embark on his first solo U.S. tour with special guests Twin Temple and Aesthetic Perfection in support of his 2023 solo album “Zunge.”

Midway through the fall run, the 61-year-old drops into New York’s The Rooftop at Pier 17 on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

While this will be Lindemann’s first solo stateside jaunt, it won’t be the first time he’s performed without Rammstein.

Most recently, he wrapped an international 2023-24 solo tour in Mexico, according to Set List FM . On that run, he regularly performed 19 songs — including two encores — per show.

While we can’t guarantee what he’ll bring to the stage on his forthcoming North American tour, we do know the best way to find out is live.

Ccan’t wait to see the lively Lindemann?

You’re in luck. Tickets can be snagged for all of his 2024 U.S. and Canada concerts and festival appearances as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 26, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

Till Lindemann tour schedule 2024

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues and links to buy tickets can be found below.

Till Lindemann festival appearances

This September and October, Lindemann will lend his talents to a pair of heavy multi-day musical extravaganzas.

For a closer look, here are the dates, venues and fellow headliners at both festivals.

Till Lindemann set list

As noted above, Lindemann wrapped his 2023-24 in Mexico on Jan. 4.

Here’s what he performed that night, courtesy of Set List FM .

01.) “Zunge” 02.) “Schweiss” 03.) “Fat” 04.) “Altes Fleisch” 05.) “Allesfresser” 06.) “Golden Shower” 07.) “Tanzlehrerin” 08.) “Ich weiß es nicht” 09.) “Sport frei” 10.) “Blut” 11.) “Praise Abort” 12.) “Platz Eins” 13.) “Fish On” 14.) “Gummi” 15.) “Steh auf” Encore

16.) “Knebel” 17.) “Ich hasse Kinder” 18.) “Skills in Pills” Encore II

19.) “Entre dos tierras” (Héroes del Silencio cover)

Till Lindemann new music

On Nov. 3, 2023, Lindemann dropped his solo album “Zunge.”

Comprised of 11 tracks, the heavy rocker stretches his musical muscles and alternates between intimate quiet and chaotic, epic loud — the sound Rammstein is known for — with ease.

Highlights include the quirky “Sports Frei,” thumping “Altes Fleisch” and warbly anthem “Du hast kein Herz.”

Personally, we were most taken with the Ennio Morricone-esque “Tanzlehrerin” with its guitar licks, yearning vocals and gifted yet pained backing singer giving her all behind Lindemann.

Don’t sleep on the shockingly fun album closer “Selbst verliebt,” either. It’s an unexpected pop delicacy.

Want to hear for yourself?

You can listen to “Zunge” in its entirety here .

On Christmas 2023, Lindemann followed up the album release with the whirly, tongue trilling single “Entre dos tierras” en español.

It has our stamp of approval as well; the song is quite a bit of fun.

Till Lindemann special guests

At all shows, Lindemann will be joined by a pair of opening acts.

To make sure you’re acquainted with their sounds, you can find each band’s most-streamed song on Spotify below.

Twin Temple: “Lucifer, My Love”

Aesthetic Perfection: “Spit It Out”

Till Lindemann controversy

Lindemann was accused of sexual assault by a female fan last June over social media. She alleged he drugged her at a pre-show Rammstein VIP party in Lithuania and later approached her fox sex during intermission.

This led to backlash against Rammstein’s “VIP Experience;” fans believed Lindemann was using the ticket tier to bed fans.

After looking into the case, German prosectors dropped the case due to lack of evidence and testimony.

“The rapid termination of investigative proceedings by the Berlin state prosecutor’s office shows that there is insufficient evidence that our client allegedly committed sexual offen(s)es,” Lindemann’s lawyers said.

Rammstein drummer claimed Lindemann “has distanced himself from us in recent years and created his own bubble” and “things seem to have happened that, although legally ok, I personally don’t think are ok.”

Huge metal acts on tour in 2024

If Lindemann’s brief jaunt isn’t coming to a venue near you, we have just the solution.

Here are five metal acts that might be headed to your city these next few months.

•  Rob Zombie with Alice Cooper

•  Limp Bizkit
