The best tequila tasting I've had in my wonderful alcoholic adventures. The staff were super friendly. The best part of the tour was the tour guides way of explaining how it's made. The actual tequila also was very smooth. The location is very spacious and clean. The sayings they have before you drink were hilarious. We definitely will come back soon.

I went here as part of a Tequila Tour and enjoyed my experience. The facility is setup nicely and our tour guide gave very detailed information about Tequila Production. I was glad that they gave some fruit punch to start before any alcohol tastings and gave plenty of explanation (and some snacks) between different tastings. The service here was good as they were more than happy to answer questions and help with requests. Be warned (in a good way) though that the tequila pours are quite generous, so you will get plenty of liquor in a short amount of time. Afterwards, you can also get some tacos to eat and do some light shopping.

On a cruise our excursion brought my father and I to this place. Learning about the tequila making process mixed with 6 shots of tequila and out came my credit card. I didn't have a tequila I didn't love. I came home with a large bottle of every kind they make. Silver, resparado, anejo, almond, peach and coffee. Some salts hot sauce. Between my father and I about 5 liters worth. They have a little restaurant on site that had a lunch deal not to be missed. 3 tacos for $5 and a $5 margarita. I am saddened that this place doesn't ship. If I go back to PV I this place is on top of my list to return to.

This is the best tequila I've ever had in my life. I went on a horseback riding tour that included and tequila tasting. Not only are they safe with the coronavirus, but they handled food and drink very well too. I would highly recommend going and taking them out. My group and I had an absolutely phenomenal experience

If you have the opportunity to come here, DO IT. Some of the best tequila I've ever had and they have so many amazing flavors! I came here on a tour with Princess Cruises and it did NOT disappoint. First of all, the hacienda itself is beautiful with gorgeous mission-style architecture and a well-kept lawn. They have both blue and green agave plants lining the entryway to the grand room where they have their store and seating for tastings. Outside they also have a restaurante where they serve delicious tacos with pork, beef or chicken. (try the salsa, I dare you.) The tequila itself is out of this world. They have their general Blanco (which is so smooth it WILL make your panties drop), Reposado, and extra aged Añejo. They also have great flavors like cafe (coffee), almendra (almond) and peach flavored! I HIGHLY recommend the almendra. We went home with the small bottles of each and a large bottle of the almond because it was truly amazing. The staff and guides are all very nice and friendly, and they tasting is truly...generous. Highly recommend coming here if you have a chance while visiting Puerto Vallarta. it's only about half an hour to 45 minutes from El Malecón!

If you want to taste some really great tequilas and get a tequila education, Hacienda Dona Engracia is the place to go. They have a small restaurant with very limited food servings but after the purchase of you first, near unlimited tequila drinks serve at no extra charge. You can trust me on that as I managed to "accidently" get myself sloshed even before they had organized the tequila tasting. This where they make some of Mexico's very best 100% agave tequilas and where they are open for tours along with tequila educational programs and tequila tastings. They take you around, show you how tequila was made in years gone by and give you some insight in to how it is made today along with a discussion of the various types of regular as well as infused tequilas. Most of the cruise lines that stop in Puerto Vallarta offer tour options of Hacienda Dona Engracia on their agenda.

We bought an excursion from Ruby Princess and was taken to this place. We were given a tour on how to make tequilas. In the tasting room, we had the chance to taste 6 different kinds of tequilas. I don't drink, but my husband loves the coffee and the almond tequilas. A bottle of almond tequila was $35. There's also a place that sells tacos. $5 for 2 tacos. Many of us from the tour didn't buy because we were all still full. Overall it was a good experience.

We came to this "restaurant" for watching shows (dancing, roping and horse show) and tasting (and listened to a lecturing on) tequila. Foods were in buffet style, so-so, nothing particular.

No trip to Mexico would be complete without sampling the country’s famous spirits. You’ve got a few options for Puerto Vallarta tequila tours, where you’ll also get to try mezcal and racilla.

Not sure what the difference is between the three? No worries; at the end of this post, you can read more about this. But the best way to learn is in person on one of these Tequila tours in Puerto Vallarta.

