Nick Mulvey Announces 2023 ‘New Mythology’ Tour

ercury Prize nominated artist Nick Mulvey today announces a 15 date headline tour of the UK and Europe, taking in Amsterdam’s Melkwig on 21st February, London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on 23rd March and finishing in Brighton on Friday the 24th.  The tour comes after the release of Mulvey’s third album ‘A New Mythology’earlier this year, which Sunday Times Culture gave 4 stars, describing it as ‘a record of candour and courage’.

Recorded with renowned  producer Renaud Letang (Manu Chao, Feist, Connan Mockasin) at Studio Ferber, the album is Mulvey’s first in 5 years. To arrive at ‘New Mythology’, Nick Mulvey has come a long way – both musically and philosophically.  A musician, composer and producer, Nick has amassed a staggering 587 million streams globally, an equivalent of half a million albums sold. 

The tour is the first chance for fans around the UK to hear Mulvey playing ‘New Mythology’ live.

NICK MULVEY ANNOUNCES INTIMATE SOLO UK TOUR DETAILS.

Nick Mulvey is very pleased to follow his recent triumphant headline UK tour with details of another for later this year.

Having sold out London’s Royal Albert Hall earlier this year performing as a trio, Nick will head out solo in September on an initial 18-date run at much more intimate spaces across the UK and Ireland, including towns that Nick has never previously performed at. These shows bring the evolution of Nick’s touring of his second album, Wake Up Now, on a full circle journey from five-piece, to trio, and now right back to just Nick and his guitar.

The tour commences in Belfast on the 19 th  September, before hitting Dublin and Cork. Nick then crosses the Irish Sea, arriving in Cambridge (a hometown show), and playing across the country right through to Nottingham on the 14 th  October. The dates include a night at London’s newly refurbished Hackney Arts Centre on the 26 th  September. The run also takes in the likes of Cork, Kendal, Pocklington and Hebden Bridge.

Ahead of the new tour, Nick takes in a series of European festivals and a handful of US dates throughout the Summer, including slots at Lollapalooza in Chicago and Outside Lands in San Francisco.

Membre fondateur du Portico Quartet, collectif de jazz primé, Nick Mulvey décide de voler de ses propres ailes en 2011 et troque ses percussions pour une guitare. Après avoir sorti une poignée d’EPs et fait la première partie de Lianne La Havas, Rodrigo y Gabriela et Laura Marling notamment, le Britannique sort son premier album en 2014. Nick Mulvey y livre une collection hybride et cohérente de 12 titres mélangeant ses influences folk (Nick Drake, Paul Simon and John Martyn) à des rythmiques africaines et caribéennes découvertes lors de ses études en ethnomusicologie et ses nombreux voyages à travers le monde. L’album, qui compte à ce jour 290 millions de streams sur Spotify, vaut à Nick Mulvey une nomination au Mercury Prize et une place dans le top 10 des charts britanniques. Nick Mulvey, founder of award-winning jazz collective Portico Quartet, decided to spread his wings in 2011 and traded in his percussion for a guitar. After releasing a handful of EPs and opening for the likes of Lianne La Havas, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Laura Marling, the Brit released his first full album in 2014. ‘First Mind’ was a hybrid yet cohesive collection of 12 tracks in which he mixed his folk influences (Nick Drake, Paul Simon and John Martyn) with African and Caribbean rhythms discovered during his studies in ethnomusicology and his numerous travels throughout the world. The album, which has 290 million Spotify streams to date, earned Nick Mulvey a Mercury Prize nomination and a top 10 spot in the UK charts. Nick Mulvey promptly became a musician to follow closely. With now three albums to his name, Nick Mulvey continues to push the boundaries between traditional and experimental music, between acoustic and electronic sounds. After releasing a deluxe version of ‘First Mind’, including a cover of Drake’s « Hold On We’re Going Home », Nick Mulvey is continuing the celebrations and heading out on tour. Nick Mulvey has released a stunning new track, “A Prayer of my Own,” the second single to be revealed from his forthcoming third album New Mythology , which is set for release on June 10 via Verve Forecast. Alongside the release, Mulvey has announced three live shows in New York City, Los Angeles, and Toronto this July.

The track, written during the first wave of the pandemic, was recorded in Paris with renowned producer Renaud Letang (Manu Chao, Feist, Connan Mockasin), and explores the process of grief and redemption, specifically that real change is only possible via the process of grief. It invites the listener to think and feel compassionately about the future of our planet and society, as Mulvey sings “I do it for my own, my little boy, my little girl. And we do it for our home, if we do it for the world.” Tender and honest, both in its lyricism and musicality, “A Prayer of My Own” encapsulates the themes of the album and Mulvey’s continuously evolving musical and philosophical journey.

To arrive at this album, Nick Mulvey has come a long way – both musically and philosophically. A musician, composer and producer, Nick’s work pushes boundaries in songwriting and sound. A founding member of the award-winning British collective Portico Quartet, he left in 2011 to concentrate on his own material. Once solo, he released his Mercury Prize nominated debut album First Mind in 2014, and 2017’s celebrated Wake Up Now .

While these are Mulvey’s songs, he’s keen to acknowledge collaborators: the friends and family, teachers past and present who’ve helped him arrive at this point. “I literally couldn’t do this from my limited perspective,” he acknowledges. He reached out to mentors—like the Polynesian ambassador and elder Aunty Ivy—to check the cultural sensitivity and accuracy of his words. “I want to provide refuge for listeners,” he says, mulling his intention for New Mythology . “Refuge in these times. The songs are not more distraction and are not spreading more fear or panic—they are about being deeply in this time. I hope the album supports people and I hope it inspires and stimulates new ideas, insights, and ambitions. I hope it also generates a sense of the sacred within its audience.”
