This was probably my favorite show of the year. Ozma was just as awesome as always. The band was full of energy and seemed happy to be playing. The crowd was super energized as well. It was really a treat to hear all of the old songs. And then when Matt Sharp came out to perform a couple of Rentals songs (including Friends of P), it was like I was transported back to a very fun time in my life. The Troubadour was also the best venue for the show. Itâs intimate and always a good time.

About Ozma - French Explosive Jazz

OZMA brings its âplayfulâ jazz to the U.S. for the first time
The genre-bending jazz quintet is celebrating its 20th anniversary with shows in d.c. and new york city.
OZMA is celebrating 20 years together. Founded in 2001 in Strasbourg, France, the genre-bending jazz quintet has built a major international profile, recording eight albums and touring more than 40 countries. Somehow, though, the United States â the country that created jazz â has never been one of those countries.
âIt wasnât by choice,â says StĂ©phane ScharlĂ©, drummer and founding member of OZMA, from his home in Paris. âWhere we go is mainly a function of the people we encounter who make things possible. I guess for the U.S., it just hadnât happened yet.â
Now it has. The anniversary festivities â delayed due to covid â include a performance in New York City and two in Washington, Oct. 25 and 26, both at the Embassy of France in Georgetown. The first evening features OZMA playing live musical accompaniment to a silent film (Buster Keatonâs 1923 âThree Agesâ); the second will spotlight the bandâs most recent recording , 2020âs âHyperlapse.â
âItâs a milestone,â ScharlĂ© says. âFrance and the U.S.A. have a long relationship regarding jazz â so much of the French tradition has been inspired by America. So itâs quite amazing for us to be there.â
Perhaps itâs just as well that OZMA waited so long to reach such an obvious destination. The quintetâs artistry is entirely based on taking jazz to unexpected places.
Indeed, ScharlĂ©âs first musical love was heavy metal. He was playing drums in a metal band when in late 2001 he was asked to accompany a guitarist, Adrien Dennefeld, for the latterâs audition at the Strasbourg Conservatory. Bassist Edouard SĂ©ro-Guillaume rounded out the audition combo, and when ScharlĂ© himself began at the conservatory shortly afterward, the three found themselves together in the jazz department. They decided to keep the trio going.
They expanded to a quintet in 2004, adding two other jazz students, trombonist Guillaume Nuss and saxophonist David Florsch. (In the years since, Dennefeld and Florsch have left the band, replaced by Tam de Villiers and Julien Soro, respectively.)
But if jazz was the through-line, OZMA (named for an early extraterrestrial search project) distinguished itself by having each member bring in other musical interests. While ScharlĂ© was the acknowledged metalhead, he says, âthe bassist, Edouard, was really into Caribbean music, ska and that kind of stuff. Guillaume is really more of a funk guy. We all brought our own things and fed it together into our music.â They have eschewed jazz standards or covers, preferring to channel their eclectic influences into original compositions.
The mix has led some journalists and critics to describe OZMA as âjazz fusionâ: the merger of jazz, rock, funk and world music that Miles Davis pioneered in the 1970s. ScharlĂ© agrees â to a point.
âIf fusion means we mix in different influences and music styles, then I would say yes, of course,â he says. âBut I donât know what band today would not be able to be called fusion in some way. We are talking about the first generations with the internet, with streaming, with access to all the musics worldwide. That makes it quite logical for bands like us to mix many influences and not be stuck to only one genre.â
The word he prefers is âplayful.â Itâs a multilayered word, encompassing the fact that the members are playing (and inter playing) instruments, as well as playing with sounds and concepts.
Though the band was founded as a collective, ScharlĂ© has increasingly taken a leadership role in recent years. âHyperlapseâ found him for the first time composing an entire OZMA album â 10 tracks â by himself.
Heâs also prodded them toward experimenting with electronics, which have intrigued him for a long time. His bandmates have accepted this with varying degrees of enthusiasm.
Saxophonist Soro, for one, was reluctant about the suggestion that he double on keyboards. âI said, âPick up the piano, bring keyboards onstage with us, and weâll have fun.â Julien wasnât fond of that in the beginning. But we pushed it a bit, and now heâs very happy.â
Nuss, on the other hand, âgot geeky about it. He was really working on finding effects on trombone using pedals, like a guitar.â
This musical phase will dominate the bandâs D.C. performances. Theyâll also present a new composition of ScharlĂ©âs, âElevationâ (originally written for the band to play with the six-piece contemporary music ensemble Percussions de Strasbourg).
