About Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity cruises prices, what is the best celebrity cruises ship, celebrity cruises loyalty program: captain’s club.

With sailings that run the gamut from the Caribbean to Alaska to Europe, Celebrity Cruises offers a ton of options throughout the world. The cruise line has 300 itineraries to all seven continents, many from the line’s home base in Miami.

Before you book a cruise with Celebrity, a line that’s part of the Royal Caribbean family, here’s everything you need to know.

Here are a few key features of Celebrity Cruises to help you decide if the line is right for you.

Cabin types: Depending on the cruise and ship, different cabins may be available — ranging from interior staterooms to suites with private balconies. The most premium option available, The Retreat, includes exclusive and expansive suites, dining, drinks, lounges and more.

Main U.S. routes : If you're planning to depart from the U.S., there are a number of destinations, including Alaska, the Caribbean, New England, Mexico and more. Many begin from ports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Seattle, Boston and New York.

Points currency and loyalty program: The rewards program is called Captain’s Club and you can earn Club Points with every sailing after signing up.

Celebrity Cruises destinations

Celebrity Cruises can take you all over the world, from Alaska to Asia, the Mediterranean to Mexico, and other places in between. And for every destination, there are just as many options for trip length. Sail to the Bahamas for three nights, around Australia for nine or enjoy a transpacific cruise to Tahiti for 18.

» Learn more: Best credit cards for cruises

Just like with most other cruise lines, price depends on the destination and duration of the trip. A 12-night cruise in New Zealand, for example, might be $943 per person, while a four-night cruise to the Bahamas could be $259. The final cost depends on the cabin you choose, of course. On that Bahamas cruise, an interior room may be as low as $259, but a room with a veranda costs $399 and if you opt to book The Retreat, the price tag is a whopping $2,096.

What’s included in the price?

Most Celebrity Cruises offer two booking options: Cruise Only or All Included. With Cruise Only, you can expect the following for no extra cost:

Accommodations.

Entertainment, including theater and live music.

Room service (anytime for Retreat bookings, breakfast only for all other rooms).

If you opt for the All Included package, you also get:

Basic Wi-Fi.

Classic Drinks Package.

» Learn more : The best cruise lines

As of fall 2023, there will be 16 Celebrity Cruises ships in the line’s fleet, including three smaller expedition ships that sail only to the Galapagos Islands. But one of the best according to some Celebrity Cruises reviews may be the Celebrity Apex, which offers itineraries from Portugal to Egypt to Scandinavia. Between the spa, 29 restaurants, two-story villa-style cabins and a photo-ready pool deck, it’s certainly a contender.

What is the newest Celebrity Cruises ship?

The newest ship, the Celebrity Ascent, sets sail out of South Florida in November and may be the poshest ship in the fleet. An Edge Series ship that’s already won numerous awards, it will start by sailing to the Caribbean before cruising to Europe and will feature more expansive views, at least 30 dining options, live entertainment, a full spa and even a rooftop garden.

How to earn Captain’s Club points

Points are earned based on the category of your cabin (larger more expensive cabins earn more points) and the length of your cruise. So the more you spend, the more you earn. For example, you could earn anywhere from two to 24 points per night just based on the suite you book.

Power Up Points

In addition to sailing, you can earn more points through Power Up Points. You will have to sign-up for the program, then Celebrity will email you with opportunities to participate via sharing social media posts or taking surveys. You’ll get one Club Point for every 10 Power Up Points you earn, which will automatically be added to your Captain’s Club account.

Celebrity Cruises Visa Signature Card

The Celebrity Cruises Visa Signature Card also offers a way to earn MyCruise points that can be redeemed for Celebrity cruises, upgrades, and onboard credits. Sign up and score 25,000 bonus points after making at least $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of your account opening.

How to redeem Captain's Club points

How you redeem your Captain’s Club points will depend on what you’re redeeming them for. For discounts on drinks packages, you’ll have to pre-pay before your cruise starts by calling 800-760-0654, while dining discounts will be taken onboard. But many benefits can be viewed and managed from your Captain’s Club account.

Note that because Celebrity Cruises is part of the Royal Caribbean family, status reciprocity exists across the two brands, meaning your status and benefits will be acknowledged on either line you’re currently cruising with whether you earned status with Captain’s Club or Royal Caribbean's Crown & Anchor Society.

» Learn more: Royal Caribbean vs. Carnival

Wi-Fi is available on all ships except for the Galapagos Expedition cruises, but you’ll pay for it: Basic and Premium Wi-Fi packages are available, though cost varies.

