CORONA PANDEMIC RELATED CLAUSE

Incase of the passenger's inability to travel due to the passenger / co-passenger testing positive for Corona or being required to undergo quarantine due to the testing positive of a non-traveling family member, then the passenger can reschedule to another cruise without any rescheduling charges (Subject to any fare difference will be payable and customer must reschedule the voyage 48 hours prior the departure). Customers must provide an authenticated medical certificate/letter to avail this benefit.

100% Refund will be made if Cordelia Management cancels any sailings.

Cordelia Resonating with Big Market

“Following a significant drydock in Dubai this June, the Empress will reposition to homeport in Chennai,” said Jurgen Bailom, president, Cordelia Cruises.

“This strategic relocation is instrumental in ensuring uninterrupted cruise operations during the monsoon season and reinforces India’s capacity to host cruises year-round. We have thoughtfully planned a mix of international and domestic sailings departing from Chennai,” he added, as most cruises are short sailings, with options starting at two nights.

Other summer turn ports include Mumbai and Kochi.

Longer itineraries include a week-long sailing open-jaw from Mumbai to Chennai with calls into Kochi, Colombo and Trincomalee.

A noteworthy enhancement to the company’s deployment has been the addition of Puducherry as a new port of call, Bailom said.

“Lakshadweep has emerged as a hot destination for Cordelia Cruises, driven by the heightened interest following Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit,” Bailom continued.

“The allure of this pristine location resonates with the Indian audience, and we’ve observed a surge in eagerness to explore it.

“We take care of the permits, making Cordelia the easiest and most convenient means for our guests to experience the beauty of Lakshadweep,” he continued.

“Another destination that has always been extremely popular among the Indian audience, Goa, has always been the number one choice while selecting a cruise.”

At press time, the company was deployed through June 2025, with June featuring a series of sailings ranging from two to five nights, including two-night sampler cruises both from Mumbai to Goa and roundtrip Mumbai.

Itineraries are planned 12 to 18 months in advance, Bailom explained.

“This forward-focused approach ensures not only the availability of desirable options but also to secure berth spaces for docking,” he said.

“While maintaining this planning horizon, we remain adaptable to dynamic changes within the itinerary to meet internal requirements as needed.”

The one-ship company’s primary considerations include market demand, and ensuring itineraries align with the evolving preferences of its customers.

'Lakshadweep tourism surged, more enquiries after PM Modi's visit': Official

L akshadweep has witnessed an influx of tourists ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the island, tourism officer Imthias Mohammed told news agency ANI. Further, the island region is receiving inquiries both from the national tourism arena and the international tourism market, he said. 

"Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) is an influential leader in the country. He visited the Lakshadweep Islands in December 2023. The kind of impact he has had during his visit is huge," the tourism officer said, when asked about the impact of PM Modi's visit.

"Post his visit, we have been receiving a lot of inquiries. People are very curious to know more about the tourism packages that Lakshadweep tourism offers. We are receiving huge inquiries from the national as well as the international arena," he said. 

"We have been streamlining various tourism activities in the islands. Scuba diving and water sports are the major revenue-generating segments of Lakshadweep tourism," the tourism officer said.

"We have been encouraging local entrepreneurs to establish their own tourist homes to promote educated youth to find their own living in the tourism sector. We are also actively promoting more cruise ship companies and have ambitious plans for promoting yachting tourism," he said. 

Talking about future initiatives of the tourism department, he said, "Lakshadweep seeks to promote more cruise ship companies."

About the connectivity issue with mainland India, as few airlines operate in Lakshadweep, he hopes that when air connectivity is streamlined, it will boost the influx of tourists.

"NITI Ayog has identified three islands of Lakshadweep to establish eco-tourism projects. The projects consist of beach villas and lagoon villas," the officer said on the Indian government's efforts to increase tourism in Lakshadweep. 

Prime Minister Modi visited Lakshadweep in January this year and shared his pictures of the islands on X. 

He also interacted with locals, enjoyed magnificent views from the pristine coastline and went snorkelling.

The batting for Lakshadweep as a tourist destination is in line with the Prime Minister's pitch for choosing Indian destinations for weddings and tourism. 

In November last year, he questioned the trend of organising weddings abroad as noticed among various "big families" and urged such events to take place within the country as part of 'Wed in India'.
