🚑 Should I buy Australian travel insurance?

100% YES!  — Australia has “free” healthcare but it’s only for citizens and permanent residents. Foreigners visiting need travel insurance in case anything happens on their visit. I like SafetyWing  – their Nomad Insurance starts at just $1.50 USD a day!

🚗 Should I rent a car in Australia?

Yes  —  Renting a car  is a necessity in most of Australia! If you want to go on road trips or adventures outside of the major cities, and even if you’re staying in a major city, you’ll want to rent a car. If you are visiting Margaret River, it will be even more important that you hire a car, you’ll need it to be able to get around and see all the great attractions and wineries!

🏨 What’s the best way to book my Australian accommodation?

My go-to for Australian hotels is  Booking.com . Pretty much all registered accommodation use Booking.com (but not necessarily any of the other major booking platforms), and even most of the holiday homes and caravan parks use Booking.com too!

If you’re planning a trip to Australia where you will stay at multiple locations, it’s super handy to have all your accommodation listed in one place, and accommodation owners like Booking.com because it’s easy to contact the guests using the messaging platform if the guest has an international phone number.

I sincerely hope you enjoy your visit to Margaret River!

Meals:  Breakfast

After breakfast we will pick you up in a small bus, to begin a 4-day touring adventure of Margaret River and the south-west corner of WA. Our first stop is Busselton Jetty which is about 2.5hrs south of Perth. Busselton is a chilled holiday town with pristine Indian Ocean beaches and a 19th-century wooden Jetty which extends nearly 2km out to the ocean. It is the southern hemisphere’s longest, and an impressive sight. From Busselton we will follow the coast round to Cape Naturaliste and visit some of it’s beautiful beaches with Meelup Beach being a highlight. We will also check out the lighthouse precinct and Sugarloaf Rock Lookout to see this massive granite island. We will fill the afternoon picking out spots on the coast before heading to the town of Margaret River to check into our accommodation. Enjoy dinner in the evening at a local restaurant.

Accommodation:  Margarets Forest Holiday Apartments

Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today we will spend the day exploring the natural side of the Margaret River region. Known mainly for it’s wineries and delicious gourmet produce, Margaret River also boasts a spectacular coastline. Perfect white sand beaches, limestone cliffs and deep red granite boulders that beg to be explored.

We will allow time to drop into the famous Cape to Cape walk trail to access some of the more spectacular sites along the coast. While the walking is not hugely demanding, there will be some walking on uneven surfaces for up to an hour or so at a time. A highlight is standing on top of the Wilyabrup sea cliffs, and walking through the tranquil Boranup Karri Forest. For tours in summer we can take a swim at Hamelin Bay. We will pack everything we can into this memorable day out in nature before heading back to our motel, where you can walk into town for an evening meal from one of the many restaurants.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Wine and indulgence are the order of the day! We start a bit later today, with the opportunity to stroll into town for a coffee and a look around. With over 100 wineries in Margaret River we will pick out the best, quaintest and quirkiest. There are some famous names that we cannot miss such as Leeuwin Estate, and Voyager Estate but there are also many smaller boutique producers with fantastic wines and beautiful grounds. The beer lovers will not be forgotten as we will stop at the Cheeky Monkey Brewery for lunch (not included), and we won’t forget about the chocolate fans either.

Meals:  No meals included today

After breakfast, we will leave Margaret River and head to one of the local limestone Caves. This stunningly decorated cave was Western Australia’s very first tourist attraction. By mid afternoon, we will arrive in Fremantle and check you into the centrally located and well presented Esplanade Hotel, for 2 nights.

With ‘Freo’ at your doorstep, there is no end to the nightlife options available. The original Little Creatures Brewery is in view of the hotel, as is the fishing boat harbour which must be the epicentre of Australia’s “Fish and Chip industry”. There are many small bars, quirky restaurants and cafes within walking distance of your hotel. Enjoy a night on the town in one of Australia’s coolest and bohemian towns.

Accommodation:  Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle

Meals: No meals included today

It is about a 10 minute walk from your hotel to B Shed ferry, where you can jump on the 30 minute boat ride over to the perfect island paradise, that is Rottnest Island. After a coffee, it is customary to try to grab a Quokka selfie. These little marsupials have the title of “World’s Friendliest Animals” and are an absolute delight for young and old. If you are feeling energetic, bicycles are a great way to explore the island. You can whip around the island in a couple of hours or take the whole day to explore the many swimming bays and snorkelling spots. If you are feeling like less physical exertion, there is a hop on hop off bus, which constantly rotates around the island and is another way to explore until your heart is content. Take the afternoon ferry back to Fremantle and enjoy one final night in Western Australia’s cultural capital.