The next phase, however, isnât far off. OZMA is scheduled to record a new album next year; ScharlĂ© has already started writing for it. âI donât know yet if itâs going to go further in this electronic sound or back to something acoustic,â he muses. âBut Iâm also thinking of other things. Having other people outside of the band write songs for us â saying, âThis is my band, this is what we did for 20 years, now what would you do with it?â Or for the first time to make a cover, possibly a rock song adapted and arranged for OZMA.â
With so many ideas in the tank, one can only hope itâs not another 20 years before OZMA returns to American shores.
Oct. 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. at La Maison Française, Embassy of France, 4101 Reservoir Rd. NW. franceintheus.org . $20-$30.

The Rise And Revival Of Ozma, A 'Secretly Huge' Indie Rock Band
It's a typical Saturday night in 2001. You're crammed into Chain Reaction, a windowless, all-ages club in a failing shopping center in northwest Anaheim. You push through the sea of sweaty, writhing bodies, many of them wearing their favorite Texas Is The Reason and Reggie and the Full Effect t-shirts. You avoid thrown elbows and studded belts as you make your way to the stage, finally emerging in the front row as the opening keyboard notes of Battlescars hit your eardrums. Bodies jump. The crowd lets out a collective roar. Leading the charge is Ozma , a Pasadena quintet that produces a particularly triumphant and baroque strain of power pop. You're in luck. Tonight, you're catching the band on the cusp of its rise, when the promise of stardom and mainstream success is still before them.
Three years after this concert, Ozma will disband. Their talent and steadfastness will take them to the height of local success but they'll never quite make the leap from local heroes to indie rock gods.
Every scene in every city in every era has at least one band like Ozma. A group that springs up organically, grows quickly and pushes at the constraints of its local music scene. It's the kind of band everyone roots for, one they expect to go big. You'll never hear about most of these bands. Outside a cadre of devoted fans, no one will.
The Beginning
In 1995, Ryen Slegr and Patrick Edwards were Pasadena high schoolers with a fairly typical passion for rocking out. They spent their afternoons at each other's houses, noodling around and playing their original compositions, Slegr on guitar and Edwards on drums. During their sophomore year, they teamed up with fellow La Salle College Prep student Jose Galvez who wanted so badly to be in a band, he had lied about his guitar skills and spent the week before his first practice trying to teach himself how to play.
About a year and a half later, through an AOL profile search, they found Daniel Brummel, a student at the Los Angeles County School for the Arts . Standing 6'2" and with shoulder-length pink hair, Brummel impressed the trio with his prowess on bass. The foursome began practicing every Friday afternoon and on weekends in a loft space above Edwards' parents' garage. Later that year, they added keyboardist Katherine Kieckhefer, who was replaced by Star Wick in 1998. Wick had stumbled on the band at the Crystal Ballroom in Whittier, at the first rock show she attended.
In those early years, the group mostly covered their favorite bands â Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis, Weezer. Performing at backyard parties and talent shows, they built a small army of homegrown fans. Wick, who has classical music training in both piano and flute, says, "It's a different skill to read music versus learning to improvise."
"Three years in a row, we won the talent show at [La Salle]," Galvez says. "Everyone knew each other. Everyone was going to No Future [a Pasadena coffee shop] to see us play cuz there was nothing else to do."
Using a 4-track cassette recorder, they turned their practice space into a recording studio and laid down eight tracks. Before they could release their masterpiece (as a cassette, no less), they needed a name. They found it on a bookshelf in the Oz book series â The Wonderful Wizard of Oz being the most famous â written by L. Frank Baum in the early 1900s.
"It was just a word that seemed interesting, mystical, kind of mysterious, feminine and all-encompassing," Brummel says.
In 1996 and 1997, Ozma released two self-produced cassette demos, Cuatro and Ocho . They later compiled a few songs from both cassettes along with and some live material into the demo Songs of Inaudible Trucks and Cars .
By 1999, they had all graduated high school. Slegr and Brummel began attending UCLA, Galvez at Cal State Northridge and Wick at Pepperdine. Classes were fine but their real focus was music.