Various drinks packages are available on Celebrity Cruises, from a Zero-Proof nonalcoholic package that includes tea, coffee and smoothies for $30 per day, a Classic Drinks Package that starts at $89 per day and includes alcoholic drinks up to $10, to a Premium Package that includes drinks that cost up to $17 and costs $109+ per day.

For most Celebrity sailings, proof of vaccination against COVID or a negative test aren’t required. There are a few exceptions when traveling to destinations with strict regulations, so check with Celebrity before booking to find out.

What Documents Do I Need To Sail?

Each guest is required by Ecuadorian law to have a valid passport with at least six months validity from the departure date from Ecuador. Guests who do not possess the proper documentation may be prevented from boarding their flight or ship, or from debarking or entering a country, and may be subject to fines.

Also, it is important that the name on the reservation be exactly as it is stated on the passport or other official citizenship document. If the guest’s name has changed since the document was issued (i.e. marriage/divorce), it is required that the document be updated with the new name, or provide official supporting document(s) of the name change. Otherwise, it may result in delay or possible denial of boarding.

Visit  celebritycruises.com/documentation  for up-to-date information on documentation. For additional passport information, visit  www.travel.state.gov  or the passport service of your choice, such as CIBT – Passport and Visa Service at  www.cibt.com/celebrity. For more information on Special Groups (requirements for U.S. and Canadian children, groups of children, U.S. Military…), please visit  www.cbp.gov/travel .

Are There Any Medical Documents Necessary Or Restrictions Before Sailing?

Also, there is very little wheelchair accessibility on the Galapagos Islands, and service animals are not permitted in the Galapagos National Park. During a Galapagos journey, guests will need to ascend or descend steps into a motor coach, use stairs, walk and/or climb over uneven ground for extended distances and get on and off inflatable Zodiac tenders. In addition, the land portion of these vacations, including Quito and Galapagos in Ecuador, as well as Lima, Cuzco and Machu Picchu in Peru are not suited to persons who are wheelchair users. Celebrity welcomes guests with disabilities and special needs, and we will provide reasonable and appropriate assistance. Guests requiring assistance should consider their specific needs when making a Galapagos vacation decision. While we do not require information about the extent of your specific situation, the more information you can share with us about your specific needs, the better we are able to assist you. We encourage you to notify us of your needs at time of booking but no later than 30 days prior to sailing.

The landings can be ‘wet’ meaning guests must step into water anywhere from your ankles to your knees and wade to shore. What Is The Difference Between The Itineraries?

The Galapagos Islands are regulated by the Galapagos National Park all of our itineraries are dictated by the park. Every time we renew our permits to sail in the Galapagos that comes with two alternating itineraries for each ship as an environmental mandate. The park decides where we will be going, how long we will stay at each island and what activities or shore excursions we are allowed to partake in. The itineraries are always subject to change based on the parks decisions but mostly stay the same. The most important thing for you to know is that the Galapagos Islands must be seen as a whole destination rather than where they will be in the morning versus the afternoon. All the itineraries in our program are very well balanced and will offer history, flora and fauna they won’t experience anywhere else. Among other animals, they will see blue footed boobies, sea lions, sea turtles and giant tortoises on all itineraries. You will have a fulfilling and memorable experience regardless of the loop you select.

The Survey We Got to Take

Clicking a link in the email we saw took us to a survey.  In the example we were privy to, it was just five questions with multiple choice responses.

  • How interested are you in taking a cruise in the following timeframes?
  • When considering your next cruise, what itinerary would be most appealing?
  • When considering your next cruise, what length of cruise would be most appealing?
  • When considering your next cruise, what class of ships would be most appealing?
  • How long of a flight are you willing to take to go on a cruise vacation?

Power Up Points Survey Questions - Celebrity Cruises

Billy's Take

This seems a great option for guests, and will certainly be a welcome relief for those just a point or two away from a major increase in Captain's Club tiers, allowing them to take advantage of additional perks on their next cruise.  As you can see, completing this survey takes just a minute or two, and earns you 20 Power Up Points, which are worth two Captain's Club Points.  To put that in perspective, guests earn two Captain's Club Points per night when staying in inside or ocean view staterooms.

I've not made any secret about my opinion that most people seem to overvalue cruise line loyalty programs , making purchase and vacation decisions based on them - but we are happy to use the perks we do earn, and if we can earn some without paying a dime or getting up from the couch, then great!

