New Jersey Pumpkin Patches for Family Fun

Johnsons Corner Header Pumpkin Picking

This article is all about New Jersey pumpkin patches.

The leaves are turning and the weather’s getting cooler — that can only mean one thing. It’s pumpkin picking season in New Jersey!

Celebrate this year’s autumn harvest by visiting New Jersey pumpkin patches. Local farms across the Garden State offer pumpkin picking, along with a laundry list of other activities.

Do you like homemade pumpkin pastries and farm fresh apple cider? What about a spooky hayride or petting zoo for the kids? We found dozens of NJ farms that offer all these activities and more — so how do you choose the right one for you?

Here are 5 things to consider when selecting the best pumpkin picking NJ has to offer:

  • Location: There are many places to pick pumpkins in NJ. Find one close to home and make the trip easier on your family.
  • Price: Does the NJ pumpkin patch offer family or group pricing? Does the price go up on the weekends? What does the cost include?
  • Hours of Operation: When can you go pumpkin picking? When is each location more and less crowded?
  • Family Friendly Environment: Is the facility family friendly? Do they have special offers for younger guests? How do they specifically cater to families?
  • Other Entertainment: What else can you do at each NJ pumpkin patch? Do they offer farm animals or pony rides for kids? Are there hay rides? Do they sell or serve pumpkin pie?

We used this criteria to select the 4 best overall New Jersey pumpkin patches for families — 2 in North Jersey, and one each in Central Jersey and South Jersey.

20. Ward’s Pumpkin Patch (Ridgewood, NJ)

Pumpkins and gourds of every description can be found at this popular Ridgewood patch—a family-run establishment where face painting and goat feeding pair wonderfully with apple cider, homemade baked goods and local produce. Guests should be aware that, though its generously-sized lawn provides ample opportunity for little ones to run around, Ward’s pumpkin patch doesn’t provide the same sprawling farm experience as some other options. Nevertheless, you can expect a kid-friendly pumpkin picking experience made even more festive by the ever-changing seasonal decor, which includes artfully painted pumpkins along with some spooky Halloween touches. (Bonus: This one has no entry fee and is open every day of the month, too.)

FAMOUSLY FRESH PRODUCE

Fairfield Farms is the only remaining farm tract in a town that once had more than a dozen farms producing different kinds of vegetables, from horseradish and rhubarb to broccoli and cauliflower. For nearly 25 years, from 1975 to 1999, Fairfield Farms operated a large produce market on the farm and transported their produce to five additional farmers’ markets in and around northern New Jersey.

In 1999, the market house and 12 greenhouses moved to another part of the farm. For 10 years, the emphasis shifted to growing flowers in the spring and summer and agritourism during September and October. In 2010, we opened a produce market at the Big Piece Rd. location. Since then, we have become famous for selling the sweetest corn and tastiest Jersey tomatoes and peaches "on the planet".

SEASONAL PRODUCE

The typical fresh produce available from Fairfield Farms includes:

  • Jersey-fresh Supersweet Bi-Color Corn
  • White Corn (undeniably the "best corn on the planet.")
  • Jersey tomatoes
  • Jersey peaches
  • Jersey-fresh zucchini
  • Sugar baby watermelon
  • Yellow baby watermelon
  • Other Jersey-fresh vegetables

Want to know what we have in stock? We sell our produce fresh and seasonally, so give us a call for more information.

GALLERY OF FLOWERS, PRODUCE, & Activities

We have a wide variety of flowers & produce to choose from throughout the year. Our supplies change often, so if you're looking for a specific plant or type of produce, feel free to give us a call to ask us about our current inventory. We're looking forward to hearing from you!