"Some of our friends that we played with were like 'We aren't really going to do this in the future. We're going to get jobs.' I remember Jose and I looked at each other and went, 'Erhhh, that's not the mentality that we want,''' Slegr says.
In 2000, Ozma released their first studio album. Recorded with Bruce Witken at Pop Squad Studios in Hollywood, the 11 tracks on Rock and Roll Part Three feature many of the songs the band had written as teenagers. The songs showcase Ozma's power-pop chops while highlighting their eclectic influences â the classical music of Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, the video game compositions of Koji Kondo, the alt-rock of Weezer.
To understand the band's full range, look no further than the first moments of the first track, "Domino Effect." The cascading keyboard intro paired with a barrage of guitar and bass notes paints a sonic portrait of an 8-bit galaxy. The lyrics are Ozma's teenage symphony to God:
Chances last a finite time In the warm July night time Every care that keeps you from your feet Is care that carries your defeat.
"There was a kind of musical sophistication they wore lightly but you could tell there was this depth of knowledge and harmonic invention," says Matthew Caws, lead vocalist and guitarist of Nada Surf .
Brummel and Galvez had met Caws and his bandmates a few years before, after sending their demo cassette to the band.
For Ozma, the timing couldn't have been better. The internet was becoming A Thing and peer-to-peer music sharing websites (remember Napster?) were all the rage. Early Ozma tracks "Gameover" and "Korobeiniki (Traditional Russian Folk Song)" showed up online, incorrectly labeled as Weezer songs. Weezer fans looking for new music might download Ozma's music and discover a new band.
"It was this sorta strange time when [the band wasn't] really active," says former Weezer bassist Matt Sharp. After the critical and commercial flop of their 1996 album, Pinkerton , Weezer had gone on hiatus and Sharp left the band. "I think that moment left a void for people searching for a similar emotional resonance. [Ozma] benefited from that hunger."
Ozma, for their part, idolized Weezer. "I wouldn't say it was like a cult but it was myopic," Slegr says. "I just remember not listening to other kinds of music for a while, narrowing it down to Weezer and The Rentals for like a year."
Before the second and third wave of emo took shape in the late '90s and early '00s, Ozma occupied a musical niche halfway between post-grunge and geek rock, not that the band cared. "We never once thought about, 'What label or genre do we belong in?" We just wanted to make glorious music," Brummel says.
In an era before social media, Ozma earned its stripes by playing killer live shows and using the word-of-mouth they generated to book more shows and win more converts. They never received a review in Pitchfork or got much press but their success snowballed. By 2000, they started playing with higher profile acts like Nerf Herder and Ridel High at bars like Moguls in Hollywood and Alligator Lounge in Santa Monica.
"There was a scene and there were fans and a lot of crossover," Galvez says, referring to bands such as Phantom Planet and Kara's Flowers, which later became Maroon 5. "Now, we're in a scene that's flourishing and that likes to play this kind of music."
The Big Break
In 2001, Weezer gave Ozma its big break. Galvez still remembers where he was â at home in his kitchen â when he got the call from Rivers Cuomo, asking if they wanted to join the Yahoo! Outloud Tour. Taking the national stage for the first time, Ozma was met by eager audiences and they began adjusting to their life as budding rock stars.
"The fans were pretty into it. We didn't really get heckled. We had just turned 20, 21. None of us really drank. We weren't really a party band. It was our first tour, we didn't want to make any mistakes," Galvez says.
"I think experiencing that earlier in my life it shaped who I am now, being on the road with a bunch of guys. I consider myself to be tough," Wick says.
That same year, Ozma signed to Kung Fu Records , a Seal Beach-based label started by a couple members of the Vandals. In short order, Ozma re-released Rock and Roll Part Three along with their second LP, The Doubble Donkey Disc. The albums went on to sell upwards of 50,000 units each.
The band continued touring through the early 2000s, joining Weezer on a tour of the east coast and parts of Canada. They followed that with a North American club tour with Nada Surf and another popular L.A. act, Rilo Kiley.
"It was that tour, being introduced to Weezer's full audience, being lumped in with the other openers and really accessing their audience... Being well-liked by those crowds I think just kinda put us on the level of indie rock," Brummel says.
Over the next three years, Ozma would tour the United States some 20 times, playing to crowds as large as 18,000 people. Although the band had finally reached the national stage, they couldn't shake the feeling that they were out of place.