What we don't know is what other opportunities there will be to earn Power Up Points.  Perhaps more curiously - why a separate point system?  Why not simply say you're offering two Captain's Club Points for a survey?  Perhaps something else is in the works here (with lower valuations for example) or maybe they just felt they needed a new branded term.  I guess they could survey guests about the branding, I know I'd offer my opinion for a couple points.

Celebrity Cruises has a new way to earn loyalty points: Is it worth it?

Andrea M. Rotondo

Celebrity Cruises recently launched a new program, Power Up Points, to help cruisers stay engaged with the line and earn Captain's Club loyalty points -- even when we're not sailing . It's a smart marketing strategy but will cruisers earn a meaningful number of points and potentially jump to a new tier in the line's Captain's Club frequent cruiser loyalty program? Let's dig into the details to find out.

For more cruise tips and advice delivered to your inbox, sign up for the biweekly TPG Cruise newsletter .

A quick Captain's Club primer

Before we talk about Power Up Points, let's do a quick review of Celebrity's Captain's Club cruise loyalty program. If you've cruised with Celebrity before, you're already a CC member. You can also join the Preview level -- even if you've never sailed with the line. The more you sail, the more Captain's Club points you'll earn. You can leapfrog through the program's tiers, which include Preview, Classic, Select, Elite, Elite Plus and Zenith.

  • Preview -- 0 points
  • Classic -- 2–149 points
  • Select -- 150–299 points
  • Elite -- 300–749 points
  • Elite Plus -- 750–2,999
  • Zenith -- 3,000+ points

Each level offers different perks, ranging from discounts on or free onboard services like internet or laundry. Stateroom upgrades, invitations to cocktail parties and priority embarkation are other benefits. When you reach the Zenith tier, you get a free seven-night Caribbean or Bermuda cruise in a veranda stateroom.

Related: How to book a cruise using points and miles

You earn points based on the stateroom category you book, the length of the cruise and any Cruisetours or Celebrity Explorations you purchase. For example, earn 2 points per night for inside and ocean-view rooms, 3 points for verandas and infinite verandas, 5 points for Concierge and AquaClass, 8 points for Sky Suites and 12–18 points based on name suites.

Power Up Points and how to earn them

The new Power Up Points program works in tandem with the CC points you earn by cruising with Celebrity. You can earn Power Up Points that translate into Captain's Club points by taking certain actions, such as filling out an online survey, posting on social media about Celebrity Cruises or making a new booking.

You must be signed up to receive emails from Celebrity, and whenever there is an "earning" opportunity, you'll get an email about it. Act fast since -- so far -- all of the Power Up Points-earning options have been very limited-time offers.

Celebrity Cruises Power Up Points

Posting to social media sites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter is probably the easiest activity that generates points. However, be aware that the time horizon to earn points is very short. Watch your email for instructions and then act on them immediately. The opportunity to earn points with the hashtag #SailingwithCelebrity was short-lived.

Here's what the earning opportunities looked like during the program's first month in action:

  • Week 1: 20 Power Up Points (2 CC points) for responding to a survey
  • Week 2: 20 Power Up Points (2 CC points) for posting on social media with a #SailingwithCelebrity hashtag
  • Week 3: 10 Power Up Points (1 CC points) for telling the cruise line if you prefer a la carte pricing or packages

Celebrity Cruises Power Up Points program

  • Week 4: 100 Power Up Points (10 CC points) if you make a new cruise booking in The Retreat (suite area) by July 12

How much are points worth?

Every 10 Power Up Points you earn translates into 1 Captain's Club point.

Bottom line

As you can see, you're not going to earn a million points via Celebrity's Power Up Points promotion. But, it may be worth it to monitor the program and see what other tasks Celebrity adds to the list of those that generate points that can convert to Captain's Club tier points. If you're just a few points shy of graduating to Celebrity's next elite status tier, the Power Up Points program may help push you over the edge.

Celebrity Cruises earns high marks from cruisers and experts alike, thanks to its upscale design and innovative cuisine. Celebrity's fleet departs from U.S. cities like Honolulu , Miami , Boston and Seattle . While you can sail on a smaller vessel like Celebrity Xpedition, which transports only 48 passengers, you can also cruise on a larger ship like Celebrity Beyond , which can host up to 3,260 guests.

Regardless of the ship you select, you can expect a high level of customer service, with each ship carrying approximately one crew member for every two passengers. Celebrity's ships ply waters all around the globe, with sailings making stops in Asia, Europe and the Caribbean, among other popular destinations. Voyages span anywhere from three to 18 nights, and excursions vary by cruise duration and itinerary.