Best Tequila Tour in Puerto Vallarta

Don’t have time to read this? This 5-star rated tour is the best option for tequila tasting in Puerto Vallarta.

Table of Contents

Top Tequila Tours in Puerto Vallarta

While choosing your own adventure is possible (check our post about the best bars in Puerto Vallarta ), it’s more fun with a group and a knowledgeable local guide.

We’ve done plenty of, let’s call it “research,” and these are the best options for Puerto Vallarta tequila tours.

Tequila tours in Puerto Vallarta

1. Connoisseur Tequila Tasting

tequila tour in puerto vallarta

Life is better with options, and you’ve got three of them on this tour . You can choose between the introduction, connoisseur, or mezcal option. My personal recommendation is the latter, as it’s fun to try both of the agave spirits.

What a cool experience. The tasting room is in an up-and-coming neighborhood, Versailles, tucked among a bunch of great restaurants, but the true highlight here is the tequila and the instruction about it. Tequila has a fascinating story, more akin to wine than many spirits and it was absolutely worth learning about (and enjoying)! – Review by Justin ( read more reviews )

This tour takes place in Versalles , which is one of the top neighborhoods in PV.

It’s a foodie haven as well, so you might as well grab a bite to eat while you’re there. Some of my favorite spots include Lamara for ceviche, Budaixi for dumplings and noodles, and El Tío Toño for birria.

2. Vallarta Botanical Garden and Tequila Tasting

Puerto Vallarta Botanical Garden

This highly-rated tour takes you to the lovely Vallarta Botanical Garden first. It recently won the American Public Gardens Association’s 2022 Garden of Excellence Award, and deservedly so. This is one of our favorite places to visit in PV, and it should definitely be on your itinerary.

After touring the garden, you’ll get to head to Rancho Los Veranos to learn all about the process of making tequila as you sample the famous spirit. It’s also possible to order lunch here, but just be aware that it is not included in the tour. Either way, I’d advise eating a big breakfast before going on this tour.

We had a wonderful experience on this tour! The tour guide was authentic and professional. The history shared was so informative and full of pride. The Garden was magical and mystical. The tequila tasting was so fun and the prices for the bottles to buy were half the price of some of the local liquor stores down town!! My husband and I are tequila enthusiasts so we really appreciated the quality of the tequila!! Highly recommended!! – Kenneth ( see more reviews here) .

3. Noble Corazon

Puerto Vallarta tequila tasting

Of all the Puerto Vallarta tastings out there, this has to be my fave. And it’s not just because my picture is all over their website. We were not just hamming it up for the camera when we were there – it really was an awesome experience.

You can book their classic tequila tasting at Casa Agavera Vallarta in the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood. Their experts will teach you about the distilling process as you sip on their excellent tequila, mezcal, and racilla.

It’s also possible to book a private tour at your place. If you have an Airbnb with a group, this should definitely be added to your PV itinerary.

4. City Tour with Tequila and Coffee Tasting

Tacos & tequila

This tour checks a lot of the boxes for top things to do in Puerto Vallarta. You’ll get to stroll the famous Malecon, see the iconic Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, visit a Tequila distillery, and check out a local coffee factory.

There’s also an option to add lunch for this tour. It seems like the food is more expensive if you order it while on the tour, so you may want to add it in advance.

The tour was really fun. Went with my wife and we really enjoyed ourselves. Especially at the tequila tasting. The guide was really nice, knowledgeable and really helped in making sure the entire group had a good time. Doesn’t matter what age you are, because by the end of the tequila tasting you’ll be having a good time. I highly recommend that people book this activity when coming to Puerto Vallarta. – GetYourGuide (read more reviews here).

Tours that visit Tequila (the town)

Most of these tours happen in and around PV, but it’s also possible to travel to the town of Tequila itself. That’s right – there’s an actual town called Tequila! It’s in the state of Jalisco, and it’s the birthplace of the famous spirit.

5. Toriles and Tequila Day Trip

agave fields of tequila

Make sure you rest up before this Tequila tour , as it’s a big one. This 12-hour excursion takes you to Aztec ruins in the town of Toriles as well as the birthplace of tequila itself.

Walk through the agave fields and visit a distillery as you learn all about the process of making tequila. The tour also includes a hearty breakfast, so you’ll be nice and full before the tequila tasting.