"I felt antiquated already and to feel antiquated before you're 23 or 24 is really strange," Slegr says.
Ozma's style was steeped in the progressive rock meets heavy metal ethos of the early '90s but by 2000, guitar rock was moving toward a more lo-fi, post-punk sound. Instead of "introspective diary writing, it was more literary, personal and romantic in a different type of way. There was a pushback against the anthemic melodies," Slegr says.
Ozma had always been imbued in nostalgia, even as teenagers who didn't seem old enough to be wistful for times past. But the songs on Rock and Roll Part Three , written when the band members were only 15 and 16, are tinged with children-of-the-'80s melancholy, especially the album's penultimate track, "Search of 1988."
"1988, take me back to 1987 I'm in search of days When times were good and earth a place in heaven"
"It's a very teenage record so it spoke to teenagers," Brummel says.
That sensibility is all the more amusing since Ozma is now entrenched in the nostalgia industrial complex and benefitting from its insatiable appetite to monetize the past.
Playing the songs from Rock and Roll Part Three these days, the band members are in a strange position. Now in their late 30s and early 40s, they get up on stage to perform as more angsty, less wrinkled, more hopeful versions of themselves.
"Do we remember who we were? How do we feel about it now? Do we still want to be that band? What band are we going to be this time?" Brummel says.
After their second album, Ozma chugged along. In 2003, they released their third record, Spending Time On The Borderline . It gave them the chance to expand their sonic palette and add more instruments, like on the track Utsukushii Shibuya , which features Wick on flute.
Ozma continued performing and touring but the relentless travel was taking its toll. "I think when you put that much time in a van with the same four or five people, your personalities kind of wear on each other," Brummel says. Exhausted and road-weary from nearly back-to-back tours, the band broke up in 2004.
The Revival
Brummel moved to New York and self-released a solo record of his folk material. Slegr and Galvez stuck around Southern California and formed Yes Dear with members of Arlo and Teen Heroes. They self-released a demo and toured around California. Wick took at job working at a Marc Jacobs store on Melrose. "I really didn't miss it that much,'' she says.
In 2007, Ozma reunited with new drummer Kenn Shane and released their fourth full-length, Pasadena . It featured a bunch of guest musicians including Caws and Rachel Haden of That Dog. Despite its critical acclaim, the album sold poorly, nowhere near the numbers of their previous records.
For the next seven years, the band played the occasional gig â both Weezer Cruises, the Make Music Festival in Pasadena, the Glass House in Pomona â while its members settled into adulthood. Galvez started working for an experiential marketing company. Brummel earned a master's degree in music composition from Cal State L.A. and began scoring for film and TV. Slegr built a career in the hospitality industry and produced a record for L.A. band Walk .
In 2014, Ozma returned to the studio to record Boomtown , an album crowd-funded with $20,000 from their fans. The 11 tracks represent the band at its most mature with lyrics that wade into dark territory (suicide, drug use) and a lush sonic landscape. This record would also be the first time Wick would contribute lead vocals to a track ("Nervous"). "I did it because of the encouragement [from the other band members]," Wick says.
Boomtown didn't achieve the sales of Ozma's earlier records but, Brummel says, "I think in terms of the artistry, we were happy with the level of work."
These days, Brummel, is the Chief Academic Officer at the Point Blank Music School , based in Silver Lake, and heads the band Sanglorians . Galvez has released two solo albums in the past decade and put out an EP earlier this year. Slegr continues to write and record his own music as well as creating visual art. Wick works as a dietitian at the V.A. hospital in West L.A.
This week, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Rock and Roll Part Three , Ozma will reunite for a pair of shows at the Troubadour , on December 19 and 20. When the first show was announced back in September, it sold out in 48 hours. The band added a second night, which also sold out.
Ozma never achieved the name recognition or globe-trotting success of some of their contemporaries but "They're better known than you think," Caws says. "[They're] a secretly huge band."
"People love that record we made when we were teenagers for 800 bucks," Galvez says. It is, as the kids these days say, very on brand for a band that was always looking in the rearview mirror, contemplating a lost era that may or may not have existed.
Reflecting on Ozma's ups and downs, Slegr sees the band's two-decade career as less of an explosion and more of a slow burn. "It's weaker and weaker," he says, "but it gets stronger, in a weird way, too."