No matter which itinerary you choose, you'll find a full docket of onboard activities, including wine workshops and glassblowing classes, as well as relaxing pursuits like spa treatments. When you work up an appetite, check out the fleet's variety of dining options, ranging from the Main Restaurant to several specialty venues.

U.S. News Insider Tip: Download the Celebrity Cruises app a few weeks before your cruise to take full advantage of features like scanning your passport and choosing an arrival time. On the ship, you can use the app to start your guest safety briefing, chat with loved ones onboard, reserve dining and excursions, track your onboard spending and organize your calendar of day-to-day activities. On Edge Series ships, you can even use the app to control the TV, lighting, temperature and window shades in your stateroom. – Skye Sherman, Contributor

Before You Book

  • Full payment must be made 75 days prior to departure for most voyages. Special sailings require final payment 105 days in advance of your scheduled sail date.
  • Celebrity Cruises' cancellation policy varies by itinerary, duration and whether you choose to purchase a CruiseCare benefits package. Cancellation policies for your voyage can be found on the cruise line's  FAQ page .
  • Children younger than 1 are not allowed to sail on Celebrity Cruises' trans-Atlantic, trans-Pacific or select South American sailings, or voyages that require three or more consecutive days at sea. For all other cruise itineraries, Celebrity requires passengers to be at least 6 months old.
  • You must be 21 years old to sail unaccompanied on voyages originating in North America and 18 years old for cruises departing from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand (with some exceptions).
  • Passengers in need of special medical equipment or extra assistance should call Celebrity's Access Department at 954-628-9708 or email [email protected] before their scheduled departure date.

Before You Board

  • Travelers must have a passport that is valid for at least six months after the completion of their cruise (or three months for cruises with ports in the European Union). If you are on a voyage that begins and ends at the same port in the U.S., you will only need a government-issued photo ID or a birth certificate. Consult Celebrity's  FAQ page  to determine if (based on your nationality and travel plans) you need to acquire a visa before sailing.
  • Along with your passport, remember to bring necessary health documentation, like an inoculation certificate. Vaccination requirements vary by destination. Celebrity advises passengers to consult the  website .
  • To expedite the process, you can check-in online up to three days prior to departure. In-person check-in is required at least two hours before your scheduled sail time. You must board the ship at least one hour before your cruise departs.
  • Celebrity recommends booking port excursions and dinner reservations through your Celebrity account before your cruise begins. Travelers can also book dinner reservations and shore excursions once they board the ship. To book dinner reservations during your cruise, call or visit the restaurant's maitre d'. Additionally, Specialty Dining Packages must be purchased at least two days before your departure date.

Disclaimers about ship ratings: A ship’s Health Rating is based on vessel inspection scores published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If a ship did not receive a CDC score within 22 months prior to the calculation of its Overall Rating, its Health Rating appears as N/A; in such a case, the ship’s Overall Rating is calculated using the average Health Rating of all CDC-rated ships within the cruise line. All ship Traveler Ratings are based on ratings provided under license by Cruiseline.com.

I've been on at least 4 cruises since covid cruise restart.

My latest one was last week.

Is there an easy fix?

Don't want to waste time being on hold with Celebrity.

They are usually in my email within 12 hours of getting off the ship and the link to the survey expires in 7 days.

That has been my experience also, jelayne.  Sometimes we have received 2 emailed surveys on a cruise.  (DH says they send 2 likely because I try to write a novel in the 2 boxes one is allowed to make "additional comments". 🙂

We just completed a B2B on the Silhouette (2/23/23).  We did not receive a survey on either cruise until I searched my husband's junk email.  I have no idea why they were there as all correspondence and the multiple emails from Celebrity go to our shared email account.   So check your junk box.

Jim_Iain

I've been on a number of cruises and always get the Survey right about the time they Zero out the ship (about 9:30 on turn around day).

Would check your profile to make sure you have the correct email address.    Also check to make sure you have opted in for marketing promotions.

Finally check you Spam folder as mine sometimes get filtered out.

In most e-mail clients you can white list Celebrity.com to prevent them going to Spam.

I get all sorts of e-mails for promotions but I have not gotten a survey since the restart either. I asked at GS a couple of cruises ago, and they had no suggestion for how to get these. I may try the engagement center.

We received the post-cruise survey/evaluation around the same time Celebrity sent us the "final invoice" or "final guest statement" for our cruise.

As I recall, this was the same day we disembarked the ship in Southampton, but I might be messing up the time difference. Regardless, it was pretty quick!

Same here.   Recently on B2B's I've received both the final invoice and survey when they zeroed out the ship while we were being processed for b2B