It’s a long drive, but the town of Tequila was all I expected. Wish we could have stayed longer, but soaked in all we could. Thank you Thomas! – Thomas ( read more reviews here)

Tequila is about a four-hour drive from Puerto Vallarta, so it does make for a long day if you’re doing it round-trip. If you want to visit Tequila and have the time, I recommend planning a weekend trip to Guadalajara and visiting Tequila from there, as it’s much closer.

Different Types of Mexican Liquor

Tequila and mezcal both come from the agave plant. The difference is that tequila can only be made from blue agave , while mezcal can be made from many types of agave.

Basically, tequila is a type of mezcal, just like bourbon is a type of whiskey. While they are both made from agave, they taste quite different. Many describe mezcal as having a smokey taste. Since it can be made from many agave types, the taste can vary quite a bit.

There are different types of tequila and mezcal based on how long they are aged. For tequila, these are blanco (0-2 months), reposado (2-12 months), and añejo (1-3 years).

Meanwhile, for mezcal, you have joven (0-2 months), reposado (2-12 months), and añejo (at least one year).

Mezcal in Puerto Vallarta

They all have different colors and tastes, so you may want to try them all to find out which type you prefer. That’s where these awesome Puerto Vallarta tequila tours come in handy!

But how about that other Mexican spirit? You might have never heard of racilla, but it’s an important part of the local culture here in Puerto Vallarta. That’s because it is only made right here in the state of Jalisco.

Racilla is also made from the agave plant, but the process differs. This results in a unique taste that’s nothing like tequila or mezcal. It’s still somewhat of an underground phenomenon, and it’s possible to buy bootleg racilla from unmarked plastic bottles.

If you’re not into that, never fear – you can sample it on some of these tequila tours.

That does it for this rundown of the best Puerto Vallarta tequila tours.

Whatever option you choose, remember to pace yourself. Do you know that saying “one tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor?” It exists for a reason. Be sure to stay hydrated and don’t drink on an empty stomach.

We learned that lesson the hard way and always order some food when we imbibe in tequila, so learn from our past mistakes and eat some tacos!

Since 1952, Mexico’s Crafted Nature Tequila

Our essence

Tequila Siete Leguas is red soil, agave, our people and our roots.

In 1952 Ignacio González Vargas, founder of Casa Siete Leguas, began producing tequila using artisanal production processes. He named his tequila in honor of General Francisco Villa’s horse, El Siete Leguas.

A legua (league) is 8.1 miles; 7 leagues is the distance between many towns in Mexico.

General Villa’s horse was given this name because it ran that distance fearlessly from one town to another always persevering, never straying, while carrying the General into battle.

We didn't get to do tequila tasting and we only got to do 5 instead of 10 Zipline. The experience was okay but could be better if we got to the right place and got the full experience. For atv, I suggest you be experienced before going. It's for intermediate/advanced drivers. We did everything in 5 hrs and I feel it could have been spaced out more to 6 hrs to enjoy and not be rushed. It takes 1 hr each way. Gopralia did address the situation and talked with the local tour operator. We’re happy with that. Read more Written February 29, 2024

When we arrived in the mountains, there were a few activities going on, music and treats to enjoy and of course tequila and margaritas. Then we attended a Mexican rodeo. A beautiful display of horses, donkeys and their riders who were very talented and dressed in beautiful costumes. The audience participated in a few games. We laughed a lot. A total of six hours round trip. The time we spent at the marietas beach was less than 20 minutes. They have kayaks but you can only kayak around the boat. Only two kayaks were out for over a hundred people. It was a waste of a day. I do not recommend. They do have snorkeling and kayaking but it’s very limited time since you have to alternate with everyone else. Kayaking around the boat and 30 minutes snorkeling and 20 minutes beach time. With 6 hours of traveling, not worth the time. Read more Written January 6, 2024