Beginning in the 1950s as an alternative to rock and roll, early iterations of pop-rock were influenced by doo-wop and rock-and-roll arrangements and styles. Many traditionalists prefer rock and roll to the more slick, commercial production of pop-rock.
Some refer to the music as power pop with a similar sound and lyrical content. Pop-rock music has been very commercially successful using elements of rock music. Many describe it as an upbeat variety of rock music. The term pop comes from the early twentieth century referring to popular music. In the 1950s, it began to be referred to as a specific genre typically aimed at youth and young adults. It is frequently characterized as a softer alternative to rock and roll. Neil Young and Crazy Horse 2024 tour setlist: Every song they played at Phoenix concert
Neil Young brought Crazy Horse to Phoenix for the first since 2003, when the Greendale Tour played what we now call Arizona Financial Theatre.
Saturdayâs show at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre was in support of "FU##INâ UP," a new release that captures Young and Crazy Horse in all their ragged glory.
And they treated Phoenix to a show that put the spotlight on the staples that have made Young one of rock ânâ roll's most celebrated elder statesmen, setting the tone with an epic performance of âCortez the Killerâ that lasted roughly 15 minutes.
By the time they brought the concert to a cacophonous conclusion with the glorious racket of âHey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" and a one-song encore of "Danger Bird," Young and Crazy Horse had powered their way through such classics as âCinnamon Girl,â âDonât Cry No Tearsâ and âPowderfinger.â
Young also took a break from the distortion and his bandmates for a three-song unplugged mini-set, including âComes a Timeâ and âHeart of Gold,â before the night was through.
Concert review: Neil Young and Crazy Horse scaled heights of ragged glory in transcendent Phoenix concert

2024 Zurich Classic live stream, TV schedule, where to watch online, channel, tee times, radio, golf coverage
Grab a partner as this team-style event on the pga tour wraps up sunday.
For the seventh straight year, golfers are in the Bayou taking part in the PGA Tour's annual team-style event. The 2024 Zurich Classic welcomed 80 teams of two as partners hoping to grab a trophy by week's end at TPC Louisiana.
Headlining the action are the two players who seemingly do everything together: Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay. The good friends were victorious in their first go around in 2022 but failed to defend their title a season ago. They started well this go-around but will need to make some major gains on Sunday if they hope to win two of three titles in New Orleans.
A new pairing making its debut features world No. 2 Rory McIlroy -- in his first tournament appearance -- playing alongside Shane Lowry. The duo, which has shared Ryder Cup success, is together near the top of the Zurich Classic leaderboard sitting just two strokes back entering the final 18 holes Sunday.
Follow Zurich Classic playoff coverage now that Round 4 has concluded.
Will Zalatoris and Sahith Theegala also entered as a strong duo on paper, as was the case with Collin Morikawa and Kurt Kitayama. Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor hoped to do one better than their runner-up performance in 2023 with Corey Conners and Taylor Pendrith also starring as an all-Canadian team. Brothers Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick team up for the second straight year with Rasmus and Nicolai Hojgaard, plus Parker and Pierceson Coody, also making this week a family affair.

Vice President Kamala Harris Launches Nationwide Economic Opportunity Tour
The Vice President will kick off her multi-state tour with a moderated conversation in Atlanta, GA on April 29 and an event in Detroit, MI during the following week
WASHINGTON â Vice President Kamala Harris announced today that she will embark on a nationwide Economic Opportunity Tour with a series of events focused on investing in communities, building wealth, and ensuring every American has the freedom to thrive. The Vice Presidentâs tour will take her back to several states across the country as she highlights how the Biden-Harris Administration has built economic opportunity and delivered for the American people. The Economic Opportunity Tour will kick off with a moderated conversation in Atlanta, GA on April 29 and an event in Detroit, MI during the following week. Additional dates and locations will be announced soon.
