After replacing my Continental 255/45 r20 105V tires with the Mich Lat 245/60 105v ones on my 2022 Santa Fe Calligraphy, I was expecting a smoother ride. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case; even after having them balanced five times – including one Road Force balance- and driving at 70mph, there’s still road feel as well as excessive noise present in this experience.

With only 400 miles on its odometer, it shouldn’t be causing these issues! After 2500 miles of ownership underwhelming performance from Michelin tires – which have been an integral part of all cars owned since 1965 by me- has left me unhappy. Disappointingly enough despite taking several measures to improve smoothness such proved fruitless for my 2025 Sante Fe Calllgraphy journey !

The Michelon 245 / 60R105 V ,newly installed seemed less than satisfactory : upon reaching high speeds(70 mph) noisy roads were experienced instead alongwith surprises jolts . What are the features of the Michelin Latitude Tour?

According to Michelin, the Latitude Tour is a crossover/SUV touring tire designed for a quiet ride, outstanding fuel efficiency, long treadlife, and impressive on-road comfort and handling. To be honest, though, you will read almost the same things on the websites on other manufacturers, even those that produce cheaper alternatives.

Michelin continues to praise the wet traction of the tire – the Latitude Tour stops 5% shorter in rainy conditions than the predecessor. That’s not a lot but bear in mind that the French company almost always provides the best results in wet conditions.

To achieve these things, Michelin utilized its tried-and-true Total Performance technology. The French company claims that it focuses on the entire life of the tire. “All our tires have performance made to LAST, delivering, by design, an exceptional level of long-lasting performance,” the company states on its website.

Moreover, the Michelin Total Performance technology means that the engineers try to improve things in one area, without sacrificing performance in other areas.

Like in most premium tires, Michelin utilized a silica-based tread compound. The rubber is molded into a symmetric tread pattern, and both the tread compound and design are optimized for longevity and durability. Michelin calls that MaxTouch Construction, and what it means is that the tire should perform well throughout its entire lifetime.

The tread pattern itself consists of stable shoulder blocks and a continuous center rib for increased responsiveness and highway stability. Furthermore, the Latitude Tour features four wide circumferential grooves, which channel water through multiple sipes in the outboard shoulders for increased hydroplaning resistance. The sipes also help to create more biting edges for better snow traction.

Meanwhile, the Michelin Comfort Control Technology ensures that the tire provides the passengers with a comfortable and quiet traveling experience. More accurately, the technology features a computer-optimized design and precision manufacturing to reduce the vibrations entering the cabin, and mitigate road noise.

And, while it’s recommended to replace the tire after it reaches that point, I suggest doing that earlier, especially if you want to retain snow traction and braking.

Fortunately, the Michelin Latitude Tour won’t wear down very fast. Owners report good treadlife, and Michelin covers those claims with a 65,000-mile treadwear warranty on all sizes.

That said, the Latitude Tour is also the most expensive tire in its category. And, for the price, you can get even better treadlife in the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza Plus (an 80,000-mile treadwear warranty), and Continental CrossContact LX25 (a 70,000-mile treadwear warranty).

How does it behave on a dry tarmac?

Overall, the Latitude Tour performs very well on dry roads. The tire feels responsive enough for accurate positioning of your vehicle in the corners. Also, the directional stability is top-notch, even at highway speeds.

In terms of grip levels, the Michelin Latitude Tour is in the upper echelon of the class. If you want it more honestly, the cornering grip is very good, but I expected more for the price. It’s the same with traction and braking, which are fine, but far from exceptional.

These are things that you probably won’t be able to test on public roads. The differences between the best tires and the Latitude Tour are nearly imperceptible in daily driving.

How is it over wet and slippery roads?

The Latitude Tour is one of the better touring tires for driving on rainy days. The hydroplaning resistance of the tire is top-notch, and the traction levels are excellent.

Moreover, the tire achieves some of the shortest braking distances in the category, both in light and heavy rain. And, thanks to the Total Performance package, the Latitude Tour retains the safe traction after it wears down.

With that being said, how is it on snowy roads?

Michelin employed zig-zag sipes on the inner and outer tread blocks of the tire, which in theory should give the Latitude Tour excellent snow traction.

However, in the real world, the tire is far from usable in those conditions. You can get some traction on snow, but other premium competitors fare much better. It’s the same with braking – the distances are longer than the best in the category.

Is it suitable for off-road driving?

The Latitude Tour is a touring tire, which means that it’s designed mostly for driving on paved roads. Sure, you can utilize the tire over hardpacked surfaces, but don’t expect high levels of grip. Moreover, the Latitude Tour doesn’t have a tough casing that will protect it from cuts and punctures.

Is it comfortable and refined?

Not that we expected anything less from a Michelin product, but the Latitude Tour is supremely quiet and comfortable. The ride quality is particularly impressive – the tire easily works out smaller and larger imperfections on the road. Also, road noise is minimal, even at highway speeds.

For those reasons, I would recommend the Michelin Latitude Tour only if you get a good deal. Otherwise, you can save over $100 on some sizes if you opt for products from the main competitors.

The Latitude Tour HP is a visible reminder of this fact, as this tire comes with three exclusive technologies. Apart from populating its specs’ list, all three of them help take this model’s performance to the next level.

Comfort Contact Technology : The name of this technology betrays what its major function is. It makes sure that the tire is in constant contact with the road at all times, thereby reducing the vibrations that passengers might feel in the vehicle’s cabin.
Filament At Zero Degrees Technology : To reinforce the tire’s twin steel belts, the FAZ technology precisely places individual, nylon filaments in specific portions in the tread area at a zero degree angle. This unique arrangement helps the tire retain its original shape for long and enhances steering precision.