Make sure to bring your swimsuit if you want to get in. There is also a really good tequila tasting on the way back! Everyone was very nice. My only concern is I think the instructions for our specific meeting point could of been more clear. It just says to meet at the Barcelo hotel when in reality the ATV office is down the street in front of the Barcelo towards the OXXO. Also, the workers at the office looked very confused when I showed them our trip advisor ticket. Everything worked out in the end, just wish we had a bit more reassurance to find the right spot. • Z7321FMalexb 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Not worth it They make you stay in the water for 45min snorkelling at a laughable cove where we only saw two tiny fish. Nothing to see after 5min and your not allowed to return to the boat till 45min is up. You then have to go back to the boat in groups on small boat. Hidden beach you have to be taken to by boat in small groups. If you stay on the boat your stuck sharing two kayaks and two paddle boards with potentially 50 other guests. Trip turned into a 9hr excursion because the boat was going so slow and a lot of wasted time at very basic sights. Food was meh - breakfast kinda gross actually. Staff was nice I guess. Puerto Vallarta Tequila Tour and Tasting

Learn about the process of making Tequila and other agave spirits!

The Only Distillery In Puerto Vallarta

We are the only distillery that actually produces our own agave distillates within the municipality of Puerto Vallarta. Don't be fooled by fake tequila distilleries trying to sell you white-labeled tequila. Here we produce agave spirits the way tequila was originally made 400 years ago.

Taste, Smell, Touch, Hear, See

You will get an understanding and a whole new level of respect for tequila, raicilla, and mezcal. The experience is sensorial and will take you senses to new depths! You will get to enjoy the beautiful site, smell agave, and possibly even take part in parts of the process.

Detailed Tequila Education

We provide a level of education that nobody else can provide in Puerto Vallarta. That is because we actually distill on the property and you can see the entire process in action from start to finish. We also have an onsite master sommelier to guide you through your tequila tasting.

Only in Mexico

We bring you an experience that can only be found in Mexico. That means buying tequila, raicilla, and mezcal that is not available in the United States. Our tours give you an inside view of how the locals live.

Puerto Vallarta Tequila Tour FAQ

Where exactly is the pickup point? >  Blvd. Francisco Medina Ascencio 4168, Villa Las Flores, 48335 Puerto Vallarta, Jal.  Meet right across the street from the airport at the exact time of your tour. You will see a pair of white gates. Walkthrough the white gates and you will find chairs directly to the right. Please wait there for your driver.  Can I bring children to the tequila tour?

> No. Due to the hot sun, uneven terrain, serving of alcohol, and out of respect for our other guest, children are not allowed.

Is there somewhere close we can eat before or after the tequila tour that you recommend? > Our best recommendation is about 5 minutes before the distillery coming from Puerto Vallarta. It is called "Las Casuelas" and they serve traditional Mexican ranch-style food.

Do you have a certified tequila NOM?

> No. Although we are located within the denomination of origin for tequila, work with the blue weber agave, and use all of the same processes that a NOM certified tequila distillery would use, we do not produce NOM certified tequila. This is because we are extremely artisanal and our production capacity is a lot smaller than what it takes to get certified in tequila. We also work with many other kinds of agave other than the blue weber. As of right now, we are called agave spirits.

What spirits will I be tasting on the tequila tour?

> The on-site sommelier curates tastings different from tour to tour. All Mexican agave spirits including; tequila, mezcal, raicila, bacanora, sotol, tuxca, and pox could possibly be available to taste.

Can I bring pets? > No. Pets are strictly prohibited on the property as they could be in danger do to other animals on the property.  What should I wear for the tequila tour? > It is best to wear closed to shoes on the tour. Sometimes the tour can also be sunny and it is best to bring a hat. What is the cancellation policy? > To receive a full refund, cancellations must occur in writing at least 24 hours before the tour. After, no refunds will be issued.

Valley of Tequila Day Tour

Valley of Tequila Map

Our Guadalajara-based Valley of Tequila day tour is a fun, educational, single-day experience designed for travelers visiting Guadalajara who are intrigued by tequila.

Working with local providers in Guadalajara and Tequila, we ensure that the standards of these guides are as high as our own.

We visit lesser-known tequila distilleries that are 100% independent, Mexican-owned, and cultivate a love for the land and a pride for their craft. You will leave with a new appreciation for the hard work of these tequila producers and the excellence of their products.

*MAKE IT PRIVATE: We also offer this as a private experience, for those who want more flexibility and individualized attention.