âPresident Biden and I are committed to creating an economy in which every person has the freedom to thrive. That is why we have taken historic steps to advance economic opportunity by increasing access to capital, investing in small businesses, addressing housing costs, forgiving student loans and medical debt, investing in infrastructure, and championing additional policies that put money in peopleâs pockets and build wealth,â said Vice President Harris. âOur economic approach has delivered great progress, and we will continue to invest in you, your family, and your future.â
During the Vice Presidentâs Economic Opportunity Tour, she will highlight how the Biden-Harris Administration has delivered historic investments that have supported communities and helped people thrive. This includes making unprecedented investments in small businesses and achieving the fastest creation of Black-owned small businesses in more than 30 years, creating a record number of jobs, increasing access to capital for underserved communities, investing in infrastructure, cutting the price of insulin and expanding access to health care, erasing medical debt, forgiving more student loan debt than any administration in history and boosting investments in education, making housing more affordable, lowering child care costs, and increasing the wealth of American families. Vice President Harris will also outline additional steps that she and President Biden are taking to expand this work. She will be joined on the tour by Administration officials, members of Congress, local leaders, and other special guests.
The Vice Presidentâs tour is a continuation of her nonstop travel to communities across the country. She has made more than 35 trips to 16 states since the beginning of 2024. This includes consistent travel to meet with small business owners and entrepreneurs in underserved communities to discuss challenges and opportunities they face. In March, she traveled to Black Wall Street in Durham, NC to announce $32 million in funds to support historically underserved entrepreneurs. She began the year in Las Vegas, NV where she announced an SBA rule that will ensure millions of Americans who have served time are eligible for SBA loan programs that help individuals start and run small businesses.
The Vice President has long been focused on ensuring that minority, rural, and low-income communities have the capital and resources they need to thrive and support small businesses. Last year, she announced that Treasuryâs CDFI Fund has awarded over $1.73 billion in grants to 603 Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) across the country. In 2022, the Vice President also announced a first-of-its-kind public-private sector initiative â the Economic Opportunity Coalition (EOC) â that is a historic public-private partnership of more than 20 private sector organizations that will invest tens of billions of dollars to create opportunity and grow wealth in historically underserved communities. The EOC has already surpassed over $1 billion in increased member company deposits into community finance institutions. As a Senator, the Vice President partnered with key Congressional stakeholders to secure a transformative $12 billion investment for CDFIs and MDIs in December 2020. Since that time, she has worked to ensure these programs are as successful as possible.
Additional dates, cities, and details for media to RSVP will be available soon.

Welcome home 2016 label cristal records.
NEW TALES 2013 Label Juste Une Trace
David Florsch (saxophones) Matthias Mahler (trombone) Adrien Dennefeld (guitare) Edouard Séro-Guillaume (basse, voix) Stéphane Scharlé (batterie)
David Florsch (saxophones) Guillaume Nuss (trombone) Adrien Dennefeld (guitare) Edouard Séro-Guillaume (basse, voix) Stéphane Scharlé (batterie)
Ozma 2005 autoproduit.

Los Bitchos Return With Glittery Disco Rocker (And Tour Dates)
By Angie Martoccio
Angie Martoccio
It’s official: Los Bitchos have returned, dropping the slick disco banger “La Bomba.”
Inspired by Nile Rodgers and Anita Ward, the track stays true to the group’s signature sound — a swirling concoction of vibrant disco energy, Eighties Turkish psych-rock, and pure funk. Check out the shimmering video below, where the quartet holds a crystal ball and dances in front of a full moon.
Los Bitchos also revealed North American tour dates. They’ll head there in late fall, stopping in major cities like New York, Seattle, and Los Angeles. Check out the dates below.
The all-women group — guitarist Serra Petale, Agustina Ruiz on synth/keytar, bassist Josefine Jonsson, and drummer Nic Crawshaw — hail from Australia, England, Uruguay, and Sweden, and are currently based in London.
In 2022, they released their debut, Let the Festivities Begin! produced by Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos. Rolling Stone named them an Artist You Need to Know , and we’re excited for what’s next.

Guyton’s new single, a gentle ballad about a mother’s fierce love, opens with the heart-touching lines, “I see pictures of my mama, hangin’ on the wall/ She’s never looked so happy, and I’ve never looked so small/ Now I’m holdin’ you and I know what they say is true/ When a baby’s born that’s when a mother’s born too.”
Guyton and husband Grant Savoy welcomed their first child, son Grayson, in Feb. 2021 and the acoustic ballad’s moving lyric video features home movie footage of Guyton in the hospital cradling her then newborn and spending time with the now toddler. “Cuz I felt it before, but it wasn’t like this/ Ain’t a thing I wouldn’t do, ain’t a thing I wouldn’t give/ It’s the kind you fall into and never hit the bottom of/ It’s a scary love,” she sings on the chorus.