Michelin Latitude Tour HP Review: Test Drive

Given the fact that it’s such a high-speed tire, we did have our doubts about the performance of this model on our lowly family sedan. To be specific, we were concerned that since it caters to the expensive segment of market, this tire might not do well for normal folks who don’t believe in the ‘paddle-to-the-metal’ maxim. Read on to find out whether or not it proved our doubts true.

Treadwear and Durability

First things first, Michelin offers four treadwear warranties on specific sizes of the Tour HP. Let’s look at the warranty periods before discussing the treadwear properties.

Models with H, V and W speed ratings : 55,000 miles warranty
Models with W speed rating : 45,000 miles warranty
Models with H speed rating : 30,000 and 60,000 miles warranty

So what do these warranty periods tell us? Models that are provided with lower speed (H) rating last at least 15,000 miles before than those which come with the highest (W) rating. In plain English, if you drive slowly, the tire will last longer.

That’s exactly what we found while we took the tire on a test drive. While users who have used W-rated tires complain that they wear down quickly, our H-rated tire showed no such signs whatsoever.

Of course, there are other factors like your driving style which impact a tire’s wear, but our impression was that if you don’t own an exotic vehicle, choosing the H-rated version of the Latitude HP will allow you to keep on using the same pair for a longer period.

Dry Performance

When checking the dry performance of all-season tires’, we always have a two-point checklist at hand. It monitors the tire’s performance based on high-speed stability and traction on dry surfaces. Thankfully, the Latitude Tour HP ticked both these boxes with aplomb.

Thanks to the wide groove pattern of its tread pattern, this tire ensures excellent steering responsiveness and precision at high speeds. As a result, apart from getting a super road feel, you always feel that you’re in control, regardless of how high the reading on the speedometer might be.

As for maintaining its traction on dry surfaces, that’s where the Comfort Contact Technology makes its presence count. It effectively distributes the stress along the tread pattern to make sure that the tire is in contact with the road at all times, thereby providing a superior grip.

Wet Performance

Most all-season tires face a double whammy when you take them on a road that has only recently received showers. On one end, they have to provide optimum traction to prevent any slippage. On the other, their grooves have to effectively channel water to keep the danger of hydroplaning at bay.

The Latitude Tour HP performs both these seemingly contradictory jobs with ease. While we weren’t aware of them at first, a post-drive inspection of the features list revealed that it was its 2D Active Sipes that were responsible for improving these tires’ grip on wet roads.

Even when you’re driving in heavy rain, the circumferential tread grooves of this model would never let water disconnect the tire’s connection with the road surface. They do that by constantly eliminating water from beneath the tire’s tread, enhancing the HP’s hydroplaning resistance.

Comfort and Noise

Not long ago, one of our readers asked us to name one feature which is common among all Michelin tires. Our answer? High comfort and low noise. That’s because we knew that all of its models come with two specific features which make your ride noise- and vibrations-free.

The first among those features is the Comfort Contact Technology. It reduces the vibrations the tire will pick up from the road and transmit to the cabin by maintaining constant contact with the road. As a result, those traveling won’t have to contend with road vibrations.

We believe in testing it ourselves to get a field performance of the tire away from what the manufacturer promises, which sometimes may be misleading. For my test, my friends’ Audi Q5 was available for the job.

The car had a different set of tires that had outlived their usefulness, and the owner of the Audi wanted them changed.

So, we fixed the car with a set of four Michelin Latitude Tour tire , and I was ready for the test, and below my experience.

Driving through the dry road was pleasant on four Michelin Latitude Tour tires. It is easy to give credit to the newness of the tires, but that would be inconsiderate of the whole technology behind this amazing tire. The grip was at the top of any tire on the same category.

The braking was almost instant, and the cornering experience was epic. The Audi was very stable and safe to drive even at higher speeds.

While driving back to the city after my dry road test, the clouds burst, letting torrential showers on the road. This was a perfect chance to kill two birds with one stone. The rains were heavy enough that the running water covered most parts of the way.

Despite this, the Audi cruised with little resistance. It maintained its grip and stability at 80 Mph. Of course, I wasn’t mad to try to confirm if the vehicle maintained the grip at double the speed. I still need my whole self for more such reviews.

By the time I let my friend test his car on Michelin Latitude Tour tires, I had not been lucky to test it on snow. On this, I had to rely on the dealer’s opinion. According to him, though the tires are not the best for the snow.

However, if one day you wake to a light snow carpet on the highway, he says you can still make it to your destination, but you will struggle a lot if the snow is heavy.

Driving is work by itself. It is a mental activity that deserves your road consciousness. They say when you are on the road, handle the car as if everyone else on the vehicles you meet is mad.

A comfortable car will make sure you concentrate on this important task, and that takes a good tire. I found Michelin Latitude Tour tires very comfortable for my endorsement.

Besides the tires being comfortable to drive on, they were exceptionally quiet on the road. Save for the noise generated by other passing vehicles; I could hear none from the Audi. The vibrations and the road noise were subdued.

As I had earlier on said, the tires were brand new. I only did 200 miles with the new tires to be able to rate them on this feature. However, by the time I was handing the keys of the Audi over, the tires still looked fresh and could be resold at packaging price without raising suspicion.

The dealer says the tires have a 65,000 miles Treadlife warranty which is incredible, isn’t it? He adds that it can be more depending on how you handle the tire.

*Mileage Warranty Exceptions

Split fitments – If your vehicle has tires of different sizes on the front versus the rear axles, your tires cannot be rotated as recommended. Therefore, the mileage warranty on each rear tire will cover half the number of miles as the standard mileage warranty for that particular tire line. ZP (Zero Pressure) tires – The maximum mileage warranty for ZP tires is 30,000 miles.
